Happy Ending has fared very poorly in week one as it grossed 19.50 crore nett in week one. The film which cost close to 60 crore to produce and release has grossed less in week one than small budget films like Yaariyan, Mardaani, Highway and Hate Story 2.

The film is running on limited shows at multiplexes in week two and will not even do 25 crore nett lifetime business. The business was low over but circuits like CP Berar and CI were ridiculously low with collections in the 80-85 lakhs nett range each over the week

The film joins the list of major disasters over the last few years liek Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Tezz, Joker, Game etc..

There were three major hindi releases in the form of Ungli, Zid and Zed Plus and all opened poorly. Ungli opened less than last weeks release Happy Ending and will be depending on a rise in collections in the evening to get past the opening day collections of Happy Ending.

Zid has a relatively better opening in mass centres but has released on lower collecting theatres as Ungli has the better collecting single screens. Zid could have done better if it had been a solo release or the main release of the week.

Zed Plus is very poor with multiplexes hardly having any footfalls in the morning. Hollywood had a major release with The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1 but like most Hollywood release lately the opening was lacklustre though better than the Hindi releases at multiplexes.

  3. Ungli Zid Day One Business Happy Ending Day Eight Business

Ungli grossed poorly on day one giving it little chance of box office success. the director’s last film Kurbaan in 2009 had also fared poorly and the way Ungli is going it may not even reach the business of Kurbaan. The approx figures of the weeks releases are as follows.

    Ungli – 2,75,00,000
    Zid – 1,00,00,000
    Zed Plus – 10,00,000

Zid fared slightly better in places like CP Berar, CI and Nizam but its business in multiplex dominated circuits was a disaster. Zed Plus was very poor all over.

The business of Happy Ending come down badly with its second Friday collections looking in the 25 lakh nett range.

  4. Entire November has been disastrous and for Saif he should coming out in this month as none of this films like Kurbaan, Happy Ending, Bullet Raja etc etc have worked in this month. Now eagerly awaiting for PK.

    • Solo hero game for Saif is over now. Someone who should have cloned his career like Shashi Kapoor, seems to be missing this trick.
His last hope Phantom is releasing with Akki’s Gabbar. The star, who Saif admitted to hate the most because of the way he got roles against him, might not be lenient to him on October 2nd release.

    • No one will come forward. It is a religious matter rather than violence against females. If anyone comes forward, he will be labelled as communal. Only muslims have to condemn it, be it such small incident or extreme terror filth like ISI. But, we never see them coming forward. Because, as per muslim ideology, muslim is not criminal whatever crime one does. But, all other religious faiths are their enemies by default.
Even in bollywood, no big muslim actor raised voiced against it be it social activist like shabana azmi , javed akhtar or any of 3 khans.

this is obviously not a freaking ‘muslim problem’ dude. This is a ‘man’ problem in a region that is totally male dominated. Shame on you for being so superficial and very ignorant; yet sadly there are many others who have the same thought process as you. I don’t see why a ‘muslim’ should have to come forth and condemn this action…if you are a decent human being..you condemn it!

Sad that Gauhar went through this crap. Just shows society is still far behind where we would *like* it to be. Does Gauhar wear scantily clad clothes? Yes. Does she deserve to be slapped/sexually harassed? Hell no!!! The dude needs to be in jail for a long long time and just needs to be educated..just like a lot of Indian/Pakistani men apparently.

and 2nd is is this whole fu$%$ing notion that anytime a person(s) of Islamic faith does something horrible (terrorism) or idiotic (like this moron who slapped Gauhar) that Muslims all over the world or just prominent muslims need to condemn it. Why? Does it make them a terrorirst sympathizer if they dont? I mean it’s bleeping obvious that terrorism has no place in our society. It’s bleeping obvious that you don’t publicly slap a woman (or even a man!) for what they are wearing! I don’t need to hear from Aamir Khan or the Imam of Kaaba to get the Islamic point of view on violence or any other things that are not acceptable in our society.

        • In your eagerness to contrive a sense of Hindu victimisation you’ve clearly ignored all of the very obvious and widespread outrage around this incident. It’s been absolutely viral on social media, condemned by both the national and the international press and denounced by any number of Bollywood personalities. And guess what? The many non-Muslims criticising the act (from Arjun Kapoor to Madhur Bandharkar to Farhan Akhtar) haven’t been called communal! So stop your fraudulent, baseless scare-mongering.

In any case, as an Indian man, did you take to the streets in protest when it was revealed that thousands of Indian women die of sterilisation every year because of a callous, systemic disregard for female life by the country’s population planners? As a Hindu man, do you publicly apologise for every misogynistic statement made by Hindu politicians, panchayat leaders or god men regarding rape prevention? So why do you think that Muslims have nothing better to that spend their lives denouncing every crime against women committed by every man who happens to belong to their religion/ country?

Gauhar: I am slapped for wearing a skimpy outfit
Liberals: Was the guy a RSS guy?
        G: No
        L: Was he a Khap?
        G: No
        L: So Wear decent clothes

If only 1% of people who outraged when Shiv Sena minister forced fed someone in Roza could stand for Gauhar Khan, but no, religion >>> women

Feel bad for Gauhar Khan @mihirssharma & @waglenikhil couldn’t find issue in her assault. @Joydas did, but then diluted by dragging Muthalik

  5. Interesting interview with Nadiadwala…

BOI: Talking about Khans, do you think our younger generation has the same charisma?
The way the audience would go crazy for the Khans isn’t the same for these kids. They are very hard working and they are good at what they do. And some of these kids are even better performers than the Khans were back then. But the hysteria over the Khans and their charm off-screen isn’t there for these kids. It is about making the right choices and decisions and also the way they choose to live lives that is important. It was very difficult to choose a life like Salman’s… in a moment saying you become a director and you become a producer. It is not easy to take these decisions. To take a decision in this industry, that there is a producer who has been producing for 27 years and asking him to turn director and direct his film, that too at the top of his career, where he has 20 other directors in the queue. Ye adayen kahan se layenge ye bacche, ye jigar kahan se layenge. Aur ye jigar lana zaruri nahi but jab ye deewangi hoti hai na toh woh chehere pe dikhti hai, chehere se camera pakadta hai aur camere se woh audience ke pass jaati hai, aur audience ko ye dikhta hai.
I’m not saying it’s not possible for them but this will take time because these youngsters are damn good and very hardworking. They’re very professional, dedicated and focused. Their work will make them good actors but to become a superstar, they will have to wait for some more time.

BOI: Why do you think the three Khans still rule Hindi films?
They came with a bang and won the hearts of the people with some outstanding films. Aur ek baar koi itni bedardi se kisi ke dil mein ghus jaata hai toh usko nikalna mushkil ho jata hai. Shah Rukh ki first film thi Deewana, woh jo bike pe aaye in the song koi na koi chahiye, he won every individual’s heart. With Salman and his first film Maine Pyaar Kiya, the moment the audience watched him in the scene where he says, ‘main kaam karoonga aur paise kamaaoonga’, he won the hearts of all the ladies. Aamir Khan did the same with Qayamant Se Qayamat Tak. After that, they have all consistently performed fantastically on screen. Plus they are outstanding off-screen.
Salman is a superstar and 70-80 per cent of his earnings go to charity. Bolna bahut aasan hai par jeb se cheque phaad ke dena padta hai charity mein toh acche acchon ki haalat kharab ho jaati hai. Even if it’s for the sake of publicity, when you actually have to give a cheque of an amount which is major part of your earnings, it is a big thing. He delivers blockbuster movies and just walks away without blinking even once. He doesn’t even throw a party. I mean, he delivers a hit and walks off to host Bigg Boss. So ab toh unke liye aadat si ho gayi hai.

I have an inkling that the so-called 100-200 crore club is like a big, big BO sham of our times..

    Picture this:

A film like Gadar which supposedly did 70 crores created mass hysteria sometime around 2001, when ticket prices were reasonable, about 125-150 at multiplexes.

13 years later, inflation has struck but not so much that films with BO appeal not even 1/10th of that of Gadar are grossing more than 3 times that film. Because the rise in multiplexes apart, the ticket prices mustn’t have risen more than double the amount. and if the inside information is anything to go by, all these films are running to empty houses in many multiplexes in the first week itself.

For a film like HNY, I doubt if I came across a soul in person who expressed the desire to watch it. how it ended up making 40 crores on day 1 is simply beyond me. a 10-15 crore day 1 should be more like it!

Everything screams SHAM these days! We all are living in a world of make-believe illusion. Nothing is what it seems!

    • don’t know if its a sham or not but I think you are mistaken about the multiplex capacity of 2001. I saw my first multiplex movie in 1998 and then in 2002. At the time of Gadar/Lagaan..there were hardly any multiplexes. There were very good to bad single screens and that’s where most of the audience was.

It was only after Lagaan/DCH that multiplexes became more popular.

  10. Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is set to make his television directorial debut with Damien, which is the follow-up to classic horror film The Omen.

Damien will be Lifetime’s straight-to-series drama and will star Merlin star Bradley James in the titlular role, reported Deadline.

Kapur, who has helmed films like Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, took to Twitter to share the news.

‘Remember the classic film ‘Omen’? We’re doing the sequel ‘Damien’. Very, very exciting script,’ posted Kapur. He will be the executive producer of the first episode as well.

Produced by Fox TV Studios, the six-episode Damien follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 film who has grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him.

Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny — that he is the Antichrist, the most feared man throughout the ages.

Damien, slated to premiere in 2015, is written and executive produced by Glen Mazzara via his 44 Strong Productions.

Ross Fineman, who developed the project alongside Mazzara, executive produces through his Fineman Entertainment.

Pancho Mansfield also serves as executive producer.

  11. Satyam we need a thread about Sanju biopic.

From today’s Hirani interview – why he selected Ranbir to play Sanjay Dutt.

Filmmaker Raj Kumar Hirani shares a special bond with Sanjay Dutt, the star of his ‘Munnabhai’ films. That is perhaps why Hirani is all set to direct the biopic based on Dutt’s life, which consists of a plethora of highs and lows. In a media interaction for his movie ‘PK’, Hirani spoke about this new venture and why he selected none other than Ranbir Kapoor to play the lead.

He said, “I used to think I knew a lot about Sanju’s life, having worked with him on the ‘Munnabhai’ films. But when he began narrating his story to me, I actually found out that I knew so little! For 25 days, me and my co-writer Abhijat Joshi went to his house around 5 PM, and would end up staying late, sometimes till 3 in the morning, listening to his life story. I felt that his story should be told to the world. Be it the drugs, his run-in with the underworld, the court case, his relationship with his father Sunil Dutt, his upbringing and his relationships, the story is dramatic life. Making the film within 3 hours will be quite a challenge.”

Hirani added, “Ranbir is very close to Sanju. I cast Sanju as ‘Munnabhai’ because he has got this tough exterior and is soft inside, Ranbir has the same innocence. He is young, and has a softer side to him. A star at a young age, sort of fits the bill for Sanju’s life.”

Talking about his current project ‘PK’ which is all set to hit the screens on 18, Hirani said, “”PK’ is more of a satire, you will laugh, and definitely, also shed some tears. It’s very relevant in today’s time.”

However, the filmmaker maintained that they would rather keep the promotions low key. He said, “We are doing most standard things, but we aren’t going to TV shows to promote the film. Film promotions are mostly organized to draw in audiences during the first 3 days of the opening weekend. After that, a film has to run on it’s merit. I don’t think we always need to promote our films so much.”

But Action Jackson is on a whole new level, everyone has absolutely destroyed the film. Apparently it’s highly regressive and abusive. Indicine’s Review is probably the most negative review I’ve ever seen from them
