  2. Actor Riteish Deshmukh has responded to a Twitter user who interpreted his tweet about weight gain during festivals as bias against a Hindu festival. The actor has tweeted about the cost of weight loss as compared to the cost of sweets one tends to eat during a festival.

Advising people to ‘choose wisely’, Riteish shared the cost of sweets such as laddu, jalebi, kaju ki barfi and chocolate. He went on to then share the price one has to pay for losing a single kilogram of weight. “I thought I should warn you !!!!” he wrote as the caption.

    • Yes sir; we will stop our kids from enjoying lighting crackers; now we will stop them from eating sweets as well [for the greater purpose of weight-loss and health issues; yes] – for 2 festivals in a year where the men, women, and kids in a family get a time to worship and have some relief from day-to-day worries.

In the meanwhile, you and your ilk like PC and your wife please continue posting your Maldives and Spain pics in bikinis and jockeys: We shall sacrifice for you sir; we will stop lighting fire-crackers; we will ‘choose’ wisely the sweets we eat. So what if the middle-class Hindus have only these ‘escapades’ lined out for them! After all, who is as lucky or unlucky as Ranveer Singh that he and his parents could visit another country only once per year…

      • I consciously avoid many things due to awareness. No one can force me. One can just advise. Only mithai makers may ask people to eat more sweets as it is profitable for them. And so are whose livelihood depends on manufacturing and selling crackers. Rest is left to individual discretion and decision. Whether to follow fasts or not. What to eat or what not to eat. Whether to drink and smoke or not to do so. Whether to watch movies or not. Whether to vote or not.

  5. Sanjeev Kumar, born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala, remained unmarried throughout his life. However, he was time and again linked with many actors including Hema Malini and Sulakshana Pandit. While Hema married actor Dharmendra, Sulakshana remained unmarried.

In an old interview with Filmfare, Anju Mahendroo had said, “Every time he got involved with a woman he was told by those close to him, ‘Arrey yaar yeh toh tere paise ke peeche hai (she’s after your money)’. This would play on his mind. I’d say, ‘Hari, are you mad or what? Can’t you judge for yourself? This way you’ll never get married. You love the woman, even if she’s there for your money, so what?’”

He wanted to do twice the work from other folks as he has limited time. He did astonishing amount of work from 1973 to 1983 before passing in 1985 at the age of 47.

      • Blade Runner 2049 was a slow-burn master-piece. DENNIS is a FANTASTIC director, and the reason for that is he is old-school and relies more on script and writing than on technical wizardry.

PRISONERS was outstanding with a brilliant blinking-eye performance from Jake; and ARRIVAL was too good with the detailing it put forth…

Looking forward to visiting DUNE in theaters…though it depends on certain circumstances…

And SICARIO, what can one say about that? Terrific performances from Blunt, Del Toro, and Broslin, and a back-ground score so scintillating it leaves goose-bumps on your skin….

ARRIVAL, PRISONERS are not light-headed themes; In fact, I found PRISONERS way too painful to watch; what with the lead relapsing to alcoholism and showering a so-called villian with hot water….but then, I cannot deny the fact that it is a wonderful explanation and examination of the holy Bible lived through those characters..

      • This is a very poor argument, by your standards An Jo.

Firstly, you say, since the NCB is anyway hardly doing its job and going after consumers with criminal charges (which itself can qualify as a witch hunt), Aryan Khan is not a witch hunt. But the bigger point is even by the NCB’s standards, no ameer baap’s beta ever gets himself caught up in this sort of mess, only either if he’s done something really big or someone’s out to get him. Given how little evidence the NCB has and how there was BJP workers escorting the accused into the NCB office, one can’t help but feel the latter is the case here. So why would someone be out to get SRK, 1. It could be that the case is the perfect distraction from a Govt that has failed in the healthcare of its citizens, the security of its border, its international prestige, the economy and the gas price (or) 2. They want to send a message to the film industry like Dubya demanding absolute subordination (or) 3. The old RSS grouse that the film industry is dominated by “Muslims” may be driving it. Me thinks it’s compound of all three.

Anyway, as a civil libertarian, it is also a reminder of how grotesque our criminal justice system is, and how urgently it needs reform.

He has been explaining his actions in the past and talking about his new focus in life. Clearly, much of this has been inspired by introspection during the Covid-inspired lockdown, which also saw him announcing the end of his second marriage to filmmaker Kiran Rao in the most amicable way possible, much like his first divorce from Reena Dutta in 2002. Having wrapped up his long-pending Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of Forrest Gump (1994), which is to release next year, Aamir is clearly preparing for the next phase of his life. Whatever it may be, it is bound to be affected by the two years spent away from making movies.

      • The problem with Akshay Kumar is that he is making too much money from doing 4 average half-baked movies per year. As a result he is not invested in making good films.

On the other extreme Aamir is spending 4 years on trying to make a good film. Both the industry and the paying audience is suffering from such extreme stances. Someone needs to teach moderation to these guys.

        Liked by 2 people

        • Agreed. 1 movie per year from 9-10 big stars is still 9-10 big movies. You don’t need more. If on average each big film made 200Cr it’s good. Then all the medium/small films will do better and get enough space to create new stars.

Instead you have a system stuck. 10 films in 2022 for Akshay Kumar is incredible. Of course that is already 10 hits for someone here by hook or crook eliminating all logic of box office economics.

        • This is a list of films Akshay is working on. 4-5 of these will release in 2022 and the rest in 2023. Naveen is pushing the pedal as usual.

          Like

        • The problem is that others like Ranbir, Hrithik, SRK and Aamir are practically at 1 film every 4 years. There needs to be a middle ground somewhere. If it really was 1 good film a year for each top star, things would have looked better. Right now, it is Akshay Kumar with a good run with around 4-5 releases a year. He was consistently coming up with the 200cr net grossers right before the pandemic. And then you have Salman who has one release each year, but the last few were underperforming. The rest lack volume of work. You have to go back to the times of Sanju and Dangal to see anything worthwile from them and 5 years on until their next release means that the industry has lost out on in good cinema in there. If you sum up 1 standard year from Bollywood, it is 4 decent films from Akshay Kumar, 1 big budget film from Salman, a couple of content driven films with Amitabh Bachan and Ayushman Khurana and then small films with limited appeal aimed towards select audiences. And nothing much else.

        • Rahul – yes your hypothetical year is correct.
Bottom line if I look at CV of Aamir in this millennium of the films he has done as actor or producer (the latter surely counts?)
He will have 19 films in 21 years. It’s not terrible. That’s with the 01-05 release gap.
Yes Akshay’s probably got 100 films.
And if it was a serious discussion about the bigger star and more memorable films (ignore Naveen) I’m pretty sure majority neutrals will pick Aamir’s movies.

Yes if we count last 5 years with Aamir’s 3 films it’s meagre. Only 1 2000 cr WW grosser and near 1 1000 cr WW grosser. Barring that his return is awful.

There is no fan solution to this. Only the actor can answer this.

As a model I prefer 1 movie per year. 2 maximum. Then juxtaposition of every other star is enough movies for every fan.

Aamir’s issue is actually more pointed at younger stars like Hrithik and Ranbir. These guys should be doing more movies than Aamir period!

          Liked by 1 person

        • Agree with Rahul.
The problem is not with Akshay at all here.
Problem is with all the other stars. Even Big B, at his age, does more movies than other stars and that tell you a story.

Bollywood is now clearly run by Akshay Kumar. Rest are doing fill in the blanks one in a while. If every other actor comes on board to do reasonable work, we will look at a solid lineup every fortnight.

          Liked by 1 person

        • There is no reason why any star cant do one good film every year. Akshay too can do that instead of 4-5 mediocre films every year. Thats the point. That model of work will take the industry forward and also satisfy the audience.

          Like

        • Neither do the so called stars care for the industry nor their audiences. Hindi cinema needs a better set of writers, technicians & directors if its got to revive itself.

        • Films are creative activity for some. Like writing. It is not to support an industry or audience or fans. They are secondary for a creative actor like aamir whether his films are hits or not. Success and fans corrupt some and motivate some. Cant force him to do movies frequently. Just like cant force akshay to make only 2 movies per year.

          Like

        • A creative actor doesn’t act in films like D3 or ToH. Something has gone wrong for Aamir since Dangal. SS was an ok film imo and kind of underperformed in India given Aamir’s standards. ToH didnt work at all. Now LSC is coming after a gap and no one is expecting much from BO given the current situation. Hopefully it will be a good film.

I think the best course for him now is to announce his next on his coming bday and release it by end of 2023. Dont think he can work any faster than that. One movie every 2 years is the best be can do now. Has lost his edge with age.

          Like

        • By losing his edge, i mean the no of films he is doing. In the 00’s he did 9 films, in the 10’s he did 7. This decade it will probably be only 5. In the next maybe 3.

And thats ok. He has made millions in his career and now can choose to be choosy. Its his call after all.

        • The Aamir Khan working model has been fine. But seriously, devoting 4 years on something like a character like Firangi when you can deliver Bhuvan and Akash in a spate of months and Ranchod and Sanjay Singhania as well.. I leave that to you. By the time LSC releases it will have been 6 years since Dangal. If it is fine for you, then we can disagree over it here. I am not talking about 4 films a year.. I am talking about 1 project a year. I would personally prefer to see Aamir on screen at the very least every 2 years and he has showed he can deliver tremendous cinema within much smaller spells than that. You don’t need to waste 4 years on a character like Firangi. No one even remembers it, baring a few. That’s my my rant as a cinema lover. Well, we can disagree over it. Just as quantity may affect quality, Aamir’s filmography itself is proof that too lengthy time gaps do not proportionately translate into better quality.

          Liked by 1 person

        • Aamir spent 2 years on ToH, not 4 years on Firangi. Whether LSC is worth of 4 years of effort or not, depends on how the film turns out to be. And as I said things have not gone his way since Dangal.

          Like

        • Frankly, LSC wud have been 2 years of effort IF not for Covid. Without the pandemic, it wud have wrapped up shooting by July/Aug of 2020 and released on Christmas 2020. But like many current movies, its release has got delayed by 1.5 years. This of course have given more time to Aamir and his team and the audience can expect a better and more polished film now.

          Like

        • Jay, ok let us leave Aamir out of this debate and maybe you will get the point better. I do think that Hrithik, SRK, Ranbir are letting precious years go by without getting into enough projects these days. It was a refreshing to see HR back in Super 30 and War in a relatively short spell of time. The industry will be much better with these guys signing a couple of more projects consistently

If you are doing it for the sake of picking up the best scripts, then wasting years off making films like Zero, Kaabil, Thugs doesn’t make things look very good.

Forget Akshay Kumar, 1 film a year doesn’t harm necessarily the quality thar much. HR showed it with Super 30 and War. Aamir did it much earlier with Ghajini and 3 Idiots and Lagaan and DCH. All 4 are classics.

          Like

        • Less is more in my opinion. Look Aamir’s not James Cameron. But that kind of mindset if displayed by the best creative minds in India will lead to better films. Quantity does not equal quality. It never has and never will.
Any industry, any job – if you’re in a job to simply churn stuff out you’ll make errors in long run.
Now my go to analogy is always sport. Sport use to more about sport, playing it but once money came in it’s become a business model. Some sports where the athletes have choices like tennis, snooker, golf, boxing where they can pick the events they play – it prolongs their life. In cricket you see this with likes of Kohli relinquishing captaincy in T20. In football certain players quit international football to prolong their club football.

I think it’s not a cowardly act to attempt to give 100% on a film for 1 year+. The seriousness should be applauded not tempered.

Answer one simple question. If Aamir’s doing 1 film in 4 years and Akshay’s doing 15 in 4 years – who’s working more? As I see it a person doing 4 jobs in one day can only work 24 hours. Even a person doing 1 job can do 24 hours.

Now you may say Akshay’s feeding the industry as 15 directors, or 15 musicians are getting paid. But in the end it’s still the same wage relatively speaking each person is getting. The beneficiary of Akshay’s model is he himself. Unless Naveen’s getting a cut, the rest of us needn’t care so much.
I only care if I’m getting my money’s worth after those opening credits start to the point those ending credits finish. Everything else is irrelevant.

If Akshay’s knocking out 4 blockbuster classic films a year it’s a different conversation. He isn’t.

I would strongly argue if he had any sense he’d work less and get 2 great scripts per year and knock those out the park. Over a 10 year period he’d average a classic a year!

      • Incredible!

      • That is impressive list by Akshay. To call Akshay mini-industry is not wrong and it’s been like that for ages. New directors and new producers and not A-list actress has only Akshay Kumar movies to aim. There’s good chance to grab one of the movies in Akshay’s hand than something else. It’s very difficult to sign Aamir unless you have extraordinary script and for SRK, he won’t work in outside productions from ages and he needs better project setup more than script and Salman Khan signs only if producer or director are ready to listen to his whims and demands and crazy work schedules. So that puts out regular film makers (even SLB stopped InshaAllah after few test shoots) out of range. Only Akshay is available to be ‘hired’ as an actor and star and other top stars are never available and that’s also helping Akshay immensely. Akshay is the only star also who can lured to do bad movie with huge fat signing check. You can’t do that with others as they anyways do less movies. Akshay will not have an issue if one is bad movie out of his next list of releases.

Besides these, Tamil film ‘Mandela’, Marathi films ‘Aata Vel Zaali’, ‘Karkhanisanchi Waari’ and ‘Godavari’, Assamese film ‘Bridge, Gujrati film ‘Chhello Show’, Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’ and Gojri film ‘Laila Aur Satt Geet’ were also in the running and were screened at Kolkata’s Bijoli cinema where the screening process took place.

‘Koozhangal’, which is based on the relationship between an alcoholic father and his son and follows their journey together to bring back the wife/mother who has gone off to her father’s house, is based on a real incident that took place in director Vinothraj’s family, inspiring him to spin it into a story for his debut film. The feature has already won the prestigious Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam held in Netherlands earlier this year. The film has presented by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan and featured music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Tracking suggests Dune will open in the mid-$30 million range; Warners is being more cautious in suggesting $30 million. The film started out playing Thursday evening in roughly 3,200 theaters, including numerous Imax locations; by Friday, the count will grow to 4,100-plus.

    • “Aditya Chopra has immense faith in the theatrical medium and hence, he was all ready to follow the conventional 8 week window between theatrical and OTT release. However, when the national chains put out a statement about them being alright if films opt for a premium four weeks after their theatrical release, he felt it was only wise business decision to follow the norm. The entire industry has taken a four week window and seeing the advent of a new era, Adi and his team too have signed a deal with Amazon Prime keeping a 4 week window in mind,” a trade source informed Bollywood Hungama.

The source further added that Adi has fetched a premium amount over and above the pre existing 8 week window deal. His upcoming films – Bunty Aur Babli 2, Prithviraj, Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Shamshera will premiere on the digital world four week after their theatrical release. “However, he has reserved the biggest films from his slate – Tiger 3 and Pathan – for an 8 week window as things stand today, as they are looking to release towards the end of 2022. He also feels the two films deserve an exclusive theatrical window to amp the exclusivity of big screen entertainment,” the source added.

  24. Salman Khan is on a roll. After returning from the overseas leg of Tiger 3, he straight away jumped into shooting for some additional scenes of Antim: The Final Truth and is now all set to resume shooting for the final schedule of Tiger 3 in Mumbai. The last leg will be shot over a period of 6 weeks and be wrapped up by November end.

“Massive sets have been put up at multiple locations in Mumbai for Tiger 3 and it’s going to be a non-stop 40 day shoot now before calling it a film wrap. The team of this Maneesh Sharma directorial will be shooting some action and dramatic scenes over this schedule with Salman, Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi,” revealed a source close to the development. Calling it a wrap on Tiger 3, Salman will move on to shooting for this extended cameo in Godfather, which features Chiranjeevi in lead.

“It’s around 15-days of work for Salman in the Chiranjeevi starrer. On finishing it, Salman will take his annual break for birthday and new year celebrations. The dates are however subject to change depending on the Covid scenario. This is a tentative schedule based on the dates allotted by the actor at present,” the source added. New year would mean a new beginning for Salman as he commences work on the Sajid Nadiadwala production, Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali in Mumbai.

    • “It is expected to begin around January 15 in Mumbai. A massive set of a palace-like house will be put up at a studio in the city, which would result in the commencement of this comedy driven by action and drama. While Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde are locked as the leading actors, rest of the casting is underway,” the source informed, adding further that some top names from the Southern industry are also expected to come on board this project as there’s an element of cross-cultural love story in the premise. The work on music is underway at the moment.

After wrapping up the aforementioned projects, Salman is yet to decide his next. “It will be either of Black Tiger with Rajkumar Gupta or Anees Bazmee’s comedy, with the former being the forefront. The timeline of next after Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali is in the window of May – June, and he will lock the dates by this year end,” the source said. While Tiger 3 will release in the last quarter of 2022, Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali is expected to be his Eid 2023 opening. “Next year, it’s going to be Tiger 3 for Salman in lead with extended appearances in Pathan alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Godfather with Chiranjeevi,” the source concluded.

  25. Based on Tony’s suggestion, I finally caught up with SEARCHING last night. What an incredible movie! What a script! And this is not fake-experimentation like AK v AK. A genuinely, made for OTT, made with the tiniest budget possible, extremely rich in writing movie. The entire story unfolds within the confines of a computer and the idiot box! The computer is the one staring back at you as you put your eye to the peep-hole! Incredulous thinking on the part of the makers. It is just words, filthy social media filled with emojis replacing real emotions, likes, dislikes and crap. The makers have done a fine job of utilizing the villain itself to unmask the villain. [It beautifully exposes the fake emotions and so-called friendships that go with ‘friend requests.’]

Highly, highly recommended. Not to be missed and thanks to Tony for suggesting this.

@Shivaay these are the kind of movies I think OTT is good for; I am not sure how this movie did in the theaters. [I was surprised with BADLA’S success as well considering that is is almost a chamber-drama.]

For the record, his mother is a practising Hindu and he also has a Hindu name.

And yes, it doesn’t matter to me whether he’s Hindu or Muslim — my stance on drugs and Bollywood still remains the same.

      • @Saket you have opened up a can of worms; now the discussion is going to veer to whether AK was pointed a gun to his temple and asked to read the epics or the holy Quran…

Be that as it may, it points to a disturbing discussion-trend that you, out of all, were called a blind bhakth. I can understand it labelled against me by the RJ alphabet on this blog; but it is quite hilarious that you were called a ‘bhakth.’ I myself have had opposing discussions with you where you made pretty clear that you were/are hardly in favor of the current central government. Just pointing it out. Folks who want to research, can research.

Next, I posted a video of Vikram Sampath, a historian, trying to get an educated response; but as usual, the **Edited** replied who started this fire.

I would then want to truly appreciate you for the guts you took on calling out the Aurangzeb episode; the whole thing is summarized in Sampath’s response; but alas, it is only for the educated people…not **Edited**…

Hence, I am only interested in having discussions with educated folks like the youngster here; and really not anyone on such kind of matters…

        • I actually quite liked the Vikram Sampath debate with Shashi Tharoor. I watched the whole debate that’s about 30 mins long and Tharoor actually agrees with Sampath about having different interpretations of History — of having a dialogue about how history has been presented in India.

I thought that was quite a mature discussion, although Rajdeep was being provocative as usual.

I actually agree with Vikram Sampath about many points — that history has been unduly appropriated by Delhi and the South has been marginalized. And that we, as a nation, haven’t really come to terms with our past. We try to bury it and we try to explain it away but there are wounds that still fester.

There has been no ‘honest’ introspection of our past and until we do that, we really can’t move forward as a nation. And with social media present, the more we try to run away from our past, the more we will add fuel to the fire.

This is precisely what we are seeing today!

        • The point is very simple. It is not about someone has taken drugs or not. The point is the offense is bailable or not? NCB is not even charging him for taking drugs, that is easily bailable offense but they are pursuing Aryan Khan as being the ‘financier’ of the International drug racket. This, without having any concrete evidence. Everyone from founder of NCB to Supreme court advocates and judges are surprised if you are charging such a big charge against Aryan you have hardly any concrete proofs. Whatsapp chats are just starting point and that is not admissible to give punishment. They have found no other evidence and it is just games to delay the bail.

Second, I’m really keen to understand how many of the folks on this forum thinks that Aryan Khan is kingpin of International drug racket and has been doing drug trafficking for his survival? With all the sane talk and you support such preposterous theory, I have no respect for that type of sanity!

          Liked by 1 person

      • Lol. There is another theory floating on twitter that Srk is not trying hard to remove Aryan from the jail as he’s son of Hindu mother. There are some who even believes that theory.

        Like

        • What I’ve posted isn’t a “theory”. But a lot of leftist (so-called) journalists were OPENLY accusing the NCB of putting him in jail because Aryan Khan is a Muslim.

          Like

      • “because he is a Muslim!”- a Muslim can’t read the Gita? They even said they were giving him counselling; half of these stories are probably fake.

“my stance on drugs”- So it’s okay that a person’s reputation, mental well being can be dragged through the muck based on such a weak case and more importantly for being, at best a consumer?

        Like

        • Which world do you live in? Aurangzeb beheaded his own brother who used to read Hindu scriptures. If you want more proof, I’d be happy to post it here.

And besides, he’s not the only one who is in jail for consumption. 20 people have been caught from that incident alone and his own friends are quite wealthy. Armaan Kohli has been in jail for 2 months now — again based on consumption.

          Like

        • Aurangzeb was in the 17th Century!! This is a one percenter in the 21st Century. What does him reading the Gita have to do with the fact that you don’t think he’s being targeted for his religion or his mother being Hindu or him having a Hindu first name?

“And besides”-The NDPS is a terrible law that needs reform, and he hasn’t been booked under consumption. He’s being accused of being a financer in an international drug racket. A ridiculous stretch that was dismissed by everyone from Harish Salve to the founder of the NCB.

As I said to An Jo, this law and the NCB are an utter failure in how they go after drug consumers, instead of peddlers and supply chains. But in Aryan Khan’s case, it is really weird how the NCB is calling him a financer and in an international drug racket, how BJP workers were escorting an accused into the NCB office which naturally make the whole case suspect. It’s either It could be that the case is the perfect distraction from a Govt that has failed in the healthcare of its citizens, the security of its border, its international prestige, the economy and the gas price (or) 2. They want to send a message to the film industry like Dubya demanding absolute subordination (or) 3. The old RSS grouse that the film industry is dominated by “Muslims” may be driving it. Me thinks it’s compound of all three.

You see new things like this everyday and it smells more and more like a hit job:

Now it seems like blackmail and extortion.

          Like

        • First of all, for the left-leaning journalists to assume that Aryan Khan is Muslim is a stretch. At best, he is 50% Muslim.

But this is the argument that has been made time and again — He’s being targeted because he is a Muslim, which makes no sense.

Besides, this is what happens to Muslims who read Hindu scriptures:

A 55-year-old Muslim man was allegedly beaten for reading the Bhagvad Gita by people of his own community in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjamal area of Aligarh on Thursday, 4 July.

          https://www.thequint.com/news/india/aligarh-muslim-man-reads-gita-thrashed-by-people-of-his-own-community

My point being, to say that he is being targeted because he is a Muslim is completely absurd. And this accusation is the one that’s massively circulating on social media.

I’m not a fan of conspiracy theories but the present government can’t ever distract people away from their own failures. The pandemic handling in India was a disaster of epic proportions, for one.

Regarding your point #3, it really doesn’t hold water. Salman Khan has been acquitted in the hit-and-run case during this government’s reign. If anything, that’s a bigger travesty of justice than anything the NCB is doing.

And the RSS can’t do zilch when it comes to the Film Industry. Why did the NCB not target Aamir Khan’s son? Or Salman Khan’s nephews? Or Irfan Khan’s son and so on.

Even if the theory is true that the NCB has been unleashed on Bollywood, they can only catch people who are breaking the law, right? However distorted and outdated the law itself might be.

          Liked by 1 person

        • Besides, this is what happens to Muslims who read Hindu scriptures-“This is a one percenter in the 21st Century”. Different rules for different classes.

Just because the Govt can’t distract people doesn’t mean it won’t try.

Salman Khan was always close to the Centre, he flew kites and even gave Modi a clean chit for the Gujarat riots. His father said Modi is a ‘friend’. The ideological outlook of the Centre and some portals definitely blew some communal dog whistles, the Govt has such a reputation that everything it does gets painted with its favorite color.

Now, the extortion angle is something you haven’t addressed and one that is actually worse than all the above, but is one that seems highly likely given how much dirt is coming out. You and I both know this case is going to end up very badly for the NCB.

          Like

        • If Salman Khan is close to the centre, his films don’t parrot the centre’s ideology. If the RSS was so worried about the Muslim supremacy in Bollywood (your exact claim), then Salman Khan is also persona non grata. Remember Bajrangi Bhaijaan? Or his comments on Yakub Memon?

And you didn’t answer the point about his release being a bigger travesty of justice than anything the NCB has ever done. People died, in his case, for crying out loud!

Regarding the extortion angle, are you so naive to assume that the MVA government is immune to extortion? If so, I’ve got a broken fridge to sell you! And also an imaginary island.

They (MVA) openly took extortion from legitimate restaurants to open during the pandemic. These guys are as bad as the people in the centre, if not worse.

You and I both know this case is going to end up very badly for the NCB.

Based on what? social media chatter? Yeah well, the BJP would have lost the last election if I believed in that for a second.

        • I agree Salman ought to be behind bars; it was a great travesty of justice. But he did have closeness to the ruling party at the right time for him to get acquitted.

The MVA definitely does extortion, it’s the Shiv Sena’s source of income throughout the years but that doesn’t mean that if this extortion charge turns out true, it’ll be a huge scandal that’ll implode the NCB and break this case.

I’ll tell you; if this case doesn’t implode, I will call myself an idiot and never post anything about SRK again.

As Bhakt of Hanumanji and Shiv ji, i am a proud bhakt.

It was always considered a powerful mode of living.

      Read more here –
      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhakti#:~:text=Bhakti%20(Sanskrit%3A%20%E0%A4%AD%E0%A4%95%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A4%E0%A4%BF)%20literally,representational%20god%20by%20a%20devotee.

Somewhere in early 2000s few started using Bhakt as slang in India. I think it was started by AAP and later taken by all opposition party to denote anyone who is a BJP supporter. That whether one is a blind supporter or informed supporter doesn’t matter. Bhakt is an extremely informed formed of devotion.

First started in derogatory way on twitter, now it is a slang used in negative way by a section of trolls who when arguing with another view use it when they lack substance and to divert the topic call the other person a Bhakt.

I still dont think Bhakt can ever be a slang for me. I feel proud when someone tells me a Bhakt. No one tell me that but in reality i am a devotee of Baba Bholenath and devotee of the biggest Bhakt manking has seen – Hanuman ji.

Lets aspire to be a Bhakt. 🙏

Currently, there is no provision for relief or exemption under the NDPS Act and it only gives addicts immunity from prosecution and imprisonment if they volunteer for rehabilitation.

In its recommendations shared with the Department of Revenue last week, the ministry suggested decriminalising possession of small quantities of drugs for personal consumption, officials said.

  30. Devyani Khobragade’s arrest and strip search triggered an uproar in India. Devyani alleged she was repeatedly handcuffed and stripped and kept with “common criminals and drug addicts”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, then serving as Gujarat chief minister, had refused to meet with a US delegation, in protest against the “ill treatment” of Devyani Khobragade.

Devyani was granted bail immediately. However, the UPA government responded to her arrest by removing concrete barricades around the US embassy in Delhi and asking US consular staff and their families to return their diplomatic ID cards. The UPA government also transferred Devyani to a post in India’s mission at the UN, which would have granted her diplomatic immunity. Despite this, a US grand jury indicted Devyani Khobragade in the visa case in early January 2014, following which she left the US.

        • Grand Jury indictment indicates there is a prime facie case for prosecutiors to proceed.
If they don’t take family there would have been pressure on maid to recant her confession. If the family was in US, that would not have happened because pressuring family is considered obstruction of justice and you will get more severe punishment. If you lie or obstruct process, you are in big trouble. They are process crimes; You are going to be behind bar for long time even without doing any crime.

The basic problem is that in India people are used to all “juggad”, game the system; when people with means cannot do, they make huge noise. In Case of Devyani she gave false statement to bring help when her salary was not enough to pay minimum wage. This thing (lower than federal minimum wage) has happened with many companies where they bring people on B1 (Business visa) or some religious visa and make them work at Indian salary. Indian temple case and many Indian body shoppers get into trouble doing so.

Infosys fined for bringing people on B1 visa and but actually worked:

Do you think Devyani in visa application claiming to give certain amount and later pay lower amount is correct? Many in US (who come from India on H1) earn much more than combined incomes of her and her husband but they don’t have help in house.

So the great theory goes that we do not differentiate between an an average Joe and a Bernie Madoff. Let me tell you something; it is the average Joe that suffers till he dies.

Here’s the thing; what the Americans have – I agree that it is not color-determined — once you get your name into the system; you WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO get out of that stigma. Till your death, it will haunt you; so you can never attend an interview for a job and you need to honestly declare that you were arrested once for DUI or for stealing bracelets from a mall; that employer, and all other employers, will sweetly give you a response that, ‘we found a better candidate yada yada’. In essence, in the AMERICAN society, there is NO way you can redeem yourself. One has to live this bull-shit till one dies. You will be forever judged and laughed at. THE US system is bull-shit; bull-crap – THEY ARE more interested in the police-political intersection; they are NOT interested in reformation at all. The more prisoners you push into jails, the more the income. This is the pathetic state in a so-called ‘developed’ number 1 country in this world.

Indraadip Dasgupta, a member of the jury that decided upon the official entry for Oscars this year, told a leading daily, “Sardar Udham is a little lengthy and harps on the Jallianwala Bagh incident. It is an honest effort to make a lavish film on an unsung hero of the Indian freedom struggle. But in the process, it again projects our hatred towards the British. In this era of globalization, it is not fair to hold on to this hatred.” He added that the film’s production lives up to international standards and praised the cinematography of the film as well.

Another member of the jury, Sumit Basu, also said, “Many have loved Sardar Udham for its cinematic quality including camerawork, editing, sound design and depiction of the period. I thought the length of the film was an issue. It has a delayed climax. It takes a lot of time for a viewer to feel the real pain for the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.”

One fan also wrote, “Whether Sardar Udham deserves an entry or not is a different question, but to dismiss on such grounds displays nothing but racism and power dynamics. Globalisation doesn’t mean we cannot raise our voices against historical injustice anymore. So many sociopolitical movements around the world would cease to exist then. I guess “globalisation” hadn’t been an issue when Lagaan and Rang De Basanti were nominated.”

According to a report in a news portal, Nayanthara had kept October and the first half of November for Atlees’s film but it couldn’t be shot during this time. And now, she has shoots for other projects lined up back to back which will make it difficult for her to find time for Atlee and Shah Rukh Khan.

According to Deputy Commissioner Of Police Pranav Tayal, the accused ran two illegal call centres from where they would call people posing as officials of the Department of Post. An employee of the Department of Post headed one of the call centres, police said.

Police have said the racket had been targeting people across several states.

According to police, the callers would tell people that there is a limited period offer under which they would get two cellphones, priced at ₹ 18,000, for ₹ 4,500. To make the offer look authentic, the racket would use India Post for logistics and offer the cash on delivery option.

  71. Now that cinemas have opened in Maharashtra and the situation would be much more normal by the time Laal Singh Chaddha releases, do you expect that it’ll break the record of Dangal?

At the moment, we are focused on making the best possible film. Whether the recovery from the theatrical space will exceed the economics of the film is a question that will be answered in a few months as audiences return to theatres, starting with Sooryavanshi. Many things are up in the air. My understanding is that the demand for content is very strong. The audiences are absolutely keen on having a theatrical experience. We have had a lot of consumption on the small screen to the extent that people are now clearly seeing a gap between a big screen experience vs a small screen experience. So sentiment-wise, I don’t have any doubt. Now, logistically, we don’t know what the situation would be then. We all have been talking about the third wave. Thankfully, things are much better and vaccination has crossed the billion mark. These are positive factors and February is still a few months away. Closer to the release, we’ll be in a better space to discuss box office.

Not sure what Paresh Rawal is talking. Firstly it was called Phir Hera Pheri and it was actually good hit. It is actually first instance of clean hit for a sequel in Hindi movie industry. Next came Krrish and finally Dhoom 2. No one talks about it but that’s the fact!

      • LOL … Sometimes what it needs is to read between the lines to avoid confusion. Heri Pheri was not big at box office. It was just a commission earner. But it really ‘worked’ in the sense that over time it became an ageless cult classic and developed immense shelf life. On the other hand, PHP may be a box office hit, but it was not liked that much and has no shelf life. Thats what is meant by the veteran when he says ‘it did not work’.

Its necessary to come out of the box office bubble and/or counting crores in order to smell the real world. This is the reason why its silly to place srk and aamir in the same sentence and talk about what they have done to Bollywood. Srk may have faced box office success and made crores (just like Salman) but those forgettable films dont mean much in the long run. Create a filmography like aamir and u are looking at a real legacy, which is timeless.

Hera Pheri is timeless, PHP is not. Its rather crude to compare careers with films, but the essence of the matter is the same.

      • “I’m quite sure just like Rhea’s case went cold as soon as she got bail, this will too,”

That is exactly the point. High Court had to interfere and put a stop on Rhea’s case saying there is no evidence and there’s no case. That’s why it went cold. Same thing will happen here. NCB is able to influence sessions court and special NCB courts but they don’t stand a chance without much evidence infront of High court or higher courts.

        1) Given statement is invalid in court
        2) Whatsapp chats are invalid in higher courts for sentencing.
        3) No drugs in possession

It will not even stick even a day. As I said the only game NCB is playing here is to delay the bail and that is their only intent. The case will never stick. Keeping Rhea in jail for 28 days and Aryan for 22 days is just the max they are aiming for and that shows that whole intent of NCB is just to get publicity and noise. They too know these cases won’t go far and can’t get the accused punishment, then why even pursue and waste so much of govt resources for no concrete reason.

There are plenty of news floating out there about sameer credibility and well as ncb making people sign blank paper, etc.

NCB will lose a lot of credibility here because the media will cover this just like how they covered it past 3 weeks. This isn’t rhea, this time they have aryan who by himself is nobody but due to his father being srk, this will not go down easily for sameer.

Now, if aryan truly is guilty where he is involved in international drug trafficking which sameer/ncb hinted at, and if it’s proven than aryan should be behind bars for rest of his life but everything i’ve seen so far, this is nothing more than a witch hunt with so many loopholes.

So, he was always set to go back to Income tax officer. Now that is more likely to happen. He is not in NCB for long and he was brought in for a purpose after SSR death and that appears to be backfiring.

      • Actually Sameer Wankhede reminds of Lalit Modi, the IPL founder. He was running BCCI and IPL like his personal company and always publicity hungry. He was then kicked out of IPL and BCCI and everything associated with cricket and then he’s been out of country. He enjoyed the superstardom for that first 3 years of IPL and then nosedived. I see something similar with Sameer Wankhede. He’s just over 1 YEAR in NCB and already facing so many issues. He’s running the operations according to his personal choices. There is an article in newspaper last week that many of NCB officers advised not to proceed with charge sheet for this cruise case as the drug is not huge quantity and this will not go far but he still went ahead to charge them and waste everyone’s time.

Now there are 2 teams investigating Sameer. Internal NCB team and external Mumbai police team. He needs to special protection to come out of it without a scratch or he needs to have done no wrong in his life till now.

Both Srk and Salman are reportedly charging 100 cr fees for these films. Now 100 cr has been recovered for each from digital rights, which implies 200 cr yet to be recovered from other rights and theatrical revenue, which is a high ask.

Salman still has delivered 2 previous Tiger blockbusters for YRF and so the third part is relatively safer for the franchise factor (like D3 was). But Srk in similar space has only delivered the Don films which were both commission earners. Pathan may prove to be a costly mistake, specially riding on someone whose last BO hit was back in 2014.

      • Both Salman and Shah Rukh have delivered back to back flops in the last 3-4 years. For them to be paid in excess of a 100 Cr at this stage of their careers is exactly what’s wrong with Bollywood and why the industry’s struggling in these times while the rest of the regional industries are galloping ahead. Actor remuneration needs to be in proportion with a film’s overall production value.

none of us know the exact amount of money any actor got for any movie or the cost of the movie itself. Everything is based on assumption and some runs with it.

Have you seen a memo from any producer listing the cost of the movie or income tax paper work which would have that info?

It’s funny some of the comments we get to read here.

Like how one spammed the blog past 3 weeks but today no comments on that specific item 🙂
Master, i’m glad you’re not spamming the blog today with the news of aryan bail, shows your maturity.

    • Interested to know how much Netflix has paid for the digital rights of Sooryavanshi. If its a similar 100 cr amount then Sooryavanshi can actually break even at even 100 cr nett total.

    • The combined budgets of Pathan and Tiger 3 are 630 Crore, now YRF has 200 crore for digital rights only, satellite would be another 120-150 (both), theatrical (if the films succeed) is another 500.

Just amazing how Hindi film producers can make profits so easily these days.

War was actually quite well made for a Bollywood actioner. There have been very few well-made action films from Bollywood in the last decade. I had huge doubts on Anand being able to deliver it after Bang Bang. As for YRF, the concepts and execution of the slow motion action in Dhoom 3 were huge turn-offs. But War turned to be much better in terms of relentless action and the execution.

Anywhere near it, Pathan will be a winner. However, War had HR, who is tailor-made for stylish action films like these. He is born to make films like these. Neither SRK nor JA are anywhere near matching him in there. No comparison at all possible. And there was Tiger as well.

    • One problem with Tiger 3 is its director, but the franchise factor will probably override it. Sid Anand is an inconsistent guy. Even with HR in action mode he delivered the underwhelming Bang Bang.

Both Pathan and Tiger 3 will be huge releases and best bet for 300 cr grossers post-pandemic. Both has top actresses too.

    • War worked the way it did because Sridhar Raghavan was involved, it was a proper masala film in a lot of ways with character developments and arcs. I was very scared with Pathan till Sridhar Raghavan confirmed his involvement. I’d say SRK/John/Deepika/Salman cameo can work like the Hrithik style factor.

Still big fear left is the lack of live locations because of Covid. Now that Aryan is out, they should go to Spain and shoot something on location.

    • Here we not not talking about movies which are taking indian action movie to next level. These are movies to encash on War’s success etc. and at best promise to be at par with War.

      Hence my apprehensions.

Tiger will be tough as just like Dhoom, War has now raised the bar for urbane action. Did not like Tiger 2 and know that it got the best every release dates of last 5 years pumping up its numbers by 100 cr.

Pathaan has same director as War which is a plus. I think it has a better chance than Tiger but still needs to be cost controlled and not make the bar too high where 300cr nett theatrical is needed to breakeven.

  98. So happy for Gauri, Aryan, Srk and family. They really went through hell like many parents. R. Madhavan summed up his feelings nicely in his tweet.

      Relieved for the family.

May one never go through the mental trauma of watching their child suffer. This might have been as harrowing for SRK/Gauri as for Aryan.

Also wish peace upon those who were getting voyeuristic pleasure in seeing the family suffer. May you or your loved ones never go through anything like this.

      • Agreed on the greater point Tony; but disagree with you that there are people — and am only talking of this blog — who wish to get pleasure of some superstar’s son or daughter suffering in jail. If there are folks in India to whom 93/kg for tomatoes is less important than the super-rich AK, may God bless them, and may they continue living in their hallucinations….

    • Extremely happy with what Madhavan said. Trolls were comparing his son with SRK’S and when viewed in that context, a message from Madhavan puts things in perspective.

We have to isolate ourselves from using the language of bucolic trollers. We may like or dislike but should not borrow slangs used by trollers. They are not like us. Trolls are illiterate, frustrated and psycho kind of narcissistic crowd.

Personally i am relieved. I knew Aryan would get the bail even if what NCB claims is true. You cannot be in Jail nowadays like what happenned to Sanjay Dutt or Lalu Yadav. If former Attorney Generals like Mukul Rohatgi advocate for you, even the senior HC judges cannot question their logic.

I think, Aryan did a mistake. I hope he learns. Its always the family who sufferes. Its high time he take responsibility and do not take it otherwise or against his own family.

    • Now we need major legal reform to make sure this “process=punishment” situation ends. If they can make SRK’s son go through this on such a faulty case, I dread to think what we commoners can go through and what many already go through in our jails.

Also major changes to this draconian drug law

      • Jail term does not mean that prisoners, undertrials have to live in filth and unhygienic conditions. They need not give five star rooms like in Norway but they can provide clean bathrooms, towels, sufficient water supply, fans.
We need to treat prisoners as human beings. Even animals get better treatment in Zoos.
Kiran Bedi used to do some good work while she was in charge.
Our present system turns even undertrials into hardened criminals.
The biggest punishment for prisoners is to lose freedom. Why to compound it by making them suffer filth and unhygienic conditions?

After banning the Squid Game costumes ahead of Halloween, the school administration pointed out that Netflix itself had marked the show for mature audiences with its feature of mass killings, torture, violence, nudity, suicide, smoking and scenes of a sexual nature.

It’s a sick show. Very controversial even in terms of its entertainment quotient .
The viewers become as complicit as the demented, high-profile sadists who derive pleasure out of watching mass killings.
The huge success of this is rather telling. Don’t we have shows like Big Boss, now in its 15th season, enjoying great success? People love to watch.

  101. Kept watching this song on a loop…of course for Madz…

RR, without the burden of his son, I feel had a better understanding of the masala metre than his contemporaris…be it KALA BAZAR, or that movie with Kabir Bedi and Rekha, or KOYLA…am still stunned that this was a flop…maybe it was a sign of the times…SRK had moved on from throwing Mrs Kundra off her terrace and was quite comfy in that idiotic zone of cute dimples and overacting…and this one didn’t just cut the ice…but man, was Madz magnetic…just watch her wring her hands apart when the lyrics go: DIL TOH, JUDAA NAHI HOTE…

    • Rekha & Kabir Bedi’s Khoon bhari maang is very well done revenge drama. Even Karan Arjun is great for its genre and intent. Infact Karan Arjun is SS Rajamouli’s fav movie and it helped him immensely to stick to the masala genre and not become too modern. He said there are influences of KA in his movies.

Koyla would have done better if released prior to DDLJ. Suddenly the audience was interested in seeing SRK in modern roles(Pardes, Yes Boss & Dil to Paagal hai released along with Koyla). Secondly keeping Srk mute for majority of the movie backfired. Literally no need to do that and could have just made the movie as regular character. Watching hero as dumb guy is very painful on screen especially in commercial movies like Koyla.

      • I think Khudgarz was well done. It had a very simple and thin plot with 2 friends turning into sworn enemies but RR included powerful moments of emotion and drama. The 2 main actors complemented each other very well. And the main song, ‘zindagi ka naam dosti’ turned out to be very popular.

Kishan Kanhaiyya was decent commercial cinema as well.

Rakesh Roshan has a solid track record as director, Khel, King Uncle and Koyla being his only notable commercial flops as director.

Koyla did not do too well. Those were days when action or revenge dramas were not doing too well. Probably only Ziddi, Mohra, Jeet, Gupt, Khiladyon ka Khiladi and Ghaatak were genuine hits in that phase in the genre.
