Chef Is Lowest Opening Of 2017 – 15 Cr Plus Cost Films

Chef has taken the lowest opening of the year if we take into account all the films which have cost more than 15 crore including promotion costs. The film was not expected to open well as trailers and the storytelling looked a disaster but still you would expect it can reach 1.50-1.75 crore nett but that is a huge task going by collections till 3pm. Last week we saw how good things can be when the right cinema is delivered to the audience and this week the Chef opening day number will probably show how bad things can be when wrong cinema is made. Actually its not correct to say wrong cinema but a better way to put it is past its sell by date cinema. The lowest openings of the year for films costing above 15 crore date are as follows. This does not mean the first day number will go in the following order but its lowest occupancy till 3pm on the opening day.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti which is a movie that changed the game in Bollywood will be screened at the first-ever Mauritius Film Festival.
Mauritius will be celebrating 50 years of independence in 2018 and during the most special year, they are creating an annual film festival, that will honour global talent and achievements and for its inaugural year, that will be focused on films from all around the world that champion the theme of ‘freedom’ and ‘independence’.
One of the films Mauritius authorities are going to screen, partly given the close current and historical ties with India, and which strongly echoes these themes in Rang De Basanti.

There are no two ways about the fact that poet-author-lyricist-activist-thinker-orator Javed Akhtar is one of Indian cinema’s most influential voices. And unknown to the world his family, primarily Farhan Akhtar and wife Shabana Azmi have been planning a biopic on the man and the poet, the thinker and humanitarian.
While the family is tight-lipped about its dream project, a source close to the Akhtar-Azmi parivar spills the beans. “It’s been an idea under progress for nearly three years. And now it’s time to get going with the idea.” Not only will Farhan direct, he will also play his father.
Shabana Azmi who is holidaying with her friends in Europe spoke on why a biopic on Javed Akhtar is in order: “It was on 4th Oct 1964 that Javed Akhtar arrived in Bombay at the age of 19 with two pairs of clothes, a few books and lots of dreams. This marks the 53rd year of that arrival. He slept on the streets, at Khar railway station, graduated to studio compounds, dressing rooms, Mahakali Caves and went without food for days.”
The proud wife feels Javed’s life is hugely inspirational. “On his most desolate day he told himself, ‘Things will change, I wasn’t born to die on the streets.’ We can have nothing but unconditional respect for his indomitable will and for the person he is, rising above bitterness and anger to become the compassionate person he is. I am very proud of my Jadu.”
The actor is apparently teaming up with Shahid Kapoor for a social drama, tentatively titled Roshni. Produced by Prernaa Arora and helmed by Toilet: Ek Prem Katha director Shree Narayan Singh, the film revolves around electricity thefts in small towns of India.A source working on the project reveals, “Abhishek was recently given a narration and was quite excited by the script. It is a story about two men — one is involved in electricity theft and the other starts a movement against the practice.”
While Kapoor has already been roped in to play the lawyer who revolts against the unfair practice, Bachchan is Singh’s first choice for the parallel lead. If the actor signs on the dotted line, it will mark his first collaboration with Kapoor. With Yuva (2004), Housefull franchise and Happy New Year (2014) amongst others behind him, Bachchan is no stranger to movies with ensemble cast. However, Kapoor, who is currently at the peak of his career, is said to be averse to two-hero films.
According to rumours, he signed Padmavati after he was assured that he’d enjoy as much screen time as co-star Ranveer Singh in the period drama. It will be interesting to see the dynamics between them. Katrina Kaif has been approached to play the female lead in the drama, which goes on floors next month. Chef Has Awful First Day

Chef has taken an awful first day as it collected less than 1 crore nett. The film was not really expected to collect but these collections are even lower than those low expectations. The film should have at least got past fils like Noor and Guest In London and grossed in the region of 1.50 crore nett but here the collections are almost half of that with the first day collections coming in the 80-90 lakhs nett range. The started very poorly and these figures have come with the normal evening growth so it can be imagined how bad the morning was. This number means that even if the film doubles up on Saturday it will not help.it will have to probably treble up or even more and even Newton could not do that with support of an Oscar entry and here there is no such thing. The lowest numbers of some major releases this year are as follows. Chef has done less business than films Newton and Lipstick Under My Burkha but those are not included below as were limited releases and the ones below had 1000 screens or close to it.

The other releases 2016 – The End, Call For Fun, Muavza Zameen Ka Paisa, Raktshar, etc were washouts. There were 8 releases this week and between them they failed to gather up 1 crore nett between them.
Shockingly low numbers for Chef. The trailers looked decent.
Could spell the end of Saif’s career as a main lead. He has basically lived off a few rom-coms for some years. But, he probably needs to re-invent himself and go for decent character roles, should any come to him.
Judwaa 2 Remains Strong On Second Friday

Judwaa 2 confirmed its SUPER HIT status on its second Friday with collections in the 3.75-4 crore nett range. The film has now grossed over 99 crore nett and will either emerge the biggest HIT of the Hindi film industry for 2017 or the second biggest HIT. This is not including Bahubali – The Conclusion.
The race is with Toilet Ek Prem Katha and at the moment after eight days the film is around 50-75 lakhs nett ahead and it remains to be seen what happens over the next 10 days or so. The collections of the film till date are as follows.
Week One – 95,25,00,000 apprx
Friday – 4,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 99,25,00,000 apprx
The huge failure of Chef will help the cause of Judwaa 2. Chef only had a chance at those 50 odd high end multiplexes but even there Judwaa 2 is collecting more than double of Chef despite being on its eighth day compared to the first day of Chef. The drop from Thursday is around 35% which is good trending considering the Thursday saw strong collections. The film is in a neck to neck race with Toilet Ek Prem Katha to see which film emerges the biggest outright Hindi grosser of the year.
Kundan Shah, the acclaimed director of films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, has died of a heart attack. He was 69 years old.
Shah also directed episodes of TV series like Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, Nukkad and Wagle Ki Duniya. His biggest success, however, is considered to be 1983’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. A satire on the rampant corruption among police, civil authorities and journalists, the film is called one of most intelligent films of Bollywood.
He was also instrumental in Shah Rukh Khan’s early success whom his gave one of his first films, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. He then directed Preity Zinta in Kya Kehna and Dil Hai Tumhara. His last film as a director was P Se PM tak in 2014.

The story of Mumbai Mist revolves around an emotional bond between a child rag picker from a Mumbai slum and an old man. The characters are played by Master Devrath and Annu Kapoor respectively.
Where Has time Gone will officially release in China on October 19. The film will be part of “The Magnificent Five—Directors Collaboration Project for the BRICS Film Festival” where Bhandarkar is representing India, alongside globally-feted storytellers, Brazilian Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries fame), Chinese director-screenwriter Jia Zhangke, Russian storyteller Aleksey Fedorchenko and South African filmmaker Jahmil XT Qubeka.
Madhur, who is a big fan of Awara Hoon song and legendary Raj Kapoor sahab, has used the song as a tribute to Raj Kapoor, that will play in background in one of the important scenes in the film. “Mumbai Mist” is part of a project wherein five filmmakers have been roped in to make 18-minute shorts on the theme “Where Has The Time Gone?”
Chinese director Jia Zhangke is the executive producer who has put all 5 short films on the same theme, together to make a feature film that will be premiered in Chengdu, China, while it will see theatrical release in China in September followed by other countries.
The movie is a part of Where Has Time Gone, an anthology feature film showing five segments directed by five directors from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It explores the theme of time and love through their own perspective.
According to Bhandarkar’s spokesperson, the film will premiere on October 14 under the Short Film Showcase Section at the Festival, followed by an interactive session with the acclaimed director and celebrated Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke.

Ajay Devgn, Farhan Akhtar and Sanjay Dutt – all three had a film release in September 2017 and all these movies had a disappointing run at the box office. While Ajay’s Baadshaho opened well but then couldn’t sustain, Farhan’s Lucknow Central and Sanjay’s Bhoomi flopped miserably. And now all three of them are set to collaborate. The film will be produced by Ajay Devgn while Farhan Akthar and Sanjay Dutt will be acting in it. Nishikant Kamat, who made the successful Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam, will be directing it.
Now it has come to light that this particular film is a remake of the 2014 National Award-winning Tamil black comedy-thriller, Jigarthanda. The title of the film is inspired by a cold drink available in Madurai, Tamil Nadu where the film was set in. It was the story of an aspiring filmmaker who, after being thrown out of a reality TV show, decides to make a film on real-life gangster. Rang De Basanti actor Siddharth played the role of the aspiring filmmaker while the goon was essayed by Bobby Simha. Bobby won the National Award for this film along with Vivek Harshan for Best Editing. There were several other characters in the film and it remains to be seen who gets to play them in the Hindi version. Actress Lakshmi Menon played Siddharth’s love interest and a popular Bollywood actress is expected to step into her shoes.

Judwaa 2 is looking at a solid second weekend as it collected 5.50 crore nett apprx on its Saturday. This has taken the business of the film to nearly 105 crore nett and will become the highest Varun Dhawan grosser within the next two days.
The film has topped 4 crore nett in Bihar and is looking to hit 5 crore nett also and this has only been achieved by around 10 films. UP is also is very strong while the little under performance has come down South but that is nearly always the case with this genre as the audience profile for Hindi films in the South is more of a gentry audience. The collections of Judwaa 2 till date are as follows.

Chef is a huge box office disaster and the way it is going it is not even going to get the numbers of films like Mirzya and Rock On 2. The film showed an improvement of 35% when it needed 135% and even them it would be some respectability and not success. The second day business has managed to go a little over 1 crore for a two day total of 2 crore nett.
The film has been totally rejected even at the premium multiplexes and this rejection looked on the cards from the promos but even after the promos you would assume it can do 10-12 crore nett business but it seems its only going to half of that. The first two day business of Chef is as follows.
Friday – 85,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 1,15,00,000 apprx
Total – 2,00,00,000
There were seven other small releases including 2016 – The End, Call For Fun, Muavza Zameen Ka Paisa and Raktshar among others but all were unable to get any worthwhile numbers.
Chef 1st Weekend Box Office Collection

Chef has turned out to be a disaster at the Indian box office. The film has grossed approx 4 crores in the first weekend.
There was only limited growth over the weekend. Generally, multiplex oriented films tend to show good growth on Saturday irrespective of the start. But here things were different as growth did not come after a disastrous opening.
Judwaa 2 2nd Weekend Box Office Collection:
Judwaa 2 has collected 18.10 crores in the second weekend. This is an excellent number as the film showed very good growth over the weekend.
The total collection of the film now stands at 116.18 crores. Judwaa 2 is going to surpass Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Jolly LLB 2 today. It still has one more open week after that and can cross Toilet Ek Prem Katha and Raees too.

Weekend Report: Chef is a Disaster, Judwaa 2 is Super Hit

It has been yet another terrible weekend for Bollywood. After the tremendous success of Judwaa 2, things have gone back to normal levels.
Chef: Saif Ali Khan starrer is a huge failure as the film did not show much growth over the weekend despite a slow start. DISASTER
Judwaa 2: Judwaa 2 has an excellent second weekend of 18.10 crores. It has managed a very good hold despite coming off a big number. SUPER HIT
Newton: It has a decent third weekend of 1.49 crores. Apart from Judwaa 2, this is the only holdover release which had some reasonable collections. AVERAGE
The releases of Judwaa 2 has meant that most of the holdover releases have come to an end of their box office run. Apart from Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, all films from Bollywood have failed.
Back from AMERICAN MADE. What a fun film! Cruise is having the time of his life here! Found out later that it’s directed by DOUG LIMON who made EDGE OF TOMORROW with Cruise. No surprise there then.
Full on masala-film but based on true events! Cruise is in superb form here. It is like what if Bachchan’s DON were based on actual events! He has captured the spirit of BARRY SEAL fantastically and dove-tailed it into his stardom.
No time to write a full review but this is a must-see!
Saw Mubarkan, and I liked it, the family ego tussles were done very nicely. Anees Bazmi is a good writer/Director. How I wish if it had someone else ( Like -Anshuman or Varun Dhawan ) instead of that ugly Arjun Kapoor.

It trended quite well, didn’t it? From an initial day at around 5cr it went to collect around 55cr. Not the worst of totals when you take into account how the year has gone.
Salman Khan is one of the most sought-after superstars and has a gazillion fans. However, there are few things you would never come across in a Salman Khan film: explicit content, Salman in an antagonistic role and skimpily clad female actors. Staying true to his brand of cinema, the ‘Tubelight’ actor has once again reportedly laid down these three clauses in front of the makers of ‘Race 3’.
According to reports, apart from that, Salman also wants to increase the humour content in the film. Salman has reportedly asked the writers, and producer Ramesh Taurani to make the film funnier and add more humour in the script. Also, there was allegedly a drug-peddling scene in the film that was nixed on Salman’s insistence as he did not want to set a bad example for his fans, especially kids and youngsters who follow him.
Add to that, the ‘Race’ franchise has also featured some steamy scenes between its protagonists. But that won’t be the case with Salman’s ‘Race 3’. The superstar wants the film to cater to family audiences and therefore, he doesn’t want even one steamy scene, the reports add.
Now the release date has also been confirmed. Ramesh Taurani has confirmed that Race 3 will release on Eid 2018. He made the announcement on Twitter as he welcomed Bobby Deol in the franchise.

Ever since the news broke out during the weekend, Bollywood is mourning the loss of a great and unconventional filmmaker Kundan Shah. For superstar Shah Rukh Khan it is not just a professional but also a personal loss, since his bond with the veteran filmmaker goes back a long way. Recently, during the prayer meet of Kundan Shah, Shah Rukh Khan not only expressed his grief over losing such a great man but also reminisced about a few incidents.
Very few may be aware that Shah Rukh Khan, who was a Delhi based theatre artist, stayed with Kundan Shah and his family when he arrived in Mumbai to become an actor. During the prayer meet, Shah Rukh Khan turned nostalgic about his struggling days wherein he expressed his gratitude towards the Shah family for showering him with warmth and affection. Earlier last week, Hrithik Roshan broke his silence after 2 years over the 4 years long spat with Kangana Ranaut. The actor who poured his heart into the heartfelt post followed by an interview which garnered immense support from the masses as it reflected on Twitter.
The actor unabashedly presented facts and evidence while exposing his vulnerabilities to the audience.
These comments by him illustrate that he does not “get” the issue. In India as it is we have far too many instances of “appropriation”, where privileged groups try and take over a discourse originally used to give voice to the oppressed or marginalized. For Hrithik to try and take over “No means no”, an essential part of the struggle for female autonomy over women’s own bodies, and to do it as a privileged hero in a filmi fraternity where sexual harassment, exploitation, and casting couches are rampant, suggests tone deafness at best, and a disgusting sense of entitlement at worst.
Dont you think that even privileged undergo mental harrassment? Privileged men can also get stalked and get false cases lodged against them. Dont you feel some women misuse their being women and play victim card? Why should he keep quiet when insults are poured on him on a daily basis?
I am not saying that he has no right to defend himself: what I AM saying is that he should not cloak himself in the language used by victims of sexual assault a la Pink and “no means no”. Let me give you an example: say I am the victim of an anti-Muslim slur; I am privileged but nevertheless have been wronged, I can defend myself. But if I chose to do so in the language of enslaved Africans in America, it would be remarkable (and not in a good way). Or if I said “I feel like a rape victim” it would be similarly tasteless and clueless.
The case has dragged too long. It has become he said she said.
There is no doubt that there was obsession and longing to be in relationship by Kangana. She probably has issues.
But Hrithik contention that there was nothing between them is a big BS. There is enough prima facie evidence that suggest that he is lying with respect to degree of relationship.
The problem is where is the prima facie evidence? There is absolutely nothing that points towards a relationship that lasted several years. All Kangana’s camp could show was some photo-shopped pic at a party.
Any relationship leaves proofs and evidences behind. They are both high profile persons. But there is absolutely nothing that suggests they have been in any serious relationship.
And when you analyse what she has been claiming, her version is easily the less credible one. The lies are too obvious there and they only make her story less plausible.
At the end of the day, we are still living in a society that is more ready to believe that a man has indulged in an extra-marital affair rather than to believe a woman is sexually harassing a guy. But in the current case, all the evidence point towards the latter. However, our pre-conceived notion tends to make us lean towards the former.
But Hrithik clarified against this with his Pope comment on Twitter.
If there was nothing and name was not mentioned why he needed to clarify? Let assume he was getting one side mails from Kangana and he thought that silly ex must be him! Still doesn’t make sense? That could be reference to anybody until and unless if you had something?
Now you talk about imposter. First of all how did he get imposter emails? It must be either from Kangana or imposter laptop? Imposter account has been inactive for more than six months so deactivated when cops enquired. Hrithik defense is that some fan handed him Kangana one sided emails from Kangana hacked account. How convenient!
Another gem, A person who has been working with him has wrong email but Rangoli her sister has correct email!! Apparently imposter knew of Kangana fixation with Hrithik and decided to trick her!!
My theory is that there is no imposter. It was Hrithik who operated it and he decided against proceeding with relation and stopped responding. Kangana was desperate and Queen was still to happen.
Now if, the Kangana and imposter complain was correct then why this second complain in April 2017 where he claims that Kangana has been sending him explicit emails and harassing him. How both of them be true at same time?
My theory is that Kangana use to share password with Hrithik and Hrithik cleaned up her system. He was operating two accounts during divorce. One general and one with Kangana. At certain point he felt he is better off without this relationship.
There is no Photoshop of the picture; Suzanne picture just proves that she was also at that party and, Kangana and Hrithik were not alone.
As for no picture of them together is correct but Kangana’s side is that Hrithik never allowed personal picture taken.
The cyber forensic report is hogwash. It is paid by Roshans and anyone can cleanup their system with little know how.
ps – There is difference between cropped and photoshopped. The intention of cropping was to show they were close which is incorrect. It seems Hrithik was too drunk in that party.

Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films is set to premiere four short films at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star this month. The platform will screen “Anukul” by Sujoy Ghosh, “Death of a Father” by Chaitanya Tamhane, “Churri” by Mansi Nirmal Jain and “Juice” by Neeraj Ghaywan.
“I did Churri only because Tisca asked me to. Also because I am a big fan of ‘Chutney’ (her short film). I like what she is trying to do in the short film space and I told her to use me, but she ended up misusing me,” Anurag said in a statement.
Talking about the short film space, the Dev.D director said: “Short films are the future and that space is getting super competitive. A lot of future artistes will be known for what they do in that space.”
Churri features the story of a couple where the philandering husband has an affair outside of his marriage. The plot of the movie will create curiosity in the minds of the viewer when the wife confronts the mistress and an unusual and surprising twist transpires.
I feel the circle is now complete: ‘Talvar’ director on the Aarushi verdict
A film such as Talvar needed to serve a higher purpose. Till that happened, although it got acclaim, the film had achieved nothing in the real world
To be clear on Verdict, they are not pronounced innocent. Just in the lack of evidence, they are acquitted. Actually, Talwars also never showed much interest in bringing real culprits to justice by not co-operating with investigation.
Movie was just a propaganda to show them innocent rather than disclosing cases and leaving it to audience to decide as nothing can be proved. Narco test also failed on Talwars and other 3 suspected. All in all, Justice denied, and talwars are to be blamed for this as much as negligence in initial investigation.

Chef Is Lowest Opening Of 2017 – 15 Cr Plus Cost Films

Chef has taken the lowest opening of the year if we take into account all the films which have cost more than 15 crore including promotion costs. The film was not expected to open well as trailers and the storytelling looked a disaster but still you would expect it can reach 1.50-1.75 crore nett but that is a huge task going by collections till 3pm. Last week we saw how good things can be when the right cinema is delivered to the audience and this week the Chef opening day number will probably show how bad things can be when wrong cinema is made. Actually its not correct to say wrong cinema but a better way to put it is past its sell by date cinema. The lowest openings of the year for films costing above 15 crore date are as follows. This does not mean the first day number will go in the following order but its lowest occupancy till 3pm on the opening day.

Mauritius will be celebrating 50 years of independence in 2018 and during the most special year, they are creating an annual film festival, that will honour global talent and achievements and for its inaugural year, that will be focused on films from all around the world that champion the theme of ‘freedom’ and ‘independence’.
One of the films Mauritius authorities are going to screen, partly given the close current and historical ties with India, and which strongly echoes these themes in Rang De Basanti.

There are no two ways about the fact that poet-author-lyricist-activist-thinker-orator Javed Akhtar is one of Indian cinema’s most influential voices. And unknown to the world his family, primarily Farhan Akhtar and wife Shabana Azmi have been planning a biopic on the man and the poet, the thinker and humanitarian.
While the family is tight-lipped about its dream project, a source close to the Akhtar-Azmi parivar spills the beans. “It’s been an idea under progress for nearly three years. And now it’s time to get going with the idea.” Not only will Farhan direct, he will also play his father.
Shabana Azmi who is holidaying with her friends in Europe spoke on why a biopic on Javed Akhtar is in order: “It was on 4th Oct 1964 that Javed Akhtar arrived in Bombay at the age of 19 with two pairs of clothes, a few books and lots of dreams. This marks the 53rd year of that arrival. He slept on the streets, at Khar railway station, graduated to studio compounds, dressing rooms, Mahakali Caves and went without food for days.”
The proud wife feels Javed’s life is hugely inspirational. “On his most desolate day he told himself, ‘Things will change, I wasn’t born to die on the streets.’ We can have nothing but unconditional respect for his indomitable will and for the person he is, rising above bitterness and anger to become the compassionate person he is. I am very proud of my Jadu.”

The actor is apparently teaming up with Shahid Kapoor for a social drama, tentatively titled Roshni. Produced by Prernaa Arora and helmed by Toilet: Ek Prem Katha director Shree Narayan Singh, the film revolves around electricity thefts in small towns of India.A source working on the project reveals, “Abhishek was recently given a narration and was quite excited by the script. It is a story about two men — one is involved in electricity theft and the other starts a movement against the practice.”
While Kapoor has already been roped in to play the lawyer who revolts against the unfair practice, Bachchan is Singh’s first choice for the parallel lead. If the actor signs on the dotted line, it will mark his first collaboration with Kapoor. With Yuva (2004), Housefull franchise and Happy New Year (2014) amongst others behind him, Bachchan is no stranger to movies with ensemble cast. However, Kapoor, who is currently at the peak of his career, is said to be averse to two-hero films.
According to rumours, he signed Padmavati after he was assured that he’d enjoy as much screen time as co-star Ranveer Singh in the period drama. It will be interesting to see the dynamics between them. Katrina Kaif has been approached to play the female lead in the drama, which goes on floors next month. Chef Has Awful First Day

Chef has taken an awful first day as it collected less than 1 crore nett. The film was not really expected to collect but these collections are even lower than those low expectations. The film should have at least got past fils like Noor and Guest In London and grossed in the region of 1.50 crore nett but here the collections are almost half of that with the first day collections coming in the 80-90 lakhs nett range. The started very poorly and these figures have come with the normal evening growth so it can be imagined how bad the morning was. This number means that even if the film doubles up on Saturday it will not help.it will have to probably treble up or even more and even Newton could not do that with support of an Oscar entry and here there is no such thing. The lowest numbers of some major releases this year are as follows. Chef has done less business than films Newton and Lipstick Under My Burkha but those are not included below as were limited releases and the ones below had 1000 screens or close to it.
1. Chef – 90,00,000 apprx
2. Guest In London – 1,17,00,000
2. Noor – 1,23,00,000
3. The Ghazi Attack – 1,55,00,000
4. Daddy – 1,58,00,000

Could spell the end of Saif’s career as a main lead. He has basically lived off a few rom-coms for some years. But, he probably needs to re-invent himself and go for decent character roles, should any come to him.

Judwaa 2 Remains Strong On Second Friday

Judwaa 2 confirmed its SUPER HIT status on its second Friday with collections in the 3.75-4 crore nett range. The film has now grossed over 99 crore nett and will either emerge the biggest HIT of the Hindi film industry for 2017 or the second biggest HIT. This is not including Bahubali – The Conclusion.
The race is with Toilet Ek Prem Katha and at the moment after eight days the film is around 50-75 lakhs nett ahead and it remains to be seen what happens over the next 10 days or so. The collections of the film till date are as follows.

Friday – 4,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 99,25,00,000 apprx
The huge failure of Chef will help the cause of Judwaa 2. Chef only had a chance at those 50 odd high end multiplexes but even there Judwaa 2 is collecting more than double of Chef despite being on its eighth day compared to the first day of Chef. The drop from Thursday is around 35% which is good trending considering the Thursday saw strong collections. The film is in a neck to neck race with Toilet Ek Prem Katha to see which film emerges the biggest outright Hindi grosser of the year.

Kundan Shah, the acclaimed director of films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, has died of a heart attack. He was 69 years old.
Shah also directed episodes of TV series like Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, Nukkad and Wagle Ki Duniya. His biggest success, however, is considered to be 1983’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. A satire on the rampant corruption among police, civil authorities and journalists, the film is called one of most intelligent films of Bollywood.
He was also instrumental in Shah Rukh Khan’s early success whom his gave one of his first films, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. He then directed Preity Zinta in Kya Kehna and Dil Hai Tumhara. His last film as a director was P Se PM tak in 2014.

The story of Mumbai Mist revolves around an emotional bond between a child rag picker from a Mumbai slum and an old man. The characters are played by Master Devrath and Annu Kapoor respectively.
Where Has time Gone will officially release in China on October 19. The film will be part of “The Magnificent Five—Directors Collaboration Project for the BRICS Film Festival” where Bhandarkar is representing India, alongside globally-feted storytellers, Brazilian Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries fame), Chinese director-screenwriter Jia Zhangke, Russian storyteller Aleksey Fedorchenko and South African filmmaker Jahmil XT Qubeka.
Madhur, who is a big fan of Awara Hoon song and legendary Raj Kapoor sahab, has used the song as a tribute to Raj Kapoor, that will play in background in one of the important scenes in the film. “Mumbai Mist” is part of a project wherein five filmmakers have been roped in to make 18-minute shorts on the theme “Where Has The Time Gone?”
Chinese director Jia Zhangke is the executive producer who has put all 5 short films on the same theme, together to make a feature film that will be premiered in Chengdu, China, while it will see theatrical release in China in September followed by other countries.
The movie is a part of Where Has Time Gone, an anthology feature film showing five segments directed by five directors from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It explores the theme of time and love through their own perspective.
According to Bhandarkar’s spokesperson, the film will premiere on October 14 under the Short Film Showcase Section at the Festival, followed by an interactive session with the acclaimed director and celebrated Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke.

Ajay Devgn, Farhan Akhtar and Sanjay Dutt – all three had a film release in September 2017 and all these movies had a disappointing run at the box office. While Ajay’s Baadshaho opened well but then couldn’t sustain, Farhan’s Lucknow Central and Sanjay’s Bhoomi flopped miserably. And now all three of them are set to collaborate. The film will be produced by Ajay Devgn while Farhan Akthar and Sanjay Dutt will be acting in it. Nishikant Kamat, who made the successful Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam, will be directing it.
Now it has come to light that this particular film is a remake of the 2014 National Award-winning Tamil black comedy-thriller, Jigarthanda. The title of the film is inspired by a cold drink available in Madurai, Tamil Nadu where the film was set in. It was the story of an aspiring filmmaker who, after being thrown out of a reality TV show, decides to make a film on real-life gangster. Rang De Basanti actor Siddharth played the role of the aspiring filmmaker while the goon was essayed by Bobby Simha. Bobby won the National Award for this film along with Vivek Harshan for Best Editing. There were several other characters in the film and it remains to be seen who gets to play them in the Hindi version. Actress Lakshmi Menon played Siddharth’s love interest and a popular Bollywood actress is expected to step into her shoes.

Judwaa 2 is looking at a solid second weekend as it collected 5.50 crore nett apprx on its Saturday. This has taken the business of the film to nearly 105 crore nett and will become the highest Varun Dhawan grosser within the next two days.
The film has topped 4 crore nett in Bihar and is looking to hit 5 crore nett also and this has only been achieved by around 10 films. UP is also is very strong while the little under performance has come down South but that is nearly always the case with this genre as the audience profile for Hindi films in the South is more of a gentry audience. Chef is a huge box office disaster and the way it is going it is not even going to get the numbers of films like Mirzya and Rock On 2. The film showed an improvement of 35% when it needed 135% and even them it would be some respectability and not success. The second day business has managed to go a little over 1 crore for a two day total of 2 crore nett.
The film has been totally rejected even at the premium multiplexes and this rejection looked on the cards from the promos but even after the promos you would assume it can do 10-12 crore nett business but it seems its only going to half of that. The first two day business of Chef is as follows.
Friday – 85,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 1,15,00,000 apprx
Total – 2,00,00,000
There were seven other small releases including 2016 – The End, Call For Fun, Muavza Zameen Ka Paisa and Raktshar among others but all were unable to get any worthwhile numbers.

There was only limited growth over the weekend. Generally, multiplex oriented films tend to show good growth on Saturday irrespective of the start. But here things were different as growth did not come after a disastrous opening.

Weekend Report: Chef is a Disaster, Judwaa 2 is Super Hit

It has been yet another terrible weekend for Bollywood. After the tremendous success of Judwaa 2, things have gone back to normal levels.
Chef: Saif Ali Khan starrer is a huge failure as the film did not show much growth over the weekend despite a slow start. DISASTER
Judwaa 2: Judwaa 2 has an excellent second weekend of 18.10 crores. It has managed a very good hold despite coming off a big number. SUPER HIT
Newton: It has a decent third weekend of 1.49 crores. Apart from Judwaa 2, this is the only holdover release which had some reasonable collections. AVERAGE
The releases of Judwaa 2 has meant that most of the holdover releases have come to an end of their box office run. Apart from Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, all films from Bollywood have failed.

Back from AMERICAN MADE. What a fun film! Cruise is having the time of his life here! Found out later that it’s directed by DOUG LIMON who made EDGE OF TOMORROW with Cruise. No surprise there then.
Full on masala-film but based on true events! Cruise is in superb form here. It is like what if Bachchan’s DON were based on actual events! He has captured the spirit of BARRY SEAL fantastically and dove-tailed it into his stardom.
No time to write a full review but this is a must-see!

Saw Mubarkan, and I liked it, the family ego tussles were done very nicely. Anees Bazmi is a good writer/Director. How I wish if it had someone else ( Like -Anshuman or Varun Dhawan ) instead of that ugly Arjun Kapoor.
It would have been a bigger hit.

Salman Khan is one of the most sought-after superstars and has a gazillion fans. However, there are few things you would never come across in a Salman Khan film: explicit content, Salman in an antagonistic role and skimpily clad female actors. Staying true to his brand of cinema, the ‘Tubelight’ actor has once again reportedly laid down these three clauses in front of the makers of ‘Race 3’.
According to reports, apart from that, Salman also wants to increase the humour content in the film. Salman has reportedly asked the writers, and producer Ramesh Taurani to make the film funnier and add more humour in the script. Also, there was allegedly a drug-peddling scene in the film that was nixed on Salman’s insistence as he did not want to set a bad example for his fans, especially kids and youngsters who follow him.

agreed on all counts.. Messi is certainly in great shape. The question is whether there can be a team around him to win it all. He certainly deserves it. They did well enough last time with a hobbled team but ultimately the lack of goal production caught up with them (though defensively they were of course impressive).

They are a very confusing team. With Aguero, Higuain, Dybala they have prolific goal scoring. It’s just not got a formula to match Messi’s brilliance. Possibly too top heavy.

Ever since the news broke out during the weekend, Bollywood is mourning the loss of a great and unconventional filmmaker Kundan Shah. For superstar Shah Rukh Khan it is not just a professional but also a personal loss, since his bond with the veteran filmmaker goes back a long way. Recently, during the prayer meet of Kundan Shah, Shah Rukh Khan not only expressed his grief over losing such a great man but also reminisced about a few incidents.
Very few may be aware that Shah Rukh Khan, who was a Delhi based theatre artist, stayed with Kundan Shah and his family when he arrived in Mumbai to become an actor. During the prayer meet, Shah Rukh Khan turned nostalgic about his struggling days wherein he expressed his gratitude towards the Shah family for showering him with warmth and affection. Considering his close bond with the filmmaker, Shah Rukh Khan described that he will mourn the loss of Shah for a long time like the way he mourned the loss of his mother.
“He would tell me you don’t know how to act; I will never work with you. He would make me do a 100 retakes. I was fortunate to meet him six months ago at a book launch. I will miss Kundan.” Besides this, Shah Rukh Khan also revealed that he has a poster of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro in his house that he wanted Kundan Shah to sign. However, the director always refused to do so despite the actor’s insistence.
Talking about it, the actor had also revealed that a few days ago he had told his wife Gauri that he would visit Kundan Shah soon to try again to convince him to sign it. But it seems that the actor’s dream remained unfulfilled as he had passed away before he could sign the poster.

These comments by him illustrate that he does not “get” the issue. In India as it is we have far too many instances of “appropriation”, where privileged groups try and take over a discourse originally used to give voice to the oppressed or marginalized. For Hrithik to try and take over “No means no”, an essential part of the struggle for female autonomy over women’s own bodies, and to do it as a privileged hero in a filmi fraternity where sexual harassment, exploitation, and casting couches are rampant, suggests tone deafness at best, and a disgusting sense of entitlement at worst.

I am not saying that he has no right to defend himself: what I AM saying is that he should not cloak himself in the language used by victims of sexual assault a la Pink and “no means no”. Let me give you an example: say I am the victim of an anti-Muslim slur; I am privileged but nevertheless have been wronged, I can defend myself. But if I chose to do so in the language of enslaved Africans in America, it would be remarkable (and not in a good way). Or if I said “I feel like a rape victim” it would be similarly tasteless and clueless.

The case has dragged too long. It has become he said she said.
There is no doubt that there was obsession and longing to be in relationship by Kangana. She probably has issues.
But Hrithik contention that there was nothing between them is a big BS. There is enough prima facie evidence that suggest that he is lying with respect to degree of relationship.

The problem is where is the prima facie evidence? There is absolutely nothing that points towards a relationship that lasted several years. All Kangana’s camp could show was some photo-shopped pic at a party.
Any relationship leaves proofs and evidences behind. They are both high profile persons. But there is absolutely nothing that suggests they have been in any serious relationship.
And when you analyse what she has been claiming, her version is easily the less credible one. The lies are too obvious there and they only make her story less plausible.
At the end of the day, we are still living in a society that is more ready to believe that a man has indulged in an extra-marital affair rather than to believe a woman is sexually harassing a guy. But in the current case, all the evidence point towards the latter. However, our pre-conceived notion tends to make us lean towards the former.

But Hrithik clarified against this with his Pope comment on Twitter.
If there was nothing and name was not mentioned why he needed to clarify? Let assume he was getting one side mails from Kangana and he thought that silly ex must be him! Still doesn’t make sense? That could be reference to anybody until and unless if you had something?
Now you talk about imposter. First of all how did he get imposter emails? It must be either from Kangana or imposter laptop? Imposter account has been inactive for more than six months so deactivated when cops enquired. Hrithik defense is that some fan handed him Kangana one sided emails from Kangana hacked account. How convenient!
Another gem, A person who has been working with him has wrong email but Rangoli her sister has correct email!! Apparently imposter knew of Kangana fixation with Hrithik and decided to trick her!!
My theory is that there is no imposter. It was Hrithik who operated it and he decided against proceeding with relation and stopped responding. Kangana was desperate and Queen was still to happen.
Now if, the Kangana and imposter complain was correct then why this second complain in April 2017 where he claims that Kangana has been sending him explicit emails and harassing him. How both of them be true at same time?
My theory is that Kangana use to share password with Hrithik and Hrithik cleaned up her system. He was operating two accounts during divorce. One general and one with Kangana. At certain point he felt he is better off without this relationship.
There is no Photoshop of the picture; Suzanne picture just proves that she was also at that party and, Kangana and Hrithik were not alone.
As for no picture of them together is correct but Kangana’s side is that Hrithik never allowed personal picture taken.
The cyber forensic report is hogwash. It is paid by Roshans and anyone can cleanup their system with little know how.
ps – There is difference between cropped and photoshopped. The intention of cropping was to show they were close which is incorrect. It seems Hrithik was too drunk in that party.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who has also acted in feature films like Akira, says he chose to star in the short film Churri because of actress Tisca Chopra. But she ended up “misusing” him.
Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films is set to premiere four short films at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star this month. The platform will screen “Anukul” by Sujoy Ghosh, “Death of a Father” by Chaitanya Tamhane, “Churri” by Mansi Nirmal Jain and “Juice” by Neeraj Ghaywan.
“I did Churri only because Tisca asked me to. Also because I am a big fan of ‘Chutney’ (her short film). I like what she is trying to do in the short film space and I told her to use me, but she ended up misusing me,” Anurag said in a statement.
Talking about the short film space, the Dev.D director said: “Short films are the future and that space is getting super competitive. A lot of future artistes will be known for what they do in that space.”
Churri features the story of a couple where the philandering husband has an affair outside of his marriage. The plot of the movie will create curiosity in the minds of the viewer when the wife confronts the mistress and an unusual and surprising twist transpires.

To be clear on Verdict, they are not pronounced innocent. Just in the lack of evidence, they are acquitted. Actually, Talwars also never showed much interest in bringing real culprits to justice by not co-operating with investigation.
Movie was just a propaganda to show them innocent rather than disclosing cases and leaving it to audience to decide as nothing can be proved. Narco test also failed on Talwars and other 3 suspected. All in all, Justice denied, and talwars are to be blamed for this as much as negligence in initial investigation.
