Sridevi’s expressions are clearly more exagerrated in the Hindi version. In the Tamil one, it’s more subtle. But overall, I think Ae Zindagi is the slightly more haunting track.
One reads constantly about how the current crop of actresses prepared for thier roles etc etc. Pity none of them are even a patch on Sri and the range of roles that she has done.
Incidentally, the instrumental version of ‘Poogatru’ is also very good.
The Ae Zindagi Gale laga le song that Ilaiyaraja made for the Hindi version was later re-used for Thambikku Entha Ooru (incidentally a very good soundtrack) a year later:
It’s a beautiful tune by the maestro.. candidly I think it’s better than anything in Moondram pirai much as I like a couple of the songs here.. Kamal always had a complaint that Raja didn’t give him the kind of blockbuster soundtracks he gave Rajni and I think there’s a great deal of truth to this! But then you save your best for Rajni! And Raja was doing this even from the early 80s!
