How many films will be ditched or cancelled here? Feels like this thing is only starting. Glad people are aborting. Housefull 4 would have been crap anyway, people are being saved the trouble here.
I think the producer will takeover direction from sajid. See the irony. When tanushree questioned they did not care and went about filming and when that thing hit the director directly they had to cancel the shooting. This is called poetic justice.

While getting actual BO data takes few weeks, its interesting to note for some production houses, #BOI data matches with official figure next day morning. It can only happen if data is fed by one single source to all publishers.
Seems that Tanushree Dutta has filed a case against Nana Patekar and Ganesh Acharya. TOH could very much be the latter’s last big directorial outing in the near future if so.
Are YRF going to include Acharya in the promotions campaign in the next couple of weeks? Let’s wait and see.
Ha. There is no way the audience stays away because of these allegations (not that anyone has made them with respect to the relevant actors yet; let’s not forget!). That just isn’t where the society is — we regularly elect people credibly accused of rape, murder, and pogroms. The only thing that might hurt someone’s election chances is serious accusations of financial corruption. Hard not to roll one’s eyes at that point.
Can you give me link? I did not like that film because it was unbearable to watch the lead and her artificial hichkis. After 15 minutes or so I switched off.
Rani Mukherjee is again a hugely overrated actress and she thinks that her diabetically sweet-sacchirine smile and looks are just enuf as an actress!! never really liked her except a Ghulam or Talaash kind of deal ……..
She is a very good actress. I liked her with Govinda also. Even in Chalte Chalte and Saathiya she was good.
In hichki, the role itself was somewhat a big putoff. Any other actress also would have been irritating in that role. I dont have anything against people with that problem But when it is portrayed onscreen it looks odd. Just like the way when dwarfs are used in films or very fat persons are used. Another role Rani could have avoided was that Aiyya role. It was embarrassing to watch do that role.
Aamir should stop recommending these films. He will lose credibility. But he has to oblige friends. A sticky situation.
I haven’t seen Hichki and can’t stand this sort of Hollywoody film anyway, but Rani is perhaps the finest actress of her generation in Hindi cinema — admittedly it isn’t a very inspiring generation, but that is so obvious I’m kind of amazed to have to even say it…
Hitchki is decent but a very irritating watch. But that’s unfortunate as the condition she has would probably annoy most people who are around a person with that kind of syndrome. I get hiccups a lot because ‘apparently’ I haven’t learnt how to drink properly and it annoys everyone around me. Some tell me someone is remembering me, must be a gujju superstition of sorts. But anyway the story is ok but the syndrome makes it a tough watch. Rani is ok, does the best she can.
The recent releases in China have been awful. Hopefully it has no bearing on TOH.
Hitchki has picked up well today with more than 100% growth.It wld cross Sultan.Also rating is good enough ie. 9.3 for a decent trending.But all these content movies r lacking the reach which an Aamir movie wld have in China plus it’s an overdose of these social movies.
Aamir had to recommend Hitchki for two reasons — YRF, his current producer; and Rani who is an old friend, his 4.00 am phone to friend,by her own admission on a KJo show. Aamir also recommended Hitchki after watching it with TOH team at Jaipur/Jodhpur earlier this year.
Sigh, the things one needs todo to keep all happy. Now his current action against continuing with Mugal film is in part due to biwi Kiran’s say so…perhaps.
Usually men’s take on these things is quite different. They just brush it off or laugh it off. They think women are complaining too much. As this issue has snowballed, most men are confused.
actually Aamir and Big B have been succumbing to this “recommend” syndrom for their good industry friends – but always their recommendation are not paying off! u see, aamir has recommended so many films in last 1 year and except Sairat, none of them have worked – so audiences everywhere are smart! they will flock to his movies but his recommendations are brushed away 🙂 same with Big B – he used to recommend every movie which came his way (thankfully, he has stopped that now)…..
absolutely, subtlety and sinking-one’s teeth-in-the-character – rani shd learn from Tabu or Aamir – these ppl become the character and when i saw trailer of Hitchki – Rani was full-on make-up with that sachharine/diabetic smile and facial expression (sic.) – i said what on earth! glorifying hitchki and making it look like an underdog film a-la- TZP……this is where u can see aamir/tabu’s committment to the characterization….which a Rani or Kareena lack….and they need a good director (Rani was good in Saathiya also…..) to point them out…but that is not a sign of a dedicated actor…..

Disaster Friday – Fryday Tummbad Helicopter Eela Etc

There were multiple releases this week and it has turned out to be a disaster with all the films be it Fryday, Helicpter Eela, Jalebi and Tummbad failing to register at the box office. Helicopter Eela was the best of the lot but the collection was just 75 lakhs nett. The first day collections of the films were as follows.
FryDay – 25,00,000 apprx
Helicopter Eela – 75,00,000 apprx
Jalebi – 35,00,000 apprx
Tummbad – 50,00,000 apprx
The combined total of all these four films is under 2 crore nett at 1.85 crore nett. They managed to take up around 2500 screens between them so with just 1.85 crore nett coming it is a paltry return. Even if we add the other two Hindi films Maal Road Dilli and Play This then it still does not reach 2 crore nett as these films had practically zero collections.
Tummbad has the media support as expected so when collections are this low it should be able to show the best growth out of the lot but eventually there will not be many people out there to watch this type of film.
There were a couple of Hollywood releases with A Star Is Born and First Man and these have not done much better with First Man coming out on top. The collections for First Man will be around 40 lakhs while A Star Is Born will be around 20 lakhs nett.
All in all the audience has kept well away from the releases that have come out this week.
Boohoo! Just a lull before the storm… people are saving up for Badhai Ho and Diwali. Not every week European cinema can be expected to kick BOI and Indian box office ass! We need sleep sometimes!
Andhadhun Is A HIT – Venom Is Average

Andhadhun has emerged a HIT film as it collected around the 3 crore nett mark on its second Friday. The collections are better than the first day and the seventh day, The film jumped around 20% from yesterday. and has taken its nine day total to around 29 crore nett.
The film was helped out by the poor new releases which meant Andhadhun had little competition and whatever competition there was actually came from the holdover Venom rather than any new film. Venom is an AVERAGE fare as it collected 1 crore nett apprx on its second Friday and it should cros the 30 crore nett mark in its lifetime run.
Andhadhun is set for a strong run and is sure to run till Diwali. The film is being liked by the metro audience and these films easily have the potential to get 50 lakh people into the theatres even without a cast. Some like Neerja get to 70 lakh plus but that was with the help of tax exemptions. Andhadhun saw only 22-23 lakh footfalls in week one so there is huge scope in the next few weeks to more than double up which should see the film go over 60 crore nett at least
Salman Khan’s nepotism hits rock-bottom with LoveYatri

Salman Khan’s forceful recommendation of his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma’s debut film LoveYatri did not stop the film from sinking at the box office, at a shockingly rapid speed. By the time the first weekend was over, so was Sharma’s Salman-driven dreams of stardom. Salman, known to back his protégés to the hilt, was apparently unsure of Aayush Sharma’s screen potential from the outset.
A close friend of the Khan reveals, “Salman wasn’t keen on launching his brother-in-law. But what to do? Damaad ki baat thi (it had to do with the son-in-law). Everyone knows Salman won’t deny his baby-sister Arpita anything, even if it means launching her husband as an actor.”
Apparently, once Salman plunged into the process of putting Aayush on screen there was no looking back. “He tried to get an A-lister heroine. But all of them excused themselves pleading lack of time. Only Katrina Kaif would have said yes. But since she’s so closely associated with Salman it would have looked odd to see her romancing with Salman’s brother-in-law. They had no choice but to sign a newcomer opposite Aayush. All the established director-friends of Salman also begged off. A new director had to be sent.
Says Salman’s pal, “Now that the launch-pad has fizzled out, this is the end of Salman’s commitment to launch his brother-in-law.” The one breathing a sigh of relief must be Karan Johar who backed out of co-producing Aayush Sharma’s launch film, much to the wrath of Salman Khan.
But then, Bhai doesn’t have to be indulged every time.
Sajid’s career is almost over. Housefull 4 was his chance to bounce back. Unfortunately he will not get the credit even though the movie is 70% complete under him.

Saw the movie today..enjoyed it immensely…It is such a movie that you will enjoy it while watching and completely forget..
Tabu aced the role…It is far away from “European” cinema..it is very well rooted..Raghavan shows why he is a top director. He has complete command..and he loves old era movies..

According to this yes. Only after 2nd Wednesday did it fall below. But I guess this is at slightly higher level, but yes Queen looks to have done this. I don’t know about Vivah either.
Andhadhun is obviously trending fantastically well. However the idea that even big blockbusters never did this sort of thing is a bit silly. It’s not possible for even the strongest trending blockbuster to do this. For obvious reasons.
True I hope they are speaking from the perspective of smaller films. Expecting a TZH or PK to do this is ludicrous. Of course Bahubali 2 was pretty crazy for a long period.
Excellent decision from makers to release #BadhaiHo and #NamasteEngland a day early to maximise holiday benefit next week. It would be interesting clash as #BadhaiHo is looking like good fun family film while #NamasteEngland would be looking to encash goodwill of #NamasteLondon.

Anyone watching Jijaji chat par hain? It is better than Bhabhiji ghar par hain IMO. The lead is very pretty and very naughty. Her parents are really made for each other. A bit OTT and loud but enjoyable for me. The tv series takes place in chandni chowk. Both are on SAB.
Chatanki tries to imitate bigb in a hilarious way. He sports the same hairstyle. And there is this massagewala barber chote. A feminine police inspector and his witty subordinate.
Even the just ended Sajan par jhoot mat bolo phir se was good.
Top Opening Weekends China: Hichki 8th – Dangal 3rd

Hichki has had an ordinary weekend in China though its done well to get to over $4 million after the start it had. The trend is decent with $750k coming on Friday but Saturday and Sunday doing in the range of $1.75 million. The Chinese market normally falls on Sunday but this was the same as Saturday which gives hope for good holds over the weekdays. It is the eighth highest opening weekend for a Hindi film.
The problem is that Dangal, Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Hindi Medium scored very well back to back and expectations went up but since then the numbers have not really come. It will be down to Thugs Of Hindustan to get the big numbers which has Aamir Khan who is the only Indian actor with a draw in China. There was an attempt to release this film simultaneously with India but the Chinese distributors call the shots and it was not able to happen. It could see a release in late November though that is not certain and depends on the local distributors.
As for Hichki it will be about Monday and the target is probably to try and push over that $10 million mark. Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium and Dangal remain the top three openers and all topped the $10 million mark for the weekend with the first named going over $20 million. The top ten opening weekends in China of Indian films are as follows. The number of shows over the weekend are in brackets.

But, in this case, the only difference is that not because of holiday and not because of it’s a hugely invested and financially heavy film so it needs a certain window, just leave it apart. In its flavor and in its mood, I knew it’s a Christmas film. It’s a happy film; it required a certain atmosphere for my audience also. In 2016 I said this, there are several holidays but it’s about the mood. This film is for Christmas.”
Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, a fan asked a question to Aanand L Rai about Rs 350 crore expectations from Zero. But, the question also stated whether he is worried that Simmba might affect Zero at the box office. To this, Aanand L Rai responded, “If I have made a good film, then Rs 350 crore is the expectation. And again, numbers are very important. Right now, I am in a zone where I think that I have a very good film. I only have one word to say that I had fun making this film and you should have fun while watching it. And if the fun matches the box office numbers that the audience is expecting then it has matched.”
If SRK has stayed away from decision making regarding story…then this may have a chance…but going by the teaser song with Sallu..this film already feels fake and ‘gimmicky’. For SRK’s sake, I hope this film does well, he really needs a massive hit.
Srk is a filmstar without any knowledge abt films or film-making. Shit happens. And wont be surprised if his fans are also equally clueless about their professions. Otherwise its difficult to be a fan of such moron.

Tried to watch Sanju. What a fake film! Everyone looked lifeless.
Hirani is just buying success on his initial successes.
Ranbir looked and talked like Ranbir. At the most a fake Sanju.
Our magnificent real Sanju is reduced to a caricature along with his original parents. Manisha, Sonam were unbearable and so was Paresh Rawal. And that overrated Vicky Kaushal.
If it was not a biopic the film would have looked somewhat credible.
It is good that I have decided not to watch any film on big screen and waste my energy. My last outing was Padmaavat and then perhaps Secret Superstar. I dont remember the chronology.

I think in the neighbouring states, they have started burning the crops or whatever the residue is called. And that affects Delhi too which is dealing with innumerable vehicles and generators. We were in Janakpuri and Vasantkunj some years back and that time the situation was not that bad. The narrow lanes with vehicles parked on either side making the lanes narrower. Generators whirring as there was always a powercut.

Saw Tumbbad. Absolutely stunning film. One of the most original films to come out of India in a long time. It’s visually amazing and quite scary too. Not in a pure horror sense, but more like those old folklore tales from villages. If you get a chance, watch it on the big screen, it will be an experience to remember.

Actor Sohum Shah is currently riding high on success and is getting rave reviews for his critically acclaimed film ‘Tumbbad’.

Badhaai Ho Has Good Opening – Namaste England Poor

Badhaai Ho has taken a good start of around 30-35% while Namaste London is poor at around 10-15%. The opening of Badhaai Ho is better than the other small medium films Sonu Ki Tito Ki Sweety, Raazi and Stree. It has opened better than Dhadak in the bigger centres but collections in the Jaipur’s and Indore’s are less. This is also the case when compared with Stree but it is a minimal difference there.
The added boost to Badhaai Ho compared to the other films is that its a holiday in many parts of the country. In Delhi Punjab it is not a holiday but the film has opened well there anyway due to the very authentic feel of middle class Delhi which shone in the trailer.
Many makers try to make this type of film due to the high concentrate of big multiplexes in the North belt but some get the aunthenticty and language correct while others are not quite there and its the former with Badhaai Ho. The holiday n delhi and Punjab will be tomorrow and the collections are sure to jump in these pasrts from a good start.
Namaste England was a downer from the theatrical trailer which was very 90’s cinema. The film had some decent music but the damage had been done with the trailer. The opening is very low and on top its a holiday in 65% of the market which makes recovery a huge task for the film. The initial shows show double the response for Badhaai Ho and this may get wider as there are far more screenings at multiplexes for Badhaai Ho later on in the day. The opening show admits for both films are as follows
I must confess that I liked the movie when it released..I saw couple of times within short span. But I just cannot stand the movie now. It is so fake at every level.
I watched it twice too week on week. I more than liked it but by the time K3G came I was so over KKHH and ready for K3G! The only SRK film I saw twice in cinema.
And it’s weird: a landmark year (50 years since Awara) is one thing, but to say it’s the 37th anniversary of a particular film is simply to say time has passed! Nothing more!
It would’ve probably carried more weight if these sorts of events weren’t being planned by the makers themselves. they’re trying very hard to portray it as an all-time classic, which it isn’t.
They have cost associated with function..You probably can pay someone to organize it for you..I think most right way would be some movie body celebrating it. But then it could be manipulated like Filmfare awards.
Unfortunately no. It’s helicopter eela! From tomorrow namaste England and badhaai ho. Much more disappointed I couldn’t see Tumbbad but that’s not even playing in the larger area. I used to drive much longer distances for some of these movies once but don’t quite have as much of a will to do it anymore . This is how I missed the current Ratnam as well. The previous two released at my end .

I think the producer will takeover direction from sajid. See the irony. When tanushree questioned they did not care and went about filming and when that thing hit the director directly they had to cancel the shooting. This is called poetic justice.

Seems that Tanushree Dutta has filed a case against Nana Patekar and Ganesh Acharya. TOH could very much be the latter’s last big directorial outing in the near future if so.
Are YRF going to include Acharya in the promotions campaign in the next couple of weeks? Let’s wait and see.

Ha. There is no way the audience stays away because of these allegations (not that anyone has made them with respect to the relevant actors yet; let’s not forget!). That just isn’t where the society is — we regularly elect people credibly accused of rape, murder, and pogroms. The only thing that might hurt someone’s election chances is serious accusations of financial corruption. Hard not to roll one’s eyes at that point.

She is a very good actress. I liked her with Govinda also. Even in Chalte Chalte and Saathiya she was good.
In hichki, the role itself was somewhat a big putoff. Any other actress also would have been irritating in that role. I dont have anything against people with that problem But when it is portrayed onscreen it looks odd. Just like the way when dwarfs are used in films or very fat persons are used. Another role Rani could have avoided was that Aiyya role. It was embarrassing to watch do that role.
Aamir should stop recommending these films. He will lose credibility. But he has to oblige friends. A sticky situation.

Hitchki is decent but a very irritating watch. But that’s unfortunate as the condition she has would probably annoy most people who are around a person with that kind of syndrome. I get hiccups a lot because ‘apparently’ I haven’t learnt how to drink properly and it annoys everyone around me. Some tell me someone is remembering me, must be a gujju superstition of sorts. But anyway the story is ok but the syndrome makes it a tough watch. Rani is ok, does the best she can.
The recent releases in China have been awful. Hopefully it has no bearing on TOH.

Hitchki has picked up well today with more than 100% growth.It wld cross Sultan.Also rating is good enough ie. 9.3 for a decent trending.But all these content movies r lacking the reach which an Aamir movie wld have in China plus it’s an overdose of these social movies.

Aamir had to recommend Hitchki for two reasons — YRF, his current producer; and Rani who is an old friend, his 4.00 am phone to friend,by her own admission on a KJo show. Aamir also recommended Hitchki after watching it with TOH team at Jaipur/Jodhpur earlier this year.
Sigh, the things one needs todo to keep all happy. Now his current action against continuing with Mugal film is in part due to biwi Kiran’s say so…perhaps.

absolutely, subtlety and sinking-one’s teeth-in-the-character – rani shd learn from Tabu or Aamir – these ppl become the character and when i saw trailer of Hitchki – Rani was full-on make-up with that sachharine/diabetic smile and facial expression (sic.) – i said what on earth! glorifying hitchki and making it look like an underdog film a-la- TZP……this is where u can see aamir/tabu’s committment to the characterization….which a Rani or Kareena lack….and they need a good director (Rani was good in Saathiya also…..) to point them out…but that is not a sign of a dedicated actor…..

Disaster Friday – Fryday Tummbad Helicopter Eela Etc

There were multiple releases this week and it has turned out to be a disaster with all the films be it Fryday, Helicpter Eela, Jalebi and Tummbad failing to register at the box office. Helicopter Eela was the best of the lot but the collection was just 75 lakhs nett. The first day collections of the films were as follows.
FryDay – 25,00,000 apprx
Helicopter Eela – 75,00,000 apprx
Jalebi – 35,00,000 apprx
Tummbad – 50,00,000 apprx
The combined total of all these four films is under 2 crore nett at 1.85 crore nett. They managed to take up around 2500 screens between them so with just 1.85 crore nett coming it is a paltry return. Even if we add the other two Hindi films Maal Road Dilli and Play This then it still does not reach 2 crore nett as these films had practically zero collections.
Tummbad has the media support as expected so when collections are this low it should be able to show the best growth out of the lot but eventually there will not be many people out there to watch this type of film.
There were a couple of Hollywood releases with A Star Is Born and First Man and these have not done much better with First Man coming out on top. The collections for First Man will be around 40 lakhs while A Star Is Born will be around 20 lakhs nett.
All in all the audience has kept well away from the releases that have come out this week.

Andhadhun Is A HIT – Venom Is Average

Andhadhun has emerged a HIT film as it collected around the 3 crore nett mark on its second Friday. The collections are better than the first day and the seventh day, The film jumped around 20% from yesterday. and has taken its nine day total to around 29 crore nett.
The film was helped out by the poor new releases which meant Andhadhun had little competition and whatever competition there was actually came from the holdover Venom rather than any new film. Venom is an AVERAGE fare as it collected 1 crore nett apprx on its second Friday and it should cros the 30 crore nett mark in its lifetime run.
Andhadhun is set for a strong run and is sure to run till Diwali. The film is being liked by the metro audience and these films easily have the potential to get 50 lakh people into the theatres even without a cast. Some like Neerja get to 70 lakh plus but that was with the help of tax exemptions. Andhadhun saw only 22-23 lakh footfalls in week one so there is huge scope in the next few weeks to more than double up which should see the film go over 60 crore nett at least

Salman Khan’s forceful recommendation of his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma’s debut film LoveYatri did not stop the film from sinking at the box office, at a shockingly rapid speed. Salman, known to back his protégés to the hilt, was apparently unsure of Aayush Sharma’s screen potential from the outset.
A close friend of the Khan reveals, “Salman wasn’t keen on launching his brother-in-law. But what to do? Damaad ki baat thi (it had to do with the son-in-law). Everyone knows Salman won’t deny his baby-sister Arpita anything, even if it means launching her husband as an actor.”
Apparently, once Salman plunged into the process of putting Aayush on screen there was no looking back. “He tried to get an A-lister heroine. But all of them excused themselves pleading lack of time. Only Katrina Kaif would have said yes. But since she’s so closely associated with Salman it would have looked odd to see her romancing with Salman’s brother-in-law. They had no choice but to sign a newcomer opposite Aayush. All the established director-friends of Salman also begged off. A new director had to be sent.
Says Salman’s pal, “Now that the launch-pad has fizzled out, this is the end of Salman’s commitment to launch his brother-in-law.” The one breathing a sigh of relief must be Karan Johar who backed out of co-producing Aayush Sharma’s launch film, much to the wrath of Salman Khan.
But then, Bhai doesn’t have to be indulged every time.

Saw the movie today..enjoyed it immensely…It is such a movie that you will enjoy it while watching and completely forget..
Tabu aced the role…It is far away from “European” cinema..it is very well rooted..Raghavan shows why he is a top director. He has complete command..and he loves old era movies..
ps – Movie first 30 minutes are slow but once things start rolling, it is fast paced.

Andhadhun is obviously trending fantastically well. However the idea that even big blockbusters never did this sort of thing is a bit silly. It’s not possible for even the strongest trending blockbuster to do this. For obvious reasons.

Anyone watching Jijaji chat par hain? It is better than Bhabhiji ghar par hain IMO. The lead is very pretty and very naughty. Her parents are really made for each other. A bit OTT and loud but enjoyable for me. The tv series takes place in chandni chowk. Both are on SAB.
Chatanki tries to imitate bigb in a hilarious way. He sports the same hairstyle. And there is this massagewala barber chote. A feminine police inspector and his witty subordinate.
Even the just ended Sajan par jhoot mat bolo phir se was good.

Top Opening Weekends China: Hichki 8th – Dangal 3rd

Hichki has had an ordinary weekend in China though its done well to get to over $4 million after the start it had. The trend is decent with $750k coming on Friday but Saturday and Sunday doing in the range of $1.75 million. The Chinese market normally falls on Sunday but this was the same as Saturday which gives hope for good holds over the weekdays. It is the eighth highest opening weekend for a Hindi film.
The problem is that Dangal, Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Hindi Medium scored very well back to back and expectations went up but since then the numbers have not really come. It will be down to Thugs Of Hindustan to get the big numbers which has Aamir Khan who is the only Indian actor with a draw in China. There was an attempt to release this film simultaneously with India but the Chinese distributors call the shots and it was not able to happen. It could see a release in late November though that is not certain and depends on the local distributors.
As for Hichki it will be about Monday and the target is probably to try and push over that $10 million mark. Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium and Dangal remain the top three openers and all topped the $10 million mark for the weekend with the first named going over $20 million. The top ten opening weekends in China of Indian films are as follows. The number of shows over the weekend are in brackets.

Even with one proper week at the box office, Aanand L Rai feels a film will work no matter what happens. “I personally feel that films like Stree, Baahubali or in my case Tanu Weds Manu could release at any time, it will do its business. But, in this case, the only difference is that not because of holiday and not because of it’s a hugely invested and financially heavy film so it needs a certain window, just leave it apart. In its flavor and in its mood, I knew it’s a Christmas film. It’s a happy film; it required a certain atmosphere for my audience also. In 2016 I said this, there are several holidays but it’s about the mood. This film is for Christmas.”
Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, a fan asked a question to Aanand L Rai about Rs 350 crore expectations from Zero. But, the question also stated whether he is worried that Simmba might affect Zero at the box office. To this, Aanand L Rai responded, “If I have made a good film, then Rs 350 crore is the expectation. And again, numbers are very important. Right now, I am in a zone where I think that I have a very good film. I only have one word to say that I had fun making this film and you should have fun while watching it. And if the fun matches the box office numbers that the audience is expecting then it has matched.”

Tried to watch Sanju. What a fake film! Everyone looked lifeless.
Hirani is just buying success on his initial successes.
Ranbir looked and talked like Ranbir. At the most a fake Sanju.
Our magnificent real Sanju is reduced to a caricature along with his original parents. Manisha, Sonam were unbearable and so was Paresh Rawal. And that overrated Vicky Kaushal.
If it was not a biopic the film would have looked somewhat credible.

I think in the neighbouring states, they have started burning the crops or whatever the residue is called. And that affects Delhi too which is dealing with innumerable vehicles and generators. We were in Janakpuri and Vasantkunj some years back and that time the situation was not that bad. The narrow lanes with vehicles parked on either side making the lanes narrower. Generators whirring as there was always a powercut.

Saw Tumbbad. Absolutely stunning film. One of the most original films to come out of India in a long time. It’s visually amazing and quite scary too. Not in a pure horror sense, but more like those old folklore tales from villages. If you get a chance, watch it on the big screen, it will be an experience to remember.

That’s the really sad part about it. The distribution strategy has been weird and it has been seriously under-marketed.
Don’t get BOI’s stance on it either because it is such an Indian film in every which way.
Interestingly, all the prints here are carrying English subtitles for it, which were very useful as well.

Badhaai Ho has taken a good start of around 30-35% while Namaste London is poor at around 10-15%. The opening of Badhaai Ho is better than the other small medium films Sonu Ki Tito Ki Sweety, Raazi and Stree. It has opened better than Dhadak in the bigger centres but collections in the Jaipur’s and Indore’s are less. This is also the case when compared with Stree but it is a minimal difference there.
The added boost to Badhaai Ho compared to the other films is that its a holiday in many parts of the country. In Delhi Punjab it is not a holiday but the film has opened well there anyway due to the very authentic feel of middle class Delhi which shone in the trailer.
Many makers try to make this type of film due to the high concentrate of big multiplexes in the North belt but some get the aunthenticty and language correct while others are not quite there and its the former with Badhaai Ho. The holiday n delhi and Punjab will be tomorrow and the collections are sure to jump in these pasrts from a good start.
Namaste England was a downer from the theatrical trailer which was very 90’s cinema. The film had some decent music but the damage had been done with the trailer. The opening is very low and on top its a holiday in 65% of the market which makes recovery a huge task for the film. The initial shows show double the response for Badhaai Ho and this may get wider as there are far more screenings at multiplexes for Badhaai Ho later on in the day. The opening show admits for both films are as follows

I watched it twice too week on week. I more than liked it but by the time K3G came I was so over KKHH and ready for K3G! The only SRK film I saw twice in cinema.

Johar is a master at it. The fake event (20 years of KKHH) masquerading for something authentic (the genuine anniversary of a milestone film).

And it’s weird: a landmark year (50 years since Awara) is one thing, but to say it’s the 37th anniversary of a particular film is simply to say time has passed! Nothing more!

It would’ve probably carried more weight if these sorts of events weren’t being planned by the makers themselves. they’re trying very hard to portray it as an all-time classic, which it isn’t.

They have cost associated with function..You probably can pay someone to organize it for you..I think most right way would be some movie body celebrating it. But then it could be manipulated like Filmfare awards.

Unfortunately no. It’s helicopter eela! From tomorrow namaste England and badhaai ho. Much more disappointed I couldn’t see Tumbbad but that’s not even playing in the larger area. I used to drive much longer distances for some of these movies once but don’t quite have as much of a will to do it anymore . This is how I missed the current Ratnam as well. The previous two released at my end .
