  6. Chhichhore Is Super Strong on Weekdays
    Friday 14 September 2019 11.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Chhichhore recorded very good first week numbers of around 67 crore nett as it came into its own over the weekdays. The weekend performance of the film was decent but the weekdays were extraordinary as all the weekdays held at higher levels than the first day. The lowest collection for the film over the first seven days came on day one..

The Thursday collections were helped as it was last day of Ganpati so all films went up across Mumbai circuit. the film has collected in seven days what Badhaai Ho collected in its extended eight day first week. The film is a SUPER HIT film as is sure to sustain well on its second Friday even with the release of Dream Girl which will have a similar target audience of the multiplexes in the top 15-20 cities. The film is established and it just remains to be seen how well the film sustains on the second Friday. The collections of Chhichhore over the first week are as follows.

    Friday – 7,00,00,000 apprx

    Saturday 12,00,00,000 apprx

    Sunday – 16,00,00,000 apprx

    Monday – 7,75,00,000 apprx

    Tuesday – 9,75,00,000 apprx

    Wednesday – 7,00,00,000 apprx

    Thursday – 7,25,00,000 apprx

    TOTAL – 66,75,00,000 apprx

    • Thanks Jay. I am planning a weekend bash. The wait for Akshay was long (few very good movies ike 2point0 and Kesari should have touched it, imo and considering the WoM). But, I think this (200 Cr) might be a new normal for Akshay. So all is well for Akki fans.

Next target 250 Cr. Unlike Salman and Aamir, who raced past 300 Cr long time back, Akshay’s growth is in small steps one milestone at a time. More laboured. Hence the result makes it sweet and hard earned.

  9. Box Office Updates: Both releases start slow, DREAM GIRL at 15%, SECTION 375 at 10%
By Bollywood Hungama News Network, Sep 13, 2019 – 12:59 pm IST

After much talk we finally see the release of the unconventional film DREAM GIRL. Alongside this Ayushmann Khurrana starrer we also see the release of the Akshaye Khanna – Richa Chadda starrer SECTION 375. But which of these two films will take the lead at the box office is the question.

Reports suggest that both new releases viz. DREAM GIRL and SECTION 375 have taken off on a slow note. While DREAM GIRL has recorded an occupancy rate of 15%, SECTION 375 features a lower occupancy rate of 10%. However, both new releases have received positive reviews across the board and are bound to pick up over evening and night shows. On the other hand last week’s release CHHICHHORE still continues to hold strong and has emerged as the audiences’ first choice in theatres.

On the whole, CHHICHHORE is expected to take the number 1 slot this weekend, and is likely to see collections in the double digit range. Similarly DREAM GIRL too is expected to see a double digit opening day collections figure while SECTION 375 is likely to see collections on Day 1 hovering around the Rs. 2 cr mark.

    • These are important collections. Indian box office has found its middle class finally – the engine of the box office.
The 100cr club is pretty meaningless. 150Cr is a better target for medium sized films to be a hit and big films to flop at.

  12. Chhichhore Super Strong – Dream Girl Good First Day
    Friday 13 September 2019 23.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Chhichhore is super strong on day eight as it collects around 5 crore nett which is excellent and the drop is hardly 30% from Thursday which got a little boost from being the last day of Ganpati. This film is heading for a huge run as the release of Dream Girl has hardly affected the film even though Dream Girl has done very well.

There will not be this sort of competition over the next two weeks which means it will run steady until the release of War in early October. The collections of the film are 72 crore nett apprx till date and there will be huge growth on Saturday and Sunday.

Dream Girl has done very well at the box office on day one collecting in the 9.50 crore nett range which is easily the highest opening day for an Ayushmann Khuran starrer. the collections are around 40% better then Chhichore released last week and 25% better than Luka Chuppi which was a film in a similar sort of zone.

The film has also beaten the likes of Uri – The Surgical Strike and De De Pyaar De on the first day and both were bigger films especially the latter. The collections are best in Delhi / NCR though Mumbai / Gujarat could ahve doen better. It was the same last week with Chhichhore which was also best in Delhi NCR but this film far exceeds Chhichhore in the Northern markets.

  17. Chhichhore was rock steady on its second Friday despite competition from Dream Girl as it collected 5.25 crore nett and took its total to 72 crore nett. The drop in under 30% from the previous day and the film is just 25% down from the first day..

The film started with decent collections in Delhi / UP only but is excellent in both Delhi / UP and Mumbai now. There will be a huge growth for the film on Saturday and Sunday and it should clear the 100 crore nett mark by the end of the week if this expected growth comes. The film is course to beat the 119 crore nett of M.S. Dhoni – The Untod Story which is the top grosser for Sushant Rajput but the target will be to beat the GROSS numbers of that film which was 157 crore. The collections of Chhichhore till date are as follows.

    Friday – 7,00,00,000 apprx

    Saturday 12,00,00,000 apprx

    Sunday – 16,00,00,000 apprx

  18. Dream Girl Has A Good Opening Day

Dream Girl had a good opening day of 9.50 crore nett as it scored excellent numbers in Delhi / UP and East Punjab. The former was 2.55 crore nett while the latter was 1.13 crore nett. Mumbai has done well also with 2.75 crore though there is under performance against Delhi / UP. South markets were low for the film but Mysore should show huge growth today.

The first day number is good enough to make the film a success as the weekend numbers are sure to come out more than good enough against the cost of the film. The growth will be there for the film and the Gujarat area which leads for comedies can pick up big as was low on day one probably due to the film not having big stars.

The film is the biggest opening among the newer lot of which three can be called mini stars. Karthik Aryan opened 7.76 crore nett with Luka Chuppi, Vicky Kaushal was 8.49 crore nett and now Ayushmann Khurana has topped that with 9.50 crore nett apprx. All three films are this year so same GST rates and similar GROSS figures give or take 1-2% where the film is doing higher ratios where there is service tax and state levy tax.

The target for these three will be double digit openings which can put them on the level of the likes of John Abraham and Shahid Kapoor and if that can be done then the real test comes to compete with the stars and superstars.

  21. Dream Girl Is A Huge Hit

    Saturday 14 September 2019 14.30 IST

Dream Girl is a huge HIT as collections go into overdrive on Saturday. The film is looking at a jump of 60-70% or maybe even more as evenings will be strong. The film is pretty much sure to cross the 15 crore nett mark which is excellent for this film and will take it to a huge weekend.

Mumbai and Mysore have seen extraordinary growth especially Mysore which looks like more than doubling up from the first day. The film is fantastic in North as both Delhi / UP and East Punjab are showing strong growth from very good opening numbers. This area will outperform for the film even though UP single screens as not that good.

The growth of the film on Saturday is pretty much similar to last weeks Chhichhore but at higher levels, that film started at around 7 crore nett while Dream Girl started at the 9.50 crore nett level. Chhichhore is also continung its big run and growth will be similar to Dream Girl but its coming on the second Saturday for that film which is always more likely to happen.

The box office has been on a good run with Mission Mangal, Batla House, Saaho (Hindi), Chhichhore and now Dream Girl over the last month but the real test is in October with War as can the footfalls happen to put up really big numbers.

  22. A trade source says, “Salman’s Eid release will be neither a sequel and nor a remake of any movie. While Bharat producers Atul Agnihotri (Salman’s brother-in-law) and Nikhil Namit own the remake rights of the South Korean flick, Veteran, that won’t be made next year. Salman has come upon a completely original script which is a pure masala entertainer and he will be producing it with them. The story is apparently based in North India and character is something like Radhe which he had played in Tere Naam – fun, eccentric, large-hearted, is thoroughly lovable but it is not a sequel to Tere Naam. There is an undercurrent of social issues running through the story. Currently, the final draft of the script is taking place (with Salman’s inputs) and once it is complete, casting will begin. Salman plans to announce the movie, only after he begins shooting for it, which will be in the next couple of months. Buzz is that Salman may even play a double role in it and his fans and everybody will fall in love with the storyline and his characters.”

  23. There is no slowdown of economy. Every film is becoming a huge hit on the first day itself! People are watching movies in droves as if there is no tomorrow. Where is this money coming from? Both multiplex and single screen audience are spurging money on movies, samosas, popcorn and soft drinks besides spending money on transportation day after day, week after week and that too with family and friends. All are going on vacations and foreign travel is not limited to filmstars and industrialists. And there is a surge in online spending on clothes and other items.
Indian film industry negates all the slowdown talk.

Dream Girl And Chhichhore In Overdrive On Saturday.
    Sunday 15 September 2019 00.30 IST

Dream Girl has seen fantastic growth of around 70% to collect 16 crore nett apprx on day two. The film has now collected around 25.50 crore nett two days and could go to 45 crore nett in the first weekend The growth in Mumbai city is around 100% and its the same story in Mysore though places like Gujarat / Saurashtra and Maharashtra cities outside Mumbai and Pune could have grown more as they were low on day one.

The growth on Saturday is similar to Chhichhore last week though at a higher level which makes it the highest growth on Saturday this year for a film to come on over 2000 screens. Dream Girl was released on 2600 screens compared to the 2100 of Chhichhore.

Chhichhore is outstanding as its growth is even better than Dream Girl as it looks like collecting around 9.50 crore nett which is around 75%. The collections of this film in Gujarat / Saurashtra on the second Saturday and better than Dream Girl on the first Saturday and they did not even start well here. The film is recording better collections in the second weekend in this circuit.

Chhicchore is cruising to 100 crore probably within 14 days and there will plenty of gas left in the tank after that. It would be tough but it would not surprise even if it goes to 150 crore nett as films on these sort of runs always hold up better each week than it is expected.

The film is giving good competition to the new release Dream Girl and is even collecting higher than that film in a couple of places. The film now stands at 81.50 crore nett in nine days and it will clear the business of films like De De Pyaar De, Manikarnika – Queen Of Jhansi, Luka Chuppi, Batla House and Badla in just ten days.

It is the best sustaining film of the year after Uri – The Surgical Strike and Kabir Singh and it has chances of putting up a 40 crore nett second week which would have been a decent number for this film in the first week. The lifetime will probably be determined by the business next Friday but it should go on and beat the likes of Stree, Raazi and Badhaai Ho.

  36. Dream Girl And Chhichhore Sunday Estimates
    Sunday 15 September 2019 23.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Dream Girl had decent growth on Sunday as it collected around 18 crore nett for a weekend of a little over 43 crore nett. The film had huge growth on Saturday so there is always a limit how much it can go further as it has a low ratio of business from smaller centres which show huge growth on Sunday.

The weekend of Chhichhore last week was 35 crore nett apprx so this film has surpassed that film by a huge margin but it will be an interesting race over the next few weeks as to which film comes out with higher collections. Its a big lead for Dream Girl but Chhichhore really started to perform from Monday onward. Now it will be interesting to see where the Dream Girl Monday comes out and a good hold is important if it is to come out a big HIT like Chhichhore despite the excellent weekend numbers.

Chhichhore is a SUPER HIT film as it records double digit numbers on its second Sunday for a second weekend of 24 crore nett plus. The film is super strong showing a drop of just 30% from last weekend. The film has collected around 90 crore nett in ten days.

The film is beating Dream Girl in Gujarat / Saurashtra despite it being the second weekend of this film compared to the first weekend of Dream Girl

Someone should think of making Veerapandia Kattabomman or Kannagi Kovalan as pan India films if RRR succeeds to entice the entire nation,

    • Beyond Baahubali

It was nearly 14 years ago that SS Rajamouli entered the Telugu film industry when he directed the low budget musical-drama Student No.1. As luck would have it, the film fared pretty well at the box office, helping him kick start his career in the best way possible.

However, not one to rest on his laurels, the filmmaker soon consolidated his standing in the industry even further courtesy a host of entertaining yet relatable directorial ventures.

Eega: Touted as a fantasy drama, Eega focused on a young man who is reincarnated as a fly shortly after being killed by a scheming womanizer. Boasting of some lifting music from MM Keeravani, the movie was screened at the prestigious Cannes Film festival in 2013 where it was praised by all and sundry. Interestingly, the film’s success helped Kannada superstar Sudeep firm footing in the Telugu industry as well.

Vikramarkudu: Featuring none other than Telugu cinema’s resident Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja in the lead, this action-drama is perhaps best remembered for its gripping fight sequences as well as lively performances. Also featuring Anushka Shetty and Vineet Singh in important roles, the film was screened at the International Film Festival of India. Released in 2006, it was later remade in Hindi (Rowdy Rathore), Tamil (Siruthai), Bengali (Bikram Singha) and Kannada (Veera Madakari).

Sye: Serving as strong proof of SS Rajamouli’s uncanny ability to come up with simple yet unconventional storylines, Sye focused on the often overlooked sport of Rugby. Boasting of quite a few intense on showdowns, the film was a runaway hit at the box office. Shot in Telugu, it was later on dubbed into Hindi and Malayalam.

Magadheera: Revolving around the intriguing phenomena of reincarnation, Magadheera became an instant hit with movie buffs courtesy its good production values and sincere performances. Released in 2009, the film proved to be a major commercial success and helped actor Ram Charan find firm footing in the industry. Interestingly, Magadheera was later on remade in Bengali as Yoddha: The Warrior.

The story was very well researched and the turning point of our PM’s life, as a young man, really intrigued me. I felt that it’s a story that is unheard of and needs to be told”.
Director Ssanjay Tripaathy is certain that this film will touch a chord with everyone. He said, “For me, it’s a human interest story about the self-discovery of a person who went on to become such a strong leader of our country.”

  48. Just watched Gully Boy on Amazon. Absolute finesse. Barring a screenplay that could have been tighter & gripping in parts, a near flawless film in almost all aspects. Easily Zoya’s best thus far surpassing Luck By Chance and Znmd (the pointless DDD not withstanding). 4/5

    • Is Boi diminishing Chhichhore numbers too? Their constant ranting in favor of Saaho & constant downgrading of Hindi films makes me wonder whether they too are happy to join the mindless Bollywood bashing brigade (initialized by southern movie fans and makers who have been at it for over 3 decades now, only going into overdrive post social media wherein 4 different industries from the south are conviniently clubbed together to take on Bollywood). Good & bad films are made all over the world, anywhere & everywhere irrespective of language, genre, budget etc. If Bahubali doing what it did in the Hindi markets is a huge feat (which it no doubt is the Sholay of the 21st century) then so is Dangal doing what it did in China (a fact ignored by Boi) or SS going on to become the 4th highest worldwide grosser. 2.0’s disastrous China run & the fact that a 500 Cr multilingual production with superstars from 2 different industries fails to cross even 700 Cr worldwide does not find a mention in Boi’s land.

Saaho (Hindi) has had a big drop in the third week with collections heading for a 3.50 crore nett week but overall the collections are very good and it is going going to finish up with business in the range of Kesari and Total Dhamaal. The updated collections of the film are below and they are a little higher than published before as the collections from the Hindi version in the South are better than estimated before.

The film has crossed 4 crore nett in Mysore for the Hindi version as the Hindi version gave the Telugu version a run for its money in the bigger Bangalore multiplexes. Nizam / Andhra has crossed 6 crore nett for Hindi version including Marathawada which is excellent considering its a Telugu market. Tamil Nadu / Kerala has done around 1 crore nett in Hindi. The South has actually added 11 crore nett plus in Hindi which is huge as the regional versions dominated in these markets.

The Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions finished with 2.62 crore nett in Hindi markets with Telugu collecting 2.56 crore nett, the Tamil version collecting 5.75 lakh and the Malayalam version having negligable collections. The collections of Saaho (Hindi) till date are as follows.
