I was working on my annual Oscar predictions, and I somehow also ended up doing a side project on the films I saw last year. Here’s a snapshot of my film viewing in 2022.
I saw a total of 180 films last year, at an average of 15 films a month and roughly 3-4 films a week.
My most preferred genre was Drama, 95 films seen belonging to the genre.
93 of the films I saw were in the English language, and 86 of them were from the US of A. Of the 180, only 58 films were actual 2022 calendar releases. The other films were from many years over several decades.
The Top 5 films that I saw last year were-
AYYAPPANUM KOSHIYUM
THE BURMESE HARP
FLEE
LICORICE PIZZA
THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK
My Top 5 theatrical experiences were-
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE
PONNIYIN SELVAN: PART I
RRR
THIRUCHITRAMBALAM
TOP GUN: MAVERICK
Other films that are also at the top of my viewing experience-
In the list, have seen Licorice Pizza, RRR, Greenland, Top Gun – Maverick, Once upon a time in America (long time back). Like Top Gun -Maverick; Greenland was lacking something and probably something similar to Gerald Butler’s own “Last Seen Alive”, that is not tight screenplay and too many cinematic liberties. I was ambivalent about Licorice Pizza; parts were really good but total was less than the sum of its parts.
I saw more movies in hall this year than n last 5-7 years ; RRR, Kantara (Kannada), Top Gun Maverick, Rocketery , 777 Charlie(Kannada), Bhrahmastra.
