Louis Malle mentioned on the Filmfare cover! those were the days! They’re referring to his documentary on India here.

Never liked Sadhana myself. But here is an iconic moment of ‘late’ Sadhana:

Haha, thanks Satyam. Sadly by the late 60’s her thyroid condition had affected her severely and she ended up needing operations on her eyes, after which she never quite looked the same. But to her credit she had successes even after her comeback, like Geeta Mera Naam. (I liked her Dil Daulat Duniya with Khanna from that time – good comedy)
But her best days were behind her and she soon packed up and retired. I read a quote of her’s where she said the reason for her complete disappearance from the public eye is that she would like ppl to remember her from the Aarzoo days.
She looked so beatiful in the early sixties in the films with Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor etc. And the soundtracks in her movies were all magic. And just about all her films were silver jubilee hits apparently.
My favourites of her’s are:
Mera Saaya
Woh Kaun Thi
Dulha Dulhan
Hum Dono
Parakh
Mere Mehboob
Aarzoo
Waqt
Love in Simla
Asli Naqli
Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena
Parakh
Prem Patra
Every single one of those films also had an awesome soundtrack.
Still need to see Gaban, Anita and Ishq Par Zor Nahin.

That’s my list too.
I wrongly mentioned ‘Godan’ earlier when I meant ‘Gaban’. I saw it on TV long ago, and have a faint memory of her and Sunil Dutt.
Anita is one of the triologies, and quite interesting.
I like the songs of Ek Musafir Ek Haseena the best .
Especially this one.

she looks past her prime in this pic or maybe, it is the thyroid involvement…

For me, Sadhana goes together with her 2 ‘jhumka’ songs.
So sad about her illness, and loss of those lovely looks one sees in this song.

She looks amazingly young here,–almost unrecognizable when you compare this to her late 60s movies. Another place where she looks different (from what thought she looked like) is in the Parakh song–O sajanam barkha bahaar aai song.

Yes, doesn’t she?
This song, ‘mila hai kisi ka jhumaka’ is also from Parakh.
The other jhumka song is from mere saya ‘jhumka gira re’.

i remember her mostly for being the actress on whom one of my all-time favorite songs has been picturised…..
“Lag ja gale” from “woh Kaun thi”–
Apart from the ethereal singing, music; the lyrics were really haunting.
This song amazingly is again a frequent on my paylist along with another “late bloomer”. not sure if anyone shares my (over)enthusiasm for “raah e rehte hain” from namkeen– i am unable to get out from the “loop” of this song lately.
And salimjakhra –on an unrelated front—what do u feel about the more recent– rabbbi shergills music–also enjoying it currently

I vaguely remember a really funny song/scene with Khanna/Sadhana/Helen in the bedroom, but dont really remember what was going other, other than there was some secret being kept or something like that.

Yeah, another really cute song ‘Masti aur jawani ho’ with all three of them. And here’s a recap of the film. It was quite a lot of fun but didn’t run I believe.

I think , the Louis Malle film had footage of the temple car procession in Mylapore. It’s a very interesting documentary..

From Upperstall:
Bimal Roy’s Parakh (1960) was her next film where she was cast as a simple girl without her trademark fringe. Sadhana responded with perhaps the best performance of her career. Bimal Roy while taking Sadhana in the film, said she reminded him of a young Nutan who incidentally was Sadhana’s favourite actress. Ironically after Love in Simla, when Sadhana reported for the shooting of Parakh, Bimalda almost dropped her as he now found her too glamorous. Sadhana pushed back her fringe, sprayed gel on it to make it stay and convinced Bimalda she could look simple as well. Shorn of her glamour and trademark fringe, Sadhana lets the focus be on her performance & gives a sincere, simple and understated performance.

I really really love this duet.
She looks beautiful. Nice film with Shashi Kapoor. And wicked lyrics by Gulzar.
