This is where age comes into play. When you guys get to my age and start valuing your limited time left on this earth, you’ll not even bother watching 20 minutes. You should figure it out in first 3 to 5 minutes if it will hold your attention or not.

Watched Salaar trailer again, i think most here are underestimating it. This guy Neel knows masala, he will infuse it with all types of masala and it may be just good enough to excite just like how Animal excited (for different reasons).
The key is just getting curiosity/excitement build up before release and salaar has that going for it.
This is where Dunki is lagging because it’s a simple story and there’s no curiosity around story of the film.

But to be honest SRK fan must answer this question that Why only SRK’s name is linked with Corporate booking, Fake Collection and Media Manipulation. Few day ago i saw a clip of Aamir Khan talking to Ex editor of Filmfare Magzine. Even Aamir was talking about this. Why no one is accusing Ranbir or Animal Team for Fake collection and Corporate Booking? It is a valid question. You can’t set aside it by saying only SRK hater say this.
Let me answer. If you are asked, who’s a rich person in India? You think Ambani. Similarly, name a rich star in India. SRK. Everyone think SRK has too much money and he can do anything with money, buy media, buy PR and buy even theaters, tickets, basically anything which can be bought with ‘money’ is associated with SRK for simple perception, he’s the only loaded one.
Every star has money for such silly acts but the perception of them having ‘money’ is never with them. No one will think Ranbir is buying off folks with ‘money’. Similary, no one thinks Salman or Aamir are buying off people with money. No one will even dream Sunny Deol will do it. It’s just the money factor and nothing else. Actually for such acts, you needs very less money and basically any star who wants can buy it but they don’t have the perception of money attached to them.

Again, Archies is launchpad for Amitabha’s grandson, Sridevi’s daughter and SRK’s daughter but if the reviews are good.. everyone thinks it’s coz of SRK when it can be of anyone. No one’s really pointing out Suhana Khan and if you think, it’s Zoya Akhtar’s movie and she always get great critical acclaim always. Also, if you review it as OTT film, it’s pretty much safe and nothing to lose type of movie. If released in cinemas, the reviews would have not been same as it has no chance of running in theaters with nothing for masses.
Zoya has made 4 movies(Luck by Chance, ZNMD, Dil Dhadke Do and Gully Boy) and none of them are bad and I doubt this is bad and for OTT, reviews hardly matter. If folks have time and its easy watch they will watch it. Also this is targeted towards teen and young generation. I don’t think Zoya will make a bad film, it can’t be a great film (obviously not deep film) but it will surely not be a bad film.
When you have Netflix, Zoya as producer but imagining that SRK’s is sending money for all 2 rupees reviewers to get positive reviews, Lol. It’s a OTT release, Suhana is already going to start her next movie with SRK, if anything Amitabh’s grandson should be worried about it’s impact as he’s a male star and much will ride on him in future.
This is the exact reason, Aryan Khan is debuting as director when everyone is so twisted and even if one deserves they will not get credit. Directing is a hard job and it’s not like producing. Writing and directing is the most creative debut one can do in film business today. He maybe good or bad but that’s the path he has taken for now.
Coming back to Animal. Remember this was to clash with Gadar 2 during Independence Day. Folks said, bach gaye Animal infront of Gadar2 wave. But ideally if had released, Gadar2 would have not become such huge blockbuster and Animal is targetting the youth and masses more than Gadar2. Maybe interiors Gadar2 would have done well but no way it would have done 500 crs with Animal as competition.

I saw Raniganj first and that was like a TV movie in terms of production and dialogue delivery. I was just bad mouthing through out..
Then put Archies..It is kiddish in tone but there is structure to it. If you haven’t read Archies then I think it is tolerable. And that is the case with me. I was near mid mark and then got distracted..Not sure I am going to finish it as the story is pretty evident and I am not going to invest another hour in sub par version of Pleasantville..
You need certifications from Rgv now? I know it makes more sense than crackpot lol-worthy oldies quoting Krk, but really pretty boy’s just either a lover boy or a brat. Even naming him in the same sentence as Vicky Kaushal is a farce.
Art is subjective. You may find Vicky kaushal superlative, which he is in Sam Bahadur and I too agree. But Ranbir in Animal is out of the world. He creates terror just by is acting. Haven’t see Animal yet. Heard there are actually 2-3 fight scenes. Still he rendered Intensity and terror through his eyes and body language.
Lol, why are you even discussing the performance without watching it and with the ones who watched it. I too was very excited for Animal seeing the trailers and went premiere day with double price tickets. Why would I be faking my disappointment at some sections of movie and performance range getting overblown by media.
Your appreciation of Ranbir’s performance by giving example as his height is funny. I remember when Dhoom 2’s performance was praised to skies for Hrithik and he sweeped all awards. It’s like saying no villain was as handsome as Hrithik in Dhoom 2 and no one has blue eyes like him and no one has 6 fingers like him, so no one can do that role apart from Hrithik. Sahi hai bhai…
Again twisting. I said Ranbir did great and sweep all awards but I think Ranveer & Shahid could also do it if given this chance. The character is designed very well by the director and it needs few type of actors, stars to carry. It’s not a role only Ranbir can do it and no one else can’t do it. Maybe it won’t be as big hit if others do it but that has nothing to do with performance.
I still believe none, other then, Ranbir Kapoor was fit for this Role. Shahid Kapoor is short. The way Ranbir walks with his Sikh bodyguards, is Royal and Imposing. I can’t imagine Shahid there. As far as Ranveer Singh is conserned. He might be. But then he looks cheap nd chichora.

The year 2023 has been a golden year for Bollywood. Last year when so many predicted dark days for Bollywood. Hindi movies made a super strong comeback.
Also, this year three actors have given their highest-grossing movies SRK, Sunny Deol and Ranbir Kapoor. With Dunki to come every likelihood Hindi movies will complete the year strong.

We also had Kerala story, OMG2, Dreamgirl, 12th fail, TJMM, Fukrey3 which did decent business. A great year for bollywood with probably the best December in history with what animal is doing and dunki still to come. Salaar, a south film but will do great business in hindi as well.
I am not talking about Bajirao Mastani and Padmawat. I am talking about in a role where actor needs to go over the top. In intense role a always find Ranveer Singh great. Lootera and his acting in it will remain always in my Top 10 best film and greatest acting. For me and I am not talking about Evey one. In every month or two I revisit Lootera.

Audience wouldn’t care as long they are getting entertained and wouldn’t understand the impact of such films. All south Indian type masala flicks are coming to Hindi where leading lady is just a toy and a tool for abuse or revenge.
Do you know what Cigarette and those pan masala are doing to people? Between the two, it’s killing over 100,000 people each year in just India, yet, do you see company not making them or government doing anything about it? How is it not banned?
You can apply same logic to sugar and other food items which could be taken in excess (read excess calories) to cause issue later down in life.
It is important people are taught and made aware of risks. In end you got one life, live the way you want if it is not affecting others.

ps1 – If your habits are causing medical issues, you probably should pay more at hospital in terms of copayment and deductibles (like car insurance). health and costs are a slippery slope.

My father had developed diabetes in 1985 and is able to manage diabetes via meds, he is still consuming sugar daily in some form (of course not in excess).
If he had cancer in 1985 due to chewing tabacco/pan masala, i don’t think he would have survived this long while still consuming pan masala daily.
Well , i completed Archies…found it bland and play like but not unwatchable..the set design and cinematography is very good..some songs are very good too and nicely done..the dance pieces are quite well done too…..it probably needed more drama. In that sense it is largely true to the books..what it does surely is evoke some nostalgia..felt good hearing those names we knew..the kids aren’t bad too…agastya dances so well…there was nothing much for him to act but some conversation between him and juggie was nicely written..Khushi surprisingly had nothing much to do..in many ways like betty she played second fiddle..suhana did well..danced well and was not too bad in that one scene with her dad which was probably time ther ewas some drama in the whole movie..for some reason she was thrusting her bosom on the camera in the first half..not sure if intentional ๐ Reggie was very good..I heard he has got a movie now with Alia..
All in all the movie is like n Archies post card..good to look you may remember it for 2 houes but unlikely to ever revisit it again…if you are not curious about star kids or never read Archies skip it. If you have read a lot of Archies, you won’t mind it just to hear those names like weatherbee, archiekins, aunt Grundy etc.
Pretty much similar thoughts. I completed it and it’s very light movie with no heavy drama and works fine for a movie based on comics ..like how Hiram turns in the end is like comics end. All the bad guys are also bad only at one level and very cartoon comic look. Agastya dances so well in VA VA Voom. There could have been better songs. Suhana and Khushi did good, Suhana is better is drama scenes whereas Khushi in light scenes. Agastya is good but lacks screen presence. That guy who played Reggie had the most screen presence and did great. Overall, okayish movie, for what it was promised. Nothing like to criticize like the haters who think it’s Nepo film, let’s talk trash about it.
Suhana tried too hard to give a measured performance. The pressure on her was palpable.
Her act came across as uneven and unnatural. Donโt know if anyone else felt that way.
Agastya is a pretty boy but a long way to go for him.

It won’t cover the gap…the gap will again widen on day 11 as that was Sunday for jawan and Monday for animal..
One thing that’s going to happen from now is srk will never release a movie on a Friday… Thursday release works better for him as it becomes a 4 day weekend…first gadar and now animal both have collected better but trail due to that extra week day on day 1..
Dunki overseas is excellent for the genre for srk or any genre for other actors..still 12 days to go…but looks like a huge opening in overseas is loading

Animal numbers in context of length of movie and it’s A certificate are remarkable. Dunki will stop any hope of chasing down Jawan. But Animal will probably be upto 500Cr all India by then. So 5 possible 500Cr+ in one calendar. It’s more like what Bollywood should be delivering IMO consistently.
Some star’s Touchy fan may feel offended but earlier Gadar and now Animal have shown that 500 Cr is not THAT BIG Himalayan Task. Gadar with the just support of Single screen and Animal with the support of just Male audiences is going past 500 Cr. Ok may be in some places girl are going for the film but still majority of women/girl segment is out of Animal catchment area. Still doing this sort of business. I mean no women audiences, no family audiences. Still it is running riots in across the country. Earlier I saw this video where BOI said only Gadar and Animal are Mass blockbuster in truest sense. Now after watching Animal’s 2nd Friday buisness,I agree with this video. I think after week 2, Animal will be neck to neck with Jawan. But without Family and women audiences support how far it will go will be the question. Especially when you have only 20 day window. Still whatever Animal has done so far is nothing less then miracle.

Yes. It’s strange for me also. First weekend there was immense craze for Animal among Telugu chads. This movie is perfect for South people, especially Telugu and Kannada with Alpha male story. Don’t know why the craze died so fast.
The fact that BOIs calling 4 ATBBs in a single year is a joke on the term of an ATBB itself. Its a term used for 2-3 films in a decade, not in a year. None of these 4 ATBBs have footfalls even at par with Sultan’s 3.2 Cr.

Jawaan was 125 Cr hindi 2nd week. I don’t think Animal will collect over that in 2nd weekend itself. Friday is 21.5 Cr + Sat early estimate is 36 Cr = 57.5 CR.

Aly Khan, that actor who played Suhana Khan’s father role in Archies, is saying that all the actors done 1 year acting workshop before the film. It shows how tough is to be a good actor. Even after doing one year acting workshop they have done such horrible acting. I always believe every actor should speak in Hindi within his/her household. Otherwise their children speak hindin in English language. On mistake SRK done regarding Suhana is he chooses wrong role for Suhana. She was not fit for the role. Even if they wanted then she could have been chosen Betty’s role. No way she was looking like Veronica. I am not commenting on her look but people are making fun of her dark colour. They are saying SRK done fairness cream’s ad but forgot it apply on his family. Suhana is not a conventional looking girl. SRK mush choose role according to her features. Ranbir is a rare star in the Hindi movie industry who is also a good actor. He has done comedy, romance, drama and action now. Further, his offscreen personality has a charm, similar to SRK. He is surely going to become the biggest star after Khans.
Either operating in eve teaser playboy mode or as a complete brat with privileged upbringing. Both an extension of his real life personality. He’ll get schooled if he ever comes aside the real actors (like he did in Sanju).
India is still only country where we are so color and look oriented..I remember when Kajol debuted the exact same type of maod servant comments had surfaced .and when devgan debuted i remember people calling him a hermophrodite..this was a non social media age but still the words were loud to be heard. Neither were lookers nor great in their first movies nor were there fair…but we would have been poorer without either of them…
I understand most of India having that mindset but the so-called educated folks are using it online and they have no shame at all. Besides, servants or help person is also respectable job and not something to be scoffed at. I remember even handyman here who comes to do our works like our Indian food and always likes to take something from our house and we make something for him always. At least living in US, that thought process of fair or dark is not the topic of discussion at all and glad for that.

Bought ticket for Animal afternoon show. Went to morning walk till the theatre and show crowd even for morning show. In lift we were 9 person with 4 girls in the lift. Ofcourse some girls were with their boyfriend. Then in ticket window saw some girl and boys who would have been barely above 18. Backseats are all full. For Morning as well as afternoon show. IMO this film is not going to slow atleast till 21 December. Monday will be north of 15+
Not sure of the classification marcus…There were only 13 movies which did 300cr anyways..so that is anyways an exclusive set…I don’t see how these movies can be called superhit when the 300cr were called blockbusters…we have had 4 industry hits one breaking other..it’s not diff from 4 300crs one breaking other and dangal ending on top of pile…dangal is a superhit ? When has industry started giving classifications based on footfalls? ..we have clearly had 4 blockbusters and jawaan is clearly an all time blockbuster at 650crs….sultan and Sanju were not superhits..we have had 1 movie with 7cr footfalls 2 with 5 cr footfalls in last 30 years…so it’s not like movies were doing 3crs footfalls anyways…there is nothing bad about clocking 3cr footfalls when only 14 odd movie did 300crs no?
I think it is a bit about an assessment after seeing the box office play out. A genuine ATBB would probably hold a record for at least a couple of years+. It’s no slight on what films have done this year. So even Ghajini is not in 3 Idiots stratosphere. D3/PK too. BB2’s Hindi business has been beaten thrice this year and might go 2 more times so there is some validation that certain norms have recalibrated.
Jawan’s record will stay as I don’t see Animal getting there but Animal is more lengthy and more polarised film – the extreme/edgy films are pushing boundaries unlike before.
As ‘star’ wars go it’s SRK’S year by a monumental distance. No other star came close to 3 back to back huge industry high blockbusters (I assume Dunki will be there or thereabouts) in such short span (recently) but the new ‘normal’ has shifted. Can’t say 500 is the new 300. Firstly I don’t recall Salman or Aamir or Hrithik delivering 3 back to back 300Cr+ in first place. SRK is guaranteed to deliver 3 200Cr+ in one year (Dunki would have to be a disaster not to do 200Cr). So either srk is doing 3 b2b 300Cr+ or 400Cr+ or 500Cr+ but nobody’s even done 3 300Cr+. Salman did Kick/BB/Prdp/sultan as 4 b2b 200Cr+ but that spanned 2 years.
Plus factor in the overseas market and this run is unmatched.
So Jawan’s numbers will be in sight for a few films in reality but which star can actually elipse the number. Really don’t see anybody but SRK at moment. Animal will fall short but what a performance from a long A certificate film to even end up in the mix.
Super hits in FI or lay man terms. The non box office follower does not distinguish between a Super Hit & a BB. All these films mentioned are BBs or Mega BBs or whatever but I don’t see any genuine ATBB since BB2 in Hindi.
One can have as much money as possible, but you cant escape your genes. If your genetic makeup is sh**tty, you will produce ugly and worthless kids no matter what. Irony of life.
So family then have only 1 option…that’s not a good thing for salaar..it doesnt have Ranbir not a good trailor to overcome such hurdles specially for a front loaded action movie
I remember the posters were supposed to have A in a circle of Adults only but I don’t see any promotion of Adults certificate for Animal and neither for Salaar. How would a normal person be aware if they don’t read social media? What’s the point of such certificates?
Today animal advance is 2.9cr..friday was 5 cr..would be interesting to see if it can stay above jawaan total of 14cr…it was 12th day of jawaan…11th for animal..
Telugu version is same as Jawan which is very disappointing.

Today seems like 50% of Thursday as per BMS. So 10 to 11 crs. I think Pathaan can be crossed. Jawaan depends on Xmas release and probbaly not possible anyways.
It has trended same as Jawan. It just appear better bcos of the 1 day lag it has to Jawaan. Second Sunday will be 35cr, Jawaan Second Sunday was around same and that was Day 11. But for a movie With A tag and 3.5hrs Lenght to match Jawan is remarkable.
The new term which public remembers are term as super success is 500 crores. If it does 500 crores, which it will do, that’s more than enough. I said it during Jawan & Pathaan as well, more than the ATG term, the common public is referring as 500 crs or 1000 crs success. Animal might fall short of 1000 crs.
So, four 500 crs this year and two 1000 crs so far.
This is what i said on Friday when people said its catching up on Jawan. The 1 day lag gives wrong picture always. That has always kept Jawaan ahead and Animal is just making up for it on other days..Now Second Sunday jawaan would be ahead of Animal Sunday and I think it is going to go below the Second Monday of Jawan today. Also Second Sunday didnt grow for Animal, Telugu version is almost done and that is some indicator (plus BMS trend) that catching Pathaan wont be straightforward though its possible visavis catching Jawan..Guess there is some ceiling for A rated films too. Anyways it has done spetacular business for kind of movie it is and with a clash.
The ceiling should have hit quite early, I’m surprised it dragged it till this long. But eventually, it did open some business prospects and folks will try such movies in future without worrying about rating. I remember, Grand Masti with full on Adult certificate did 100 crores in 2013 and Animal is not that bad Adult content and I see many kids also in the cinemas (including my show) which I mentioned earlier as well that there is no mention of Adults rating anywhere on the movie or promotions.

Yes, extended cameo in Rajni’s film and full film as well. If extended cameo is great and needs 15-20 days, SRK might do it just to be in same movie as Rajni + Amitabh and also test LK.
There is nothing similar about Pathaan, Jawan and Animal.
I have not seen it but couple girls at work who had seen it last week, said it’s a pretty sick film in many ways.
So we had people who had trouble with deepika in orange color bikini but are perfectly okay with how bobby behaves with those women and how they’re shown getting abused?
Not only that but making it look like it’s cool and acceptable.
Many were excited that Vanga wants to work with SRK and were excited to see this combo prior to Animal’s release. After the release, no one’s looking forward to this collab and neither SRK will work with SVR kinda director.

Not sure if anyone (here or in the reviewing junta) has opined on the metaphorical depiction of Punjabi history thru SRV’s lens. The coincidence of a Punjabi family tree, where one branch (Prem Chopra’s) is Sikh, the second branch (Suresh Oberoi) is Hindu, and the third branch (of the referred to 3rd brother) is Muslim. The Hindu (vaaniya as commonly pejoratively addressed in Punjabi) stays true to his capitalist leanings and sets up a business empire. The Sikh wants nothing to do with it, but will absolutely protect the Hindu for both familial as well as a certain religious requirement. Amazingly, all of this has been conceptualized by a Southern director who has now made Punjabi-themed 2 epics. Venga Reddy must surely have had these influences from somewhere previously in his life.

Tarantino flicks like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds etc have very well written female characters, unlike Vanga Reddy films whose female characters are as pointless as orange bikinis & their obsessions (Shraddha pulled off the pink one equally well in Jhooti Makkar without the mindless hype & publicity gimmicks).

Not possible. If Dunki collects 1 million, will Salaar collect 5 million? I don’t think so. Yes, the craze is out of the world but that would be too for single day collection. Maybe 3 to 3.5 million.
Salaar is also releasing full on Dec 21, infact more shows than Dunki but Salaar shows are being called premiere and are 3 times the price of regular movie. If it’s releasing before India release, they call it premiere and then give the day 1 collection combining Dec 21 + Dec 22 as Opening day collection combining with India and Worldwide as some 250 crores or something.
I would be happy if it matches Pathaan as that itself was huge for it’s time and other South films with premiers are not right comparison. If it does as well as Pathaan being not front loaded film, it’s more than enough. Many will watch it over the weekend as Christmas is on Monday. So, it’ll have 5 day weekend Thu – Mon.
It will easily go past Gadar2 and Pathaan too at the rate it’s going.
I thought it would have gone past Jawan easily based on first few days but it has slowed down now. Not sure it will keep the pace to go past Jawan.

BMS for south Indian movies is not organic. Leo was 2 million, Adipurush was over a million as well. Yes, comparison with Dunki with other Hindi movies is apt. It’ll end up around 350-400 which gives it around 35-40 crs opening on weekday release which is the right expectations at this stage for a non action movie.

Z, I liked Pathaan more. Jawan was also okay (more tolerable in second watch). Both were passable for the genres and turned out exactly as intended. No rocket science there. Wouldn’t want to revisit any of them, even on a bad day.
I think at the start of the year, I had mentioned that from Pathaan and Jawan I’m mostly expecting sure shot commercial success with good reviews in that genre and I think it has done very well to fit in that criteria. With Dunki, I have more expectations from critical point of view along with boxoffice success. Besides, if the movies were not good, they wouldn’t have done the business of Pathaan or Jawan and to keep repeating by some folks here who behaves like Pathaan is like some Adipurush or Thugs and it just somehow became hit is foolish and not honest opinion. As simple as that. Movies don’t gross 1050 or 1150 crs without being loved by the audience across the board. If the movies does very well at the boxoffice, the only point they can cry is that it’s not a good movie and critical acclaim is like zero. Enough of these games which everyone can see through from far.

Watched Salaar trailer again, i think most here are underestimating it. This guy Neel knows masala, he will infuse it with all types of masala and it may be just good enough to excite just like how Animal excited (for different reasons).
The key is just getting curiosity/excitement build up before release and salaar has that going for it.
This is where Dunki is lagging because it’s a simple story and there’s no curiosity around story of the film.

Everyone think SRK has too much money and he can do anything with money, buy media, buy PR and buy even theaters, tickets, basically anything which can be bought with ‘money’ is associated with SRK for simple perception, he’s the only loaded one.
Every star has money for such silly acts but the perception of them having ‘money’ is never with them. No one will think Ranbir is buying off folks with ‘money’. Similary, no one thinks Salman or Aamir are buying off people with money. No one will even dream Sunny Deol will do it. It’s just the money factor and nothing else. Actually for such acts, you needs very less money and basically any star who wants can buy it but they don’t have the perception of money attached to them.

Again, Archies is launchpad for Amitabha’s grandson, Sridevi’s daughter and SRK’s daughter but if the reviews are good.. everyone thinks it’s coz of SRK when it can be of anyone. No one’s really pointing out Suhana Khan and if you think, it’s Zoya Akhtar’s movie and she always get great critical acclaim always. Also, if you review it as OTT film, it’s pretty much safe and nothing to lose type of movie. If released in cinemas, the reviews would have not been same as it has no chance of running in theaters with nothing for masses.
Zoya has made 4 movies(Luck by Chance, ZNMD, Dil Dhadke Do and Gully Boy) and none of them are bad and I doubt this is bad and for OTT, reviews hardly matter. If folks have time and its easy watch they will watch it. Also this is targeted towards teen and young generation. I don’t think Zoya will make a bad film, it can’t be a great film (obviously not deep film) but it will surely not be a bad film.

Coming back to Animal. Remember this was to clash with Gadar 2 during Independence Day. Folks said, bach gaye Animal infront of Gadar2 wave. But ideally if had released, Gadar2 would have not become such huge blockbuster and Animal is targetting the youth and masses more than Gadar2. Maybe interiors Gadar2 would have done well but no way it would have done 500 crs with Animal as competition.

I saw Raniganj first and that was like a TV movie in terms of production and dialogue delivery. I was just bad mouthing through out..
Then put Archies..It is kiddish in tone but there is structure to it. If you haven’t read Archies then I think it is tolerable. And that is the case with me. I was near mid mark and then got distracted..Not sure I am going to finish it as the story is pretty evident and I am not going to invest another hour in sub par version of Pleasantville..

Art is subjective. You may find Vicky kaushal superlative, which he is in Sam Bahadur and I too agree. But Ranbir in Animal is out of the world. He creates terror just by is acting. Haven’t see Animal yet. Heard there are actually 2-3 fight scenes. Still he rendered Intensity and terror through his eyes and body language.

I too was very excited for Animal seeing the trailers and went premiere day with double price tickets. The character is designed very well by the director and it needs few type of actors, stars to carry. It’s not a role only Ranbir can do it and no one else can’t do it. The year 2023 has been a golden year for Bollywood. Last year when so many predicted dark days for Bollywood. Hindi movies made a super strong comeback.
Also, this year three actors have given their highest-grossing movies SRK, Sunny Deol and Ranbir Kapoor. With Dunki to come every likelihood Hindi movies will complete the year strong.

We also had Kerala story, OMG2, Dreamgirl, 12th fail, TJMM, Fukrey3 which did decent business. A great year for bollywood with probably the best December in history with what animal is doing and dunki still to come. Salaar, a south film but will do great business in hindi as well.

While sugar is not bad as long as it’s not used in excess.
My father had developed diabetes in 1985 and is able to manage diabetes via meds, he is still consuming sugar daily in some form (of course not in excess).
If he had cancer in 1985 due to chewing tabacco/pan masala, i don’t think he would have survived this long while still consuming pan masala daily.

Well , i completed Archies…found it bland and play like but not unwatchable..the set design and cinematography is very good..some songs are very good too and nicely done..the dance pieces are quite well done too…..it probably needed more drama. In that sense it is largely true to the books..what it does surely is evoke some nostalgia..felt good hearing those names we knew..the kids aren’t bad too…agastya dances so well…there was nothing much for him to act but some conversation between him and juggie was nicely written..Khushi surprisingly had nothing much to do..in many ways like betty she played second fiddle..suhana did well..danced well and was not too bad in that one scene with her dad which was probably time ther ewas some drama in the whole movie..for some reason she was thrusting her bosom on the camera in the first half..not sure if intentional ๐ Reggie was very good..I heard he has got a movie now with Alia..
All in all the movie is like n Archies post card..good to look you may remember it for 2 houes but unlikely to ever revisit it again…if you are not curious about star kids or never read Archies skip it. If you have read a lot of Archies, you won’t mind it just to hear those names like weatherbee, archiekins, aunt Grundy etc.

Pretty much similar thoughts. I completed it and it’s very light movie with no heavy drama and works fine for a movie based on comics ..like how Hiram turns in the end is like comics end. All the bad guys are also bad only at one level and very cartoon comic look. Agastya dances so well in VA VA Voom. There could have been better songs. Suhana and Khushi did good, Suhana is better is drama scenes whereas Khushi in light scenes. Agastya is good but lacks screen presence. That guy who played Reggie had the most screen presence and did great. Overall, okayish movie, for what it was promised. Nothing like to criticize like the haters who think it’s Nepo film, let’s talk trash about it.

Suhana tried too hard to give a measured performance. The pressure on her was palpable.
Her act came across as uneven and unnatural. Donโt know if anyone else felt that way.
Agastya is a pretty boy but a long way to go for him.

One thing that’s going to happen from now is srk will never release a movie on a Friday… Thursday release works better for him as it becomes a 4 day weekend…first gadar and now animal both have collected better but trail due to that extra week day on day 1..

Animal numbers in context of length of movie and it’s A certificate are remarkable. Dunki will stop any hope of chasing down Jawan. But Animal will probably be upto 500Cr all India by then. So 5 possible 500Cr+ in one calendar. It’s more like what Bollywood should be delivering IMO consistently.

Some star’s Touchy fan may feel offended but earlier Gadar and now Animal have shown that 500 Cr is not THAT BIG Himalayan Task. Gadar with the just support of Single screen and Animal with the support of just Male audiences is going past 500 Cr. Ok may be in some places girl are going for the film but still majority of women/girl segment is out of Animal catchment area. Still doing this sort of business. I mean no women audiences, no family audiences. Still it is running riots in across the country. Earlier I saw this video where BOI said only Gadar and Animal are Mass blockbuster in truest sense. Now after watching Animal’s 2nd Friday buisness,I agree with this video. I think after week 2, Animal will be neck to neck with Jawan. But without Family and women audiences support how far it will go will be the question. Especially when you have only 20 day window. Still whatever Animal has done so far is nothing less then miracle.

Jawaan was 125 Cr hindi 2nd week. I don’t think Animal will collect over that in 2nd weekend itself. Friday is 21.5 Cr + Sat early estimate is 36 Cr = 57.5 CR.
You’re expecting Sunday to be about 60 Cr?
If it does that, you can mark it for 700 Cr lifetime.

Aly Khan, that actor who played Suhana Khan’s father role in Archies, is saying that all the actors done 1 year acting workshop before the film. It shows how tough is to be a good actor. Even after doing one year acting workshop they have done such horrible acting. I always believe every actor should speak in Hindi within his/her household. Otherwise their children speak hindin in English language. On mistake SRK done regarding Suhana is he chooses wrong role for Suhana. She was not fit for the role. Even if they wanted then she could have been chosen Betty’s role. No way she was looking like Veronica. I am not commenting on her look but people are making fun of her dark colour. They are saying SRK done fairness cream’s ad but forgot it apply on his family. Suhana is not a conventional looking girl. SRK mush choose role according to her features. Neither were lookers nor great in their first movies nor were there fair…but we would have been poorer without either of them…

I understand most of India having that mindset but the so-called educated folks are using it online and they have no shame at all. Besides, servants or help person is also respectable job and not something to be scoffed at. I remember even handyman here who comes to do our works like our Indian food and always likes to take something from our house and we make something for him always. At least living in US, that thought process of fair or dark is not the topic of discussion at all and glad for that.

Bought ticket for Animal afternoon show. Went to morning walk till the theatre and show crowd even for morning show. In lift we were 9 person with 4 girls in the lift. Ofcourse some girls were with their boyfriend. Then in ticket window saw some girl and boys who would have been barely above 18. Backseats are all full. For Morning as well as afternoon show. IMO this film is not going to slow atleast till 21 December. Monday will be north of 15+

Not sure of the classification marcus…There were only 13 movies which did 300cr anyways..so that is anyways an exclusive set…I don’t see how these movies can be called superhit when the 300cr were called blockbusters…we have had 4 industry hits one breaking other..it’s not diff from 4 300crs one breaking other and dangal ending on top of pile…dangal is a superhit ? When has industry started giving classifications based on footfalls? ..we have clearly had 4 blockbusters and jawaan is clearly an all time blockbuster at 650crs….sultan and Sanju were not superhits..we have had 1 movie with 7cr footfalls 2 with 5 cr footfalls in last 30 years…so it’s not like movies were doing 3crs footfalls anyways…there is nothing bad about clocking 3cr footfalls when only 14 odd movie did 300crs no?

I think it is a bit about an assessment after seeing the box office play out. A genuine ATBB would probably hold a record for at least a couple of years+. It’s no slight on what films have done this year. So even Ghajini is not in 3 Idiots stratosphere. D3/PK too. BB2’s Hindi business has been beaten thrice this year and might go 2 more times so there is some validation that certain norms have recalibrated.
Jawan’s record will stay as I don’t see Animal getting there but Animal is more lengthy and more polarised film – the extreme/edgy films are pushing boundaries unlike before.
As ‘star’ wars go it’s SRK’S year by a monumental distance. No other star came close to 3 back to back huge industry high blockbusters (I assume Dunki will be there or thereabouts) in such short span (recently) but the new ‘normal’ has shifted. Can’t say 500 is the new 300. Firstly I don’t recall Salman or Aamir or Hrithik delivering 3 back to back 300Cr+ in first place. SRK is guaranteed to deliver 3 200Cr+ in one year (Dunki would have to be a disaster not to do 200Cr). So either srk is doing 3 b2b 300Cr+ or 400Cr+ or 500Cr+ but nobody’s even done 3 300Cr+. Salman did Kick/BB/Prdp/sultan as 4 b2b 200Cr+ but that spanned 2 years.
Plus factor in the overseas market and this run is unmatched.
So Jawan’s numbers will be in sight for a few films in reality but which star can actually elipse the number. Really don’t see anybody but SRK at moment. Animal will fall short but what a performance from a long A certificate film to even end up in the mix.

Today seems like 50% of Thursday as per BMS. So 10 to 11 crs. I think Pathaan can be crossed. Jawaan depends on Xmas release and probbaly not possible anyways.
It has trended same as Jawan. It just appear better bcos of the 1 day lag it has to Jawaan. Second Sunday will be 35cr, Jawaan Second Sunday was around same and that was Day 11. But for a movie With A tag and 3.5hrs Lenght to match Jawan is remarkable.

The new term which public remembers are term as super success is 500 crores. If it does 500 crores, which it will do, that’s more than enough. I said it during Jawan & Pathaan as well, more than the ATG term, the common public is referring as 500 crs or 1000 crs success. Animal might fall short of 1000 crs.
So, four 500 crs this year and two 1000 crs so far.

This is what i said on Friday when people said its catching up on Jawan. The 1 day lag gives wrong picture always. That has always kept Jawaan ahead and Animal is just making up for it on other days..Now Second Sunday jawaan would be ahead of Animal Sunday and I think it is going to go below the Second Monday of Jawan today. Also Second Sunday didnt grow for Animal, Telugu version is almost done and that is some indicator (plus BMS trend) that catching Pathaan wont be straightforward though its possible visavis catching Jawan..Guess there is some ceiling for A rated films too. Anyways it has done spetacular business for kind of movie it is and with a clash.

The ceiling should have hit quite early, I’m surprised it dragged it till this long. But eventually, it did open some business prospects and folks will try such movies in future without worrying about rating. I remember, Grand Masti with full on Adult certificate did 100 crores in 2013 and Animal is not that bad Adult content and I see many kids also in the cinemas (including my show) which I mentioned earlier as well that there is no mention of Adults rating anywhere on the movie or promotions.

I have not seen it but couple girls at work who had seen it last week, said it’s a pretty sick film in many ways.
So we had people who had trouble with deepika in orange color bikini but are perfectly okay with how bobby behaves with those women and how they’re shown getting abused?

Saw Animal over the weekend.
Not sure if anyone (here or in the reviewing junta) has opined on the metaphorical depiction of Punjabi history thru SRV’s lens. The coincidence of a Punjabi family tree, where one branch (Prem Chopra’s) is Sikh, the second branch (Suresh Oberoi) is Hindu, and the third branch (of the referred to 3rd brother) is Muslim. The Hindu (vaaniya as commonly pejoratively addressed in Punjabi) stays true to his capitalist leanings and sets up a business empire. The Sikh wants nothing to do with it, but will absolutely protect the Hindu for both familial as well as a certain religious requirement. And the Muslim here seeks vendetta for what he perceives as the unjust treatment meted out to him in reaction to his quest for a share of the empire (again harking back to Partition).
Liberals have gone to town about all the misogynistic tidbits, but will they point out on how much of said misogyny is disproportionally borne by the women in which branch of that family?
The folksong Arjan Veilly has been added in, depicting Ranbir’s character as the historical Veilly (or Vella) Punjabi folkhero who would pick up fights and was known for his brutish strength albeit charitable nature towards his village kinsmen. Just curious, how do you think the reaction would have been in india had bobby would have been shown converting to hinduism lifting saree of a women from back and abusing women?
Abuse is abuse, no matter if your wife or stranger.
Some of the clips that i see on twitter are quite disturbing.
But i guess one will be okay depending on mindset.
Being a father of 3 daughters, i can’t tolerate any kind of abuse to women/girls be it physical, mental or verbal.
Actually, male/female, doesn’t matter, no abuse is good. And then shown in some sort of cool manner and running publicity on it, some sick thinking.

Tarantino flicks like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds etc have very well written female characters, unlike Vanga Reddy films whose female characters are as pointless as orange bikinis & their obsessions (Shraddha pulled off the pink one equally well in Jhooti Makkar without the mindless hype & publicity gimmicks).

I had noticed Vanga’s take on Sharia law as the ultimate metaphor for primitive behavior among humans through Bobby’s character, but your reading is especially insightful and interesting and infuses the film with depth I did not recognize before. It would be great if Vanga gave an interview or 2 on what the film
is really about.
Even otherwise, the film is far more entertaining than junk like Jawan and Pathan.

I’m not an expert on sharia law but i don’t think it contains most of the stuff bobby character displays. Of course, vanga could have motive himself, he is pretty smart. he knew exactly who to make a villain and get away with showing what he wanted to.
Try showing a women in orange color saaree and just looking at her with wrong eye, nevermind lifting the saree from back and all that other stuff. how far would that have gone in India?
As far as what’s more entertaining, that’s subjective. Collection of Jawan and Pathaan thru out the world has proved it just like animal is.

Donโt know how many people noticed it but Housefull 4 depicts how modernity and education and the โwesternisationโ of our beliefs have made us forget our roots. From an olden era, the three principal characters (the king who acquires wealth, Akshay, the one into โa culturalโ undertaking aka Ritesh, and the kshatriya, Bobby, besides the advisor, most probably a Vaishya, aka Chunky Pandey, form strong bonds despite class and caste differences. Their 21 gen avatars arenโt known by their โbackgroundsโ but by their professions and wealth. However, despite everything they own, they ultimately have to travel back in time to find out who they really are, creating an allegory of Indiaโs rich cultural history and the coming together of different varnas to defeat a common enemy โ the outsider, a savage.

Many of us NG/SS erstwhiles are 50+ yr olds, opining on cinematic content by using our own life experiences and those of our parents/grandparents, ie the son-of-soil generations which couldn’t elucidate any of their own experiences in the Queens language. Their inability to communicate had thus ceded an entire nation’s collective historical and cultural ethos to English Educated biased Nehruvian LeLis.
Ole bwood cinema, heavily regulated in those days, was therefore largely relegated to the State’s viewpoints on all things cultural/social/historical. What we get to see in cinema nowadays, despite the LeLi misgivings of such uncensored content, are cinematic viewpoints expressing cultural/social/historical truths that cudve never gotten to see light of day in a bygone era.
We perhaps thus serve as bridges between ole and new bwood as well as the ole and new sub-continental economic/political landscape.

Salaar is also releasing full on Dec 21, infact more shows than Dunki but Salaar shows are being called premiere and are 3 times the price of regular movie. If it’s releasing before India release, they call it premiere and then give the day 1 collection combining Dec 21 + Dec 22 as Opening day collection combining with India and Worldwide as some 250 crores or something.

I would be happy if it matches Pathaan as that itself was huge for it’s time and other South films with premiers are not right comparison. If it does as well as Pathaan being not front loaded film, it’s more than enough. Many will watch it over the weekend as Christmas is on Monday. So, it’ll have 5 day weekend Thu – Mon.

My number was specific to Day 1, of course it gets tricky with Salaar is having more number of shows on Premier day then the actual day 1.
I think from day 3 on, Dunki will be higher than salaar.

It will easily go past Gadar2 and Pathaan too at the rate it’s going.
I thought it would have gone past Jawan easily based on first few days but it has slowed down now. Not sure it will keep the pace to go past Jawan.
Nonetheless, great achievement no matter how you look at it. Get ready for more of cruel movies like it in future.
Mind you, this is far worse than what you see down south in telugu movies because vanga is trying to tarnish something in perticular.

Salaar has 800k+ interested on BMS. dunki has less than 200k interests even after the trailer.
Those who are still in denial about the facts, better to let them be.
Btw Iโve lost interest in checking Dunki out about after listening to SRKโs atrocious accent in the trailer. Unless the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
Salaar not interested anyways. Watching ugly bearded faces committing murders in black and white frames is not my idea of entertainment.

BMS for south Indian movies is not organic. Leo was 2 million, Adipurush was over a million as well. Yes, comparison with Dunki with other Hindi movies is apt. It’ll end up around 350-400 which gives it around 35-40 crs opening on weekday release which is the right expectations at this stage for a non action movie.

Z, I liked Pathaan more. Jawan was also okay (more tolerable in second watch). Both were passable for the genres and turned out exactly as intended. No rocket science there. Wouldn’t want to revisit any of them, even on a bad day.

I think at the start of the year, I had mentioned that from Pathaan and Jawan I’m mostly expecting sure shot commercial success with good reviews in that genre and I think it has done very well to fit in that criteria. With Dunki, I have more expectations from critical point of view along with boxoffice success. Besides, if the movies were not good, they wouldn’t have done the business of Pathaan or Jawan and to keep repeating by some folks here who behaves like Pathaan is like some Adipurush or Thugs and it just somehow became hit is foolish and not honest opinion. As simple as that. Movies don’t gross 1050 or 1150 crs without being loved by the audience across the board. If the movies does very well at the boxoffice, the only point they can cry is that it’s not a good movie and critical acclaim is like zero. Enough of these games which everyone can see through from far.
