  1. Tiger is impressive here. A true action star. Hopefully this will help him to join the big league. Read somewhere that he is directing the stunts and action sequences in Baaghi 3 by himself.

Pretty cool. Has Saaho vibes, though

They seem a hoot together, Hritik and Tiger

  3. this looks big from the teaser…Title also works though looks like the war is only between the two…Sort of good trashy pulpy fun

  6. Too much noise in trailer and feels like rehash of Dhoom series

  7. I thought the teaser was much better. Anyway this doesn’t look as bad as the fiasco with the Bhojpuri Jack Sparrow last year.

  8. I like the trailer. Dhoom’s slow-motion action scenes were pathetic. The action scenes and stunts are looking much better here. I hope the screenplay is tight enough and that the plot isn’t too silly (silly it was in Bang Bang and parts of D3). If there is a decent enough plot and the pace rarely slows down, this can be a big winner.

This looks much better than the crapfest TOH – however, YRF has the habit of delivering below-par products now 😉 but this will sail thru riding on HR-Tiger – both are in top form here….

I think there is a decent plot in the film. A sure hit film based on current mood of the nation that is war hysteria. Everything is there Pak, Afgan, nationalism.

  11. Loved it. The trailer is kicka$$. Tiger’s casting is an ace here. This genre is his forte. Hrithik seems to be talking like his super30 character. 😀
    Overall great cut.

  13. Saaho and War look like twins. If Saaho does well, War can also.
While Saaho’s hero will not have the same connectivity with north Indian audience the way hritik and tiger will have. At the end of it Prabhas looks like too teluguish and if he can pull it off, salute to him!
Baahubali comparison wont do as it was a period drama. The real test is modern drama.
Toh was sabotaged. Hopefully War wont be sabotaged.

  14. The genre is similar and that’s it. Of course there are going to be comparisons between the action scenes. But not every action film is similar. There may be different themes, plots and sub-plots which will make these very different films from each other, except for the genre.

As for War, I am not expecting anything at the level of John Woo’s Face Off. That will be too much to expect in terms of substance from a YRF/Sid Anand film.

But if the plot is half decent and even minimal like in the Fast & Furious series, then it may turn out to be a winner. That’s still asking a lot from a Bollywood action film, mind you. When you watch Bang Bang or, even worse, TOH, then these were quite simply terrible.

If War is anything like these, then it deserves to be trashed.

Blockbuster material, but I can already find a loophole from the trailer: clichéd and lazily written storyline
The meatier part seems to go to Hritik Roshan. While tiger will find flavour with the masses, the rave reviews will be reserved for Hrithik’s histrionic abilities

  16. Give Ek tha Tiger vibes. An agent assumed to have gone rogue, while on a secret mission. Hopefully, we got some twists here. Hrithik seems to continue his Adhyapak avatar 😀

  17. So so trailer. Both look great and it’s pretty easy to do something better than TOH. This feels like YRF making a Dhoom film without calling it Dhoom but it’s missing that tongue and cheek playing between Abhishek and Uday.

  18. DHOOM 4!! Best part is that Hrithik’s scenes will be unmissable to wtach on big screen and if he’s not screen, Tiger is also excellent in action sequences. Win-win for audience. Sureshot Hit unless director messes up like Bang Bang (which was a snooze-fest).

  19. From the trailer, Hrithik probably edges it. The action scene with the plane is an interesting one since there haven’t been too many like these in Hindi films.

But I also saw Sid Anand completely mess up the action scenes in Bang Bang. It was pathetic while the teaser seemed promising.

Tiger remains the dark horse here and he may end up being the underdog who is the big winner in the end.

  22. I was watching a poster of the film and the title simply does not seem right. There was a close up of the 2 guys and 2 cars racing each other below and the title ‘WAR’ beside. The title seems OTT and a bit presumptuous.

Some of the earlier films from JP Dutta or Anil Sharma or the recent Uri could have had War as title and it would not have been out of place or inappropriate.

  25. Only in Bollywood can we see a dance face-off between 2 deadly rivals in an action film called ‘War’. Imagine Nicholas Cage and Travolta (and the latter is a dance icon) competitively dancing in Face Off! Or even worse imagine Stallone and Banderas in a dance face off in Assassins!!

It does seem YRF are one again using all the gimmicks possible to attract the audience. Tiger and Hrithik are great at stunts. Ok, let them fight it out there. They are great dancers. Ok, let’s squeeze in a dance sequence of them together even it may risk to be against the logic of the plot.

It’s the kind of thinking that occasionally enables them to make money spinners but also prevents from making great movies.

    • Even in dance face-off it has not matched the magic we saw with Madhuri-Karishma in Dil to pagal hai. Here Tiger is dancing like the Hrithik of 2000s and Hrithik is dancing like Govinda of 90s.

Of course Govinda’s style will get more seeties anyday.

  30. Don’t know if anyone’s noticed, but with Super 30 & now whatever we have seen him dance and deliver dialogues in the War promos, HR seems to have finally gotten rid of the germ of trying desperately to deliver an “award winning performance” like her did with his messed up acts in Kites, Guzaarish, Agneepath & Krrish 3 and instead appears much more relaxed and comfortable in being himself to the extent of even being a cool dude. In both S30 as well as the promo here he’s acting, behaving and performing naturally without any desperate attempts that can lead to hamming it up. He’s playing to the gallery just like he did with KNPH, D2, Lakshya and JA which is the way we always wanted to watch him on celluloid. Even his dance moves in Ghungroo, Jai Jai Shivshankar or even the Basanti Song seem a lot more relaxed & eased out (more like his Ek Pal Ka Jeena & Main Aisa Kyun Hoon days) than the stiff “desperately attempting to impress” moves in Senorita or the couple of songs in K3.

    • More than Super30, it is a genre like WAR which is Hrithik’s home run. He is made to do movies like this. Unfortunately you do not have great directors in this genre. But now with SFX this genre is once again attractive. If this has a decent storyline…War will be a blockbuster.

      • Exactly what i meant. S30 was not his home genre and yet he seemed as easy going and comfortable like its home. Something he failed to establish during his stiff over the top acts in Guzaarish, MJD, Agneepath & even Znmd in some small parts.

    • Hrithik, whose last Bollywood outing was with the film Super 30, said he is a big fan of action entertainers. “I have been looking for doing these kind of films ever since I did Dhoom 2. Dhoom 2, Bang Bang and now War this the genre I am most attracted to and I am aiming to do these films. But I don’t get such movies much, I don’t why. When I got ‘War’ I got very excited,” he said.

      • Exactly – None of the best directors like Hirani or Bhansali does this genre. I think they cannot.
Those who try lack similar grip over the story. These are high budget with direct competition from hollywood genre. Risk is very high.

Overseas setup like a Saaho or Bang Bang gets disconnected from masses.
Desi setup like 2point0 makes it look less appealing to a certain section.

So most resort to a safer Dabangg or Bachchan Pandey.

        • There have been very few good action films from Bollywood during the 20 years or so. I think there have been a few decent Southern films remakes here and there at best and some other films trying to copy the the Southern and Hollywood formulas without much success, except for the odd Dabangg or Dhoom.

I do think it’s a pity a director like Rajkumar Santoshi isn’t doing much work these days. He is so good at these hard core action dramas with the required emotional quotient. There is hardly any Bollywood director who can deliver a Khakee, a Ghayal or Ghatak right now.
