  1. Just yesterday came to know that the girl playing Saif’s daughter is Pooja bedi’s daughter ( Kabir Bedi’s grand daughter )

Aside: My daughter thought that the concept of him dating his daughter ( initially ) is quite repulsive .

    • Ranjhana remains the least talked about classic in this forum. An absolute beauty. When I first saw it a natural unfavourable reaction for Dhanush came but the movie unexpectedly turned out to be brilliant.
Recently I watched Asuran and was blown away. It was extraordinary.
What an actor!! What a star !!!

Frankly never imagined that he could come out as a major star in Tamil Cinema. And it seems he is here to known in Hindi films as well.

      • Ranjhanaa was a silly, boring snoozefest of a love ballet aside from its disgusting justification of stalking & completely idiotic protagonists. ALR is one of those overrated garbage film makers whose never made anything worthwhile except TWMR, that too thanks to its silly gags that were genuinely funny.

      • Raanjhanaa was a love story that had a Shakespearean touch and is mounted on a lavish scale.

A Hindu Brahmin boy falls in love with a beautiful Muslim girl from his neighbourhood. The difference which ALR made in direction and Himanshu in dialogs made this movie a very good watch. Songs were good as well. First half was pure bliss.

In the second half, the love story gets diluted to make way for gobbledygook political ideology that is an irritant.

  5. My Favourite actress 2019- Vidya Balan in Mission Mangal
She was the soul of the movie and carried herself with a flawless performance. When she does something like this, noone comes close.

My Favourite actor 2019 – Akshay Kumar for Kesari.
Akshay was absolutely fantastic in this iconic role of Hawildaar Ishar Singh. From the body language to the attire to the language…this was perfection personified.

My Favourite Film of 2019- Kabir Singh
The film exploded on the screen from 1st scene and reduced to complete silence and tranquility towards the end. It was like watching a war movie. Action, direction, dialogs, script writing, everything was perfect.

My favourite song of 2019 – Jai Jai Shiv Shankar from War
Absolute craze in theatre and this was the highlight of the movie. One will remember this movie mostly because of this song.

My favourite song performance of 2019 – Akshay Kumar in Bala song , Housefull 4
Akshay created a national ‘non dancers’ dance in Bala. The song which otherwise was average had a catchy tune and was uplifted by Akshay’s performance.

Overall 2019 was the year where Akshay Kumar and his films ruled all over.

“Just a slap? Lekin nahin maar sakta”: Tapsee

    @anubhavsinha in stellar form.

When Kabir Singh hits his beloved, there were many who asked how can he hit? The director reasoned that pyaar mein maar peet chalta hai. It’s normal.

Is it normal? I definitely do not think do.

    YOU CANNOT HIT.

    • Indeed. This is the segment that hasn’t liked Panga IMO. It doesn’t display the husband as an alpha male. But Panga IMO is really good for this reason. The husband is supportive in Kangana’s dreams and does everything he can (even if he messes up) to make it happen. Maybe men in India are not ready for this message.

      • Chhapaak & Panga’s failure has more to do with the leading ladies foot in the mouth syndrome than the films themselves. Had they not run after cheap publicity, things might have been different. Deepika even went on tiktok posting a Chhapaak look (how deplorable is that?). We have had films like Chak De, Dangal, Raazi, Mission Mangal (mediocrity of its screenplay notwithstanding) where leading men have been more of supportive characters than the alpha. Not all one way traffic!

  9. Films fail all the time. I don’t think Deepika’s actions or Kangana’s verbal diarrhoea affects a film’s box office performance that much. A film will either take off or it doesn’t. In any case, box office is what it is, it either flops or strikes gold and that’s that.

I think I am more concerned about the narrative that is being built by insecure folks. If you look at the post-release discussion on twitter or youtube, a lot of the negative trolling is driven by men. Bollywoodwallah yt channel slams Chhapaak and Panga for having an agenda (male reviewers). You have to consider what this agenda is. A woman choosing to live her life how she wants to? The reaction against Thappad indicates that there is a growing restlessness and resentment among men about these films. After all, a film’s power is actually more than box office, it is a phenomenon where ideas can take root, inspire people and motivate people to question the norms set by society. This is exactly what upsets the traditionalists so much, and even so-called liberalists – men who pay lip service to ideas of equality and respect but actually deep down are rather comfortable with the way things are.

    • I am sure with Panga Kangana has dented some collateral via her big mouth. That aside the issue with Panga for the very man you describe is he is taking a backseat, doing what traditionally a woman would do. Cooking, cleaning and all while wife is taking plaudits. And also here the husband shows little resentment too, he’s happy because she’s happy. With no significant confrontation between husband and wife it’s probably a dull outing for an alpha male. It’s how I felt watching Baghban. Embarrassed and ashamed of how I treat my parents so I run a mile every time that movie is on!

What an iconic way of celebrating a century of films for the understated, 2 time national award winning legend of Hindi cinema, the survivor whose made it big without traditionally good looks or dancing ability. He’s come a long way since Zakhm to Company to Bhagat Singh to Gangaajal to Apaharan to OUATIM to Raid & now Tanhaji. Awaiting Maidaan !

    Watched Parasite today

A hard hitting story of class, which is difficult to park under any one genre. It’s slapstick and dark, thrilling and flat-out twisted, all while being a scathing critique of the class difference pervading the world of today. The theme is universal, but the way in it is presented in the film is rather unique and “masala like”. Imagine a pertinent issue being addressed with the cinematic lens of a commercial potboiler.

Sensational in most parts, Parasite proves why Koran cinema is dominating the world today. For both makers of Hollywood and Bollywood, Boon Jong-Ho has shown what path breaking stuff truly is like. He subverts both genres and expectations here

  16. I think a lot of this discussion around what constitutes domestic violence & what are its limits is a lot deeper & complex than what we think.

    1) Its about the LIMITS for BOTH parties concerned in a relationship. A woman has every right to leave a man whose slapped or physically abused her no doubt, then so does the man in the relationship. No questions asked. The boundaries & limits of how much is too much needs to be clearly understood by both factions.

    2) However if BOTH parties concerned in the relationship are willing to accept the odd heat of the moment aggression (like what we saw in Kabir Singh) & consider it part of human psyche when pushed beyond a limit, that too needs to be clear between both parties concerned. The problem with Arjun reddy/Kabir Singh was that the toxic alpha behavior was one way traffic. Had it been portrayed from both ends, perhaps it would have come across more balanced. This in no ways is justification for a physically abusive relationship from either party, here we’re talking about a “heat of the moment” instant that happens from either side once in a blue moon that’s mutually agreed upon by both factions. No third party judge, jury has the right to interfere in such instances.

    3) If the understanding is ABSOLUTELY NO physical violence at all, the same should go beyond the 2 parties on to the offspring as well. If the parties swear by point #1, then physical aggression towards an offspring too should be reason for one of the parties to hold the other accountable.

At the end of the day its all about MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING & MUTUAL RESPECT that can form a bond in a relationship. One sided aggression might work well in kinks & fantasies but in real life situations, unless there is a clear boundary set and obeyed, no relationship can take the strain & nor does it deserve to last.

      Housefull 4 satellite Premier impressions.

Emotions, action, romance, friendship, backstabbing, plenty of drama & what not. Watertight screenplay with plenty of edge of seat moments that give adequate thrills through it 155 minute duration. Even the near teary climax might give a few Indian viewers some Sholay vibes. 4/5, must watch on the big screen.

If he doesn’t, you may as well pack your bags & accept the fact that he’s been a perpetual mini star at best, Jeetendra of this generation. One reached 200Cr, other 300Cr. It’s a joke to compare the stardom of both based on consistency. That would imply Ayushman Khurrana is bigger than Hrithik likewise Devgnn. Your only parameter is volume. But you exclude average, day 1, lifetime…only because those unravel Akshay Kumar.

Hrithik’s 2 films averaged 230Cr in 2019! Not a single Akshay Kumar movie in history has gone past that total.

Hrithik’s 2 films averaged an opening in excess of 32Cr! Not a single Akshay Kumar movie in history has gone past that total.

Just because Akshay racks up more movies doesn’t default his position to #1…
Heck Ajay Devgnn has got to every milestone before Akshay has! Just after Good Newwz, Tanhaji comes and blasts past Akshay’s lifetime record in like 16 days.

The odd appreciation or fanboy moment is understandable, but going on & on & on about someone might actually amuse Akshay Kumar himself. It’s true Akshay Kumar has reaped the benefits more as he’s becoming a bigger star but you benchmark against the market. The market is a 300Cr market or Day 1 50Cr – Akshay is working on 200Cr market or Day 1 30Cr. You can debate on aggregate total like cricket.
Tendulkar hit most runs AND most centuries with a great average in variety of conditions. He had a 8/10 or more in most parameters. Akshay’s mastered 1 or 2 (most hits and aggregate) without others like top opening or lifetime records or biggest weekend etc. But you have him 1-10.

But before that 6 smaller releases coming in Feb – Malang, Love Aaj Kal, Shikara, Subh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Bhoot – Haunted Ship and Thappad. Out of these LAK and the Ayushmann film shud be 100+ cr hits. Rest we will have to see.

    • All the movies 2 weeks before and one month after will be impacted. A total loss of 100 Cr to them as RRR is a potential 300 Cr even without the trailer.

      • 2 weeks of free run will be good for LSC. RRR wont affect much in 3rd week if the film is good. Both Lele and Ek Villain sequel will move their release dates. And BP will have to be a really good film to attract audience after LSC and RRR’s dhamaka.

Kjo shud also prepone Brahmastra to 27th Nov to give it 2 weeks of free run.

        • Mr Lele needed a solo holiday release which it has got. It cannot have a better release than the 1st Jan release. LSC will not impact it as it is not a very big film. A 2500 screen and a holiday release is more than enough. So this will not change. KJo has a winner here esp after BP moved to Good Friday weekend next year.

Overall LSC still needs two open weeks with no substantial clash to do the business it needs. It is still under the hammer and the film that will get impacted the most.

        • Best not to bet on the race but the horse. I would always say in Nov-Jan the biggest movies are LSC and RRR because of Aamir and Rajamoulli period. Rest are not lifetime material but I do agree LSC stands to lose most with this congestion. But I bet on the horse, if the movie is strong nothing will stop it. Tanhaji will do 275Cr, no major holiday but losing screens to Chhapaak, Panga, Street Dancer etc. LSC will get 5000+ screens 1st week and if it’s a strong film 3000+ in 2nd week. 3rd week easily still 1000+, business people don’t drop a film that works just ones that don’t.

        • And Maidaan is a worry for LSC too.

Marcus, seems you have misread the who thing. It is not KJo but Aamir who is at stake here.

Why will KJo worry for a 50 Cr movies releasing solo on a holiday and needing 2500 screens, which it will get no matter what LSC does.

        • Ideally this shud be the sched:

          Nov 13 – Prithviraj/Dhakaad
          Nov 27 – Brahmastra
          Dec 11 – Maidaan
          Dec 25 – LSC
          Jan 8 – RRR
          Jan 22 – BP

This gives space to everybody. I can bet that Lele and EV2 will be postponed. Nov – Jan will be 3 big months at BO.

Rajamouli has done LSC a favor by not selecting jan 1.

        • PK level will not make it cross 250 Cr due to heavy flow of movies. This needs Dangal level WoM to do 300 Cr. Lifetime record can be ruled out unless WoM is the best ever and like Tanhaji one of the sector does outstanding business.

        • PK level of WOM will take it to 400 cr, not much more. With Dangal level wom it can go to 450 milestone.

1st thursday christmas eve and 2nd Friday a national holiday is making this date a good draw. A good movie is imminent to come.

  27. @Jay – Aamir is pretty aggressive when it comes to booking screens. He will ensure a second week screen count of 3500-4000 (with or without Lele) while booking first week of 5000 screens. Lele will have to be content with a mini release if it does not move out. And it even stands to lose those screens when RRR comes out a week after. How many screens LSC will hold in week 3 will depend on how it does in first 2 weeks.
