The trailer actually looks quite solid, Salman should have postponed to Bakrid.

      Any projections, Shivaay?

  2. RADHE – WANTED 2

So, Salman Khan was in talks for Wanted 2 with Prabhu Deva with Boney Kapoor until Arjun Kapoor made it official with Malaika Arora and Salman banned them from his group. So, what does Salman do? Shelve the movie? No. He produces it by calling it character’s name from Wanted – Radhe and then very boldly writes – your MOST WANTED bhai beneath.

It is so clear that its Wanted 2 with same director but just the producer is kicked out. I don’t see Boney Kapoor ever trying to engage in fight with Salman over this issue. Wanted 2 is here with name of Radhe!

Will it sell? A lot may sell currently given people’s circumstances. For people with choices this is very repetitive, looks dated, dialogues awful. I would only watch for Disha! 🙏

Also Salman’s age is showing. 12 years can do a lot. Wanted was different, feels ages ago. Nothing fresh here.

Holidays especially the one like christmas/new year where kids are out of school for 10 days and there’s a festive mood for good 10 days and add 3 weeks of clean run, how does that not help a film that is good???

Yes I agree a good film will benefit from holidays etc. But it’s a good film. It’s like it’s reward for being a good film.
Bigger bonuses get paid to people who deserve it – they worked hard, delivered on their promise etc. It’s simply how the world works.

  7. Manmohan Desai’s crass overrated 70s entertainers are in a big way responsible for the rise of junkie b grade film makers like Rohit Shetty & Prabhu Deva in Hindi cinema. Nome of them show the flair & narrative fluidity of a Prakash Mehra or Yash Chopra who gave us classic memorable masala templates like Zanjeer, Deewar, MKS, Trishul, Laawaris, Chandni, Lamhe & Silsila.

    Like

    • Why wasn’t than everyone able to create success that Desai did? I’m from that era. There were many producer/director who tried to use same formula and failed miserably during that era.

Desai didn’t give rise to makers like rohit or prabhudeva. How are their films even remotely similar to Desai?

Which one of Rohit or Prabhudeva film are similar to Desai films like Challia, Roti, Dharam Veer, Amar Akbar Anthony, Aa gale lag ja, Parvarish, Naseeb, etc…

You’re probably looking at his tailend last couple films and judging based on that.

Yes, Desai films were little loony but he was master at making fast paced films with all kind of masala and not let you off hook. He created a world that people got sucked into from the first scene to the last. From late 60s to early 80s. Yes, after Coolie (even that was little off) it was down hill for desai but up to Naseeb, it was great.

      Liked by 1 person

      • Loony masala films is what i’m referring to. Farah & Sajid Khan have repeatedly confessed to taking inspiration from him. They might not have garnered the same success but attempting to recreate mindless content itself is a disaster recipe. AAA, Naseeb, Coolie, Suhaag, Toofan are few of the most embarrassing films of AB in the 70s-80s era in my opinion.

        Like

        • Have you actually watched Desai films? It’s a disgrace to even suggest that what sajid khan makes is even remotely same as what Desai had made. farah understood some masala elements that she had applied to MHN and OSO.

And you’re lumping AAA, Naseeb, Suhaag with Toofan.

I think you fix a position and then just generalize everything around it to suit your point.

That’s kind of like saying yash chopra is a bad film maker who made films bad films like silsila and jab tak hain jaan. When in fact, silsila and jthj are nowhere near same film.

But at least you’re not playing favorite, you’re consistent in calling just about everything in bollywood as crap…

By the way, AAA was the film that started the real super stardom for AB. This film made him an all rounder.

          Like

        • Anyone remotely following AB would know it was Zanjeer & Deewar that brought the angry young man persona on screen. These films elevated him to superstar status well before AAA. If you’re talking about comedy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s far superior Chupke Chupke gave the audience ample hint of his acting range. Crediting a silly film like AAA for ABs superstardom is misguiding. Its Desai who gained out of casting AB in AAA. Not the other way round.

          Like

        • You don’t really have to be an AB follower to know that Janzeer and Dewaar gave angry young man image to AB.

I don’t think you lived thru or were old enough when AAA released to know what kind of impact it had on hindi land and movies made after it. reading article online is one thing and actually living thru it is very different.

        • Well yes I wasn’t born yet but if the post AAA commercial Hindi cinema has anything to go by, I’m sure the effects of that senseless movie were disastrous and horrendous in equal measure. Especially considering the 80s were the worst ever decade in commercial entertainment and the 90s had imbecile family dramas and the lesser spoken about the post Ghajini/Wanted age of Hindi cinema, the better. Despite being born slightly later than the 70s, give me the 60’s and early 70’s commercial Hindi cinema anyday over the Manmohan Desai and his prodigies rubbish. Fyi I do not read media journals. I feel they give too much weightage to garbage film makers like Desai, Ghai, Barjatya, Johar and Rakesh Roshan (lived through the era of all except Desai).

    • Silsila, Chandni and Lamhe were masala?

      • Any movie being a cocktail of different genres is a masala film even if one genre might be the more dominant over the others. Chennai Express is a comedy masala film while Singham is an action masala film, they both are masala films nevertheless. Masala genre is not a specific defined genre like the rest. Even Hirani films are masala films courtesy their melodramatic commercial elements.

        Like

        • But what multiple genres are present in these three? It’s straightforward romantic melodrama. Just because they have a few comedy scenes doth make them masala.

  13. Laxmii Is Outright BLOCKBUSTER on Satellite
    Thursday 22 April 2021 10.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Laxmii confirmed its BLOCKBUSTER status on satellite as it recorded a record third screening of 1 crore plus impressions. Only Bahubali – The Conclusion has managed a 1 crore plus number on its third screening. Laxmii had a huge premiere but they way its holding is pretty insane especially as the content of the film looked mainly for Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Central belt.

The film did not get a theatrical release but got big numbers on digital but its these satellite numbers which confirm the acceptance of the public for the film. A lot was said about the film mainly in a negative way but the public is watching the film in a big way. At the time of release there was no theatrical to counteract the negativity but now satellite has put the record straight.

The film is on par with Housefull 4 after three screenings and Housefull 4 is the biggest outright Hindi blockbuster (not counting the Bahubali films) on satellite in recent times . Below are the figures for first three screenings of Housefull 4 and Laxmii. The number is the impressions which is basically the number of television sets which viewed the film.

    Laxmii

    1st 2,51,44,000

    2nd – 71,80,000

    3rd – 1,01,12,000

    TOTAL – 4,24,36,000

    Housefull 4

    1st – 2,15,42,000

    2nd – 1,32,26,000

    3rd – 77,93,000

      6. OTT record for 200,000 new subscribers for Disney
      7. No 1 ranking in Ormax since 3 years
      8. Highest advertisement time on televisio
      9. Queue of directors and producers with 16 projects on offer every month since last 2 years

Anything half decent will be lapped up in home and phones by everyone in such depressing times. Even Laxmii did well on digital and satellite. There shud have been more big budget releases since Tanhaji in the paid per view format. Instead Bollywood producers have been postponing the films indefinitely.

Revenue from paid per view may not be same as theatrical business from pre-covid days. But considering all the revenue streams available, producers and OTT giants can easily sail through with decent profits in paid per view format.

Salman shud get some claps for going first with the paid per view format. If it does okay, i am sure Sooryavanshi and 83 will follow.

Sooryavanshi cud have done so on 30th april. But chose not to, and is playing the waiting game for longer than Radhe.

        • I only showed the torch to you when you claimed (knowing that theatres are closed ) that this last resort decision to save face by salman is actually clap worthy.

          😀 😀

The song is not that bad. It has less noise. Disha has Madhuri’s smile.

      • Agree about the song, it’s the EDM, party type song that people enjoy these days. KRK’s just trolling for the heck of it.

        “Disha has Madhuri’s smile.”
        Sacrilege!!!

  26. I think for couple of years we shouldn’t be talking about box office collections of any movies. Now it is not about movie’s strengths anymore but external factors. Radhe can collect 5 crores today and next month another movie with same screens can collect 10 crores but it doesn’t mean that is more accepted than Radhe. The conditions and people’s mindset keeps changing as we are moving along the 2nd wave and so on.

Good part is we can talk about ‘quality’ of the movies releasing now. But if we are talking about quality, we need to skip talking about Salman & Akshay movies. That makes we have nothing to talk again. Lol

    • Yeah, don’t fight over box office, instead fight over IMDb ratings now.

      • IMDb? Where Gunda has a 7.3 rating? And where user reviews are like this:
“Like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, Gunda is a symbol of Indian culture. Like them, it appeals to all people – from the age of nine to ninety, from the intellectual to the rustic. The movie combines the old Indian tradition of poetic narrative with social satire of Dr. Strangeglove, the drama of ordinary life as portrayed by Satyajit Ray , the spiritual realism of Abbas Kiriastami and the high entertainment quotient of films like Sholay. This movie describes the revenge story of Shankar. It deals with age-old issues of good vs evil. The epic movie takes into its span all issues like cause of woman oppression, heredity vs upbringing etc. This movie talks very subtly about the issues confronting the modern India. The film is full of personifications – Bulla of Khulla fame standing for laissez fare robber capitalism, Kale standing for the dark relationship between police and criminals.Pote standing for the lack of concern for one’s parents, chutiya standing for the emasculating forces . Lambu Atta stands for the compulsive lying and boasting . Ibu Hatela stands for the inordinate sexual desires. Mithun Chakravarty , acts as Shankar , the very personification of Lord Shiva, the destroyer, who destroys the evil forces. The last dialog of the film- Tera naam he Bulla , marte marte tera muha raha jaayega khula indicates the fact that when the so-called free economy will collapse, people will know its reality, its shady non-free nature ( the open mouth indicates a peep into its inside as well as transmission of actual news about self).”

Disha Patani and before, Salman Khan’s widening age gap with his leading ladies in numbers
Salman Khan has often romanced female actors 20 years younger than him whereas female actors younger than him have even essayed the role of his mother.

    • Sheeba Chaddha (born 1972) played mother to SRK (born 1966) in Raees who was romancing Mahira Khan, 18 years younger to him . Why did the press not create a ruckus then? Cause Salman is a soft target.

“We would lose money with Radhe but we are still going ahead with it”- Salman Khan
ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkCreated: May 12, 2021 – 9:00 AM IST

“We may get the lowest numbers with Radhe. It might not even cross 10-15 crores but whoever wants to be happy with this lowest number they can be happy. Some people will be happy with my lowest numbers while some people will be happy with my highest numbers. The lowest numbers are going to be Radhe. We would lose money on Radhe and box office collections are going to be almost zero but we are still going ahead with Radhe. My life’s ambition was 10 lakh rupees. It will come with nothing, it will go with nothing so whatever this is, it is much more than plus,” Salman said.
