A very mediocre trailer. The only good part was the opening shot of Devgn with temple bells and the dance sets. Tamannaah looks super-hawt.

Public all over the world can make a crappy movie or crappy movies hit. I mean look at all the Adam Sandler hits in U.S but Sandler never shouts from the rooftop that his movies will gross 100M even before they go on the floor.

TCD – e-g-zactly! but irony is that SK gets away with this shouting from the rooftop and rest assured he will actually walk away with 100cr+ = BB – unless paying public chooses otherwise – he will keep making such films and keep shouting and keep getting BO hits

This is the flip side of 100 crore business. Every donkey(sorry for insulting the hardworking animal) will join the club irrespective of quality. The educated middlelasses have started patronising this stuff because their kids enjoy the cartoonish characters. Thus we get assembly line products from the likes of Sajid Khan.

Dude, Didn’t expect this from Devgan, This is the lowest of the low, Looks like some kind of spoof on Himmatwala, Paresh rawals enactment of Kader looks to be in a real bad taste here, I honestly dont see it as a tribute but a spoof, Not saying paresh is a bad actor, just it shouldn’t have been approached the way it shows in the trailer, Bad, really bad.

I agree that the trailer is rather mediocre but the original was as kitschy a masala as it gets. Today one can enjoy it only for its badness and a few dance numbers

And that’s exactly what I was looking forward to from this trailer as well, Not a big fan of Himmatwala, but did enjoy it while growing up, Having said that, I was expecting sometihng different, Here I feel they have made a spoof of Himmatwala (just my opinion). Like i said about paresh rawal, It doesn’t look like a tribute to KK but feel they have made fun of him. Again, I could be completely wrong here, Its just the way I see it.

This film may or may not be entertaining, but most commentators on this thread seem like all they ever want to watch is Lincoln, Capote or Synecdoche New york. Doesn’t hollywood churn out Scary movie series or Austin powers. They made an Avengers which was a comedy if you look for a story. The comments show disgust towards the attempt to make such a movie rather than just showing like/dislike towards the product.
Criticism is fine until it becomes a habit.

Avengers by any standard was a very fine film. In fact it was better than TDKR.
Do agree with the rest of your comment but even here a better film can be made. We have had Ghajini, OUATIM, RR, Dabangg and even Singham- all these are decent films in the same genre. Having said that I am still confident that this shitty remake will be better than the original which was Masala at its worst.

Paapass, the criticism here comes for the cockiness that it portrays, especially coming from SK who claims that there is NO ONE ELSE who can make better Masala cinema than him. If you just google up his interviews in the last few days, you will see what I am talking about. Confidence is one thing and cockiness is another. His claims dont show at all what the final product comes out to be. There were, are and will be masala cinema, which we all enjoy from time to time. But the trailer of the above product is just a complete C grade film made with a BIG star. If there was a lesser star there wouldn’t have been any takers for this.

Agreed Sir, Devgan is really robotic here (even though the movements are robotic), He is doing it as if he’s got constipation. lol. And who is this chick, gosh she is horrible? How did she ever make it in south. (Sorry, But judging her only on the basis of this song, can’t say how she is as an actress). I am a huge fan of Sri’s so no matter how good she maybe, I maybe a little biased here. Any of your fav sri movies/moments? Thanks.

the credit (or discredit) goes to the ones taking the slaps (the audience), not sajid. remember when david dhawan was a comedy hit machine? neither does anyone else. his career went with govinda. when the tide turns, sajid will be obsolete too.

Yeah but David at his prime was way way better than Sajid anyday. Govinda acted brilliantly in some of those movies & generally those movies had a decent script. Sajid is nothing but a truckload of shit & Himmatala stays true to the same.

i agree that dhawan at his peak was way better and a lot more original. and he had someone like govinda to lift his material too while none of today’s stars who are doing this stuff have the ability to make it work. my point was how people can have string of successes and then become suddenly irrelevant when tastes change, so sajid’s fake confidence is just a byproduct of the success he has had so far and has nothing to do with having mastered some kind of formula. especially when a number of other people are doing well on the same terrain.

Among the South Indian actresses the ones I find really pretty are Ileana and Anushka (liked her a lot in Vedam. Would have loved to see her in Rowdy Rathore since I felt that she did a better job than Sonakshi in the Telugu original). Also if dressed appropriately I find Nayanthara very hot (thought she was scorching in that bikini in Billa).

The original is fun in a certain bad way as were many of Jeetendra’s Southern films during that period. It was about a certain moment. These films cannot be seen in a vacuum otherwise they’ll come off as horrible. Which they are anyway but to get the ‘cult’ bit here a certain perspective is needed. I certainly enjoy this stuff once in a while. But the remake idea is the most pointless one here. Always thought one couldn’t fall lower than the original in some ways but Sajid Khan can probably achieve this without breaking a sweat.

I read this short interview extract from Ajay Devgan — and DO NOT appreciate his remarks on ‘intelligent film critics’ and related matters. He is free to act in a remake of a campy cheesy masala film from the eighties, free to act in a film made by a loudmouth Sajid Khan- — but he has no business running down ‘intelligent’ film critics as frustrated film makers. Bharadwaj Rangan, Maithili Rao and so many others –these people are simply film critics with a certain sensibility, same as a section of film viewers. Ajay Devgan has stopped being part of sensible cinema, that’s his prerogative –but he cannot hid behind such flimsy excuses.

Shah Rukh Khan wants his 12-year-old daughter Suhana to become a film actress when she grows up.
“I hope she (Suhana) becomes an actress. I want to see her on big screen. I am proud of my daughter. I would love to see her as an actress,” SRK said.
The superstar is often seen tweeting about his children – son Aryan and daughter Suhana – who are seen accompanying him for IPL matches.

Having said that the old school like the Kapoors never allowed their daughters to enter the bad film industry. As Babita was a divorcee, her daughters got a chance. And unconventional Kamal Hasan’s daughters had no barriers per se.
And O.P.Nayyar’s granddaughter, a bright cardiologist is trying to enter bollywood. What a waste of that medical degree! She was a fullbright scholar at Baltimore and a fashion model.

From a recent Femina cover story– We ask him if he would be ok with his daughter Ira entering the film industry, ‘Why shouldn’t I be? If it’s good enough for me, it’s good enough for her,’ he shoots back.
It was a good article cum photo spread of Aamir in Rajasthan, but it is only available in print version. Still, here is the cover.

Both Suhana and Ira are pretty girls, but I hope their dads will not subtly push them towards films. These kids have enough money background to afford jobs that would help the world, jobs that may not be lucrative, but can help make the world a better place. Middle-class girls have no option but to take up jobs that fetch money. Girls with cushioning of money, they should dare to strike out paths that will help people.

So both the Khans have no problems if their daughters want to act in films. As fish takes to water, these kids cant resist showbiz. They will be directors if not actors. And they will always have family backup. The example of Esha Deol, daughter of Hema, who could not make it big. And Sonakshi is doing nothing great.

“jobs that may not be lucrative, but can help make the world a better place” There is nothing wrong with wanting to make money though behind the camera can be equally lucrative..something about being famous…money cannot buy fame…hence industrialists/doctors/investment bankers want actor wives (ambani/nene/etc). Larry Ellison’s (oracle) daughter is also in movie making business (I think she is 27) and if I am not mistaken she financied movies like zero dark thirty. Whatever it is, parents should’t decide on their child’s career…..I don’t see how this statement makes aamir/SRK feminists…their daughters after all wouldn’t have to face casting couch….

Aamir has been termed a feminist for different reasons, mainly of course for his SMJ show which featured womens’ issues; and there is also a second season being planned. But I have read enough interviews from him over past few years to understand that the guy is in fact feminist in his thinking; he has always talked about the influence of the women in his life –mother, sisters, first wife with whom he is still friends, second wife, aunt, cousin, the lot.
Of course he isn’t the only feminist around. there are many ordinary Indians , fairly liberal and pro-women/not against women’s progress. Last week I attended the wedding of a neighbour, a Muslim family’s 3rd and youngest daughter. The father has never complained about not having sons; has given good education to all his daughters, and the 3rd has always been his spl favourite. Wonderful soft-spoken family, so different from the cliched portraits in popular media, especially when painted by certain groups. There is areal India, so different from caricatures.

You hate him or love him – the guy will tell you that “I am going to rob you of Rs. 200 for the multiplex ticket” and he will do so easily. And masala entertainment is the flavor of the country at the moment so no one is gonna complain here except those who went to see sajid’s film hoping that it would be on the lines of Satyajit ray 😉
