  16. At the trailer launch, Rajinikanth said he finds Bachchan a huge inspiration and recalled three pieces of advice the superstar offered him when he entered his 60s.

“I am inspired by Mr Amitabh Bachchan, on and off screen… He told me three things that he practises. First thing he told me was to exercise regularly. The second thing he told me was to be busy. Just be busy. Do whatever you want to do. Don’t be bothered by what people say.”

“The third thing was, ‘Don’t enter politics’. The first two I follow, but the third advice I couldn’t follow due to circumstances,” the actor told reporters.

    • Awesome. If release today this would be ATBB. WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIMES when action movie in late 80s meant rape, cheap dialogs and idiotic songs. Agneepath came with a different style of Amitabh. Such was his effect that it took his fan lot of time to accept his new voice, which i remember was the most talked about art of the year.

      Like

      • It’s not a theatrical release. Boycotting an OTT movie doesn’t make sense. Bhatt’s already sold the movie to Hotstar. They don’t care the views it generates nor it is in public domain. From now it’s Hotstar’s product. You want to hurt Hotstar? Go head!

        Like

        • All these boycotts are hypocrites. They sat around for decades watching all previous starkids FDFS and now all of a sudden because Kangana says some things along with others people have suddenly grown a conscious! BS! I doubt SSR would approve at all. I’m sure cinema is full of starkid worshippers and agreed it’s sad and should be called out. But boycotting certain films on any medium for this reason is hypocritical – why now? Why not do it decades ago if you ethically believe in this cause?

Every movie would have some someone related to someone else in the industry – boycott everything LOL.

I am not sure how much this negativity would translate into not watching the movie…But we tend to forget worst of things and move on..So I think this is a passing phenomena…

Having said that, issues raised by Kangana are valid ; Her antics and methods are certainly questionable but issues are relevant in closed system like Bollywood with entry threshold.

there is already talk of Aamir’s son in movies or Suhana getting Magazine covers or Salman pushing everyone he knows down our throat..Have we ever heard Disney boss kids in movies or Tom Hanks son ? There is some blame on Bollywood elites but at same time we are the audience….As I said, we are gullible..2 good songs and we are excited about a movie.

          Like

        • With nepotism it’s demand and supply. The demand is from audience. Collectively we the audience are most to blame. Even I would be more partial to seeing a starkid over a newcomer. However if I’m a producer or director and have a role with a starkid and newcomer auditioning – it’s my job to make sure I pick the person who performs better. That’s the subtle difference IMO.

        • With respect to Bollywood, it is somewhat like frogs in the well story….If you watch cinema from other countries (Korean, Scandinavian, South American), you can see the difference in content Bollywood churns out..in fact, I will just go to Kerala and content is much better than what we see in Bollywood…We see one Chak De India, Dangal or Bajrangi and we clamor that it is good cinema..IMO at best they are okay cinema…Can you see those cinemas if they are made in say Thai or some other foreign language not Hindi? I understand some content could be local but our content an average is not even mediocre..It took Baahubali (outside the well) 2 to show that 100 crore club is bogus and your potential is so much that highest grosser Dangal was tapping only fraction of it..

          Like

        • Nepotism works on the entry level mainly. Whether Abhishek will fizzle out or Kareena will sustain depends on their luck and talents imo. Btw, are Aamir fans really excited about his son’s debut? I for one, am hardly interested. If the movie turns out good and i end up liking the boy, then its a different matter. Similarly if Sadak 2 reviews are good, i wudnt mind watching it – all star kid ensemble or not.

Whats worst is that so much talent gets wasted because outsiders are not given proper chances.

        • My take on this whole thing is if it’s my money on line, i’ll take who i want to. Kangana can take who she wants to in her film. how many films did she take sushant in?

        • “Have we ever heard Disney boss kids in movies or Tom Hanks son ?”

Yes, we would if the industry was depended on star system. If the Hindi movie industry is based on Star system then it truly matters. Others need to strive to become ‘stars’. They can become actors easily but if you need stardom that’s different matter.

Yes, Tom Hanks son, Colin Hanks, threw a party when he got a break in Peter Jackson’s next, King Kong, right after Lord of the rings when he was no.1 director. Similarly Will Smith’s son got many break coz of his dad. Same with Ben Afflec took his younger brother who was doing sidey roles in the leading role for his directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone and showed Casey Affleck’s talent to the world. He later won Oscar down the road!

Irrespective of that, if the movie industry is based on stardom, you can’t compare with korean cinemas or other cinemas. Indians likes movie for their content but their major source is the star system. It’s not about talent, its about seeing your fav star in that role like gangster, cop, etc.

Regarding Kangana, I truly can talk whole day but typing and discussing is so much waste of time. So will not bother. She’s wrong in very sense.

Another useless debate is EQUAL PAY TOPIC. Don’t even get me started how wrong they are in that topic.

          Like

        • Star system is chronic disease in end. So I agree Kangana is totally all about the attention but the underlying truth about nepotism being a bad thing is fair. It’s just she’s pushing it too much and using SSR’s death is even lower.

        • If survival depends on stardom, long term industry is doomed. Eventually OTT content will hurt cinema as it’s simply more affordable and better content easily.

Mostly IDMB should have stopped taking rating when viewers are more emotionally driven rather than pragmatic about the movie.

Problem is now an insider do a good movie also, it will be trolled badly irrespective of the merit of the movie.

  49. Also, i am appaled by lot of people asking to boycott Bollywood just because of someone started nepotism debate, when SSR death is still getting investigated.

Are we sure nepotism is the cause of SSR death? is it because we believe in TRP based media stories? Nepotism is everywhere be it politics, business, sports. just to boycott Bollywood based on some theories put out by media channel is simply wrong.

If nepotism is so big in Bollywood, Junior B would have been a huge superstar by now and also Uday Chopra and Thussar Kapoor. Be it Salman, Hrithik, Amir no one of there father was huge stars. so let us not discredit the actual talent and hard work by calling nepotism.

Also, I am bit disappointed at the same time that all the big stars are keeping silent, when their name is getting dragged in social media.

Why the big star not schedule a press conference and clarify the issues regarding nepotism, SSR death and asking for SSR case investigation from CBI? what is there fear?

There are some amazing talents in Bollywood and it gives money and food to lot of people who may not know meaning of nepotism.

More Bollywood keep silent, more people will ask for boycott and spread hatred and troll for good cinemas.

      Why are you disappointed?
Have you seen the type of reaction out of news media channel and even public when they provide any type of feedback?
I hope SRK/Salman/Aamir/hrithik stays quite and not provide any feedback (especially hrithik). Be like bachchan, dono side taali bajate raho.

Remember we live in an environment where an issue is made out of Rahat Fateh Ali singing in salman movie but it’s okay when same rahat fateh ali khan sings in ajay devgan movie.

      • “Be like bachchan, dono side taali bajate raho.”

LOL talk of a veiled attack! As though the 3 Khans are bathed in honey! Aamir was quite happy being a signatory of that idiotic letter in 2005 to the Americans to deny visa to Modi. SRK was quite happy to bathe in milking the Muslim identity and persecution via a fake film like MNIK. Salman was the only person who was/is quite consistent in accepting the people’s verdict regarding Modi but you know, he’s just being human.

And all these three, along with a multitude of artistes from the Bombay film industry, were quite happy take pictures/selfies with Modi! Ab nahin bajta kya dono side se taali!

For an actor like Bachchan, to be called a traitor, and be smeared with cow-dung because he was supposedly a traitor involved in Bofors related corruption, playing the role of ‘Shahenshah’ a vigilante who crusaded against corruption, to be silent and not speak up, is the right step: And so is this the right of the 3 Khans and all other actors in the Hindi film Industry. If Manoj or Naseer want to shoot their mouths off, it is their pre-rogagative. Firstly, let Naseer give me ONE bloody interview without a mention of Amitabh, and then let’s see. That seals it.

I understand the insecurities of folks but Bachchan, at age 77, arousing these kind of insecurities, is truly hilarious.

        • LOL, leave it to you turn/twist everything.

Bachchan knows how to play the game, how to give diplomatic answer, so i’m just saying other should follow his foot steps.

          Like

        • So do the 3 Khan and Shatru the so-called ‘straight-spoken’ ‘shot-gun.’ The twist is how cleverly you put in a line and sow seeds. It is pretty clear what you insinuated. So I will leave it at that. And this is not the first time you have used this trick. I have given you ample proofs of history why he prefers to stay silent. You can continue with insinuations as you wish. I have given ample examples of how ALL the 3 Khans are ‘diplomatic’ as well.

And I have said there’s nothing wrong in that! It is their prerogative if they want to stay silent.

Twisting and turning and insinuating is not in my nature.

The much-awaited trailer of Death on the Nile is here, also starring Ali Fazal, who got worldwide recognition for his role in Victoria and Abdul.

Hope it’s not as underwhelming as Murder on the Orient Express: a film that relied heavily on visuals and imagery and flamboyant performances rather than bringing to life Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit.

Death on the Nile, however, remains one of my personal favourites of the queen. It was not just a typical plot-murder-killer story. It had some neatly fleshed out characters and one of the best alibis ever created in detective fiction. Work of sheer genius.

Glad they’re bringing her stories back to life, and giving them the pomp and show and huge starcasts to attract a worldwide audience.

    • I also read it.

“It also attacked the Bollywood superstar for endorsing Chinese products. “Why do Aamir Khan’s movies do well in China while other actors’ movies fail. His movie “Dangal” did so well but Salman Khan’s movie “Sultan” couldn’t get a matching response. Aamir Khan is the brand ambassador of Chinese products, this is an oversight of security norms,” reads the article, as it links border tensions to the actor’s popularity in China. In June, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in line of duty in Ladakh as tensions with China escalated.”

      As far brand ambassadorship

While Vivo roped in Aamir Khan and Sara Ali Khan as its brand ambassador, Oppo’s list of brand ambassadors is rather long – Deepika Padukone, Siddharth Malhotra, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Badshah. Katrina Kaif is the face of Xiaomi which is one of the fastest growing brands in India, while Ranveer Singh is the face of RedMi (which is a sub brand of Xiaomi). Laptop manufacturer Lenevo roped in Ranbir Kapoor in 2012 and association that’s still continuing. The latest star to promote a Chinese product is industry’s famous bhai (Salman Khan) who is now associated with Realme.

And you people took away Shining India and Snapdeal from him.

The reasoning given for why Dangal did well in China while others failed is out right dumb. Though I can’t say if I’m surprised.

Not just Aamir, but people who’ve unnecessarily been targeted despite maintaining a dignified silence should all sue these people. Really, enough is enough.

        • If suing despite maintaining a silence becomes a norm, both Modi & RG would end up suing half the opposition members for direct personal attacks & vendetta without provocation. Its a part of political gamesmanship since time immemorial, however its unfortunate certain pretentious celebs who’ve got little or nothing to boast of on their craft have misused social media forums for political ranting & cheap publicity (Kangana being the latest to join after the likes of Anubhav Sinha, Vivek Agnihotri, Swara Bhaskar & many more) while the one’s who maintained a distance like Aamir Khan or Raju Hirani tend to get needlessly targeted (Sanju was a terrible film while PK was mediocre but this has nothing to do with Hirani’s so called Anti Hindu propaganda in my opinion).
