The commentary of Vir Das has met with extraordinary criticism. Though what he said is not wrong, but looks like his comedy at the expense of country has not been well received by and large by Indians living in India and abroad.
However the purpose is solved. His video is a blockbuster. He is now more famous.
Depends who you ask. Of course modi/yogi followers will give it a rating of 0 to 2 out of 5.
Rest will give it 4 to 5 out of 5.

Laws that were completely legal, good for the farmers and with the center open to even discussing with thuggie farmers blocking streets and causing damage to public life have been repealed.
And I talk, as having had my close family members practicing farming and toiling day and night in Sangli and who were suffering and were glad that their lives would finally be improved… [It is Sangli, not Sanghi BTW].
Sometimes one has to compromise. Surely someone must have advised the PM to legislate those 3 farm laws. And again someone else must have advised him to repeal them. So it is someone someone who is behind it. They thought the farmers will back down. And then the mowing of farmers happened which must have turned the tide in favour of the repeal of the farm laws. There are so many compulsions and we just cant pass judgments without giving some benefit of doubt. By this people will be happy with the PM for being flexible than being adamant. It is a win win situation for the PM.
For my part I am happy and grateful to whoever advised him to repeal it and for him accepting it graciously. Now we can move on.
It was never a case of ego. These laws were for the betterment of farmers’ lives. NO true farmer will call repeal of ‘all’ laws. When called for negotiations, they will negotiate with a clause or whatever number of clauses and the center was ready to negotiate with them. Anyway, it’s a huge step backward for the lakhs of farmers who dreamt of a better life through these laws. This is politics of the WORST kind. I don’t care if it was Modi or Vajpayee or Chandrashekhar at the center, I support the farm laws at an analytical, ground-level field and this repeal is at the cost of farmers and making the farming sector a level-playing

Bob Biswas may be a saviour for Abhishek’s career but AB sr never needed Badla as a saviour. He was doing well (still is) as always coming with good stuff like PInk, Pikku, 100 Not Out and Gibalo Sitabo during that phase. It was just another hit for him.
But yes, Abhishek badly needs good projects and something to bring him back into the limelight.
He has made some dreadful decisions in his career. He refused a project like Special Chabbis at a time his career had started to decline and dedicated 2 years to All Is well, just imagine that.
I wish BobBiswas got an threathical release. Really feel sad for Abhishek not getting bigger canvas projects. Talented than most of the others..Not sure why Dharma productions are giving him any projects either, He did a good job in Big Bull, but for his bad luck ‘Scam 1992’ got amazing reception and was well made..I’am sure naysayers will compre now with the orgginal Bob Biswas character and pull this down.. Abhishek has a bad press for a very longtime..
Clean family ENTERTAINER with good 1st half & Average 2nd half.. There is a funny & intriguing con jobs showcased in the film throughout where both Bunty Babli’s duo’s takes on each other. Director Varun Sharma manages to retains the Quirkiness of BB1.

Dhamaka is receiving mixed reviews otherwise. While Bunty Babli is receiving average to good reviews. Surprisingly Taran gave it a very bad review and rating. Let us see this weekend and Monday for the real picture to emerge. This is a long weekend and films may benefit from this factor.

Sooryavanshi Is Top INDIAN Film Post Pandemic In Two Weeks

Sooryavanshi has emerged the top INDIAN film in just two weeks with collections of 166 crore nett. There is no competition from Hindi films due to a disjointed market for 18 months and hardly any films making to the theatres. The competition is mainly from South as they had their own markets in a good position in the first quarter of 2021.
The biggest film from the South at that time was Master which was touted as a pan India film like so many others are nowadays when the only real pan India films come from Hollywood. The fact remains that a film that is not called pan India like Sooryavanshi has collected more in Nizam / Andhra in Hindi than Master did across all Hindi circuits in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Being pan India for Indian films is about some sort of branding as if people watch it becomes pan India not by just releasing but more on that on another day.
On the other side is that this film Master did very well in Tamil Nadu and is among the top five films in that state and finished with a very good final total of 162 crore nett apprx in India. The worldwide business was around 230 cr GROSS and that has also been crossed by Sooryavanshi which stands at around 251 crore in just two weeks.

One clause, in fact, kickstarted the fall of the BJP’s politics on the farmers’s issue.
The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, which will be now repealed in Parliament, provides for a dispute resolution mechanism in Chapter 3, section 8 of the Act.
It says the trader and the farmer’s dispute will be heard and settled by a conciliation board appointed by the sub-divisional magistrate and the decision will be binding on the parties.
This was the most problematic clause which put the farmer at the sub-divisional magistrate’s mercy. Barring this one clause, the farm laws were modern and in the interest of the farmers. The government had agreed to withdraw this particular clause during negotiations with the SKM.
But the BJP’s propaganda machinery could not counter the united might of Sikh leaders, Jat farmers and anti-BJP forces.
The BJP will have to lie low and assess the political damage to Modi’s image of being a strong leader.

14th and 15th April are national holidays – 4 days holiday weekend. And Eid holidays will be on 3rd week of its run. KGF 2 is likely to shift its release date from 14th April.
The first film with barely any buzz and a clash with Zero made 40 crore in Hindi. The sequel has huge buzz, either LSC is a very good film or it’s going down.
KGF will readily shift its date if its wants to have ‘pan-india’ collections. LSC has now got the best release date in 2022. It will do 200-250 cr nett straight in its 8 days of extended first week. This aint a stupid YRF production.
I expect Vijay’s Beast to release on 14 April too, it’s Tamil New Year. Basically KGF is squeezed to the Karnataka and AP/Nizam territories for full potential in that case.
Kgf will come on a non holiday weekend in May and do ok. Its one thing to clash with a fading buffoon of a superstar who had lost his small marbles 10 years back and another thing to clash with the legacy of AKP after lagaan, tzp and dangal.
There is some hype around KGF 2. It trended quite well, and gained interest with time.
Of course, LSC remains my fist choice there. I am a big fan of Forrest Gump and I am intrigued with what Aamir brings on the table with it.
However, KGF is not B-Grade. If it is, then a lot of masala films are B-Grade. These are commercial films that have an audience out there and it it works for them, I am not here to criticise that audience. I have seen films like Khakee and Agneepath getting dimissed by the audience, so I can expect anything.
However if KGF2 maintains that date, it will be a small clash and even if LSC will have the edge completely in certain territories, KGF2 will hamper collections in quite a few others.
No. I am not comparing KGF with Khakee. Far from it. You didn’t read mu post well. Its the other way round in fact. I am just saying that I have seen great films being disliked and bad films (IMO) being liked. But the audience is the one who decides.
It’s not as if I don’t like something and others like it, I will call it B Grade just because the genre does not cater to.my taste.
I know what I am talking about when I say that something looks B Grade. It is not about genre only. There are good action films and bad action films. Both are called action films. A bad looking action film will be called B grade or C grade.
Hope KGF2 proves to be a good action film liked by the classes as well.
Look, Andaz Apna Apna released against Suhaag and Yaat Gaddaar- a Mithun film. AAAdid almost around 50% of Suhaag’s collections and slightly better than Yaar Gaddaar. I saw those collections back then. Today it is a cult film. But, still, producers and distributors lost a lot of money there and the audience back then probably felt while Santoshi, Aamir and Salman must have been hurt by the results. At the end of the day, it is always about balance in terms of quality
and appreciation from the audience. Ideally, you achieve both.
Cant predict which will win and which will lose. A polished film like Shaan is an example. Success of a film is sort of gamble. You win or you lose. So better go for quality. There will be some satisafaction even if it fails. If it gets both, then it is pure luck.
AAA did not make any losses at its time of release. Thats pure bull crap. It did 5+ cr nett which was an average BO result back then. Even FI had given it Coverage/CE status it its annual verdicts.
I saw the numbers of AAA on Trade Guide. They did not look good at all, believe me. The Mumbai and Dehli-UP collections were half of that of Suhaag during the first 3 weeks.
As for Shaan, it had more collections than practically every film back then. It was bogged down due to the comparisons wit Sholay (which film is comparable with that?). In Ramesh sippy’s own words, he didn’t lose money nor did the distributors. The profits were small, though, due the high budget.
It’s like a film like Kaante in 2003 against Saathiya for example. Kaante did 1.38cr in in Mumbai in first week. Saathiya did 0.3cr. The latter was less costly. Kaante’s standard for being a hit was higher. That was what Shaan against most films were like back then. These Kaante-Saathiya are collections from TG that I saw with my own eyes and not from secondary reporting, with hindsight and manipulation added.
I am completely skeptical of what AAA numbers you are talking about. Even by BOI, Suhaag did 7 cr nett and AAA did 5 cr nett. And you are saying AAA collections were half of Suhaag? Is it even possible?
And Suhaag was not even a universal hit. Did you check Yaar Gaddaar’s numbers? Below AAA’s numbers, I am sure, but not probably not by too much. I remember AAA’s numbers being closer to YG than that of Suhaag back then and that was a wash-out of a Mithun film. So, you have an idea how big AAA was in real terms.
Please make some sense of what you are talking about. AAA making losses is a plain lie. FI never gives Coverage/Commission Earner status to loss makers.

Regarding LSC’s previous feb release date, i was not happy. Looked unlikely that such a big film will go with such a low-key release date. Now apr 14 is a much better date and m quite sure LSC will be the first 300 c post pandemic grosser.
Sooryavanshi Remains On Course For 200 Crore – Excellent Third Friday

Sooryavanshi has recorded an excellent second Friday with collections likely to be a little higher than Thursday as it a got the holiday factor in the North and more importantly the collections in Mumbai and Gujarat also look higher than Thursday.
This will give the film collections of 3.25-3.50 crore nett on its third Friday and this third Friday business ensures it remains on course for a 200 crore nett final total. There will be more hurdles next week with two releases but now it is pretty certain that the film will do better business in week three than other Diwali 200 crore films like Golmaal Again and Housefull 4 did.
The film remained unaffected by the new release Bunty Aur Babli 2 as it collected better than that film across the country barring some cinemas of North India. Bunty Aur Babli 2 has only managed to collect fair numbers in and around Delhi due to the holiday, the collections are very dull in Gujarat and Central India markets with Sooryavanshi being three times ahead at many centres despite being in week three.
Bunty Aur Babli 2 will collect around the 2.75 crore nett range and that is thanks to Guru Nanak Jayanti in the North and here collections are likely to be less on Saturday.
Yes, but if you follow Aamir well, you will know that he will not live with past achievements. He is very self-critical and will try to come uo with something good.
He is much more diplomatic these days but back in the 90s , I remember him being very vocal against his directors, films and co-stars.
He will not rest on his laurels. It will be 5 years after Dangal and he will be adamant to put things right after TOH. 5 years mean you are still relevant for your fans and you are in oblivion for the rest unless you pit things right. Trust him to not lose that hunger and not be satisfied by past achievements.
LSC is long overdue and should be released to move on to the next project. It should not be like waiting for the best spouse and becoming old and irrelevant. That is waiting for the best period without clashes and becoming a big burden and a white elephant.
Too many films are waiting and there are bound to be clashes. Cant be avoided.
I dont mind KGF clashing with LSC. It will be at KGF’s expense. I am quite sure AKP will deliver a good film here (given the original material) and it will work big at BO with this release date of Apr 14.
FG was a tremendous film. It is tremendous material. Films like Ode to my Father have been inspired from the narrative.
There is absolutely no comparison between Ode to my Father and Bharat. They completely messed it up.
I think Aamir has lived his comparisons with Tom Hanks and he is inspired by him (which is not a bad thing at all). I know the FG and Tom Hanks analogies are not too appreciated here, but if FG is the standard he tries to achive, then LSC will be a very good film. It’s just like the Tom Hanks inspiration has worked out for him in the 90s and is partially responsible for what Aamir is today.
First if at all a remake…picking something like a forrest gump itself is commendable and doing the role of Tom Hanks is a remarkable DARE in true sense.
Only Aamir could have done this. My best wishes. KGF2 would only take away the screens and that could rob few crores.
Else LSC is a one horse race. It would also do well in South.
There is a perception that some films are hit and some are not. Further our data and our sites are not entirely reliable. So everything should be taken with a pinch of salt. Here is where quality of a film comes into picture. A quality film will shine in some(fans?) hearts inspite of being tagged flop or not a good hit.
This is for borderline cases. Here grace marks, manipulations come into play according to assessor’s bias or discretion as the case maybe.
A big blockbuster is accepted by all without questions.
It has already happened. Before release no one was even sure of 100 cr, now its still in the race for 200 cr. Sooryavanshi has really defied all expectations and done v v well. It deserves to be the highest grosser of 2021.
This was inevitable even if Aryan waa at fault.

Those days of Sanjay Dutt or Lalu Yadav in Jail are gone. Yes few weeks in judicial custody / prison but with plenty of media and fans ready to call you not guilty….its not really really bad. Bad …yes ofcourse.

Let’s also sink in that without any base, they let Aryan Khan stay in jail for weeks for such baseless allegations. Some might be squirming in their seats after hearing this high court order.
Just take this blog as a small sample size, plenty here were okay with this knowing that there were so many loopholes with nothing proven to suggest aryan was guilty but they were perfectly okay with him being behind bars for few weeks. not to mention character assassination like “charsi, druggie” being used regularly.

NCB is very serious organization and if they arrest someone and charge with serious sections like drug trafficking and drug peddling without an outa of proofs and court rejecting them on the face is such a huge insult to them. They just wasted so much of public money, court time and efforts for nothing. This is 2nd time after Rhea where they tried to use section 29 to pin them as drug peddlers and both the time High court rejected them flatly. Both times it’s Sameer Wankhede who has been made NCB just to do this dirty work and hasbeen in NCB for less than a year. Both times fake and cases which can’t stand in the eyes of law. So basically arresting anyone without much proof and court laughing at NCB and scolding them and kicking out the allegations. If that’s not wrong, I wonder what else is? Please come out of SSR justice mode where you went against whole Bollywood to boycott them. You want everyone to become puppet or else face such fake allegations?

If the VFX work is planned to be completed as late as March, then i am skeptical of the April 14th release date. Will all VFX be completed satisfactorily by then? VFX works usually gets delayed now and then.
Anyways, April 14 is a good release date and hope the film gets completed in time. Also hope we dont get a third wave in India in the meantime.
However, it has now come to light that initially, the makers had decided that there would indeed be a romantic angle for the track of Salman. In fact, it was Salman and director Mahesh Manjrekar who revealed this bit. Sooryavanshi is maintaining its strong run at the box office with collections in the 1.75 crore nett range on its third Monday. The film is on course to be the highest third week collections ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer. The drop is 45% on the third Monday but the Friday collections were boosted by 15-20% by the partial holiday on Friday.

Jersey, which is the Hindi remake of the 2019 Telugu movie of the same name, features Shahid Kapoor as a talented but failed cricketer who decides to rise again and re-enter the game in his thirties for the sake of his son. The film stars Mrunal Thakur as Shahid Kapoor’s wife and Pankaj Kapur as his mentor. The trailer starts with Shahid Kapoor, who once used to be a popular cricketer but isn’t doing anything professionally currently, asking his wife for some money, after which she denies. I think Jersey has turned up really good as a film. Heard a lot about the Telegu original, so this is likely. Unless they have a good film in hand, they wont be squeezing in its release between biggies like 83 and RRR.
Both may be about cricket, but 83 is about winning the World Cup while Jersey is about winning the Ranji Trophy. Sometimes the underdog does win – so we will see.

He is quite indecisive. First it was February and now April.
Hearing that KGF is postponing to June. If the planned vfx comes out ok, i am predicting 150+ cr in 4 day weekend and 225+ cr extended week one of 8 days. First 300+ cr film after pandemic and chances of 400 cr total cant be ruled out.
This can only happen if Aamir has taken control of this movie.

Its still 4-5 months from now. I think it will be close to normal then. And its AKP production after all with Aamir as the main lead. My expectations are based on quality at the level of Lagaan, TZP and Dangal. I am sure Aamir is in control here. Given the original material LSC is bound to be an emotional film and Aamir’s EQ is the best in the industry imo.
One thing i am sure is it perhaps wont do 50 cr on any single day in the opening weekend. But it can do 40 cr on average over the first 4 days due to the long holiday weekend factor. Thats 150-160 cr over the weekend. If wom is great, it can average 20 cr from Monday to Thursday for 230-240 cr week one.
100 cr week two snd 50 cr week 3 can take it to 380-390 cr. In that case 400 cr total will come by.
Lagaan and tzp were not massive grossers. So it really depends if LSC is a box office type tent pole film or targeting to add to his list of good movies. Obviously he’ll want both.
Post Ghajini, Aamir’s good films have been all ATGs – 3I, PK, Dangal. If LSC is as good as we shud expect from a FG remake, then box office is going to be great imo.

First Clash Post Pandemic: Satyameva Jayate 2 Holds Edge

The first boxoffice clash post the pandemic will be seen this week as Antim – The Final Truth and Satyameva Jayate 2 release. Satyameva Jayate 2 is releasing one day earlier which gives the film an edge because for one day it will be a solo release and it will have a four day weekend compared to the three day weekend of Antim – The Final Truth.
These things hardly matter if one film is superior to the other but when the content is at a similar level then an extra solo day over the first weekend makes a big difference. The makers of Antim – The Final Truth should actually be releasing on Thursday as well so then it becomes a level playing field.
Satyameva Jayate 2 is a sequel of Satyameva Jayate released in 2018 and it took a huge start of around 20 crore nett on a national holiday and also did very well in the final run thanks to the start. Whether the actual film was strong enough for a sequel is another matter and the initial response here will tell the brand value of this franchise. The film did see pretty good satellite results also.
Antim – The Final Truth would not really a be much competition for Satyameva Jayate 2 but with Salman Khan dominating the trailer of the film it gives the film a different position in terms of the boxoffice. There is also the fact that today that due to awareness of the audience they know that the film is not a Salman Khan starrer like a Bharat or Radhe. Twenty or thirty years ago the awareness was much less and these sort of star extended guest roles took films to safety.
Both Antim – The Final Truth and Satyameva Jayate 2 are also catering to the same audience in the same circuits and this will be an issue especially when the market has just got going a few weeks back. The industry will be expecting solid totals from both films on Friday but it will be more about a combined good total. You will actually have three films including Sooryavanshi all aiming for the same action Hindi belt audience.
Ridley Scott blames millenials for The Last Duel’s box office performance: “What it boils down to [are] the audiences who were brought up on cell phones. The millennian, [who] do not ever want to be taught anything unless you told it on the cell phone.”
Mumbai is average as of now for John Abraham starrer. We saw the city was on a rampage mode for Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi. Of course, the buzz of that film was on another level. As of now few shows here and there are filling fast. Spot bookings to play a big role.
Delhi-NCR
The capital region stays all blank for the film and there’s no single filling fast show. This region is known for mass movie lovers. Also, John‘s previous films have performed well here. So, expect things to get paced up by evening.
Bengaluru
Bengaluru too stays in the green zone (all seats easily available) as of now. Spot bookings may pull off a wonder.
Hyderabad
Hyderabad is somewhat similar or slightly better than Mumbai. John Abraham’s all previous films like Batla House, Satyameva Jayate have performed well here. So another great start is expected for the actor.
Ahmedabad
After going full throttle for Sooryavanshi, the city is staying slow for Satyameva Jayate 2. All shows are in the green zone here.
Chennai, Pune & Kolkata
Chennai is showing around 5% shows in filling fast mode, while Pune and Kolkata stay low. Pune is mostly known for spot bookings, so expect a good turnaround in the city by tomorrow.

The commentary of Vir Das has met with extraordinary criticism. Though what he said is not wrong, but looks like his comedy at the expense of country has not been well received by and large by Indians living in India and abroad.
However the purpose is solved. His video is a blockbuster. He is now more famous.

I agree here with congress party’s stand. What Vir said is not wrong. In Australia if i meet anyone, i would like to say good things about India. Not that there are no bad things.
But its who i am. No one is interested in politics in India. So why to bring that in?
Now there are few i see around who goes about batching their own country. It doesn’t matter from which nation he is from. I lose respect for such individuals. Yaar galat har country mein hai. But what you say is the progress.

Agree, but people mind set are such that issues are what rises curioucity in people.
Issues related movies is what works and in this case it’s stand up comedy.
I remember in past, indias image was mostly associated with poverty, little by little, it’s turning into poverty, rape, no-democracy.
There has to be a change, but i’m afraid in past 10 years, the minds are really washed up.
Not just India, here in USA too, under trump presidency, he made it like it’s okay to be raciest. those who stayed in closet, are now out and feel they can be raciest and be okay with it.
Than some of it is dependent on where the graph is going.
At least here in USA, it is so diverse with so many people from all over the world, so many different religions, that in the end the good outweighs the bad.

Yes, you don’t want to do your dirty laundry in public but sometimes people get fed-up with what they see and react like this, because they know that there will be no change.

Sometimes one has to compromise. Surely someone must have advised the PM to legislate those 3 farm laws. And again someone else must have advised him to repeal them. So it is someone someone who is behind it. They thought the farmers will back down. And then the mowing of farmers happened which must have turned the tide in favour of the repeal of the farm laws. There are so many compulsions and we just cant pass judgments without giving some benefit of doubt. By this people will be happy with the PM for being flexible than being adamant. It is a win win situation for the PM.
For my part I am happy and grateful to whoever advised him to repeal it and for him accepting it graciously. Now we can move on.

It was never a case of ego. These laws were for the betterment of farmers’ lives. NO true farmer will call repeal of ‘all’ laws. When called for negotiations, they will negotiate with a clause or whatever number of clauses and the center was ready to negotiate with them. Yes, such a important law, introduced as an ordinance during the lockdown, passed through parliament without debate and voice vote. That you get a band of Tendulkar, Mangeshkar, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar to copy tweet when protests get international attention. Arrest a 21 year old climate activist under UAPA for a tweet and take her from Bangalore to throw her in Tihar with no case.
Leadership is when Manmohan Singh invited Vajpayee to discuss the Nuclear Deal, or Narasimha Rao taking Kalam to Vajpayee to explain Pokhran. This is a government whose arrogance has affected even its more levelheaded policies.
These are the concerns of the farmers, yet it seems An Jo has read the bill and so many people has nothing better to do than protest all day (of course, then that would mean there are no jobs anywhere):

Bob Biswas may be a saviour for Abhishek’s career but AB sr never needed Badla as a saviour. He was doing well (still is) as always coming with good stuff like PInk, Pikku, 100 Not Out and Gibalo Sitabo during that phase. It was just another hit for him.
But yes, Abhishek badly needs good projects and something to bring him back into the limelight.
He has made some dreadful decisions in his career. He refused a project like Special Chabbis at a time his career had started to decline and dedicated 2 years to All Is well, just imagine that.

Sooryavanshi has emerged the top INDIAN film in just two weeks with collections of 166 crore nett. There is no competition from Hindi films due to a disjointed market for 18 months and hardly any films making to the theatres. The competition is mainly from South as they had their own markets in a good position in the first quarter of 2021.
The biggest film from the South at that time was Master which was touted as a pan India film like so many others are nowadays when the only real pan India films come from Hollywood. The fact remains that a film that is not called pan India like Sooryavanshi has collected more in Nizam / Andhra in Hindi than Master did across all Hindi circuits in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Being pan India for Indian films is about some sort of branding as if people watch it becomes pan India not by just releasing but more on that on another day.
On the other side is that this film Master did very well in Tamil Nadu and is among the top five films in that state and finished with a very good final total of 162 crore nett apprx in India. The worldwide business was around 230 cr GROSS and that has also been crossed by Sooryavanshi which stands at around 251 crore in just two weeks.

One clause, in fact, kickstarted the fall of the BJP’s politics on the farmers’s issue.
The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, which will be now repealed in Parliament, provides for a dispute resolution mechanism in Chapter 3, section 8 of the Act.
It says the trader and the farmer’s dispute will be heard and settled by a conciliation board appointed by the sub-divisional magistrate and the decision will be binding on the parties.
This was the most problematic clause which put the farmer at the sub-divisional magistrate’s mercy. Barring this one clause, the farm laws were modern and in the interest of the farmers. The government had agreed to withdraw this particular clause during negotiations with the SKM.
But the BJP’s propaganda machinery could not counter the united might of Sikh leaders, Jat farmers and anti-BJP forces.
The BJP will have to lie low and assess the political damage to Modi’s image of being a strong leader.

There is some hype around KGF 2. It trended quite well, and gained interest with time.
Of course, LSC remains my fist choice there. I am a big fan of Forrest Gump and I am intrigued with what Aamir brings on the table with it.
However, KGF is not B-Grade. If it is, then a lot of masala films are B-Grade. These are commercial films that have an audience out there and it it works for them, I am not here to criticise that audience. I have seen films like Khakee and Agneepath getting dimissed by the audience, so I can expect anything.
However if KGF2 maintains that date, it will be a small clash and even if LSC will have the edge completely in certain territories, KGF2 will hamper collections in quite a few others.

Look, Andaz Apna Apna released against Suhaag and Yaat Gaddaar- a Mithun film. AAAdid almost around 50% of Suhaag’s collections and slightly better than Yaar Gaddaar. I saw those collections back then. Today it is a cult film. But, still, producers and distributors lost a lot of money there and the audience back then probably felt while Santoshi, Aamir and Salman must have been hurt by the results. At the end of the day, it is always about balance in terms of quality
and appreciation from the audience. Ideally, you achieve both.

Cant predict which will win and which will lose. A polished film like Shaan is an example. Success of a film is sort of gamble. You win or you lose. So better go for quality. There will be some satisafaction even if it fails. If it gets both, then it is pure luck.

I saw the numbers of AAA on Trade Guide. They did not look good at all, believe me. The Mumbai and Dehli-UP collections were half of that of Suhaag during the first 3 weeks.
As for Shaan, it had more collections than practically every film back then. It was bogged down due to the comparisons wit Sholay (which film is comparable with that?). In Ramesh sippy’s own words, he didn’t lose money nor did the distributors. The profits were small, though, due the high budget.
It’s like a film like Kaante in 2003 against Saathiya for example. Kaante did 1.38cr in in Mumbai in first week. Saathiya did 0.3cr. The latter was less costly. Kaante’s standard for being a hit was higher. That was what Shaan against most films were like back then. These Kaante-Saathiya are collections from TG that I saw with my own eyes and not from secondary reporting, with hindsight and manipulation added.

I remember AAA’s numbers being closer to YG than that of Suhaag back then and that was a wash-out of a Mithun film. So, you have an idea how big AAA was in real terms.

Regarding LSC’s previous feb release date, i was not happy. Looked unlikely that such a big film will go with such a low-key release date. Now apr 14 is a much better date and m quite sure LSC will be the first 300 c post pandemic grosser.

Sooryavanshi Remains On Course For 200 Crore – Excellent Third Friday

Sooryavanshi has recorded an excellent second Friday with collections likely to be a little higher than Thursday as it a got the holiday factor in the North and more importantly the collections in Mumbai and Gujarat also look higher than Thursday.
This will give the film collections of 3.25-3.50 crore nett on its third Friday and this third Friday business ensures it remains on course for a 200 crore nett final total. There will be more hurdles next week with two releases but now it is pretty certain that the film will do better business in week three than other Diwali 200 crore films like Golmaal Again and Housefull 4 did.
The film remained unaffected by the new release Bunty Aur Babli 2 as it collected better than that film across the country barring some cinemas of North India. Bunty Aur Babli 2 has only managed to collect fair numbers in and around Delhi due to the holiday, the collections are very dull in Gujarat and Central India markets with Sooryavanshi being three times ahead at many centres despite being in week three.
Bunty Aur Babli 2 will collect around the 2.75 crore nett range and that is thanks to Guru Nanak Jayanti in the North and here collections are likely to be less on Saturday.

Yes, but if you follow Aamir well, you will know that he will not live with past achievements. He is very self-critical and will try to come uo with something good.
He is much more diplomatic these days but back in the 90s , I remember him being very vocal against his directors, films and co-stars.
He will not rest on his laurels. It will be 5 years after Dangal and he will be adamant to put things right after TOH. 5 years mean you are still relevant for your fans and you are in oblivion for the rest unless you pit things right. Trust him to not lose that hunger and not be satisfied by past achievements.

LSC is long overdue and should be released to move on to the next project. It should not be like waiting for the best spouse and becoming old and irrelevant. That is waiting for the best period without clashes and becoming a big burden and a white elephant.

FG was a tremendous film. It is tremendous material. Films like Ode to my Father have been inspired from the narrative.
There is absolutely no comparison between Ode to my Father and Bharat. They completely messed it up.
I think Aamir has lived his comparisons with Tom Hanks and he is inspired by him (which is not a bad thing at all). I know the FG and Tom Hanks analogies are not too appreciated here, but if FG is the standard he tries to achive, then LSC will be a very good film. It’s just like the Tom Hanks inspiration has worked out for him in the 90s and is partially responsible for what Aamir is today.

I think so too. Btw, if week 3 turns out to be in 20-25 cr range then it will probably touch 200 cr.
I guess 83 and Jersey will do ok, but wont do 200 cr like Sooryavanshi. The releases are too close to each other.

It has already happened. Before release no one was even sure of 100 cr, now its still in the race for 200 cr. Sooryavanshi has really defied all expectations and done v v well. It deserves to be the highest grosser of 2021.

With battery of lawyers including ex Attorney General of India and a Sr lawyer who created world’s first driverless car of the world…..i never had a doubt.
Those days of Sanjay Dutt or Lalu Yadav in Jail are gone. Yes few weeks in judicial custody / prison but with plenty of media and fans ready to call you not guilty….its not really really bad. Bad …yes ofcourse.

Okay lets take a moment here. This is HIGH COURT ORDER.
– Not found in possession of any objectionable substance.
– Nothing in whatsapp chats (neither local or international connection)
– Nothing to prove of conscious possession
– Nothing to prove that there is conspiracy to commit a crime.
– No criminal evidence against the accused.
Let’s also sink in that without any base, they let Aryan Khan stay in jail for weeks for such baseless allegations. Some might be squirming in their seats after hearing this high court order.

Just take this blog as a small sample size, plenty here were okay with this knowing that there were so many loopholes with nothing proven to suggest aryan was guilty but they were perfectly okay with him being behind bars for few weeks. not to mention character assassination like “charsi, druggie” being used regularly.
Even someone like Saket who i thought was pretty sane minded but he had no interest in if Laws were being followed.
And mind you, this was a case of someone being framed and there was plenty there to notice that but chose to look the other way…

Naveen, you must be joking. NCB is very serious organization and if they arrest someone and charge with serious sections like drug trafficking and drug peddling without an outa of proofs and court rejecting them on the face is such a huge insult to them. They just wasted so much of public money, court time and efforts for nothing. This is 2nd time after Rhea where they tried to use section 29 to pin them as drug peddlers and both the time High court rejected them flatly. Both times it’s Sameer Wankhede who has been made NCB just to do this dirty work and hasbeen in NCB for less than a year. Both times fake and cases which can’t stand in the eyes of law. So basically arresting anyone without much proof and court laughing at NCB and scolding them and kicking out the allegations. If that’s not wrong, I wonder what else is? Please come out of SSR justice mode where you went against whole Bollywood to boycott them. You want everyone to become puppet or else face such fake allegations?

you should have done the IHG where if you spend $4000 in first 3 months, they give you i think like 150,000 points which is like $1,500 points but it’s for vacation mainly but even cash may be higher than most other offers.
That’s what i got couple months ago. Tickets to India will be covered fully when i try to go next year.

If the VFX work is planned to be completed as late as March, then i am skeptical of the April 14th release date. Will all VFX be completed satisfactorily by then? VFX works usually gets delayed now and then.
Anyways, April 14 is a good release date and hope the film gets completed in time. Also hope we dont get a third wave in India in the meantime.

However, it has now come to light that initially, the makers had decided that there would indeed be a romantic angle for the track of Salman. In fact, it was Salman and director Mahesh Manjrekar who revealed this bit. At the trailer launch of the film last month, when a journalist asked about this aspect, Salman had said, “He’s a much better character on his own. Crossed 180 cr, but soon it will reach the level of 1 cr daily collections or less. With Netflix premier coming up, it may be difficult to touch 200 cr. Most probably will land up with 195 cr or so.

Sooryavanshi is maintaining its strong run at the box office with collections in the 1.75 crore nett range on its third Monday. The film is on course to be the highest third week collections ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer. The drop is 45% on the third Monday but the Friday collections were boosted by 15-20% by the partial holiday on Friday.

The trailer starts with Shahid Kapoor, who once used to be a popular cricketer but isn’t doing anything professionally currently, asking his wife for some money, after which she denies. He takes his son to his cricket training when the kid asks him to give him a cricket jersey as a gift on his next birthday. Shahid, who is “struggling to make ends meet, wants to fulfill his child’s wish” but for that, he has to face his “heroic past.”
Stuck between avoiding his old life and the desire to fulfill his son’s wish, Shahid Kapoor approaches his coach (played by his father Pankaj Kapur) and decided to re-enter the game in his thirties.
Jersey has been directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also made the original Telugu film.

I think Jersey has turned up really good as a film. Heard a lot about the Telegu original, so this is likely. Unless they have a good film in hand, they wont be squeezing in its release between biggies like 83 and RRR.
Both may be about cricket, but 83 is about winning the World Cup while Jersey is about winning the Ranji Trophy. Sometimes the underdog does win – so we will see.

Hearing that KGF is postponing to June. If the planned vfx comes out ok, i am predicting 150+ cr in 4 day weekend and 225+ cr extended week one of 8 days. First 300+ cr film after pandemic and chances of 400 cr total cant be ruled out.

Also I think it’s early to assume the market is normal.
Pre covid definitely LSC would be a handful of movies targeting 400Cr.

Agree. Even aamir will not dream that total. To be practical, I will be happy if it crosses 100 crores first and then 200 crores.
It is not a Hirani film like 3 Idiots or PK.
If the film is average and not mass, then even 100 crore will be difficult.

Its still 4-5 months from now. I think it will be close to normal then. And its AKP production after all with Aamir as the main lead. My expectations are based on quality at the level of Lagaan, TZP and Dangal. I am sure Aamir is in control here. Given the original material LSC is bound to be an emotional film and Aamir’s EQ is the best in the industry imo.

One thing i am sure is it perhaps wont do 50 cr on any single day in the opening weekend. But it can do 40 cr on average over the first 4 days due to the long holiday weekend factor. Thats 150-160 cr over the weekend. If wom is great, it can average 20 cr from Monday to Thursday for 230-240 cr week one.
100 cr week two snd 50 cr week 3 can take it to 380-390 cr. In that case 400 cr total will come by.

Lagaan and tzp were not massive grossers. So it really depends if LSC is a box office type tent pole film or targeting to add to his list of good movies. Obviously he’ll want both.

Post Ghajini, Aamir’s good films have been all ATGs – 3I, PK, Dangal. If LSC is as good as we shud expect from a FG remake, then box office is going to be great imo.

First Clash Post Pandemic: Satyameva Jayate 2 Holds Edge

The first boxoffice clash post the pandemic will be seen this week as Antim – The Final Truth and Satyameva Jayate 2 release. Satyameva Jayate 2 is releasing one day earlier which gives the film an edge because for one day it will be a solo release and it will have a four day weekend compared to the three day weekend of Antim – The Final Truth.
These things hardly matter if one film is superior to the other but when the content is at a similar level then an extra solo day over the first weekend makes a big difference. The makers of Antim – The Final Truth should actually be releasing on Thursday as well so then it becomes a level playing field.
Satyameva Jayate 2 is a sequel of Satyameva Jayate released in 2018 and it took a huge start of around 20 crore nett on a national holiday and also did very well in the final run thanks to the start. Whether the actual film was strong enough for a sequel is another matter and the initial response here will tell the brand value of this franchise. The film did see pretty good satellite results also.
Antim – The Final Truth would not really a be much competition for Satyameva Jayate 2 but with Salman Khan dominating the trailer of the film it gives the film a different position in terms of the boxoffice. There is also the fact that today that due to awareness of the audience they know that the film is not a Salman Khan starrer like a Bharat or Radhe. Twenty or thirty years ago the awareness was much less and these sort of star extended guest roles took films to safety.
Both Antim – The Final Truth and Satyameva Jayate 2 are also catering to the same audience in the same circuits and this will be an issue especially when the market has just got going a few weeks back. The industry will be expecting solid totals from both films on Friday but it will be more about a combined good total. You will actually have three films including Sooryavanshi all aiming for the same action Hindi belt audience.

10-15 cr for SJ2 on Thursday. On Friday the combined total from SJ2 and Antim will be 25-30 cr.

Mumbai
Mumbai is average as of now for John Abraham starrer. We saw the city was on a rampage mode for Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi. Of course, the buzz of that film was on another level. As of now few shows here and there are filling fast. Spot bookings to play a big role.
Delhi-NCR
The capital region stays all blank for the film and there’s no single filling fast show. This region is known for mass movie lovers. Also, John‘s previous films have performed well here. So, expect things to get paced up by evening.
Bengaluru
Bengaluru too stays in the green zone (all seats easily available) as of now. Spot bookings may pull off a wonder.
Hyderabad
Hyderabad is somewhat similar or slightly better than Mumbai. John Abraham’s all previous films like Batla House, Satyameva Jayate have performed well here. So another great start is expected for the actor.
Ahmedabad
After going full throttle for Sooryavanshi, the city is staying slow for Satyameva Jayate 2. All shows are in the green zone here.
Chennai, Pune & Kolkata
Chennai is showing around 5% shows in filling fast mode, while Pune and Kolkata stay low. Pune is mostly known for spot bookings, so expect a good turnaround in the city by tomorrow.
