Producer Jackky Bhagnani, who was looking forward to the theatrical release of Coolie No 1 on May 1, said he is not thinking about films right now.
“Let us overcome this crisis and we will announce in happier times,” Bhagnani said when asked about whether he was looking at releasing the film digitally.
Reliance Entertainment said it will wait to release two of this year’s most awaited films, Sooryavanshi and ’83 in theatres.
“We will first complete the film, then we will wait. If six or nine months down the line, the situation becomes worse, we will take a call at that time. There is no hurry. Same is the case with Sooryavanshi and our other films,” Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar told PTI last month.
“There is a lot of big money involved. Also, if you release on OTT, you cannot release it in theatres. If you release a film in theatre, it will come on satellite as well as digital later,” said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Sad to see GULABO releasing on OTT. But with Shoojit, he would have kept the economics tight I guess. Hate why these director go about messing with Amitabh’s face, be it 102 not out or GULABO. With Shoojit at the helm, hopefully there will be some reasoning.
The one film I really don’t want to watch on OTT is JHUND. It doesn’t matter if it is delayed another year. Manjule and Amitabh, on OTT, is really sad.

OTT medium is highly overrated unless we’re watching 45 min mini series on a 6 inch screen to be honest. All these flag bearers of the so called “new normal” (where humans would never shake hands for the rest of their lives, kids would grow up to become sociopaths due to online learning and no school campus exposure & we’d gradually proceed to have sex with robots) can first imagine watching a Tenet or WW84 or a Bond on a puny 6 inch mobile screen before going back to netflix worshipping.

I second you .. #Jhund should not release on OTT, that would be absolutely disaster if happens. I was waiting for #Jhund for so long .. and i can wait for another two years, but only on big screen.

Bhai sb ..it is time to smell the coffee now.. It’s the time when such films have no scope to get theatrical release anymore as nobody would risk his life to watch Ayushman Khurrana Starrer on big screen.. Only films of A listers may get theatrical release now.. Even time for Amitabh Bachchan to pack his bags and enjoy Jhund on OTT.

Domestic airlines to continue remaining grounded indefinitely despite the DGCA, AAI & respective airlines being confident of operations resumption. In context, even Pakistan has resumed domestic air travel by 25% after a 2 month hiatus. What initially seemed like a proactive measure by the center is soon turning into a game of confusion, fear mongering & political opportunism by the states & center alike.

Modi Govt – The single biggest agent of chaos in the history of Independent India, be it an unplanned demonetization disaster exercise or a completely random unplanned lockdown with no clear exit strategy (all except the legendary 8 pm monologues). Atmanirbhar Bharat is one where liquor stores have more relevance than stranded domestic passengers who’re away from their families for 2 months now and have no flights or trains in sight. Suck it up bhakts, this chaos is gonna last till 2024 after which we perhaps witness the rise of the commies and pseudo secular fiends.

Sad part is the poor are really suffering a lot. be it demonetization or this latest fiasco. While poor are still waiting for the money that keeps getting promised.
Sad to see pictures/videos of so many deaths on road side of workers trying to get back to their home.
I can’t even imagine something like this happening in USA, there would be huge outcry from all over. Here in USA, 90% are getting $1200 stimulus check and in india, there’s a scheme to fund government.
Well, hopefully next 8pm monologues will bring some good news for the poor (actual help, not promises).

Raja Hindustani was a monster like Gadar in small centers. I remember a batch mate But I think 3 Idiots was monsters in cities like DDLJ; It kept on churning 10 crore daily on weekdays when 10 crore was norm on first Sunday. You don’t get almost 75% more within a year or more than 250% in 2 years in spite for accounting for increased ticket prices.
I don’t believe in “exact” footfalls in Indian context but IMO footfalls…RH >3 Idiots > Dangal> PK

Raw footfall wise RH > Dangal > PK > 3 Idiots. But 3I released at a time of transition from SS to multiplexes in just about 1700 screens when usual hits like OSO and RNBDJ were struggling to cross even 2 cr footfalls. 3I comfortable surpassed 3 cr pan India while Dangal crossed 3.5 cr pan India at a time when even the likes of TZH and Sanju got close to 3.

A tribute to Rangeela:
People often call the SRK-Chopra romances as the films that changed the dynamics of the Hindi movie industry back in the day. For me, however, Rangeela will remain the true watershed moment for 90s cinema. What really distinguished this cult classic from the other big-budget blockbusters is the rootedness and familiarity of its characters. It effortlessly marred the distinction between the real and reel world, with a story about flesh and blood characters enamoured by the world of cinema, narrating how their lives get affected by the medium.
It was a turning point in the careers of its major artists, both in front of and behind the camera. His fans discovered for the first time that Aamir could play a totally different role (from his usual chocolate hero ones) with conviction and make Munna an iconic character that will be remembered with relish years down the line. It made way for him to experiment with different roles and subjects over the years.
People in time discovered that RGV had a perverted gaze. I’m not sure of his real intentions in the way he presented Urmila, but she owned the film and how! She embraced her sexuality with abandon and challenged you to look away every time she graced the camera with her amazing screen presence.
RGV instantly shot to frame and came to limelight of audiences and critics, delivering his first of many subsequent films that were iconic and had a high repeat value. But this remained the only largely successful romantic comedy he made.
Above all, though, Rangeela would be remembered for its revolutionary and mesmerising music, heads and shoulders above the rest of its time. Rahman had already come to notice of Bollywood for his game changing songs in Tamil and Telugu, but his first Hindi album is tough to match up to for new composers even 25 years later.
I still remember the day my father got the audio cassette home after reading a glowing music review. On the first listen, I failed to understand the big deal about it, for the songs sounded very peculiar. Three months later, I was begging him to buy me a new cassette because me and my sister had damaged the tapes after playing them on loop, day in day out.
I turned into a Rahman fan instantly. Reading through his autobiography “The Musical Storm” now brings back many fond memories of his best works.
For now, sharing an audio of a film that introduced me to his unparalleled genius. The Spirit of Rangeela is a majestic instrumental track that captures the essence of the film remarkably well.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. This was, in all sensical and non-sensical approach, a true tribute to Amitabh’s taper act the only HE could do. This one, and SARKAAR was RAMU at his best, and Aamir here is simply mind-blowing, albeit with poor dancing steps.
We in Bombay lived on the ‘kaanda kaatke laa’ scene for years; until we were stupid enough to grow old…

To think of all the corruption and the disgusting film-farce awards, the BEST ACTOR trophy went so SRK in DDLJ!!
Both Aamir and Pakya were brilliant; embodying so terrifically the spirit of Bombay…
Disgusting. In Ramu’s own words, ‘SAB GANDA HAI PAR DHANDA HAI YEH’…

Agree on those films as a whole. But again, as I mentioned before, it is unfair to compare what we deem ‘wafer-thin’ plots to films that are in themes and subjects more heavy. I hold Amit’s act in kHUDDAR in the same esteem as in DEEWAR or Mr. NATWARLAL.
Rangeela was a true-blue representation of Bombay and it’s film industry- by a guy running a video store in Andhra – and decorating it with his own years of influences.
This film needs a bigger discourse. Pranym has dragged me back memory lane when we were getting inculcated into adult-hood; and now that I look back at some of the scenes, this one’s simply a brilliant one out of Ramu’s book.
On SARKAR, some other day…or night…
Who could have imagined such a scene with Neeraj Pathak and Avtar Gill?
Naariyal phoda, phir bumb se udaya!!!!

Yes agree on everything and share similar experience.
I was head over heels over Urmila those days. She looked, acted and performed brilliantly in songs.
Aamir was stunning as Munna. One of the most lovable character he has played.
And the movie’s soul was its music. Those just grew and kept growing.
