Liked the first one and i know everyone loved the first one whoever watched. This is Not bad but trailer tries too hard. Best thing is election contest and boman irani.
OK now this trailer surely looks a wee bit promising. But can somebody tell me why would anyone want to make a remake of a flop movie? I do have hazy memory regarding this but wasn’t the first one a resounding flop?
Anyway, the best part is to wait for Khalid’s review on B2. Here’s his first, acidic, vitriolic one if anyone is interested..That duel between AB and KM was juicy!!!

Review: Bhootnath
Bhoothnath
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, Amal Siddique, Shah Rukh Khan
Direction: Vivek Sharma
Rating: *1/2 Dear Mr Amitabh Bachchan, Hey! Hey! Hey! There was an actor I knew once, who took my breath away. Guess I was impressionable. There is an actor I see now, who makes me gag when I watch his desperado craftsmanship, forget artistry. The actor, sorry to say is your good-self. What happened?
Now first-time director Vivek Sharma’s Bhootnath confirms my most dreadful suspicions. I had evidenced a decline in the Bachchan University of Acting with Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (alas, your carpet-like coat was more impressive than your dancing), Chini Kum (does it behoove you to pounce on dear Tabu in the London grass and ask, “You want to do it here?”).
Frankly, Mr Bachchan, after Black is there anything that you have done that you can proud of? And believe me, it’s facile if not immature to impute personal motives vis-a-vis criticism.
And the last straw that broke this camel’s back was that scratch session of the nostrils in Ram Gopal Varma ki Naaq. Something died within me that day. Bye bye childhood Indian idol. Sniff, sob, sniffle, cinema can be such a bawl game.
Anyway, largely the subject du jour is Bhoothnath. You are a ghost, wearing fungus streaks on the face, silvery nails, and again a tattered carpet! Oh man!
So, you’re angry with the new inmates of your Madras-style mansion in Goa: it even has a tumble down staircase, reminding you of Renuka Shahane going for a toss in Hum Aapke Hain..Koun! Instead of Renukaji, you tumble down, die and become a bhoot. What a hoot!
Time passes (slowly), then a tiny tot tumbles on that staircase. From a bad ghost you become a good ghost. Mercy be, you even change into slightly better suits. Come come, is there a darzi for ghosts in Goa? Did you pay by credit card?
Mischievous tot Bunkoo and you play pranks. Loved that, especially the way you moved furniture around magically. Bunkoo and you were quite sweet for 10 minutes. And then hey, hey, hey, after the intermission, Bhoothnath became Baghban 2.
Everyone cried, an ungrateful son fetched up, a prayer meeting was organised to give mukti to your spooky spirit. And Mr Bachchan, you smiled, cried, smiled, cried, as if you were at a photo-session. Sincere tip: a crash refresher course at the Pune Film Institute might help.
Really, it’s no point just putting on a thick bass voice (dubbing remixes zindabad), darting the by-now predictable glum-and-jolly expressions, repeating the Albela Bhagwan-inspired dance moves, and for heaven’s sake, stop that, “Haiiieeeeeen”, an irritating cross between a question and exclamation. It makes my toes curl.
Frankly, Mr Bachchan, after Black is there anything that you have done that you can proud of? And believe me, it’s facile if not immature to impute personal motives vis-a-vis criticism. Open up your windows, this has happened to actors infinitely superior to you. Frankly again, do understand that professional discourse is what cinema, acting and criticism are all about.
So instead of scanning the myriad facets of Bhoothnath, why this letter to you? Simply because, your role, in this case, has becomes bigger than the project. The kid (Aman Siddique) is adorable like all kids are. Juhi Chawla could do with some body toning pronto and hello, Shah Rukh Khan is criminally wasted in a role that was obviously set up to boost ‘star value’ just in case.
From what I’ve heard, seen and detected, you do take an interest — more than the amount required of an actor — in quite a few of your projects. Obviously, this was not one of them. Vishal-Shekhar’s music is dull-dull-dull, ditto the cinematography and writing.
And do you approve of the belief in the irrational and the absurd advanced by this misconceived enterprise? Do you believe it’s okay to carry school teachers and principals as buffoons?
“I only act,” is the traditional way-out of an uncomfortable question. So be it. Sure do act. But how about doing it the way you used to? With flair and conviction, not with ham and bacon.

And here’s a review of KM’s review..LOL stuff!!
KM: Shah Rukh Khan is criminally wasted
In case you didn’t notice Khalbert Einstein, the movie is named Bhootnath. It is NOT named ‘Devdas ki Mohabbatein ke Paheli’. It is not a Shahrukh Khan movie. Of course he will be wasted. Though I didn’t see Bachchan Sr. assaulting him to the extent that you can call him getting *criminally* wasted out there. But point noted.
KM: Open up your windows, this has happened to actors infinitely superior to you.
Such as who? Osama Bin Laden? Saddam Hussein? Mangal Pandey? Manmohan Singh? Boutros Boutros Ghali? Tell us who, in which part of the world, is *infinitely* superior to Amitabh Bachchan? If you can prove it, we promise to send you a bottle of urine quality, free (ie very inexpensive), chilled complimentary wine.
First Bhootnath was Above Average by BOI … certainly not flop by any standard !!
There are two major reason for its sequel :
1. They had great script in hand.
2. First Bhoothnath has very good following among kids, Moserbeer earned good amount on DVD sales and T-series knew this.
First Bhootnath was no way a RESOUNDING flop. It was below average to average with a RESOUNDING following on the TV with kiddies loving it. This one looks more universal and for once gives Amitabh and Boman Irani a good stage ..looking forward to it.
first bhootnath was above average, although opening was lukewarm but picked upe film being from monday…bhootnath return looks o.k.,bomey irani will save it from flop..
Promo has received very good response so far … 2.21 Lakh views in less than 24 hour and 2600+ likes … In comparison Satyagarah had only 5 Lakhs views in first 15 days with just 1000+ likes. Comments pouring in to video also 99% positive ..
though kids can’t make it without adults! But I do agree that you can’t get more than a relatively modest gross with this subject unless the first film has had more of an afterlife than we think. It has been popular on TV so it has more currency than just the theatrical returns would suggest but one nonetheless has to be realistic here. I think a well-made film could do a lot more than 30.
Off-topic: Any HNIs wanting their trading accounts (min. 1 cr margin) to be serviced to the tune of 4% monthly return – may like to check up with me 🙂 F&O and Comm. are meant to be minting money 🙂
Just saw the trailer.. feel good factor is definitely there.. i would not be surprised if it’s collection surprises everyone.. my thinking says it should make somewhere around 50-60 cr given the factor it it be summer holiday release.
Satyam I am missing your write-ups on bachchan movies .. I have an idea .. Can you come up with piece on your theatrical going experience of Amitabh movies .. I am presuming you saw most of 80’s and some of 70’s movies in theater … 🙂
So in first 24 hour .. 2.2 Lakhs views and 1000+ likes … and in next 24 hours 7.12 Lakhs views and 4100+ likes … Hope such significant jump and fantastic trend will show at BO as well .. 🙂
50 Crore would be even less than what Bhoothnath earned in 2008 .. looking at inflation. 70-80 is minimum target to tag a success .. looking at promo, this much should be achievable.
Nothing ew here. The problem with this song is Amitabh is doing same kinds of dancs steps which he has been doing from past.Plus there is no change in his looks as this white beard and lens have become boring now.He should try something new with his looks at least.
You have to live with these looks Samar .. he can not get younger now. Song is entertaining and evident from number of Likes it received. I am completely addicted to this ….
Vijay, it is not about Srk or Salman but my point is how long one can see Bachchan in that same look.Lets take the case of Rajni here. He has experimented with his looks more when he crossed 60. Bachchan on the other hand has restricted himself to same kind of get up barring Paa. So, here my point is that he can also experiment with his looks like Rajni and can be deliver more impactful performances..
ya,ya whatever, why is people always find something missing when bachan makes afilm, what is up with the people, finding faults, expectation,e has to be diiferent and whe tries something different ,oh it does not suit him because he is too old, just leave him alone and as I said samar go and bug srk or sallu.
What a journey from Do Anjaane (Luk Chup Luk Chup Jao Na) to Bhoothnath Returns (Party to banati hai) .. bachchan songs with kids have 100% chartbuster record. This song will be a huge hit and will play important role in opening of movie.
Okayish song but Bachchan is absolutely awesome. If one were to compare him at this age to his colleagues (Dharmendra, Khanna and even hollywood actors his age), all of them pale in comparison to Bachchan right now. Energy, screen presence and everything of Bachchan is greater than all of them.
cannot beleive some of the comments above, someone said if rajni film be released same time bachan will be screwed then the quote says he was not big in the south,so why bother commenting as if you know everthing, film will be sucess on its merit and if rajni, srk, salman films have contention then it will be a flop so back to basics if bhootnath returns has no joy then it will be a flop but it does not matter if rajni film is releasing same time….god we are in 21st century and the views are like 19th century..bet whoever commented above has not seen it yet
You seems to have taken my ‘screw’ comment quite literally. Are you seriously telling me B2 will not face trouble because of a Rajnikanth film releasing in Madras at the same time? Do you even understand the south-style fanaticism? People have slept on railway tracks and doused themselves with fire because they couldn’t get tickets for a Rajnikanth or Chiranjeevi or major stars’ film down south. And this fellow down south is bigger than any of these. Even all the AVENGERS put together would tremble in front of Rajnikanth. I have been PRIVY to discussion among the fans – they feel it is their MORAL BOUND duty to make their idol’s movie a super-hit. During my MS here I have seen students from Madras/TN skipping their exams at the cost of their grades and driving 10 hours on a rented big-ass van because they HAD to catch a Rajnikanth film the first day’s show. [In some older comment I think I had mentioned my ‘experience’ of screening HUM at my University]. And I am not talking of cycle-rickshaw drivers in front of Madras Central here. I am talking of people that are doing MS/PhD in the US. This might sound like one of those jokes but yes, even God does choose to stay away from any events on the day a Rajnikanth movie releases in Madras.
Amitabh’s B2 is facing this kind of tsunami in Madras. And you think B2 will prevail? Firstly, B2 hardly is something that everyone is waiting for with bated breath for and secondly, AB is hardly the audience magnet – commerce-wise – that he was during his hey-time. This has NO bearing on the ‘quality’ or ‘talent’ per-se. But the fact of the hysteria of an ‘event.’
I don’t think you realize that the WWW/blogosphere has given rise to many ‘agendas’. Somebody out here commented that GG flopping would be a good thing so that QUEEN gets more screens or something and makes money. And this is Hi-fi. Can you imagine what would the thinking be in a film-culture where people kill themselves if they don’t get tickets for a first day show of their idol? Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Dr. Rajkumar, Chiranjeevi, MGR – these are NOT MERE actors but quite literally, someone standing between God and themselves for their fans.
And the events I talked about have happened in the 21st century.
And before somebody attacks me as an AB-hater, let me re-iterate that I am the biggest fan of Bachchan still alive – bigger than even Satyam; of course Satyam obviously knows and writes wayyy better but there it is. Sorry Satyam – couldn’t resist..LOL
** film will be sucess on its merit **
Really? If this were true, Guru Dutt wouldn’t have killed himself and Raj Kapoor wouldn’t have made BOBBY and Highway and DI would have made more than the pittance they made in proportion to their ‘merit.’
Says Lajmi, “Why do I get the feeling that any biopic on Guru Dutt uncle would focus on his relationship with Waheeda aunty? Everyone thinks he committed suicide because of her. But this is not true. Guru uncle and Waheeda aunty parted ways in 1958. He committed suicide in 1964. So if Bhavna Talwar intends to shoot the film from the perspective of the romantic link-up then I’m afraid my cousin Tarun Dutt (Guru Dutt’s son) would take legal action.” –
BR is certainly first movie after PAA which is looking fresh and positive … it was complete let down period after Paa, if not content wise completely then BO wise at least. Amitabh is getting very old .. but his energy level still as high as before.
I wish to see him doing BHTB sequel as well, this was superb fun .. and I am sure sequel will do better job at BO. I frequently see/listen parts of this movie in car while commuting to office. Satyam .. try to see this clip for 2-3 days while driving .. with volume up, you will experience and explore many other details which we otherwise miss .. 🙂
Ek Villain is a love story from the Director of Ashiqui 2.
Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Shraddha Kapoor, this romantic thriller is set to release on 27th June 2014.
Vijay sahb, where is the buzz? I don’t see any. Keep your expectations very low otherwise disappointment factor will be huge for you. My source has told me that this film is boring like hell, so please don’t judge anything from promos.
Amitabh Bachchan also confirmed that he will star in Bejoy Nambiar’s next, which is a story about a chess player. The film will be produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has earlier worked with the actor in 2007 film ‘Eklavya: The Royal Guard’.
“Yes, I am in that film. Farhan (Akhtar) is playing the lead. Vidhu is producing. I am happy to be working with Bejoy, who is a very promising young director. It is the story about a chess player,” he said, without divulging further details.
bhootnath is releasing at the wrong time,it will have an impact on election.
The film previews looks good but will it do well, who knows.
I will be going to cinema to watch this weekend.
