Now the need is to also ensure that this second week of January is also filled up with a good release as it may not have a huge national holiday but it is a good period of 2-3 days and more depending on when the weekend falls. There is Makar Sankrati, Lohri, Oman and Pongal falling in this week, the latter may mean competition from South films in South but last year Uri – The Surgical Strike had strong figures in South despite the competition and then went on to do close to record numbers for a Hindi film in South despite strong local films.
Tanhaji is very stable even today , set for 11-12 cr. With 119-120 cr first week, it has almost doubled its weekend collection. Good newzz also doubled its weekend though helped by holiday period. Here, it was minor holiday in parts and weekday ticket rates.
So far this has trended better than Good Newwz if we do not consider holidays.
It has also out grossed a similar genre movie Kesari by a distance and with a competition + only 7 day week. Clearly Kesari underperformed then despite being a hit due to its lower cost. It lost an opportunity to do atleast 30 Cr nett more.
TanhajiTheUnsungWarrior economics is almost same as Kesari:

Marketing cost – 15cr

Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero has had a fantastic hold on Thursday collecting in th 11-12 crore nett range. The holiday factor is over in most places, it may be there in a few centres in the Hindi belt but that will hardly add 2-3%. The film has dropped 30% from Wednesday but there were whole states having the holiday affect on Wednesday unlike a few centers on Thursday.
The film is just 20% down from the first day and that tells how strong the film is as you would pray for a 20% drop on Monday and here the film is just 20% down on Thursday. It was the crucial day on Thursday and the film has come through with flying colours.
The first week numbers of the film are the 116 crore nett and it will be the second Friday which will tell where the film will go. There will be a drop of screens which is natural after week one but the ticket rates at multiplexes will go back up and if Maharashtra maintains this pace where it has hardly dropped on day seven from the first day then it will be huge 8th day for the film. Despite these huge numbers it has not actually done that well Delhi NCR, East Punjab and West Bengal but this shows how huge Maharashtra is and Mumbai circuit will probably compete with the biggest films of all time outside Bahubali – The Conclusion.
Chhapaak crashed on Thursday with collections down 40% on Thursday to 1.25-1.50 crore nett. This basically gives the film no chance as another drop will be coming on Friday. The first week numbers will hardly be 26 crore nett and the 35 crore lifetime figure is looking tough the reach and the competition Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero covered this much in just 2 days.

No 4 Ajay Devgn – Superhit success of Tanhaji + fantastic run since last few years
No 5 Ranveer Singh – He has slipped two positions since last 6 months due to zero release and competition doing better.
No 6 – Ayushmann Khurana – The hit machine. He is all set to enter top 5 in 2020 if all goes as good as 2018-19 for him. He is now a star.
No 7 Tiger Shroff – His lineup in 2019 includes Baaghi 3 which can be his War of 2020.
No 8 Aamir Khan – The Santa will return this Christmas. Enough of 300 Cr targets.
No 9 Ranbir Kapoor – No one now remembers when Sanju released. He is in hibernation. Potentially a huge star like Aamir Khan.

Tanahji – The Unsung Hero has had a a very good first week of 116 crore nett and saw fantastic holds over the weekdays. The weeeknd business was good but it really took of over the weekdays with the help of the holiday period.
The crucial Thursday when most of the holiday period is over held up very collecting over 11 crore nett. This is the highest collection ever for an Ajay Devgn film for a Thursday. The film has a chance of going anywhere the way it has held over the weekdays and even 200 crore nett cant be ruled out if Mumbai circuit keeps at this pace.
The could challenge the likes of Dangal and Sanju in Mumbai and if it does fall short it is still likely to beat the numbers of Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The film has not done well everywhere as a lot of circuits do have low numbers like West Bengal is hardly 3.50 crore nett and East Punjab is below 7 crore nett. Delhi / UP is just 18 crore nett and this is when Mumbai has easily crossed 50 crore nett
The target for the film is probably to cross the numbers of Bajirao Mastaani as that film was also a Mumbai BLOCKBUSTER while other circuits did less. Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior is also a very similar film to Bajirao Mastaani. The collections of Tanhaji – The Unsung Hero are as follows.
Sad to see film on very important and urgent issue meeting such fate just coz of greed of Deepika.
Chhapaak is a big FLOP as it grossed under 26 crore nett in the first week. The film was doing poor business and it CRASHED on Thursday when the holiday factor went out of the equation. There are not many major films that lose money today due to revenue from satellite and television but Chhapaak will be one of those rare losers
The failure of the film is being blamed on the controversy around Deepika Padukone visits to a college in Delhi which got bad publicity and an image of a bad PR exercise but it has not failed due to that but because of the content. The film only needed 40-50 lakh footfalls to be a success or even a hit and a controversy cant stop a film getting that much footfalla if the film is genuinely good. Maybe if you needed 1 crore or more footfalls then the controversy could have been an issue. The rejection is across the board with even the high end multiplexes in metros having poor collections. Its so bad that the second Friday could be lower than the fourth Friday of a holdover release like Good Newwz. The collections of Chhapaak till date are as follows.
While the Rajkumar Hirani film has reportedly been greenlit by SRK, there is little else that seems like a sure thing. Now, however, one has learnt that SRK and Yash Raj Films could announce a project together very soon. The studio, which was founded by Yash Chopra in 1970, is celebrating its 50th year in 2020 and is expected to announce a clutch of A-list productions. One among these is likely to star Shah Rukh Khan.
According to the grapevine, it may not be Dhoom 4, the title most fans were expecting the studio to announce with SRK, but an action movie nonetheless. Word going around the corridors of YRF is that Bang Bang! and War director Siddharth Anand could be the lucky man to land the gig. After the massive success of his recent Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff actioner, boss man Aditya Chopra is believed to have entrusted Siddharth with the Shah Rukh-starrer, which is expected to be a slick globetrotting action adventure.
I hope everything works out and God gives you strength.
As I’ve said many times on this blog before, life is to short, live the moment. it’s very easy to hate in today environment, but find a way to love and live.
Again, Z, really grateful for your wishes. There isn’t any hate at all; if at all that was the case, neither you nor I would be here commenting.
I have differences, and have no hate – hate gives me neither money; not peace of mind – all it gives me is pieces.
I differ with you on principles, and I differ with you on so many things, but you, Tony, and whoever have more commonalities than differences with me.’
So, am as thankful to you as anyone else –
AB sits below a portrait of Gandhi slurping a cup of ‘Modi’ chai on a saucer plate and is asked by Rahim Chacha who watches out for him and Vijay asks him – SADAK KYA PETER KA BAAP KA HAI…
What is Peter’s religion, or Rahim’s or Vijay’s? Everyone knows.

“She is the female Rajkapoor in the making.” ~ Ouch! The legend might just be cringing in his grave. In hindsight, yeah perhaps she is when she’s playing an addict, doper or a psychotic lisper trying desperate to seem convincing as that’s something that comes naturally to her.
I think she is moulding her career like RK with a clear intent towards direction and also picking subjects which are different. NEVER said that she is already. Can she reach those heights – cannot say but don’t think any other actress has abilities and will power like her.
Yes, and that in itself is where the problem is. She’s not. Not even close. Just because one is an actor and directs, doesn’t mean they’ll be like Raj.
Dev Anad, Manoj Kumar, Guru Dutt, Firoz Khan and couple other were also actor/director, but none came even close.
Pls never ever compare anyone with Raj Kapoor.
It was done for Aamir who has hardly given even 3 movies as director and was still compared to the great, Which was wrong.
I just played kinda devil’s advocate here to prove my point.
#Chhapaak 2nd Fri- many shows are getting cancelled because of no audience. It has never happened with a Deepika Padukone starrer no matter how bad the film is. Today’s collection will come in lakhs, its a bigger DISASTER than #FindingFanny & #LafangeyParindey .SHOCKING but true
Watched The Sky is Pink last night. What a nice little movie. This movie truly gave me lump in my throat in few scenes. I guess being a father of 4 kids made it more emotional for me than it probably is. Everyone played their part very well, nothing over dramatic.
No novelty. Repetitive. Will need to have a USP that can distinguish it from the hoards of period dramas being made today. Tanhaji got the action/visuals and editing right. Let’s see what the makers of Prithviraj have in store. That being said, I wish someone goes further back into history beyond the Marathas, Mughals and Rajputs and actually attempts narrating the tales of Chandragupt Maurya and Chanakya someday.
Akshay doesnt look like ideal choice. Prithviraj died at 26 and romance happened in his early 20s. Akshay cant look like this young. Though, they need superstar for such big budge novie is understood.
Other than ranveer, no one else can pull this role looking this young. Though, that will give us another bajirao mastani and dont wanna see him doing same stuff.
And just when we thought that @deepikapadukone couldn’t mock Lakshmi anymore through her PR stunts in JNU she comes up with tick tok challenge on acid attack victims. Gross. pic.twitter.com/077Uz7hcEg
Can’t comprehend what’s with her nowadays. If at all anything, she came across as one of the rare sensible one’s in b town till Chhapaak & JNU happened!
And what about the truck driver and his sub-ordinate, are they not injured? No one covering them or talking about them. Disgusted , are they not people?
Shabana and javed are not victims. Their driver hit the truck from behind.
I understand that we are on different sides. But the media taking pictures of Shabana with her face broken and lying on the street is dis-tasteful, any which way. It needs to be denounced ANY which side one belongs. I am against her principally– especially she being the person who celebrated her birthday by having a cake designed as a slum and cutting it to show-case her social work.
But she’s a great artist; she’s a great actor, above all, someone who, somewhere, for some all the time, for some in fleeting moments, let us appreciate the beautiful form of cinema.
I hope she recovers well; and may God be with her in this recovery.
I get your points but we have to take things as they are. It’s like if i immediately jumped on why did Modi tweeted about shabana and not the driver?
Come on, we know better than this. This is how world operates no matter which side of the fence you’re on.
Tanahji – The Unsung Warrior saw huge growth on saturday of around 60% as it collected 15.50 crore nett which takes it business to 141 crore nett in nine days. This Satuday growth means it is crusing to the 200 crore nett mark and the biggest NETT grosser of Ajay Devgn.
The film continues its insane run in Maharashtra and is going to be the second highest grossing film in the state after Bahubali – The Conclusion and will beat the local Marathi film Sairat. The film is creating history in Mumbai circuit and is also heading to be the highest NETT grosser ever in the circuit after Bahubali – The Conclusion and this is despite Gujarat / Saurashtra not being huge.
Its a totally different story in the North and East where in Delhi / UP, East Punjab and West Bengal it will not even be in the top 50 films of all time. Its unlikely there has been such a lopsided major Hindi grosser in history where the verdicts in different circuits range from ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER (Mumbai) to FLOP (West Bengal). The collections of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior are as follows.
The recent trending of histrocials like Tanhaji suggests that it does well in the region from where the characters come from. Goes on to show the over importance of regional identity and I don’t care much elsewhere.
Tanhaji flopping in West Bengal and not doing so well in North but still doing a superhit business overall. Amazing.
West Bengal seem to be independent in their likes and dislikes. Mardaani 2 managed to cover the distance largely because of Rani’s popularity in West Bengal.
In any case, you’d think that the rest of the country would wonder what the hoo-ha is about Tanhaji and go see it anyway, but apparently not.
In one scene, Tanhaji (Ajay Devgn) tells a gathering of Hindus who were loyal to the Mughals, “khul ke Jai Shri Ram bhi nahi bol sakte (can't even chant Jai Shri Ram openly).”

Saif Ali Khan says- “There was no concept of India till the British came”
Is that why his family, which ruled Bhopal, begged Jinnah to include their entire kingdom in Pakistan in 1947 ?
Is that why his great grandfather, the Nawab of Bhopal, called Hindus “untrustworthy”?
August 2 1947.
Saif Ali Khan’s great grandfather, Nawab of Bhopal wrote a letter to Jinnah.
He clearly states
1.He is staunch supporter of Pakistan. He wants to merge Bhopal in Pakistan. Hindus are untrustworthy
2. But Bhopal is 80% Hindu surrounded by India. He was cut off
3. Nawab of Bhopal says Hindus are intimidating him to join India. But he knows Pakistan has no means of helping him.
But he wants to know how much Pakistan can help him.
4.He says he would never sign and join India, come what may. He would continue to serve Pakistan and Islam!
In other words, Saif Ali Khan’s family tried everything in their power to merge Bhopal in Pakistan.
But as Bhopal was in the center of India, neither Jinnah nor Nawab had military means to resist India.
Had Bhopal been a frontier kingdom, it would have been a part of Pakistan!

1/n History buff #SaifAliKhan has got it completely wrong. @anupamachopra u may like to pass on this thread to him where I fix his misconceptions.
He says “concept of India” didn’t exist before British but evidences state otherwise. Let me first quote Manusmriti. Read on 👇🏼 https://t.co/tooVGBpFEy
I was trying to find the clip where Saifu calls Taimur a ” little violent” ..and that it is what is needed to be a conqueror.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior had a huge second Sunday collecting around 21 crore nett which is a 35% jump from Saturday. It takes the second weekend to a huge 46 crore nett with strong growth on Saturday and Sunday. The collections in Maharashtra and Gujarat were extraordinary on Sunday.
Maharashtra is seeing collections that have never been see outside Bahubali – The Conclusion. A city like Nasik is already at 2.50 crore. Its the same story in Sholapur, Kohlapur, Aurangabad, Latur etc as all records for outright Hindi films. A metro like Pune will reach 20 crore nett in a couple of days and that is from just 40 odd cinemas.
Basically the collections in just Pune alone will be more than the all India collections of the competition Chhapaak over the second weekend. Not only that it could be the lifetime figures in Pune could more than the Chhapak all India lifetime numbers.
This takes the film to 200 crore nett and it is certain to be the 19th Hindi film to cross 200 crore nett and the second for Ajay Devgn. It is also certain to be the highest grosser of Ajay Devgn though footfalls look like remaining below Golmaal Again.
Astonishing. First Sunday was 25.5crrs. 21crrs 2nd Sunday is just magnificent. 200crrs is done and locked. And if it holds well next weekend against Street Dancer then may hit 225crrs as well. But for that we will have to wait.
This might even challenge the lifetime of URI the way its going. Now this is exactly how last year’s KESARI was supposed to trend and perform in Delhi/Punjab belt the way Tanhaji is running riot in Maharashtra. However, inferior film that Kesari ended up being, all that Akshay fanboys were left with were excuses 😛
Yes because Kesari was a wonderful movie. No one could have done it better. Seems the story was not completely a novelty for its target audience. They knew it via previous movies etc. For the rest it was new and likeable. But to get a trending like Tanhaji, one need to love it. Seems the ‘trying to please mostly Maratha’ politics of Tanhaji touched the cord more than the ‘trying to please all’ politics of Kesari.
Please all? Kesari was an editing disaster which dragged the entire movie down to near mediocre levels, somewhat saved by its wonderful cinematography. Kesari was exactly about Sikh pride as Tanhaji is about maratha pride with historical facts that were completely distorted unlike Tanaji. If only the screenplay would have been less snoozeworthy & lackluster it might perhaps have performed better. Yet i can easily vouch no period drama in Hindi cinema comes anywhere close to Tanhaji in the last 20 years. Its the kind of movie that puts Bhansali’s silly Bajirao loverboy Mastani to shame.
Goes to show how horribly wrong the approach of YRF was to ToH. The best historicals have had the right dose and combination of mythology, masala, patriotism etc. Even fantasy historicals such as Bahubali, Kranti, Dharam-Veer managed to blend it all for superb end results. ToH was an opportunity lost, especially for Aamir.
I hope YrF does not screw up Prithviraj similarly.
This is another reason to watch The Crown. The politics in parliament or Washington is one thing but when it’s combined with monarchy it’s just another level. There is something relatable to King Edward track in 1930’s that is shown in The Crown and Harry & Meghan.
Megzit is good riddance IMO. Queen has sent out right messages. Harry and Meghan are being selfish, they will be rich for many wrong reasons and ways.
#GoodNewwz scores double century… Flies past ₹ 200 cr mark… Has had a glorious run in #Delhi, #NCR, #Punjab, #Mumbai… Crosses *lifetime biz* of #MissionMangal… [Week 4] Fri 75 lakhs, Sat 1.40 cr, Sun 1.89 cr. Total: ₹ 201.14 cr. #India biz.
Tanhaji- The Unsung Warrior is heading for a huge second week which will be among the top second weeks of all time. It will be up there among the 300 crore nett films with Mumbai circuit beating them all barring Bahubali – The Conclusion.
The second Monday has collected around 8 crore nett as per early estimates which is just a 20% drop from teh Friday. This takes the total collection to 170 crore nett plus and it will cross the business of films like Mission Mangal, Good Newwz and Bharat in no time. The former may well be by the end of the second week.
The second week seems to be heading for the 75 crore nett mark which was hit by only Kabir Singh last year and Sanju the year before and the drop of just 33% has probably never been seen by such a wide release. The film could beat the numbers of Uri – The Surgical released same time last year, the trend may not be as strong as Uri – The Surgical strike as that film had phenomenal trending but the numbers till date are far higher than Uri – The Surgical Strike.
#Tanhaji continues to stand tall, run triumphantly on weekdays… Next target: ₹ 200 cr… Will be #AjayDevgn’s second film to hit ₹ 200 cr, after #GolmaalAgain… [Week 2] Fri 10.06 cr, Sat 16.36 cr, Sun 22.12 cr, Mon 8.17 cr, Tue 7.72 cr. Total: ₹ 183.34 cr. #India biz.

Friday – 4,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 6,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday – 7,00,00,000 apprx
Monday – 2,00,00,000 apprx
Tuesday – 2,25,00,000 apprx
Wednesday – 2,25,00,000 apprx
Thursday – 1,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 25,75,00,000 apprx

I differ with you on principles, and I differ with you on so many things, but you, Tony, and whoever have more commonalities than differences with me.’
So, am as thankful to you as anyone else –

Yes, and that in itself is where the problem is. She’s not. Not even close. Just because one is an actor and directs, doesn’t mean they’ll be like Raj.
Dev Anad, Manoj Kumar, Guru Dutt, Firoz Khan and couple other were also actor/director, but none came even close.

It was done for Aamir who has hardly given even 3 movies as director and was still compared to the great, Which was wrong.

No novelty.

Other than ranveer, no one else can pull this role looking this young. Though, that will give us another bajirao mastani and dont wanna see him doing same stuff.

Friday – 14,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 19,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday – 25,50,00,000 apprx

West Bengal seem to be independent in their likes and dislikes. Mardaani 2 managed to cover the distance largely because of Rani’s popularity in West Bengal.
In any case, you’d think that the rest of the country would wonder what the hoo-ha is about Tanhaji and go see it anyway, but apparently not.

Tweets by True Indology –
Source of the snippets: Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah Papers.
From Jinnah’s letter collection in Lucknow AIML office. Digitized and published in 1994-95 by Government of Pakistan and recommended for inclusion in Memory of World Register
