Right. Also, 3 weeks before this, Kick will release and then its entertainment just one week before. Though, there are no competition until Bang Bang on 2nd Oct other than Daawat-e-ishq which is still no established actor’s movie. No one cares about Mardaani.
also while Surya made it somewhat watchable the sequel was quite poor compared to the original which itself was hardly the best example of its genre! Unfortunately (and as Qalandar pointed out the other day) Surya has dumbed down completely to remain an important star. It’s a bit to see him become a refined version of Vijay when he’s capable of so much more as an actor. He’s avoided the Maddy mistakes but by going down this route. He’s going to have no legacy as an actor if he keeps this up. And he’s probably reached the point of no return.
^Really? From Rohit Shetty? I just thought that the change between Singham and Singham 2 will be the same as the change between Dabangg and its sequel. So basically nothing!
Shetty is fine elsewhere but in Singham they made some changes to the original all that I found disturbing as well. The climax for instance. Here judging by the posters there looks to be more of that, probably with a terrorism angle. In any case I don’t much care much for films where the police is worshipped. Because this is often a way of peddling soft fascism. Plus in such films the police is often presented as an extra-judicial institution that can be trusted on the whole. Given the record of police excesses at every point in Indian history it is a deeply unfortunate (and harshly ironic) claim. And one might add without the mediation of the Vikram kind of persona in Saamy where such a character could never be confused with this program (not surprisingly the film too turns out to be rather different). Surya himself for certain reasons never seems as ‘scary’ (if at all) doing this sort of stuff. But Devgan’s persona is a bit too uncomfortable (for me) in these outings. Put differently if I were in a lockup I’d any day take my chances with Surya than Devgan!
Hmm okay yeah I see what you’re saying and in that sense I think you will probably be disturbed here. Also I’m pretty sure that they got the August 15 release date for reasons more than just that it is a holiday. #Gaddar2?
Saw at the bottom of the poster that the music is by Jeet Ganguly, Ankit Tiwari, and Meet Bros Anjaan. Rohit Shetty’s movies have never had particularly good or memorable music, but this one seems like it could have a good soundtrack- if there is a Bodyguard like title song and something even close to Galliyan/Sun Raha Hai then I think it can have a 25+ opening day.

Southern formula is not so popular anymore, and posters look tacky, nothing new or exciting here. It will have same BG score.

This might not do that well .. any idea how original Singhma-2 fared and how was it content wise ? Is this straight remake of Singham-2 ?

It was a blockbuster by most counts. The opening was outstanding, follow-through pretty good.

This is not a remake of Singham 2. Singham 2 was the biggest blockbuster in Tamil last year.

yeah from the stills it didn’t seem like a remake but I thought I was probably wrong.
