IMO, the divorce happened because of a British journo issue.

Apart from Lagaan rumors, he was also said to be romantically involved with Zinta while shooting DCH, which was not far apart. It seems that although Aamir can spend years on the same film, he cant stick to one woman for any substantial amount of time.

  5. Pad Man Has Decent First Week
    Friday 16 February 2018 11.45 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Pad Man had a decent first week of 62 crore nett as it held well on the weekdays after a very average start. The film jumped very well on Saturday but could not follow up on Sunday as families in places like Jaipur and Kanpur did not really come and this is the audience that can really push a film.

The film took advantage of the partial holidays to hold up well midweek and the drop came on day seven which was always likely. The weekdays held well but places that can sustain well in the long run like Punjab, Delhi, UP and Gujarat are not the drivers of the film. It is doing comparatively better in places like Mumbai and Bangalore.

The eighth day is the test for the film with competition from a new release and a strong holdover film. The film is a success but will have to show a 10-15% drop from Thursday to emerge a solid HIT, normally films drop more when a new film comes but there are case of no drop as well but generally those films open at around half the range of Pad Man.

The collections for Pad Man for the first week are as follows

    Friday – 10,00,00,000 apprx

    Saturday – 13,50,00,000 apprx

    Sunday – 16,00,00,000 apprx

    Monday – 5,75,00,000 apprx

    Tuesday – 6,00,00,000 apprx

    Wednesday – 7,00,00,000 apprx

  6. Sushant Singh Rajput at loggerheads with his Kedarnath director Abhishek Kapoor
    BySubhash K. JhaFeb 16, 2018 – 10:44 am IST

.Reports of constant conflict between the director and his leading man filtered out of the Kedarnath location.

Says a source close to the project, “Sushant Singh Raput didn’t agree with the way Gattu (Abhishek Kapoor) interpreted Sushant Singh Rajput’s character. They also didn’t agree on several issues regarding the script. There were constant tussles and heated arguments between the two. Sushant’s dates were also not used properly by Gattu. A lot of Sushant’s time was wasted. Now Sushant has left for Chambal in a huff to shoot for Abhishiek Chaubey’s Son Chiriya.”

Adding to Sushant’s woes is the fact that Kedarnath now stands stalled due to a dispute between the director and his producers. Sushant Singh Raput is no stranger to stalled projects. While his outer space film Chanda Mama Door Ke stands suspended at the moment, Sushant’s other ready-for-release film Drive is apparently being re-shot.

  9. Aiyaary Opens Poor But Black Panther Excellent
    Friday 16 February 2018 14.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Aiyaary has taken poor opening 10-15% but Black Panther has taken over the box office with an excellent opening of 40-45%. The film may not be the superhero type of film for the Indian audiences but the extraordinary feedback from the West has meant a very strong opening in all metros. Then on top there is action for the non metro audience to take a decent start there.

The Hindi release Aiyaary mainly has the problem of genre which struggles in India. The film is a spy thriller and when a film falls in that thriller genre it makes it tough. A spy action film and then its a different story but most makers today tend to go the thriller way with spy films discounting Tiger Zinda Hai.

A film of this genre has to open as growth is not going to type that concept films can get so its going to an uphill battle for Aiyaary. Black Panther looks set to for a good run and has even hit the figures of holdover release Pad Man and to an extent Padmaavat but that film was at a lower level last week.

The opening comparison of the opening show collections of Aiyaary, Ittefaq and A Gentleman can be seen below. A Gentleman is actually the best opener though obviously films like Aiyaari and Ittefaq have more chance to grow in the evening. But unless the growth is substantial it becomes a similar story as the ground lost is slowly made up in the evening. All the figures below are like for like.

  14. @munna the other thread closed so jotting down some thoughts –

Logically everyone thought Sandy Hook with massacre of 6 years old would be the breaking point to shake souls of even the hardened advocates of the gun brigade….but at that time Obama being the first Black president was walking a tightrope and under pressure to not leave a legacy of drastically altering the way majority wished to lead their life. But now since Americans have a Caucasian white blood male back at the helm and with 3 major shootings in quick succession on his watch esp the massive one at Las Vegas and then this one should at least call for a debate to stop and ponder at this sickening trend…. and this trend is bound to to get intensified with a heady mix of social media where we have clearly seen saner voice develop into wackos & their constant verbal diarrhoea turning them into psychos.

In my estimation this gun lobby & funding candidates is just a façade as this is a rich nation and money coming in to support these candidates is peanuts compared to what’s at stake. At some levels one can understand their basic right to defend themselves given their limits to physicality compared to other race plus their fascination to lead secluded life up and far from the world into the woodland. But times have changed since then and we now live in a modernized world and those threats are much diminished and carrying such assault weapon in this so called terror infected society is illogical to say the least.

This current shooter got a AR 15 massive assault weapon a year back when he was just 17 or 18 and as news channels shooter was too young to buy a beer in Florida but old enough to buy one of these & carry out a major attack in school…..apparently the argument is he was mentally deranged and a psycho but that is all the more reason not to allow access to such weapons. Sadly they are not even taking baby steps to rectify this menace of society which has killed more than this terror nonsense they keep throwing at people.

The headline here does give some hope esp NYPost is considered conservative dugout.

Jimmy Kimmel pleaded with President Donald Trump to take action on gun control after Wednesday’s mass shooting at a Florida high school.

His voice cracking with emotion, Kimmel called out Trump on Thursday night for offering platitudes instead of solutions.

“You still haven’t done anything, nothing, you’ve literally done nothing,” Kimmel said. “Actually, you’ve done worse than nothing.”

Kimmel then defused Republicans’ standard reaction to mass shootings, which is to blame mental health issues rather than guns:

“You like to say this is a mental health issue but one of your very first acts as president, Mr. Trump, was to actually roll back the regulations that were designed to keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill. You did that. Your party voted to repeal the mandates on coverage for mental health. So, I agree, this is a mental illness issue because if you don’t agree we need to do something about it, you’re obviously mentally ill.”
Kimmel also offered a warning to NRA-backed lawmakers who refuse to help stop gun violence.

“Somewhere along the line, these guys forgot they work for us, not the NRA. Us,” he said. “And this time, we’re not gonna allow you to bow your head in prayer for two weeks until you get an all-clear and we move on to the next thing.”

Then, he urged viewers to visit everytown.org, the website of a nonprofit group that advocates for gun control and helps voters contact lawmakers.

      • So Trump’s response to gun crime massacre is to give guns to teachers and train them to use them? What happens when a teacher becomes crazy (possible in a highly toxic school environment) and starts killing everyone in sight? Is he the dumbest person ever in the White House?

Why not start a ban on guns in a state and see what happens? Surely long term a country wide ban is the logical step.

    • I think nothing is going to come out of these incidences..I have been reading comments on Yahoo and you can see how people love their guns..Even in mostly liberal California I encounter people who love their guns…Infact when one representative (Ro Khanna) came for pre election talk at our office, one of colleagues asked his position on gun..colleague was pro gun….I don’t think anything is going to change view of such people till they have one such incidence in vicinity to affect them…

ps – One of the comments on Yahoo was..people are talking about 17 dead but no one talks about 60 dead in Chicago..this is line of argument..

ps1 – Now conservatives are in majority in Supreme Court, any law to control guns is going to be challenged..

  18. REVEALED: Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha to play lawyers in court room drama on rape

ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkFeb 17, 2018 – 11:50 am IST
Akshaye Khanna faced several ups and downs in his life in the past few years. He lost his father and veteran actor Vinod Khanna last year to cancer. While he is still recovering from the personal loss, the actor is on his way to revive his Bollywood career. The actor, after films like Dishoom and Ittefaq, is now all set for another intriguing role. He will be seen as a lawyer in Section 375: Marzi Ya Jabardasti along with Richa Chadha

The film in question will be directed by Rahasya fame Manish Gupta. The film revolves around the debate of how women often misuse rape laws. These stringent laws are created by the government for the protection of female gender. But there are many who use its loopholes for their own personal benefit. The film Section 375: Marzi Ya Jabardasti explores these two aspects of the same coins. It is inspired by 10 real life cases.

Speaking on getting Akshaye Khanna on board, Manish revealed that he wasn’t looking for a quintessential hero. His requirements were that of an intelligent guy who looks approximately 40 years old. For him, Akshaye was the perfect match for the role of a suave SoBo [South Mumbai] lawyer who is fluent in English. On the other hand, Richa Chadha will be seen as a public prosecutor.

On the other hand, Manish Gupta revealed that he has undergone extensive research for the film. From meeting alleged rape accused to survivors, he even explained the process of a special court. It has a female judge who is generally appointed only to hear rape cases. Talking about the same Manish says, “Rape laws are being misused by men and women alike leaving the judiciary and police confused as to which rape case is genuine and which is fake.” Further adding about the research he underwent the filmmaker adds, “There are special courts with female judges who only hear rape cases. I have also met survivors, their families, alleged rapists and lawyers representing both sides” he says. “It’s very disturbing not only for the accused and the survivors but also their families.”

Furthermore, talking about the film, it brings forth the much discussed debate on rape and consensual sex. Manish also asserted that the suspense of whether it was rape or consensual will keep the audience gripped till the end. He also stated that both the lawyers will have ample evidence to back up their case.

Section 375: Marzi Ya Jabardasti is said to be produced by Abhishek Pathak, son of producer Kumar Mangat. Pathak revealed that he was super impressed with the script and was immediately drawn to the idea. Hence he decided to back the project. “I have seen Manish’s Rahasya and we thought it was a great film. We know what he will be able to achieve with this script. When he came to us, we were drawn by the idea of Section 375 and decided to back the project.” Further details on the film aren’t available as of now. The film is expected to go on floor in March – April this year.

Aiyaary And Black Panther First Day Business
    Saturday 17 February 2018 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Aiyaary had a low opening of 3-3.25 crore nett with the film opening slow and just having the normal evening follow up when it really had to improve. This makes it very tough for the film as thriller films dont really show huge growth on day two and this film needs to be going 60-70% up to have a chance.

The promos were not impressive and the film hardly had any music but the film had fair production values so though a big opening was never going to happen but it should also not be down in the 3 crore nett range. The film showed the same picture all over with poor collections.

Aiyaary has opened in that same range as the last few Siddharth Malhotra films. The lowest opener of the below films in the morning shows was actually Ittefaq but it showed by fat the best growth in evening shows.

Black Panther which was playing on almost 55% of the screens of Aiyaary did very well as it grossed 5-5.25 crore nett on day one. The film was very good in all the metros and even collected better than Aiyaary in the smaller circuits where Hollywood films have a lesser market unless its a franchise film.

Pad Man had a drop on day eight as it collected 2 crore nett and took its eight day to around 64 crore nett. The film is probably going to close around the 80 crore nett mark which is a fair total for a film on this subject but the industry was expected more due to the huge success of Toilet Ek Prem Katha.

The business of Pad Man has mainly come due to the presence of Akshay Kumar and the difference between Pad Man and Toilet Ek Prem Katha is the latter was more mass appealing with good humour and was generally a louder film while Pad Man was more subtle.

The film had to go above 3 crore nett on the second Friday to emerge a solid hit but fell well short and this was also the film which got hurt most by the opening of Black Panther which took over the centres (metros) where Pad Man was its best business.

The collections for Pad Man till date are as follows

    Friday – 10,00,00,000 apprx

    Saturday – 13,50,00,000 apprx

    Sunday – 16,00,00,000 apprx

  23. Here’s why Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat in 3D almost didn’t happen
ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkFeb 17, 2018 – 1:18 pm IST

Fans can’t stop raving about the 3D version of Padmaavat and how it drew them right into the world of Queen Padmavati. However, it is a little known fact that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had long been considering the idea of releasing his films in 3D. “We wanted to try 3D with Guzaarish and we’d also tested a few shots for Bajirao Mastani which looked fantastic but it eventually didn’t happen,” shared DoP Sudeep Chatterjee. The splendid colour grading and stereo conversion services for Padmaavat were handed over to Prime Focus World (PFW). Jimmy Philip, PFW Stereo Supervisor worked closely with Padmaavat’s DoP – Sudeep Chatterjee and Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to deliver the 3D version of the magnum opus.

Sudeep also went on to reveal how Padmaavat in 3D almost didn’t happen. He said, “Padmaavat in 3D was always an idea but it was only sometime in July-August when we got a nod for 3D conversion. Although a major apprehension was that there was very less time and we weren’t sure if we’d be able to pull it off. There are many things that can go wrong during 3D conversion – ideas can shift, dimensions can shift, with one character appearing bigger than the other. So naturally, a lot of work was put into the conversion of the film.”

Sharing details about the behind-the-scenes efforts that went into making the 3D version a reality, Jimmy Philip, PFW Stereo Supervisor said, “There are lots of 3D moments in this scene, with floating embers, dust drifting across the battlefield and arrows flying towards camera – it’s a great sequence and a fittingly dramatic climax for the film. We leveraged our extensive elements library to recreate most of these FX elements, while also carrying out additional comping to enhance the overall effect.”

Talking about the enormity of the task, Jimmy shared, “Over 2000 stereo shots that we delivered for the movie were completed in a tight timeframe of just 2 months.”

As they say, hard-work always pays and Padmaavat emerged strong amidst controversies to give the audiences an unforgettable visual treat.

  32. Aiyaary And Black Panther Second Day Business
    Sunday 18 February 2018 13.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Aiyaary showed growth of around 30% to collect 4.25 crore nett on its second day but it is not good enough for the film as the only way forward was a 5 crore nett second day which would have given the film a chance. The two day total of the film stands at 7.50 crore nett and that is far too low.

The film is mainly collecting in metros so Sunday growth on a best case scenario can match the Saturday growth. The collections of Aiyaary over the first two days are as follows.

    Friday – 3,25,00,000

    Saturday – 4,25,00,000

    TOTAL – 7,50,00,000

Black Panther showed an upturn of 20% on Saturday which is lower than normal for a Hollywood release but the film had opened far bigger than what the film is worth for the Indian market. The two day business of the film is around 11.50 crore nett but the trend on Saturday suggests its going to find it hard in the long run in India.

The film may be setting the box office ablaze worldwide but India is a different market altogether and goes its own way. Even Aiyaary which is not going to do much managed to show a better Saturday trend.

The first two day collectons of Black Panther are as follows

    Friday – 5,25,00,000 apprx

    Saturday – 6,25,00,000 apprx

Padmaavat again showed huge growth on Saturday to collect around 2.50-2.75 crore nett. This has taken the total business of the film to 260 crore nett and is heading for a huge fourth week which will easily cross 10 crore nett.

The film is now playing at most centers of Madhya Pradesh and is the top film in that state beating figures of Pad Man, Aiyaary and Black Panther despite being released late. The film is also getting close to the all India collections of Pad Mana nd could start to collect more than that film towards the end of the week. If not by the end of the week then next week for sure it will go ahead.

The business of Padmaavat till date is as follows.

    First Week – 1,59,47,00,000

Does being Kosher matter when it comes to stars? Celebrities are like BOI. People believe that the numbers they spit out are the best, while their sick mindset can be seen in their commentary.

Celebrities who are active on social media run the risk of exposing their mortal self that lies hidden beneath the rehearsed and scripted public appearances, which are part of their job. What fans adore is the ‘performances’ (live or onscreen), which hardly has much to do with their real self.

Anyways, I like fans who want to at least believe that their hero is all kosher, than fans of say a Salman Khan. The ‘mythic’ Ram and Ravaan both have enough fans!

I doubt if Bachchan or Tendulkar are sadhus, but one can still appreciate their talent and hard work.

        • And again; maybe the message’s lost; or I am just incapable of proper communication.

Livewire or anyone else might be gloating but there’s never been an ounce of doubt from my side that AB Sr is as insecure or even moody as you or I, the insignificants. What’s important is, to me that doesn’t matter. Is he accused of being a traitor, with cow-dung smeared on the posters of SHAHENSHAH? Is he accused of being ‘manipulative’ by reducing other’s roles in his films? Is it true? I don’t know. Is he accused of back-stabbing Amar Singh? I don’t know; and I don’t care. What I do believe, is he is a ‘human’, and not pretending to ‘be’ a human.

Just as I don’t care about SRK dancing in weddings or Salman inaugurating a driving school.

Everyone is living in hubris. Tendulkar was blasted for trying to avoid duties on his Ferrari. Vinod ran off to Osho. Raj Kapoor was famously known to have been obsessed with women’s breasts and would drunkenly fall on them. He once had Dilip Kumar invited to his house for dinner and had him drunk, and didn’t bother to send him back home in his car or a cab. Kumar was found nestled in a gutter: Before this could become a scandal, Kumar’s assistants found him and safely took him home. But then, you also have the pic of the triumvirate as though they were taking the industry ‘unitedly’ to higher standards; which they were of course!

My memories of Bachchan are only the ones related to the joy he gave me when he was on-screen; nothing more, nothing less. My memory of Tendulkar is that of STEVE WAUGH confessing in the Sharjah finals that ‘Australia lost to a better ‘player.’

What Bachchan or Tendulkar do in their spare-time with that disease called social networking is upto them. If they are so obsessed with that, so be it. The only thing that interests me in Bachchan’s blog or his FB or that crappy Twitter is the images he posts of yore and those recollections; or him talking fondly of his father’s poetic gatherings; or the times he shared with his co-stars. Nothing else. I don’t care what his wife does, his son does, or when his grand-daughter eats or shits.

What, however, irritates me of the likes of the driver and the ‘accused’ animal-killing kind is the ‘arrogance.’ If there’s one thing I personally cannot stand, it’s arrogance – however gifted you are, however well-off you are. I don’t care.

As is constantly being brought up here, if AB is guilty of tax-fraud, of ranting at the loss of some twitter shitty-followers, nail him. He is guilty, he goes to prison; that’s all. I will lose the faith that I had in him as a sensitive human being who fought a case to just prove to his father that he wasn’t a traitor. That’s about it.

So, it’s a moot point whether somebody comes up here with bummy emojis to gleefully prove that some-how being accused of murdering poor people dwelling on a foot-path is the same as a tax-fraud: By that count, all OTHER charges against Al Capone should be forgotten…

This ‘God’ phenomenon maybe more pronounced in a developing economies like India than say in the States. This may be food for some theses in social studies.

SS got more than its due at Chinese box office. In a way, Chinese market paid back its due to Aamir after 3I made millions in its piracy market (but hardly did much during its theatrical release later on).

In many ways, this decade has been about Aamir getting his due at the Indian BO too with back-to-back ATBs in D3, PK and Dangal. A culmination of the goodwill he had generated with his work from Lagaan to 3I. ToH is likely to continue that trend and should be a bonafide blockbuster.

There is so much suggested physical violence like twisting fingers again and again, a man in a washing machine and high school comedy with ghosts. Mela looked better and if released in today’s times, it would have become a big hit!
And the comedy is so stale and washed out.

Imran Khan married Bushra Bibi in Lahore on Sunday. His first marriage was with Jemima Goldsmith, daughter of a British billionaire, in 1995, and the second one with TV anchor Reham Khan in 2015.

Bushra is in her 40s and belongs to the Wattoo clan, of which the Manekas are a sub-clan. She was earlier married to Khawar Farid Maneka, a senior customs official but the couple divorced some months ago.

Khan also said Bushra had sought some time to consult her family, especially her children. He had also stressed the need for restraint, asking the media to “give the two families, especially the children, their privacy”.

Local media reports said that over the past few years, Khan had quietly been visiting a remote town in Sahiwal of Punjab province where he stayed at the residence of his hosts, who belong to the influential Maneka clan.

The reports suggested that Khan had met there with Bushra for spiritual advice.

  45. Akshay Kumar: Entertainment is the best way to spread social message

Pad Man has been widely applauded. Do you think you have achieved what you had set out to do?
I’m happy that people have watched the film because it means that menstrual hygiene isn’t a taboo topic anymore. My family never spoke to me about sanitary pads, but in my house, there’s nothing that my wife, Tina (Twinkle Khanna) and I hide from our kids, especially our son Aarav because he’s older now.

Does a movie with a social message affect you personally?
Yes, to a certain point, it does affect me. When you take up a film like Pad Man, you start learning about facts and real stories — this maid’s story, that villager’s story, some girl who committed suicide because somebody teased her about menstruation — and all of this makes you think. You feel so strongly about such things that you just want to push this film.

Even with biopics, you tend to pick untold stories of lesser-known people. Is that a conscious move?
Nobody knew about Arunachalam Muruganantham or the guy (Shivaram Narre) behind Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I pick such stories because somewhere, their heroism is a matter of pride for me. When I come to know about them, I feel like bringing their stories in front of people. Also, more than the people, it’s the cause that moves me, which is why I’m dedicated to a film like this. Pad Man addresses a huge issue.

There are actors who take up such social films and work towards a cause only till their film’s release…
It’s not just a film or acting for me. Once the film releases, it doesn’t mean my job is over. In about four-five days, I will shoot a documentary for the Government about sanitation. Even Bhumi (Pednekar) has been asked to do it as a public service. I decided to take it up because I believed in it. I can’t even talk about what I’ve seen, read or heard about traditional menstruation practices. Around 42 crore women don’t use sanitary pads. Even if it changes three, five or 10 per cent, I would consider it great.

Initially, you were known for only action-oriented films. Now, that perception has changed…
That’s an achievement for me. When a filmmaker thinks about a film and feels that only I can do the role, it makes me happy. They won’t think that yeh toh comedy hai, tragedy hai, yeh villain ka role hai — they know they can come to me with all of it. I have done it with my hard work and my parents’ blessings. Earlier, there were so many films being made, but I would only get a small chunk of action flicks. The rest were taken up by other actors. I would never get them. That hunger got me to attempt different kind of movies.

    Do you take yourself seriously?
No, I don’t take myself seriously. I work in a good environment where I want to laugh and smile. I’m not that kind of an actor who would close the door and rehearse for a month for a role. I know actors who do it, but I cannot follow the same. I can work on it for four-five days, think about it, absorb the character and do it naturally. For me, acting isn’t work but my passion and it comes only when you are happy within. If you see me on the sets shooting, you will notice I smile, even while doing a serious scene.

Do you discuss your films with Twinkle or Aarav?
No! They just come and watch my films. When my son watched Pad Man, he came up to me, patted me on my back and said, ‘Dad, good job!’ So, he enjoys all the films that I do.

      Q. With the success of Toilet Ek Prem Katha and now Padman, do you think that Bollywood should make more content driven films?

Akshay : See awareness can happen, and people are slowly accepting such movies also. Toilet and sanitation awareness was a much easier subject than menstruation and sanitary pads. There are a lot of villages, where people are not allowing their wives, daughters, mothers and sisters to go and watch the film.

People are more interested in films, what people see in films is more impactful, and they can understand that way. They don’t want to watch documentaries or listen to politicians. If actors go and speak to them, they are only interested in seeing the actors, they’ll see them and forget what the speech was about. We tried that with Toilet Ek Prem Katha, the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, people go to villages, play the movie, people watch it and pick up things from it. Entertainment is the best way to influence people, people pick up a lot from films, and they think by doing what the hero does, they can become heroes too, they can bring down the bad guys.

A source told Deccan Chronicle, “Gattu (Abhishek) is no stranger to replacements. During Fitoor, he sacked someone as senior and legendary as Rekha, and got Tabu on board. Kedarnath started on the wrong foot when he got the cinematographer replaced in the very first schedule. Then it was Sushant’s turn.”

Pad Man trended well in its second weekend with good growth on Saturday and Sunday but the collections are low for the second weekend. The film had a 8 crore nett weekend which has taken the business of the film to around 71 crore nett.

The film has basically behaved like an urban film despite having Akshay Kumar and a small town setting and films like this have a limit on business and Pad Man is no different. The film has grossed around 24 crore nett in Mumbai and 14.50 crore nett in Delhi / UP after ten days. The Mumbai performance is pretty good but Delhi / UP is not up to the mark.

However both the days were mostly working and saw 10-15% hike only for both Padmaavat and Padman. Probably these holidays on day 1 or day 2 of Padman would have made a bigger difference.

A national holiday would surely have for atleast 5cr more in the final tally for small budgeted Padman. For Padmaavat now 5 Cr looks a small amount.

Aiyaary had a poor first weekend and the growth was also limited for the film even though it was collecting at low levels. The film has grossed 11.75 crore nett apprx over its first weekend while a Itteffaq grossed 14.82 crore nett despite being made at around half the cost of Aiyaary.

There is little chance for Aiyaary after a dull weekend as this genre needs some sort of opening because it will not get the growth of a concept film. Here the film needed 60-70% minimum Saturday growth and that was never going to happen. The weekend collections of Aiyaary are as follows.

    Friday – 3,25,00,000

    Saturday – 4,25,00,000

    Sunday – 4,25,00,000

    TOTAL – 11,75,00,000

Black Panther has done decent business of close to 19 crore nett in its first weekend but the film has not really gone through considering the very good start. The film saw growth over the weekend but it is lower than what Hollywood releases should be doing.

  52. I stand vindicated Mr Marcus and Jayshah 🙂

Now that Padman is set to cross 80 Cr nett even by the sources who has lesser number, Padman is set to cross 80 Cr, the nett requiresed to call the movie a Hit/Semi Hit.

In my earlier discussion, there were many who were dismissive. People who have no idea about movies like Jeaves, etc copied tweets of unknown people to claim as truth. They wanted Padman to gross below Secret Superstar. They really prayed.

The unique plot of Padman, Menstrual Hygiene, while drove off lacs (esp in smaller towns) from the movie costing 25-30 Cr, it also added many new who otherwise don’t see a film in Hindi. This number is small but significant as it helped the movie to sustain in cities and other centres.

I knew this that the topic is the film’s virtue else Padman would have collapsed at 60 Cr, same as what SS made at the same cost as Padman.

However in some of the posts above Jayshah, the KRK of film blogs, the self acclaimed last word on everything….wrote few things personal and thought he has won the argument.

Marcus too, an otherwise reasonable person but a changed man after SS tanked in India, instead of accepting his defeat in his false theory, tried to vindicate himself. He is proven wrong thanks to the All India success of Padman.

The movie will now be shown free of cost in villages in India and abroad. The movie is set to be remade in Tamil and several other languages and is a cult movie. Another winner by Akshay Kumar.

Waite…let me have the last and final laugh.

    • I liked Padman more than TEPK.

TEPK had more entertaining moments despite having a taboo subject. It was about a belief system.

But Padman is pure. Its about the wrong in not knowing a basic fact till you get a wife or girlfriend. Its about feeling guilty as a man who in their lifetime have joked or laughed at a joke on periods. Its made from the heart. You can feel for Muruganathan. Its a must watch. Its a phenomenal movie. It touches your heart.

    • Naveen, you can laugh as much as you want.

Much before the release of Padman, I had insisted that it is likely to do around 70-80 cr. And had also said it will be a Hit at this range. Eventually, it will end at a few cr more than 80 cr mark. Given its budget of 20 cr, it is still a BO hit.

But you took offense at this supposedly low prediction and started talking nonsense to hype it up. My prediction did not have much to do with SS, but it was based on what happened with TEPK. After TEPK did 95 cr in week one, many predicted it will do 150 cr total, while I had insisted that it wont do much beyond 125-130 cr mark. Again that was based on how Housefull 3 and Rustom had trended the year before. Now subject of Padman is less appealing than TEPK, and one cant really expect it to do as much as 125-130 cr if market segmentation is considered. And considering how Akshay films usually trend, a 100 cr nett was always a high prediction for Padman.

I am not naive enough to compare an Aamir film with Akshay’s, even if both have social message and are made on uncomfortable topics. Its not just about expecting Aamir to give high grossers in unconventional settings. The problem with SS is that it points the finger too deep at the dominant male audience, while menstrual hygiene is just not interesting to the same segment. There is a difference.

There is also a difference between supporting role and leading role. Naam Shabana with Akshay in 15-20 mins role did 37 cr. SS with Aamir in 20-25 mins did 63 cr. Again there is a difference. SRK had an extended role of about 40-45 mins in DZ with a romantic angle involved and it still did only 65 cr. Lets not forget SS is from a debutant director with unknown actors (except Aamir). DZ was primarily an Aaliya film. Padman had Radhika and Sonam and a known director. So on and so forth.

DZ did well in overseas. SS is an All-Time-Blockbuster in overseas due to China. Naam Shabana or TEPK or Padman are insignificant in overseas markets.

But what you should take home, is that neither TEPK nor Padman is trending any better than SS in India. Also, a message about hygiene is not same as making movies about domestic violence and subordination in a deep-rooted patriarchal society.

    • Also, if you really believe that Akshay is a top star, you should expect 200 cr from Gold (which I think you did in another thread). But it is likely to be 150 cr nett movie, provided it gets a solo release over the Independence Day weekend.

I have said this before, movies like CDI and TZP would be doing 200 cr or so in today’s market (the totals of GA and Padmaavati supports this too). Gold is not going to be much different from CDI, and it has the advantage of highlighting men’s hockey team (not a female one). Its problem is that it lacks novelty factor. But then, Dangal released soon after Sultan. And this is ten years later.

Box Office: Padmaavat is now the 5th highest All Time overseas grosser

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, Feb 19, 2018 – 5:58 pm IST

The Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat created a storm at the box office on its release. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali the film has been doing brisk business despite facing hurdles in the run up to it release. In the international markets where Padmaavat did not face issues with its release the film’s business has been touching new highs. Now after its three week run at the box office, Padmaavat has emerged as the fifth highest all time overseas grosser.

Collecting USD 29 million in the overseas markets Padmaavat has managed to surpass the business of previous releases like Bajrangi Bhaijaan that collected USD 29 million, Dilwale that collected USD 25.6 million, 3 Idiots that collected USD 25.5 million, Sultan that collected USD 24.38 million, and My Name Is Khan that collected USD 23.5 million. However, the business of the film does not manage to surpass the collections of certain other releases like Dangal that collected USD 230.08 million, Secret Superstar that collected USD 124.14 million, P.K that collected USD 47.2 million and Dhoom 3 that collected USD 31.1 million.

Now, given that Padmaavat still continues to run in select locations all that remains to be see is whether the business of the film manages to cross the USD 30 million mark.

List of All Time Top Grossers in overseas

    Dangal – 230.08 mil. USD

Secret Superstar – 124.14 mil. USD

    P.K – 47.2 mil. USD

    Dhoom 3 – 31.1 mil. USD

    Padmaavat – 29 mil. USD

Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 29 mil. USD

    Dilwale – 25.6 mil. USD

    3 Idiots – 25.5 mil. USD

  62. ‘Black Panther’ Delivers Fifth Largest Opening of All-Time, Heading Toward $235M+ 4-Day Debut

    by Brad Brevet

    February 18, 2018

MONDAY AM UPDATE: Disney has revised their three and four-day estimates for Black Panther and as expected the grosses continue to rise with the film now delivering an estimated $201.7 million over the three-day and is expected to surpass $235 million for the four-day weekend. This makes Black Panther only the fifth movie to debut with over $200 million over its opening weekend and the third highest four-day gross in history, passing Jurassic World’s $234.1 million four-day gross.

The film will most likely break even more records once actuals are in, perhaps including the largest Sunday gross as the current Sunday estimate is currently less than $500k shy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the top spot. The film’s current estimate of $33.2 million for Monday is already the second largest Monday of all-time, again trailing Force Awakens’ $40.1 million Monday from back in December 2015.

It’s also worth noting after just four days in release Black Panther is already the 25th highest grossing comic book adaptation of all-time, 12th highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and 17th highest grossing Marvel comic adaptation of all-time. This is all before considering it decimated the previous February opening weekend record and President’s Day opening record.

I am sure we are going to see a movie on each character soon. Naam Shaban tried to do it, but Baby was never the biggest hit and shabana was never a strong character to be remembered.

I would say if Baahubali makers make films on some of the important characters like Katappa, DevSena, etc…it would also do roaring business.

I cannot think of any other movie in last few years that can have similar idea.

Maybe yesteryear hits like Sholay – Jai would be interesting.

Sometime in 2013, Karan had planned to make the film with Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan but due to some unknown reasons, Hrithik turned down the venture. 69. Padmaavat Has Best Monday Hold Since Release
    Tuesday 20 February 2018 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Padmaavat had its best hold on Monday since it released almost four weeks back. There is no drop on Monday as compared to the collections on Friday which is excellent. The film has already grossed 9.50 crore nett in its fourth week and looks to be heading for a 13.50 crore nett week four which will be only behind Bahubali – The Conclusion and Dangal.

This Monday figure suggests the film is going to run for a few weeks more and that the final total of the film will probably cross 275 crore nett and could even hit 280 crore nett. This is real value would make it the highest grossing Hindi film of all time outside Bahubali – The Conclusion. This is what would happened if after the hype and controversy the film got a clean uninterrupted run all over India.

The film say its worldwide number cross 500 crore on Monday and now stands at 501.50 crore and its seems to be heading for a finish of around 520 crore.

The second week collections of the film will gross around 14 crore nett which will take the film to around 76 crore nett and then it should go a little over 80 crore nett from there on. The film has decent figures in some parts of the country but the markets like North and Central and Bihar where Akshay Kumar films are strong have not performed. Both went overboard with promotions. Both claimed the films have shoestring budgets. Akshay took marketing to another level by wanting to show the film to the prime minister himself. And aamir showed the film to almost all the celebrities, trees, rivers, mountains and got their weary nods. Aamir praised Zaira and vouched that she is the best actress. He said that SS is better than Dangal. And he thought the film’s music is divine. And fought for screens and big release. Reality check made him to keep quiet afterwards and he quietly went about China release. I will talk about Indian market only. Both films have not pulled audience in droves. While Pad film is doing slightly better than SS.

While Salman never promotes his films but the films get automatically promoted just because of his name. The only time when he tried that promotion trick was for Tubelight, it fell flat. He suddenly thought he is jesus christ after Bajrangi and felt Tubelight will get him Nobel prize for peace.

And SRK! He did everything from turning Intiaz into a shadow to bringing a foreigner to sing an Indian song and the film fell very flat, if there is a phrase called very flat.

Ready for brickbats! Throw all the bricks at me without hesitation!

    • Promotion overdrive is often a sign of insecurity. Aamir miscalculated SS, he thought SS would do better in India. And he might not have expected 750 cr from China.

One thing is common between these three films – SS, Padman and TL. The star is the producer here and gets a huge proportion of the profits (if any). That also may have something to do with overblown marketing by them. 🙂

Btw, although 2.0 release is all up in the air, Hirani’s Sanju seems to be on track for June 29 release. WW distribution rights reportedly sold to Fox Star for 110 cr! Distributor’s expecting this to be a 200+ cr nett film and highest grosser of Ranbir till date. Padmaavat took away TZH’s glory within a month. Same might happen with Race 3 and Sanju.

Forget that debate between Aamir vs Salman for now. Salman is now being chased by Ranveer/Ranbir. And Akshay is struggling to get 100 cr after promotion overdrives. Dont think we will be getting any more of Naveen’s star rankings this year.

They diatribe is continuous and i am enjoying it. They are getting negatively impacted and i know it. I have two choices, either to leave them alone to sulk or backfire. 😀

Sindhu was the former Minister of State, who was ambushed by Canadian Sikhs during his private visit to Canada in 1986 and shot at. Sindhu survived the assassination attempt and four men who attempted the assassination, including Atwal, were convicted in 1987.
While he was invited to a formal event hosted by the Canadian High Commissioner Thursday in Delhi, the invitation now stands rescinded. Despite this, Atwal was seeing photographed with Trudeau’s wife Sophie and Liberal cabinet minister Amarjeet Sohi at a reception hosted by the Hindi film industry in Mumbai on Tuesday. This comes as a major embarrassment to Trudeau, who said Trudeau’s government and Canada stand for unified India and opposes any form of violence and extremism.

  81. Dear Akshay,

First of all from the entire team at Bollywood Hungama here’s big congratulations for believing in a film like Pad Man that has created tremendous awareness about menstrual hygiene in India. Sanitary pad vending machines are being installed at airports and other public places. Many other initiatives are being undertaken to instil a progressive bent of mind amidst people so that they can begin a dialogue. Fathers have started talking to their girls on the subject and mothers are feeling less burdened. Hopefully this movement will gain further momentum.

In spite of great reviews and a colossal marketing spin, Pad Man won’t be able to cross the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark. After five back to back Rs, 100 crore films (Singh is Bling (2015) was the last film that totalled less than Rs. 100 crores), this Akshay Kumar film will end its business at around Rs. 75-80 crore nett mark. But does that mean it wasn’t a good film? Of course not. Akshay’s films like Special 26, Baby and Oh My God didn’t cross Rs. 100 crore mark either but they remain landmark films in the last 15 years. Pad Man has earned tremendous respect. It is being called as the best work of Akshay Kumar till date. When Akshay shall look back at his career twenty years from now, then Pad Man will surely feature amongst his best works.

It is very important that Akshay Kumar should not get disheartened by the box office fate of Pad Man. It wouldn’t be surprising if he ends up winning another National Award for this performance. He has been making some brilliant script selections and he must continue doing that. His next film Gold is looking extremely good and it looks like a film that will go past the Rs. 100 crore mark. Most importantly Akshay must continue to be the great man that he is. His immense contribution to the society is hugely praiseworthy and he must keep inspiring people who look up to him. And yes he has been making many new fans for his brave choices. It’s all good!

  87. Reports of 20 cr budget of Padman is complete humbug. 20 cr is the raw production cost of the film. Another 15-20 cr has been spent on P&A. And deducting Akshay’s remuneration conveniently as he’s a co producer is laughable. In such a scenario, you consider the all India distribution cost of the film which would be around 35-40 cr. The all India share would turn out to be around 35-37 cr and hence the film is barely coverage for the distributors. If Akshay’s average remuneration is added, the landing cost of the film is around 70-75 cr, the number BOI would be considering (like they did 75 cr for TEPK). Either ways, the film is nothing more than Average/Below Average. Calling it a success without adding Akshay’s remuneration is akin to calling Kaabil, DZ and SS as super hits.

    Like

    • On the contrary, films like Padman and SS are distributed on commission basis. The distributors are not making a loot here (nor do they suffer losses), but producers make considerable profits.

There are cases like Kaabil and Raees etc where distributors make outright losses. But these films are considered some sort of successes. In that sense Padman/SS are big hits.

      Like

      • A movie starring Akshay or Aamir cannot be written off as a low budget 20 cr affair & made to look like hits. If that’s the case then there’s no difference between an Akshay starring in Padman or an Irfan starring in the same. The fact that the film has Akshay in the lead by default escalates the “real market value of the film to 70 cr+. Defending a film’s underperformance by claiming a low budget (without actor remuneration) is a futile argument. The fact is SS, Padman,DZ & Kaabil have all underperformed in the domestic market.

        Like

        • The real potential of a SS was a TZP which recorded 1.3 cr footfall back in 2007. The real potential of a DZ was a CDI esp with Alia in the lead. This is of course if both these films carried a 99% wom. Realistically, even a 80% wom would have led to 1cr footfall & 100cr+ totals for both these films.

          Like

        • Why TZP, SS should have done as much as Dangal. Same topic, same actors.

If Padman budget is 70 cr, then SS budget must be 1000 cr considering the all the money Aamir made from Dangal.

          Like

    • And before we start going in circles regarding this, I will add this. I dont buy the concept that distributors have to make so-much amount in order to call the movie a Hit (BOI logic).

Of course, no one should be losing money on a successful movie. But whether it was distributors or exhibitors or producers who made a fortune, does not matter in general. Who cares if producer got X% cut or the exhibitor, as long as everyone in the chain got their money back.

If you look at the production budget and the final gross, its not very difficult to make out which film is successful and which is not. As for the ‘shares’ to the decimal point, who cares?

      Liked by 1 person

    • And if you are interested in celebrities more than movies, then even final grosses dont matter much. Just like movies these days have a lot of other revenues than just theatrical box office receipts, the stardom of celebrities go much beyond the success/failure of their movies.

SRK has hardly given a BO success after HNY. But do a google trend on him for last 5 years and you wont see any dip in his popularity (web search is just an indicator here). The online interest in him is as much as Salman, despite the wide gap in how much their respective films had performed in this period. It is no surprise that SRK makes a killing by doing numerous endorsements even now.

In fact, you will find online interest is more in Akshay Kumar (what he eats and what he shits) than in Aamir Khan. You may be surprised to know that online interest in Aamir Khan is equivalent to that of Hrithik Roshan over the last 5 years! Yet, Aamir’s recall value to the theatrical audience is so high that his movies not only open well and gets to record grosses. But in general, public may not be that interested in Aamir Khan or what he is doing on a daily basis. In short, he may not be enjoying ‘fanatic’ following like other stars (outside this blog).

Not surprisingly, online interest in a film like Secret Superstar was more than in Aamir Khan in general. That is the reason why I find Ormax ratings and rankings as pure BS. Yes, in general the public is more interested to see SRK dancing in weddings, or Salman dancing at Filmfare awards. But when it comes to watching movies, many more may select an Aamir Khan film. You have to take that into consideration too.

      Like

      • Btw, when I am talking about online searches in google, the sample demographic is skewed towards A centers. It is hardly representative of B and C centers where Salman enjoys more popularity and Aamir perhaps even less ‘fan following’ than in A centers (movies like Tashan, SS, TZH, DCH hardly do much in these centers).

But in terms of movies, Dangal generated more online noise and exhaust than Sultan in 2016.

As a producer, he will be making as much money from profits of Padman as he would make from acting in Housefull and charging an upfront fee for it.

The actor is not so worried about getting stereotyped as an action star as Tiger Shroff feels that it is good to have an identity that too so early in his career. “I am so blessed to have been given an identity so early in my career. When people think of Tiger Shroff, they think of something, that’s a huge achievement for me. It was a dream to be an action hero and I am living that.”

Director Ahmed Khan said, “Both are really mature. They would come in separate cars. If Tiger would be on set, Disha wouldn’t be there and vice versa. On set, they were Ronnie and Neha (characters). And this comes from within you.”

The director further added, “Tiger, for one, I know is so hardworking. Very few actors are like him. If you ask him to do an action scene, he is ready do to. If you ask him for a bare body shot, he wouldn’t ask you, ‘Give me five days, one week.’ He would be ready for it in 10 minutes. He is a guy, who is a superhero without cape.”

Disha Patani said, “Because of him, I have started doing action, whatever little I have done. I have seen him train. I was on set once or twice when Tiger was doing his action scenes, because I believe when you are doing such a scene, you are in a different frame of mind. You should let the actor breathe. I don’t want to get hurt.”

    Tuesday – 1,20,00,000

    TOTAL – 14,45,00,000 (5 Days)

Black Panther also saw a 20% drop in collections but it is still doing decent business though a sustained run is looking tough. The business of Black Panther is as follows.

As a result, while a concept film done by an A-lister opens to an average 7 or 8 cr ( Dear Zindagi & Secret Superstar) – PadMan opened to a 10.5 crore on a non holiday Day1 and its already passed the lifetime business of many other concept films featuring A-listers in it.

India is paying the price for its obsession with billionaires
By Barkha Dutt February 20 at 10:00 PM

“….In a country where nearly 270,000 farmers have been driven to suicide since 2000, and nearly 80 percent because of an inability to repay small loans (the average value of most of these outstanding loans is about $3,000), it is criminal that millionaires and billionaires live it up as their unpaid loans suck dry the banking sector, and then simply take the next flight to London or Antwerp or Dubai, never to return. An Indiaspend report estimated that, in 2016 and 2017, more than 5,200 “willful defaulters” owed public-sector banks about $8.65 billion, much more than the government allocation for agriculture and farmer welfare. Yet, because these men make up India’s power elite and are embedded deep within the political system, their violations are handled with kid gloves — until it blows up in our faces…”.

  104. Padmaavat Real Value After Three Weeks
    Thursday 22 February 2018 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Padmaavat grossed 256 crore nett in three weeks and has not been released in Gujarat or Rajasthan as yet and saw a release in Madhya Pradesh in its third week. The film suffered in its opening week in Bihar and over the weekend in Delhi / UP and Haryana..

If we apply the average ratios of where the business is missing then the 256 crore nett after three weeks would equate to 336 crore nett after three weeks. An average ratio of the big films has been given but there is no doubt that the film would have out performed in Gujarat and Rajasthan which would make the total even higher. Its fair to say that the film would be at Dangal level at least and this is without the Xmas factor which Dangal had last year.

Bahubali – The Conclusion is at another level but Padmaavat can compete with any other Hindi film even though the amount collected at the box office will not be as high as some but there are reasons for that. It would have basically got around 375 crore nett at least with a clean release but the other side is would we be talking of these numbers if the film had released like any normal release without the hype created by probably the biggest controversy ever for a film in India. In another words could this star cast with this content actually have taken it this far without the external factors.

    1. Bahubali: The Conclusion – 4,58,42,00,000

    2. Dangal – 3,47,96,00,000

    • Agree with BoI an i think their hypothesis has good reasons to be believed. However they are generous to Dangal here. Padmaavat could also have crossed 350 Cr. But still can go by their estimate of 336 Cr.

Ofcourse as it topples PK handsomely, usual fans will protest. And hey, they will not provide logic as well. 😀

      • One should also note that while BOI has Dangal’s number same as producer’s, it has Padmaavat’s lower by 10-15 Cr when compared with producer’s total. And i will any day take Bhansali’s honesty over producers of Dangal or PK.

  105. Top Fifteen Films With Highest Footfalls Of 2017
    Thursday 22 February 2018 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

2017 saw a film get 5 crore plus footfalls and a film get 3 crore plus footfalls with another close to 2 crore footfalls. The top three films managed to get 10 crore plus admissions and this has not been since 1994 and here it was more because of one film Hum Aapke Hain Kaun which topped 7 crore footfalls. It was a great showing by the top three films in 2017.

If 1994 it was all about Hum Aapke Hain Kaun which set the box office on fire then last year it was about Bahubali – The Conclusion which emerged the biggest blockbuster of this century and the second biggest blockbuster of the last 25 years. 5 crore admissions looked like it was never going to happen again but Bahubali – The Conclusion proved it is still possible. The 510 crore nett business of Bahubali – The Conclusion will be beaten maybe in a couple of years or it may take longer but the real target for a film to be a historic great is the 5 crore plus footfalls. That is the challenge set by Bahubali – The Conclusion.

The top fifteen footfalls of 2017 are as follows. There were two other films which crossed 50 lakhs and those were Mubarakan (51.93 lakhs) and Secret Superstar (50.87 lakhs).

    1. Bahubali: The Conclusion – 5,25,22,000

    2. Tiger Zinda Hai – 3,08,00,000 apprx

Padmaavat grossed 256 crore nett in three weeks and has not been released in Gujarat or Rajasthan as yet and saw a release in Madhya Pradesh in its third week. The film suffered in its opening week in Bihar and over the weekend in Delhi / UP and Haryana..

If she has really decided to get rid of it, so does that mean she has now finally ended Ranbir’s chapter in her life? As this tattoo was the last souvenir she had with her.

But, in a earlier interview, post her break up with Ranbir, she had stated that she would retain her tattoo, no matter what happens in her life.

But, with her wedding reports making rounds in town, has she decided to change her decision and end all the old chapters of her life and mark a new beginning?

  109. Abhishek Kapoor Is Confident That His Film Will Be Better Than Zero
It was previously decided that Karan would launch Sara but he has not turned out to be Janhvi’s mentor.
    By Koimoi.com Team -February 22, 2018

Kedarnath is being jointly made by KriArj Entertainment, T-Series, Balaji Motion Pictures and director Abhishek Kapoor’s Guy In The Sky Pictures (GITS).

However, they had a fallout. While KriArj Entertainment representatives had blamed Kapoor’s unprofessional behaviour and mismanagement as the reason for a constant delay in the movie, Kapoor’s representative has said there was lack of transparency in KriArj Entertainment’s financial dealings.

Now according to a recent report in BollywoodLife, the report suggests that Abhishek Kapoor who is known as Gattu was going against the partners and releasing sensitive information. The time when Prerrna Arora had spoken to Abhishek about shifting the release date because SRK’s Zero was going to clash.

“Her suggestion hurt Gattu’s ego. So, he tweeted that Kedarnath would release with Zero, even after Prernaa had officially announced that the film would come on a different date.” She said.

“Right before the Zero teaser was released on January 1, Gattu sent out a text saying he had watched the teaser and the song and felt SRK looked like an alien in it. He has been ridiculing the actor and his look as a dwarf ever since. He is confident that his film will be better than Zero.” This was the message that Abhishek had forwarded.

On the other hand, he was also jealous about the fact that Karan is launching Janhvi. It was previously decided that Karan would launch Sara but he has now turned out to be Janhvi’s mentor.

A source claims, “He sent a few texts saying he feels it’s a rehash of a South film. He also said that the posters lacked steam. Hence, he didn’t consider Janhvi as a threat to Sara.”

Well that’s not all, the film will release on December 21st but Rohit and Ranveer’s movie Simmba will release on 28th. A source informed the daily, “He is extremely sure that Rohit won’t be able to wrap up Simmba in time and it won’t hit theatres on the decided date.”

The buzz is that Akshay, who has given memorable hits like Special 26 and Baby with the director, has fallen out with him over financial issues and it is therefore their proposed project, Crack, has been shelved. (Aiyaary: Director Neeraj Pandey on how he dealt with the several hiccups and a 3-week delay)

Pandey, whose political thriller film Aiyaary hit the screens on February 16, reacted to the matter in an exclusive conversation with us. On being asked if all was well between him and Akshay, Pandey said, “First of all, anything that happens between Mr Kumar and me, it doesn’t need to be spoken about in the public domain. I don’t think the question merits an answer.”

On being asked about his current equation with the Pad Man actor, Pandey said, “Have I ever spoken about my close proximity with Akshay Kumar? If I have not spoken about that, how do you expect me to answer to some baseless rumours? I wish work brings both of us together again.”

As for Crack, the director revealed, “As far as Crack is concerned, I am going to take my time on that and see whether I can arrive at a solution for the script. Once it gets set, I will be happy about it and see how it goes. For now, the film is on hold.”

Aiyaary, that stars Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead roles, has turned out to be a box-office dud. The film, in its four-day run, has earned over Rs 13 crore. Its Hollywood competitor, Black Panther, on the other hand, has minted Rs 22.62 crore.

    • I reckon we shall see the announcement pretty soon. Aamir is set to play Krishna and Ranveer Singh may play Arjun.

Aamir has roped in Imraan Khan, Ranveer Singh (likely).

      Few sources:

Aamir Khan confessed that it is his dream to make a Hindu epic. At the promotions of Secret Superstar, he said, “My dream project is to make the Mahabharata but I’m afraid of starting the project as I know it will consume at least 15-20 years of my life. My favourite character is Karna, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to play him due to my physique. I may just have to play Krishna. I also liked the character of Arjun. He was the only person who asked Krishna why he had to kill his own people,” he had said.

A source revealed to Asian Age, “They (Aamir and Ranveer) had a pretty long chat at the Global Investors Summit where Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present. The two talked about Padmaavat, Thugs of Hindostan and Mahabharata. What exactly was the discussion is a mystery though because they kept their conversation in hushed tones as if they didn’t want anyone to hear it.”

      –End

15-20 years mean it will be a 5 part epic spread over 3-4 years each.

I think apart from Krishna and Arjun, Aamir is likely to get very strong characters for Karna, Duryodhan and Draupadi.

My choices shall be Ajay for Karna, Akshay for Duryodhan and Deepika for Draupadi.

YRF may be the producer, again my speculation, thogh it may require many hands to co-produce.

TOH is probably an easy blockbuster now for YRF, as Aamir would have signed it pre Dangal / pre china stardom.

However with his new one in China, he can rope in Chinese production and craftsmen. Let’s see. He needs a strong production team to manage these things.

I decide to insert a topic about why Aamir can get success in China till now, and why his achievement is not so easy to copy, from tomorrow.

    @Mingry_D
    Feb 21
    More
Why Aamir’s success not so easy to copy? Reason 1: Initial Connection.
The earliest Aamir’s film popular in China was 3i, not in cinema, but shared privately. It means people really enjoyed this film, but not just intend to kill 2-3 hours time in cinema. (1/3)

    @Mingry_D
    Feb 21
    More
Also, it was a period when people would not be surprised for films which just have amazing special effects any more, after seeing Hollywood films for years, and became eager for good stories, which shall be the core of a good film. (2/3)

    @Mingry_D
    Feb 21
    More
And 3i is not just a good story, also it pointed out the issues in educational system for which we also feel pain. It connected emotionally with us, so close that we even forgot it’s a foreign film! Then we remembered this film, and the name of the hero, Aamir Khan!(3/3)

    @Mingry_D
    17h17 hours ago

    Reason2: Personal reputation
These years people just saw Aamir’s films got both high box office and reputation in China.Few of them noticed in the most famous rating site called Douban, what got unbelievable high rating are not Aamir’s films, but his TV show,Satyamev Jayate!(1/3)

    @Mingry_D
    17h17 hours ago

Actors joining in TV show are not rare, by which they can connected with audiences more. But the TV show Aamir chose didn’t contribute to his staring career, but more like challenging it! (2/3)

To point out social issues is already tough enough, plus what he did was not just exposing it, but showing a way to solution!
This show moved us, deeply. Then when we see him as hero in films, we start to believe it from bottom of the heart!(3/3)

  121. Weekly Update – Pad Man Padmaavat Aiyaary Black Panther
    Friday 23 February 2018 12.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Aiyaary is a box office disaster as it grossed around 16.25 crore nett in its first week. The film started poorly and could not do much over the weekend and then collections came down very fast over the weekdays. The occupancy was very low over the weekdays which has led to limited shows in week two with multiplexes giving it just one or two shows and that too in metros. In the rest of the country it is practically out and the film will not reach the 20 crore nett mark.

The Hollywood release Black Panther has done pretty well with first week business of 31 crore nett apprx. The film started very well and even held well on Monday but the falls were likely as the collections were better than the appreciation of the film as far as India goes.

The film will probably see a drop over the second week but it has still done well enough in the opening week to emerge a success and is a Semi Hit / Average fare

Padman saw a drop of 78% in its second week. The film has done pretty well in places like Mumbai, Pune , Bangalore and Kolkata where collections match a 100 crore nett plus film like Jolly LLB 2 released at the same time as Pad Man last year but its the core Hindi markets which have not really performed for the film.

In the Mumbai city / Thane belt Pad Man has collected 11.25 crore nett in two weeks while Jolly LLB 2 had grossed 11.50 crore nett in two weeks but In Delhi city its a huge gap with Jolly LKLB 2 at 9.50 crore and Pad Man at 6.50 crore nett. The first two week collections of Pad Man are as follows

    First Week – 62,00,00,000 apprx

    Second Week – 13,50,00,000 apprx

    TOTAL – 75,50,00,000

Padmaavat did very well in week four with collections of 13.25 crore nett which is the fourth highest week four ever after Bahubali – The Conclusion, 3 Idiots and Dangal though on fair value its higher than 3 Idioits and Dangal because if all India screened it would be collecting 16.25 crore nett. Bahubali – The Conclusion is another different level with 29.11 crore nett. The films was rock steady in the Tue – Thu period. The collections of Padmaavat till date are as follows

    First Week – 1,59,47,00,000

    Second Week – 66,93,00,000

    Third Week – 30,09,00,000

    Fourth Week – 13,25,00,000 apprx

    TOTAL – 2,69,74,00,000 apprx

See how they are padding up Pad Man. If it is some other film like SS, they would have said it performed only at elite multiplexes which is of less consequence and rejected by the real audience in the interirors. The verdict should have been a rejected film. But they will never say this to an Akshay film.

If SS is a rejected film, Pad Man is also a rejected film.

      • Padman is not a hit. Film’s content might be hit material and important but box office wise it’s not a hit. BOI’s ‘support’ can be seen through and it’s bias against other films is so obvious – supporters are in denial because the narrative is in sync with their desired outcome. So they have a sugar daddy coating their nonsensical beliefs and feel compelled to promote the propaganda at all costs, even their own flawed judgement and reputation doesn’t matter.

        Liked by 4 people

      • SS fell by only 65% in week 2 as compared to this 78-80% fall of Padman. Padman is trending much worse than SS. Its actually worse than even TEPK, which fell by 70% in week 2.

Its partisanship to call Padman hit or success and SS as average or rejected. Both needs to be classified in same terms. Going by production budget and BO total, both are small hits. But relative to trade expectations they are underperformers.

Dont happen such things often but few movies like Padman are special and once in a decade phenomena. Not to forget, once in a lifetime grace as well.

SS never had such heartfelt feedback. Comparing it with Padman is a sin.

Seriously saddened to find such hate against Aamir simply because he is in a league of his own.

I know what is a sin — hate and contempt against one individual, be it from a bullshi….g trade website, or any commenter on a film blog.

Aamir fans love their favourite, and most do not write against other’s favourites. Me, I just hope he does some worthwhile cinema before hanging up his boots. And I do wish he would get past his Mahabharat obsession by doing one Mahabharat and getting back to regular fare.

After that nothing as that were the intentions from beginning really. They didn’t bank on Dangal creating stardom in China for Aamir.

  123. Earlier we had reported that Saif Ali Khan and R Madhavan will come together for an untitled historical film. It will be directed by none other than NH10 fame director Navdeep Singh. Now we hear that a new name has been added to the star cast. Sonakshi Sinha will be reuniting with her Bullett Raja co-star Saif Ali Khan for this film.

  124. Yup, we must give credit to Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn to bring forward a powerful cop figure like Bajirao Singham. Now it seems that Salman Khan too is keen on taking a cop drama forward but it is for the small screen. The actor, who is venturing into production with a wrestling series, has already planned his next TV show. If rumours are to be believed, the superstar turned producer is gearing up for a cop drama.

  126. Sonu Ke Tito Ki Sweety Opens Very Well
    Friday 23 February 2018 13.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Sonu Ke Tito Ki Sweety has taken a strong start with collections in the 30-35% region. If we take morning occupancy then the film is actually the second best opening of 2018 after Padmaavat as occupancy is better than Pad Man though obviously its a lesser release.

The film was always looking to open well in Delhi / NCR / Punjab belt the content holds appeal for tha area and the songs which have done well had a very North flavour but the film has managed to open well in most of the major cities across India. The film will still out perform in the North and if the merits are there then it will mean a sustained run in Delhi / Punjab multiplexes which will mean a good long run.

The other release Welcome To New York had a poor opening though Punjab will be better due to the presence of Diljit Dosanjh. But the film is a spoof film and these have a limited market especially in North. On top the film is a comedy on the film industry which has scope in Mumbai as things about the industry are more widely known there but the rest of the country is generally unaware about filmy jokes. There are very few films which have worked that are based on the film industry.

It seems that Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth’s 2.0 will take some more time to see the light of day. The makers of 2.0 have postponed the release date several times and now the buzz is that they want to release it on Diwali 2018 alongside Aamir Khan’s Thugs Of Hindostan.

Earlier, the film was supposed to release on April 27, 2018 but due to Rajinikanth’s Kaala Karikaalan, 2.0 has been delayed for further release.

Now, according to BollywoodLife.com, the makers of 2.0 were planning to release the film on either Independence Day or Diwali 2018. The team is now deciding to release 2.0 on Diwali 2018 but guys, there’s a twist to this!

According to the reports, Lyca Productions doesn’t want 2.0 to clash with Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan. They feel both the films have the potential to do well but if they clash, things won’t work in their favour. They even tried to have a word with Aamir Khan too. But it seems Aamir is no mood to shift his film.

A source revealed to Bollywoodlife.com, “The makers want to release 2.0 during Diwali, so they tried to discuss things with Aamir Khan as his movie – Thugs of Hindostan is scheduled to release on the same day. However, Aamir said a resounding no when they first approached him. The actor feels Diwali is the perfect time to release Thugs and hence, he is holding on to the date.”

    • Something wrong with this report. It is Yashraj production, not Aamir’s. They would be talking to Yashraj.

It is Yashraj who locked the date first. Let them clash. Who is afraid of a clash?

    • ‘Clash’ is media coined words, as if there will be a fight or winner would be identified between the two contestants.
With 52-56 Fridays in a year, its natural 2 movies will release on the same day quite often.

2.0 is an All India movie with 60% bsuiness expected from South India.

ToH is North India + China movie with < 5% business expewcted from South India.

Those who are worried about opening day records or final outcome needs to worry. Akshay and his fans are relaxed about any co-releases.
