  1. So much for Ott mediums that we got 2 kaudi ke 3rd rate movies & shows release week after week with hardly any interest, viewership or damn! Nothing barring Gulaabo Sitabo & Shakuntala Devi has been worth it these 6 months (definitely not Pataal Lok kinda horst shit). I’m sure with Bond 25, WW84, F&F etc lined up for the next year, even the big screen’s gonna be taken over by Hollywood just like Netflix India has been taken over by robust content like Fauda (Family Man’s the only exception).

  3. I thought I would skip the labor day weekend since it was the first week of re-opening theaters in the DMV area so that I can avoid crowds; there is a stadium seating theater down here which is pretty far but I could make that exception for TENET. Now it’s gone in 1 week! This is terrible. I should have to make-do in whatever theaters are left. I shouldn’t have waited…

    • Of whatever I’ve read its perhaps Nolan’s weakest. However such is the flair of the film maker that even few of his weaker one’s (Interstellar, TDKR) are worth watching on the big screen IMAX, esp for the live action shots, real locations and edge of seat sound mixing. Tenet doesn’t have the Hans Zimmer stamp though. Many complaints of the background score being too loud, muting the dialogues in this convoluted film. For now though, I’d love to see Nolan make one of his toned down relatively linear films like Memento, Following or The Prestige.

    • Probably better to watch it home so you can go back/forth and watch it twice to actually get the movie.

        • Why do you watch it on 14 inch laptop?

Most in USA now has at minimum 42″ inch HDTV.
Even in India most has good size LCD TV now.

        • Well even my 40 inch television comes a crop against the 72×53 ft screen that Nolan “exclusively” shoots his live action films for with the 70mm IMAX camera. So yeah unless absolutely option-less, in my opinion even attempting to watch an IMAX exclusive on a 40 or 50 inch LED is an insult to the art of film making & the film maker’s vision.

  5. Surprising silence by the Kashyap fanatics on this forum so far. I remember the legendary Nana Patekar being dissected left & right last year when he was falsely accused by a 3rd rate former actress whose intention was to get her 2 mins of fame. Or is it that Anurag “Sorcese” Kashyap is beyond criticism (his history of drug abuse & of course his copy paste dumbed down version of noir film making not withstanding).

  6. The statement reads: ‘My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply pained by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that a social movement as important as the #metoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination. Fictitious allegations of this nature seriously undermine the movement and seek to unconscionably trade upon the pain and trauma of actual victims of sexual harassment and abuse. My client has been advised about his rights and remedies in law and intends to pursue them to the fullest extent – Priyanka Khimani’

  8. From ‘she is a small-time actress’ to ‘you are the biggest feminist’, defence pours in for Anurag Kashyap who is accused of sexual assault: Feminists and liberals have come out to support Anurag Kashyap who is accused of sexual assault by an actress.

‘Feminist’ and women’s right champion, Taapsee Pannu, came up with a befitting reply. In an Instagram post, she declared the accused as the ‘biggest feminist’.
Ironically, Taapsee had earlier not been as kind to other men who were accused of similar charges

    @taapsee
I don’t think this #Metoo can reach any productive conclusion until we stop celebrating the accused and guilty to begin with. And embarrassment becomes even more when women themselves don’t stand by this movement and rather go against it. It could’ve been you! #NotDone

  9. Why social media isn’t really the real villain of this age
    Manu Joseph
Beware the appeal of a documentary that claims to be against what it has no qualms doing itself

The Social Dilemma is a documentary that conveys something you have heard many times, but with ominous background music. The facts in the 90-minute film take less than a minute, it seems, to narrate: Social media and email are designed to keep you hooked to your phone and away from “real world”, a superior place where people drink barley and eat sugar with real friends, or say “What’s up” to real acquaintances and look over their shoulders to see if there are more interesting people around.

The “ethicists” of the documentary inevitably tell you that if you’re not paying for media content, then you are not the customer, “you’re the product”. The way they claim your time is harvested for “advertisers”, you would think they have never heard of The New York Times or The Guardian or BBC, the revered products of their type whose golden years were funded by advertisers. Advertisers have always funded or greatly subsidized quality journalism. Now, on social media, they have a more efficient way of spending money.

  10. Bill questions the wisdom of the Academy Awards’ new diversity requirements and its effect on artistic expression.

    • Yes I saw this. This is unimaginably stupid, even by Oscar’s standards. The Academy just wants to ‘not’ be left out in times of BLM and ‘Defund the Police’. They are scared of being called out if there isn’t enough ‘diversity.’ A totally redundant process that adds zero value in actually bringing diverse talent. How about beginning with having Indians play Indians with a natural accent and not the accent that the Americans want to hear?

Did not like the movie. Not that I quite diasagree with its politics, but it kind of leaves an awkward aftertaste instead of that bittersweet charm of Lipstick Under My Burkha. The milieu of Greater Noida (quite a first for Hindi cinema) gives Titli-like vibes, where everyone is a potential threat, a predator.

It tries to say so much that it could have worked better as a TV series. Alankrita Shrivastava missed a golden chance when she had KKS in top form and dependable actors in the form of Bhumi and Vikrant Massey.

    • Greater Noida is in fact far from being as unsafe as what the Ncr is traditionally infamous for. Its easily the most developed locality with some of the best infrastructure & high standard of living at a relatively affordable price (compared to South/West Delhi). This is the level of shallow research most Bollywood film makers conduct before making their so called piece of art for the sole purpose of grabbing eyeballs. Greater Noida is not traditional Noida by any yardstick.

I like Greater Noida. Some great infrastructure and a lot of open spaces. The issue, however, with all new and upcoming societies in the whole of NCR, including GN, is that of possession. Tall promises made by builders make people pour their savings of a lifetime here. Only to get it years after the promised date or being stuck for an indefinite period.

    • I think srk is banking on an underwhelming set of films to make a comeback. Will b pretty surprised if this lineup brings him back to his former glory. Films will need to be very good if not great to succeed in the post covid world, if tenet is an indication. Stars who do films on the dozen will struggle most with their volume of mediocrity.

  14. Finally finished watching Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Thanks to Latha for recommending it. I usually dislike the Telugu hero-worshipping movies which they pass off as masala. However, I was surprised with this one – at least the first half. It took me back to the days of Desai. Allu Arjun really ‘believed’ in the movie and did a fine job. The first half is a breeze. The 2nd half takes on the route of ‘BAWARCHI’, and stretches. The first half is really a true throw-back to the old days.

Recommended, at least for the first half. It’s a breeze.

    • I couldn’t recall who had suggested it but i had watched it past Saturday too. wife and I liked it a lot.

Notice the first 5 minutes of the movie, how it grabs you right from the beginning. Agree with 2nd half but i didn’t mind it. the songs were picturized very well too but most south films does that very well anyway.

Would love to see films like Naseeb and Qurbani on big screen again.

I think Bareilly ki Barfi is a subversion of Katha. A dull Naseer replaced by a not so dull but dull Rajkumar rao, funny Farooq Sheik represented by morose Khurrana, dull Deepti represented by wild Kirti Sannon. And the morose one wins the girl instead of the good boy.
I prefer Chashme Baddoor to Katha.
