Good stuff Qalandar. Enjoy your trip and do spare a thought for Ray and Aparajito as well!

I thought of Aparajito as well, but mentioning Ray in the same breath as Sarkar, Parashar, and Behl might have been tempting fate!!!
Of course the mother of all recent films set in Varanasi is obviously NAAN KADAVUL…

Yeah I really want to watch the latter.. in NY though sometimes it’s easier to catch a film from Congo in the theater. Unless of course one is willing to make a bit of a trek to NJ which in turn (and no offense to NJ residents) is always a bit of a trauma for a New York resident!

Only Varanasi in U.P. (hamesha shauq tha jaane ka, and had never been). But will have to make some time for family, so am heading to M.P. (Bhopal) for a couple of days as well (my chacha is currently there). Will also be squeezing some time for Karachi-based family, so all in all this is a bit of a rushed trip… 🙂

Qalandar, you deserved to be a ‘brown saheb’ in colonial times and have a job in the railways or something where you could have been forever touring India! Not a bad fate at all (if one discounts having to live in pre-Bachchan times!).

Jokes aside while I haven’t been to Benares (let’s be colonial here!) it is definitely on my ‘to do’ list. This city it seems to me is a rather unique place in the world. I doubt there’s another place in the world where the dead do so much traffic with the living.

yeah but that has to be done before the Taleban get there! it’s terrifying to see how they’ve advanced in that country.

Rocky, nowadays wordpress gives you the option of responding to a comment, not just to a post — hence the order changes, and hence there’s a “reply” after each comment…

But it’s still clear because there’s threading.. if one is just responding to the topic one can do so in normal fashion.. however if one is responding to someone or something in specific it’s a useful option.
