  3. It is as I predicted yesterday. They have made some minor tweaks. The accused is a woman (Taapsee Pannu) while the lawyer is a man (Amitabh Bachan) while it was the other way round in the original.

    Otherwise, it seems extremely similar.

Bachan looks in fine form here.

    • This looks good. Could be a sleeper hit. Thankfully Bacchan seems to be in good form. I caught up with TOH on prime and was so disappointed to see him in such a thankless role.

      • Agreed. It was a thankless role. Late Amrish Puri was getting much better deals than this in films like Diljale!

Some felt it was some kind of tribute to him, but I felt he was in there merely for what he brings in as additional collections for just being there. Not for the tremendous performer he can be. Not for the great actor he is.

But, Bachan these days lives with films like Badla, Pink and Pikku. These are films where he gets to experiment with different kinds of characters and the films are plot-driven. And he really does justice to his roles.

I was watching Pikku again recently and he easily was the best thing about the film. He lights up the screen every time he is there and really elevates the scenes he is in to another level.

Which is also why I don’t think Thugs affects him much. He is doing enough good work to put a set-back aside quickly.

just a bit of gender role reversal and that’s all

Ok, this may be slick and taut and all, but I still wonder why would Sujoy remake a film that is available on Netflix for a major chunk of urban diaspora to watch.

  6. I am not too sure a major chunk of that audience are too much into Spanish films. Sure, a few of them should know about any good film. But I guess that most of them are probably more into Indian or Hollywood productions.

    • I tried to watch it with sub titles but the spoken language put me off. Lack of synchronisation.
Maybe the Indian version will be more friendly. They may change the story also to make it more Indian.

  7. Did anyone else catch Amitabh’s name? He’s called BADAL Gupta — anagram for BADLA!

Cool trailer, and of course, Bachchan is in fine form here. I still think his act in Te3n is massively underrated. I absolutely loved that film.

i like Big B that way, he is quietly trying all the diff. genres, which no other actor is managing to do….SRK has got that hint now….akki is going OTT…..aamir is slow as a snail….glad that bachchan is still doing such amazing films

      • Most stars have managed to reinvent only 2-3 times.
Other stars have to do a lot to reach this level which i think is Big B 5.0

BigB 1.0 was from Zanjeer to Don
Big B 2.0 was from Sharaabi to Shahenshah
Big B 3.0 was from Indrajeet to Kohram
Big B 4.0 was fro Mohabbatein to Aarakshan
Big B 5.0 is from Piku till date.

    • I missed that! Thanks for pointing that out Saket.

@ Saket Teen is easily one of the finest Bachchan performances after his turn in NISHABDH. What an under-rated movie and what a slow-burn performance! It’s a joy to see his face and eyes shift lines when tries to sell his scooter, with the right tinge of helplessness and eagerness.

The only complaint I have about him since his performances from 2008 — beginning with SARKAR RAAJ — is that he is really lowering his voice much notches above than is required. You can see/hear it even here in BADLA when he first talks..I am not sure who gave him that idea but he’s been doing that. Look at how he used the same voice in NISHABDH in the initial scene when he talks of committing suicide…

      • I think Bachan’s performance makes Teen a better film than it really is. I liked the film mainly thanks to his performance. Otherwise, the original film (Montage- a Korean thriller) is overall a much better film. It was more gripping.

  9. Atlast watched The Invisible Guest after lowering the sounds to the minimum. Really very good movie. The atmosphere played a big role besides the fantastic screenplay. Many twists but a satisfactory end unlike Andhadhun.

  14. Fantastic trailer. Although would have liked some other actress in place of Taapsee (after their collaboration in Pink).

  16. This is a very good song. The movie is looking very good and Tapsee is a natural actor. Her filmography is becoming stronger.

Amitabh is present in few shots but his personality towers over everyone and thanks to Tapsee’s charm and vulnerability shown via emotions, she is able to look very competitive.
