  4. Super 30 And The Lion King Sustain Well
    Friday 09 August 2019 12.15 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

The Lion King held up well in its third week though the hold was not as strong as the second week. The drop in the third week was 63% while in the second week the drop was just 45%. The third week collections are 16 crore nett and the total collections are 141.75 crore nett after three weeks.

The film is on target for 150 crore nett plus but will probably need some screen scpace when the new films come on Thursday as its unlikely to reach 150 crore nett by the end of the fourth week. The collections of The Lion King till date are as follows.

    Week One – 80,94,00,000

    Week Two- 44,59,00,000

    Week Three – 16,25,00,000 apprx

    TOTAL – 1,41,78,00,000 aprrx

Super 30 has had a good sustained run for four weeks as it collected 9.50 crore nett in its fourth week. This enabled the film to cross the 140 crore nett mark. Super 30 should be able to reach the 145 crore nett mark though 150 crore nett is probably out of reach. The Hindi markets have got a longer run due to cheaper ticket rates due to tax exemptions. The film has crossed 6 crore nett in Bihar which is a strong number for this type of film. It has crossed Total Dhamaal in the circuit. The collections of Super 30 till date are as follows.

    Week One – 75,58,00,000

    Week Two – 37,85,00,000

    Week Three – 17,96,00,000

    Week Four – 9,50,00,000 apprx

    TOTAL – 1,40,89,00,000 apprx

  5. Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund may not be able to keep its September 20 date with the audience, but the film’s team is hard at work, inching towards a new deadline. Even as the makers of the Nagraj Manjule-directed venture are eyeing a November weekend for release, the immediate plan is to release the trailer or music of the sports drama on October 11, as a tribute to the megastar who turns 77.

Savita Raj Hiremath, who is producing the film along with Bhushan Kumar, Manjule and Raj Hiremath, tells midday, “We are planning to release the teaser in the first week of October. We might also release the official trailer or launch the music on Bachchan sir’s birthday.”

The drama — based on the life of professor Vijay Barse, who founded the NGO Slum Soccer that works towards the upliftment of underprivileged kids through football — had gone on floors last December. Prod Hiremath on the two-month delay in release, and she attributes it to the overlapping schedules of Bachchan and Manjule.

Shook hands with SRK, he is GOD.
Groupie with Arjun Kapoor. Selfie with Malaika and Tabu.
KJo, Taran Adarsh and Rajeev Masand were there too.
Spoke to Taran for 15 minutes on my star ranking and also about Satyamshot. He couldn’t believe that I am Naveen. He said he has met few from NG and now SS. He likes my ranking but said its futuristic and that industry has resistance for superstars. But he liked my ranking approach.
He also said he follows SS and many in industry do. Couldn’t get a chance to talk to Rajeev Masand and share my loads of unhappiness on the way he reviews.

Super Deluxe walked away with best Indian films.
    Tabu best actress for Andhadhun.
    Sriram raghavan for Andhadhun.

    etc.

And what exactly is futuristic about Naveen’s ranking apart from sci-fi projections of great Akshay Kumar ?

Btw, does Aamir Khan follow satyamshot?

      • I think he meant that once someone becomes a super star, his stardom doesn’t change. Industry has resistance to change the equation. So a superstar will remain BIG despite flops and can enjoy top ranking for long. Simply put, a new superstar on the door needs to wait more.
Aamir checks SS. I know this via a common friend.

        • That makes sense. A couple of hits and flops dont change public perception as much as your rankings.

Is your friend really a friend of Aamir? Not disbelieving it, but many boasts a lot about knowing celebrities first hand.

        • I understand all this.
My ranking however is more like ICC Test ranking – It is based on performance and activity. The more you play and win , the more you grow. It may not be perfect or adhere to popular sentiments. I try to be consistent. It’s drawback is that It is biased towards recent performances.

Many are confused as to how January’s release, Uri: The Surgical Strike, was awarded Best Director and other awards at 2018’s National Film Awards. Here’s how.

The criteria for any film to enter the race for National Film Awards, it is supposed to have earned its certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification from Janurary 1 of that year to December 31 of that year. Luckily, Uri got its certificate on December 31, 2018, therefore making it eligible for the awards this year itself.

  19. TIRUPATI: Two US-based NRI entrepreneurs have made a princely donation of Rs. 14 crores to the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at nearby Tirumala today, a temple official said.
The devotees, who are friends and wished to remain anonymous, made the offering on the auspicious day of Goddess Sri Varalakshmi Vratham festival, the official told news agency PTI.

After offering prayers with their family members at the cash-rich hill shrine, they handed over a demand draft for Rs. 14 crore to AV Dharma Reddy, the Special Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), that governs the over 2,000 year old temple, the temple official told PTI.

The devotees requested the temple officials to use the funds for different TTD-run public welfare trusts. This is the second straight year the two have made a similar offering.

In July last year, they had donated Rs. 13.5 crore to the shrine with a request to use it for different TTD trusts, the official added.

    excerpts

Unlike the original Pink, this movie starts with a Rock song which talks about how women need to step up and talk about their rights. The next thing we see a blooded guy is helped by his friends as they move him to the hospital. Meera (Shraddha Srinath), Famitha (Abhirami Venkatachalam) and Andrea (Andrea Tariang), in a confused state reach their home and it’s revealed that one of them had hit that ‘blooded’ guy with a bottle.

Sircar’s Pink was known for its air-tight pace and no-mercy editing but this one just elongates for no solid reason. Excluding that, the movie still disturbs and makes you think which is a great thing given we already know the story (those who’ve seen Pink). The courtroom tension still has a similar impact, and a lot of its credit goes to the original script as well.

Ajith Kumar lives up to the enormous standard set by Amitabh Bachchan in Pink. He proves to be a perfect fit and adapts the mannerisms of the characters very well. Loved the way how he just toughened the ‘baritone’ in the ‘No Means No’ portion.

Shraddha Srinath, for some weird reason, looked like a mashup of Taapsee Pannu and Sonakshi Sinha. Jokes apart, she is brilliant as Meera. She nails the ’emotional outburst’ sequence, and for that scene, it was like watching an altogether new movie. Andrea Tariang was equally good as she was in the original one. Here too, she has underplayed her character beautifully.

  24. Jabariya Jodi had a poor opening day collecting 2.75 crore nett apprx. The growth in the evening was hardly there as the numbers should have at least gone over 3 crore nett considering the morning numbers with just normal first day evening growth.

The Saturday numbers should be still up for the film but its unlikely to be the type of growth that means a sustained run, the numbers of the film are lower than films like The Accidental Prime Minister and Thackeray and in the same range as dud film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Jabariya Jodi has a holiday on Monday for Bakrid which should keep the collections steady on Monday but that hardly matters at these levels unless Saturday doubles up which is unlikely.

John Abraham is of the opinion that the Hindi film industry is not a secular place. “Who told you that the industry is secular? The industry is not 100 per cent secular. It’s polarized. This is a fact of life,” John quipped, when asked if the industry was a fair playing ground, with rampant divisive mood brewing all around. John was at an event to promote his upcoming flick “Batla House” in Mumbai when he expressed the opinion. “The problem is that the world is polarized. There is a dialogue in my film, ‘It is not that a particular community is suffering, the entire world is suffering’. Look at (Donald) Trump, look at Brexit, look at Boris Johnson – the world is polarized today. You are living in this world, so, you have to deal with it. At the same time, I feel this is the best country and the best industry,” he said. Watch the video for more details.

Don’t remember when was the last time families drove in such huge numbers in theatres. That kind of phenomena hasn’t been seen a quarter of a century later!

Its box office success story is particularly interesting on its own. A film needs to be made on its making.

    • For me it was the film that brought back audience from pirated video cassette viewing to Cinema,
The movie which single handedly adopted dolby digital in their theatre which was one of the pre condition by Rajshri films for every exhibitors
The movie which asked every exhibitor (mostly single screen then) to make sure family audience feel welcomed, comfortable and secure
The movie which brought in the importance of marriage system and made marriage functions more fun, innovative and filmy
The movie that showcased Madhuri like never before
The movie…i can go on and on. (sigh)

and sooraj himself could not recreate that magic ever again just like sippy could not do a sholay ever again! just like ashu could not do a lagaan again! masterpieces are made once in a while only…….after HAHK, Rajshri has given only one decent film – Vivaah….the rest were mediocre products..

    Next what challenge?

    Like

    • Not a fair attempt..someone is holding the bottle…when a bottle is standing by itself, you need skill to unscrew the bottle..

Having said that, how many people remember the cause of ice bucket challenge? Gen X or Y whatever you want to call there is strong propensity of show-off. if there is accident, people are more interested in making video than helping victim.

      • Agree. After Statham, Only Akshay Kumar did with no one holding. Everyone from Tiger to unknowns posting their videos has someone holding the bottle. You cannot see it but the stability of the bottle makes it obvious. 🙂

Aditya decided he would one day make a war film as inspiring as Lakshya. “What better compliment than to have the young and old recite its dialogue ‘How’s the josh?’ Their josh gives me the josh to make movies which impact and influence the audience in a positive way. I am glad Uri had this kind of an impact.”

  47. Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal Set To Take A Very Good Start, Emerge Bigger Than The Three K’s – Kalank, Kesari And Kabir Singh
    Box Office | TrendingUpdated:August 12, 2019 10:47 IST
    Authors: Joginder Tuteja

The D-day is just round the corner. Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal releases this Friday and the buzz so far around the film is quite good. In fact, there has been an air of positivity around the film ever since it was announced and now that the second trailer has worked big time as well, there is good curiosity amongst audiences to check out what it has to offer.

All of this means that this Jagan Shakti directed film is all set to take a very good start at the box office. This year, majority of deserving films have opened well in theaters and brought in the kind of numbers that go with the merits. While Salman Khan’s Bharat leads from the top owing to its Eid arrival and a solo release, there are also biggies like Kalank, Kesari and Kabir Singh which have all opened over 20 crores mark.

Now if the buzz and hype surrounding Mission Mangal is any indication, the film is set to go past each of these K-named films at the least!

What is working quite well in favor of the film is the unique humor factor which is characteristic to the kind of cinema that Balki is known for. Of course, the PadMan director is only producing the film here but his creative inputs could well have come in handy for director Jagan Shakti who is making his debut in Bollywood with this biggie. Moreover, the slice of life look and feel of the film, despite the core theme centered on ‘Mission Mars’ has fetched attention as well.

Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal Set To Take A Very Good Start, Emerge Bigger Than The Three K’s – Kalank, Kesari And Kabir Singh
After all, who would have thought that ‘home science’ principles would come in handy for a mission as critical as that? However, it is the kind of conviction with which Vidya Balan and team bring to fore these points that makes Mission Mangal a film that finds itself on the top of the list when it comes to the visibility factor.

All of this pretty much translates into the fact that barring Bharat, which would continue to lead from the top till the time Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer War arrives, opening day records of all other films would be history once Fox Star Studios backed Mission Mangal hits the screens. As for the weekend records in the offering then well, it would all boil down to the merits that Mission Mangal, which also features Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Sharman Joshi, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen in key roles, carries in its narrative.
