Krish on Vikram

My few cents on Vikram which is a must must watch and closest to 5 on 5 i can give for any movie

Vikram is a superb amalgamation of style and substance and a big big feather in the cap for LK. This movie is far more complicated than Maanagaram, more gripping than Kaithi and a far edgy that the edgier portions of Master. The influence of Quentin tarantino, Mad max and Guy Ritchie is evident in many scenes but the real hero is the screenplay which is so original.

This is a drug filled rousing gangster and cop movie like nothing we have seen before. The twists and turns come regularly leading to that fabulous interval block and i really had my doubts if the movie could better that part. If anything the second half is even more gripping with amazing action stretches my favorite one being the Kill Bill inspired domestic help kinetic action set piece, immediately followed by Kamals action scenes which uses pens and paper weights as props. I cant speak more on the movie without revealing the story so will leave it at that but whatever good you hear about the movie, the actual movie is far better than that.

Fahaad is fantastic in a role of a no nonsense undercover agent and is the main role in the entire first half.

Many have compared VJSs role to his Master role. He gets the best introduction in the movie but Most of his performance is wonderfully restrained as a person who is actually worried about his own family even when he is happily killing everyone. He has worked hard on that gait and that slouched shoulders and it is only when he is under drugs the Beast of Master shows here. It is a wonderful performance which has gone unnoticed compared to the others.

It was also good to see Chemban Jose with a proper role in a commercial movie and he is very good too.

For Kamal, This is some comeback for him as a performer. It is to his credit that he gives up the complete first half to Fahaad and is content to stay in the background as the ghost. In many ways this is a big moment for Kamal loyal fans who have spent most of their life under the shadow of Rajini fans who was always the bigger ‘star’, the fact that Vikram is the biggest grosser in Tamil cinema and Kamal going all guns blazing in that rousing climax in a Stallone like avatar is something of a sweet comeback for them.

My only disappointment was Suriya in the end, somehow did not feel he fit the part specially also as Vijay Sethupatis boss who appeared like a beast gone crazy in the action scenes.

Vikram is a glorious movie and you are unlikely to see anything better than this movie this year or I dare say the next few years. It will grow on you and demand repeat viewing and is an absolute treat for cinema lovers.

Watched it, it is a good normal masala movie. Too much violence and unrealistic action.
Kamal, FF and Vijay all three are great in the movie.
If you can suspend your belief for this ( so called classic) movie, you can surely do the same for RRR .

      # MILD SPOILER ALERT

Kamal is like Indian part 2.
