    • she was the greatest female legend of Bengali cinema. There’s no single actress in Hindi cinema who is her equivalent in this sense. She of course did a few Hindi films one of which you’ve pointed out.

      • Agree-nice emo song. Even her hindi accent in the movie couldn’t distract from her beauty.& don’t want another film to spoil it for me now-haven’t seen another film of hers.
Btw let oldgold ‘sulk’-the ‘new oldgold’ is thankfully around. Ha
        A ‘return gift’ track-that i like a lot-enjoy ..anu & og

      • Was thinking of mailing you abt it earlier (but I don’t think you are checking your inbox)- You and OG might be interested to know that Marvel has published a very jazzy graphic-novel adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (the writer is Nancy Butler who alongwith Marvel has adapted some other Austen works as well). To be frank usually Austen novels doesn’t do anything for me on a personal level (and also because she has this habit of turning her male characters into sort of sissies. But this is simply a personal opinion, I can of course see why is she so respected) but this adaptation is an exception.

        • oh man! a marvel graphic novel! not surprising though. i may just have to buy that 🙂
you should try reading austen again though. nobody does roaring humor, biting sarcasm, simmering romance and subtle commentary on human folly, all rolled into one package, better than her. and some of her work is actually darker than people realize, if you understand what she is saying.
to paraphrase austen herself, i don’t know how i’ll be able to like anyone who doesn’t like her work

  2. Liked her a lot in the handful of Hindi films she did. I would like to watch some of her Bengali classics at some point – if anyone has recommendations that would be cool.

Her films with Asit Sen were memorable. Deep Jwele Jaai which was made in hindi as Khamoshi with Waheeds, Dharm and Kaka. Uttar Falguni where she did a double role quite brilliantly.

      • Uttar falguni too was remade as Mamta (with Dharmendra and her). Then Sadanander Mela, one of the great classics of Bengali cinema, was remade as Dil Daulat Duniya with Rajesh Khanna. Check out the image of the day today, this film was remade as Kora Kaagaz. There are some others too.

Here she somewhat looks like Jamuna, the telugu star of yesteryears who acted in Milan as the third angle.

Suchitra looked more beautiful as she aged. Her daughter moon moon sen was very attractive and the granddaughters are also quite pretty. Beauty runs in their family.

Ya the pic in auteur corner of her with soumitra chatterjee is another wonderful close up but she was not able to push the career of her daughter like what aparna did for konkana

Between aparna and konkane 5 national awards which is astonishing

Konkana sen has given her best performance when she had her mother as director

Konkona has unconventional looks and she is not a typical beauty. Her acting is always good. I liked her in Mr and Mrs Iyer and also in other movies. She looks quite stylish in her sarees and the way she carries herself.
