if this works well, Ayushmann will have his fourth consecutive success after Bareiley ki Barfi, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Andhadhun. He’s having a ball!

Vijay’s character in ‘Sarkar’ is based on Sundar Pichai, AR Murugadoss reveals
Vijay also goes by the same name in the film. The actor’s styling is supposedly similar to the Google CEO. Speaking to Vikatan, Murugadoss said that the film is about a man from the corporate world entering politics. He also added that the team had done a lot of research on Sundar Pichai’s life. Asked if he’d met with Sundar Pichai, Murugadoss said that they were planning to do so after the film released. https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/vijays-character-sarkar-based-sundar-pichai-ar-murugadoss-reveals-90179
This is a Diwali blockbuster and the biggest release.
The movie was in some controversy and is already amongst the top2 awaited movie in India along with 2point0.
And Sarkar is not based on Sundar Pichai. Please leave Sundar at peace.

With my savings i cannot even afford to have a meal.
Watching Namaste England was ruled out as Vipul who made fabulous movies like Aankhein and Namaste London, lost his ideas. See if Akshay rejects a movie like Namaste England, Moghul etc, rest assured it will be a turkey.
Aamir got publicity with getting associated…but he will not do it for sure. He just wanted some coverage which he got.
Badhaai Ho is heading for huge success as North India records crazy collections on day two in places. The film is already a certain HIT and it remains to be seen how big of a HIT the film becomes. The Dusshera holiday is on Friday in the North and Delhi city and East Punjab are recording huge numbers for Badhaai Ho. The film had opened best in these two markets if we dont account for the holiday in other circuits and day two these two markets have gone to another level.
The film has a shot at reaching double digit numbers on Friday and collect 10 crore nett. It will depend on where the collections land in Mumbai and South as some places in these areas are flat or even lower while others have grown from the first day but the growth in places like Delhi /UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan is just huge.
The 9 crore nett mark is there and will be be crossed for sure and even that is a big number as it is coming of a partial holiday and more places were on holiday on the first day than the second day.
This was looking bonafine Blockbuster from the day its trailer came.
The concept is extraordinary.
With very good reviews on Thursday, the movie will fly now.
Even I want to know when was it happened last time that a hero has 2 hit films running simultaneously. Ya it is not in that high level still it is a great feat considering we have Ranbeer’s Bombay velvet and Saif, Shahid and Kangana’s Rangoon which had folded under 30 cr.
Except for Aamir Khan off late (he used to enjoy it earlier when young and energetic), usually other heroes had several back to back hits running. But yes, it’s not often these things happen for them.
I am looking forward to watch Badhaai Ho in Theatre.
After the success of ‘Manmarziyaan’, Abhishek Bachchan has started work on his next film with Anurag Basu, which is rumoured to be the much talked about ‘Life In A Metro’ sequel.
Many have been speculating about the film’s cast for a number of months. While Basu is keeping mum about the film, it is rumoured that Bachchan has already been signed up for it. PinkVilla had earlier reported that Bachchan was approached for the project and the narration was given by Basu to the actor, which he liked.
It is not clear if Bachchan is working on ‘Life In A Metro’ or another one of Basu’s upcoming releases.

Badhaai Ho Has Huge Friday – Namaste England Poor
Saturday 20 October 2018 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badhaai Ho had excellent collections on day two as it collected 11.50-11,75 crore nett. North India went crazy as East Punjab grossed around 1.75 crore nett and Delhi / UP went to 4 crore nett. These circuits are bigger than what many of the films this year collected on any day. The total collections of the film is almost 19 crore nett.
Hichki Sustains Well In China
Saturday 20 October 2018 11.15 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Hichki has done well in China with collections on day eight holding up well. The collections on day eight were in the same range as day one. The film has clocked up $8 million so far in China and it will the second Saturday that will tell where this film will go.
If the film can repeat the growth of last Saturday then it has a shot at crossing $15 million but that sort of growth may be too difficult to get on the second Saturday. The film will be the highest grossing Indian film in China after Dangal, Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hindi Medium and PK. Only these five films have gone over $15 million and it remains to be seen if Hichki can do same.

What is good, after so many years Aamir is in a crowd pleasing role where he looks like he is having a lot of fun without the baggage of delivering some kind of social message…
Watched Badhai Ho, what a laugh riot! Where do these excellent dialog and script writers dissapear when tasked with making movies for so called superstars? Ayushman has a knack for picking these gems of scripts, which if continues might definitely catapult him to bigger successes in future.
Btw, saw it on a big screen multiplex, on one of their biggest screens, almost like IMAX. And they showed the TOH trailor, gotta say that the effect is totally different. Defn a must watch in cinema movie come November.
CONFIRMED: Hrithik Roshan SIGNS Sajid Nadiadwala’s next, Rohit Dhawan to direct
ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkOct 20, 2018 – 1:13 pm IST
Hrithik Roshan is all set to appear in Sajid Nadiadwala‘s next which will be directed by Rohit Dhawan. We told you FIRST that Sajid and Hrithik were in talks since a long time and he was almost finalised for the film. A person close to the project also said that Hrithik needed a breather and wanted to work on something light and entertaining after doing intense roles in recent past. Looks like Rohit and Hrithik will come up with something very massy, masala and commercial this time around. His last release was Kaabil.
I wonder if the disastrous failure of Namaste England will affect the release plans of Sandeep Aur Pinky Farrar, which also stars Parineeti and Arjun? I have to say, when I saw Ishqzaade, I thought they had the potential to go on to do interesting films. None of this Golmaal and Namaste England stuff.
I finally saw Crazy Rich Asians and I have to admit I didn’t get what all the critical acclaim was about. It is a standard Cinderella romance set against a billionaire backdrop that is nauseating in its adoration of conspicuous consumption and inherited wealth. I will never again complain about the excessive riches in Dharma/ Yash Raj/ Excel productions because even they aren’t this slavish in their worship of the wealthy. Henry Golding is a very charming and handsome romantic hero and he was pretty much the only redeeming aspect of this movie for me.
I also saw Colette: it is an infinitely superior (and vastly different) story centred around another couple in high society. The film’s visualisation of 19th century high society in Paris is imaginative, glamorous and sensual making it much more fun to watch than the prosaic luxury of 21st century Singaporean property tycoons depicted in Crazy Rich Asians. It helps that the source material is highly compelling and that Kiera Knightley and Dominic West bring the colourful, ambitious, flawed, bohemian, transgressive lead characters to life so persuasively.
Badhaai Ho is looking at another huge day as it maintains collections which had on the previous day which was part holiday for Dusshera. The film should collect in the 11.75 crore nett range again which will take the film to 31.75 crore nett apprx and the Sunday is still to come.
The collections have jumped in Mumbai and Pune where it was not a holiday yesterday and Delhi NCR and East Punjab which recorded outstanding collections yesterday have held superbly considering it was a big holiday yesterday in these parts.
Stree had a 31.50 crore nett three day weekend while Raazi was 32.75 crore nett and if we factor in there is no Madhya Pradesh collections then this film is better than both over the first three days. It has lost 1.50 crore nett business over three days due to no release in Madhya Pradesh. This is based on the three day numbers of Rajasthan and collections in CP Berar which is Chhatisgarh and parts of Maharashtra and MP.
The film should go up on Sunday again as North can go back up to the Friday levels and there is good scope for growth in Mumbai and East India. But as it is day four it will lesser than the likes of Raazi and Stree as they had normal three day weekends.
Neena Gupta is such an wonderful actress and even age could not stop her when she gets the right role. Her television outing Saans was another milestone in her life.
I am certain Padman would be a blockbuster in China. There is clear market for such genres.
The movie had extraordinary response in India socially and superb at box office. Twinkly should get Aamir on board for Padman. Aamir should definitely help if asked. No harm here.
ayushmann has certainly made a name for himself and he is known among all the stalwarts of the industry now. I’m sure he will now be the go-to guy for directors and writers with meaty scripts who wouldn’t want to pursue the bigger stars for budget constrains and/or for approaching the film the way they want without interference.
Badhaai Ho and Namastey England Day Three Business
Sunday 21 October 2018 11.15 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badhaai Ho has grossed a huge 31.25 crore nett apprx in three days with a shot at hitting 45 crore nett over the weekend. The day three collections will be around 12.25 crore nett. The film is on a miracle run in the North with Delhi / UP and East Punjab hardly dropping on Saturday despite coming of a holiday. These two markets are going to have a huge run till Thugs Of Hindustan its rare for a film of this size to be this high.
The other big area Mumbai is also doing well though not a patch on Delhi / UP as Gujarat gives just decent collections. Overall this film will do more business in Delhi / UP than Mumbai and that is very rare for a big HIT film.
The collections of Badhaai Ho till date are as follows.
Thursday – 7,25,00,000 apprx
Friday – 11,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 12,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 31,25,00,000 apprx
Namaste England dropped on its third day and is going to wrap with ridiculously low figures. The first film in this series Namstey London with Akshay Kumar grossed around 9 crore nett in its first weekend and that was in 2007 and here in 2018 that 9 crore nett could be the lifetime of this film.
The collections of Namaste England till date are as follows.
#Hichki will cross $ 10 mn today [second Sun] in #China… Second Sat biz [$ 1.72 mn] is almost at par with first Sat biz [$ 1.74 mn], which is REMARKABLE… Expected to cross ₹ 100 cr mark in #China… [Week 2] Fri $ 730,000 Sat $ 1.72 mn Total: $ 9.80 mn [₹ 71.88 cr]
Searching for old Lalila Majnu. It was released in 1953 staaring Nutan and Shammi Kapoor. Music by Sardar Malik and Ghulam Mohammed. Sardar Malik produced music for many films and Saranga, Maharani Padmini were among them. Maharani Padmini was released without any problems in 1964. The film starred Jairaj as the brave Rajput rana Bhim Singh (not Ratan Singh), Anita Guha as Padmini, and Sajjan as Alauddin Khilji. Apart from these, the cast included the actress Shyama, who died recently, as the mallika (queen) of Khilji, and Jagdish Bhalla as the Iago-esque Malik Kafur.
Jairaj was a child artiste in 1953 Laila Majnu.
The interesting thing here is that even if you combine Hindi and Urdu (which is fair for spoken purposes) you still have Telugu ahead. Not that these numbers surprise me too much. The same for Bengali (massive Bangladeshi influx).
Aamir Khan Back in Gulshan Kumar Biopic
Aamir Khan is now back to not just co-producing Mogul with Bhushan Kumar, he may also play the lead role if all goes as planned.
AK is also a serial abuser though he may see himself as great romantic person. What I see is , history of ongoing abuse of power and manipulation, what with his manifold affairs till date (latest conquest in ToH) and out of wedlock baby even! Now LS will take panga with me. But they all are guilty. There may be consensual relationships with a shakti kapoor like directness but when you are all mighty and powerful, the lines of propriety are blurred. To me it still is abuse of power, where it is mostly lose-lose situation for the wormen in long run!
Well, aamir said that he has written or still writing a very honest autobiography and it will be with his lawyers. It will be published after he is no more. If we outlive him, we can read it and judge him and his actions. It will not be whitewashing but about his inner self. He hinted something like that in SS about he being at fault in his divorces. As far as I see, no male bollywood star is completely clean. And they wont accept it either. Serial abuser is not the right word until any of them officially complain and call for action. I will rather say indiscretions. Compared, females are much better as they are not males! Some of them have multiple affairs but they are due to emotions.
Badhaai Ho Excellent Weekend – Namaste England Extremely Dull
Monday 22 October 2018 10.45 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badhaai Ho has had an excellent extended weekend of 44.50 crore nett with Delhi NCR and East Punjab showing extraordinary collections. There was limited growth on Sunday but that was because it was the fourth day and the business is less in the Sunday growth markets like Gujarat, Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI.
The extended weekend business is enough to ensure the film is a HIT and the weekdays will tell how big of a HIT the film can become. The film is going to do huge business in Delhi NCR and East Punjab but a lot depends on what level the appreciation is in other markets as these will have to do well also for a really big number.
The collections of Badhaai Ho till date are as follows.
Thursday – 7,25,00,000 apprx
Friday – 11,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 12,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday – 13,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 44,50,00,000 apprx
Namaste England grossed a little over 6 crore nett over its extended weekend and the weekend number is what it should have done on day one and that is on a worst case scenario. The collections of the film are over 3 crore nett less than Namaste London released 11 years ago.
The collections of Namaste England till date are as follows.
While Sajid Nadiadwala who co-produces Housefull 4 and Super 30 refrained from comment, a source close to him discounted all possibilities of scrapping Super 30, the film that the disgraced Vikas Bahl directs and Housefull 4 which stars Nana Patekar.
Andhadhun collected a good 7 crore nett in its third weekend to take its total to 56.50 crore nett in seventeen days. The holds are not as strong as week two due to the new releases but that was expected. Still there is nothing major in the way now till Thugs Of Hindustan and the film should go towards the 70 crore nett mark.
#BadhaaiHo emerges a BIG FAVOURITE at the ticket windows… Has SENSATIONAL extended weekend… Thu 7.29 cr, Fri 11.67 cr, Sat 12.60 cr, Sun 13.50 cr. Total: ₹ 45.06 cr. India biz… Didn’t release in Madhya Pradesh due to cinema strike. Otherwise, the total would be higher.
Like its performance in Week 1, #Hichki witnessed an upturn in biz on second Sat and Sun in #China… Having crossed $ 10 mn, it should comfortably sail past $ 15 mn if it maintains the pace… [Week 2] Fri $ 740,000 Sat $ 1.73 mn Sun $ 1.56 mn Total: $ 11.39 mn [₹ 83.50 cr]
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s wedding announcement triggers jokes and memes
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh announced their wedding date via Twitter and left netizens in a frenzy. While many congratulated the couple, others wondered what the Band Baaja Baaraat actor would wear on his wedding.
#SuiDhaaga has almost exhausted its run… Biz at a glance… Week 1: ₹ 62.50 cr Week 2: ₹ 13.30 cr Week 3: ₹ 2.50 cr Weekend 4: ₹ 40 lakhs / 100 screens Total: ₹ 78.70 cr India biz. Note: Cinemas on strike in Madhya Pradesh. Otherwise, the biz would have crossed ₹ 80 cr.
Saw Raazi..Good watch..heart pounding screenplay..Only nitpick I have is why were all deliberations happening at home of Army officers (there are other convenient device plot but narrative was fast, so you ignore shortcomings).
Raazi could have been a great movie. It had a great scope in the hands of Niraj Pandey. With Meghana, she made is so pro-‘enemy’ and bent backward on showing them in good light, political correctedness, the lady spy to be a cry baby, wimpy, that she, the spy, prolly is rolling in her grave with shock. M.G. took the thrill out of the thriller and made it into a totally boring movie.
With Niraj Pandey it would only have been Spy technicality specific movie, with Meghna Gulzar it had the thriller elements alright (Talvar) and emotional effects as well. Thats why it did well and crossed the 100 cr mark.
who goes to see spy thriller for “emotions”. It is like eating khichdi and pizza together. Doesn’t gel. Either make a indian-pakistan romance movie or make a spy thriller for god’s sake. Don’t mix two genres and give us crap. i don’t care if it make 100 crore. That is parameter for nothing in my books!
Top Overseas Opening 2018 – Badhaai Ho 7th
Monday 22 October 2018 16.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badhaai Ho has also put up excellent numbers in overseas as it crossed $2 million to become the 7th highest opener of the year in Overseas. It has easily opened better than all the other sleeper HIT films of the year in Overseas. The Overseas release was mainly Friday unlike India though Gulf had the normal Thursday release. The film has grossed around $825k in US / Canada and around $600k in Gulf which have contributed hugely. The four main markets of US, UK, Gulf and Austrailia have contributed around $1.75-1.80 million.
The worldwide weekend figures of the film are around 56 crore for the three day period with the extended weekend giving a huge 73 crore. Padmaavat is the top opener of the year. Not only is it the the top opner of the year but it is the highest opener in overseas of all time. Thugs of Hindustan and Zero will have chances to beat the figures of Padmaavat.
The top ten openers Overseas this year are as follows.
The promotions of the keenly awaited biggie #Saaho begins tomorrow… #Saaho makers to unveil #ShadesOfSaaho, which will highlight fascinating titbits of this project… Stars Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor. pic.twitter.com/Y3vRfq6Hzw
YRF really never do huge blitz in marketing for their biggest films. I wouldn’t read to much into lack of promotion. If anything the theatrical trailer could have come last week. That gap between trailer and now has not been filled adequately.
TOH trailer is 100 times better than D3 one. The latter was woeful. Here at least I have some hope that this film will be entertaining and fun. Beyond that, I have little hope.
“I’m not suggesting Ayushmann Khurrana is basically an A-rated Akshay Kumar. I’m just saying his films are doing something very necessary, without waving a flag at our face.”
Rangan Saab should get his eyes checked again if he sees a sub-text of Akshay waving a flag in his face in TOILET and PADMAN or even BABY. Sometimes, one needs to cut one’s tendencies to be smarter than necessary just because one has a gift of the gab or the language.
Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. He hangs out with ‘warrier’ type of ‘liberals’, sau sangati ka asar. Even a little bit of patriotism is bad word in India today!
Something truly interesting would be either Kiran Rao’s indie like Dhobi Ghat or going the MB way. These medium scale fads are truly the trappings of ‘another BO hit’ for his own ego and fans.
Hirani may agree do this due to 2 reasons. Firstly, he has good working relations with Aamir. Secondly, he currently has no script to direct at this point. His sequels to LRM and 3I has been in scripting for ages and nothing concrete has come out of those ideas as of now.
Both Aamir and Hirani will be aware that they can make an easy cheesy blockbuster here in v quick time.
Aamir was ok with Subhash Kapoor until metoo happened. So Hirani is one option and they must be considering other options as well in case Hirani does not agree. Aamir himself may direct.
Advait Chandan may be option for Aamir/TSeries. Don’t think RKH would want to do 2 back to back biopics on Bollywood controversial figures. And VVC takes decision for RKH. And he wouldn’t agree to share RKH with another production house
After all that he has achieved in last 30 years and with ToH looking like another blockbuster success, he needs to think of transformative challenges, not incremental steps.
To some extent the box office is imprisoning as well. You can still not succumb to it completely if you’re very successful but once you go beyond that level the box office transforms you. And here the problem is that it’s not just about D3 or a Hirani or something. Even Dangal becomes the biggest grosser. Similarly Aamir can have a rare underperformed literally once in years (Talaash) but he can’t have two in a row, similarly once upon a time he was very successful but now he’s playing the game at a different level altogether. You can’t walk away from this kind of box office. My point then is he should be willing to do the Talaash kind of thing more often, a truly interesting script that is more risky. Because he has the ability to get this sort of film to a big enough total as well just off the initial. Or at the other end a Lagaan kind of moment. Now of course you can’t manufacture this. It’s the sort of deal that happens once in a lifetime. But you can go in for an ambitious project with similar challenges. Again precisely because Aamir has an uncanny script sense or is able to figure out what works with an audience such a project would be far less risky with his involvement. In any case I’d want him to take up these options. In the post-Ghajini phase there have been too many blockbusters. Now I like most of these films, that’s a different matter but a sequence that includes Lagaan, DCH, MP, RDB, TZP is something else altogether. And all of those films were very genuine risks at the time. Mogul doesn’t really excite though I’m sure it will be an enjoyable movie. Nor does Mahabharata. Because it would be impossible to make this subject in an interesting way (specially in the contemporary climate). Given how rich this terrain is it would be unfortunate to just make a BB out of it.
Your concerns about MB are perhaps the main reason for the delay in MB plans. Anyways, I think Mogul is happening whether we like it or not. I would rather have our goofy Hirani making a complete entertainer out of Gulshan’s life than a half-baked semi-serious take on such a controversial figure. Hirani will by that time will be the go-to guy for all influential people to make whitewashing biopics!
Badhaai Ho Holds Strong On Monday
Monday 22 October 2018 23.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badhaai Ho is SUPER HIT film as it held up very well on Monday with collections set to be in the 5.75-6 crore nett range. The first day which was a Thursday had collected 7.25 crore nett so from there it is very minimal drop but Friday was 11.75 crore nett so there is a drop from there. But both of these days were partial holidays and the Friday had that word of mouth factor into where it was appreciatted.
The collection of the film stand at around 51 crore nett in five days and its extended first week should go to 66-67 crore nett. The collections are super strong in North with many centres doing better than the first day. Delhi / UP will easily cross 20 crore nett by the end of the week which is better than the lifetime of Pad Man, Satyameva Jayate, Dhadak and Sui Dhaaga.
It will be Friday that will tell where the film stands in comparison with the other sleeper HITS like Raazi and Stree. It does not have the all round appreciation of Stree but will do better in the high ticket rate multiplexes like Raazi which could keep it in touching distance of those films.
On Saturday, a server at a restaurant in North Carolina was given a $10,000 cash tip by a customer who ordered just two waters. “Thanks for the delicious water,” read the note that was left along with the generous tip. According to Fox News, Alaina Custer, an employee of Sup Dogs in Greenville, was the lucky recipient of the tip.
“I literally didn’t think it was real. I picked it up and it was a giant stack of hundreds, I was shaking and just kept asking, ‘What is this?’ I thought someone was playing a joke on me,” she told The News & Observer.
Turns out, the customer was not just any generous man, but a YouTube personality who goes by the username Mr Beast.
Mr Beast, who has 8.9 million subscribers on YouTube, had two men film Ms Custer’s reaction even as he left the restaurant after leaving the tip. He later returned to the restaurant to join his crew, and Ms Custer says she “hugged them all.”
“I was so blessed to have that money,” she said. “I mean, most of us that work at Sup Dogs are broke college kids and that’s going to help me out so much. We got to all split it up, which will help a lot of people.”
The restaurant shared pictures of Ms Custer with the money on its Facebook page yesterday, where Mr Beast earned a lot of praise and goodwill for his actions.
Subhash Kapoor is not part of Mugal. Whereas Super 30 still features Vikas Bahl as director.
But it is fun to mock Aamir, I guess.
In any case, the whole boycott thing was driven by social media pressure. Accusations do not make for actual convictions.
I would not watch a Roman Polanski film since I am not interested in his cinema. But I have no problem watching a Woody Allen film. Whatever his personal life, his cinema is at another level.
And how many people are going to stop watching all those Hollywood films produced or presented by Harvey Weinstein.
There is so much hypocrisy surrounding this Me Too movement, it is farcical and laughable. And that is the real farce, not this social media hand wringing on stars taking up work they have committed to do.
Where is the guarantee that once you start working on a film, some team member may not quietly misbehave? Will all work on the film be stopped?
How about all those films made by veterans who misbehaved , sexually harassing through fifties, sixties….getting away with it? Do we stop watching those classic films?
Farcical stand by stars, my foot.
Aamir was forced to take a stand, for a couple of reasons. Huffington Post pressurised him, asking if he was still going to be part of film directed by molestation accused Subhash Kapoor.Secondly ( and primarily), Aamir’s wife Kiran is a part of AKP, the co-producer for Mogul. She is answerable to MAMI, the Mumbai film festival panel, that has taken a stand. She has been an integral part of MAMI. Incidentally MA!I has been heavily criticised for not allowing a short film maker to feature her feminist film.
Sorry, i was not referring to Subhash Kapoor.
Bhushan Kumar has been accused of serious charges of sexual assault. I for one thought Aamir took a stand against the bigger fish. But looks like he did not.
Salman Khan Out, Arjun Kapoor In! Is No Entry Mein Entry Finally Happening?
With this angle, we can’t see any continuation from the previous story instead we’ll see new characters this time apart from Anil.

If Bahl is indirectly forgiven, even the case against Anurag Kashyap and Motwane will not stand. So case against Nana Patekar which is very weak will also be dismissed and even Subhash Kapoor case will be diluted somehow. Only Sajid Khan case will stand as at present.
ONE anonymous twitter user made an allegation against Bhushan Kumar. He and his wife have strongly refuted the allegations and complained to the cyber cell. Does not sound like serious allegation.
Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra were one of B-town’s cutest couple. The two dated for a long time but due to various differences, they parted ways.
There were also rumors of Sid’s closeness to his then co-star in ‘A Gentleman’, Jacqueline Fernandez being one of the crucial reason for his break up with Alia.
Recently, Alia attended Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee with Karan’ with Deepika Padukone. They also happened to be the first guests on the show which was aired last evening. Both the divas opened up about their relationships.
During the Rapid-fire round, Alia was asked by Karan, who she thinks, her alleged ex-boyfriend Sidharth Malhotra should date.
To this Alia said that he should date Kiara Advani.
For a long time now, rumors about Sidharth dating Kiara have been floating in the tinsel town after Sid was spotted attending her birthday bash this year. However, both of them denied the news in a recent media interaction.
Alia went on to share that just in case Sid breaks up with Kiara, he should date Jacqueline Fernandez. For those unaware, there were strong speculations that Jacky created a rift in Sid- Alia’s relationship.
Further, when KJo quizzed Alia about Sidharth’s current relationship status, Alia said that she has no idea what he is doing in his life right now.

Aamir Khan launches second script-writing competition
Celebrated filmmaker and screenplay writers Raju Hirani, Juhi Chaturvedi and Anjum Rajabali have invited young scriptwriters to be a part of a ‘Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Script Contest’.
This will be the second edition of the contest announced by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.
“Last year, when we announced the Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Script Contest, it was an attempt to give an opportunity to budding writers. We hope that through this contest, we are able to reach out to all those who want an opportunity to write a film script,” said Khan.
The contest follows a transparent process of accepting only those entries that are registered either with the Screen Writers Association (SWA) or with any other organisation where registration is considered valid.
Rajabali, who is also the jury chairperson, said, “We are currently shortlisting the scripts from the first edition. The winners will be announced before the year-end. I understand the struggle of writers.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity for writers and I am happy to be a part of the second edition of the contest,” said Hirani.
Rohit Khattar, chairman of Cinestaan Digital, said, “With the unwavering support from Aamir, Anjum, Juhi and Raju, we are delighted to take the contest forward for another year. Discovering talent in our country is our key mission.”
Marcus, if you keep up with comments like this one you’ll give Naveen a run for his money (whether you can outdo his Akshay devotion with your Aamir one or not)! This comment will sound hilarious even to most true blue Aamir fans!
Why me? I am a trule blue fan of cinema and like Akshay a bit more. My reactions are usually to the undermining sector of SS. This should not be interpreted as blind follower of any particular star.
But if you do not agree then i can only say (dialog from my another fav star)
I think aamir is portraying someone cunning and oversmart and thus his movements. While Bachchan is aged and somewhat King like and that explains his movements. Cant compare oranges and apples.
It’s not even that. The masala universe, specially this kind of terrain, depends on grand gesturality. This is precisely why people have liked Bachchan so much in the trailer (not because he’s doing something extraordinary as a performer here). Because they have rarely got this from him over the last two decades or more. This is so incredibly elementary I feel foolish even having to make this point. I will however indulge in some understatement now (!) and say that this genre as we know it today is more or less a Bachchan invention. It of course predates him but this entire archive from North to South is informed by his work and gesturality. There are important exceptions like Mohanlal (when he does masala he of course does his own thing) or in a certain way Rajni as well (even if he has done a dozen Bachchan remakes). But otherwise anyone who treads on the masala genre, man or woman (and this is important) is performing in a way that owes something to him. Now the best option in such a scenario is to play the un-Bachchan but it’s not that easy. Because that universe favors grand gesturality. Even otherwise this sort of rogue-like character again cannot evade all the Bachchan rogues in exactly the same vein. This is not about being a fan of Aamir or not. I am one too. It’s not even because I’m a much greater Bachchan fan. It’s like saying one is being subtle and contained when Sampras is firing away aces at Wimbledon! And again I say this as someone who doesn’t think there’s anything special about Bachchan’s act here. Even in terms of gesturality let’s say this can’t hold a candle to what he’s done in the past. Nonetheless he’s impressive. This is not an argument against Aamir and of course he’d be the most shocked at such a statement. But again you can’t be subtle on BB terrain!
I have been echoing the same. Again, nothing against Aamir…but i think in certain role like the one ToH has for Amitabh…he will tower over anyone as pointed by Satyam above.
Marcus, you are over analyzing this. Bachchan’s shot seemed like a micro clip which was in slomo. If the makers thought Bachchan appeared slow, they would have used some vfx to make it seem like normal speed. I agree with Satyam here, they were just trying to reflect larger than life persona Azad might have had in the movie. They just don’t dish out with such flaws.
No over-analysis. Its just that Satyam cant think or imagine anything out of Bachchan’s masala troupes. Its end all for guyz like him. BB cant me made in more subtle way? You hear such statements and you know where the guy is coming from, and then ‘debates’ become pointless.
Actually I did not say that. I said, the way BB is made you need grand gesturality to pull it off. The idea that one is going to be subtle in BB is frankly absurd. A subtle BB would just be an entirely different film. But as it stands it needs to be over the top. The director understands this, the audience signs up for this as well.
As for the larger masala argument I define the (super)genre in much more precise ways. I don’t call every other thing masala. But Bachchan has in any case done the gamut from the quieter Zanjeer/Deewar kind of deal to the Desai kind of over the top stuff (not always… Desai himself has everything from Parvarish to AAA to Coolie with him) to everything in between. So I wouldn’t want to be the person doing the thankless job of looking for that in masala (even loosely defined) that Bachchan hasn’t done in a seminal way though you’re free to try this and get back to me with the results! Now on the subject on ToH it’s actually pretty bizarre to suggest that Aamir is himself doin anything understated here. He too knows this is not the film in which you do that! You might want to revisit the original trailer or the song trailer. As for that amusing cape point you’ve made I don’t see anyone agreeing with you so far but maybe you’ll have better luck tomorrow.
I admit I insist on Bachchan as this great horizon for Hindi cinema. Some insist on Bradman in cricket. No accounting for such fanatics. To argue for Aamir’s extraordinary, singular career since Lagaan (as I often have for years) it’s not necessary to lose all sense of proportion.
And yes it’s a pointless debate because this isn’t even a debatable point!
I thought his height is 5.2 or 5.3. Just imagine that with the handicap of his being the shortest hero he churned out much better films than his taller counterparts. That is called greatness. Not being 7 feet giant and being doing below par movies most of the time. I know Marcus started this but none of the aamir fans agreed with him. Even Kranti bashing was in bad taste I agree. Because TOH is not looking that great or pathbreaking from the trailers so far.
I mean to say that Bachchan’s height and baritone are natural gifts and his talent is his own. While lack of good height is the curse for aamir and his talent took him to where he is. Imagine Bachchan without his height and baritone and only his talent. He would have been another Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna who achieved great success with their talents. Imagine aamir with good height! Atleast he would not have been called bauna in twitter feeds.
And Naveen wants to talk only about towering presence and not about the various expressions given by aamir which are quite interesting. One will warm upto this only if one is true aamir fan.
Kranti bashing was in bad taste because TOH is not looking great? Great logic! TOH will get bashed more IF it its that bad. Simple.
It does not matter what another Aamir fan ‘thinks’; one look at the scene above and it shows without doubt who is effortless and who is laborious. Any Aamir fan’s opinion about it means nothing. As for Satyam’s ‘debate’ that body language has to be theatrical in masala genre, the response is that it is a shitty genre in the first place. Something that has been a bane for indian industry for decades now (and its impossible for Bachchan fans to accept that).
Lagaan is masala too. There’s hardly anything subtle (including Aamir teeth-gnashing in a few scenes) in the film. Even the villain is over the top (as he should be).
As for Satyam’s ‘debate’ that body language has to be theatrical in masala genre, the response is that it is a shitty genre in the first place. Something that has been a bane for indian industry for decades now
Funnily enough, Aamir keeps coming back to this genre. From Ghajini to Fanaa to Dhoom 3 to all of Raju Hirani films. I’m glad he doesn’t share any of your disdain for what is the most influential genre in Indian cinema (not just Hindi cinema).
In fact, any film that has songs that are lip-synced with dancers in the background, owes its existence to the masala genre. That would include 99% (or more) of the films being made today.
“As for Satyam’s ‘debate’ that body language has to be theatrical in masala genre, the response is that it is a shitty genre in the first place.”
Actually I didn’t use the word ‘theatrical’ at all. I said ‘grand gesturality’. There’s a difference. As for your comment above =, leaving aside the fact that it is utterly ill-informed I’m not sure why you’re waiting for ToH. Even if it’s an outstanding film it will still be an example of masala. In fact based on everything we’ve seen so far it seems to be soaked in the grandest masala traditions. As for it being the ‘bane of the industry’ for decades that’s a bit odd given that it actually hasn’t been the dominant genre in Bombay cinema since the end of the 80s or at the most the early 90s. Bachchan himself hasn’t done masala that often over the last twenty years. In fact it’s the rare film where he attempts it. There has of course been a bit of a revival, by way of the Telugu ‘offshoot’, in the films of Salman and Rohit Shetty. Finally, and simply as a logical matter you’re saying something completely different now. Let’s assume it’s the worst genre in the history of cinema. That has nothing to do with the point on gesturality and in fact the point you started out by making (on Aamir ‘subtly’ throwing off his cape!).
Films don’t exist in a vacuum. The period in which Kranti was made, the filmmakers didn’t know any better. Besides, if one was making a mass movie (and there were no realistic or art movies in that era, unless we start talking about Hrishikesh Mukherjee) this is how blockbusters were made.
It’s like saying the rotary-dial telephone or the black & white TV in the 80s should not exist because it’s so poor in comparison to today’s technology
Even during those times we had better made masala movies from MEA to Jis desh Mein or even BR chopra’s films. Kranti is not the right bar. And J.P. Dutta’s films.
JP Dutta used to make epics. I think he used to be coerced into putting songs into his films. Ghulami doesn’t have songs that can be classified as normal Bollywood song and dance routines.
The masala genre when well made with the right amount of emotion, drama and action is still the best bet in terms of wholesome entertainment. Nothing yet matches Sholay, the greatest masala film in Indian cinema yet. As for Aamir, some of his best films have been punctuated with melodramatic masala moment, be it Sarfarosh, Lagaan, 3 Idiots, RDB or Dangal.
Big B continues to tower over everyone in every scene with his towering personality, voice, dialogs, screen presence and personality. This could be his best role after Khakhee.
Yes and so is Amitabh in ToH. He is very serious. He is on a mission.
Of course both (Khakhee and ToH) are different films by different directors (Santoshi is far superior in his film making), Big B was 10 years younger or maybe more, etc but i sense a very important role here played by him.
To get such roles requires the current stars to agree to accept certain realities. Else such movies are not easy to make where you allow the scene stealer to be in the same scene.
Unfortunately that’s not likely, these films are structured as male enterprises. Elsewhere in the #metoo thread I’ll say something about this.. how this has consequences for sexual harassment (believe it or not).
actually it is silly to compare aamir and bachchan in acting dept. The Later is an unbelievable screen-dynamite with his barritone…..Big B is supremely talented and gifted actor ( i rate him much higher than overrated Dilip Kumar). Aamir is a complete package and he immerses himself so much with the character he is playing that most of the times, he ventures out of the “hindi filmi hero who can do all” zone and quite jeeringly gives away limelight to other co-stars (RDB climax is a proof enough….). How do u compare these two? one has the capacity to rise above everything (poorest scripts included) and the other has the capacity to elevate everything right from the script-levels…..if u ask me, Big B is not comparable and is a Superstar Actor par excellence and Aamir is a complete package and is a Superstar who delivers stunningly successful and complete products in the form of films as a whole. Again, he too is not comparable.
I think Bachan towers over almost everyone (including Aamir) as an actor and as a superstar. He has lifted otherwise average films completely on his very own and made them work. And he has done it times and time again. He is still doing it. He is not comparable. That mix of his range, versatility. baritone, height, charisma is unique.
Aamir is an extremely fine actor. His forte lies in his subtlety and naturalness as an actor. In an era when the likes of SRK or Salman were hamming it up, he demarcated himself by acting with subtlety most of the times.
But I feel his biggest strength is his script sense and vision as a film maker. He sees things from a perspective that very few, if any, actor can look from. He elevates films through his vision.
Amirs strength is not script sense, it is business sense. He knows what works and who to maximize its potential in the market. You just cannot bracket Aamir into, Actor, Script Sense, Editor, distribution strategy etc., he is everything. Bachchan the God.
If some troll deliberately misspells we can take revenge by mutilating the spelling of his or her screen name. The habitual offender used to be oldgold. We should not mind if our name is also mutilated as a retaliation.
My tryst with Amitabh has graduated from being awestruck by his mega stardom (long queues, family members talking about him, friends talking about him, unable to get video cassttes of his movies like Hum or Shahenshah unless you pay more, euphoria about his dancing style, baritone, personality….)
to more of immense respect. I hugged his statue at Madam Tussauds and felt overwhelmed then.
to loving him like my family elderly person.
So my appreciated for him comes from heart, naturally and in a supremely arrogant way whenever he is mentioned.
If that small clip has evoked so many arguments, just imagine what will happen when the film releases! Nothing less than an earthquake!
I am expecting fireworks on Diwali!
Excited.
Trailer indeed was good. Song was bad despite repeated listening.
Dialog promos of Amitabh are aces. One need to have his dialogs once every week.
ToH has an assured opening now and could be record breaking due to festival release.
Back from BADHAI HO. Once, again, after STREE, what an over-hyped movie. Either I have become too demanding, or I have just lost it. I am ready to accept any verdict.
All I can say is it’s an average film and is absolutely not a must-visit to the cinema hall. It’s good in bits and pieces and not uniformly. Undoubtedly the writers are the true heroes of the movie but this is not at all a whole-some experience. The film falls flat on its face in the last 40 minutes or so and is a farce there-on. It is the actors, mainly Gajaraj Rao, Neena Gupta, and Sheeba Chaddha that brighten the screen. Surekha Sikhri is good but she’s done this umpteen times before. The Lodhi Colony middle-class milieu is well-captured.
I truly am not understanding the audience and critics going ga-ga over such films. Just being different from mill-of-the-road is not great. I was similarly disappointed with Raghavan’s BADLAPUR after rushing to watch it what with critics going ga-ga over it.
And Ayushmaan is still stuck in MTV mode though he might utilize to a fair degree the Delhi lingo to convince the audience.
Badlapur wasn’t a thriller though. It was a saga about revenge (and what it does to a person) instead of being a revenge saga. I think it’s a very good film.
And I’d like to add that Andhadhun is a continuation of Raghavan’s exploration of this domain. His characters in Andhadhun are also morally bankrupt and the ones who are not, suffer a very indifferent fate. Put differently, Raghavan doesn’t make films about morally upright people. He’s only interested in the darker shades of human nature and this has been a constant theme in all of his films (haven’t seen Agent Vinod though).
Even the title (Badlapur) suggests otherwise — it’s a destination, a place that one gets to reside in, if that person is hellbent on revenge.
Towards the end, there is not much difference between Nawaz and Varun Dhawan’s characters. In fact, the latter’s journey makes him a much worse human being (if one can call him that).
I shouldn’t have put BADLAPUR in the same context as BADHAI HO., especially knowing your fondness/love for Raghavan 🙂 My bad.
Suffice it to say, with all the sub-that I know of, I found the film under-whelming as a film; not as a moral text or sub-text. And Varun Dhawan trying to ‘act’ was a bit of a joke. I was infact chuckling in the theaters when that fellow tried to act with a pathetic dialogue delivery.
My disappointment with BADHAI HO is with the context of expectations versus the bouquets it is getting. This could NEATLY be put as a 1 hour episode on some TV channel and one would miss NOTHING.

All masala films cant be kept in one basket just like all non masala cant be thrown in one bin. Bachchan’s masala is different from Salman’s. Akshay’s is different and so is aamir’s. And the director gives his own input. The general feeling is that masala films are mainly entertainers. Art films are masala for niche audience who are entertained by those films. At the end of it we start discussing how well the star acted and how interesting the dialogues were and how well the film was made whether it is an art film or masala film or a hybrid of art and masala.

I am totally against such cinemas. I am ok if this is documentary or shared by government or societies to make parents beware of accidents. But releasing this for cinema is a crime. Also the girl is not looking 2 years old…she is surely 3-4 years.
Regarding masala I forgot Govinda who is the master of masala. I loved Bade miya Chote miya which is as good as Andaz Apna Apna for me. I never miss the reruns.
While the masala film genre originated from Bollywood films in the 1970s, there have been several earlier influences that have shaped its conventions. Examples of this influence include the techniques of a side story, back-story and story within a story. Indian popular films often have plots that branch off into sub-plots; such narrative dispersals can clearly be seen in the 1993 films Khalnayak and Gardish. The second influence was the impact of ancient Sanskrit drama, with its highly stylized nature and emphasis on spectacle, where music, dance and gesture combined “to create a vibrant artistic unit with dance and mime being central to the dramatic experience.” Sanskrit dramas were known as natya, derived from the root word nrit (dance), characterizing them as spectacular dance-dramas which has continued in Indian cinema. The third influence was the traditional folk theatre of India, which became popular from around the 10th century with the decline of Sanskrit theatre. These regional traditions include the Jatra of Bengal, the Ramlila of Uttar Pradesh, and the Terukkuttu of Tamil Nadu. The fourth influence was Parsi theatre, which “blended realism and fantasy, music and dance, narrative and spectacle, earthy dialogue and ingenuity of stage presentation, integrating them into a dramatic discourse of melodrama. The Parsi plays contained crude humour, melodious songs and music, sensationalism and dazzling stagecraft.”[21]
A major foreign influence was Hollywood, where musicals were popular from the 1920s to the 1950s, though Indian filmmakers departed from their Hollywood counterparts in several ways. “For example, the Hollywood musicals had as their plot the world of entertainment itself. Indian filmmakers, while enhancing the elements of fantasy so pervasive in Indian popular films, used song and music as a natural mode of articulation in a given situation in their films. There is a strong Indian tradition of narrating mythology, history, fairy stories and so on through song and dance.” In addition, “whereas Hollywood filmmakers strove to conceal the constructed nature of their work so that the realistic narrative was wholly dominant, Indian filmmakers made no attempt to conceal the fact that what was shown on the screen was a creation, an illusion, a fiction. However, they demonstrated how this creation intersected with people’s day to day lives in complex and interesting ways.”[22] During the 1970s, commercial Bollywood films drew from several foreign influences, including New Hollywood, Hong Kong martial arts cinema, and Italian exploitation films.[23]
Tamil film Vada Chennai and Bollywood movie Badhaai Ho were recently leaked on Tamilrockers.
After the I&B Ministry of India took down Torrentz website, Tamilrockers has become the latest menace for filmmakers. The website, which began with catering to the south Indian movie fans, is gaining pan-nation popularity by the day. So much so, that despite attempts at pulling it down, it keeps returning with a new domain.
To put it easy, Tamilrockers.com is a desi version of the internationally notorious Pirate Bay. It enables free download of mostly South Indian movies and other content via a torrent client. The website is flooded with movies from various languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and now, even Hindi and English.
It barely takes days for Tamilrockers to get a film up for download on its website. Bollywood films like Badhaai Ho and Namaste England, which released last week can already be found here. Hollywood movies like First Man and Venom, along with regional ones like Kayamkulam Kochunni, Sandakozhi 2, Aravindha Sametha and U Turn are also available for free download on the website.
Films aren’t the only content Tamilrockers caters to. Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Netflix show Sacred Games was also illegally ripped, just like its other show, The Haunting of Hill House.

Have seen half of Sanju and I must say that I agree with Saket so far. It also confirms my sense of the film after watching the trailers. It’s easily hirani’s poorest film so far. Some moments work, I really loved the Ruby video for example. It’s not that this is narratively a boring film, it’s just utterly insipid as a biopic on Dutt. Will say more after watching the second half. On Ranbir again (this too confirms a sense I had from the pre-release publicity) he’s often doing a great act of mimicry here (though note in the film’s very first song where he’s good in a Ranbir sort of way with his dance et al, he’s not like Dutt at all), it’s hard to otherwise see it as a ‘performance’. Still he does keep one entertained. To be honest it has come across so far as an utterly pointless film. Hirani is really wasting his talents if this is the direction he’s going in.
I disagree to an extent…..this might be Hirani’s weakest movie but its still damn entertaining which is something that’s not easy to do when you are making a biopic. I also believe that Ranbir did a hell of a job as Dutt…some scenes may have looked like mimicry but overall a great performance in my opinion. As for Hirani, i am pretty sure this is not the direction he is taking. The man has a lot of love for Sanjay Dutt for some reason (and his next will probably be Munna Bhai 3) but he is still the finest hindi director on scene at the moment. One thing I will say that I don’t ever see him making a movie out of his comfort zone (a romantic or an action or an out and out commercial movie) but then we don’t have those type of directors any more.
But it’s easy to do if the biopic becomes merely a gimmick to further a format that Hirani is comfortable with. In other words the film’s timelines are all a big blur. secondly so far at least all of Dutta problems (drugs for example) are again treated precisely as somewhat more serious elements in a comedy. Doesn’t Dutt’s life suggest the very opposite? He’s always been a very traumatized person. Yes he’s led a reckless life but a ‘comedy’ is not what comes to mind when I think of it. The film is entertaining enough, still better than most films around probably (though I was frankly still bored at points). But it’s still pointless if the biographical wager doesn’t work (as it didn’t for me). Again on the performance Ranbir is fluid throughout but still mimicking. In other words there’s a difference between ‘playing’ a figure and ‘becoming’ him. The Dutt gesturality is in some sense too easy, too much of a caricature by this point, endlessly indulged in by various stand-up acts and the like. I’ll indicate here if I change my mind after watching the second half. On Hirani once more you’re right I think. He won’t abandon this format easily but I think it will be for the worse (though he’ll probably keep getting his blockbusters).
The trick for Hirani was to make this a Dutt biopic, not shy away from the controversial aspects of AND keep the Hirani touch! This was never going to be a serious movie. Thats not Hirani’s style and will probably never be….the man found comedy in religion and was able to pull it off. My biggest problem with Sanju is that I just don’t think Sanjay Dutt himself has a place in indian movie history to warrant a biopic. I would have loved to see Hirani do Kishore Kumar’s biopic….someone whose lived a crazy life yet we really know nothing about him.
agreed on the idea that Dutt doesn’t really warrant a biopic. Having said that you can do biopics on relatively minor figures too if you say something serious with them. On the rest I agree that’s Hirani’s style and this is what the film was always going to be. But that’s not justification enough. On PK I thought the first half was excellent. The satire truly worked. Again in the second half things deteriorated, specially with that climax thing. It was still entertaining but didn’t quite live up to the promise of the first half. But here (and in agreement with Saket) I guess I’ve misjudged Hirani in some ways. He has considerable talents as a storyteller but he’s not really trying to do anything bold, which is a pity. With his talents he could be doing a lot more. But given who he is his best films are his first three (still find the first Munnabhai to be his very best). With PK he becomes more ambitious and pulls it off in at least the first half. Sanju though is a ‘regression’ as far as I’m concerned. Again, there’s nothing wrong in being this kind of director but he could be doing so much more. Similarly, and if the news is true, just not interested in the Gulshan Kumar biopic (an even less worthy subject than Dutt unless one is saying something important which Hirani is not likely to) but it will probably be a better film than Sanju.
This is regression. Hirani has proved he can entertain a certain way. This was his best chance to do something completely different but he made it in his trademark style. I did enjoy it but nothing compared to his four other films.
Doubt that Hirani will do the GK movie…first he will def not want to do another biopic right after Sanju, has an associate with VVC but more importantly, he always co-writes his own script. I will wait until the official announcement regarding the GK biopic. This could be another Salute (or Saare Jana se Acha) deal where Aamir was doing it, not doing it, doing it and then finally not doing it.
liked the second half of Sanju much more. The film does much better narratively because it focuses on one longer event in Dutt’s life. Also Ranbir has a more ‘real’ performance here, ironically this is because he’s less burdened by the mimicry aspect of the role. He invites much more empathy as a consequence. But this film is still hugely imbalanced. The first half doesn’t treat Dutt’s traumas seriously, weirdly it also has almost nothing about the industry in it (barring the Rocky shoot). Bizarre given that this is the life of a movie star. The film might have been better if Hirani had only focused on his second half material with vignettes from the past peppering the it, and perhaps more consistently going through Dutt’s life and career. In a way this film is about the ‘behind the scenes’ Dutt but for a movie star this is inextricable from the public image, and Hirani’s decision is in any case suspect since he tries so hard to make Ranbir go through all the public phases of that persona in terms of the look. All in all though the film is strangely decontextualized, if you’re already completely familiar with Dutt’s life and screen history you can relate to many of the pieces but otherwise there’s no real narrative arc to the film. The account is of course largely sympathetic. Here’s a recklessly irresponsible guy who gets himself into trouble all the time and finally in a very serious sense but he’s still more victim than anything else and the police/politicians/media are even worse. This is not an unreasonable interpretation but it’s too easy for a purported biopic. In other words just because Dutt is not a ‘terrorist’ doesn’t mean he’s a swell guy otherwise. The film even treats what ought to raise #metoo eyebrows as a bit of a joke. It’s really a cringe-worthy scene when Dutt is asked about how many women he’s slept with and he wonders if he should also be mentioning all the prostitutes. Finally he says that the number might be 300+ but because it’s hard to keep track completely he’s going to round it off at 350. And this is the attitude the film takes towards his drug habits and so on. Even with the TADA charges there’s some sleight of hand involved. Yes he isn’t guilty of the worst but socializing with gangsters, hiding serious weapons etc, these are not just ‘teen’ mistakes. But the film explains away everything. The gangsters force him to socialize (‘they shot Gulshan Kumar too’… actually the story is much more complicated on the nature of Bollywood’s nexus with gangsters in the 90s. Again I’ve always argued more or less what the film is showing or that Dutt is the most irresponsible guy around (except perhaps for the guy who runs people over and is still treated as a hero, as long as you’re not a ‘terrorist’ you can do this stuff) and has done some pretty crazy things. Eventually they caught up with him. But a film on him needed strong moral anchors than this. Overall worth a watch perhaps but easily Hirani’s first missable film.
On Kaushal again I agree with Saket. In general my sense about Kaushal is that he’s a chameleon-like actor for sure, very competent in all these turns so far. Better in some instances than others. The idea though that he’s excellent everywhere is absurd. There’s nothing so special about him in Sanju. He’s even more overrated for Raazi. Did like him a lot in MM. And I continue to value his necessarily more earnest Masaan turn. A good actor for sure who’s able to do a lot of different things and that’s already saying a lot. But this is different from any one performance being ‘great’ in the truly elevated sense.
second half is indeed very good and brings sense to the narrative. Overall i too was a tad disappointed by Sanju compared to his earlier films.
But then the same sense i got when i saw PK as that movies are again regressive in terms of high quality stuff Hirani had offered before. PK looked laboured compared to ease of cinema experience that Hirani had offered earlier.
Its not easy to manage expectations. But content like Munnabhai and 3 Idiots are rare. So i will still go for Hirani’s next and expect atleast a movie like Sanju.
Right from Zanjaar/Deewaar/Sholay to Anand, Chupke Chupke and Piku, Bachchan senior is one and perhaps the only actor in Hindi cinema thus far who can pull off any and every possible role, right from over the top dialogue delivery to melodramatic theatrics to subtle underplayed characters with panache and ease. Aamir with all due respect to his brilliant script sense, is much more of a rehearsed performer who evidently puts in hours of effort to get into a character, thereby being unable to appear completely natural at times, esp with his dialogue delivery like the messed up Punjabi accent in RDB or the over the top alien act in PK.
This is Aamir Khan fan club site and you are criticising him?
Criticism of Aamir is taken as an attack by many here. You will be branded by all the “I know it all” mr smarty pants kind of people.
I think you missed the point.
Attack on so called worst choices happen everyday. That’s a normal. In fact there is a hidden agenda but thats another story.
Attack on Aaka is not normal here. There are cyber bullies who then attack back with vengeance. As someone said earlier, these bullies can accept issues about their parents but not about their Aaka.
I am not condoning aggressive behavior when it happens. All fans get carried away at times. However it’s a bit hard to attack many of Aamir’s choices and defend those of most other stars if not all. It’s a consistency argument. Otherwise I don’t have an issue with anyone not liking him. What major commercial Hindi star is doing better films than him for close to two decades now? Answer: none! So one can certainly question his films but one is not going to find better commercial films than those in the present day. The ‘craziness’ here is that many people get upset for saying the obvious in this sense. They then turn around and defend far inferior films when it comes to their favorite stars. This is what the argument is about. Not some blind support of Aamir Khan. Most of the Aamir fans are not even completely on board for ToH (earlier D3). Not sure what more one could say! Again a few too go overboard at times but that’s not everyone. And again it’s not as if the ones objecting to this are perfectly reasonable, balanced fans when it comes to their favorites!
I think it’s alright to have a different yardstick for different cinemas.
Even in Hindi cinemas. the films are divided by concept genres (action, comedy, drama, family, etc.) and by superstars who are a genre among themselves.
So an Aamir film will not have the same yardstick as say SRK or Akshay film unless the other things – concept genre. Same was a romantic hollywood film will not be compared with the same yardstick as a hindi film and a hindi film with a bengali film in the same genre.
And Aamir films iwll be compared with his own films as that represents a genre.
Salman’s films are compared with his own previous films.
With star genres it is looked if it is as good as previous. Is the star trying something diufferent? similar budget genres, etc.
So if a fan of Akshay Kumar does not like PK….why the hell should an Aamir khan fan feel bad about?
This is an observation, not an attack. Aamir Khan remains one of the best things to have happened to Hindi cinema in the last 30 years for the fact that he’s acted in some of the greatest commercial films made in these years. However, it is indeed evident that he does put in hours of rehearsal into his performances (a fact that he himself accepts, reason why he’s tagged a perfectionist) due to which on certain occasions his acts come across as unnatural and labored. Attempting to defend the obvious borders on fanaticism, just like attempting to deny the fact that Akshay has acted in some good films over the last 5 years like Oh my God, Special 26, Baby, Airlift and Jolly LLB 2 borders on hate and cynicism, the exact opposite of fanaticism. Anyhow, its high time audiences give a boot to stardom and start appreciating good content and entertainment, irrespective of whose acting in those films and films like Stree and Badhaai Ho in 2018 are an excellent start. Not only have these films (without any real star value) have outperformed in urban metros (something that the likes of Hindi Medium, Pink and K&Sons managed), they have also performed exceedingly well among the smaller cities and tier 2 multiplex audiences, something which the above films didn’t. Its a sign that slowly but surely, even the non metro audiences are starting to give equal weightage to good content and not just focusing on face value alone. Gone are the days when even rejected films like Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and Happy New Year would gross huge only based on their face value. Poor content in today’s market would lead to rejection and losses even if the films have face value, as proved by Tubelight, JHMS and Race 3. In times to come, this gap would become even more closer and evident hopefully.
Aamir is very rehearsed. Tbh if you’re not a natural actor than working your ass off to be the best possible actor is the best attitude and 2nd best option. So either you’ve got it or you don’t. If you don’t you work as hard as possible by any means – this is hardly something to be ashamed of in any line of work.
Below is the letter that YRF studio’s distribution head for Mumbai circuit, Rajesh Malhotra, has reportedly sent out to the exhibitors, single screen and multiplexes.

Bollywood’s who’s who will be invited for the wedding, needless to say. Deepika and Ranveer’s close friends and family will be privy to this every private, very exclusive ceremony of the decade. On Koffee With Karan opening episode Deepika accidentally revealed that they have invited everyone: Aamir Khan, ex Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and others who were present at Karan’s house few weeks ago for an impromptu get together. Apart from that we are guessing Anaita Shroff Adajania, Homi Adajania, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Akshay Kumar, Zoya Akhtar, The Ambanis, and everyone who has either worked with or are close to the couple will be on this guest list.
Designers & the Works
We know for a fact that Deepika is a Sabyasachi loyalist but we are more interested to know what the groom will choose! We have inkling that she would be dressed as a quintessential South Indian bride for at least one of the ceremonies, owing to the fact that she has got all her jewellery from Bangalore with her mom and sister in attendance. Generally wild and whimsical with his fashion choices, it is still a mystery when it comes to Ranveer’s wardrobe.
Security arrangements etc.
Ranveer and Deepika want this wedding ceremony to be an exclusive secret and therefore have urged their guests to NOT carry cell phones at the venue to make sure no videos get online. There are many rules and regulations attached to the invite, we are told.
Interviews have started coming in. A good one here …
***************
Circling back to his current obsession Thugs of Hindostan, he talks about why this film may stand out in his filmography. “This is perhaps the only time in my career that I have selected a film based on the character; that’s how much I fell in love with the character Firangi. Basically, he is a self-serving, selfish mercenary who will sell his own mother for money. His only redeeming quality is that he is funny. In fact, there is a line in the film which describes him the best where he says, ‘Jab tak kisi ka bharosa jeet na lo, use dhoka nahin de sakte.’ I am hoping he is likeable in the end.”
There is a lot of conjecture around the movie being based on Philip Meadows Taylor’s 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug. Aamir negates it: “Thugs is a conventional, mainstream film which is essentially a revenge story. It’s not based on any book and is not historically accurate to the Thuggy period. The movie is a work of fiction.”
I ask him if he knew 30 years ago when his debut film as lead Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was about to release, if he had any clue of the superstardom that would follow. He chuckles, “I had no idea. I was just thinking that the film that we’ve made (QSQT) has so many flaws in it, I could see mistakes in my performance and I wished we could have done things better.”
In an irony of sorts, for a man who shuns most awards, his first film Holi (in which he had a cameo) had won the National Award for cinematography. “Holi was before QSQT but it never released as a film. Most people saw it on TV because it won a National Award. The rule may be applicable today too. Any film which wins a national award has to be shown on Doordarshan. I wasn’t playing a lead in that; I was one among 30 kids.”
After QSQT came Raakh, an experimental film, the first among many such unconventional, off-mainstream choices. What makes Aamir this fearless? He disagrees. “It’s not that I don’t have fears. It’s just that my fears don’t stop me from doing what I want to do. They just make me more alert. I am aware that what I am doing is experimental and may not succeed; I was aware of the kind of challenges that lay ahead of us with Lagaan, Sarfarosh, Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, and Dangal but creatively I wanted to go ahead so the fear never stops me from doing what I want. The fear keeps me on my toes.”
…
Why doesn’t he like being called a perfectionist? “I’m happy to be called a perfectionist, it is just inaccurate. In a creative space there is no such thing as perfection. I do a particular shot and you may think it’s great; another actor may do the same shot in a totally different way and you may still think it’s great. So which one is perfect? In creativity there are no absolutes. If people think I am a perfectionist, I’m happy that they think I am good but I can’t take that credit. But I try hard to get there.”
…
How does he reboot and rid himself of anxieties? “I read.” He shows me a copy of Amitabh Bagchi’s Half the Night is Gone which he just finished. “And I backpack once a year—all alone without security, Man Friday, manager. Right from airport check-in to hotel check-in to cooking to washing clothes, buying stuff to eat—I do it all by myself. As actors we are an indulged lot, these 2-3 weeks alone help me find myself. I sit in cafes, meet new people and do my own thing. It clears my head. Places I’ve visited are Iceland, Hawaii, and Buenos Aires—where there are fewer Indians and less of a chance to be recognised.”
I have read the interview online, a while back. There is no such list, titled,‘top Aamir films from Aamir’. There IS however a random shirt list of Aamir films that includes 3 Idiots.
@ Marcus. Yes, he mentions these films as risky films. But he does not indicate they are his best. Anyway, he has also often spoken up for the rest of his work, the good films, not in this list. Films like DG, Talaash, SS.

Badhaai Ho Beats Raid And Pad Man In Week One

Badhaai Ho has recorded the seventh highest first week total of the year as it beat films like Raid, Pad Man and Satyamev Jayate. The film collected 60.75 crore nett apprx in week one. The Delhi / UP and East Punjab numbers are the fifth highest of the year after the four big grossers Sanju, Padmaavat, Race 3 and Baaghi 2.
This is also the highest first week number of medium – small films except Tanu Weds Manu Returns which hit 69 crore nett. Most of these medium small films getting good first week numbers have come this year be it Stree, Satyameva Jayate, Raazi or Veere Di Wedding.
Ace director Shankar’s magnum opus Sci-Fi action thriller 2.0 is set to release on 29th November. The final leg post-production work is going on a full swing.
There was a speculation spreading last week that the trailer of 2.0 might come out as a Diwali treat, on 6th November. But now, reports suggest that the trailer release of 2.0 is preponed and it will be released on 3rd November, next Saturday as a pre-Diwali gift. We also hear that it will have a grand launch at Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai.
Breaking News: Ajay Devgn’s Total Dhamaal Gets Postponed To February 2019, De De Pyaar De Gets Pushed Further!
The delay in Total Dhamaal has proved to be a blessing in disguise for team 2.0.
Well it’s shattered TV records – this is an unbelievable viewership number… considering leading soap dramas don’t hit this kind of # for years. Only a royal wedding/funeral or sporting event would have the capacity to get 17 million viewers.
Watched Sanju fully after reading Satyam’s positive views. Movie is well made and entertaining. All actors did well and Ranbir towered followed by Rawal and Kaushal. Rawal’s act as an anguished father is the highlight of the film. Manisha is sweet and her song with Sanju is really good. Ranbir almost became Sanjay dutt.
But as a biopic it fails. As an entertainer it wins.

After worker’s death on Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4 sets, Sajid Nadiadwala aids his family; donates Rs 35 lakhEntertain
During the set building process of Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited film Housefull 4, an assistant welder, Solai Karuppan, 44, met with an accident on the set which led to his sudden demise.
Solayi, who survived by a wife and a daughter, might have bid adieu to the world but the producer of Housefull 4, Sajid Nadiadwala is making sure that his family has to go through no pain and while ensuring the same, he has helped the family with Rs. 35 lakh.
Why do I get this feeling — that Amitabh- Aamir have this weird relationship. Amitabh is mostly sarcastic, Aamir flattering… have a feeling that edit of film may see Amitabh and Katrina’s roles truncated a bit….
ha ha – they had a spat when Aamir blurted out after watching Black that performances were “OTT” and Big B reverted back with something like Aamir is a short (in height) fellow so it was bound to be OTT! Aamir had apologised later to Big B ….but after that AK has stopped giving negative feedback for any films on public platforms….
If he can romance his wife at 53, he can as well be a fan boy of Bachchan. Age has nothing to do with emotions. Anybody will fall in love with Bachchan because of his personality if not for his films. Bachchan is the most charismatic personality in India and other countries where Indians reside. He casts a spell and his charisma is highest now than when he was younger.

Thursday – 1,50,00,000 apprx
Friday – 2,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 1,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 4,75,00,000 apprx

Thursday – 1,50,00,000 apprx
Friday – 2,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 1,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday – 1,35,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 6,10,00,000 apprx

Raazi could have been a great movie. It had a great scope in the hands of Niraj Pandey. With Meghana, she made is so pro-‘enemy’ and bent backward on showing them in good light, political correctedness, the lady spy to be a cry baby, wimpy, that she, the spy, prolly is rolling in her grave with shock. M.G. took the thrill out of the thriller and made it into a totally boring movie.

If Bahl is indirectly forgiven, even the case against Anurag Kashyap and Motwane will not stand. So case against Nana Patekar which is very weak will also be dismissed and even Subhash Kapoor case will be diluted somehow. Only Sajid Khan case will stand as at present.

“BB cant me made in more subtle way? ”

Not being 7 feet giant and being doing below par movies most of the time. I know Marcus started this but none of the aamir fans agreed with him. Even Kranti bashing was in bad taste I agree.

Of course both (Khakhee and ToH) are different films by different directors (Santoshi is far superior in his film making), Big B was 10 years younger or maybe more, etc but i sense a very important role here played by him.
To get such roles requires the current stars to agree to accept certain realities. Else such movies are not easy to make where you allow the scene stealer to be in the same scene.

actually it is silly to compare aamir and bachchan in acting dept.

Completely Disappointed.

Haven’t seen Badhai Ho; never thought it would be a great entertainer anyway (Andhadhun is different though)

From Wikipedia:

Also, Aamir has approached Hirani for directing Mogul and Deepika to play the female lead.

Great news! If one has to be a fan of any superstar actor, then DiCaprio is your man. His filmography is far better than our great Amitabh.
Aamir is a different ballgame altogether. And thats by Bachchan’s own admission.

The Baraatis
