Anil has kept himself in great shape and looks great for age 67. So the type of roles bachchan got because there was really nobody around in that age group, anil will start getting those roles, until srk/aamir will be ready to do those types of roles in smaller budget films.
Tiger 3 saw a drop in business on Tuesday as Monday had benefitted .from Guru Nanak Jayanti. The film has failed to recover much in Gujarat from the hit it took for bad weather on Sunday. The film is now heading for second week total of 24.50 crore nett.
The drop on Tuesday will also make it tough for business when Animal releases and its looking a 270 crore nett finish. The film should have done better but even still its not a bad result for a film which has not really worked and been hit by matches and a Sunday release which was not optimum.
The film is a HIT which are like gold dust at the moment but the industry will not see it like that as the expectations were of a BLOCKBUSTER film and as those have not been matched and wha happens then is a certain negativity spreads and this still applies even today when business is not optimum. The collections of Tiger 3 till date are as follows.
Alas, the world moves on. But some morons here cant accept that Tiger 3 box office is no better than TOH/Dabangg3 when inflation adjusted. Producers of those flops also made some money.
Salman Khan didn’t give ATG even during his peak in action genre and expecting Tiger 3 to match Pathaan numbers was foolish in first place. Second was expecting Jawan to flop or not do more than 300 crs. Third was expecting Aamir Khan to do comeback in huge big budgeted movie. Now, Dunki is coming as well.

Salman Khan fans loved Tiger 3 and many found it decent and that’s why it’s doing 270 crs. If it was little better it could have done 400 crs but it never had that craze for 500 crs or higher even prior to the release. But what can we say to someone who didn’t find craze for Pathaan or Jawan even few days before release. It was ideal 400 cr movie but it fell short of even that.
Tiger 3 is not Adipurush or TOH which had BAD wom and they crashed. Tiger 3 had fair & average Wom which everyone here claims is same for Pathaan or Jawan. So, then if it’s average like the above, why did it stop at 275 crs? That’s the acceptance..obviously we are not expecting classic film making in Spy Universe. Now, finding stupid reasons saying if did 275 without acceptance, Lol.

Doing 275 cr is good with mixed won..and that’s why I find it hard to believe that you find pathaans number as incorrect due to Kajol saying it ..left right and centre movies are threatening to do better than what they would have done earlier..animal can open close to 50 cr, tiger opened close to 42 cr on a puja day but i never could understand why you would doubt pathaans 55cr odd opening for the same reasons that it is now easier to do 500 cr for all movies but pathaan didn’t do it…500 does appear easier than now, tiger would have done that with better wom and animal should do that if it is good with that opening..movies with clash like gadar doing 500 also but pathaan hasn’t done is a contrary stance to your own stance on other similar things
Marcus is angry with this blog as he was claiming that 200 crs of tickets were purchased by YRF and Pathaan is only 300 or so and not the 543 number claimed by YRF. Not sure, why YRF didn’t do the same thing with Tiger 3? They went in full repair mode and made Salman, Katrina give 10 days nonstop media interviews and World cup canvassing. For some reason BOI is still reporting everyday numbers of Tiger 3 while giving a cold shoulder to 12th Fail. Maybe they atill can’t accept that a low budget Vikrant Massey film has trended much better than Tiger 3 or even some big buget grossers we saw this year

I think folks will be surprised to see that violence is not that much and there is little action in the movie. The violence is in the mind and not in literal sense.
This again shows a film doesn’t need a SRK or Salman to generate interest in a film. If a public wants to see a film, the sky is the limit.
Although Ranbir is a big star, this could have opened the TJMM way too. The trailer (especially the first 30 seconds) did a good enough job in making it viral and make viewers sit up and notice. It is now challenging Tiger 3/Pathaan opening in many centres, thanks majorly to how Ranbir acted out of his skin.
Many people might be booking their gickegs just to watch RK act.
A big achievement in today’s time and whosoever cut the trailer deserves a raise.
People here were underestimating the trailer. I think only Krish and myself called it extraordinary and that trailer alone hit the audience like jackpot and skyrocketed the interest through the roof. Samething was with Jawan and Pathaan. If public loves the trailer, nothing can stop the opening.
I called it very effective too. But I stand by what I said about its other aspects. Toxic masucilinity is being pandered around in our faces as something of a product and something that needs to be adopted. Not responsible filmmaking when our audience is easily influenced by what they think is cool.

Don’t underestimate Bobby, interest was raised for many by that 2 second introduction of Bobby in the end of the initial teaser.
Even in the trailer, the portion of bobby smoking a cig on top of ranbir was best part of the trailer. Also, the gun is giving KGF2 vibes, which may have worked creating excitement in the B&C center as well.
So, first War2 pushed by 7 months and now Tiger vs Pathaan delayed. Totally expected after Tiger 3’s boxoffice. Actually, I posted a hypothetical question few days before release that if Tiger 3 underperforms and does below 300 ( which looked from the trailer and low hype), that TvP will be delayed.

After Pathaan, they were all gungho about Tiger Vs. Pathaan. This tells you how big Pathaan was.
After Tiger 3, they’re delaying it and may even be shelved (and go with just pathaan). This tells you that Tiger 3 has underperformed by a lot, in India and overseas, basically more than half of Pathaan.
I assume if Aditya keeps going with YRF, in near future, we’ll see ranbir and/or ranveer in it to keep franchise going.
I would actually love for Aditya to make a family drama movie in line with Kabhi Kabhi. It has been a while since we saw a proper family drama (rocky/rani had some of it).
The delay puts the focus on Srk’s next movie choice as very tricky. I don’t see any good film maker from Hindi who is a good follow up after Pathaan/Jawan. Apart from Sid, hardly any good directors to make huge projects in Hindi. Salman Khan is going with Tamil director, Vishnuvardhan for his next, The Bull with Karan Johar as producer. Will be very interesting what project SRK will sign now.
They should just make Pathaan 2 with Sid and 10 mins of Salman and 5 mins of Hrithik and if possible a south leading hero as the villain and it’ll be as huge as Tiger vs Pathaan collection wise. Why struggle to balance both superstars in one script.
TvP is pretty much dead. Both heroes need to be in good phase or 1 can be making a comeback.
Salman finished the Race franchise and he’s soiled his own ‘Tiger’ brand in Spy Universe.
Better to stop Spy Universe altogether as it’s redundant cinema.
Bahubali is on a different league altogether. But Biggest surprise ever will be remain KGF2. No one expected it to be as big until it opened and did almost approx 450 Cr. One of the biggest mystery for me is the success of KGF2. No hit song. No big star (atleast for Hindi audiences). Still 450. Unbelievable.
Both sequels and continuation of story and not sequels for namesake. If you make Pathaan 2 or War 2, it’s sequel but Baahubali is like some movie after Interval. So the interest will be sky-high to continue that movie.
Tiger vs pathaan made zero sense to srk once pathaan became so big..it became a strict no when jawan became even bigger…tiger 3 decision may have made yrf think but srk should have been saying no even before fate of tiger 3 was sealed. The atlee movie with Vijay is a far better choice..it’s still.not the perfect choice he should be going solo in an action genre but miles better than tiger vs pathaan. Inserting a pathaan cameo in tiger 3 may have also removed all the last bit of novelty left in tiger vs pathaan. He should ideally not be doing king also but if it is special appearance it is still okay. After tiger 3 no idea of pathaan 2 makes any sense to me..
Go for edgier directors..vanga was saying he wants to make a movie with srk..would love to see srk as an anti hero…otherwise right now atlee movie is a better choice than any other mistake he will make with the spy verse. If at all he has to do a spy verse do something like war 2 with a strong anti hero from other region..but even that will lose novelty post war2
Atlee’s next will take time and it’ll be 2026 release. Vanga’s next is just wishlist as he’s making Spirit next and then Allu Arjun, so he’s gone till 2027. Only director available is Sid Anand as TvP is delayed and he should do another movie with SRK outside of Spy Universe. Lokesh is also doing other movies etc. King is 2024 or early 2025 release and then SRK needs to start another movie like mid of next year for 2025 year end release. I’m waiting for that movie not far ahead. Don’t see anyone outside Sid.
If indeed 5 star it will go past 600cr.. because the Telugu version alone will do over 100cr..the first day advance is 33cr more than pathaans number but the hindi version advance is lesser. Telugu has sold around 3 lac tickets which is 30 percent of the overall tickets..that’s sensational..this was something we were 3xpecting jawan to do..animal has done it as the Telugu market is bigger

Vanga has crazy fan following and he’s not a cult director. Atlee was successful director but cult. Vanga alone can bring in the audience whichever actor he takes in Telugu.
Sad to see the once genuine ‘Bully’wood now with a begging bowl to all B grade south film makers with expertise in mindless vigilante & toxic films. Nothing survives compared to 💰 & choices of the rabid masses, neither Tests against Trash 20 nor an Oppenheimer againt Boorbie and nor a sca-venger against a decorated officer.

Even if a houseful had released against Sam bahadur, houseful would have been first choice..Sam bahadur will be fine at it’s level and am sure very good movie..but people do prefer mass movies over smaller movies in a clash
Bro sometimes it’s not that deep – animal seems like a masaleydar, intense film with plenty of action, a rebellious streak and seeti maar moments, and Sam Bahadur is obviously targeted towards a more intelligent audience.
Such a clash would be in favour of the more populist film anywhere in the world, similar to the Barbie vs Oppenheimer clash.
I bet Sam Bahadur team never understood that Animal will be so big. It’s like releasing against Jawan or Pathaan. Unnecessary clash and it has only everything to lose in this clash, no gain. Waste of so much effort and then choosing wrong date for release.
Yes, most reports say that 2nd half is too much dragging and boring. I said samething during its trailer release but i was attacked/ bombarded with different theories by pseudo experts here. It is not easy to make an 3 hrs 20 mins entertaining film in present times.

Just finished the show. Movie is terrific. Ranbir has nailed it big time. Its a dream role for Ranbir. Minimum 2 time watch. Masses and Classes both will go gaga over it. 500+ crore… yes you read it right.. 500+cr loading for this one..
Since it’s not family friendly..a friend remarked it not even all adult friendly – there could be some limitations to box office..hard to say today..sure blockbuster not sure how big
I think this stuff doesn’t matter. India has the market to propell this up. Once a certain day 1 limit is breached it can be benchmarked. Q is more does it have repeat value.
Fair point. A+ rating and certain adult audiences wanting to stay away will surely impact its overall collections. My wife and mom stayed away from this one anticipating the high dose of violence.
Movie keeps the viewers interest, so length is not an issue. Bobby Deol has very limited screen time, should have been easily more. 2nd half first hour dips a bit but then pickups but climax fight could have been more better. The action is not only A rated stuff but the dialogues and other such stuff is borderline vulgar and not really worthy for big screen.
Will jot down more thoughts tomorrow . One thing I’m sure which many on Twitter claiming that this is not 500 cr movie yet. I’m not sure how many will go for 2nd time watch for few good sequences, so repeat audience will be low. Family audience and even women audience will skip. So, my guess is max 400 crs but should be in 300s IMO.

Most unconvincing and pointless sub-plot is of Tripti Dimrii. That whole 15 mins sequence could have been cut and something else could have been devised for continuation of the plot.
Not just front benchers. The action is heavily stylized inspired by the likes of Old Boy, Tarantino cinema & John wick as well as Japanese anime. That’s what will get the urban metro audiences going.

See, it’s easy to criticize SVR movies. I really liked Kabir Singh and loved his style of story telling and following the main character. Here, he followed same but did some scenes for effect or create discussion points and didn’t come organically. The scenes are way long drawn out and fight sequences included. The character is not written with as much care as KS. So, here you have audience who don’t like his style of film making not liking this movie and then folks who loved his previous movie also getting disappointed. There might be some who’ll love it just for action and story at broad level but the number will be not huge. 2nd half makes it look typical gangster movie when it could have been so much different and better.
I can’t feel anything apart from fact that this was shot in same sets of kgf
After tiger animal and salaar, a lot of families are going to flock to dunki just bcos it offers a departure
The trailer is getting so much backlash and none of them even able to bear it. Those who were supporting Salaar over Dunki also gave up after the trailer.

I didn’t know it’s a 2 part movie and the trailor gives me the feel that prabhas will enter only around half time and will be there for most of second half.
Overall it is a very stale trailor…it looks like some kingdom but they talk about Russia and Serbia…has a major kgf hangover…the budget is north of 200 crores…they could saved some portion just reusing costumes and sets of kgf or maybe they have already saved on it..
Dunki itself doesn’t look great from teaser but I don’t really see people flocking to salaar at all even in TN and CP CI now..the other territories apart from AP and Telangana I was anyways sure salaar will be second choice…
He’s expanding Uggram story about 2 friends further and that interval point will be part 1 ending. If this movie bombs, I doubt part 2 will be made. Secondly it nay even affect KGF 3 which is next movie.
Watched #Animal and it’s not the film which I was expecting. Film is not having story and screenplay. Still The Film will be good if it’s 2 hours long but it’s 3.23 hours long. Means one extra film in the film. Ranbir Kapoor has done brilliant acting. Sandeep’s direction is also…
With the type of opening, hype/interest, i think 300 Cr is given. This will not die down like Tiger 3.
Only thing is once everyone finds out about the level of violence and vulgarity, it will drive away family audience who may go 2nd weekend, also, don’t think there will be lots of repeat audience.
This was never in radar for family audience. Only young couples and ones watching movies leaving out kids will be target but mostly its male population at massy centers. I have seen couple of public reviews and they were going gaga over sex scenes. I’m sure that’ll be natural progression for SVR to have nude scenes in his films with A grade stars.

It’s done 50 crore plus day one with an adult certificate, 3.2 hour length, and on a non-holiday. When you get the neutral public interested, the sky is the limit.
He often gets it right because the unsophisticated audience by and large share similar feelings as him. Doesn’t mean he’s intelligent. Means idiocy and crassness have the final say.

One thing which I never noticed is that adding 2 days collections and calling day 1 as premieres is plain lies. Tiger 3 did and now Animal day 1 WW collections is counting Thu+Fri overseas and then Friday India’s collection and then claiming it has done 100 crs. How is that even fair or acceptable?
Baradwaj got it right – the movie is absolutely a black comedy in many ways.
I mean casting Bobby Deol as a converted Muslim (previously a Sikh) with multiple wives, how can that not be reference to Daddy Deol?
It can also be seen as an unhinged reading of Shakti (Ranbir’s character is named Vijay, Anil who was Dilip’s grandson is the icy father here), Godfather and Mahabharata, with the metaphor of animal kingdom driving the entire narrative, but somehow it all works.
Vanga is definitely a pretty messed up dude though lol and has many provocative things to say.

I have not seen the film and have not heard anyone mention this but if what Henry mentioned above is true about Bobby character converted muslim and muslims being bad people, it will also bring in audience from some segments as well as keep some away, but after first few days.
That’s not what I said at all – most people won’t even pick up on what I said, but showing a Muslim man having 3 wives and living/acting as if they have established and are running Sharia law in Scotland is a dream many radicals have. This is a problem that’s quite prevalent in Europe right now.

Lol…Vanga is certainly fascinated by Punjabi culture, particularly the machismo element, but Ranbir’s character is also shown pretty critical of his cousins from the pind cheating on their spouses and sleeping around with prostitutes.
And I loved that part he included about Ranbir chiding a priest about calling the Swastika a Nazi symbol….a vast no. of Christians consider Hinduism a pagan religion, and it’s about time someone corrected them.
Another part that would turn off most people but I am glad it was there was when he tells his younger sister to have wine instead of whisky at his fathers bday.
His characters have a certain moral code that they abide by without subscribing to the “woke narrative” and the lack of political correctness is refreshing.
And then adding a villain who is basically living by the Sharia code and that too in Europe is such an apt metaphor for animalism that still exist in today’s world, not to mention one hell of a ballsy political statement.
The fact that Vanga was able to wrap a somewhat masala plot around such weighty stuff isn’t a small achievement.
2 points from Henry’s post. First it wasn’t Bobby who converted his religion but his father and married a middle east women, so directly not connected to Bobby. Secondly, the best of Arjan Velly song is preceeded by the worst part by that Marathi song playing during the fight.

I was watching Balakrishna movie Bhagvannath Kesri on amazon. So many action sequences in it are somewhat similar to what’s being shown in Animal/salaar trailer.

Perhaps the reason why the aam junta reaction is “mixed”. Docu-drama narratives with well researched content on national icons does not “sell” in these times of rabid vigilante films with super iss-stars (most of whom university drop outs who’d wet their pants when the time to take a stand really comes).

The simple fact here is that these 55-65 cr opening or 500 cr lifetime numbers of nowadays are nothing but same as 40 cr opening and 300 cr lifetime numbers pre-pandemic films. **edited**

Pathaan released during the worst Bollywood phase where openings were around 10-15 crs for all big films and then once folks started coming frequently, Jawan broke it by over 10 crores margin. Yes, that’s the new record and Animal is 11-12 crs lower than it.

You are not entirely right. A thing to note is these days public interest is gauged through number of advance tickets sold and not through actual collections. When the films you mentioned are leaving the number of tickets sold by the likes of Sultan/War behind, their final business must be much kore than what those films achieved.
Besides, over the top machismo (no matter how sadistic) is the bait for the audience of today. No wonder they’re forming gangs and mobs to watch these films

Animal is lower than Pathaan and Jawan. Jawan has same number of advance of Pathaan but the walk in crowds gave it over 10 crore more collection than Jawan (65 vs 55). So, that’s the difference where the audience started coming back to cinemas in huge way from Pathaan to Jawan.
I watched it on the big screen and there are very few films in the history of Indian cinema that match the level of “elevation” and hype that the fight and Arjun Velly song created before the intermission. The audience was literally mesmerized.
To say that Animal is just another film is simply wrong and in fact it’s a testament to Pathan that such an avg and vapid film opened as big as Animal.
Pathaan a lot of people I know liked it and almost all of them didn’t like jawaan as much…but I also saw that the ones who did like jawaan hadn’t liked pathaan as much or found it less interesting . 😄
It’s impossible if you haven’t seen anyone who liked Pathaan. I mean, what’s not there to not like..it’s promoted as popcorn entertainer and delivered exactly that with excellent stunts, fairly interest plot, great villain and inform SRK and excellent songs. Seriously, what’s not to like unless one is expecting some sort of classic in such OTT genre.

Tomorrow Ranga can abashedly make a film about a criminal exploiting and raping women and then make him walk out in slow mo and a blaring BG score. Tony: One thing which is irresponsible filmmaking is taking gun to school/college in response to ragging. People are hooting, cheering in that scene and character trying to justify it. US has worst history of gun shooting in schools and I hope the teens or youngsters don’t think it’s cool to take guns to schools now in response for any fights. Bad precedent.

Wouldn’t deny that a maker making Kabir Singh & Animal has issues but so does one making stuff like Munnabhai Mbbs (gangsters abducting bodies for campus as a precedence?) Or 3 Duffers (lets all go & pee on the main gates of our princi’s or forget to wear our pants in the name of humor) and of course, Sanju (a film far more toxic than Arjun Reddy).
Pathaan has “excellent” stunts.. Excellent!! Even better vfx i suppose.. and a completely novel plot that has no resemblance to any Spectre or Syndicate (Outfit X is daddy’s playground) 🤡
Firstly, Vanga’s yet to make a film on a rap e happy protagonist so lets not get into assumptions or count chickens before they hatch. As for societal impact, I’m equally bothered about a vigilante hijacking a metro during peak hour in the name of the “greater good” or releasing criminals out of a women prison to fight bonafide NSG commandos (in the name of female empowerment) as i am about someone totting guns at a campus.
The difference being stuff like Hirani films & Jawan have a much more masala narrative that allows the viewer to ignore their sinister undertones in the name of “entertainment” while SVR is a lot more serious & intense about his portrayals (isn’t a bad thing imo).

You may not be wrong that it is possible to get 500crs now for more movies but jawaan did close to 650cr which actually makes it among the biggest Hindi movie even with the 500 equal to 300 yardstick..
Jawan did 650 crs without any holidays or festive period. The first real holiday was 1st Sunday and it did 80 crs and could have done 90 crores if there wasn’t India vs Pakistan ODI match. But no one will talk about it. Will do dumb comparisons Diwali day openings to weekdays opening and call it same.

While both jawaan and animal are mass movies in one way it’s pretty clear that anim operates in a very different space which bollywood don’t even operate it..the scenes I am hearing in animal are quite radical to be honest..I know shivaay says Telugu cinema but don’t think Telugu also go this vile…I was not planning to see animal but I am not proud to admit that I feel that i should see it now even after hearing the depiction of females etc..i might even like this movie if the depiction is consistent to the character .

Some publishers have reached out but the kind that demand money. I’m not sure if they can be deemed trustworthy and can customise it the way I want once they get the money.
KDP is definitely a better option but not sure about the reach.
With KDP, the self-publishing bit is easy. But its only half the job done. You will need to have a self-promotion and marketing strategy in place which will need quite some effort (and time) to implement.
But keep at it and it can work wonders if you are lucky! Some self-published books have really done well in bestseller lists and all that jazz, and have successfully reached out to a lot of people! And sometimes your self-publish book may get picked up by a big publishing house after they see some success in your sales. So, a lot can happen with open possibilities.
I will suggest that you do some online research on how to promote/market your self-published book (and it differs a lot for fiction and non-fiction books). But hey! If that is your pet project, you wont mind spending the required time on these aspects. You just need to be aware of the options.
Also, sometimes having an agent helps in many aspects whether you self-publish or go down the traditional publishing route.
If you want one, try by inducing yourself into some writer’s clubs and meetups and you may just get the right recommendation for the right agent you need …
Mid way through Sam Bahadur.. a very underplayed film that focuses more on the drama than the theatrics. Vicky’s perfect as expected but Sanya Malhotra is a perfect foil as Mrs Manekshaw. Interval scene when Field Marshal Sam gets introduced to Indira is pure 🔥
Completed. Good, solid docu drama film the chronicles the life and times of Field Marshal Manekshaw in a hagiographical format. His equation with his IMA batchmates, his wife as well as ex PM Indira has been accurately & adequately portrayed without too much melodrama or shenanigan.
The film excels in its portrayal of the various regiments of the Indian Army as well as the mutually admirable equation the Field Marshal shared with his Jawans & officers.
The main complaints – Nothing about his childhood and university life. Its a bit problamatic to portray such a rich illustrious life in 2.5 hours but his early days, his equation with his parents & school life deserved to be touched upon.
Also, absolutely no real life footage of the Field Marshal through the film despite smart direction of apt usage of real life footage in portrayal of the ’71 war.
Worth Watching film nevertheless. Kudos to Kaushal and Meghna in equal measure.
Good to know that Vicky has added yet another good film to his already impressive repertoire – Masaan, Raazi, Sanju, Uri, Sardar Udham … now Sam Bahadur. Next should be a blockbuster in Dunki.

If it was that simple, then films like “Thank you for coming” would be becoming big hits. People are showing up for Animal because it is a very intense and masculine film that keeps you on the edge.

I have had problem with old movies of 70-80s where hero used to slap girlfriend or wife or sister, because there was some issue/disagreement dealing with hero’s Mom or dad; and audience use to clap at such scenes.
Not sure what was slap signifying; that issue is resolved, or your voice is not needed or, slap will make female realise her mistake. It was convenient plotting for director than using drama to resolve the issue.

The bigger and fair comparison was RRR and Pathaan opened closer RRR(coming with full Baahubali hype and tow big stars) opened on twice the screens in 4 languages and 3 times the ticket prices and yet Pathaan managed to touch its opened 1st weekend and also crossed final gross in just 1 language. USA movie ticket prices are not complex. It’s pretty straight forward with each movie theater will have same price regardless of if a movie star is Tom Cruise or someone nobody knows; regardless of it’s a film by James Cameron or someone nobody knows; regardless of it’s Avenger/Avatar or a film made on shoestring budget by someone nobody knows.
Also, everything is tracked via national online database.
While everyone is going gaga over Ranbir performance, let me be the one to tell it first. Ranbir did great but it’s not very difficult performance. I see many reviews saying no one can do this role. I think Ranveer Singh or even Shahid Kapur could do this equally good. The movie works well as we have seen Ranbir in this avatar first time but as performance it’s not like others can’t carry this role. It’s not even as challenging as it’s being made out. That doesn’t mean it’s not great performance and he has great chance of sweeping all awards this year but other stars could also do this role unlike say Sam Bahadur where only limited actors can do it.
Currently , Ranbir kapoor is the best actor star we have in the Hindi movie industry. No actor has given 300 crores + movies like Sanju and Animal , where acting has been acknowledged universally. He will became the biggest star by next decade incase he is able to select movie carefully .
It’s high time the next generation takes over. Khans are reaching 60s and so are Akshay and Ajay soon. The younger lot needs to work hard and take over the baton. Hrithik, Ranbir, Ranveer are only superstars after that 90s generation. We need more stars.

Dunki will not create any records in opening. It’s not that kind of movie. First, we have to see if folks will make it huge blockbuster for a non-action movie post pandemic. If that works, then another huge blockbuster is enough, ATB is possible but that’s lifetime records not opening day records or opening weekend day records.
Simply put. Nothing will help except that movie is great. Srk’s stardom will not help much like Jawan or Pathaan. Here, Raju Hirani should be in good form and if the movie is good, collections will come. 300 crs is great and 400 is huge and 500 is ATB as it’s coming with huge clash.
Dunki needs to trend well..a regular hirani movie will easily go past 600cr today..dunki budget is too low for its success to be defined by it .it might well be a success at 200cr but that will not help hirani. Must be the first srk movie in a while where he must be having zero pressure to perform.

SRK’s stardom is and has been extraordinary even during his leanest patches – even when he didn’t deliver a hit for a decade, he was still getting massive openings with abysmal films like zero.
And for kids born in in the 90s, he is the ultimate Indian movie star as Amitabh’s classics are too dated or too old for them. Films like Kal Ho Na Ho and K3G are like Sholay for them, I have spoken with quite a few in Canada and India and that’s how much they love these films.

One can find a scene or two in just about any actor and director movie where something is questionable. But what’s V Reddy is doing is kind of glorifying it and giving it a stamp of it being okay.

Animal is sort of unique polarizing movie. Ideally of there are so many people coming out and giving it 0 stars and trashing it badly, no way it should be doing numbers like this. I can understand Gadar2, if not great wasn’t a movie which anyone hated or gave 0 stars but here many in crowd are absolutely hating it and calling it nonsense film but collections hasn’t shown any cracks. For me personally, 1st half is good and 2nd half is where the movie went downhill. As KRK says bahut lukkhe log hai desh mein, so it’s running full everywhere even families, kids not watching it.
I have serious doubts about people following the ‘no children allowed’ policy in theatres in India. No one really checks who’s watching what beyond the city multiplexes.
It’s a polarising movie only according to limited social media circles. Like it or not, this has become the latest mass sensation where they are taking families along to watch it.

I have seen kids watching the movie with families and teens watching the movie for so called ‘mast scenes’. The response is going beyond regular film audience now if teens are thinking this is some sort of soft porn( it’s not) but that’s the best you can get with A lister actor.
I think social media is dishonest on this movie. People dont want to be seen associating with this movie for fear of being judged so they are trashing it in public but privately they have liked it. This is not abnormal behavior in human beings. Even politician have tapped this latent need for their benefit…A friend told me about this book which highlights what people truly wants and what they portray in public. Hence Google searches are a better indicator of their real personality rather than their FB page. A latent desire can be tapped. Like how BJP taped the latent hatred for Muslims among middle class (this is true not geting into whether it is good or bad as thats politics) Vanga doing the same. People like extreme violence and sex. Game of thrones also is a major hit..it shows animalitic tedencies in humans with extreme violence and sex. Vanga tapping into it smartly..

Animal has recorded an insane Monday as it records collections of 36-37 crore nett in Hindi and the all formats total will be going towards the 40 crore nett. It is one of the highest Mondays ever and if all holiday affect is taken out the films above it then it will be the highest Monday ever.
The collections of the film are 206 crore nett in four days and this Monday hold has set it up for a huge run till Christmas and the film could go anywhere. There have been a few of these big grossers this year but Animal is the one giving the best all round performance. Jawan and Pathan saw underperformance in Punjab, Central and Gujarat while Gadar 2 was less in West Bengal and South but with Animal its just mainly Tamil Nadu / Kerala which hardly matter and maybe can be called a little down in West Bengal even though collections are great. Its just they are not outstanding.
The biggest plus for the film is the way Maharashtra and Gujarat have come on board and it looks there will be no stopping this film in this circuit now and if this continues it will be the first film from the Hindi film industry which is outstanding in both the major areas of Mumbai and North India.
The holds are superb all over with some mass pockets only down around 25% while the bigger falls in multiplexes has come and is always there due to the drop in rates while even in multiplexes the admits remain pretty similar to the Friday. Basically the film has simply torn the box office apart and its the fourth one this year after Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan.

The Ranbir Kapoor-led Animal is on a dream run at the box office in India. After scoring Rs 169.50 crore through its opening weekend, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has scored an extraordinary hold in collections on Monday. According to early estimates, Animal has collected in the range of Rs 35.00 to Rs 37.00 crore on its fourth day taking the total collections to Rs 205 crore. The numbers have come despite a 25 percent drop in the prices, and the footfalls for day four will be very close to the opening day.
Animal scores the second biggest Non-Holiday Monday of All Time
The Ranbir Kapoor-led Animal has scored the second biggest non-holiday Monday of all time after the Sunny Deol-led Gadar 2, which collected around Rs 38 crore on its fourth day. One must note that Gadar 2 benefitted with better hold in the night shows due to the Independence Day Holiday on Tuesday and Animal is devoid of any such holiday benefit. There was a huge spillover of audience from the opening weekend to Monday, which has resulted in an extraordinary hold in collections, going beyond all expectations.The top 3 national chains – PVRInox & Cinepolis – have collected Rs 17.00 crore on Monday as compared to Rs 24.60 crore on the opening day, which is a drop of about 30 percent from the opening day.
The film has entered the Rs 200 crore club in just 4 days and is now targeting to enter the Rs 300 crore club in a matter of 7 to 8 days. Animal has held strong in the Telugu and Tamil dubbed version too, as the film was rock-steady collecting Rs 3.50 crore on the fourth day. The All India nett total of Animal stands at Rs 233 crore and the film will zoom past the Rs 250 crore club on the fifth day of its run. The film is already a BLOCKBUSTER and it’s the second weekend which will tell us if it ends up being a SUPER BLOCKBUSTER or an ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER in the long run.
These are humongous numbers and the four-day run truly stands for ‘setting the box office on fire’. It has also established the superstardom of Ranbir Kapoor and it’s all about going up and above from hereon in the time to come by, placing him miles above all his contemporaries in the post-2007 era.

Exactly 40.06 crs Hindi looks little on purpose for Official collections. Animal beating Pathaan, Gadar2 is the title they are looking and another 500 cr movie.
Tried watching Leo, couldn’t finish beyond the Elisa sacrifice scene. One of the highest levels of c*utiyapa you can ever imagine. Incompetent direction, awful performances, horrendous screenplay and unintentionally funny dialogues. I seriously fail to understand the kirik in these young films makers minds, one shows a dad sacrificing his daughter, one asks his Gf to lick his boots and one wants NSG commandos to be disrobed by a bunch of female convicts and criminals. SHAME!! 0.5/5 (only for Anirudh Ravichander).
I didnt mind Leo, Saw it few days back on NF. The first half is quite good , Vijay has actually acted for a change. The cafe scene is brilliantly done. Second half is not so great and i also found the whole Elisa angle very unconvincing. The preclimax and climax though is quite good. Overall weakest movie of LCU specially after VIkram which was a cracker…A movie that doesnt come together as a whole but has few good scenes. Liked the Ready Song quite a lot the way it was shot.
The dunki trailer gives weird vibes. I have serious doubts SRK might have ruined it with his vision instead of Hirani’s.
Besides, he appears to have done the unthinkable by hamming to the hilt in a Hirani film. His accent sounds like he is mocking Punjabis instead of being one
Doing 400crrs itself is a monumental achievement for Animal given A+ rating, violence, misogyny, 3.5hrs runtime and all. As family audience is cut off and with the above factors 400crr looked like best outcome. But it had proved all theories wrong so far (repeat value and all). And if not for Salaar/Dunki releasing on 21st it might have challenged Jawan as well. Ranbir should be careful for his next couple of projects and shouldn’t destroy the momentum which he did after YJHD.
I find it rather amusing when people say it’s a monumental achievement for Animal considering its rating and the director has guts to show something like this. Dude, this guy knew what he was doing. A couple of scenes apart, this film has nothing going for it. No proper story, oft repeated father son and revenge saga.
The man relied on gimmicks and appealed to the psychology of the lowest common denominator among the frustrated mass men audience. If the theatre response is anything to go by, the whistles and claps come when this guy is showing women their place or indulging in downright toxic and troublesome behaviour. Stop pretending its a Fight Club or A Clockwork Orange in terms of its ‘polarising’ effect. Its downright mediocre cinema pretending to be kickass

After long time T-series got a blockbuster, I wouldn’t trust their official numbers very easily. Eventually 2% difference like others would not be a problem as it’s still doing phenomenal around mid 30s. Himesh gave Tue range as 33.50 to 34.50 for Hindi.
Today Animal is fantastic on BMS..
We could see something like 30 + 27 + 27 + 35 + 45 next 5 days. that should take it to 400 by Sunday EOD. Beating Jawaan is quite achievable if it shows the above trend even if XMAS release are good. Salaar will have direct competition in SS with Animal and everything will be compared with it due to the genre
People underestimate anything provocative or titillating boxoffice business. Shekhar Kapur made so much artsy Bandit Queen but it became huge blockbuster and masses were thronging at the cinemas all day along and it did huge business and higher than big commercial hits of that year. It has no business to do even 10% of its original run if not for the rapes, sexual dialogues and titillating scenes.
Go and check the history, much higher than what numbers project. Artsy movies used to do business in lakhs that time. Animal still is proper commercial entertainer with great songs, action and still such massy scenes.
If SVR makes R-rated action movie again with real nudes scenes with some good A lister like Ranbir, it’ll do 700 crores, Lol.

Tiger 3 saw a drop in business on Tuesday as Monday had benefitted .from Guru Nanak Jayanti. The film has failed to recover much in Gujarat from the hit it took for bad weather on Sunday. The film is now heading for second week total of 24.50 crore nett.
The drop on Tuesday will also make it tough for business when Animal releases and its looking a 270 crore nett finish. The film should have done better but even still its not a bad result for a film which has not really worked and been hit by matches and a Sunday release which was not optimum.
The film is a HIT which are like gold dust at the moment but the industry will not see it like that as the expectations were of a BLOCKBUSTER film and as those have not been matched and wha happens then is a certain negativity spreads and this still applies even today when business is not optimum. Salman Khan didn’t give ATG even during his peak in action genre and expecting Tiger 3 to match Pathaan numbers was foolish in first place. Salman Khan fans loved Tiger 3 and many found it decent and that’s why it’s doing 270 crs. If it was little better it could have done 400 crs but it never had that craze for 500 crs or higher even prior to the release. But what can we say to someone who didn’t find craze for Pathaan or Jawan even few days before release. It was ideal 400 cr movie but it fell short of even that.

Doing 275 cr is good with mixed won..and that’s why I find it hard to believe that you find pathaans number as incorrect due to Kajol saying it ..left right and centre movies are threatening to do better than what they would have done earlier..animal can open close to 50 cr, tiger opened close to 42 cr on a puja day but i never could understand why you would doubt pathaans 55cr odd opening for the same reasons that it is now easier to do 500 cr for all movies but pathaan didn’t do it…500 does appear easier than now, tiger would have done that with better wom and animal should do that if it is good with that opening..movies with clash like gadar doing 500 also but pathaan hasn’t done is a contrary stance to your own stance on other similar things

This again shows a film doesn’t need a SRK or Salman to generate interest in a film. If a public wants to see a film, the sky is the limit.
Although Ranbir is a big star, this could have opened the TJMM way too. The trailer (especially the first 30 seconds) did a good enough job in making it viral and make viewers sit up and notice. It is now challenging Tiger 3/Pathaan opening in many centres, thanks majorly to how Ranbir acted out of his skin.
Many people might be booking their gickegs just to watch RK act.
A big achievement in today’s time and whosoever cut the trailer deserves a raise.

Don’t underestimate Bobby, interest was raised for many by that 2 second introduction of Bobby in the end of the initial teaser.
Even in the trailer, the portion of bobby smoking a cig on top of ranbir was best part of the trailer. Also, the gun is giving KGF2 vibes, which may have worked creating excitement in the B&C center as well.

After Pathaan, they were all gungho about Tiger Vs. Pathaan. This tells you how big Pathaan was.
After Tiger 3, they’re delaying it and may even be shelved (and go with just pathaan). This tells you that Tiger 3 has underperformed by a lot, in India and overseas, basically more than half of Pathaan.
I assume if Aditya keeps going with YRF, in near future, we’ll see ranbir and/or ranveer in it to keep franchise going.
I would actually love for Aditya to make a family drama movie in line with Kabhi Kabhi. It has been a while since we saw a proper family drama (rocky/rani had some of it).

The delay puts the focus on Srk’s next movie choice as very tricky. I don’t see any good film maker from Hindi who is a good follow up after Pathaan/Jawan. Apart from Sid, hardly any good directors to make huge projects in Hindi. Salman Khan is going with Tamil director, Vishnuvardhan for his next, The Bull with Karan Johar as producer. Will be very interesting what project SRK will sign now.
They should just make Pathaan 2 with Sid and 10 mins of Salman and 5 mins of Hrithik and if possible a south leading hero as the villain and it’ll be as huge as Tiger vs Pathaan collection wise. Why struggle to balance both superstars in one script.

Tiger vs pathaan made zero sense to srk once pathaan became so big..it became a strict no when jawan became even bigger…tiger 3 decision may have made yrf think but srk should have been saying no even before fate of tiger 3 was sealed. The atlee movie with Vijay is a far better choice..it’s still.not the perfect choice he should be going solo in an action genre but miles better than tiger vs pathaan. Inserting a pathaan cameo in tiger 3 may have also removed all the last bit of novelty left in tiger vs pathaan. He should ideally not be doing king also but if it is special appearance it is still okay. After tiger 3 no idea of pathaan 2 makes any sense to me..
Go for edgier directors..vanga was saying he wants to make a movie with srk..would love to see srk as an anti hero…otherwise right now atlee movie is a better choice than any other mistake he will make with the spy verse. If at all he has to do a spy verse do something like war 2 with a strong anti hero from other region..but even that will lose novelty post war2

Atlee’s next will take time and it’ll be 2026 release. Vanga’s next is just wishlist as he’s making Spirit next and then Allu Arjun, so he’s gone till 2027. Only director available is Sid Anand as TvP is delayed and he should do another movie with SRK outside of Spy Universe. Lokesh is also doing other movies etc. King is 2024 or early 2025 release and then SRK needs to start another movie like mid of next year for 2025 year end release. I’m waiting for that movie not far ahead. Don’t see anyone outside Sid.

If indeed 5 star it will go past 600cr.. because the Telugu version alone will do over 100cr..the first day advance is 33cr more than pathaans number but the hindi version advance is lesser. Telugu has sold around 3 lac tickets which is 30 percent of the overall tickets..that’s sensational..this was something we were 3xpecting jawan to do..animal has done it as the Telugu market is bigger

Bro sometimes it’s not that deep – animal seems like a masaleydar, intense film with plenty of action, a rebellious streak and seeti maar moments, and Sam Bahadur is obviously targeted towards a more intelligent audience.
Such a clash would be in favour of the more populist film anywhere in the world, similar to the Barbie vs Oppenheimer clash.

2nd half done.
Movie keeps the viewers interest, so length is not an issue. Bobby Deol has very limited screen time, should have been easily more. 2nd half first hour dips a bit but then pickups but climax fight could have been more better. The action is not only A rated stuff but the dialogues and other such stuff is borderline vulgar and not really worthy for big screen.
Will jot down more thoughts tomorrow . One thing I’m sure which many on Twitter claiming that this is not 500 cr movie yet. I’m not sure how many will go for 2nd time watch for few good sequences, so repeat audience will be low. Family audience and even women audience will skip. So, my guess is max 400 crs but should be in 300s IMO.
After long time some movie with discussions and debate about content and boxoffice.

See, it’s easy to criticize SVR movies. I really liked Kabir Singh and loved his style of story telling and following the main character. Here, he followed same but did some scenes for effect or create discussion points and didn’t come organically. The scenes are way long drawn out and fight sequences included. The character is not written with as much care as KS. So, here you have audience who don’t like his style of film making not liking this movie and then folks who loved his previous movie also getting disappointed. There might be some who’ll love it just for action and story at broad level but the number will be not huge. 2nd half makes it look typical gangster movie when it could have been so much different and better.

Salaar trailer is not that bad, but certainly gives you seen it all vibes.
I think the villains characters can make this work big time, movie will not work because of prabhas or action.
I have a feeling the other guy (his friend) will end up killing Prabhas in the end or prabhas killing his friend.

I didn’t know it’s a 2 part movie and the trailor gives me the feel that prabhas will enter only around half time and will be there for most of second half.
Overall it is a very stale trailor…it looks like some kingdom but they talk about Russia and Serbia…has a major kgf hangover…the budget is north of 200 crores…they could saved some portion just reusing costumes and sets of kgf or maybe they have already saved on it..
Dunki itself doesn’t look great from teaser but I don’t really see people flocking to salaar at all even in TN and CP CI now..the other territories apart from AP and Telangana I was anyways sure salaar will be second choice…

With the type of opening, hype/interest, i think 300 Cr is given. This will not die down like Tiger 3.
Only thing is once everyone finds out about the level of violence and vulgarity, it will drive away family audience who may go 2nd weekend, also, don’t think there will be lots of repeat audience.

This was never in radar for family audience. Only young couples and ones watching movies leaving out kids will be target but mostly its male population at massy centers. I have seen couple of public reviews and they were going gaga over sex scenes. I’m sure that’ll be natural progression for SVR to have nude scenes in his films with A grade stars.

Baradwaj got it right – the movie is absolutely a black comedy in many ways.
I mean casting Bobby Deol as a converted Muslim (previously a Sikh) with multiple wives, how can that not be reference to Daddy Deol?
It can also be seen as an unhinged reading of Shakti (Ranbir’s character is named Vijay, Anil who was Dilip’s grandson is the icy father here), Godfather and Mahabharata, with the metaphor of animal kingdom driving the entire narrative, but somehow it all works.
Vanga is definitely a pretty messed up dude though lol and has many provocative things to say.
Through Bobby’s character. he didn’t even shy away from showing the radical Islamic cultural invasion that’s currently happening in England/Scotland…ballsy.

Lol…Vanga is certainly fascinated by Punjabi culture, particularly the machismo element, but Ranbir’s character is also shown pretty critical of his cousins from the pind cheating on their spouses and sleeping around with prostitutes.
And I loved that part he included about Ranbir chiding a priest about calling the Swastika a Nazi symbol….a vast no. of Christians consider Hinduism a pagan religion, and it’s about time someone corrected them.
Another part that would turn off most people but I am glad it was there was when he tells his younger sister to have wine instead of whisky at his fathers bday.
His characters have a certain moral code that they abide by without subscribing to the “woke narrative” and the lack of political correctness is refreshing.
And then adding a villain who is basically living by the Sharia code and that too in Europe is such an apt metaphor for animalism that still exist in today’s world, not to mention one hell of a ballsy political statement.
The fact that Vanga was able to wrap a somewhat masala plot around such weighty stuff isn’t a small achievement.

You are not entirely right. A thing to note is these days public interest is gauged through number of advance tickets sold and not through actual collections. When the films you mentioned are leaving the number of tickets sold by the likes of Sultan/War behind, their final business must be much kore than what those films achieved.
Besides, over the top machismo (no matter how sadistic) is the bait for the audience of today. No wonder they’re forming gangs and mobs to watch these films

Animal is lower than Pathaan and Jawan. Jawan has same number of advance of Pathaan but the walk in crowds gave it over 10 crore more collection than Jawan (65 vs 55). So, that’s the difference where the audience started coming back to cinemas in huge way from Pathaan to Jawan.

I watched it on the big screen and there are very few films in the history of Indian cinema that match the level of “elevation” and hype that the fight and Arjun Velly song created before the intermission. The audience was literally mesmerized.
To say that Animal is just another film is simply wrong and in fact it’s a testament to Pathan that such an avg and vapid film opened as big as Animal.

Pathaan a lot of people I know liked it and almost all of them didn’t like jawaan as much…but I also saw that the ones who did like jawaan hadn’t liked pathaan as much or found it less interesting . 😄

It’s impossible if you haven’t seen anyone who liked Pathaan. I mean, what’s not there to not like..it’s promoted as popcorn entertainer and delivered exactly that with excellent stunts, fairly interest plot, great villain and inform SRK and excellent songs. Seriously, what’s not to like unless one is expecting some sort of classic in such OTT genre.

For sure a large strata is liking this a lot for it to not have any crack yet in the collections…

I will prefer watching Animal on OTT. The next film that can get me buy a theater ticket is Dune 2 on Mar 1, 2024.
By the way, Oppenheimer ended its WW run at $950M. Most amazing film and best box office story of 2023!

Tomorrow Ranga can abashedly make a film about a criminal exploiting and raping women and then make him walk out in slow mo and a blaring BG score. As long as he’s the lead character and justifies his action as the women being pseudo feminists and him having enough of their rants, our junta will lap it up and even whistle in theatre.
That doesn’t make the director a no holds barred filmmaker. Only makes him an irresponsible assh*le with serious issues.
The issue is where does one draw the line?

US has worst history of gun shooting in schools and I hope the teens or youngsters don’t think it’s cool to take guns to schools now in response for any fights. Bad precedent.

Firstly, Vanga’s yet to make a film on a rap e happy protagonist so lets not get into assumptions or count chickens before they hatch. As for societal impact, I’m equally bothered about a vigilante hijacking a metro during peak hour in the name of the “greater good” or releasing criminals out of a women prison to fight bonafide NSG commandos (in the name of female empowerment) as i am about someone totting guns at a campus.
The difference being stuff like Hirani films & Jawan have a much more masala narrative that allows the viewer to ignore their sinister undertones in the name of “entertainment” while SVR is a lot more serious & intense about his portrayals (isn’t a bad thing imo).
Will reserve further comments once I’m done watching Animal.

Any surprises that both Sanju and now Animal have the same star? Hirani making a light hearted biopic about a criminal and blaming a newspaper’s ‘question mark’ for all his issues was unintentionally hilarious.
Seetis and taalis on the gun brought by a school boy in a college in view of students and teachers is reflective of a deranged society and jungle raj.
SRV states that we are slaves to our basic instincts. Fine, it’s one thing to make a movie on it (Jalikattu comes to mind). But when he justifies this act as cool and macho, is his point that these acts should be okay when someone hurts your male ego and sentiments? Don’t we have enough incidents when boys and girls are killed and bodies slashed in the name of upholding family honour?
Don’t know what the censor board in India is smoking up while passing such grand commercial films for wide public consumption but cuts Deepika’s bikini shots in Besharam Rang for 5 seconds. It’s a joke, really.

You may not be wrong that it is possible to get 500crs now for more movies but jawaan did close to 650cr which actually makes it among the biggest Hindi movie even with the 500 equal to 300 yardstick..

Jawan did 650 crs without any holidays or festive period. The first real holiday was 1st Sunday and it did 80 crs and could have done 90 crores if there wasn’t India vs Pakistan ODI match. But no one will talk about it. Will do dumb comparisons Diwali day openings to weekdays opening and call it same.

This has got to be the wake-up call for Hindi cinema and its trashy films, which have brought this disaster upon themselves. Who apart from Raju Hirani and SLB have really been making grand commercial films that aren’t lazy ventures? Which commercial movie directors do we have? Rohit Shetty? Ahmed khan/kabir khan? Ali Abbas Zafar? Vijay Krishna Acharya? Indra Kumar? Farhad Samji? Karan Johar assistant directors making debut films? Such sorry names that can’t make anything worthwhile and rely on franchise films for successes.
Of course we have Raghavan and Sircar and Motwane etc but they are in a different space and have not been making films as frequently as they should be. Sircar especially seems to have disappeared after making Gilabo Sitabo

While both jawaan and animal are mass movies in one way it’s pretty clear that anim operates in a very different space which bollywood don’t even operate it..the scenes I am hearing in animal are quite radical to be honest..I know shivaay says Telugu cinema but don’t think Telugu also go this vile…I was not planning to see animal but I am not proud to admit that I feel that i should see it now even after hearing the depiction of females etc..i might even like this movie if the depiction is consistent to the character .

Some publishers have reached out but the kind that demand money. I’m not sure if they can be deemed trustworthy and can customise it the way I want once they get the money.
KDP is definitely a better option but not sure about the reach.

With KDP, the self-publishing bit is easy. But its only half the job done. You will need to have a self-promotion and marketing strategy in place which will need quite some effort (and time) to implement.
But keep at it and it can work wonders if you are lucky! Some self-published books have really done well in bestseller lists and all that jazz, and have successfully reached out to a lot of people! And sometimes your self-publish book may get picked up by a big publishing house after they see some success in your sales. So, a lot can happen with open possibilities.
I will suggest that you do some online research on how to promote/market your self-published book (and it differs a lot for fiction and non-fiction books). But hey! If that is your pet project, you wont mind spending the required time on these aspects. You just need to be aware of the options.

If you want one, try by inducing yourself into some writer’s clubs and meetups and you may just get the right recommendation for the right agent you need …

Mid way through Sam Bahadur.. a very underplayed film that focuses more on the drama than the theatrics. Vicky’s perfect as expected but Sanya Malhotra is a perfect foil as Mrs Manekshaw. Interval scene when Field Marshal Sam gets introduced to Indira is pure 🔥

Completed. Good, solid docu drama film the chronicles the life and times of Field Marshal Manekshaw in a hagiographical format. His equation with his IMA batchmates, his wife as well as ex PM Indira has been accurately & adequately portrayed without too much melodrama or shenanigan.
The film excels in its portrayal of the various regiments of the Indian Army as well as the mutually admirable equation the Field Marshal shared with his Jawans & officers.
The main complaints – Nothing about his childhood and university life. Its a bit problamatic to portray such a rich illustrious life in 2.5 hours but his early days, his equation with his parents & school life deserved to be touched upon.
Also, absolutely no real life footage of the Field Marshal through the film despite smart direction of apt usage of real life footage in portrayal of the ’71 war.
Worth Watching film nevertheless. Kudos to Kaushal and Meghna in equal measure.

If it was that simple, then films like “Thank you for coming” would be becoming big hits. People are showing up for Animal because it is a very intense and masculine film that keeps you on the edge.
If Andrew Tate could be summed up as a film, this would be it. Men all over the world have been emasculated due to wokeness and a film like this definitely appeals to a large section of people (men and women) and their basic human instincts.

Virat Kohli is aggressive but I don’t think he’s any issues in respecting women or feminists. I have had problem with old movies of 70-80s where hero used to slap girlfriend or wife or sister, because there was some issue/disagreement dealing with hero’s Mom or dad; and audience use to clap at such scenes.
Not sure what was slap signifying; that issue is resolved, or your voice is not needed or, slap will make female realise her mistake. It was convenient plotting for director than using drama to resolve the issue.

Taking leave in the middle of an Aussie tour as a captain at the heights of a pandemic when half your side is out injured is nothing short of treason & deserting your battalion. No reason big or small can be greater than donning the uniform, especially for the captain of the #1 test side in the world. I have no interest in Kohli’s opinions on feminism but I do know that despite being an all time great, he’s a wus with a bloated ego, filmy theatrics and zilch man management skills unlike his predecessors. Thank goodness we had a Rahane to don the mantle and inspire a legendary series win down under, something that’s as memorable as 1983 for every genuine cricket fan of team India.

BB2 price were 3x the price of pathaan/jawaaan or any other bollywood movie. I myself had paid $33 per ticket where I had paid $10 for Pathaan and $9.50 for Jawan.
We’ll see something similar when dunki/salaar release but salaar ticket price at double of dunki.

The bigger and fair comparison was RRR and Pathaan opened closer RRR(coming with full Baahubali hype and tow big stars) opened on twice the screens in 4 languages and 3 times the ticket prices and yet Pathaan managed to touch its opened 1st weekend and also crossed final gross in just 1 language. It is simply unbelievable record if you know understand the details which many outside US won’t understand it.

You will never know something in detail until you live it 24/7.
USA movie ticket prices are not complex. It’s pretty straight forward with each movie theater will have same price regardless of if a movie star is Tom Cruise or someone nobody knows; regardless of it’s a film by James Cameron or someone nobody knows; regardless of it’s Avenger/Avatar or a film made on shoestring budget by someone nobody knows.
Also, everything is tracked via national online database.
It’s very easy to analyze USA box office.

While everyone is going gaga over Ranbir performance, let me be the one to tell it first. Ranbir did great but it’s not very difficult performance. I see many reviews saying no one can do this role. I think Ranveer Singh or even Shahid Kapur could do this equally good. The movie works well as we have seen Ranbir in this avatar first time but as performance it’s not like others can’t carry this role. It’s not even as challenging as it’s being made out. That doesn’t mean it’s not great performance and he has great chance of sweeping all awards this year but other stars could also do this role unlike say Sam Bahadur where only limited actors can do it.

I firmly believe we will certainly see lot more “A” rated films going forward.
So what we have been seeing on some of the OTT shows, it will become norm for big screen too.
I don’t expect someone like srk/salman/HR/devgan/akshay to do “A” type film but ranbir, ranvir, shahid, etc will go for it without any issues.

Dunki will not create any records in opening. It’s not that kind of movie. First, we have to see if folks will make it huge blockbuster for a non-action movie post pandemic. If that works, then another huge blockbuster is enough, ATB is possible but that’s lifetime records not opening day records or opening weekend day records.

It’s a very tight budget movie so recovery will be at 100 cr but for public perception, 300 cr is needed.

Simply put. Nothing will help except that movie is great. Srk’s stardom will not help much like Jawan or Pathaan. Here, Raju Hirani should be in good form and if the movie is good, collections will come. 300 crs is great and 400 is huge and 500 is ATB as it’s coming with huge clash.

Dunki will open huge even if it opens in the middle of the night on a random Monday.
SRK’s stardom is and has been extraordinary even during his leanest patches – even when he didn’t deliver a hit for a decade, he was still getting massive openings with abysmal films like zero.
And for kids born in in the 90s, he is the ultimate Indian movie star as Amitabh’s classics are too dated or too old for them. Films like Kal Ho Na Ho and K3G are like Sholay for them, I have spoken with quite a few in Canada and India and that’s how much they love these films.
Has there been any comeback as strong as Pathan and Jawan in the history of Hindi cinema? And this is coming from someone who despised both films.

One can find a scene or two in just about any actor and director movie where something is questionable. But what’s V Reddy is doing is kind of glorifying it and giving it a stamp of it being okay.
There’s a huge difference between besharam song and what reddy is showing.
I guess each era had a director that would push the boundry. I vaguely remember Qurbaani being one but it wasn’t outright objectionable.
Satyam Sivam Sundaram was another but there was some story there.

Animal is sort of unique polarizing movie. Ideally of there are so many people coming out and giving it 0 stars and trashing it badly, no way it should be doing numbers like this. I can understand Gadar2, if not great wasn’t a movie which anyone hated or gave 0 stars but here many in crowd are absolutely hating it and calling it nonsense film but collections hasn’t shown any cracks. For me personally, 1st half is good and 2nd half is where the movie went downhill. As KRK says bahut lukkhe log hai desh mein, so it’s running full everywhere even families, kids not watching it.

I have serious doubts about people following the ‘no children allowed’ policy in theatres in India. No one really checks who’s watching what beyond the city multiplexes.

I have seen kids watching the movie with families and teens watching the movie for so called ‘mast scenes’. The response is going beyond regular film audience now if teens are thinking this is some sort of soft porn( it’s not) but that’s the best you can get with A lister actor.

I think social media is dishonest on this movie. People dont want to be seen associating with this movie for fear of being judged so they are trashing it in public but privately they have liked it. This is not abnormal behavior in human beings. Even politician have tapped this latent need for their benefit…A friend told me about this book which highlights what people truly wants and what they portray in public. Hence Google searches are a better indicator of their real personality rather than their FB page. A latent desire can be tapped. Like how BJP taped the latent hatred for Muslims among middle class (this is true not geting into whether it is good or bad as thats politics) Vanga doing the same. People like extreme violence and sex. Game of thrones also is a major hit..it shows animalitic tedencies in humans with extreme violence and sex. Vanga tapping into it smartly..

Animal has recorded an insane Monday as it records collections of 36-37 crore nett in Hindi and the all formats total will be going towards the 40 crore nett. It is one of the highest Mondays ever and if all holiday affect is taken out the films above it then it will be the highest Monday ever.
The collections of the film are 206 crore nett in four days and this Monday hold has set it up for a huge run till Christmas and the film could go anywhere. There have been a few of these big grossers this year but Animal is the one giving the best all round performance. Jawan and Pathan saw underperformance in Punjab, Central and Gujarat while Gadar 2 was less in West Bengal and South but with Animal its just mainly Tamil Nadu / Kerala which hardly matter and maybe can be called a little down in West Bengal even though collections are great. Its just they are not outstanding.
The biggest plus for the film is the way Maharashtra and Gujarat have come on board and it looks there will be no stopping this film in this circuit now and if this continues it will be the first film from the Hindi film industry which is outstanding in both the major areas of Mumbai and North India.
The holds are superb all over with some mass pockets only down around 25% while the bigger falls in multiplexes has come and is always there due to the drop in rates while even in multiplexes the admits remain pretty similar to the Friday. Basically the film has simply torn the box office apart and its the fourth one this year after Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan.

The Ranbir Kapoor-led Animal is on a dream run at the box office in India. After scoring Rs 169.50 crore through its opening weekend, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has scored an extraordinary hold in collections on Monday. According to early estimates, Animal has collected in the range of Rs 35.00 to Rs 37.00 crore on its fourth day taking the total collections to Rs 205 crore. The numbers have come despite a 25 percent drop in the prices, and the footfalls for day four will be very close to the opening day.
Animal scores the second biggest Non-Holiday Monday of All Time
The Ranbir Kapoor-led Animal has scored the second biggest non-holiday Monday of all time after the Sunny Deol-led Gadar 2, which collected around Rs 38 crore on its fourth day. One must note that Gadar 2 benefitted with better hold in the night shows due to the Independence Day Holiday on Tuesday and Animal is devoid of any such holiday benefit. There was a huge spillover of audience from the opening weekend to Monday, which has resulted in an extraordinary hold in collections, going beyond all expectations.The top 3 national chains – PVRInox & Cinepolis – have collected Rs 17.00 crore on Monday as compared to Rs 24.60 crore on the opening day, which is a drop of about 30 percent from the opening day.
The film has entered the Rs 200 crore club in just 4 days and is now targeting to enter the Rs 300 crore club in a matter of 7 to 8 days. Animal has held strong in the Telugu and Tamil dubbed version too, as the film was rock-steady collecting Rs 3.50 crore on the fourth day. The All India nett total of Animal stands at Rs 233 crore and the film will zoom past the Rs 250 crore club on the fifth day of its run. The film is already a BLOCKBUSTER and it’s the second weekend which will tell us if it ends up being a SUPER BLOCKBUSTER or an ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER in the long run.
These are humongous numbers and the four-day run truly stands for ‘setting the box office on fire’. It has also established the superstardom of Ranbir Kapoor and it’s all about going up and above from hereon in the time to come by, placing him miles above all his contemporaries in the post-2007 era.

Tried watching Leo, couldn’t finish beyond the Elisa sacrifice scene. One of the highest levels of c*utiyapa you can ever imagine. Incompetent direction, awful performances, horrendous screenplay and unintentionally funny dialogues. I seriously fail to understand the kirik in these young films makers minds, one shows a dad sacrificing his daughter, one asks his Gf to lick his boots and one wants NSG commandos to be disrobed by a bunch of female convicts and criminals. SHAME!! 0.5/5 (only for Anirudh Ravichander).

I didnt mind Leo, Saw it few days back on NF. The first half is quite good , Vijay has actually acted for a change. The cafe scene is brilliantly done. Second half is not so great and i also found the whole Elisa angle very unconvincing. The preclimax and climax though is quite good. Overall weakest movie of LCU specially after VIkram which was a cracker…A movie that doesnt come together as a whole but has few good scenes. Liked the Ready Song quite a lot the way it was shot.

Doing 400crrs itself is a monumental achievement for Animal given A+ rating, violence, misogyny, 3.5hrs runtime and all. As family audience is cut off and with the above factors 400crr looked like best outcome. But it had proved all theories wrong so far (repeat value and all). And if not for Salaar/Dunki releasing on 21st it might have challenged Jawan as well. Ranbir should be careful for his next couple of projects and shouldn’t destroy the momentum which he did after YJHD.

I find it rather amusing when people say it’s a monumental achievement for Animal considering its rating and the director has guts to show something like this. Dude, this guy knew what he was doing. A couple of scenes apart, this film has nothing going for it. No proper story, oft repeated father son and revenge saga.
The man relied on gimmicks and appealed to the psychology of the lowest common denominator among the frustrated mass men audience. If the theatre response is anything to go by, the whistles and claps come when this guy is showing women their place or indulging in downright toxic and troublesome behaviour. Stop pretending its a Fight Club or A Clockwork Orange in terms of its ‘polarising’ effect. Its downright mediocre cinema pretending to be kickass

After long time T-series got a blockbuster, I wouldn’t trust their official numbers very easily. Eventually 2% difference like others would not be a problem as it’s still doing phenomenal around mid 30s. Himesh gave Tue range as 33.50 to 34.50 for Hindi.

We could see something like 30 + 27 + 27 + 35 + 45 next 5 days. that should take it to 400 by Sunday EOD. Beating Jawaan is quite achievable if it shows the above trend even if XMAS release are good. Salaar will have direct competition in SS with Animal and everything will be compared with it due to the genre

People underestimate anything provocative or titillating boxoffice business. Shekhar Kapur made so much artsy Bandit Queen but it became huge blockbuster and masses were thronging at the cinemas all day along and it did huge business and higher than big commercial hits of that year. It has no business to do even 10% of its original run if not for the rapes, sexual dialogues and titillating scenes.
Go and check the history, much higher than what numbers project. Artsy movies used to do business in lakhs that time. Animal still is proper commercial entertainer with great songs, action and still such massy scenes.
If SVR makes R-rated action movie again with real nudes scenes with some good A lister like Ranbir, it’ll do 700 crores, Lol.

I remember watching evening show (I think first day) of Bandit Queen in Nigar, Kanpur (now closed, in front of PPN college); there was decent crowd in balcony (30-40%..people were afraid of violence). There was one young couple in mostly male crowd but as soon as “BC” was used on screen, they walked out of the hall.
