Hey guys as we have now started even to explore historical cinemas than this is where it all began in India. The theater in Pic was India’s first Silent movie theater. Also indias first British 5 star (may be 4 star dont know exactly) Watson hotel was here, and legend has it Mr. Tata was not allowed to enter here and then he built The Taj Mumbai.

I dont know exact history which movie was shown first, when etc but i know this was the first silent movie theater in India. Thought u might find it interesting.
Its located at Kalaghoda, Churchgate, Mumbai. Its know for its Architecture, and even today students visit and learn architect from it and its located exactly opposite famous Raja bhai tower. Its historic value cant be put down as some say journey of indian cinema began through silent movies which gave way for later techs to come and takeover.

  4. m going to office in first week october so will try to find out from some historian…

my assumptions on the name of the theater…but i assume it was a hotel which lay platform for silent movies… rather than itserlf being a theater… may be all the rich and social people gather to gether here and watched it under roof of hotel… Hotel might have done it for good buisness and novelty at that period time ..
