The advance of Doctor Strange – In The Multiverse Of Madness went into overdrive over the weekend and showed brisk sales over Saturday and Sunday. The film had already crossed an advance of 10 crore nett before the weekend but now its stands at around 20 crore nett.
The film is going to take a huge opening with South circuits leading as the three bigger ones (Nizam / Andhra, Mysore and Tamil Nadu) are expected to collect 3-4 crore nett each. Spiiderman – No Way Home collected 33 crore nett late last year but that might be a push as Spiderman is a bigger brand than Strange and also as a film Spidey probably has more for the masses.

Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness includes multiple Marvel characters, both returning and new, and if rumours come true, newer versions of familiar characters. It also introduces the Illuminati from Marvel Comics, which is quite a bit different from its real-world counterpart.

Doctor Strange 2 my take a 30 cr opening in India, based on the advance bookings. But i dont see it sustaining at Spiderman NWH level. Will probably run in theaters for a week or 10 days at max.

Film-making nowadays is partly about how to make something without offending. It is complicated. In Bruckheimer’s heyday you could broadbrush international stereotypes and not care if it hurt anyone because the films were largely aimed at the US market…

Hollywood surely knows how to place their theatrical trailers. MI7 trailer is launched just before the release of Maverick and will be attached to its prints. This is more than a year before the release. But hey, its bound to hit the eyeballs of every Cruise fan out there in this world as they catch up with Top Gun. Now, Top Gun may not be able to do as much as Dr Strange 2 at box office ($800M and running), but this is great marketing targeted to the specific fanbase.
Bollywood shud learn how to place their theatrical trailers. They just release it one or two months before. That way KGF 2 did a lot better by releasing a 2 min teaser more than a year before which built up the hype. And the hype was such that even Aamir Khan had to push back the release of his long awaited LSC. But did any big Bollywood release attach their theatrical trailers with KGF2? That would have been more effective in reaching out to the theater going audience than launching the trailer on say an IPL final or attaching it with Prithviraj prints.
If YRF wants to properly cash in on the comeback vessel of Srk, Pathaan trailer shud be attached with LSC to built up the hype from now itself. LSC will open as well as any other year end bollywood release, so why not cash in at the moment? Pathaan, with a Tiger cameo is bound to work v big, as will Tiger 3 with a Pathaan cameo.
