Phantom Box Office Opening Report
Friday 28 August 13.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Phantom had a slow start of around 25% on average with circuits like Rajasthan and CI being pretty low but multiplexes in bigger cities are better. The opening is much better than Saif Ali Khan’s last release Happy Ending but that film opened low and did not even pick up in the evening.
The potential of a pick up in the evening will be better for Phantom as these type of dramas with hardly any music hold more potential for the evening audience rather than the youth and mass audience who patronize in morning shows. The evening shows will be crucial as if it can come out with a respectable day one figure then the benefit it can get on Rakshan Bandhan can give it a good number on Saturday
The film will find it hard in mass ircuits as opening numbers are low and its hard to see that huge pick up it needs there but Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, East Punjab, Kolkata and Bangalore can do better depending on reports. There have been a security issues in Gujarat over the past few days with cities being closed and that could affect the film a little though Gujarat does not look as one its better markets on the opening.
The other release Kaun Kitne Paani Mein opened to a very dull response all over.
Brothers To Finish At 74 Crore Nett
Friday 28 August 2015 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Brothers has fared very poorly as it grossed 7.75 crore nett in week two and took its two week total to 72.25 crore nett. The week on week fall is a huge 88% as collections crashed in all circuits.
The business of the film will stay below Gabbar Is Back in all circuits except Mysore and Tamil Nadu / Kerala. It will also be below Baby barring Bihar, Assam and Odisha. The film is out of most theaters this week and is not likely to reach even 75 crore nett for its lifetime business. A circuit like Mumbai will finish 7-8 crore nett less than a film lije Drishyam and its not as if Drishyam is a hit in Mumbai.
The film is probably the biggest disappointment of the year so far outside Bombay Velvet. The film was never going to be a huge grosser due to genre but a 74 crore nett final number is a case of the worst case scenario coming true.
All Is Well Flops Manjhi – The Man Mountain Steady First Week
Friday 28 August 2015 10.45 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
All Is Well fared very poorly in week one grossing 12.50 crore nett. The film did not open well on Friday, showed growth on Saturday but nothing like it should have after such a poor opening and then collections fell badly on Monday. The film is a big loser and out of most theatres this week.
Manjhi – The Man Mountain fared better than All Is Well comparatively. The film grossed around 9 crore nett in the first week and held up well on the weekdays on low collections. The collections on Thursday were better than All Is Well. There is a good chance that its lifetime business will be better than All Is Well.
This won’t be enough for the film to be a plus but for a film which would have been expected to be total loss to come out with a loss of a crore or two is a respectable result.
The Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Rishi Kapoor-starrer, All Is Well hasn’t impressed the critics much, but the film has been running as no big film released along with it. The film has garnered a total of Rs. 18.91 crore in its first week. The film, which was made on a total productions of cost of Rs. 28 crore (Cost of Production being Rs. 21 crore and Promotions and allowance cost being Rs 7 crore), has already earned a small profit after selling off the satellite and music rights.
As a source close to the production house mentions, “All Is Well earned Rs. 18.91 crore over its first week and after selling the satellite, music and overseas rights for Rs. 25 crore, the film has already made a profit of Rs. 11.01 crore overall (as the total production cost is Rs. 32.9 crore). T-Series has earned a overall profit of Rs. 4.9 crore as the box office share of T-Series is Rs. 7.9 crore (out of the Rs. 18.91 crore).”
However, the audience response hasn’t been great and with Phantom releasing today, the collections are going to dwindle further.
given the Fri opening and the way it did over the weekend it’s perversely remained somewhat stable at that very low level. With a decent opening it might have been ok. Of course it’s at such a low number that it won’t add anything beyond this point.
Its gone from theatres today…I don’t see it playing anywhere…Didn’t think even the most pessimistic of forecasts would have predicted a sub 20 crores lifetime number for this one
yes its been sad to see this film failed, went to see yesterday and it was 5 people on screen 16,abhi needs to sit down take a break for 6 months and refresh and focus on producing his own film and well counter-budget..
we expected saif miserable run but will katrina suffer from this?
I think it will determine the position because the film is already banned in Pakistan and the bad wom it will be debacle,we shall see on monday of the collection, poor ratings everwhere
Meanwhile, Kaun Kitnee Paani main received all positive reviews.
But, release size is very limited. It is satire which works for me. Sadly, It hasnt released in u.s. though.
This will NOT set box office on fire. Infact given Saifs current form & the theme (that surpisingly may not have enough takers even in india!) will be pleasantly surprised if it hits 50 crores
But who cares!! Loved Happy Ending and sounds will like this ..
Well done Kabeer khan, Saif and Katrina
Katrina as Nawaz Mistry
Saif as Daniyal
The new action promo
Want this to work for Kabir Khan ..like the guy
Wanted to watch it this week but seems v unlikely …
You failed at both section. Firstly it will easily cross 50 cr and make close to 60 cr. also you wanted it to work badly. You put your life at stake to make it work and were fighting it as if your own life. But it failed at boxoffice badly a clear disaster or flop at least.
Phantom Picks Up In Evening Shows
Saturday 29 August 01.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Phantom picked up pretty well in the evening and should record business in the 7.75 crore nett range. The business in the morning suggested lower numbers but as can happen with films that are low on music and youth entertainment, these types can do better in evenings and this has happened with Phantom.
The collections are similar to Baby and better than Drishyam and both these films had more face value. There is a long way to go for the film but this gives it a platform to build on and with Raksha Bandhan on Saturday it should get a solid jump though ideally it should be a big jump.
The film does have low numbers in CPCI Rajasthan, Gujarat and Bihar and if these jump big on Saturday and Sunday it will really set up the film but that will be tough so will be depended the metros, still the film is in a much better position than it was in the morning.
Phantom Has Decent First Day
Saturday 29 August 2015 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Phantom had a decent first day as it grossed 8.25 crore nett day as major cities managed to collect pretty well. The collections in Mumbai and Delhi / UP were pretty solid with 2.75 crore and 1.75 crore nett respectively. Mysore also did well with around 50 lakhs nett.
The collections could have better in circuits like Gujarat, CP Berar and Bihar. Still it had a decent improvement in the evening and 8 crore nett plus number is a good result for the film especially from where it started the day. The opening is better than Drishyam and has also edged past Baby which were similar type of films and both had limited music.
Saturday is crucial for the film as it is Rakhsha Bandhan and the growth should be a bit more than normal. The film should be looking at a 30 crore nett weekend and can go higher if it can grow 40-50% on Saturday.
AIW was just bismal,it does not matter who is in it,if the concept is good then the film will run, when Queen was released it had bismal openning, then what happened, abhi is just unfortunate….
here is simple explanation of films doing well:
If the concept and wom is good then any slow starters will get going,i,e.
Queen that opened to 1100 screens across India, managed to collect approximately Rs 20 million (2.0 crore) nett on its first day.
Kangana Ranaut starrer Queen opened to rave reviews, but it failed to garner audience’s attention on the opening day. The morning shows received around fifteen to twenty percent occupancy. It was only in the evening that the shows picked up.
then second week this happens,
Queen
Vikas Bahl’s directorial film about a simple girl from Rajouri Garden in search of herself after being mercilessly dumped by her fiance just a day before their wedding, emerged as a surprise winner. Due to moderate publicity, it failed to get a dramatic opening. Its box office collection spiked to Rs 21.20 crores in the second week, all because of appreciations pouring in from all corners. Amitabh Bachchan sent flowers to applaud Kangana, Aamir Khan profusely appreciated the film in his tweets while Shah Rukh Khan, who plays a Delhi boy is his next film, liked Queen so much that he plans to take tips from Kangana. In its fourth week, the film is still going strong as it is running housefull in smaller cities.
abhi is just unfortunate, unless if you are 3 khans because if for srk, salman or amir fils to be released people blindly will que up and see because of attraction and expectation, rest like abhi, saif and others have to work hard and to have certain element of the film and WOM is vital……….
Phantom had good collections on day two as Raksha Bandhan gave it a boost in places like Gujarat, North, Rajasthan and MP. The collections will be nearly 50% up and come out at around the 12.50 crore nett mark. This would take the film to 20.75 crore nett in two days which are good figures especially as the start was not so strong.
Friday evening and Saturday has been helped by the holiday factor a little and the film is certain to go over 30 crore nett for the weekend but it would be a good sign if the film can at least match the Saturday figure and finish up with a 33 crore nett weekend.
That would mean a good to decent weekend and more importantly a good trend going into the weekdays. The film has doubled up collections in some mass centres as Raksha Bandhan is a big holiday there and openeing was weaker in these areas.
Probably points towards a 49-50cr first week and around 75-80cr lifetime. I don’t know about the budget. But doesn’t look disastrous, consideration the limitations of the genre.
I had previously planned to watch AIW for last night but with all the negative feedback around, I ended up watching Phantom and found it pretty underwhelming. I like the genre but found the movie a bit disappointing.
Saif’s highest grosser is Race 2 at around 90-95 crores. This looks like it has a chance of beating that. IMO the 3 factors that contributed to this opening are 1) Katrina’s presence 2) Kabir Khan’s goodwill after BB (A lot of people I know are comparing him to Hirani after watching Phantom and BB lol) 3) the hype/controversy w Hafiz and Pakistan
And once again another Katrina movie isn’t a Flop, her BO record is just amazing. Her last flop was 7-8 years ago- Yuvraaj. I want her to do a female centric role/movie w a newcomer and see how that does.
90 cr was gross figure. Do t confuse it with nett. Race was something around 60 cr nett and his biggest was lak around 65 cr. anyways it is too early to say it will cross even 60 cr. i think it is destined to fall badly and we have welcome back coming next week.
Btw BOI is as usual reporting producers figure for Khan movies, their figures and taran’s figures are same sofar.
It cant be coincident while they have
40% lower total for all is well
9 cr less figures for brothers
Still 9 cr less figures for Drishyam evenafter increasing 5 cr after first week
12 cr difference for Bahubali as long as they reported before going silent to avoid embarrassment of admitting dubbed movie earning 100 cr contrary to their commentary.
I’m not confusing Gross with Net at all. Race 2 is Saif Ali Khan’s biggest grosser. It came out in 2013 and made about 95 crores. Also FYI, even if you take Race 2 out, LAK isn’t Saif’s biggest grosser, it is Cocktail which made around 75 crores in 2012.
And Phantom isn’t going to fall to the extent that it won’t be able to even Double its opening weekend because it showed growth Friday Evening and it’s Sunday is the same if not greater than its saturday which was a semi holiday.
So You are talking about worldwide gross. In that case, there is no way cocktail is less than 100 cr ww with 75 cr india nett. Race was 60-62 cr nett in india.
Phantom had good collections on Sunday again as the film will record business in the 12.75 crore nett region again which is similar to what it did on Saturday. The weekend wil be a healthy 33.75 crore nett which is a good result for the film. A film like Baby which was similar but had a much bigger star like Akshay Kumar grossed 30 crore nett over its first weekend. The film is also way ahead of Drishyam which was also a film in the thriller genre without music. That film had a 25 crore nett weekend.
The collections have held well on Sunday as there will hardly be a drop after Raksha Bandhan on Saturday which was a holiday in most parts of the country.
The fact that Saturday was a holiday and on Sunday mass centres are strong anyway has meant that mass circuits have respectable numbers over the weekend despite the content being more for multiplex audience. It will be the big city multiplexes which will have to carry the film forward from Monday onwards and the trend is looking pretty good.
Taran’s figures are itself 33.18 cr weekend, and BOI is even higher than that just because saif has khan in his name?
For non-khan movies, their figures wont be more than 27 cr at this stage.
“‘Baahubali‘ will be screened at Busan international film festival on Oct 4th, 7th and 9th. I’ll be attending on 4th (sic),” Rajamouli tweeted on Saturday.
An international version of the film, which is 23 minutes shorter than the Indian theatrical version and edited by Vincent Tabaillon of “Incredible Hulk” fame, will be screened at the festival.
The film, which is about the rivalry of two brothers for an ancient kingdom, will be screened in the Open Cinema section, which will also feature Salman Khan’s “Bajrangi Bhaijaan“.
Starring Rana Daggubati, Prabhas, Tamannaah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty, “Baahubali” is jointly produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni.
For a film where not many were willing to bet their money, Phantom has managed to surprise quite a few, especially the cynics who were expecting it to become another thorn in the flesh for Saif Ali Khan. However, audience likes what they saw and the action packed narrative by Kabir Khan coupled with wonderful production values by Sajid Nadiadwala meant that Phantom went on to find an escalation in footfalls.
In fact this only makes one wonder how so many from within the industry are more than willing to spoil the chances of a film coming from their own fraternity when instead they should be supporting it. Of course a sheer bad film needs to be discounted and ignored. However, when a film like Phantom – for which word of mouth has ranged from being ‘theek-thaak’ to decent to good to very good – arrives, it is surprising to see some scathing comments coming its way, even when audience is willing to give it a dekko.
Nevertheless, the game is not yet over for Phantom. First and foremost target for the film is to go past the 30 crore mark over the weekend, which is now a cakewalk. In fact if the film maintains the same collections as Saturday, even 35 crore is possible, which would be fantastic. Post that, it needs to be stable through the weekdays as well so that by the time it comes towards the end of week, it is in a safe zone. Welcome Back arrives on the coming Friday while Hero releases a week after, which means Phantom has to make the most of it this week, so as to keep sailing through in weeks to come.
It’s not surprising (infact it’s perfectly reasonable) for a pakistani to feel phantom maybe problematic given the promos –esp if not having seen the film & hence try to ‘boycott’ it!
Though it’s still uncanny how it’s been banned in Pakistan AT THE BEHEST on a criminal under serious terrorism charges.
The fact that his ‘human rights’ are suddenly so imp is really KAFKAESQUE in proportion
However it’s NOT reasonable to get a somewhat MUTED uncertain response on this from some voices from WITHIN india or form those BELONGING to india.
These people don’t seem to have made their ‘choice’ yet…
In a certain way, if one looks at the people associated with phantom
Sajid nadiadwala
Saif Ali khan
Katrina Kaif
Zeeshan ayub
And above all Kabir khan
There’s a certain STATEMENT Kabir khan is making here
And those accepting to be part of this have made–
That they have MADE A CHOICE, a CLEAR choice
and there’s NO confusion about it
The same canNOT be said about those some others
The CORRIDOR of uncertainty still persists for them
The other day this week I saw clips of the overcelebrated viral kohli get dismissed in a test match on both occasions
Outside the OFF STUMP
So what’s the point in all the flat track bully ism and ‘aggression’ —if u r a class batsman u can’t fail repeatedly where it matters
U need to sort this corridor out!
It’s NOT a case of OVERPROVING their ‘patriotism’
It’s a case of getting it right when it matters and not to be uncertain when and where it actually matters
In the CORRIDOR of uncertainty…
Disclaimer : this is not implicating or derogatory to a group, race, class of people but just a commentary of individual opinion(s)
LOL on the disclaimer !!
On the rest, I can say this the two people who are unbiased and are Adarsh liberals by conviction, not by fashion ( and are equally critical of the other side) are Satyam and Q.
I laugh when Indians have problems with movies like Gadar and Baby , but then the same kind of people are busy signing petitions yet again, this time for silicon valley !!
not even sure if I’m a liberal. Quite often I’m too radical to be one! Which doesn’t mean I’m a pinko commie! LOL! My radicalism doesn’t extend in that direction and is much more about questioning a framework which forever divides every debate into right and left.
The hit film Phantom, which features a group of Indian operatives hunting down a Hafiz Saeed-like terrorist after the Mumbai attacks, has sparked angry exchanges on social media among Pakistanis who are divided on the movie. Veteran Pakistani actor Shaan Shahid, who has acted in several films with patriotic themes that indulged in India-bashing, launched an online campaign to ban actor and model Mawra Hocane after she tweeted Phantom was against terrorism.
Mawra, who has reportedly signed three Bollywood films and was recently in India for a shoot, tweeted on Saturday: “#phantom is against terrorism. A terrorist can’t belong to any country. A terrorist is a terrorist.”
As her comments generated a storm in Pakistan, Mawra deleted her tweets but by then Shaan, who has made a point of refusing offers from Indian producers and once refused to allow Bollywood tunes to be played on his TV show, launched an online campaign for Mawra to be banned. http://www.hindustantimes.com/bollywood/pak-actor-mawra-hocane-s-phantom-tweets-kick-up-a-storm/article1-1386107.aspx
Whats new new? Pakistan is hub of terroism and they shamelessly defend it. Still, people on this forum as well as sickulars in india have problem with road name changed from aurangzeb to abdul Kalam road. That shows the mentality what they want to idolize. But india want ideals like abdul kalam and not terrorist/dacoit like aurangzeb. Arent people ashamed to call him emperor?
Btw, ‘hit film’ phantom? I dont see it crossing 65 cr even by boi numbers which are same as taran’s numbers. Its budget cant be less than drishyam, and with similar figures it will also be a flop.
Phantom had the seventh highest weekend of 2015. The gap between Bajrangi Bhaijaan and the next best is simply huge and it basically tells the story about the box office today where the potential for festive event films is so much higher than the others. The top opening weekends of the year so far are
The film was boosted on Friday evenings due to the holiday on the next day so the hold in real terms could be better than 50% but that only the next couple of days will tell.
I don’t see how Phantom can offend Pakistan. Infact, for a chest thumping patriotic Paki, this movie is a must see. Think about it. The movie is basically an indian fantasy about how they would have LIKED to see things done after the horrendous attacks on 26/11. Take a film like Zero Dark Thirty which was based on ACTUAL events regarding Americans going into Pakistan and taking out Bin Laden. A movie like Phantom is actually an acceptance by the filmmakers that India does not have the balls to go into Pakistan….but man wouldn’t it be great if we could. Though the movie is fill with some lauhgable scenrios like Saif getting thrown in jail for murder by pushing a going off the bridge! It was also hard not to think of Titanic towards the end of the movie…..but all in all it’s a decent movie.
On proper analysis, it will struggle to make it to 73-74cr. Surely Katrina and Kabir Khan have their own contribution and the final result is still going to be quite underwhelming. Also means that Saif’s range on his own right now is pretty much below the 60cr range he had a few years back.
Sajid Nadiadwala’s Phantom hits the bullseye at the box office
By Bollywood Hungama News Network, Sep 1, 2015 – 16:26 hrs IST
The year 2015 has been one of mixed proportions for Bollywood especially in terms of box office collections, while on one hand we have seen some rather unconventional films striking a chord with the audience and making it big at the BO, there have been other that were expected to do well, but for some reason failed to hit the mark. However, Sajid Nadiadwala’s recent release Phantom featuring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, despite the initial sluggish start has managed to hit the bullseye.
In fact, Phantom managed to amass Rs. 33.18 crores (Friday Rs.8.46 cr, Saturday Rs. 12.78 cr, Sunday Rs. 11.94 cr) over its opening weekend a feat that was said to be a rather farfetched task by many a trade analysts. However the overall hype surrounding the film, the director’s recent success with Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the rather patriotic feel to the film and most of all the producer’s hit streak with back to back successes in the form of Highway, 2 States, Heropanti and Kick, went a long way in boosting the overall collections of the film. For those who are yet skeptical about the success of the film, Phantom managed to surpass the previously released Akshay Kumar starrer Baby that was based on a similar topic. Apart from this, while most releases usually tend to show a drop in collections on Mondays, Phantom, on the other hand managed to sustain its growth to a large extent.
Probably the sleeper hit of the year Phantom that has been receiving positive reviews from the audience has been shown a healthy trend at screens with a growth not just in business but also in overall footfalls at cineplexes. While the next three days play a crucial role for this film, that is based on the book ‘Mumbai Avengers’ penned by Hussain Zaidi, the positive response the film has been receiving will more than definitely make Phantom this year’s biggest sleeper hit.
Kabir khan is an ‘honest’ person and this shows in his films.
After his pakistan trilogy till now, he just HAD to end with phantom…
Obviously due to various reasons (some not related to the quality of the film) this was NEVER going to be a big money spinner –but that was known (& even to Kabir khan probably).
The director doesn’t lose his FOCUS throughout, the editings crisp
The locales authentic (or reasonably authentic) with honest detailing
Be it ‘Chicago prison’ or Beirut or Pakistan..
The background music is consistently good
As for the lead pair—
What’s interesting here –The role of Katrina may well be played by a guy /second hero– she participates in the action, shootouts etc
She was truly treated as an ‘equal’
There’s no sleeping around, no boning around
It’s just a COINCIDENCE here that katrina is a female really
And this works for the films FOCUS
there’s a NO TEMPTATION to SLIP IN a Chickni chameli
I missed afghan jalebi but in yeh film I think katrina is NOT in the song
Unlike others, I liked the ending and I feel the CLIMAX ( or anticlimax) is a strong point of Kabir Khan
The TITANICesque END was APT to this film
SUCH is the FOCUS thoughout (both of the director and daniyals character!)
Till then she’s just an accomplice, co-conspirator …
I liked how It was literally only while hanging on to dear life in the ocean that It really dawns on saif that katrina is a woman/an object of desire or capable of longterm attachment
By then the ‘jobs done’ but in a way it’s too late…
Na humaara hua
na tumhara huaa
Ishq ka ye sitam
na gawara hua …
I think the one surprising thing here is that Taran’s numbers and BOI’s numbers are very much in the same range.
This doesn’t happen very often. And at times, the disparity can be huge. For instance for Baby, Taran and Koimoi had it at around 96cr while BOI have it at around 81cr.
So, the good thing is that at least in Phantom’s case, there isn’t much doubt about the real BO results.
It does seem that the film will settle around the 70cr mark and the result does look a bit underwhelming. The production values look quite high and the movie has taken quite some time in the making. I remember seeing a still from the Beirut shooting around 2 years back.
I guess the positive spin probably is because a lot of people expected some kind of washout. But the results are very much like Drishyam and DDD. Far from disastrous, but very underwhelming.
At the moment, I’m doing the Katha remake, where I play Naseeruddin Shah’s role. Manish Paul will play Farooque Shaikh’s role and Sharmila Mandre will play Deepti Naval’s role. Khalid Mohammed has directed it.
When I signed Katha, I was very nervous. I cannot compete with Naseersaab; he was my teacher. So I looked at doing the role in another way. The characteristic of the characters are similar, and yet not the same. My character is very innocent and cute. He is different from Naseersaab’s take.
The lower you go the more pressure builds up in the air which you can’t equalise. Physically, it was the toughest scene. The scene comes towards the end of the film.
You are doing Vishal Bhardwaj’s period drama Rangoon, which also stars Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapur. What kind of preparation is going into it?
Vishal just wants physical fitness.
He just said work out a lot. We start shooting in November.
The film will probably close the week close to the 47 crore nett mark which is decent but the second week will see Welcome Back release and it will be important that the film manages a decent hold from Thursday to Friday.
All India Six Weeks Comparison Bajrangi Bhaijaan V PK
Wednesday 02 September 2015 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Bajrangi Bhaijaan has gone ahead of PK again in the sixth week. It is the first time it has bettered PK weekly figures after the first week. It shows how various factors affect films as Bajrangi Bhaijaan has not held as strong as PK since week two but still the sixth week comes out better. It has a lot to do with the competition you face every week in the run. Weaker competition or no competition enables successful films hold better. For flop films it makes little difference.
The final gap between Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK will be around 22 crore nett. Around 10 crore nett is down to Baahubali in South India and also because the film did not perform well in Tamil Nadu / Kerala where it was 5 crore nett less than PK which is a huge amount for such a small circuit.
The rest 12 crore and more is down to ticket pricing and more competition in its run than PK. Below are the weekly figures for Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK for the first six weeks.
Once again….you are giving way too much importance to words from a website which is all about numbers! BOI can dance around BB vs PK all they want but no one is disputing their numbers for either BB or PK.
Again, what good is that ‘agenda’ when it does not translate into fake numbers?? Again, BOI can give as many excuses as they want but the bottom line for a movie’s BOX OFFICE is it’s numbers. Everything else is irrelevant.
Thecooldude.. actually we are. I don’t buy many of their numbers if not all. Why? Because they often deviate from the producer totals. Not that I have any faith in the latter either but what is this alternative source they have? So the distributors (or whoever) give one set of figures to the producers and then secretly give something else to BOI? Gimme a break!
Even beyond this when commentary is so hyper-partisan in all sorts of ways it’s a bit absurd to say that the numbers are completely reliable. So someone is utterly dishonest doing one thing but is painfully honest doing the other! Specially when the two are related. So a dishonest gangster might be very sincere and honest with his friends and family but those are two different spheres of his existence. Here you have a site offering numbers and then interpreting them. It defies even elementary common sense to suggest that they’re utterly dishonest doing the latter but completely ethical doing the former!
At least this is not a fairy-tale I believe. The day that someone can show me what their alternative sources are for the numbers we can have another debate going. But this hasn’t been forthcoming in at least a decade if not more! But yeah I do see people popping up on forums from time to time saying ‘oh they get them from the distributors’. Yeah right! of course how do these people know this with such authority? This too is never explained. So Joe shows up on this blog or some other or whatever and says BOI are honest because they get their numbers from the distributors. None of these things is ever established and we never discover who Joe is either!
You want tot keep believing their numbers are honest. That’s your prerogative. But if you want to go on a mission defending their numbers you’ll need something more than what you have currently.
This is for the first time that Banerjee has produced a film for his assistant director.
“I’m producing ‘Titli’ because I couldn’t direct it! I wish I did. But unfortunately, I couldn’t have bettered Kanu’s intensity, talent and vision. So this was the next best option,” Banerjee said in a statement
Calling it “one of the best directorial debuts ever”, Banerjee said: “‘Titli’ takes off where ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ leaves off and then throws it out of the ballpark.”
Behl’s successful association with his mentor, Dibakar started in 2007. He began as Banerjee’s DA (director’s assistant) and script supervisor on “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye” and became his chief assistant director and co-writer on “Love Sex Aur Dhokha”.
Talking about his fruitful collaborations with the acclaimed filmmaker, Behl said: “It has been an interesting association with Dibakar over all these years and I’ve had much to learn.
“We’re both excited and looking forward to ‘Titli’ release. It’s a film made with all my blood and guts in it and I’m keen to find out how the audiences will react to it.”
Produced by Bannerjee and presented by Yash Raj Films, the gritty family drama is set in Delhi. Starring newcomers, Shashank Arora and Shivani Raghuvanshi, Ranvir Shorey, Amit Sial and Lalit Behl, “Titli” is a tale of a dysfunctional family and a man’s struggle to escape his oppressive family.
The film made its world premiere in the UnCertain Regard section of Cannes International Film Festival last year.
After a successful run in France and Germany, “Titli” is set to release in India on October 16.
These are producers’ figures. Going by these figures itself, First week is 47 cr same as BOI. Second friday will not be even 2 cr, with second weekened possibility of 8cr max. It can make 16 cr after First week which bring total of 47+16= 63 cr.
God knows how BOI is trying to prove it a hit, from day one itself, we have been hearing Good opening, good monday steady , set for good run, set for hit kind of words. While, Drishyam and Brothers they were negative even a day before release.
Drishyam did 65 cr according to BOI, and 75 cr as per Taran. While Phantom will be 65 cr atbest for Both Taran and BOI. Then how come, Phantom is a hit and drishyam a flop. Though, reverse is possible. These are the times when non-commercial medium budgeted venture like Piku needs to make 80 cr to become clean hit.
While, Phantom will find it hard to touch even 65 cr given its mix wom as proved by imdb rating 4.8. Also, it is 68% on BMS which is not a good score on bms, even average movies with good wom score easily 80+.
BOI keeps changing their standards for verdicts, sometimes it becomes average per print, sometime it is cost, sometime it is only about theatrical share, sometime overall revenue, and sometime only gross. They are infamous to defend a given movie to any extent if they decide.
In one word, Phantom is clear flop, BOI is just creating mockery of themselves.

Welcome Back – A Lesser Sequel
Thursday 03 September 2015 13.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Welcome Back will open tomorrow and should open pretty well but its simply not as big as the Welcome sequel should be. Welcome released in December 2007 and was basically a record opening though numbers did not show that as it did not open at multiplexes on day one due to revenue sharing terms. The film went on to be a huge hit, the biggest of the year in some circuits. Not only that the film has been a huge success on television since release which endorsed the its popularity.
These factors should mean an event type film but its missing as Welcome Back does not look as big as Welcome for the public as the cast is weaker with Welcome’s biggest face value Akshay Kumar missing. This seems a big mistake by the makers.
The two biggest franchise films in India, Dhoom and Golmaal have seen an upscale each time but here this is not the case. The film may have been made on a bigger scale but in a sequel but the cast also has to be at least as good as previous film, preferably better. There are very few films made with pan India appeal today but Welcome Back is one film with all India appeal and these types deserve the numbers for the effort but not having Akshay Kumar or someone with an equal star status will probably mean the film won’t fulfill its potential.
“Salman Khan will continue hosting the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ in its ninth season and the promos will be out soon.
Salman is now busy wrapping up Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in Karjat. The entire team will also shoot the promo in Karjat itself. The modalities are being worked out. Hopefully, the channel will take a call and the first promo, in all probabilities will be shot in three-four days latest,” the report adds.
This means that the audience will be able to watch the promos of the show soon. And rightly so, the report says, “The first promo of ‘Bigg Boss 9’ should be out around September 10. The team has designed a concept, in tandem with this season’s setting and arrangement.”

The film should be looking at a 30 crore nett weekend and can go higher if it can grow 40-50% on Saturday.

here is simple explanation of films doing well:

The Corridor of UNCERTAINTY
As a NEUTRAL–I will make some points …

The top opening weekends of the year so far are
1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 1,01,42,00,000
2. Brothers – 47,42,00,000
3. ABCD 2 – 46,16,00,000
4. Gabbar Is Back – 38,95,00,000
5. Tanu Weds Manu Returns – 37,58,00,000
6. Dil Dhadakne Do – 35,34,00,000
7. Phantom – 33,00,00,000 apprx
8. Baby – 29,74,00,000
9. Piku – 24,99,00,000
10. Drishyam – 24,95,00,000

Phantom Has Decent Monday
Tuesday 01 September 2015 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Phantom had a decent Monday as it dropped little less than Friday which is par for the course. The first four day business of Phantom is as follows.
Friday – 8,25,00,000
Saturday – 12,75,00,000
Sunday – 12,00,00,000
Monday – 4,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 37,25,00,000
The film was boosted on Friday evenings due to the holiday on the next day so the hold in real terms could be better than 50% but that only the next couple of days will tell.

Spoiler Alert!

The drop on Monday is quite significant. Probably rules out 80cr lifetime and more likely to settle around 75-77cr mark.

Ps: btw note how as I mention earlier many times –in this sajid film, BOI numbers are nearly same as tarans !
Irrespective of box office–
A sleek film that doesn’t lose the focus

Phantom contd

The film will release in October or November.

Any memorable/tough scenes in Phantom?
Underwater is always tough.
