Anyone expecting huge audiences for a film like Tenet in India is foolish. Even Inception was a break even & Dunkirk did 30 Cr in 2017. Tenet doing 10 Cr with 50% capacity is an acceptable result.
Vaccines
The AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine is cheapest and most mobile but it has least % success.
Pfizer/Moderna are thrice more expensive but higher % success.
AstraZeneca suggest they could deploy there vaccine to every nook in the world – I wouldn’t get too excited yet. UK gets the first batch of phizer next week it gets rolled out.
Modi has indicated that india will wait for cheaper homemade versions. And distribution is a lot more difficult in the developing world as compared to the developed.
WB bosses are not idiots to open up their entire 2021 slate simultaneously to OTT.
2021 will also be a difficult year. As for indian box office i wont expect decently big numbers at least before Diwali. But then srk has also not been a safe bet since HNY.
The fan in me wants things to normalize by the time LSC releases, but i am really not sure. As for the expectations of the resident Akshay fan for the groundbreaking 2021, all i can say is that it will be real fun. LOL
AstraZeneca Oxford is manufactured in India.
Rest I agree. The vaccines are not a silver bullet at all. 2021 will be a slog but should be better than 2020.
Vaccines will not be needed for everyone. Recent research suggests immunity from sars 2 might last for at least 6 months, if not more. T cells have an ability to keep memory of the pathogen & recreate antibodies at a later stage (in simple language). Scientifically, 25% of the population being immunized is sufficient for the epidemic to come well under control, especially now that cases in India are coming down & there’s been no major second wave despite Diwali (suggesting widespread infection with over 40% of the population already being passively infected & remaining asymptomatic). Either ways, untried vaccines aren’t the best bet for general mass immunization unless safety is 99.9% assured. The 1918 flu pandemic ended without a vaccine and so will this (with much lower toll, and way more hysteria & fear mongering).
Certain immunologists in fact feel the reason sars cov 2 didn’t rampage in the far East is due to naturally obtained innate immunity due to sars 1 way back in 2002. Further giving credential to natural herd immunity over vaccinated herd immunity. Had vaccine r&d not abruptly ended in 2004 when sars 1 mutated to oblivion, we might have saved a lot more lives in the last 12 months due to the availability of a partially effective vaccine.
There is more bad news for OTT naysayers. We saw that in the clash between WB’s Tenet taking the theatrical route and Disney’s Mulan taking the PVOD route, Mulan turned out to be a small success for Disney. But Tenet became a flop and lossmaker for WB with its 350+ M worldwide BO against 200M budget. OTT was the winner at the end of the day.
Now WB is releasing its entire 2021 slate with simultaneous theatrical and pvod, starting with its next 200M tentpole WW84. If WW84 turns out to be a profit maker for WB, its likely that Disney will follow the same release strategy in 2021 to maximize profits.
In Bollywood, if we get a couple of big budget flops in the first half, then it may also adopt HW’s survival strategy.
Wonder what the theater viewing jingoists will say then?
Only fools without appreciation for cinematic grandeur & theme would choose to watch Tenet or WW84 on OTT instead of the big screen. Tenet was a theatrical success in Europe & China despite being in the middle of the pandemic, you can imagine how tge big screen would bounce back in the post pandemic era from 2021 end or 22. Not everyone is an OTT binge watching couch potato with a penchant for mediocre web series. OTT is gonna wipe out satellite Tv, no ways can it impact cinematic viewership in the long run (just like vcrs, dvds & blu rays didnt). Big screen cinema is an alternate medium in itself. Its not competing with OTT as some disgruntled folks like Shekhar Kapur & RGV would have you believe. There’s a reason why the best in the business like Nolan, Tarantino & Spielberg still shoot on 70mm film & not digital. The only reason WB chooses simultaneous OTT for WW84 is thanks to the covid deniers & flat earthers in the US who’ve led to carnage. Tenet results in UK, China & the far east are encouraging enough.
“We’re in the middle of a [global emergency], despite all of us wishing that [it] goes away extremely quickly, like a Band-Aid being ripped off. Everyone we talked to in the medical community suggests that this will persist in terms of consumer behavior and the medical situation for a bit of 2021, if not all of 2021. That’s the first and most important context to say. The reason why is, that’s what has absolutely shaped this decision. And to get to your question about the financials, our belief is that in the current situation, which is highly unusual, by having this release model – which is a hybrid model of theatrical and on HBO Max for the first month of the film’s release – we believe economically first and most importantly, it’s the right thing to do for fans, it’s the right thing to do for exhibition and the right thing to do for talent, considering the circumstances.”
#WonderWoman did around $800M in 2017, and #WonderWoman1984 easily could have done a billion dollar gross in normal circumstances.
It is releasing during biggest holiday period, let's see how much gross it achieves as it will tell how BO will work in post covid19 era. https://t.co/QLy9lTF898
I actually think December is a safer bet than early 2021 when, according to general consensus, we might witness a second wave, mostly in January and February. By this and WB’s statement, where they only see an incremental improvement in the situation that too later in the year, I think Sooryavanshi doing 200 would be a miracle and 120-30 best case scenario. IMO, it’s up to Aamir to give a big blockbuster in 2021. Of course, this is if the content is good, always questionable when it comes to Bollywood these days.
Further proof of how OTT is only gonna be a natural successor to satellite tv as & when it penetrates into hinterland. This has nothing to do with cinemas. Cinemas are bound to struggle in 2021 (just like most other businesses) but in no ways is this the end of the 70mm era as some OTT jingoists & their media cronies have been crying out loud for 8 months. As for Tenet, a 10-12cr lifetime is an acceptable result for this convoluted sci fi actioner when we take into account that Dunkirk did 30 Cr in India in the pre covid era.
Wait for a couple of years and watch. They’re either gonna become plexes or drive in theaters over a period of time. Post pandemic blues are not gonna sustain beyond a certain point (they already aren’t if the Diwali crowds due to Covid fatigue were looked at). The 1918 flu pandemic that had a mortality of 50-100M (when global population was 2Bn) was followed by an era of jazz & movie theater boom in the 1920s. There’s no ways that a pandemic (doesn’t deserve this tag since mortality is less than half of even the 1968 HK flu) with a mortality of 2M in 18 months would lead to these so called “global lifestyle changes” (bogus sociopathic ideas like online learning for school kids who should be out there playing in the mud with their mates or lousy wfh routines in your boxers wherein you mess up both professional & personal life) that fear mongering pharmacists & allopath’s like Fauci have been wet dreaming about over the last 10 months. Moving ahead with precaution is the only way forward, the sooner the better.
Truly the golden era of Hindi cinema. I could watch clips, dialogues & screenplay of such gems till eternity. Near perfection from Raj Kapoor & Nutan, a gritty story of the depressed classes of the post Independence India weaved around a love story, Anari’s a must watch for every Hindi cinema lover (and a reminder of what we’ve lost down the years in terms of content). At the box office the film was the highest grossing movie of 1959 and an everlasting gem. Genius, thy name is Hrishikesh Mukherjee!
Oops!! Second unplayable bouncer for the andh bhakt Kangana fanboy on this forum just as he’s attempting to recover from the disaster that’s Laxmiiiiii 😉
This silly star seems to have finally come to his senses. He is only fit and good for krrish and d2 kind of movies. He shud be doing one such film every 2 years (given his working speed) and is likely to deliver superhits from time to time. Instead he is full of himself and been trying to do different stuffs.
Now in late forties, he seems to have understand his limitations and is picking projects accordingly – Fighter, Krrish 4, War2/Spyverse film. These are all likely to be superhits with roughly 2 cr footfalls each (going by his record so far).
Didn’t find anything silly about him in Super 30 or War. Nailing 2 roles as diverse as chalk & cheese, something none of his contemporaries barring Aamir & Ajay have managed all their lives.
You call MHN, VZ & OSO different from all the junk he’s been doing since DDLJ all his life? He’s make an ideal protagonist for an Ekta Kapoor tele series 😜
You mentioned War and Super 30 as diverse as chalk and cheese, which only Ajay and Aamir have done. Swades is different from Main Hoon Na which is different from Veer Zaara, all of which came in the same year.
By your criterion, how different is War from the usual star turns Hrithik did in KNPH and Dhoom 2 except a few shades of grey and a better plotline?
Raju Hirani was supposed to be the guaranteed BB guy, but then now he’s working with Kanika Dhillon (another SRK protege) instead of Abhijat Joshi, is scary enough. When it comes to SRK these days, no one can guarantee anything.
SRK still running after the successful directors rather than concentrating on scripts. And probably influencing the outcome of all these movies with too much of same SRKism. He should for once forget about box office and work on a good movie (something like flop Swades can still do wonders for him rather than trashy superhit like HNY). Yeah Hirani could be staring at his first flop.
I will still pick SRK’s choices over Aamir or Sallu who are left to pick a remakes (Aamir is now only doing remakes…unexpected but understandable) and Salman only doing sequals.
Only the non Khans, led by Akshay (saying no to sequels and remakes – Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, Bell Bottom, Raam Sethu, Raksha Bandhan etc are all originals), Ajay, Harithik(said no to satte pe satta remake) are trying to do better and diverse.
Valid argument, but then even Akshay’s filmography and roughly his entire comedy oeuvre is mostly Priyadarshan remakes. Think it’s ok for someone with a contribution like Aamir Khan to do a few remakes, where in case of Ghajini, he has a record of bettering the original.
Doing only remakes and sequels vs doing sequels/remakes along with several others are different.
Nothing against remakes, they are needed for various reasons. Just that one can now sense a need rather than a choice.
Aamir is not new to Hollywood remakes/adaptations. In his early years he did a lot of them with varying results. QSQT was blockbuster, HHRPK was Superhit and DHKMN was a hit. Whereas JJWS and AHAT were average at box office. At the other end, Daulat Ki Jung and Aatank Hi Aatank were flops. Lets see where LSC lands up.
Picking choices of an actor whose filmography is punctuated by films like MNIK, Ra.1, Don 2, Dilwale, HNY, JHMS, Zero of late and whose made a career out of karwa chauth cinema over one whose acted in films like JJWS, Sarfarosh, Lagaan, DCH, RDB, 3I, Dangal and directed a classic like TZP? Exactly what I expected from you. SRKs billion dollar career is nothing beyond the shaadi’s and doli’s of Yashraj and Kjo.
Tenet numbers now look bit disappointing after the initial hype from the likes of Kadels. If we forget that then numbers are fine given the circumstances.
I’m not really sure whether I loved it not. Quite a unique experience to be had, that would have been manifold had it been a theatre experience. Repulsive n fascinating in equal measure.
Under normal circumstances a well-made WW84 (as indicated by early reviews) wud b doing 100+ cr nett lifetime on Christmas release in India. Lets see how much it does.
As per today’s discussion, Naveen’s theory says it will do 70 cr; i expect 50 cr; whereas as per Shivaay’s conjecture it wud be 25 cr total.
What you saying ! I am the hottest target in the country right now, target me and you will become media’s favourite, movie mafia will offer you roles, give you movies, filmfare award, shiv Sena tickets every thing. If I were a don you know 72 mulkon ki police mere peeche hoti 👑 https://t.co/wEbMTsl1DW
Excellent interview and esp liked the way Dilip Kumar taunted Saira about the basket full of jewellery. That shows his humble mindset. These people are no less than angels. Also happy that Madhuri is among the few who are still in touch with them. God Bless.
Sooryavanshi has nothing to do with a niche, urban, convoluted sci fi actioner like Tenet. WW84 would be a better yardstick to judge. I still believe Sooryavanshi had a shot at 100 Cr had it released on Xmas with 8 open weeks even at 50% capacity.
Simultaneous release is a farce when 95% of the cinemas are functioning (Warner bros is doing so coz most cinemas in the US are still shut) unless the producers are arm twisting & scamming exhibitors like in the Telugu industry. Hindi cinema exhibitors need to boot the B town scoundrels and now focus on tent pole Hollywood to draw the audiences. Avengers last year was a wake up call for Bollywood and if they do not mend their ways, their cinematic viewership is all set to be overpowered by Hollywood franchises in the near future.
Tenet did good business at the box office considering the pandemic scenario and the fact that the India release is more than 3 months after the initial release in North America and Europe. The film collected around 4.25 crore nett over its first weekend.
The film did go up on each day over the weekend but not like a film for the big metros would in normal times but this may be due to the pandemic as all days saw business mainly done in advance while there was a limited tickets being sold in current.
If Tenet had released worldwide on same day as Friday, collections would have been up by 30%.
However many potential impatient audience watched it on television. Overing for this, he real value weekend collection for Tenet is around 6cr, which is superb.
Dunkirk, the only other film which can be compared to Tenet did 20 cr nett overall in 2017.
Assuming Tenet does 10 cr overall now and considering its fair value to be 15 Cr if it had released worldwide together, it means covid impact is apprpx 30% at the moment in India.
So a 300 cr movie is likely to get 200 cr nett.
100 cr would mostly get 70 cr nett.
This 30% shortfall can be overcome via simultaneous OTT and theatre release where OTT can cover the 30% deficit.
So overall the industry can still do good with common sense and no one upmanship.
50% reduction in capacity & audience paranoia has to be taken into account. Dunkirk did 30 cr in 2017, Tenet will do 10 now. That’s 1/3rd at fair value & 1/4th at adjusted gross value. A potential 300 cr will do 80-100 cr at best in a 50% capacity scenario, that with 6-8 open weeks. Yet a good enough gamble that Sooryavanshi ought to have taken on Xmas in my opinion (simultaneous OTT release when almost all theaters are open in India is out of question, unlike the US where cinemas are shut).
Collections are 1/4th of regular with 50% capacity & pandemic impact keeping audiences away. 4 Cr would be a 16 Cr in regular circumstances. A 10 Cr lifetime right now is equivalent to 40 Cr on a normal day which was par for the course considering Dunkirk did 30 in 2017.
How is Mirzapur rubbish? He’s got the main role – King of Mirzapur – an underworld don. This was released in 2018 and shot in 2017 and he would be a fool to reject such a powerful role in Mirzapur way back then! Yes, folks can dislike it but season 1 is considered very successful and actually one of the shows which laid the path for such web series in India!
Shows like Family Man, Special Ops and the recent Aarya are the one’s that are gonna draw audiences to OTT (producer hyperbole aside). Mirzapur is a disgusting, crass, sadistic, cheap & pathetic excuse for a gangster drama (guys like Divyendu & Ali Fazal masquerading as gangsters, the kinda clowns who’d deserve kantaaps the moment they open their mouth.. lol). What’s more surprising is the silence of the so called feminists on such a show that graphically portrays a housewife being raped by her father in law, her step son in law and then showing chopping off genitals of the bloke who satisfied her the most. I’m sorry, but if this is what’s gangster dramas are about today, I’m happy to stick to my “filmy” Gangajal’s, Apaharan’s and Satya’s. Mirzapur is the kind of puke that does not deserve to be on any medium whatsoever, let alone one that’s accessible to 10 year olds.
Had huge expectations from Motwane and this concept from years.. but the trailer is rubbish. Looks forgettable. To add to this, Anil Kapoor did something similar in Fanney Khan. Deja vu feeling!
Truth is stranger than fiction, fiction is always more convenient than truth. Perhaps if we had him this year he’d have found a cure for the novel coronavirus without the need of a hasty vaccine. One of the best television series ever, binge worthy even after all these years! Especially a must watch for every Sherlock Holmes fan.
With several new scripts offered almost daily, i can understand why some one who is hard working like Akshay Kumar cannot say no to the best ones. Most of these scripts are well researched and Akshay is the first choice because there are very few stars who are ready to do different roles and diverse genres without the pressure of the box office numbers. Guarantee is what everyone wants. Akshay is the guarantee.
Akshay Kumar, who has now changed the way how one can live in pandemic, is on a roll since June. Just showing everyone to press the gas for the best times to come. #Switch
He is prolific for sure and signs average scripts without any reservations. He has 10 films including this one to release in 2021-22. Lets see how they do in the end. None of them looks likely to be a 300 cr nett grosser in my books.
Question sbould not be if they would make 300 cr?
Question is if it will be a hit/superhit and there is 100% guarantee on each. Last flop that Akshay gave was in 2015.
Next questions is would the film be good and something different to offer…. most likely.
Good films? Only Akshay film since 2016 that got 8 rating in imdb is Airlift. So just 1 good film in 5 years inspite of doing 20 films in that time period. So no brownie points there. Nor is he capable of delivering a big hit or 300 cr nett grosser.
See we can always go into this debate of quality, imdb rating etc.
Fact is most films are highest grossers in its genres.
I take it that he may never give 300cr and its absolutely fine. Its not needed with the volume. Even industry wants consistent and regular hits. Best thing are super hits like Baaghi 2 or Mission Mangal which is like jackpot for all parties. Low cost and exceedingly hit ROIs. All time Blockbusters like Dangal or Bajrangi is not easy to make and remains once in a decade movie amd clearly Akshay doesn’t fit here.
Also i am not aligned to Shivaay’s line of good movies. His criteria is defined. Clearly he is not cut for relaxed cinemas which is made for fans, regular movie lovers.
Not everytime i want to see high concept movies. I also need Garam Masala or Kesari or Baaghi on certain days.
The fact is Aamir gave 5 All Time Grossers within a span of one decade. Its only once in a decade or lifetime thing for idiotic stars who dont have good cinematic sense but keeps doing films for the sake of making money.
Mission Mangal may be a superhit by ROI, but its a pretty crappy film.
Let’s not go into IMDB; even Rustom has 7.1 there, Padman 7.9 and Jolly LLB 2/Toilet has same 7.2. It’s no valid parameter to judge quality of film. I’d say Airlift, Jolly LLB 2 and debatably Padman are the better films he’s made, though Good Newwz was quite fun.
In some ways, I’d think all the big Akshay films are jinxed, only Kesari and 2.0 were big successes and he himself is no thespian (though he has consistently improved). This model of cinema is paying off for him and everyone involved, a decent bunch of audience seem to be entertained. Though the average quality can be improved, there isn’t much to complain.
“Akshay Kumar, who has now changed the way how one can live in pandemic”
LOL…
I’m living and working along with billions of other people fine without getting any inputs from akshay.
My kids and millions of other kids are adjusting to school without any imputs from akshay.
akshay having signed so many films is not anything new. Sashi kapoor had signed 50 films at one point.
Govinda had signed 75 films at one point of which he got out of 50 of them after Dilip Kumar scolded him that he will kill himself working 3 to 4 shifts a day.
” only Kesari and 2.0 were big successes ” ~ none of them are big successes. Kesari is a Semi Hit grosser for a film of that magnitude (even a small time Super 30 grossed the same while Akshay’s own Good News did much more; Tanhaji humbled Kesari with a similar magnitude & budget). 2.0 bombed in its original versions and was a commission earner in Hindi. As for Akshay’s films, nothing barring Baby, Airlift & Jolly LLB 2 in the last 5 years has been impressive for me.
Mass = Sadakchaap kachra film loading! The was a time when mass was synonymous with Andaaz to Awara to Mughal e Azam to Deewaar & Sholay to even Border. How times change in the so called Gen Z digital era 😉
South superstar #VijaySethupathi is no longer a part of @aamir_khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's #LaalSinghChaddha… The actor has apparently left the film amicably due to his date issues… The Advait Chandan directorial will be wrapped up after the last big schedule next year!
The Hollywood movie I’d most love Aamir to remake is Tootsie. It’d be a perfect sendoff of his ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ image and even better, a satire on Ekta Kapoor Indian soaps.
If LSC works well with its audience then it may as well be Ammir’s swansong blockbuster. He is getting slower with time and does not have age anymore on his side. Might as well transition to elder roles after LSC. And definitely no more remakes. Even Vikram Vedha remake is not confirmed at this point.
I wouldn’t call LSC a remake of Forrest Gump, just like Aamir-HIrani adapted Five Point Someone to 3 Idiots and Stranger In A Strange Land to pk, Atul Kulkarni would adapt Forrest Gump the novel. It’s not as though Hoffman was some spring chicken in Tootsie, and it’s not a role that’d need him to prepare like Dangal. Anyway, it’s just a fantasy, which sounds fun.
My point is why’d he need 3 years for this film, unless he’s going through a sex change operation twice. He ought to get a bit quick with things now. Maybe Akshay can give some tips LOL. His version of a big film is shooting for 80 days.
Aamir does things at his own pace. LSC is taking a lot longer to shoot than even the original FG (even if u drop the 5 months they lost in between due to Covid).
What u r proposing will fit Akshay the most. He can quickly make that remake in 2 months, specially after doing Laxmii.
A classic, if remade should take lesser time in shooting.
One cannot ruin a film unless you mess with the script.
If 2 years have gone into pre production then i see no reason why shoot should take so much time esp when 1 more year is allocated in post production.
Having said this, if there is one actor in India who deserves the allowance is Aamir Khan. He has proved time and again esp with Ghazini and Dangal, how committed he gets and it shows on the screen. If not for Aamir, both the movie would not have remained the same, esp Dangal as it was also an original work.
“I wouldn’t call LSC a remake of Forrest Gump, just like Aamir-HIrani adapted Five Point Someone to 3 Idiots and Stranger In A Strange Land to pk, Atul Kulkarni would adapt Forrest Gump the novel”
Don’t know why folks still talk imaginary stuff when everything is official. The writer of Forrest Gump novel is Winston Groom. But they are not remaking from the novel. They are remaking the from the movie which had screenplay by Eric Roth, who is now credited as the screenplay writer for Laal Singh Chaddha as well. Atul Kulkarni always mentioned he saw the movie and imagined it in Indian mileu and never mentioned the novel (which nobody cares, the movie made the novel which wasn’t big seller).
Interesting statistics. Akshay has surely reached his career peak in 2019 with 5+ cr footfalls. It may start coming down in post-covid years. Age is also catching up with him (was quite evident in Laxmii).
Hrithik also had a v good 2019 with 1+ cr footfall for Super 30 and 2+ cr footfalls for War. Of course, his career peak was in 2000-2001 when KNPH and K3G both had 3+ cr footfalls individually. Since then he has been delivering 2+ cr footfall superhits from time to time – KMG (2003), Krrish and D2 (2006), Krrish 3 (2013) and War (2019). He is in a comfortable position now in his late forties. In the next 5-6 years he will be doing Fighter, Krrish 4 and War sequels – all can be 2 cr+ footfall superhit films. That is a good enough position to be, considering that he is too lazy and slow to be contending for the position of top star in the industry.
Certain “stars” take 4 films to deliver 5 cr footfalls in a year while certain genuine box office crowd pullers who give BBs, ATBBs and highest annual grossers can do so within 2 films itself (All Khans have done so, HR has done it too, even Ranbir might get close of her has another Sanju).
In this calculation. It doesn’t matter at all.
Consistency and guarantee is the most important requirement for a superstar. How then you play your game is entirely upto individual’s capacity and talent. We have seen that all top stars have had their moments when they played to their strengths. One’s strength cannot be made weakness and create brouhaha everytime. it doesn’t sell Shivaay. it never had, it never will. 😉
A grand slam winner is worth more than someone making it to 10 semis without a win. A match winning 100 is worth more than a contributing 40. Anyone with half a mind would get this. Too bad fanaticism exists.
Your repeated raking up of HRs numbers & records in every bogus statement of your’s to counter mine isn’t getting you anywhere. I’m no HR blind fanatic of the kind that you are for Akshay’s mediocrity, in fact i’ve admired just 3 of HRs entire filmography yet. The raw facts remain Akshay’s popularity during his peak can never match that of any of the Khans, HR or even Sunny Deol during their respective peaks. Now carry on parroting your irrelevant rants.
Sanju, Padmavat, War, Kabir Singh, Tanhaji were all slams.
And yes, a lot of slams are coming up too – Pathan, LSC, Tiger 3, Adipurush, Fighter, Hirani film, Krrish 4, War 2, etc etc. Any guess what Akshay is missing?
Both Akshay and Hrithik are problematic stars. One cant give a big hit; while the other delivers superhits every few years but with nothing in between.
As a producer i wud prefer Akshay for any medium budget film. But go to Hrithik for a big budget action thriller or a superhero fantasy film.
Last time YRF produced their highest budget film of that time was in Tashan and then they didn’t work with Akshay for 12 years. I hope history doesn’t repeat!
Till now YRF had invested most in TOH (240 cr budget). Prithviraj will be in 100-150 cr range (which is a big budget by Akshay’s standards but not so otherwise). On the other hand Pathan is being mounted on a budget of 250 cr and Tiger 3’s budget is being reported to be 350 cr. Go figure.
Once the film takes the Kesari opening of INR 15 Cr the production cost would by default come down to 150 Cr with Akshay becoming a co producer and doing the film for free (with a 99% share in final distributor profit).
I guess male equivalent of vish kanya’s like AR Murugadoss & Vijay Krishna Acharya have the only legitimate right to meet Nolan for the purpose of getting a sound Dhulai.
Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel 2, directed by Nia DaCosta. Joining the cast are recently announced Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani, and Monica Rambeau played by WandaVision's Teyonah Parris.
Lame movie, just like most Marvel films. Gimme DCs dark gritty & complex superhero’s anyday. Funny world we live in where silly childish stuff like Avengers grosses billions while a hard hitting MOS is ignored (not even getting into Batman & Joker, these 2 characters single handedly pee on every marvel character ever).
I’d rather see him encash on D2s and WARs and mix them up with Super 30s, JAs, ZNMDs or LAKSHYAs than the dated Krish franchise from a dated film maker whose well past his prime.
Mix up War/D2 with underperformers? Both JA and ZNMD were just commission earners by Nahta. Lakshya was a flop. Only super 30 was a lone hit outside his comfort zone. He tries hard but isnt just good enuf to be a versatile actor. D2/War is what he shines at.
Commission earners and Semi Hits, ZNMD has higher footfalls than S30 (Nahta’s very inconsistent post 2010) are good enough if he gets the odd War or D2. Anyhow with 4 Highest grossers, 5 record openers and 5 outright blockbusters he’s achieved more than most commercial stars achieve in their entire lifetime. box office beyond a point is irrelevant for folks like him or even SRK now. Its just disappointing that someone like SRK has chosen to run behind box office glory in his 50s despite having all the records behind him instead of choosing content that ages well (something that Aamir in this gen and Dilip Kumar in the past pulled off exceptionally well). SRK and HR are no Amitabh’s who can excel across diverse genre’s into their 60s and 70s.
SRK himself hasn’t given a genuine success in the last 7 years. The difference between the 2 at the domestic box office is not as big as what it seems, especially if you get into the opening day, opening weekend and lifetime records. HRs not interested in competing for further bo glory, perhaps explaining his disinterest in signing films. No one knows and nor should anyone bother anyways.
Hell lot of difference between srk and hr at bo. Srk in his career has 25 clean hits or so; hritik has around 10. Thats a big difference.
The reason hr isnt signing films is because he is waiting for films that has guaranteed bo returns. Why else is he doing Fighter, Krrish 4, War2? Its you who want more znmd and super 30 from him. He isnt interested in good films. Thats why he is often regarded as a silly star.
And HR shud never be compared with any of the Khans. He is like Sunny Deol who delivered a total of 15 hits or so over 2-3 decades; interspersed with some big blockbusters here and there. Never really a contender for the top star slot despite the ATBs. HR will also end up with 15 hits or so over 2-3 decades in his career (he already has 10 over last 20 years).
Khans on the other hand had much more success than Sunny or HR. Salman and SRK has 25 clean hits or so. Aamir has 20 or so over 3 decades (his main strength being shelf-life of many of his films).
Salman’s & AKs box office records are way ahead of SRKs entire career at the moment. If HR manages another couple of WAR like successes in the next 5-6 years he’d be at par with SRK in my books. Even at his peak in the late 90s to early 2000s, SRKs records were primarily urban centric and he’s never had any major solo box office mega hits apart from DDLJ & KKHH in his entire filmography unlike SK or AK who’ve had at least 4-5 of these record breaking mega hits (HRs had 1 in KNPH). Anyhow Sunny Deol was a huge box office crowd puller in himself and being at par with him is an achievement in itself. No Bollywood star since HR in his generation & beyond has scaled his heights of 2000, 02, 06 and 19 yet. Just like no one since SK or AK have gotten anywhere near them. Ranbir & Ranveer have so far matched Akshay/Ajay at best with primarily small time hits with the sporadic Super Hit every now & then.
You cant judge a filmstar’s career with only ATBs or big hits. There has to be volume of hits (including smaller hits) taken into account too. There has to be a balance between high grossers and volume of hits. Yes, I agree that if HR gets another 2-3 big hits in next 5-6 years (already a possibility with a line-up of Fighter, Krrish 4 and War 2), he will have as many big hits as SRK (around 10). But he cant match SRK’s total hit count of 25. SRK will remain ahead.
Agree that Ranbir/Ranveer are even behind HR. I was looking at their filmographies the other day and both have only 5-6 clean hits after spending a decade or more in the industry. Between the the two i wud adjudge Ranveer is the better horse for bollywood’s racecourse. He enjoys buffoonery and seems to have a hunger. Ranbir has already resigned to a slow pace of work like HR. Both did well in 2018 and has interesting line-ups in 2021. Lets see.
I really like Rakesh Roshan as director. He has pulse for indian audience. However he has got stuck with Krish.
He is capable to do good revenge thrillers, which works the most in india.
Could it also be cinematic quality? Since an R rated Joker with a way lower budget than MOS made more than $1 billion worldwide? Could be the world prefers overall execution over tone or intent?
irrespective of Rhea or not, this is a flop film signed by Amit; and it deserves to go in the dustbin. Anybody who signs a film with Rumi Jaffery needs to have his or her head examined.
At least with OTT, this might make some chillar money…

My dad says he works a lot so could eat anything; I try to impress that if you eat more calories than what you burn, you will have heart trouble. He is now moderating but it is difficult to tone down when you are brought up in atmosphere of plenty (milk, ghee, lots of carb , sugar and a doting mom).
lol, I think that’s an issue in every family. both of my parents have diabetes/cholestrol/hihg blood pressure yet they have to have their fried gujju snacks daily and then the meals themselves are not much healthy either. they don’t eat a lot but the way the food is cooked, it’s high in calories/fat and more importantly, saturated fat which is very bad.
But us indian eating like this our whole life, it’s hard to get away from it. we have made gradual changes as a whole family where we went from whole milk to 2% to now 1%. just that one change drops about 20 grams of fat daily. So everyone has to compromise and make changes on what they can give up.
Another funny thing with my parents is they will not have sugar with Chai (as like it would be committing a big crime) but than they’ll have Halidram Biscuits with chai in morning and late afternoon.
I guess all the meds they take is keeping them in okay shape.
I think they have rescinded some of warnings about fat from dairy; but still they have calories. Carb is main culprit now,
I need 2% milk for chai otherwise chai doesn’t give good color 🙂
We grew up in India with 8% fat milk (Buffalo milk).
There are a lot of local farms and some stores that sell raw milk but most doctors say it can bad for some because your system won’t digest it. Local farm by house has them in glass bottles and there’s a thick layer of fat on top.
Another thing people have to do is stop eating red meat. my family used to eat goat meat about twice a week, now we’re down to about 10 times a year between Eid, dawats and few other times at home. Beef used to be about once a week (in form of hamburgers), now it’s down to almost zero.
You have to start making compromises in your diet at early stage if you want to have a quality old age.
Brilliant lineup indeed with right mix of commercial and diverse genres. Ranveer is on a roll since last few years now. A very good actor and star, he has all in him to be No 1.
Akshay and Ajay might end up with 100 and 50 resp.
What an amazing feat. Most of the successes have come in last 5 years which is extraordinary unlike others who were lucky with their initial breaks in career along with being more talented early on.
Pointless 100 when normal person only remembers half a dozen of an actors major films. And alongside the 100 ‘hits’ are the equivalent 100 flops and disasters.
Firs tthe Past.
Agree with few hits of earlier years.
However there are many memorable ones with unlimited runs on television already.
Last few years have seen significant improvement in cinematic experience.
Now the future.
Countdown to 100 will be laced with 80% success and several superhits.
This constant ranting on Akshay’s last 5 years is really tiring. Specially when this narrative is built on the thin ice of mostly lies. Lets look at the BO verdicts of his movies in this time frame. Following are Nahta’s FI verdicts:
Lets not start this again amd get an egg on the face. Will you?
Please check the previous threads. Have opened the threads of every argument that few could present.
Reacting every time to my news is what is making you all talk about Akshay more than me. Jealousy makes you do this. Jealousy about an active life of an Akshay fan. We are busy.
As i said before, a blind fanatic cant accept facts that he cant have an orgy about. FI is the gold standard when it comes to Bollywood verdicts. Illogical rants of some random Naveen does not count.
Pls read the thread about box office ranking, collections and narratives where we discussed Taran, BOI and FI.
On Akshay, he is No 1 across most channels since last few years now despite not giving HGOTY. Thats flabbergasting to you and few others but not to me. Its clear and undisputable.
Yeah, they’re usually $1,199. I think Denon controls the pricing.
Back in early 2000, i had a Denon receiver which costed $3,499. Of course in those days i didn’t have to worry about any bills and had spent about $10k on home theatre system between Denon Receiver, Klipsch speakers and Mitsubishi TV and few other things.
The setup i have right now is about $2,500 but the Onkyo receiver i have is pretty weak and is 7 channel only. I have 9 speakers so i need 9 channel receiver.
Long before Netflix and Amazon came up with Sacred Games and Mirzapur kind of puke, this was a hard hitting crime drama on Sony TV in the real context with Pankaj Tripathi getting the role he deserved. A must watch for anyone who feels Sacred Games is a so called bingeworthy show!
If stuff as disgusting, sadistic & foul as Mirzapur is what you like, good luck to you. OTTs created an entire generation of rape happy c graders who believe more refined versions of Kanti Shah films are actually intellectual!
You should see this, Naveen. You will like it. This was greenlit by Yashraj and I do think they were ahead of thier times. This is a really well made serial with practically no flab
Finally got to watch Tenet on the big screen here in Bangalore. For one, this is the most commercial, un-Nolan like big screen entertainer he’s made since The Dark Knight. Out of all his films, Tenet’s one which involves huge suspension of belief and a go with the flow approach as a viewer. Nolan definitely had a huge amount of boy’ish fun making this one. Its loud, its explosive, its got a caricature Russian villain, a damsel in distress and every bizarre trick pulled off from time entropy to bullet catching across the European countryside to the Mumbai skyline. John Washington is suave, stylish & oozes class as the protagonist. Pattinson seems to be having fun & so does Dimple and the rest of the cast. Hans Zimmer is hugely missed, the film’s too loud for its own good despite the pulsating action sequences. Watch it on the big screen if possible. Don’t try understanding it, just feel the experience. Nothing that serious to understand anyways. With a plot to save WW3 via time inversion, locking down freeports & protagonists wearing masks to prevent reverse entropy of oxygen, this is a perfect movie for our dystopic times. 7/10 (worth watching on the big screen).
For all the criticism about the characters being cold and the film being too convoluted, even though I partly agree with a bit of it but at the same time, Tenet’s not a film to be taken as seriously as Inception or Interstellar. Its best enjoyed with a glass of vodka in hand. A special word of compliment for PVR cinemas for keeping the show on a Monday afternoon going despite just 4 people in the audi. Its times of need like these that fans and admirers of the big screen ought to be a little compassionate and help the businesses out (with adequate precaution and safety of course). Its the 70mm where explosive and imaginative storytelling comes to life and kudos to Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros for keeping the show going (first with Tenet and now with WW84) despite the losses.
“Tenet’s not a film to be taken as seriously as Inception or Interstellar. Its best enjoyed with a glass of vodka in hand”
I haven’t seen the movie nor read much reviews but this seems to be apt as this is supposed to Nolan’s own Bond movie and those are never serious and always more commercial. Your views appear to be spot on!
Forget Akshay as its not his call as to when Reliance will release Sooryavanshi. And i dont blame Reliance for playing the waiting game. Both Sooryavanshi and 83 are their major tentpoles and they simply cant afford these to be lossmakers. In the current scenario Sooryavanshi may do 75-100 cr at BO and with a budget of 135 cr or so, it will suffer losses. Same for 83 with its budget of 125 cr. Both need around 200 cr nett to be hits. If WW84 does not do v well at indian BO, i am afraid Reliance will wait till March end or April to release these films. Even YRF has deciddd not to release Bunty and Bubli sequel this Christmas.
Finally an arrest over murder disguised as suicide.

Police have arrested the husband of Tamil actor Chitra days after her death
The actor, who was known for her role as Mullai on the television series, Pandian Stores, died by suicide in Chennai at the age of 29. NDTV reports police have arrested her husband Hemnath on charges of alleged abetment of suicide.
The couple got married a few months ago. Investigators say Hemnath had been angry with Chitra for her intimate scenes in a television serial.
“Hemnath did not like a scene she had enacted on TV. On the day she died, he had also pushed her,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudarshan told NDTV.
Tenet is doing decent business over the weekends. It had collected around 4 crore nett over the first weekend and the second weekend has grossed 2.75 crore nett which is a drop of 30%. The weekday business is not good but at least some of the audience is coming in on the weeeknds. The ten day business of Tenet is 8.25 crore nett with 5.50 crore nett in the first week and 2.75 crore nett in the second weekend.
The film has a huge contribution from the South with Tamil Nadu leading the way. Mumbai and South are contributing over 80% of the all India collections of the film with more than 60% coming from the South. The film should now comfortably cross the 10 crore nett mark and if does not come over the weekdays it will surely come over the third weekend.
10-12 Cr nett with ticket prices that are less than half the pre covid era (personally experienced this twice in the last 3 weeks) implies about a million domestic footfalls. This for a film that even in a normal scenario was never gonna have in excess of 3M footfalls. Business is up to 1/3rd the normal as per my guess. WW84 results awaited. If its indeed 1/3rd, Sooryavanshi could have crossed 100 Cr nett with an X’Mas/New year release as i mentioned before. That would have meant a lot of goodwill and “understated popularity” the makers as well as Akshay would have received for the long run, for standing with the exhibitors during these trying & testing times and making sure the magic of the big screen show goes on (just like Warner Bros have). Instead, now we’re gonna have an overload of backlogs and releases from mid 2021 that’s gonna strain the release schedule unnecessarily and make sure the deserving candidates do not get a free run. Preposterous!
Ticket prices are heavily reduced from pre covid levels, in fact less than half. Tenet costed me 100 bucks, that’s 2010 level pricing. Its surely crossed a million footfalls, in pre covid this would be 20 cr nett and if capacity was 100%, Tenet would be a 35-40 cr pan India grosser.

50 cr my foot. This is no Bahubali sequel that’s gonna do 50 cr in a single day in covid times. A 10-15 cr total in Hindi was next to impossible even in the pre covid era. Vijay is an unknown entity outside of TN and the south, at best Master can trend well enough like BB1 did in 2015 and settle for a 50-60 cr nett total in Hindi. Its funny where all this hyperbole comes from.
Baahubali 2 had done 125 cr nett on day 1. So its way beyond reach.
How much Covid impacts will probably be known with this movie. 10-15 cr in Hindi might be a stretch as on a second thougbt this might not get a full release in Hindi.
Bahubali 2 would have still done 50 Cr even today in the pandemic era. Tenet @12 cr is gonna end up with 60% of Dunkirk collections with far lower ticket prices (i’m sure its done 80% of Dunkirk’s footfalls). No reason why BB2 would have fallen short of a 50 Cr nett (all languages), perhaps even 75.
Warner Bros. will release its entire 2021 slate of movies on HBO Max streaming and in theaters simultaneously, including The Matrix 4 and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake, the studio announced Thursday in a landmark response to the pandemic.
The announcement follows Warner’s earlier decision to release Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas Day via its streaming platform at the same time as the big screen — a radical gamble for one of Hollywood’s biggest studios, which the industry had widely assumed would be a one-off.
“No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the US will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.”
EXPLOSIVITY has a new definition, both audio & visual. Best watched on IMAX, however if not possible make sure your televisions or laptops got full HD picture and in depth surround sound.

** Hopefully India’s new hero the Great Mand-buddhi Sardar of Udta Punjab is reading this…**
Hundreds of Sikhs from in and around Greater Washington DC area, Maryland and Virginia, along with many from other states like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina, on Saturday undertook a car rally to the Indian embassy.
During the protest, many of the pro-Khalistan Sikh youths flashing kirpans jumped on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and pasted a poster over it. The group raised anti-India and pro-Khalistan slogans. The Indian embassy condemned the “mischievous act” …
Khalistan movement is an ISI funded farce that’s more prominent in the UK & NA than in India’s Punjab itself. These clowns would get the asses kicked if they ever encounter a real sardar from Jallandar battalion of the Indian Army.
Amitabh Bachchan has way more than 6. I have no idea where this data comes from. BOI archives are a farce, wait for them to update the 60s & 70s data (if they ever do). Amitabh has at least 1974, 75, 76, 78, 79, 81 & 83 with possible even 80, 85 and 91. That’s at least 7, perhaps 9. A lot of these years have the top 3-4 annual films as Big B starrers themselves. Such posts are misleading, Salman’s popularity has never been close to Big Bs through his career.
76 was Dus Numbri, 80 was Qurbani, 81 was Kranti and 85 was RTGM. Big B had 74, 75, 77, 78, 79 and 83. Of course, this in no way reflects his popularity and some of these grossers (like Disco Dancer) have the Russia gross (which is hypocritical since if you add overseas, SRK has 8). Big B is the biggest that ever was, is and will be. Big B should have 10 or 11 HGOTY at least in this way.
Hera Pheri and Dus Numbri are neck and neck. Ditto for Kranti and Laawaris/Naseeb as well as RTGM and Mard. There isn’t sufficient data to extract for these decades unless someone’s got the Trade Guide or FI archives. As for SRK in Europe & NA, his popularity is not even an ant compared to Raj Kapoor & Mithun in Russia. These guys delivered 50-60 Million footfall films in the USSR (like Sangam, Anari, Disco Dancer etc), SRK barely given 2-3 million footfalls in NA and Europe combined even during the 90s. Only Aamir in China comes close to what Raj Kapoor and Mithun were in Russia but Aamir’s still got a long way to go beyond Dangal & SS in China.
I don’t mean to speak about SRK’s popularity, but that if they consider HGOTY Worldwide (which seems to be the reason why Bachchan has only 6), SRK has 8.
Hrithik – Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Dhoom 2 and War.
SRK – Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Devdas, Veer Zara and Om Shanti Om
Dharmendra – Pathhar Ke Phool, Ankhen, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay and Hukumat
Raj Kapoor – Barsaat, Awaara, Shree 420, Anari and Sangam
Amitabh Bachchan – Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Sholay, Amar Akbar Anthony, Muqqadar Ka Sikander, Suhaag and Coolie
Aamir Khan – Dil, Raja Hindustani, Ghajini, 3 Idiots, PK, Dhoom 3 and Dangal
Dilip Kumar – Jugnu, Shaheed, Aan, Madhumati, Mughal-E-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Kranti, Vidhata and Karma
Salman Khan – Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hai Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hai, No Entry, Dabangg, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger Zinda Hai
even Bobby would be a HGOTY for Raj Kapoor, and Vidhaata is not the biggest hit of 1982, as per FI, Namak Halaal was a bigger hit than Vidhaata (in domestic terms).
Number of films among the top 3 highest grossers each year would give us a much clearer picture than this as stars like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor & Sunny Deol have plenty of those while Amitabh Bachchan would rout any other movie star by a distance based on his 1973-86 box office record.
Yes agree, but in unprecedented times like these where people are slowly (and dare I say reluctantly) returning to the cinemas. Bad films could discourage even the few to just wait and see it digitally or on TV.
Chief, under normal circumstances…that’s perfectly cool. Right now, the ONLY way to revive the whole ecosystem is by generating a lot of work! And that can only happen if all our top actors / film makers push up the tempo. If nothing else, it will atleast give people hope!
A Tweet From Abhishek Bachchan Blew Up Into A Debate Involving Akshay Kumar
Abhishek Bachchan reacted to a tweet by distributor Akshaye Rathi where the latter commented on Akshay Kumar’s speedy delivery of films and suggested the “more actors need to ‘plan’ better
Amazing how @akshaykumar finishes off the shoot of an entire film in the amount of time that other stars take to learn a skill which they need to act out in a small scene or so! And more often than not, his film turns out to be the bigger hit! More actors need to ‘plan’ better!
Christopher Nolan Warns Studios Are Drawing “Wrong Conclusions” From ‘Tenet’ Box Office :
“Warner Bros. released Tenet, and I’m thrilled that it has made almost $350 million. But I am worried that the studios are drawing the wrong conclusions from our release — that rather than looking at where the film has worked well and how that can provide them with much needed revenue, they’re looking at where it hasn’t lived up to pre-COVID expectations and will start using that as an excuse to make exhibition take all the losses from the pandemic instead of getting in the game and adapting — or rebuilding our business, in other words,” Nolan told The Los Angeles Times.
“Well, it’s a difficult question to speak to. If you’re talking about the acceleration of existing trends, that’s something I started reading right at the beginning of the pandemic. And it ignores the reality that 2019 was the biggest year for theatrical films in history. They’d made the most money. The admissions were huge,” Nolan said.
Tenet would have made 500+M USD worldwide in pre-Covid times despite its mixed reviews and would have been a success for WB given its big budget of 200M. But its common knowledge that WB has lost money on Tenet and is now being cautious with WW84 (simultaneous pvod release). Its unfortunate for the exhibition sector, but why would Studios want to make losses?
Its not studios like WB & Universal that are on the verge of shutting down. Its the small time exhibitors globally who are. Studios must remember they thrive only as long as the exhibition sector thrives, its an interdependent cycle. If in the bargain the studios make losses on a couple of tentpoles by releasing them for the larger cause of movie exhibition, its only gonna help the exhibition sector get back on its feet a lot earlier than if films keep getting delayed. WB must remember this and so should domestic players like Reliance pictures.
Have been reading a lot of funny fanboy theories attempting to decipher Tenet on desi and global forums too. Can’t help but feel the whole point of the film is missed. Barring the fact the there are some beings in the future who have created this 9 point algorithm and sent it back to our present via Sator to destroy our present (their past) as we know it (as the rivers dried up & the oceans rose) and that there are our present beings attempting to save this civilization (each having a forward and inverted form of themselves) there’s nothing much to decipher. This is neither as intelligent as Inception, nor as spiritual as Interstellar & nor as edge of the seat as Dunkirk. Its loud, explosive popcorn entertainment stuff with a Bond like protagonist, an MI like Russian villain and a damsel in distress along with a loyal sidekick, all thrown into a never ending time dilation palindrome to save the planet.
Finally watched Tiger Zinda Hai and it is bad beyond even one’s wildest nightmares. Ali Abbas Zafar — unlike someone erstwhile here — might love masala but has ZERO understanding of masala. He beats to death, again, and again, and again, of the so-called ‘common’ emotions between India and Pakistan and Bhai’s unfettered love for India that it feels one has a 100 lizards scrawling all over your body. Speak in Hindi, listen to AIR, eat only Indian food even though you are staying in the Alps where one might or might not have the privilege of having a Ganesh Groceries or Patel Brothers to get the ingredients to cook kaali dal — it is never ending! It is such a cringe-worthy film that even the second-half of a film like REFUGEE where Shetty Saheb proclaims that Indian and Pakistan should unite and have the ‘nation’ named ‘Insaaniyat-stan’ looks and feels Einstein-esqe.
The action scenes are pathetic and they managed to get TOM STRUTHERS to screw up!
The ONLY scene, the only scene that’s worth watching is Kaif’s fantastically shot action sequence embedded in a song. It is truly imaginatively choreographed and Kaif rocks. Bhai looks horrific when he is bare-chested as though his man-boobs are ready to splash milk all over rather than bullets.
Always knew Ali Abbas Zafar was a hack of of movie-maker usurping masala of the yore; but by God, this movie reveals his inadequacies to the core.

Anyone expecting huge audiences for a film like Tenet in India is foolish. Even Inception was a break even & Dunkirk did 30 Cr in 2017. Tenet doing 10 Cr with 50% capacity is an acceptable result.

LOL

By your criterion, how different is War from the usual star turns Hrithik did in KNPH and Dhoom 2 except a few shades of grey and a better plotline?

Only the non Khans, led by Akshay (saying no to sequels and remakes – Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, Bell Bottom, Raam Sethu, Raksha Bandhan etc are all originals), Ajay, Harithik(said no to satte pe satta remake) are trying to do better and diverse.

Dunkirk did 20 cr nett in 2017. Ignoring inflation, Tenet will be doing 50% of it (~10 cr).
50% deficit from simultaneous OTT release will be difficult, but at least it can stop big budget films from flopping in near future.

It’s not as though Hoffman was some spring chicken in Tootsie, and it’s not a role that’d need him to prepare like Dangal. Anyway, it’s just a fantasy, which sounds fun.

My point is that if u r doing one film in 3 years, it better be an original story than an adaptation.

I agree with Marcus.

LSC is an official remake of FG the film in Indian context.

Consistency and guarantee is the most important requirement for a superstar. How then you play your game is entirely upto individual’s capacity and talent.

Lets see.

lol, I think that’s an issue in every family. both of my parents have diabetes/cholestrol/hihg blood pressure yet they have to have their fried gujju snacks daily and then the meals themselves are not much healthy either. they don’t eat a lot but the way the food is cooked, it’s high in calories/fat and more importantly, saturated fat which is very bad.

This constant ranting on Akshay’s last 5 years is really tiring. Specially when this narrative is built on the thin ice of mostly lies. Lets look at the BO verdicts of his movies in this time frame. Following are Nahta’s FI verdicts:
Airlift – Overflow
Rustom – Overflow
Housefull 3 – Commission Earner
Jolly LLB 2 – Semi Hit
Toilet Ek Prem Katha – Semi Hit
2.0 – Superhit
Padman – Commission Earner
Gold – Coverage
Good Newwz – Superhit
Mission Mangal – Superhit
Kesari – Overflow
Housefull 4 – Commission Earner
So ONLY 3 films (2.0, Good Newwz and Mission Mangal) were Hits in the true sense. Whats this constant Brouhaha all about?
Someone like Ranveer Singh has also given 3 Hits in 2018-19:
Padmaavat – Super Duper Hit
Simmba – Superhit
Gully Boy – Hit
Lets cut this crap for good and be a little sensible (IF thats possible for a bhakt).

Hopefully something near Christmas comes along.

My opening estimate of Vijay’s Pongal release – Master
All India is going to open at 50 Cr Nett Day 1 minimum accounting for 30-50% discount due to Covid. Hindi will be at 10-15Cr+.
If this happens, Vijay will emerge as India’s biggest star.
