  2. damn, this is Tintin, essentially an indian Tintin. So a mix of that and a bigger budget Byomkesh. Plus the framing etc is fantastic, which is as expected from Anurag Basu.

This is going to be a family blockbuster.

  5. Looking good. I hope the re shot movie is now worth it. This i guess is the last Disney produced movie for India untill they decide to return.

  7. Barfi meets Tamasha meets BV meets Besharam meets every other Ranbir movie in picture perfect frames? Overdose of Ranbir doing quirky stuff now. Really needs to come back down to earth.

    • This genre if done well has ridiculous levels of potential, it could go either way.

      • The trailer’s appealing and certainly gets one’s attention but I have serious doubts about the film. If you get this sort of [Disney] thing wrong you end up with a true-blue disaster.

        • Agree, but I hope this just works at some level. Jungle book was huge…a bit different, but this genre has legs if done well. Once kids like a movie and it’s adult proof, it’s universal. I’m sure they will mess it up! Casting wise it’s perfect. Disney is full of dumb princesses so Katrina’s the perfect coup!

Ranbir is a bit geeky so that’s good. Heck even Hrithik could do it!

        • fair points.. to be honest the way Hrithik has been acting in those Kaabil trailers he could very easily fit into this film!

        • Hrithik of KMG is perfect!

        • Am I missing something with Hrithik the actor? He arrived spectacularly not as a great actor but at least one of promise. Fiza, Mission Kashmir & Lakshaya were decent enough. But he is massively regressing in these promos to the point of which – what was all the fuss about in the first place? The dashing dancing is scarce.

        • Hrithik is the sort of actor who can never quite grow and shows us everything he has in one film. There are lots of stars like that but what became problematic for Hrithik was a kind of paralysis beyond a point. Taking long breaks et al. To indulge in a quote some are ruined by failure but some are also ruined by success. Hrithik became an instant star with his first film but he didn’t quite know what to do with it. He certainly lost his sincerity after a while. Also the rescue that Rakesh Roshan did at crucial points hasn’t served him well. He would have been better off trying to find his own way. Even if the films worked for him. He tried a lot of stuff but he probably expected to become ‘the star’ beyond a point and that never quite happened. Beyond a point he was clearly overtaken by Aamir and Salman as well. There’s not a hope in hell now of his ever catching them or whoever gets to that sort of position because he’s really tried a lot of genres, even had success at points, but he’s not been in the zone. His last best year was 2006 and even this he whittled away. It’s certainly odd to see a younger star with a very strong initial (on most days) who still wasn’t able to do too much with it. His highest grosser at this point is way behind the highest benchmarks. Not even in the same universe. In short I don’t think he could ever deal with not remaining the post-KNPH star. I also think he has genuine psychological issues at this point or has had them for a while. Just doesn’t feel ‘normal’. But yeah even the KMG deal has left too deep an imprint on his psyche. I do agree with you. He did have better stuff at one point and even when it didn’t do very well he seemed fine in it. Not every star has to be a great actor. they just have to be very effective at what they do. This is precisely the quality Hrithik lost.

I’d also add that you can either be the kind of star who does genre very well like Salman and not have prestige ambitions. Hrithik could have done the Krrish/Dhoom kind of deal forever, with occasional departures into other genres. However he really mixed it up beyond a point and that never works if you don’t have a serious reputation as an actor. At the very least you should be willing to sacrifice on the genre grosses. You can’t really have it both ways. You can’t do Krrish 3 one day and Guzaarish the next! He’s overall had a poor understanding of why the audience loved him in KNPH.

        • The problem with Hrithik is that he had perfect 100% debut and that it was literally 100% everything Hrithik can do in just that 1 movie. From that movie to now, there is hardly any different expressions or acting be it Dhoom 2 or as Akbar(500 yrs ago) or even as Mohenjodora’s Sarman(5000 yrs ago). That perfect debut has sort of ruined his performances as he can’t come with other ‘fresh’ side of him.

  8. The trailer/sneak peek indeed looks good…beautifully shot..to me its more like Hugo meets Barfi (in a good way)….but Basu’s strong forte is emotion/romance connection…so still doubtful if he can pull this off..so many fantasy movies in bolly which looked good in trailers/posters have failed…this could be either blockbuster or disaster…no in between like ADHM

  9. As I said earlier this can surprise the audience. Lot of ‘Barfi’ hangover but if the story can hold interest, this can do well. Basu has stuck to his vision even if it took 4 years in the making and could turn out to be the perfect summer movie for kids!!

  13. There is a bits of Indiana Jones- Last Crusade/Tintin in the trailer and then the influence of Barfi remain fluent. The visuals are stunning.

However, the film actually contains 20 songs, if one believes reports about it. Ranbir and Katrina reportedly converse only through songs. So many songs may end up adversely affecting the narrative.

“I want to work with Katrina Kaif in a LOT of films” – Ranbir Kapoor
    ByFaridoon Shahryar
    Jun 22, 2017 – 12:57 pm IST

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are busy promoting their eagerly anticipated film Jagga Jasoos and they’re being judged with a hyper active microscope. Everything that they say or do is being ‘decoded’ by the gossip hungry media. Ranbir Kapoor in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive with Faridoon Shahryar spoke at length about Katrina. Why he thinks Jagga Jasoos is her best work, how he’d love to work with her and how she egged him on to deliver better performances.

You said at the promo launch that this is the best performance of Katrina Kaif. Why do you say that?
You’ve never seen Katrina like this, it is such an endearing character, whenever she is on screen you will smile because of the things that are happening around her, the kind of energy she brought to the film. Like I found it very endearing, I have never seen her like this before so I am waiting for the audience’s reaction to her performance.

One thing you discovered about Katrina on Jagga Jasoos you never knew before?
You know I always believe that acting is about partnership. You know you are usually acting with somebody and I think the dynamics that Katrina and me have on set and the kind of movies that we have done, it’s like a game of ‘catch’, you know I throw her something, she catches and I throw something, she catches and I have realized that Katrina has always allowed me to shine. You know there are many actors that you work with who are probably very selfish; they want to like come out. But I think Katrina has that amazing, graceful quality where she wants you to shine and I am really grateful towards it. The other two films we did together Rajneeti and Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani, it was a similar process, she wanted me to get better, she wanted me to come out as a good hero so that people love me. And I think that in Jagga Jasoos, she has supported me in the same way

One thing you love about Katrina Kaif?
There is not one thing that I love about her but if I had to pick one thing it would probably be her positivity, her positive attitude, you know towards her work. You know with this film also there are many times that you doubt, but she give you that energy that stand by your work.

There is all this speculation, whether you guys will work together or not, sometimes it is said in jest but jis tareeke se present kiya jaata hai it seems very serious.
I said Yeh kya hai yaar? Will you not work with me? I think people just grabbed something from the Facebook chat that we had done. Like I said yaar, Katrina and my creative partnership is something I don’t want to lose out on. I want to work with her in a lot of films.

    • This has gotta be one of the most complex movie to put on screen, so hats off to Ranbir and Anurag Basu. It looks fun movie but having so many songs also pushes the boundaries. If folks get a flop doing something so drastic I can understand rather than doing a straight forward movie like Tubelight.

I still think if it is not boring and connect to the kids, it can turn out to be huge hit. Am hoping for the best here!!
