No one liked it and people were calling it bad trailer itself, but so many comments from everyone.
I think that has more to do with timing too and it was a remake of parinda. At that time there was boxoffice talk too but there was a lot of discussion around films. Now it’s primarily boxoffice, BOI, and judging by the post below, degrade anyone who doesn’t buy into NaMo.

Tanhaji is receiving mind-boggling reviews. Last time, a big film got such reviews was Dangal.
This is a big blockbuster, though impact of clash and no good release date will impact its prospects.
Saibal’s, Raja Sen’s and Anna Vetticad’s of the world would trash it anyhow only due to the presence of Ajay D. Much to the glee of certain members on this forum for whom the 2 time national award winning veteran is nothing more than a Vimal brand ambassador (Zakhm’s, Company’s, Bhagat Singh’s, Omkara’s and Gangaajal’s be damned). Hopefully Tanhaji grosses huge and trashes these impostors.
We have many threads (trailer and images) which were generating no comments; If the movie is small, it goes in other thread. If in future some trailer does generate some comments, we will make a separate thread.
There is no conspiracy that new threads are not opened for certain movie; people have job apart from blogging and things sometime take time or there is delay in registering.

On the same day, many guessed this, it was so obvious. When Within same hour, iran govt said it happened due to technical snag. and everybody wondered they didnt even wait for black box.
This news came during same hours when iran did missile attack on usa military area.
How come they were so sure ? Also, first video had shown plane falling like fireball, that indicates something major happened in the air, either a bomb or missile caused it.
This happened close to airport in iran just after flight took off. No way usa can reach there, they were fighting in iraq. This happened within same hour, iran missiles hit usa base in iraq.
Also, defensive statement came from iran within the same hour flight took off which is very unusual.
All of these clearly shows iran was on backfoot and trying to cover up. It is clearly them.
Iran already knew it, thats why immediate excuse of technical snag.
As blackbox is with Ukraine airlines now as per procedure. They had to accept it due to fear of revelation coming up.

Actually, due to 3 big south movie release Tanhaji received just 4 shows and chhapak just 3 shows in whole city.
And good newzz is completely taken off inspite of shows running with good capacity.

Tanhaji buzz will take over completely from eve onwards. There is just so much competition this week with 2 big bollywood and 3 big south releases.
And all of these movies have been received in decent(chappak, darbar) to excellent(Tanhaji) range, not sure of 2 other south movie reception but looking good. Chances of good newzz making to 200 club is almost gone now with already 70% reduced screens this week.
Maharastra/pune/gujarat is taken over completely by tanaji and delhi/up chappak n tanhaji both are doing good. South is all gone to local releases.

Loafer meaningless trash 20 cricket matches impact nothing unless someone wants to find lazy excuses. Super 30 did well on a Sunday despite the WC & Wimbledon final on the same day.
Some of the newer reviews is 2.5 to 3 for Tanhaji. It’s probably more like 3 than 4. The problem is couple giants own most of the media so the news output is pretty much same.
Those all new one are from ndtv and indian express. They clearly wrote ideological problems in film. Even anupama chopra said movie should have been more secular. Lol
We always knew their opinion before release. Still, they have give 2.5 to 3 stars is big thing. Others have given 4-5 stars.
Bms rating is hight above 90+ After 10k+ votes. Which is real audience. Lets see if it sustains above 90+ as more audience watch it.

If it’s that good than we’re looking at 300+ crore easily. One good thing about this movie is that it’s short, that’s how movies should be unless you’re like old time directors who can keep the audiences glued for 3 hours.
We may be looking at something special if audiences catches on to it like bahubali 1/2.
With this low start, 300 cr would be unprecedented milestone. 200cr is pretty much confirmed though.
First day would be around 15 cr, all depends on jump tomorrow. I m sure it will sustain strong monday onwards.

An under 5 Cr opening for Chapaak is a shocking disaster! Extremely unexpected considering Meghana Gulzar’s last was Raazi and Deepika’s coming back after 2 years. 16 Cr for Tanhaji is decent considering Ajay’s limited star appeal, although its underwhelming considering the grandeur and scale of the film. Needs to grow well to collect 150+ and entertain any hopes of 200+.
16crr for Tanhaji and 4.75crrs for Chhapaak as per BOI. Sat jump will tell where Tanhaji is heading. Could go anywhere between 150-200crrs as of now. Chhapaak at best may do 60-65crrs if wom pushes it. Else can wrap under 50crrs.
35-40 cr lifetime for chappak. And 180-220 for tanhaji is given. I am watching tanhaji tomorrow , then can be more sure if this exceptional wom is real.
Seems like Raazi was indeed a fluke and Meghna is headed the VB, Kashyap way instead of the Zoya, Shoojit way as a box office dud film maker whose only hope of relevance would be the luteyans media & self proclaimed intelligentsia.
Madras Cafe was a far superior film to Talvar imo & was a box office performer in urban plexes too. In fact its one of the best of the decade in my opinion. Talvar was a glorified one sided view of a certain sequence of events which if seen as an independent film, works okay but the obvious narrative bias is evident.
Final numbers for both movies are lower. 14.5crr for Tanhaji while 4.25crr for Chhapaak. Tanhaji needs big boost today like 20crrs+ to put good lifetime total. Chhapaak exposes the so called last female super star bo pull. Not a big draw on her own. And this is after generating some buzz due to JNU visit or else the OD numbers would have been around 3crrs.
15 cr is an underwhelming opening for a big budget extravaganza. Tanhaji will need to trend really well from here to get to 150 cr. 10x of day 1 with no major holiday is not a joke.
Yes AD’s never really had a fanbase among the urban metro crowd of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore & Kolkata. Its the semi metros & tier 2/3 audience of Nagpur, Rajkot, Jaipur etc that most of his films bank on, be it Singham or the Golmaal’s. Same for Tanaji esp in tge Maharashtra interiors.
A Devgan original movie not a sequel like Golmaal doing 300crrs? AD would be very happy if this scores between 150-200crrs. AD is no khan or even veer in stardom. OMG. Finally watched and read some review on Chhapaak and Tanaji. Who would have thought a hyper nationalist’ and ‘Saffronized’ film will get unnanimous unanimous praise and glowing review over Luteyens and Liberal’s Fav Chhapaak. Even in english media. That shows how good the Tanaji is and how pretentious Chhapaak is.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior is set to emerge a HIT film as it shows a huge turnaround on Saturday in key areas. The film has shown a huge jump in Delhi NCR and East Punjab with collections doubling from the previous day in many centres. Both circuits could be 70-80% up from Friday which is a very good sign for the films especially as the other main area Mumbai is strong from day one.
The growth in Mumbai will be less but the film has a good chance to cross the 20 crore nett mark on day two which would mean growth of 40% plus which is very good for this type of film. It is early so collections could go even higher than 20 crore or remain a little lower like yesterday but what is there is a solid trend for the film which will mean a good run at the boxoffice. Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior should now work outside Maharashtra which was crucial with this huge jump in North but it will be the weekdays which will confirm this.
The other release Chhapaak is poor as the growth will be similar to Tanhaji – The Warrior but considering its a high end multiplex film for metros only and half the screens of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior it should be growing more.
The film could hit the 6.50 crore nett mark which is unlikely to be good enough as the first day did not come through. This sort of growth from a 6 crore nett day one could have been a different story altogether.
Having watched Tanhaji now.
I can rule out wild possibility of 300 cr. But it can scrap through 200, just like Singham did in 2011 staying in cinemas for 10-12 long week run.
-ve – lack of family entertainment value and special effect especially in first half.
+ve – Everything else, especially very well choreographed fight sequences. After all, ajay devgn is son of Action director.
That shows in all of his movies and movie selection.
This is one of the best action movie ever in indian film industry , not just bollywood.
Shivaay was very aswell in terms of action and production values to performances but one of the worst editing spoiled it.
Here, in addition to better performances, crisp editing and great dialogues,
historical character and emotional impact also works in its favor.
Overall, it is so engaging, you don’t want to blink your eye. Whatever shows on screen works except vfx created animals, which can be called good for bollywood standards but seems more like distraction.
STORY : Run of the mill albeit the tale of bravery, sacrifice and valor would never go out of vogue. Must be added though that unlike the superficially mushy Bajirao Mastani or the comically obsessive Padmaavat, Tanhaji sticks to its guns & does not let unnecessary romance get in the way of the core narrative.
SCREENPLAY & DIRECTION : Alright for most part although there were a few scenes where the narrative cut abruptly and jumped to the next sequence without any real coordination. Well edited to keep the film tight & crisp, Ajay D seems to have learnt from the editing fiasco of Shivaay.
PERFORMANCES : Effective if not great. Ajay is his usual reliable self, Kajol in her brief presence shows everything that Priyanka & Kriti should have been in Bajirao & Panipat respectively. Saif is good, however that being said, his character is unfortunately and unnecessarily modeled on similar lines to Ranveer’s masterclass in Padmaavat and hence the lack of novelty would prevent Saif from getting the kind of appreciation his performance deserves.
ACTION / VFX : Undoubtedly the film’s USP. Very well shot, edited and choreographed for most part except when they display graphically created animals where the flaws are imminent. Barring this minor glitch, the film definitely scores in this department.
MUSIC : Completely unnecessary and serves no purpose. Even the background score is jarring to the extent where you frustratingly might miss out on a few prime dialogues.
Overall a 7/10. A good, decent worth watching film on the big screen despite its lack of novelty.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has recorded excellent collections on Sunday with 25-26 crore nett as per early estimates which will mean a 60 crore nett weekend for the film. The growth is superb on Sunday with collections going up 30%. It makes it even better that the competition and holdover releases have not grown much on Sunday.
The film has scored very good numbers in Mumbai circuit and good numbers in CP Berar and Nizam / Andhra. The other circuits have not done as well but they can make ground over the weekdays as the growth has been excellent on Saturday and Sunday. There was also be the benefit of minor holidays in some circuit.
The film has done around 27 crore nett in Mumbai which is a big weeeknd number and its this circuit where the film can go on a very strong run and hit a very big number. Delhi / UP is just 9 crore nett apprx and here it will have to have a Monday close to the first day number which is possible.
Chhapaak has fared poorly with a 7-7.50 crore nett Sunday which means a weekend of 18 crore nett plus. The weekend numbers were never going to be much but these films are not about the weekend number but the weekend trend which is not good. When a film like Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior shows better trending than a concept film like Chhapaak then you know that film is in trouble.
This film will also get some benefit from the minor holidays but after that there will be struggle and its unlikely to sustain in the long run.

Looks like they will clash. BP team seems adamant about that date. But 3 biggies in a span of 2 weeks is a race condition to get screens. If it happens, then LSC will find it difficult to cross 300 cr IMO. Its a low to medium budget film, so maybe 250 cr would be enough for a hit/superhit tag.
Dangal did almost 200 cr in first week and 100+ cr in second week. Its not easy to repeat that with multiple competition and less number of screens. 400 cr for LSC is really difficult.
As I said, 300 cr may also be tough even with good WOM. Of course, if the movie turns out to be as good as PK or Dangal then all this math goes for a toss and the lifetime business becomes unpredictable.
It is now evident that holidays are ‘quite’ important and give a boost of 20-25 Cr. In case of superb season like what War got –
2 National Holidays + Weekend (Fri-Sun) + Additional day with enhanced ticket rate, a bonanza of 30-35 Cr comes.
A Tanhaji releasing on War kind of date would have crossed 100 Cr in 3 days. Now it will take 6 days.
A War releasing on Tanhaji kind of non-holiday date would have struggled to cross 300 Cr and might not have become HGOTY.
Kabeer Singh releasing on War kid of dates would have dones 350 Cr+
Rare movies like Baahubahi 2 / Avengers End Game defy the holidays. But the fact remains that lot of movies do benefit if they are good. May be BB2 would have netted 50Cr more.
Holiday dates are overhyped and I do not see any addition of 20-25 Cr in the final tally. Yes on the concerned date the collections are indeed escalated by 40-50% but the subsequent days of non holidays, the drop is always greater than normal that balances things out to a great extent. In the final run it hardly makes a difference of 10% at max, that too if its more than one major holiday in the week like War received. That being said, War was hit badly by Syeraa in AP/Nizam circuit and by Joker in the A1 metropolitan centers and perhaps with a solo release on a regular working week, it might still have had the 290-300 Cr nett figure it ultimately landed up with. All these stats and figures about holidays and clashes are mere speculations. Ultimately, a good well received film will get the screens and run well irrespective of competition or holidays. Bahubali 1 ran for over 10 weeks in Hindi despite Bajrangi releasing just the week after which clearly puts all these theories to rest. As for Tanhaji, even with a big holiday release, it would never have done >75 Cr over the weekend as Ajay simply lacks the following among the metropolitan centers. And a 75+ weekend total would have led to a greater % drop on Monday as opposed to what it is now, so in the final tally it would basically be even stevens.
Eid 2021 is another bonanza kind of date. Thursday + 3 day weekend. Enhanced ticket rates by 20% and voila additional 25 Cr in the kitty if a solo release.
No wonder Salman whose stardom is tipped on openings, latched on to it even without a script.
I will not be surprised if a big Dharma / YRF / UTV comes on that day.
The sudden startling announcement of and by Salman Khan of his latest project entitled rather significantly Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali raised quite a few eyebrows. Why announce a film for Eid 2021 which is a year-and-a -half away? Looks like there is a well thought-out strategy to this seemingly premature move. Apparently the Salman Khan starrer Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali is a film relevant to, or rather a counterpoint to, the present-day politics in India.
“In this atmosphere of polarization and toxicity, the need of the hour is messages of harmony and peace. Cinema has been a sincere platform of secularism in our country; Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali will take the cinematic experience back to the days of films like Yash Chopra’s Dharmputra and Dhool Ka Phool. It addresses the issue of Hindu-Muslim amity,” says an informed source.
Apparently the source for the plot is Salman Khan’s own family. “His father is Muslim. His mother is Hindu. Helen Aunty is a Catholic. Salman’s family is a living example of communal amity. The film’s plot will be similar. It will portray the ups and downs in a family which celebrates both Eid and Diwali with equal fervour. It will be Salman’s homage to the enduring spirit of oneness and brotherhood, a counterpoint to the currently vitiated atmosphere in the country,” says the source.
This movie’s title is butt of all jokes. To give up Inshallah was a catastrophic decision by Salman. Salman just wants Eid date. Laxxmibomb should easily hit Radhe for a 6.
China BO has been topped in last 3-4 weeks by a movie called Sheep without a shepherd which is an official remake of Malayalam movie Drishyam. It has done over 150mn till now.
Tanhji – The Unsung Warrior has emerged a HIT film and held very well on Monday with collections sure to cross the 10 crore nett mark. The fall is pretty minimal from Monday and by the evening it may just be a 15-20% fall on an all India basis.
There will be some places which may have a fall which is hardly 0-5% by the evening. Maharashtra is super strong and could do a repeat from Friday and Delhi and East Punjab have a holiday for Lohri tomorrow which means evenings could takes these areas towards there Friday number. This means the fall will come in Central, East and South India but it will be in the 25-30% region as Friday was weak in these parts.
The final numbers for Monday could even get in the 11-12 crore nett but that will depend how it collects in the evening. If it does get here it should remain around these levels or even more for the next two days which could mean a 100 crore nett apprx first week number but it remains to be seen where the film finishes on Monday.

Good Newwz was lucky to have a rejected movie when it released and 2 open week + a holiday on its 1st Tuesday.
Tuesday (1st Jan) saw more footfall than 1st Sunday but had lower collection because ticket prices were not enhanced, perplexing many in the trade.

Tanhaji have more footfalls because it is creating havoc in single screens especially of maharastra. Also, Golmaal3 was very popular in single screens of maharastra and gujarat.
Good newzz ticket rates on holiday were less than sunday, but occupancy was higher. Take any source, addatoday or bollytrick or sumit kadel. This was mentioned by everyone.
While khans movie like to keep weekend ticket rates for 4-6 days depending on holidays, here that wasnt the case. In monday itself, ticket rates were down by 30% and wednesday it was higher but still 15-20% lower than sunday.
For a bad movie, the high ticket rates boomerang as well.
Distributors usually try to arm twist exhibitors during event movies releasing during holidays. So exhibitors have no choice but to increase the tix price to cater to those demands.
Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has roared on Monday to collect in the 12-13 crore nett range. The film was fantastic in evening shows across the country which pushed the collections to a high level and the film also put Chhapaak in its place on Monday by having collections which were six times more.
The collections of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior on Monday may not be as high as some other films but its one of the highest collections ever when its normal rates on Monday. Most films which have high Monday numbers keep blockbuster rates or enhance the weekday rates which is not the case here. Good Newwz late last year had slightly higher collections on Monday but the footfalls for Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior are far higher than Good Newwz. the evening collections in Delhi and Punjab were helped as its a holiday there tomorrow.
The drop came basically in mass centres of Maharashtra where it opened well on Friday and the rest of India has seen collections in the same range as day one even though multiplexes have lower ticket rates. It takes the film to around 72-73 crore nett and it now should get to 100 crore nett plus for the week at least as it will get benefit of the minor holidays over the next couple of days.
Chhapaak crashed on Monday with collections dropping more than 50% from Friday which itself was a low opening day. The film collected 2-2.25 crore nett on Monday and it could have been even worse but places like NCR and Chandigarh got benefit of the holiday on Tuesday. The film has been totally rejected by the public and will hardly benefit from the minor holidays over the next days and there will be more falls after this holiday period. The total collections after four days are 20 crore nett and the week will be 26-27 crore nett.
Its raining Salman films! Eid and Christmas 2021 already booked. As a producer Salman is still making money from his under-performers. Looks like he wants to make as merry as possible till it all fades out.

Bwood marketing should make a case study out of the ‘Chapaak’ disaster, and how not to be on the wrong side of The Silent Majority thought-process.
Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior continues it excellent run at the box office as it collects in the 16 crore nett range with collections going up 20% from Monday. the film has seen good growth in most areas while Gujarat / Saurashtra was extraordinary as collections went back up to Sunday levels. It was a partial holiday in parts which helped while in Gujarat / Saurashtra it would have been like a national holiday as the jump is huge.
It has to mentioned like yesterday that these numbers are coming on normal weekday rates at multiplexes which means footfalls are more than other films which would have got this sort of Tuesday in 2019. Good Newwz was a film which collected a little less on Tuesday but the footfalls of Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero are 40-45% more than that film.
This will take the Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero total to around 89-90 crore nett in five days and its pretty certain it should hit cross 100 crore nett tomorrow as its another partial holiday in parts. The week seems on course to cross 110 crore nett.
Chhapaak was flat despite the partial holiday as will collect in the 2-2.25 crore nett range. The film is going to be one of those rare films that will actually lose money joining Pagalpanti and Panipat in recent times. The industry is placing their bets on Akshay, Aamir and the young guns for this decade. I think the key will be to consistently have releases if anyone wants to compete with Akshay at this point.
yeah, the changing demographics have dented SRK and Salman model of lambi lambi dialoguebaazi coupled with action. Akshay, HR and Ajay have shifted to focus on the script. Aamir always was script focussed.
Aamir i think will do well this decade. But may not get as many all time grossers like he did last decade. And question remains on his volume of films.
Aamir is in the Raj Kapoor league. Might not be the kind creating frenzy via looks, slo-mo mannerisms or dialogue delivery like a Bachchan, Salman or Hrithik, but has exceptional scripting & screenplay sense coupled with an ability to live & breathe every character he plays, something very reminiscent of Raj Kapoor & Dilip Kumar. I’d surely wanna see AK don a director’s hat a lot more. As an actor he’s got endless shelf life due to his ability to be the character than just rely on mannerisms & antics.
I dont think we will see Aamir as a director soon. He said he will take up directing only after he gives up acting. He has plenty of shelf-life remaining as an actor. So perhaps he will direct again later this decade or maybe next decade.
For now he has LSC, Mogul and Vikram Vedha remake lined up. Would like to see him work with Hirani again. Would also be great if he makes Mahabharata film series in the latter half of this decade.
Overall, he has lot of material and juice left to have a good decade.
Not sure I agree with this. Would like to hear from others who have lived thru some of Raj era. Raj was not only an amazing actor (who can emote so many different emotions just with his eyes, his director capabalities is something most are aware of, he had a great sense of music too, he used to create many tunes). he made couple movies which are still copied today (sangam/bobby).
Having said that, i had made a post about a year ago that aamir will be a very good director when he takes that on. he is a very hard worker, not that others are not, but aamir spends a lot of time on a film.
It’s strange but i became Raj fan after watching Mera Naam Joker, early 80s. than i revisited all of his films in a year time span.
As far as acting is concerned, not sure how one would equate aamir to Dilip, that’s like saying akshay is reminiscent of Bachchan.
As an actor Aamir may not be in Dilip Kumar league, but he is a far better actor than the mannerism prone Raj Kapoor. As a director he cant be compared, as he has directed only one film so far – TZP. The rest we will see when he turns director full time.

sometimes, some actors become very underrated based on perception. i guess same goes for anything in life.
When aamir does turn director full time (which i wish he would have 5 years ago fully), he will be very good because he is honest about his work. It’s not all about money for him.
Comparison creates problems as Raj Kapoor and Aamir have different skills with few overlaps. Both are unique in their era.
On Film making – I think Raj Kapoor was a risk taking filmmaker. Same with Guru Dutt. Aamir not so much but still showed sporadic trait and doesn’t have a body of work as director to be compared. Aamir will not don Director’s hat. He is a good actor and his stardom is because of acting and picking right films.
Aamir has great script sense that touches every soul. This is his No 1 asset. He is not a script writer or person with ideas which in some way limits his craft and hence his low volume. But when he gets a right story/story, he can convert it into a perfect script via his creative inputs.
I think new stars will come this decade. I also think the last 5 years of the decade is more important in terms of remembrance. Can’t see Aamir or Akshay being a top draw during 2025-2030. I can only pray that they remain in good health.
My money will be on Hrithik in this decade. I hope he does that 6-7 movies needed.
Aamir is not a script writer or story writer but there is a director inside him. The reason for his low volume is his involvement with all aspects of film-making, which takes time. That is main reason why he has delivered so many good films. His production house has made 10 films or so and is yet to deliver a bad film under his supervision. It will be a disappointment if he does not turn a full-time director producer once his acting shelf-life as a lead actor is gone. Films are his passion and he is going to be around in some capacity or not for the next 2 decades.
I seriously hope Aamir goes forward with his mega plans of Mahabharata film series from the middle of this decade. Its a long term project and an ideal one for him to act, produce and direct some of it. Everything has gone silent on that front, but I hope he revives his plans in due time.

All comparison with Raj are silly. Raj had started directing his first film when he was 22/23. Started directing his second film at age 23/24 (Barsaat, musical hit film). around this age, aamir debuted at main lead in QSQT. Raj had full knowledge/control of films at around age 25, not at 50.

History always remembers the huge blockbusters, highest grossers & record breaking hits. 4 puny small time 1-1.5 cr footfall hits can never match the might of a big time 3cr+ footfall blockbuster. Its the reason why AB & Dharmendra are far bigger stars than Shatrughan & Jitendra. Its the reason why the 90’s is always remembered for the Hahk’s, DDLJ’s, RH’s & Borders & not the small time Govinda or Khiladi hits. Its the precise reason why the Khans, Sunny Deol or or even HR carries a bigger legacy in stardom &, popularity than Govinda, Akshay or Ajay. Its high time Akshay delivers a couple of real biggies like Dabangg, Dangal, TZH or War to justify his stardom!
I think its a matter of time before Akshay gets a 300 cr grosser. Sooryavanshi or Prithviraj may just do the trick. He is a star who does not get big films and does what he gets. Once he gets a biggie or two, the stakes will rise and his volume may decrease.

#GoodNewwz is trending quite well at the BO, film is bound to enter ₹ 200 cr club by the the end of its 4th week. Film has turned out to be #AkshayKumar career BIGGEST BLOCKBUSTER , being a concept & multiplex oriented film, collection of Good Newwz is indeed very special.
Two entities have attempted to go big in 2020-21 and their challengers are set for a showdown.
1. NGE – Sajid Nadiadwala, who sits on amazing list of successes in 2019 has announced his next on Christmas 2020 (Bachchan Pandey), Eid 2021 (Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali) and Christmas 2021 (Kick 2).
Who is the clear challenger?
YRF. They are set to announce a series of movies to celebrate their 25 years with movies each with Akshay, Hrithik, Ranveer and Ranbir very very soon.
2. Akshay – He ruled 2019. Eid, Diwali and Christmas 2020 is booked. His 2021 lineup will make 2019 look smaller.
Who is the clear challenger?
Salman. He is set to clash on Eid 2020. He has one more film due in 2020, a quickie most probably with Barjatya. He has booked Eid and Christmas in 2021, all massy films.
YRF are already working with Ranbir and Ranveer with unreleased films. They have plans to do another Akshay film but only after Prithviraj. Hrithik and SRK have no films in their hands. And War sequel is not happening so soon.
What is Akshay’s lineup in 2021? He has Bell Buttom on Republic Day 2021 and probably Prithviraj getting pushed to Independence Day 2021.
Nadiadwala is trying is go big banking on Salman. But it may backfire given Salman’s current run.
Akshay’s new cap is around 190 cr – 2.0, Mission Mangal, HF4 and Good Newzz. He still is on a lookout for a 300 cr nett film.
YRF will make announcements, just wait. They have recently offered a 2 hero historical project to Hrithik and Akshay. Fingers crossed. And one more each with Ranbir and Ranveer is in the pipeline.
Nadiadwala has got Salman’s date on a platter at a reduced price (lesser than Race 3 which released in 2018). They have moved very smart. Barjatya’s too might get Salman again at his reduced fee (lesser than Race 3 which released in 2018).
300 Cr movie is not exactly what Akshay is after barring Prithviraj. His new cap of 190-200 Cr is enough to keep him ahead and get a clean hit for Laxxmi Bomb, Sooryavanshi and Bachchan Pandey. 300 Cr movie target is only for movies that has a budget of over 100 Cr like Prithviraj. Prithviraj is set for Diwali release and has highest budget among all hindi movie in production (Budget of Brahmastra was cut short by 25 Cr after Kalank tanked). Prithviraj is the only big budget non-Akki kind of movie. No postponement rumour so far but with VFX and post production work, one never knows. Success of Tanhaji has made Prithviraj super hot now.
Sooryavanshi will get to that cap or may do a bit more. Laxmmi Bomb and BP will struggle to get there with the direct clashes.
Reduced price or not, Salman’s lineup already looks stale including the Barjatya film. Akshay’s lineup is better. And as I said, if Akshay starts working in big movies (that is if he finally start to get them) his volume will automatically decrease.
LSC is a remake of Forrest Gump
BP is a remake of Veeram.
It’s no brainer that LSC will be a class affair while BP is.more of single screen low brow affair.
I can get both will do well. Will a Forrest Gump remake be as good as a Dangal in interiors in India? Let’s see. In this clash only BP will benefit. Every multiplex screen it gets will be at LSC expense. So LSC has to move out.
I am with Jay on this. Laxmi Bomb will beat Radhe but will find it difficult to get to 190-200 cr. Whereas LSC will also beat BP but may find it difficult to do 300 cr.
Laxxmibomb should wallop Radhe. Salman’s future releases all have BIG question marks. He is purely relying on 1st 3 days to give over 50% of collections. He’s reducing the impact of his initial with these underperformers/flops/disasters. The Eid clash might actually be one where Akshay loses the 1st day but wins the weekend. After that I’m sure content will win.
I personally don’t think the Xmas clash will happen in end. Let’s see. Even if it does there is only 1 likely winner.
“Will a Forrest Gump remake be as good as a Dangal in interiors in India?” ~ Dangal never did that well in the interiors in the first place. Such was the craze and appreciation for this class appealing film that A1 and A centers alone were predominantly enough for the film to cross 3.5 Cr pan India footfall. That’s a similar trajectory to a 3 Idiots which too was nothing more than a HIT in the B/C centers. If at all there’s a film that carries 3 Idiots and Dangal kind of appreciation in the B/C centers along with the A1/A centers, it would reach Bahubali or HAHK levels.
Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj just got more exciting. PeepingMoon.com sources reveal that joining the Bollywood superstar, actor Sanjay Dutt and beauty pageant winner Manushi Chillar who makes her debut in this YRF biopic, are going to be Sonu Sood and Ashutosh Rana as supporting cast.
Akshay, of course, plays the titular role in this Chandraprakash Dwivedi directorial and Manushi will be his love interest Sanyukta. Dutt is playing Kaka Kanha who was Prithviraj’s uncle and a great warrior himself who was largely instrumental in the latter’s early military successes.
According to sources, Sonu who was last seen as the baddie to Ranveer Singh’s cop in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba has been cast in the biographical drama to play the positive character of Chand Bardai who was a court poet and helped Prithviraj kill Muhammad Ghori. Kesari and Laal Kaptaan fame Manav Vij has been finalized to play the antagonist Ghori, a ruler of the Muslim Ghurid dynasty who led the Islamic Conquest of Hindustan. Sonu and Manav are said to have already started shooting in Mumbai.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has show another jump to collect around 15.50-16 crore nett as per early estimates. Its a huge number for Wednesday and has been aided by Makar Sankrati across Hindi belts and especially Gujarat / Saurashtra which seems to have had another 2 crore nett day on Wednesday.
The total collections have gone to 104 crore nett in six days and these numbers are coming with low business in North India and East India. The whole of North India is hardly contributing 20% when Delhi / UP alone has a bigger than 20% contribution when all is normal. The film is extraordinary in Mumbai circuit and will clock up a 50 crore nett plus number in the circuit in week one and the way it is going the film could even do 100 crore nett in the circuit though you would expect the film to feel the heat at some point.
The collections on day six in Mumbai circuit are better than day one and this is from a good start in this circuit on day one. The holiday factor will be less on day seven though some centres in mass circuits may still get some benefit.
The other release Chhapaak is flat again with collections in the 2-2.25 crore nett range and the six day total will be around 24.50 crore nett. The film is not even gaining much at the bigger multiplexes. It was flat on Lohri in places like Delhi and Chandigarh and both these centers are dominated by high end multiplexes.
Tanhaji looks like
1st week 115Cr+
2nd week expect at least 50Cr
If it’s at 165Cr+ it might sneak into 200Cr. BOI will be touch and go as currently only 3Cr behind but by Monday after some magical events probably lose some crores.
Apart from being a good movies, both URI then and Tanhaji now also benefited from pro-government sentiments.
The protests against CAA might have some merit but the stand by citizens for CAA too needs to be recognised even though latter is not shouting in their support.
Key is Friday number. Every single weekday number so far has had some holiday benefits. Chhapaak will lose screens and would expect Tanhaji to be stable. If Friday number delivers double digits then I think 200Cr will be easy.
At moment I have 7Cr Friday and 35Cr 2nd weekend target. But if Friday is double digits then 2nd weekend is likely to be closer to 50Cr.
Every day so far it’s outperforms I feel but Friday is first day of no opening, weekend, holiday noise.
More like 7/12/15. If 10Cr Friday it will go big on Sat/Sun. This movie may have 1 more 20Cr+ day in it on 2nd Sunday.
But my basic rule of thumb is if movie is hated or loved all bets are off on predictions. Even after watching BB2 and seeing 1st day collections it’s hard to put a number on lifetime let alone predict 505Cr.
As Friday is 10Cr, Tanhaji 2nd weekend will go bonkers at over 40Cr and close to 50Cr. 20Cr Sunday is possible and 200Cr is easily happening on producer total. Basically 10 days flat of double digits is something very few films do.
Some people like to talk crap about akshay but there’s no denying that akshay is now like a CD account for the industry where industry knows they’ll get safe 7% return on the investment. In most cases it’s more.

On the same day, many guessed this, it was so obvious. When Within same hour, iran govt said it happened due to technical snag. and everybody wondered they didnt even wait for black box.
This news came during same hours when iran did missile attack on usa military area.
How come they were so sure ? Also, first video had shown plane falling like fireball, that indicates something major happened in the air, either a bomb or missile caused it.

This happened close to airport in iran just after flight took off. No way usa can reach there, they were fighting in iraq. This happened within same hour, iran missiles hit usa base in iraq.
Also, defensive statement came from iran within the same hour flight took off which is very unusual.
All of these clearly shows iran was on backfoot and trying to cover up. It is clearly them.

Just Booked Tanhaji for tomorrow, unfortunately no 3D or imax shows here.
Actually, due to 3 big south movie release Tanhaji received just 4 shows and chhapak just 3 shows in whole city.
And good newzz is completely taken off inspite of shows running with good capacity.
Dabangg3 enjoyed 3 weeks of big holiday run with huge capacity to no avail.
Disappointing that 5 new big releasing in overseas will impact each other big time. while Good newzz also deserves decent shows.

195(+-2) looks certain as per BOI numbers, 200(+-2) by taran and others.
Tanhaji buzz will take over completely from eve onwards. There is just so much competition this week with 2 big bollywood and 3 big south releases.
And all of these movies have been received in decent(chappak, darbar) to excellent(Tanhaji) range, not sure of 2 other south movie reception but looking good. Chances of good newzz making to 200 club is almost gone now with already 70% reduced screens this week.
Maharastra/pune/gujarat is taken over completely by tanaji and delhi/up chappak n tanhaji both are doing good. South is all gone to local releases.

Those all new one are from ndtv and indian express. They clearly wrote ideological problems in film. Even anupama chopra said movie should have been more secular. Lol
We always knew their opinion before release. Still, they have give 2.5 to 3 stars is big thing. Others have given 4-5 stars.
Bms rating is hight above 90+ After 10k+ votes. Which is real audience. Lets see if it sustains above 90+ as more audience watch it.

If it stays above 90+. It will be fourth movie after baahubali2, dangal and uri.

If it’s that good than we’re looking at 300+ crore easily. One good thing about this movie is that it’s short, that’s how movies should be unless you’re like old time directors who can keep the audiences glued for 3 hours.
We may be looking at something special if audiences catches on to it like bahubali 1/2.

Even 200Cr movies what maybe 13 or 14 movies only URI and 3 Idiots opened less than 15Cr. It’s very difficult to say Tanhaji will get to 150Cr even IMO. Let’s see.

An under 5 Cr opening for Chapaak is a shocking disaster! Extremely unexpected considering Meghana Gulzar’s last was Raazi and Deepika’s coming back after 2 years. 16 Cr for Tanhaji is decent considering Ajay’s limited star appeal, although its underwhelming considering the grandeur and scale of the film. Needs to grow well to collect 150+ and entertain any hopes of 200+.

16crr for Tanhaji and 4.75crrs for Chhapaak as per BOI. Sat jump will tell where Tanhaji is heading. Could go anywhere between 150-200crrs as of now. Chhapaak at best may do 60-65crrs if wom pushes it. Else can wrap under 50crrs.

Madras Cafe was a far superior film to Talvar imo & was a box office performer in urban plexes too. In fact its one of the best of the decade in my opinion. Talvar was a glorified one sided view of a certain sequence of events which if seen as an independent film, works okay but the obvious narrative bias is evident.

Final numbers for both movies are lower. 14.5crr for Tanhaji while 4.25crr for Chhapaak. Tanhaji needs big boost today like 20crrs+ to put good lifetime total. Chhapaak exposes the so called last female super star bo pull. Not a big draw on her own. And this is after generating some buzz due to JNU visit or else the OD numbers would have been around 3crrs.

Yes AD’s never really had a fanbase among the urban metro crowd of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore & Kolkata. Its the semi metros & tier 2/3 audience of Nagpur, Rajkot, Jaipur etc that most of his films bank on, be it Singham or the Golmaal’s. Same for Tanaji esp in tge Maharashtra interiors.

A Devgan original movie not a sequel like Golmaal doing 300crrs? AD would be very happy if this scores between 150-200crrs. AD is no khan or even veer in stardom. Who would have thought a hyper nationalist’ and ‘Saffronized’ film will get unnanimous unanimous praise and glowing review over Luteyens and Liberal’s Fav Chhapaak. Even in english media. That shows how good the Tanaji is and how pretentious Chhapaak is.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior is set to emerge a HIT film as it shows a huge turnaround on Saturday in key areas. The film has shown a huge jump in Delhi NCR and East Punjab with collections doubling from the previous day in many centres. Both circuits could be 70-80% up from Friday which is a very good sign for the films especially as the other main area Mumbai is strong from day one.
The growth in Mumbai will be less but the film has a good chance to cross the 20 crore nett mark on day two which would mean growth of 40% plus which is very good for this type of film. It is early so collections could go even higher than 20 crore or remain a little lower like yesterday but what is there is a solid trend for the film which will mean a good run at the boxoffice. Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior should now work outside Maharashtra which was crucial with this huge jump in North but it will be the weekdays which will confirm this.
The other release Chhapaak is poor as the growth will be similar to Tanhaji – The Warrior but considering its a high end multiplex film for metros only and half the screens of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior it should be growing more.
The film could hit the 6.50 crore nett mark which is unlikely to be good enough as the first day did not come through. This sort of growth from a 6 crore nett day one could have been a different story altogether.

Having watched Tanhaji now.
I can rule out wild possibility of 300 cr. But it can scrap through 200, just like Singham did in 2011 staying in cinemas for 10-12 long week run.
-ve – lack of family entertainment value and special effect especially in first half.
+ve – Everything else, especially very well choreographed fight sequences. After all, ajay devgn is son of Action director.
That shows in all of his movies and movie selection.

This is one of the best action movie ever in indian film industry , not just bollywood.
Shivaay was very aswell in terms of action and production values to performances but one of the worst editing spoiled it.
Here, in addition to better performances, crisp editing and great dialogues,
historical character and emotional impact also works in its favor.

Overall, it is so engaging, you don’t want to blink your eye. Whatever shows on screen works except vfx created animals, which can be called good for bollywood standards but seems more like distraction.

Watched Tanhaji this evening. My review :
STORY : Run of the mill albeit the tale of bravery, sacrifice and valor would never go out of vogue. Must be added though that unlike the superficially mushy Bajirao Mastani or the comically obsessive Padmaavat, Tanhaji sticks to its guns & does not let unnecessary romance get in the way of the core narrative.
SCREENPLAY & DIRECTION : Alright for most part although there were a few scenes where the narrative cut abruptly and jumped to the next sequence without any real coordination. Well edited to keep the film tight & crisp, Ajay D seems to have learnt from the editing fiasco of Shivaay.
PERFORMANCES : Effective if not great. Ajay is his usual reliable self, Kajol in her brief presence shows everything that Priyanka & Kriti should have been in Bajirao & Panipat respectively. Saif is good, however that being said, his character is unfortunately and unnecessarily modeled on similar lines to Ranveer’s masterclass in Padmaavat and hence the lack of novelty would prevent Saif from getting the kind of appreciation his performance deserves.
ACTION / VFX : Undoubtedly the film’s USP. Very well shot, edited and choreographed for most part except when they display graphically created animals where the flaws are imminent. Barring this minor glitch, the film definitely scores in this department.
MUSIC : Completely unnecessary and serves no purpose. Even the background score is jarring to the extent where you frustratingly might miss out on a few prime dialogues.
Overall a 7/10. A good, decent worth watching film on the big screen despite its lack of novelty.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior Excellent Sunday – Chhapaak Low

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has recorded excellent collections on Sunday with 25-26 crore nett as per early estimates which will mean a 60 crore nett weekend for the film. The growth is superb on Sunday with collections going up 30%. It makes it even better that the competition and holdover releases have not grown much on Sunday.
The film has scored very good numbers in Mumbai circuit and good numbers in CP Berar and Nizam / Andhra. The other circuits have not done as well but they can make ground over the weekdays as the growth has been excellent on Saturday and Sunday. There was also be the benefit of minor holidays in some circuit.
The film has done around 27 crore nett in Mumbai which is a big weeeknd number and its this circuit where the film can go on a very strong run and hit a very big number. Delhi / UP is just 9 crore nett apprx and here it will have to have a Monday close to the first day number which is possible.
Chhapaak has fared poorly with a 7-7.50 crore nett Sunday which means a weekend of 18 crore nett plus. The weekend numbers were never going to be much but these films are not about the weekend number but the weekend trend which is not good. When a film like Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior shows better trending than a concept film like Chhapaak then you know that film is in trouble.
This film will also get some benefit from the minor holidays but after that there will be struggle and its unlikely to sustain in the long run.

Looks like they will clash. BP team seems adamant about that date. But 3 biggies in a span of 2 weeks is a race condition to get screens. If it happens, then LSC will find it difficult to cross 300 cr IMO. Its a low to medium budget film, so maybe 250 cr would be enough for a hit/superhit tag.

Dangal did almost 200 cr in first week and 100+ cr in second week. Its not easy to repeat that with multiple competition and less number of screens. 400 cr for LSC is really difficult.
As I said, 300 cr may also be tough even with good WOM. Of course, if the movie turns out to be as good as PK or Dangal then all this math goes for a toss and the lifetime business becomes unpredictable.

It is now evident that holidays are ‘quite’ important and give a boost of 20-25 Cr. In case of superb season like what War got –
2 National Holidays + Weekend (Fri-Sun) + Additional day with enhanced ticket rate, a bonanza of 30-35 Cr comes.
A Tanhaji releasing on War kind of date would have crossed 100 Cr in 3 days. Now it will take 6 days.
A War releasing on Tanhaji kind of non-holiday date would have struggled to cross 300 Cr and might not have become HGOTY.
Kabeer Singh releasing on War kid of dates would have dones 350 Cr+
Rare movies like Baahubahi 2 / Avengers End Game defy the holidays. But the fact remains that lot of movies do benefit if they are good. May be BB2 would have netted 50Cr more.

First the clash. But still the 31 Dec-1 Jan made it even stevens for 2 biggies.
Now with Lele coming on 1st Jan, the holiday advantage is lost as screens would get divided, esp for the movie which will be best among the three.

Holiday dates are overhyped and I do not see any addition of 20-25 Cr in the final tally. Yes on the concerned date the collections are indeed escalated by 40-50% but the subsequent days of non holidays, the drop is always greater than normal that balances things out to a great extent. In the final run it hardly makes a difference of 10% at max, that too if its more than one major holiday in the week like War received. That being said, War was hit badly by Syeraa in AP/Nizam circuit and by Joker in the A1 metropolitan centers and perhaps with a solo release on a regular working week, it might still have had the 290-300 Cr nett figure it ultimately landed up with. All these stats and figures about holidays and clashes are mere speculations. Ultimately, a good well received film will get the screens and run well irrespective of competition or holidays. Bahubali 1 ran for over 10 weeks in Hindi despite Bajrangi releasing just the week after which clearly puts all these theories to rest. As for Tanhaji, even with a big holiday release, it would never have done >75 Cr over the weekend as Ajay simply lacks the following among the metropolitan centers. And a 75+ weekend total would have led to a greater % drop on Monday as opposed to what it is now, so in the final tally it would basically be even stevens.

Eid 2021 is another bonanza kind of date. Thursday + 3 day weekend. Enhanced ticket rates by 20% and voila additional 25 Cr in the kitty if a solo release.
No wonder Salman whose stardom is tipped on openings, latched on to it even without a script.
I will not be surprised if a big Dharma / YRF / UTV comes on that day.

Tanhji – The Unsung Warrior has emerged a HIT film and held very well on Monday with collections sure to cross the 10 crore nett mark. The fall is pretty minimal from Monday and by the evening it may just be a 15-20% fall on an all India basis.
There will be some places which may have a fall which is hardly 0-5% by the evening. Maharashtra is super strong and could do a repeat from Friday and Delhi and East Punjab have a holiday for Lohri tomorrow which means evenings could takes these areas towards there Friday number. This means the fall will come in Central, East and South India but it will be in the 25-30% region as Friday was weak in these parts.
The final numbers for Monday could even get in the 11-12 crore nett but that will depend how it collects in the evening. If it does get here it should remain around these levels or even more for the next two days which could mean a 100 crore nett apprx first week number but it remains to be seen where the film finishes on Monday.
The other release Chhapaak is struggling with a far bigger drop than Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior despite being a concept film with numbers likely to finish in the 2.5-3 crore nett range depending on the evenings. it can also hold around these marks till Thursday but even then the total will not be much.

Tanhaji have more footfalls because it is creating havoc in single screens especially of maharastra. Also, Golmaal3 was very popular in single screens of maharastra and gujarat.
Good newzz ticket rates on holiday were less than sunday, but occupancy was higher. Take any source, addatoday or bollytrick or sumit kadel. This was mentioned by everyone.
While khans movie like to keep weekend ticket rates for 4-6 days depending on holidays, here that wasnt the case. In monday itself, ticket rates were down by 30% and wednesday it was higher but still 15-20% lower than sunday.

Distributors usually try to arm twist exhibitors during event movies releasing during holidays. So exhibitors have no choice but to increase the tix price to cater to those demands.

13 cr for AD and crash for Deepika
Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has roared on Monday to collect in the 12-13 crore nett range. The film was fantastic in evening shows across the country which pushed the collections to a high level and the film also put Chhapaak in its place on Monday by having collections which were six times more.
The collections of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior on Monday may not be as high as some other films but its one of the highest collections ever when its normal rates on Monday. Most films which have high Monday numbers keep blockbuster rates or enhance the weekday rates which is not the case here. Good Newwz late last year had slightly higher collections on Monday but the footfalls for Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior are far higher than Good Newwz. the evening collections in Delhi and Punjab were helped as its a holiday there tomorrow.
The drop came basically in mass centres of Maharashtra where it opened well on Friday and the rest of India has seen collections in the same range as day one even though multiplexes have lower ticket rates. It takes the film to around 72-73 crore nett and it now should get to 100 crore nett plus for the week at least as it will get benefit of the minor holidays over the next couple of days.
Chhapaak crashed on Monday with collections dropping more than 50% from Friday which itself was a low opening day. The film collected 2-2.25 crore nett on Monday and it could have been even worse but places like NCR and Chandigarh got benefit of the holiday on Tuesday. The film has been totally rejected by the public and will hardly benefit from the minor holidays over the next days and there will be more falls after this holiday period. The total collections after four days are 20 crore nett and the week will be 26-27 crore nett.

The fate of Chapaak proves the voice of the Silent Majority. There is nothing wrong with the film, and the issue dealt with in the movie resonates deeply with contemporary India.
However, the publicity stunt by Deepika led to countless social media #boycottChapaak threads, and they seem to have indeed derailed the BO prospects.
Bwood marketing should make a case study out of the ‘Chapaak’ disaster, and how not to be on the wrong side of The Silent Majority thought-process.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior continues it excellent run at the box office as it collects in the 16 crore nett range with collections going up 20% from Monday. the film has seen good growth in most areas while Gujarat / Saurashtra was extraordinary as collections went back up to Sunday levels. It was a partial holiday in parts which helped while in Gujarat / Saurashtra it would have been like a national holiday as the jump is huge.
It has to mentioned like yesterday that these numbers are coming on normal weekday rates at multiplexes which means footfalls are more than other films which would have got this sort of Tuesday in 2019. Good Newwz was a film which collected a little less on Tuesday but the footfalls of Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero are 40-45% more than that film.
This will take the Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero total to around 89-90 crore nett in five days and its pretty certain it should hit cross 100 crore nett tomorrow as its another partial holiday in parts. The week seems on course to cross 110 crore nett.
Chhapaak was flat despite the partial holiday as will collect in the 2-2.25 crore nett range. The film is going to be one of those rare films that will actually lose money joining Pagalpanti and Panipat in recent times. It wont lose as much as those films but a 5-7 crore loss looks on the cards due to the rejection of the content. The five day figures of the film will be around 22 crore nett and it could be that the lifetime of this film is less than the first two days of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior.

Aamir is in the Raj Kapoor league. Might not be the kind creating frenzy via looks, slo-mo mannerisms or dialogue delivery like a Bachchan, Salman or Hrithik, but has exceptional scripting & screenplay sense coupled with an ability to live & breathe every character he plays, something very reminiscent of Raj Kapoor & Dilip Kumar. I’d surely wanna see AK don a director’s hat a lot more. As an actor he’s got endless shelf life due to his ability to be the character than just rely on mannerisms & antics.

I dont think we will see Aamir as a director soon. He said he will take up directing only after he gives up acting. He has plenty of shelf-life remaining as an actor. So perhaps he will direct again later this decade or maybe next decade.
For now he has LSC, Mogul and Vikram Vedha remake lined up. Would like to see him work with Hirani again. Would also be great if he makes Mahabharata film series in the latter half of this decade.
Overall, he has lot of material and juice left to have a good decade.

Not sure I agree with this. Would like to hear from others who have lived thru some of Raj era. Raj was not only an amazing actor (who can emote so many different emotions just with his eyes, his director capabalities is something most are aware of, he had a great sense of music too, he used to create many tunes). he made couple movies which are still copied today (sangam/bobby).
Having said that, i had made a post about a year ago that aamir will be a very good director when he takes that on. he is a very hard worker, not that others are not, but aamir spends a lot of time on a film.
It’s strange but i became Raj fan after watching Mera Naam Joker, early 80s. than i revisited all of his films in a year time span.
As far as acting is concerned, not sure how one would equate aamir to Dilip, that’s like saying akshay is reminiscent of Bachchan.

As an actor Aamir may not be in Dilip Kumar league, but he is a far better actor than the mannerism prone Raj Kapoor. As a director he cant be compared, as he has directed only one film so far – TZP. The rest we will see when he turns director full time.

sometimes, some actors become very underrated based on perception. i guess same goes for anything in life.
When aamir does turn director full time (which i wish he would have 5 years ago fully), he will be very good because he is honest about his work. It’s not all about money for him.

Comparison creates problems as Raj Kapoor and Aamir have different skills with few overlaps. Both are unique in their era.
On Film making – I think Raj Kapoor was a risk taking filmmaker. Same with Guru Dutt. Aamir not so much but still showed sporadic trait and doesn’t have a body of work as director to be compared. Aamir will not don Director’s hat. He is a good actor and his stardom is because of acting and picking right films.
Aamir has great script sense that touches every soul. This is his No 1 asset. He is not a script writer or person with ideas which in some way limits his craft and hence his low volume. But when he gets a right story/story, he can convert it into a perfect script via his creative inputs.
I think new stars will come this decade. I also think the last 5 years of the decade is more important in terms of remembrance. Can’t see Aamir or Akshay being a top draw during 2025-2030. I can only pray that they remain in good health.
My money will be on Hrithik in this decade. I hope he does that 6-7 movies needed.

Aamir is not a script writer or story writer but there is a director inside him. The reason for his low volume is his involvement with all aspects of film-making, which takes time. That is main reason why he has delivered so many good films. His production house has made 10 films or so and is yet to deliver a bad film under his supervision. It will be a disappointment if he does not turn a full-time director producer once his acting shelf-life as a lead actor is gone. Films are his passion and he is going to be around in some capacity or not for the next 2 decades.

I seriously hope Aamir goes forward with his mega plans of Mahabharata film series from the middle of this decade. Its a long term project and an ideal one for him to act, produce and direct some of it. Everything has gone silent on that front, but I hope he revives his plans in due time.

I still say he should have taken full time direction 5 years ago, not another 5 years from now.
All comparison with Raj are silly. Raj had started directing his first film when he was 22/23. Started directing his second film at age 23/24 (Barsaat, musical hit film). around this age, aamir debuted at main lead in QSQT. Raj had full knowledge/control of films at around age 25, not at 50.
Barsaat, Awara, Shree 420, Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Prem Rog, Ram teri Ganga Meli
Except for couple films, each one were a gem and trend setter in their own right which paved way for future films.
Sorry, i get little defensive when it comes to Raj Kapoor, dilip kumar, bachchan, rafi, desai and few others. They made me fall in love with hindi films.

History always remembers the huge blockbusters, highest grossers & record breaking hits. 4 puny small time 1-1.5 cr footfall hits can never match the might of a big time 3cr+ footfall blockbuster. Its the reason why AB & Dharmendra are far bigger stars than Shatrughan & Jitendra. Its the reason why the 90’s is always remembered for the Hahk’s, DDLJ’s, RH’s & Borders & not the small time Govinda or Khiladi hits. Its the precise reason why the Khans, Sunny Deol or or even HR carries a bigger legacy in stardom &, popularity than Govinda, Akshay or Ajay. Its high time Akshay delivers a couple of real biggies like Dabangg, Dangal, TZH or War to justify his stardom!

I think its a matter of time before Akshay gets a 300 cr grosser. Sooryavanshi or Prithviraj may just do the trick. He is a star who does not get big films and does what he gets. Once he gets a biggie or two, the stakes will rise and his volume may decrease.
Sooryavanshi and Laxxmi Bomb are confirmed for this year. There are rumors that Prithviraj may release only in 2021 and Bachcan Pandey may get shelved.

Welcome, Singh is King, Tees Maar Khan, Rowdy Rathore, HF films, Kesari, 2.0, Gold were all big films either with commercially successful directors or made on a large canvas. Yet we have a scenario where even a less popular star like Ajay D would deliver a bigger grosser in Tanhaji than Kesari.

Two entities have attempted to go big in 2020-21 and their challengers are set for a showdown.
1. NGE – Sajid Nadiadwala, who sits on amazing list of successes in 2019 has announced his next on Christmas 2020 (Bachchan Pandey), Eid 2021 (Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali) and Christmas 2021 (Kick 2).
Who is the clear challenger?
YRF. They are set to announce a series of movies to celebrate their 25 years with movies each with Akshay, Hrithik, Ranveer and Ranbir very very soon.
2. Akshay – He ruled 2019. Eid, Diwali and Christmas 2020 is booked. His 2021 lineup will make 2019 look smaller.
Who is the clear challenger?
Salman. He is set to clash on Eid 2020. He has one more film due in 2020, a quickie most probably with Barjatya. He has booked Eid and Christmas in 2021, all massy films.

Reality Check:
YRF are already working with Ranbir and Ranveer with unreleased films. They have plans to do another Akshay film but only after Prithviraj. Hrithik and SRK have no films in their hands. And War sequel is not happening so soon.
What is Akshay’s lineup in 2021? He has Bell Buttom on Republic Day 2021 and probably Prithviraj getting pushed to Independence Day 2021.
Nadiadwala is trying is go big banking on Salman. But it may backfire given Salman’s current run.
Akshay’s new cap is around 190 cr – 2.0, Mission Mangal, HF4 and Good Newzz. He still is on a lookout for a 300 cr nett film.

YRF will make announcements, just wait. They have recently offered a 2 hero historical project to Hrithik and Akshay. Fingers crossed. And one more each with Ranbir and Ranveer is in the pipeline.
Nadiadwala has got Salman’s date on a platter at a reduced price (lesser than Race 3 which released in 2018). They have moved very smart. Barjatya’s too might get Salman again at his reduced fee (lesser than Race 3 which released in 2018).
300 Cr movie is not exactly what Akshay is after barring Prithviraj. His new cap of 190-200 Cr is enough to keep him ahead and get a clean hit for Laxxmi Bomb, Sooryavanshi and Bachchan Pandey. 300 Cr movie target is only for movies that has a budget of over 100 Cr like Prithviraj. Prithviraj is set for Diwali release and has highest budget among all hindi movie in production (Budget of Brahmastra was cut short by 25 Cr after Kalank tanked). Prithviraj is the only big budget non-Akki kind of movie. No postponement rumour so far but with VFX and post production work, one never knows. Success of Tanhaji has made Prithviraj super hot now.

Reduced price or not, Salman’s lineup already looks stale including the Barjatya film. Akshay’s lineup is better. And as I said, if Akshay starts working in big movies (that is if he finally start to get them) his volume will automatically decrease.

BP is a remake of Veeram.
It’s no brainer that LSC will be a class affair while BP is.more of single screen low brow affair.
I can get both will do well. Will a Forrest Gump remake be as good as a Dangal in interiors in India? Let’s see. In this clash only BP will benefit. Every multiplex screen it gets will be at LSC expense. So LSC has to move out.

Laxxmibomb should wallop Radhe. Salman’s future releases all have BIG question marks. He is purely relying on 1st 3 days to give over 50% of collections. He’s reducing the impact of his initial with these underperformers/flops/disasters. The Eid clash might actually be one where Akshay loses the 1st day but wins the weekend. After that I’m sure content will win.
I personally don’t think the Xmas clash will happen in end. Let’s see. Even if it does there is only 1 likely winner.

“Will a Forrest Gump remake be as good as a Dangal in interiors in India?” ~ Dangal never did that well in the interiors in the first place. Such was the craze and appreciation for this class appealing film that A1 and A centers alone were predominantly enough for the film to cross 3.5 Cr pan India footfall. That’s a similar trajectory to a 3 Idiots which too was nothing more than a HIT in the B/C centers. If at all there’s a film that carries 3 Idiots and Dangal kind of appreciation in the B/C centers along with the A1/A centers, it would reach Bahubali or HAHK levels.

Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj just got more exciting. PeepingMoon.com sources reveal that joining the Bollywood superstar, actor Sanjay Dutt and beauty pageant winner Manushi Chillar who makes her debut in this YRF biopic, are going to be Sonu Sood and Ashutosh Rana as supporting cast.
Akshay, of course, plays the titular role in this Chandraprakash Dwivedi directorial and Manushi will be his love interest Sanyukta. Dutt is playing Kaka Kanha who was Prithviraj’s uncle and a great warrior himself who was largely instrumental in the latter’s early military successes.
According to sources, Sonu who was last seen as the baddie to Ranveer Singh’s cop in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba has been cast in the biographical drama to play the positive character of Chand Bardai who was a court poet and helped Prithviraj kill Muhammad Ghori. Kesari and Laal Kaptaan fame Manav Vij has been finalized to play the antagonist Ghori, a ruler of the Muslim Ghurid dynasty who led the Islamic Conquest of Hindustan. Sonu and Manav are said to have already started shooting in Mumbai.

16 cr Wednesday !!
Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has show another jump to collect around 15.50-16 crore nett as per early estimates. Its a huge number for Wednesday and has been aided by Makar Sankrati across Hindi belts and especially Gujarat / Saurashtra which seems to have had another 2 crore nett day on Wednesday.
The total collections have gone to 104 crore nett in six days and these numbers are coming with low business in North India and East India. The whole of North India is hardly contributing 20% when Delhi / UP alone has a bigger than 20% contribution when all is normal. The film is extraordinary in Mumbai circuit and will clock up a 50 crore nett plus number in the circuit in week one and the way it is going the film could even do 100 crore nett in the circuit though you would expect the film to feel the heat at some point.
The collections on day six in Mumbai circuit are better than day one and this is from a good start in this circuit on day one. The holiday factor will be less on day seven though some centres in mass circuits may still get some benefit.
The other release Chhapaak is flat again with collections in the 2-2.25 crore nett range and the six day total will be around 24.50 crore nett. The film is not even gaining much at the bigger multiplexes. It was flat on Lohri in places like Delhi and Chandigarh and both these centers are dominated by high end multiplexes.

Key is Friday number. Every single weekday number so far has had some holiday benefits. Chhapaak will lose screens and would expect Tanhaji to be stable. If Friday number delivers double digits then I think 200Cr will be easy.
At moment I have 7Cr Friday and 35Cr 2nd weekend target. But if Friday is double digits then 2nd weekend is likely to be closer to 50Cr.
Every day so far it’s outperforms I feel but Friday is first day of no opening, weekend, holiday noise.

I thin fri/sat/sun will be more like 10/12/13. So it will be around 35 but Friday won’t be 7.

More like 7/12/15. If 10Cr Friday it will go big on Sat/Sun. This movie may have 1 more 20Cr+ day in it on 2nd Sunday.
But my basic rule of thumb is if movie is hated or loved all bets are off on predictions. Even after watching BB2 and seeing 1st day collections it’s hard to put a number on lifetime let alone predict 505Cr.

As Friday is 10Cr, Tanhaji 2nd weekend will go bonkers at over 40Cr and close to 50Cr. 20Cr Sunday is possible and 200Cr is easily happening on producer total. Basically 10 days flat of double digits is something very few films do.
