  17. Totally a depressing Sunday. But full marks to Pakistan and congrats to the team for an astounding win. They were clinical and ruthless and India was defensive from the word go. I can understand that it was India under pressure and never Pakistan but still, this will be an embarrassing defeat from India; considering that this is a wicket-less win for Pakistan.

  18. It seems Kohli lost his cool — if he ever had one — when asked by a reporter as to why Rohit was in the team. And he answered, as per his nature, : What do you expect me to do? Do you want me to replace Sharma?”

Why wasn’t Ishan played today replacing Sharma? If anything Kohli should have learnt from Dhoni, it is risk-taking. Dhoni was ready to show the door to Tendulkar and Dravid!!!

I feel that Kohli — thanks to the drunkard Shastri — is getting into a shell; where, no, matter what the circumstances of the game demand, he would run down to Rohit and his yes-men…He is not ready to take bold chances…

    • Its is a fighting loss for India. They did try after the initial setback to post a decent total.
However it was not enough more so due to due and sensible and once in a life time batting by Pakistani openers. They are playing for their pride after the drubbing they received when teams left them dry.
      Yeah…who knows?
I am looking at a hopeful situation here. Jayshah knows that i am the eternal optimistic and he is jealous of me for this.
      My hope is,
India does have a knack to start a series with a loss, and then from the kickback received after that loss regroup and perform. So am hoping for a strong comeback in the next important game against NZL.

    • Very graceful. It is quite uncanny and whether you believe it or not, I had the same discussion with a playing cricketer last night…when Rohit went to Babar and started the talk of kneeling, I immediately knew there is a high, higher chance that India will succumb. It seemed like the news, social media, took a lot of hits on the team. Of course, we can say sitting on our arm-rests, oh they are professionals, they can take any pressure, they have therapists etc., etc.,but then….

  21. These are all pro player making lots of money and are best of best. Yes, we can debate on this player should have been taken, this one should have been dropped, etc. but at the end of the day, all of these players are pro and good enough that’s why they’re in team India.

Putting up 150 is not a bad total. It was decent.

I don’t have issue with us losing, it’s just getting to me that at least one wicket was not taken.

Not sure why Shami is getting trolled, it’s not like india lost in that one last over by shami. The result was pretty clear even before shami last over started.

Gambling industry probably made a fortune on this one game. Bets are not just on win/loss, there’s how many runs will be score by each team, by each player, wickets, etc… They made money on just about every parlor.

And I support him when he says some idiot Indian commentator asked who are these Rizwan and Babar? “Abhi samajh mein aaya, yeh kaun hai?” I will completely support him for that: If an Indian cricket commentator can say such third-rate stuff, what can you say? SA was completely right in pulling him in up.

And I would NOT support WY statement when he referred to religious BS as something he would regret in the past and compare it with a husband-wife heated argument. He has years, years of experience in cricket. He KNOWS that India/Pak cricket is charged. I will NOT forgive him. If a zealot like Inzamam makes that statement — who tortured the only Christian in the Pak team, Yousuf Youhana, to come and offer namaz – before start of a play, I can understand. But never, ever players like Akram, Akhtar, Abbas and many more who are such terrific cricketers loved by Indians.

  27. I had another question about T20. I know debates and discussions have been around that by being exposed to international players, their fitness regimes and tactis, Indians have learnt. But then, how would you explain Azhar’s terrific fielding, Sachin’s total devotion to fielding [find me more than 5 instances where he has misfielded or dropped catches], and of course, the cheetah Jonty Rhodes and to an extent, the oft-forgotten Robin Sharma. How did they give importance to fielding and fitness? Or are they mere exceptions?

    Like

    • Robin Singh? original finisher for sometime in ODIs?

Fielding in Azhar and Sachin days was more within certain body reach. In new era, that reach has increased. Catching sometime in new era is atrocious especially at night with dropped catches. Now almost everyone dives and stop boundaries, I don’t think I had seen that in old era except some Australians and then Srilankan mimicked them.

      Like

      • Yes Robin Singh sorry.

If you are talking of people jumping over the shoulder-boundary passing over catches like Cotterel, yes, that’s a different athletic standard. But still, my point is we had it in us. Why were Prabhkar or Manjarekar or anybody weren’t as good as Azhar or Sachin?

        • Robin Singh was better than many as he was born and brought up in west indies and then moved to India around the age of 20. So, all his cricket training and coaching was done overseas. Indian fielders were not diving during 80’s as the grounds were not good enough and they can seriously injure themselves. That slowly changed in 90’s and later. Robin Singh was good but it was for another reason and he even played like international player.

Kohli and Rohit were in terrible form before the tournament so this is not so shocking. And even Rahul’s form is gone at the main time. Other batsmen are mostly sloggers. From yadav to pant to Pandya to Ishan. IPL caliber players and flat pitch bullies. Do not keep selecting based on IPL performance where the ground is smaller and even international bowlers do not put so much effort like they do when they play for their country. BCCI screwed up for the money and this is one of the most embarrassing tournament for India.

Someone needs to remind the current selectors that the team that won in 2007 was full of under 27s (except the 29 year old Sehwag) and the likes of Sachin, Sourav and Dravid were dropped for this specific purpose. T20 must be treated as a testing ground for upcoming talent who can play fearless cricket without much expectation (just what T20 demands). Making a 34 year old Rohit Sharma the captain is a farce. Sharma needs to take over the ODI format till the 2023 world cup and allow the under 25s to form the T20 core base.

  79. Ashes: Both Australia and England are going through a rough patch that would have their board worried. With Australia, it is the sexting controversy of Tim Paine after Sandpaper gate. Who will be their next skipper? and next wicketkeeper? For England, Racism is a big concern they need to address soon. Plus health of key ashes players as well

    • Good 105 by Iyer. If we stuck to Shivaay’s strategy of giving a long rope to the oldies, we would never unearth fresh talent. Albeit, there were many rested and a few injuries. What happens when Kohli is back? I hope they don’t drop Iyer now to make way for Kohli.

    • Every country has different conditions. SO one test doesn’t make sense. NZ and England have similar conditions; Australia and SA have bouncy wickets. India/Lanka/Pakistan assist spin. I think best of three in different location or lottery way of selecting location should be chosen.

      • Tosses and conditions should also be factored in the WTC. Bangladesh will beat even the champion Test team in their own backyard if they win the toss. Bat first on a crumbling wicket and let their spinners do the job in the 4th innings is their template.
