  1. Thanx for this poster Satyam
Haven’t seen any of these films
    But some old vintage songs–
Felt Saira bano (if that’s her name) bit cute-ish
    Resembles nargis fakhri somewhat
    Even managed ‘revealing’ costumes well..
Not sure she was dilip Kumars wife no 2or 3 or 4? though…..

    • you mean this one? there is a bad link, scenes look spliced together.
saira was cute, she did ok in some roles but had a tendency to be shrill.

      • This is not the same song, but I love this one too. Lata and Usha Khanna made a great combo. Rafi has a wicked song in the film too ‘Jahaan Tu Hai Wahan Pe Chaandni Ko Kaun Poochega’

  4. Saira Banu did roles which were mostly not that of a suppressed woman, for which I appreciate her.
Yes, she did tend to get shrill – which only means that she wasn’t perfect as most others, but still much much better than all the commercial heroines of today.
We do appreciate Lata in spite of her shrill voice in the later years, from 70 onwards, I would say (or even mid 60s). πŸ™‚

I quite liked her in Sagina 1974 among many others.

The song starts at about 1:50

  5. Thanx Oldgold and Anya for those clips…
Younger Saira looks somewhat like a primordial version of nargis fakhri in few points / & in songs I saw somewhere …
    @ streetsmartyokel (Oldgold )
    Hahah what entertainment!
These talents will come handy in spoofs & that’s y u have been cast
Ps: the term ‘streetsmartyokel’ has come back to haunt utkal uncle πŸ™‚

      ugggghhhh!! Please don’t say that.
Where do you see a Daffy duck mouth/lips?
Saira Banu has far better expressions in her songs, and spoke like she should when speaking in a hindi film.

  6. Haha OG -I mean SSY
beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder πŸ˜‰
Also poor nargis didn’t know any Hindi when she did the film and was from a different land/ culture –so one should give her that leeway…lol
Ps: anyhow as we shall soon see in the spoofs/promos–nowadays the correct look/costumes/’enhancements’/Botox can make (nearly) anyone look good…(except the likes of Kareena)

Actually I forgot to add (after Daffy Duck lips) – “and all other jobs done to her face, like the nose’.

      >beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
Well, this beholder of beauty likes ‘honest/natural/beauty assets instead of acquired ones. πŸ˜‰

OK. I thought we were talking about beauty objectively, not what one is fantasizing, or what it does to you.
In that Saira would score zero from my side.
      I’m speaking aesthetically.
It’s like saying a woman is beautiful just because she has large assets.
I thought *I* was the sidey yokel types.

      • i think i’ve had this discussion with aa before. how men and women perceive beauty differently. women are more ‘objective’ about other women’s looks. but from my discussion with men, i do get the sense that large assets=beauty. i see how women even here in the west are perceived as pretty/hot if they are thin and blonde (naturally or otherwise) despite being very average looking. so the answer to how superficial can men be (in a broad generalization sense), the answer apparently is – infinitely πŸ™‚

        • also, i agree on saira. i think she was pretty (not just cute). and did do fairly nicely in earlier roles too, even junglee. i like her as well as sadhna, though they were never considered top stars. they were both pretty and stylish and could act too, but weren’t always caught up in ‘bechari’ roles, instead provided quite a variety. sadhna didn’t have the shrillness problem, but her career was sadly cut short by a medical condition that ruined her looks when she was still in her 20’s. mumtaz was the more stylish, sensuous and successful one in that type, her success story is one of my favorite ones in bw. some people who think srk was an ‘outsider’ who ‘inspiringly’ struggled his way to the top probably have never heard of her (this is not directed at you btw, i am talking of some other fans who are very devoted to that narrative)

        • I liked Sadhana the most out of that whole pack of 60’s heroines (Asha Parekh, Nanda, Saira Banu, Babita etc). She was beautiful and a pleasure to watch. Her movies had great songs too. And although she wasn’t in the league of great actresses like Nutan/Waheeda/Meena but she was a decent actress.

Hmm that’s an interesting point anya and SSY (OG)
I guess it’s about age as well
‘adolescent boys’ sometimes see assets more than the person behind them !!
Slowly they grow out of this fixation (only to an extent)
For eg –as of now–I feel I’ve somewhat grown out of it (but not sure really when it changes) πŸ™‚
Ps: don’t think it is much less in the west–or else pam anderson, abi tit-mus and Kim kardashian wouldve been ‘job’less
Ps2: we will continue this interesting topic later with u, OG & anya-(during the spoof making since u 2 are lead heroines)—
Need to take a nap now zzzz As per my mental coach anya
          ( btw any of u 2 comin) oops sorry … πŸ˜‰

        • agree on everything about sadhna. i have always had a soft spot for her and mumtaz, enjoyed watching them more than the more successful actresses of that time.

        • Saira had rich look and she had almost perfect features. She was different from syrupy heroines. Sadhna was divine.

        • sadhna’s looks were kind of ethereal, she stood out compared to her peers’ more traditional indian good looks (like waheeda). that’s why she made the best ghost/spirit, there was something otherworldly about her

          Thanx Anya–
‘lag ja gale’ is one of my alltime favorite Bollywood tracks- had forgotten about this song
Lata is at her best & the eerie-ish melancholic tinge is a bit seething -great song πŸ™‚
