  1. Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet Ek Prem Katha has beaten Salman Khan’s Tubelight on Television. Both films were premiered on TV on the same day.

Overall both films have generated good ratings. TEPK is the second highest of 2017, only behind Dangal. While Tubelight has fetched the fourth position and has generated over 1 crores impressions. This is quite good considering that film was a box office failure.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal topped the chart and is the only film of 2017 to top 1.5 crore impressions. It is also the fourth highest TV premiere of all time, if we convert impressions to BARC. Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo holds the record for generating all time world television premiere ratings and is followed by Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Check out the list of top 10 television premiere ratings of Bollywood movies in 2017.

    Rank Movie Impressions
    1 Dangal 1,62,54,000
2 Toilet Ek Prem Katha 1,09,25,000
    3 Jolly LLB 2 1,08,51,000
    4 Tubelight 1,02,61,000
    5 Kaabil 86,93,000
6 MSD The Untold Story 80,94,000
    7 Shivaay 62,92,000
    8 Commando 2 61,36,000

    • SRK movies dont work on television aswell, and it is not latest. It has been happening since RNBDJ. Big movies like Raone, Don2 , JTHJ, HNY, Dilwale didnt make among top10 movies of the year in trp rating. Actually, many of them including don2 were disastrous on tv. CE was only exception. Still, they talk about how much money his movie make pre-release by selling various rights, which is hogwash.
He is on a disastrous run after RNBDJ, CE being only exception. Even, raees will not make into top10 by the end of the year. These could have been decent run, but huge budget and big satellite selling prices make it impossible for anyone to recover their investment.
I think srk should start doing small budget movies and focus on character roles.

      • Good point Jay. Can’t believe Commando 2 had more viewership than Raees which is tagged as semi-hit and is the second highest grosser from King Khan.
Partially agree with Marcus, that these are bad signals for SRK. Earlier even his flops would fetch excellent viewership on television. However, I still trust he has lots of stardom left. So don’t know what’s going wrong with him?

    • Judwaa 2 has done 133 cr till date. It is going to end at 135 cr or so (same range as TEPK and Raees). Golmaal would likely to be doing the same amount IF it was a solo release. SS may hurt it, in which case it may end up doing less. But 100 cr is guaranteed here due to franchise factor.

  3. His voice his said to be dubbed in Tamil and Telegu versions. In the Hindi version, the actor will have his own voice but it will sound different.

    By Koimoi.com Team -October 13, 2017

Akshay Kumar who is also a part of this project will be seen in an evil avatar. The actor has been given a deadly look for the film. However, not much details about the film have been revealed. That trademark drawl that we all associate with Akshay Kumar, won’t be heard in Shankar’s 2.0, the eagerly-awaited sequel to Robot where the actor will play the antagonist for the first time.

To ensure that there is a distinctiveness in Akshay’s personality as an antagonist, not only has he changed his entire physical look, but he will also sound different in the Hindi version of the film. His voice his said to be dubbed in Tamil and Telegu versions. In the Hindi version, the actor will have his own voice but it will sound different.

It looks like the makers are planning to use voice enhancements for him. In a statement in DNA, Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty said, “We are working on it. After struggling for weeks, Shankar and I have discovered a method. We are not fully satisfied with the voice quality yet. In a while, we will get the perfect voice and pitch for Akshay.”

  5. New Ranking: Varun Dhawan stroms into Top 4

    1. Aamir Khan – Post Dangal and Tubelight, Aamir has cemented his position. Despite no releases he continues to be on top as other stars are sliding down.

    2. Salman Khan – The Numero Uno till Dec 2016 is now behind Aamir. It needed a film like Dangal to dislodge the massiest superstar after BigB.

    3. Akshay Kumar – With Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom, Jolly LLB2, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Akshay is now firmly at No 3. All eyes on 2.0 which is expected to open All India at 100 Cr nett on Day 1 (Thursday), 100 Cr Nett on Day 2 (Independence Day), 100 Cr Nett on Day 3 (Saturday), 100 Cr Nett on Day 4 (Sunday) and 1000 Cr from there on. Hindi version is expected to nett 60% of the above collections thanks to Akshay Kumar’s increasing acceptance and him emerging as a star whose movie has to be very good.

    4. Varun Dhawan – He climbs next to SRK to emerge as a potential No 1 in coming years thanks to his back to back hits. Judwa 2 is a SuperHit

    4. SRK – He is jointly No 4 with Varun Dhawan. His fan following and history of giving great cinemans will keep him in Top 5 even if his next 2 movies flops.

There is No number 5 as Ajay Devgn’s Baadshahi, Ranbir’s Jagga Jasoos and Hrithik’s Kaabil performed below expectations.

All eyes on Golmaal 4 for Next No 5.

ATB and blue both did almost same business and distributor share of blue was higher but it was still a lossmaker. 2.0 should do 150 cr in hindi, but not sure how much more. Release date they have chosen is not good enough. First half of the year is always slow due to exam period. If i was producer, i would have released in April-July period.

On repeat runs an average comedy films become good and a good one become excellent.
I really enjoy those. No wonder Golmaal remains the most loved Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films, Govinda is still a star, Amol Palekar is loved more than Jeetendra and Akshay Kumar’s comedy films gets maximum repeat runs.

I regret that in the Khans only Salman has few comedy films to boast of. Others have mostly done high voltage dramas which on repeat run (esp 3rd watch onwards) becomes taxing. Rang De Basanti or Kabhi Alvida for example.

The TRP war of reality shows has begun. Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 9, Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 11, Akshay Kumar’s The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 5 and Rohit Shetty’s Khatron Ke Khiladi: Pain In Spain are the top contenders in the race.

It’s been 9 seasons for Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati – the show still rules the hearts of the people. It has toppled every reality show toppling the Television Rating Points (TRPs) list from the period of 30th September to 6th October.

Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 11 and Akshay Kumar’s The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 5 did not even manage to find a spot in the top 5 list. Bigg Boss made its grand debut on 1st October. It could get a benefit of doubt because it’s just the 1st week and going by the history of Bigg Boss, the show attracts the audience after few weeks of controversies.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he is glad that his TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) is giving a platform to real life heroes to come forward and talk about their initiatives and seek more participation from viewers across the country.

Lawyer and activist Afroz Shah will be on the hot seat for a special episode Nai Chah Nai Rah to raise awareness and pledge support to the cleanliness drive at Juhu and Versova beaches. The episode will air on Friday on Sony Entertainment Television.

Memesys Lab’s An Insignificant Man a film based on the inside view of world’s biggest democracy has a very intriguing motion poster.

Directed by Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla, ‘An Insignificant Man’ is a non-fiction political thriller that chronicles the spectacular rise of Arvind Kejriwal from a social activist to a polarizing politician.

The motion poster showcases Arvind Kejriwal against a backdrop of adjectives associated with world’s biggest democracy, India.

The film had been in news recently after it was stalled by the ex-censor board chief, who had asked the filmmakers to get permissions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other politicians. Ironically, the film was championed by the international filmmaking community and senior executives at Vice. Finally, in a precedent-setting order, the FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal) overruled the board’s ‘unconstitutional’ demand and cleared the film in its entirety.

An Insignificant Man has been acquired by Global media giant Vice, one of the largest media houses in the world.

It received a standing ovation at its MAMI film festival screening in Mumbai. It has been backed by prestigious international organisations like Sundance, Skywalker Labs, Bertha Foundation etc.The film also has the distinction of being funded by one of the biggest crowdfunding campaigns in India.

The 95 minutes long film has been painstakingly distilled from 400 hours of real behind-the-scenes footage shot through a year. It sneaks us into the middle of heated arguments, inside jokes, campaign strategies and the true events and ideologies that inform the rhetoric, as we follow the birth of the newest political party in India – the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

An Insignificant Man’, directed by Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla under the banners of Global media giant Vice, produced by Anand Gandhi is slated to release on 17th November, 2017.

#Sonam KapoorREVEALED Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor’s film titled Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga
Earlier last month, we had reported that Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor will be coming together for the first time in a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. To be directed by Shelly Chopra, the film’s title has been locked and it is said to be Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.

It is obvious that the title will make you nostalgic, as it takes you back to the song created by RD Burman for the film 1942: A Love Story [1994]. Interestingly, the said number was picturized on Anil Kapoor and was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. As mentioned before, Shelly Chopra was supposed to make a film titled Marco Bau which revolved around a father-daughter relationship. This had further given rise to speculations that Shelly’s next would probably be similar when she announced about roping in Anil and Sonam for the film.

  16. Golmaal Again set for a great run this Diwali

    ByJoginder TutejaOct 16, 2017 – 10:25 am IST

What works big time in favour of the film is the franchise value that it carries. Golmaal has stayed on to be one of the most loved franchises ever since the first one came in 2006. In the 11 years gone by, there has been Golmaal Returns [2008] as well as Golmaal 3 [2010], each one turning out to be bigger than the last in the series. As a matter of fact the third one even entered the Rs. 100 Crore Club, hence adding on to the many centuries that Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty have scored over the years.

Now that Golmaal Again is arriving 7 years after the last in the series, expectations are that not just would it be much bigger in terms of scale, it would also emerge as a much bigger entertainer. After all, the franchise has only become huger over the years and with audiences reviving the genre with Judwaa 2 just a couple of weeks back, the timing of Golmaal Again couldn’t have been better.

  17. The last few years have been underwhelming at the BO for Diwali.

PRDP grossed around 200cr in 2015. Last year there was a clash and both movies’ totals combined could not even get to that. ADHM collected around 105cr while Shivaay was at around 90cr.

It has been a poor year BO-wise (Baahubali 2 apart). I hope to be wrong but I do feel that both movies combined for this Diwali as well may find it tough to go much beyond 200cr.

If I were a betting man, I would say SS will probably collect around 75cr while G4 will be at around 130cr. Both movies will be good hits if so, which is good news at least compared to last year when both movies underwhelmed.

SS may still surprise and go higher if it ends up being really liked. Aamir has defied the odds so many times. But I don’t think G4 will gross much higher than what I predict here.

I hope, though, I am wrong and both end up doing 150cr plus.

Looks like, Golmaal Again will be taking an amazing start on its opening day. The film’s advance booking can be seen good particularly for the evening to late evening shows. At some cinemas, the entire day has been filling fast while some are pacing up for getting house-full 2 days before the release.

    Delhi-NCR:
Delhi-NCR region is a bit vacant comparing Mumbai. Few of the shows are in the filling fast category while others are yet to get full. The bookings are expected to take off high from today.

    Pune:
In Pune, the response for Golmaal Again seems extremely low. The morning shows for Friday are still quite easily available, also the evening shows are not exactly full yet.

    Bengaluru:
In Bengaluru, all the theaters have a maximum of five shows in a day. Amongst them, booking is hardly anything with the majority of shows still available.

    Chennai:
In Chennai, hardly 5-6 theaters have started with the advance bookings. One may expect these to pick up by tomorrow.

One of Bollywood’s most underrated directors passed away quietly at the age of 88. Lekh Tandon gave us a slim slew of scintillating cinema starting with the blockbuster Professor in 1962. The oddball comedy paired Shammi Kapoor with, of all people,Lalita Pawar! Many decades later Reema Rakeshnath remake Tandon’s blockbuster –very shabbily—as Dil Tera Aashiq.

After directing the much-loved musical Jhuk Gaya Aasman (Rajendra Kumar-Saira Banu in an afterlife comedy), Prince (bringing together the Professor hero Shammi Kapoor with Vyjanthimala for the first time and last time) Lekh Tandon directed Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye in 1977.

The small-budget film starring two newcomers Prem Kishen (actor Premnath’s son) and Rameshwari Talluri became the biggest hit in the history of Rajshri Productions. If we look at its austere budget and the staggering profits, Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye was even bigger than Rajshris’ Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

After the hit Agar Tum Na Hote in 1983 Lekh Tandon kept a low profile as a director choosing to act in films like Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades, Amol Palekar’s Paheli and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti.

Shabana Azmi who did two remarkable films with Lekh Tandon says, “Sad to hear he has passed away. But what is wonderful is that he did so with his boots on. He was working in his latest film with the enthusiasm of a newcomer. I did two lovely films with him Ek Baar Kaho and Doosri Dulhan a film way before its time on surrogacy. Shekhar Kapur often says that he learned a lot from Lekhji. He was an underrated filmmaker.”

Perhaps Tandon’s most celebrated film was the historical Amrapali in 1966 recreating the legendary romance between the courtesan Amrapali (Vyjanthimala) and the Magadh emperor Ajayshatru (Sunil Dutt). The film’s opulence and periodicity had stunned the world then as it continues to do now.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali an ardent admirer of Lekh Tandon’s work says, “Amrapali inspired my historicals Bajirao Mastani and Padmavati. The way he recreated the war scenes and specially the way he presented the amazing Vyjanthimalaji in those incredible songs like ‘Tumhe Yaad Karte Karte’, ‘Jao Re Jogi Tum Jao Re’, ‘Tadapyeh Dil Raat Ki’ and ‘Neel Gagan Ki Chaon Mein’ were definitely my reference point for Deepika Padukone in Bajirao Mastani and Padmavati.”

Bengali legend Victor Bannerjee who worked with Lekh Tandon in Doosri Dulhan says, “I owe my living happily in Mussoorie to Lekh Tandon and Professor is one of the very few Hindi films I’ve seen and I absolutely loved its tomfoolery. But, Lekhji was also a follower of Sri Ram Krishna Paramahansa and hence a deeper individual than he let on to be.”
