This is one movie that seems to draw laughs with every sequel. Hera Pheri started out with Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. Now, in its latest avatar, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Nana Patekar will be seen essaying the lead roles. Hera Pheri 4 is on the anvil and it will be directed by Anees Bazmee. The film will go on floors next month. Confirming the news Abhishek Bachchan said, “Yes, I have signed the film and we will start shooting next month.”

Fans of the Hera Pheri series will be disappointed that the funny trio of Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal will not be acting in the fourth part of this comic caper. Abhishek will replace Akshay, Sanjay Dutt will reprise Suniel Shetty’s role and Nana Patekar will be essaying Paresh Rawal’s role.

The original stars — Akshay, Suneil and Paresh — were supposed to be a part of the film but their dates were not available. Sources say that the trio has now lost interest in the series. Hence, director Anees Bazmee decided to rope in a new cast for the movie. Confirming our news director Anees Bazmee said “Yes I have signed Abhishek, Sanjay and Nana but they have not replaced Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty or Paresh Rawal. The subject is entirely new and will be written according to my sensibilities.”

When asked who be will be playing the female lead opposite the heroes the director informs “We have not yet signed any heroine for the movie. We are working on it and will be making the announcements soon.”

He adds, “It will be a rip-roaring comedy like the earlier series. Right now, I am busy shooting for Ready with Salman and Asin and as soon as we complete this series, we will start shooting for Hera Pheri 4. I am also planning a sequel to No Entry and the scripting work is in progress.”

Finally, good call by Abhishek! This is a real good move in addition to the AM flick – if they’re still in their ‘Race’ form!

KHJJS looks pale – doesn’t look good from a BO POV.

  2. I hate to see Abhishek in Akshay’s kind of films. BUT to get BO, that is only option now. Comedy is my last option, though I like humour in Balki’s films.

    • I wish he would err more on the side of masala than this sort of stuff.. what is nonetheless interesting though is the extent to which all kinds of directors are willing to work with him the moment he shows that sort of inclination, and irrespective of how he’s been doing at the box office. Bazmee has wanted to do two with him (Hangover being the other one). Abbas-MUstaan have just launched their biggest ever production with him. I doubt he’d do two comedies of this sort at the same time so I’m skeptical of the Rohit Shetty film. But this certainly was another option. He just needs to get the mix right at this point. Films like KHJJS aren’t the problem. But for these to be enabled the rest should work. Of course (and I’ve said this before) one should also be wary of some of these films. Because if one gets too successful doing them the ‘market’ can sometimes suck you in. Don’t expect him to be tempted in the same way. He walked away from it once after ’05 but one can never be certain. If he got say a 100 crore grosser doing a comedy it would be harder not to do it again. Not that he shouldn’t be doing this sort of safe stuff. He should probably have one safe project every year. Some years maybe more. At this point he needs to get more done than less, hence he’s signed two of these. But nonetheless it remains remarkable that these films are there for the asking! Still think he should be looking South. There are very many options here.

    • of course the irony here is that when Bazmee does a film with Abhishek he probably tries to get a bit more intelligent and thereby reduces the film’s prospects!

  3. An Anees Bazmee film carries zero prestige. This is where Abhishek differs from Hrithik, Aamir and SRK. He is working with the best but also the worst (Anees Bazmee, Rohit Shetty). I know that SRK has RA.one with an average director, but I have heard that film is really being directed by SRK himself.

BTW not saying Abhi can’t become successful using this model but an actor’s prestige immediately drops when he signs films like these. And I am sure Abhi would not have signed this, had his more substantial films (Raavan, Delhi 6) worked.

And trust me Anees Bazmee won’t try to get intelligent for Abhi or anyone…it’s just not possible for him.

    • I don’t disagree at all.. though I don’t see how Bazmee or Abbas-Mustaan are worse than Anubhav Sinha. I doubt SRK is directing it himself but if he is that might not be the best news for the film anyway. I suspect SRK is really taking care of the SFX side of it. On the rest it’s certainly true he wouldn’t have done this if Raavan or D6 had worked. At the same time if you do the mix you have to choose this kind of deal. Because no film in this sort of format can have the Rathnam or Mehra or Gowariker or Bhansali (or whoever) kind or prestige. Of course there’s a difference even between Abbas-Mustaan and bazmee. My point though was a different one. These directors are who the distributors love, specially a Bazmee. When a star is in trouble having done ‘different’ films that didn’t work he could do worse than sign on some of the biggest commercial directors around! Aamir is in a different league though note that many of those projects become prestigious because he does them. He doesn’t necessarily work with the most prestigious directors around. SRK I would say rarely does this these days. At least he doesn’t have the really big prestige names.

On Bazmee getting intelligent that was a bit of a joke on my part. What I meant was that when Akshay’s in the film these guys really go to bargain basement level entertainment. But this is what they should do in any case. Any effort to tone things down is counter-productive. Of course Bazmee has done it on occasion even with Akshay. SIK is an example of this where for the format it was a lot more ‘sober’! Consequently also flatter. Speaking for myself I can’t stand this genre and again wish he’d looked South for some masala subjects.

  4. And if Sunil (I refuse to put an ‘e’ in his first name) Shetty is not interested in signing a film, then that should give u an idea of how it is going to be.

    • the actual deal here is that they wanted a change in the cast. No one refused anything. Sunil Shetty is not in a position to refuse this or any film. And Akshay would hardly be developing a conscience after so many comedies! They wanted the switch and decided it was better to change everything. Of course the absurd thing here is retaining the franchise title. Don’t think Dutt should have done this though. To do Shetty’s part in this franchise is really a comedown.

  5. Oops!

Still maintain that’s an ‘astute’ move – this is going to be a negative times negative equalling a huge plus.

Let’s see… my only concern being that it should have been directed by Priyadarshan.

  6. Anees Bazmee to start No Entry Mein Entry with Salman next

    By Joginder Tuteja, June 11, 2011 – 13:34 IST

Anees Bazmee Ready is a success story and en route to be a huge accumulator at the box office. While for Salman Khan this is his second big money spinner in a row after Dabangg, for director Anees Bazmee the film’s success has helped in leaving behind the average run of Thank You and the poor show of No Problem. The actor and director are now all set to pair up again with No Entry Mein Entry.

“Though there were talks of differences between Salman and Anees, especially towards the later stage of the filming of Ready, none of it is impacting their professional relationship. They were committed to make the sequel of No Entry and now that Ready has worked in a big way, they are now firming up plans to bring the film on floors. It would be called No Entry Mein Entry”, informs a trade source.

It would be interesting to see whether Salman would be able to allocate dates for No Entry Mein Entry. After all he is currently busy shooting for Bodyguard and would soon be travelling across the globe for Ek Tha Tiger.

Adds another industry observer, “This is not all as he has family engagements to take care of as well. He is committed to start (tentatively titled) Sher Khan with Sohail Khan. Then there is also Dabangg with Arbaaz Khan in the pipeline. His calendar is choc-o-block.”

Anees Bazmee is undeterred though and already has a Plan B in place. Though he confirms that No Entry Mein Entry with Salman would indeed happen, he also adds that he is yet to pick and choose between No Entry Mein Entry and Hera Pheri 4 which has been commissioned to him.

“The final call is yet to be taken”, says Bazmee who is happy about being back in the big money business with Ready doing bumper business all over, “It could be either No Entry Mein Entry or Hera Pheri 4, the film I am committed to do for Firoz Nadiadwala.”

He promises though that this time around he would be cautious before starting any of the two films. “Even if everything is in place and star dates are available, I am sure I won’t be doing both films together. I have tried that earlier with Thank You and Ready and understand that it is an extremely difficult task. I would be doing only one film at a time.”

Interestingly, Hera Pheri 4 won’t feature either of the three original cast members – Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty or Paresh Rawal. Buzz in the air is that Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan and Nana Patekar would be coming in as replacement though Bazmee refuses to confirm as of now.

  7. Bazmee loses out to Bachchan

The filmmaker who had initially expressed his doubts about Abhishek’s bankability in Hera Pheri 4, has been thrown out of the project altogether

Posted On Wednesday, June 06, 2012 at 04:16:26 AM

He was the king of slapstick comedy. With films like No Entry, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng to his name, Anees Bazmee was the undisputed ruler of the box office when it came to humour.

However, after two failed ventures (Thank You and Ready) and a wrong decision (one that seemed right at the moment) the director seems to have hit a rough patch.

Mirror has learnt that the sequel to Hera Pheri that was supposed to be directed by Bazmee has changed hands. Neeraj Vora, who directed Hera Pheri 3 (titled De Dana Dan), will take over the latest project of the successful franchise.

Confirming the news, Bazmee told Mirror, “I am not directing Hera Pheri 4.” When we asked him the reason, he simply told us, “The star cast has changed. Akshay and all are not there.”

However, initially Bazmee was rather excited about directing Hera Pheri 4 and had even completed the script. The film had been announced with Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles replacing Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. Nana Patekar was supposed to take over from Paresh Rawal.

But later after Players released and tanked, Bazmee was no longer confident about directing his film with Abhishek’s bankability and the film was put in the freezer. “But now, the intitial response to Junior B in Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan has been favourable. So Bazmee was keen to revive the project,” revealed a source close to the project.

However, Abhishek no longer wants to be directed by Bazmee. “Abhishek told the producer Firoze Nadiadwala that he doesn’t want to work with Anees. Firoze called up Neeraj and asked him to direct the project. But Bazmee has written the script so he may be given the credit for it,” said the source.

According to the source, Bazmee is rather close to the producer and may get to direct the sequel to Welcome, titled Welcome Back.

When contacted, producer Firoze Nadiadwala decided to be elusive and said, “Nothing is finalised. By the end of June we will have complete clarity.”
