Sense a sweet winner here. The film features some of the best Marathi stage comic artists in supporting turns. Looking forward to the Sachin Tendulkar cameo as well.
I was looking forward to this but the trailer is unexciting. I hate that Sharman Joshi is acting like some kind of a caricaturish ‘bumbling simpleton’ since he is playing the sweet, ordinary man next door. The average guy might not be a Bollywood hero- but he is hardly an imbecile either- as Bollywood so often likes to portray him.
Well it looks like Saurabh had the same reaction to me – so its not just me being cynical. Whats so cynical about saying that the Everyman doesn’t have to be reduced to a caricature? Anyway- Its a Hirani film starring a good non-star actor- will probably go see it just for that.
@ami- yes, even i felt the same thing(hadn’t read ur comment before). but even ‘tony’ made a valid point that things in hirani’s world play out like a fable. also i like that even though these characters r a little caricaturish, there is a certain simplicity to them which makes them affable(even the antagonists)…something which is also present in r.k.laxman’s cartoon. by the way, ami, which part of the country/world do u cum from? r u in college? any other hobbies?
I change my words.. The latest promo is much better..
I expect a heartwarming film here! Vinod Chopra productions might have another good film coming up in FKS.
Suddenly looking forward to this.
And I find Sharman Joshi to be a sincere actor.
yes, the promo is good. just one thing, why does every character of the recent films of VVC productions has a ‘showy getup’ and behaves in a slightly caricaturish/cartoonish manner(boman in ‘3i’ and ferrari, anu kapoor in ferrari, hordes of actors in munnabhai films). not that i do not enjoy them, they r powerful in their but just in case this get-up falls a little hay-wire, it will stick out like a sore thumb
I guess any film with the Hirani stamp (he has penned the dialogues for this film) acts out like a fable. even in his munnabhai films, Munnabhai n Circuit’s outlandish clothes were very much a part of their character
Mumbai, May 8, 2012 (IANS)
There is no lead actress in “Ferrari Ki Sawaari”, but producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra is confident about the film’s box office performance and says he believes in telling good stories, and not in lead actors or actresses.
“We don’t make movies for leading men, leading women, item numbers. We don’t believe in that. We believe in a good story well told,” Chopra told reporters Monday here when asked would absence of a female lead affect the film’s success.
“When ‘Parinda’ was released, a Punjab distributor told me that the film would flop because Jackie Shroff doesn’t have a heroine, but the movie did well. We make good cinema,” he added.
Chopra was talking at the release of the film’s first song “Mara re sixer, mare re 4”.
First time director Rajesh Mapuskar has wielded the megaphone for the film, which is co-written by Mapuskar and Chopra. The film’s star cast includes Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani.
Apart from content, other highlights of the film are that it was at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, the child artist and of course, Vidya Balan’s item song.
“This is the first time that any film has been shot at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. They said no to us too. Then we sent our script; they saw our storyboard. Finally, they allowed us to use one room. But when they saw the commitment of the crew, they not only gave us the long room, which is historical, but also gave us the cricket ground, which was unbelievable. It was such an emotional moment for us,” said Chopra.
Talking about the child artist, whose name he is keeping under wraps, the filmmaker said: “It is almost impossible to miss the child in the movie.”
“The kid is one of the best performers. I told Sharman and Boman that now you have a natural performer. He has not even seen the film. His innocence is being preserved. He has no idea how he has done. We tried almost 10,000 kids and then found him,” he said.
Vidya had played female lead in Chopra’s super hit film “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” and in this film she would be seen doing her first ever item song. The film is releasing June 15.
“I don’t like the word, item number. Item number means, our film is not good, so we got an item girl and that’s why you watched it,” said Chopra and added that it’s a lavani dance.
“The director went to Pune to look for dancers. He messaged me from Pune and recommended Vidya, but I told him to leave it. He told me again to ask her and I sent Vidya a message. She said that she had been dying to do a lavani for 15 years. She rehearsed for 15 days and shot the scene.
“The rest of the dancers are authentic lavani professionals. The scene is a part of a wedding which Sharman attends in the film,” said Chopra.
I just randomly saw the second trailer here and must say that teaser was really misleading. This does look like a very Hirani-esque effort. Looking forward to it now.
I would be glad if it is. We need more and more film-makers like him. Then the so called star directors will be compelled to make something sensible. The part that I don’t understand is, VVC keeps going to SRK to offer him the lead role in most of his outings as a prod/director (Mission Kashmir, Munnabhai, 3 Idiots and FKS as well). SRK missed the opportunity on all the counts, Didn’t SRK stop and think for a moment that wait, I kind of need to do something out of the order and get back in the game, Why is she still opting for Johar’s, Don2’s, and now Yash raj. Doesn’t he think to reinvent himself a bit here. (By in all means not trying to pity SRK here, Glad he is not in any of these, or else I would have missed out on some good cinema). Just a thought.
Sharman Joshi’s Ferrari Ki Sawaari’s (FKS) release date is still about a month away. But the makers seem to have made money already. Collectively, the film’s theatrical, satellite, music and home video rights have allegedly been sold for a whopping Rs. 65 crores.

That sounds like a cynic’s opinion. If he suits a particular character that the writers have created for the film, whats the harm?
