Raju is known to do that but I doubt there’s any similarity as that script rights are with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Abhijat Joshi was co-writer and now this is Red Chillies production with their in-house writer Kanika. Maybe VVC will sue Raju after realizing it’s the same script.

Srk is known to make fun of himself at such occasions and i think everybody is aware with that and only you seem to be an exception here.

SRK-VVC issues didn’t let that happen and as soon as Raju is out of VVC camp, he went to SRK again. Sometimes star just say things for effect and it simply shows how much value Hirani holds in today’s market. Samething with Alia Bhatt who actually asked SSR to cast her even if it’s a small role in RRR when she’s solo leading lady of Bhansali. Either ways, we have lot of time for this movie to release.

Excellent announcement teaser.
Had me in splits when SRK responds to the title of the movie.
SRK has been deconstructing his image which can be amusing for his fans. However it shows his willingness to do something new and wants us to be prepared and not expect 90s SRK now. A message to fans.
Dunki – interesting title. Its clashing with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan on Christmas 2023.

Not reviewed it all. Expressed a reaction. There’s a reason the teaser is out in public; for the public to consume and react. Just wrote what I felt like. If it was a good teaser, I would have said great job. This is a bad one with SRK going back to his mannerisms…Hope he does not in the movie.

Actually to defend him here, he specialises well in the self-deprecating form of humour often. I have hardly seen any other actor from the Hindi film industry who does that, for their pride and ego are above all.

No, that’s a trick he plays. He makes it appear as though he is a very innocent guy who just ‘let’ himself in the path of Yash Chopra and Adi and KJo. He is truly the shrewdest businessman-actor the industry has ever known. If Mithun with his hotels in Ooty showed a daring, SRK is in a different league altogether. The amount of investment in Dubai, the IPL, he is superb in diversifying. There’s a reason why he doesn’t need films any longer. He and his generations can live long, long enough with the intelligent way he has garnered, accumulated, and invested wealth.
And there is no self-deprecation either; in one of the TV shows, he got real angry when someone imitated him in his ‘sheep’ mannerisms…
The extending of arms began with DARR him 29 years to self-deprecate??

Lol. Someone being business savvy doesn’t make him shrewd automatically. That is pure dislike speaking for simple fact to
not comprehend how can one be so successful when so many other stars failed to do so. Simple fact is that he has bachelor’s degree in economics and there’s no other actor who has that qualification. Besides that he also worked on his Masters in ‘mass communication’.
Secondly, SRK has never signed ANY movie in his career for the movie especially after being a star/superstar. You can’t buy SRK for his movies ever. He’s not Akshay Kumar who’s selling himself by the days and hours for any producer who shows up with 100 crore signing fee. When they Hollywood studios came to India, they offered him 500 crores for his next 3 movies with his own choice of script, directors and setup but he still declined. He only produces the movies himself and sign the movie his close friends offer.
Finally, how much one is ‘shrewd’ is easily visible by the same fact that SRK is the most generous producer in the film industry ever. He’s very bad producer that he won’t think about returns while making the movie and that always ends up his movie expensive. He pays everyone generously, keeps them in top most hotels and take cares of them well without worrying about investments during the making stage. Name one producer who does that in India? No one does that. No wonder all his movies be it Ra.One, Zero, Dilwale etc are shot beyond their original budgets. He never sticks to the budget ever. I don’t think one can call such a person ‘shrewd’.
I think industry folks will give innumerable examples of his charity and helping nature. Simple example: He made his TV godfather, Lekh Tandon, an actor in Swades and when he was in difficult during 2011, SRK sent a big cheque to help him out but he didn’t want to accept. Then he made him do a small role in Chennai Express and sent him the cheque who has never taken money otherwise as an actor.

I believe this movie is based on illegal immigration or Donkey visas. Good to see SRK after a long time. His next set of movies look good. To be honest i didnt mind the set of his last 5 movies though none of them worked at the BO. Since HNY he has been signing good movies but they falter in execution

Yes, it is based on illegal immigration, mainly the Punjabis to their motherland, Canada. I loved ZERO, RAEES under-whelming considering the trailer, DEAR ZINDAGI with SRK reverting back to pathetic, irritating mannerisms, JHMS an honest attempt but a mis-fire with SRK trying to manage the tight-rope between his DDLJ mannerisms and SWADES’ maturity regarding the performance: Before this, I hardly remember any of his films except CDI and SWADES.

Please use this thread for Dunki and related topics. Any other SRK related stuff could go in weekly box office thread. It is not a hard rule but encouraged.
Not specific here, but political comments referring to other in many ways invie confrontation. Most contentious issues can be discussed civilly without name calling. Ha ha , you are right Naveen. I actually liked the way he conducted himself at the time of his drug addict son’s arrest. he maintained a dignified silence and fought like any dad would.
Problem is that there a few member here who dislike certain stars ONLY because they are close to the BJP.

But log bhool jate hai. NP, carry on!! I’ve told multiple times that I like UMAH and also went Shivaay based on that but didn’t like it but am hoping R34 will be closer to UMAH in treatment. In these times, not easy to watch any movie in big screen just for the heck of it. It’ll be fine even on OTT.

One thing I remembered that I have never been fan of Hirani film teasers, songs prior to the release and I thought this will change with SRK coming as producer but looks like Srk let Raju cut his own style teaser with school going part time editors and that’s what you see. 😀 I remember I was so annoyed with Sanju’s teaser, trailer and that Main Badiya song prior to release but liked the movie. Hoping the movie is as good as other Hirani movies as the teaser, songs won’t be anything special but his talent shines in the movie as a whole. Fingers crossed.
Also, SRK’s superstardom might be a distraction when you place him as commoner in a movie. Let’s see how the story unfolds. Intro shots and such scenes all around the globe be best compared to Punjab scenarios.

And that’s the tricky part. When Dunki was announced, SRK was not at top and this was supposed to be his rescue movie.
Well, things have changed drastically in past 11 months. Now, SRK stardom has reached a height (thru out the world) that is unmatched by anyone in Indian film industry. It makes it difficult to view a movie from an angle where SRK is not there in just about every frame from beginning to end.
Where Pathaan and Jawan came across as SRK IS the movie (which it truly was), the teaser of Dunki shows SRK as part of the movie. We’ll find out Dec 21st how it has turned out.
Keeping in mind that this was supposed to be the movie that give SRK a much needed Super Hit, i have no doubt that SRK again will be the movie. don’t let a teaser fool you.
SRK is great at giving importance to everyone including a sweeper on the set. So this teaser give importance to all important character in the film.

Good thing going for it is, after so many action films this year including still to release, Tiger3, Animal, Salaar, this will come across as a very fresh movie.
300 Cr Lifetime guaranteed (don’t assume 300 cr is a walk in the park).
However, if the movie is bad, it will sink faster than LSC due to audience having an option to watch Salaar.

It’s not about positive or negative review. There are 100s of reviews on YouTube with familiar voices giving it huge thumbs up including likes of Sumit Kadel etc. We can’t be posting all of that here. I found this review interesting in the way its narrated, so posted. Reducing the review either +ve or -ve defeats the purpose the watching any other opinion. I really hope this film doesn’t romanticize the idea of illegal immigration and the woke, idiotic thinking that people should be able to move anywhere freely. US southern border is already being invaded by people from all corners of South America and Trump’s wall no longer seems like a bad idea.

First of all, it’s absolute ridiculous to compare South America, an ever-declining civilization, with India, an economic, democratic powerhouse.
Secondly, I don’t know why some people would move out of India even legally just to clean toilets in countries like England and Canada, which do not offer half the opportunities that the current India does and have become crime-infested cesspools. The only possible reason is the age old adage, “grass is greener on the other side”. Also, a lot of “students” from Punjab move here so they can get Canadian citizenship one day, which means a sizeable dowry when they get married.
If your comment all about BJP bashing (which I am presuming it is) and India being a modern day dictatorship under Modi, then let me tell you that the country I live in, Canada, aka modern day Khalistan (where recently they celebrated the anniversary of Indira Gandhi’s assassination) was responsible for some of the most significant human rights abuse ever committed under the pretence of keeping the country safe during Covid.

I wager that if any new film by the Disaster King were to be released in competition with a film like Hukus Bukus or any other film starring Rajpal Yadav as the lead, the Disaster King would be soundly defeated. Yet those who live in their own little worlds continue to believe that the Disaster King is the greatest of all time.

I have travelled the world, and immigration is common almost everywhere. And now people in the west (mostly the aspirational and richer ones) have started to move to places like Dubai, Qatar etc. because of lack of safety and growing disdain towards capitalism. Meanwhile, the labor in these gulf nations would love to move to western countries for numerous reasons.
As Vijay said above, immigration has become more of a symbiotic relationship between India and the west. They are both profiting out of the equation.
India is a nation of 1.5 billion people with a growing middle class. There are going to be a number of winners but many losers as well, it’s just not black and white.

Lets make scale slightly smaller; A person from UP moves to Mumbai or Bangalore and settles there; Is that person going to identify from where they come from or where they are now settled? You can make the scale smaller and make it within a state. People move for better opportunities or curiosity (greener grass). There could be hypocrisy within the stand (to support migration or not) of the individuals; but that is how we all are (e have different set of rules for other than self).
ps – Rules are same for everyone; If you don’t like it you try to change via democratic process or migrate.

Actually every native has fantasies of an American visa (since all of us are very poor folks unable to afford 3 meals a day), all “worthy” among us lives overseas (ironically SRK never applied for US citizenship, what a poverty stricken fool!), the ISRO, ICMR, HAL and countless software/biotech MNCs across Pune, B’lore, Ncr etc are full of folks desperately seeking firangi visas to clean their bathrooms, Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu & Virat Kohli sulk internally everyday that they do not represent the UK and there are NO illegal immigrants in our borders since Africans, Afghans, Eastern Europeans & Banglas are non existent out here at our universities and colonies and China is still a poorer society due to their number of visa applications 😜

Good point by Munna..dunki kind of movie hasn’t done well at a scale after covid..Zara hatke was closest at small scale…that’s why I felt this was like LSC obviously it will open bigger due to how things panned out in last year with srk and this has hirani plus the clash. But it’s a good test to see how much such a genre can do..it will need very little to be a clean hit with that budget but let’s see if accepted whether it can compete with the big grossers.
Song is nice but srk looks.old…probably this must be the first movie in a while where he has turned up on the sets without makeup and it shows

That’s because big stars and directors haven’t made good dramas lately. I believe comedy dramas still have millions of following and the right film can draw eepeat audiences, but these have mostly been attempted by smaller filmmakers in small and mid range budget films. If a big star like SRK gets it right in a film of this genre, the sky can be the limit.

So, now we have 3 folks attached to the film being confident. The writer, Abhijat Joshi, the actor, Boman Irani and casting director Mukesh Chabra. Even SRK is pretty confident. Now, it’s just wait and watch scenario. If it does 500 crs and less than Pathaan or Jawan also, it’s fine. 600 is tough without solo release. It needs to be masterpiece or that level. Just good movie can’t help to reach there in this genre. Ideally I’m expecting 600 cr nett Hindi but even 350 crs will make it blockbuster due to budget.

While many here predicting big things for Dunki . I think this is nice netflix watch. In 2023 all money spinners are big event action movies , audience have not accepted a simple family drama yet in 2023 in theaters. Audience taste has changed even if 3 idiots would have released in 2023, it would have struggled to get above 200 crores. If SRK made this above 300 crore with clash with Saalar this will bigger success then Pathan or Jawan.

Both Saalar and Dunki trailers are very average.
Compared to this Animal trailer was EPIC in every sense. It seems RKH got mystified with SRK the star, while south directors can get the best of SRK the actor and star. SRK should do more action movies in future which will gross more box officewise. Dunki will become a success because of the low budget but the chances of a big hit seem low.

This is not a movie which will need 6am show, and such mocie grow over the day. Good test for his fan club also if they can repeat what they did with Jawaan and pathaan. My guess here is a 30cr to 40cr opening, giving a higher range deliberately.

People are expecting all kinds of numbers and if it opens in 30s or even 40 for Thu and then half screens(or 65%) from Friday sharing Salaar, I don’t see it doing even 160 in 5 day weekend and 200 in week 1. Even with good WOM, it’s hard to go near 500 and will settle at 400 max. Unless it’s like must watch movie which it doesn’t screan from the trailer.

I don’t konw what people were expecting from Dunki Trailer. For a RK Hirani film i find it good trailer. Hirani’s films are always like that. IMO This will do miniumm 300 cr and rest will depend on how good/bad Salaar is. Family audience is desperatley waiting a movie which they can see together. Dunki trailer is promising that. All what Dunki needs is that less role young SRK and Punjab portion and More of Migration and Hardayal singh dhillon. And it is good that SRK is playing role of his age. I hope Dunki has Less of SRK of Zero/Chennai Express and more of Hardayal singh dhillon. Rest Family audience and Christmas period will take care.

Trailer is good. Some relief from the usual action stuff.
Don’t underestimate it, it will click with family audience.
I do agree that big total is not possible due to clash with a huge film (this is not gadar2/omg2 type of clash). This is both films being big. One due to actor/director combination and the other due to actor/director/big budget.
I think below is very reasonable:
Day 1 – 20 Cr
Day 2 – 25 Cr
Day 3 – 30 Cr
Day 4 – 35 Cr
Day 5 – 40 Cr
Day 6 – 23 Cr
Day 7 – 22 Cr
Day 8 – 21 Cr
First week total = 216 Cr
Of course, it can easily be 250 Cr first week or less then 200 Cr depending on how the movie is and how salaar performs.

Disappointing trailer. It’s strange but SRK seems to act better and in control in action movies like Pathaan or Jawan while here again goes overboard and starts hamming. Hirani haven’t been in form after 3 idiots although both PK and Sanju did well commercially.
If Salaar gets decent reviews/wom it will destroy Dunki. This looks like a mess and too much khichdi of everything thrown.

This trailer is a poor one. Hirani never knew to cut good trailers, but this is his new low.
Maybe this movie will turn out to be much better than the trailer (like his other films), but the standard of the trailer is so low that beating it qualitatively may not mean much.
I would not want this to go the LSC way, but the trailer does remind me the poor boring quality of LSC.
Raju Hirani seems to be on a downslide. His Sanju was easily his poorest film and this might turn out to be even worse.
Aamir may have been v lucky to have got Hirani at his prime. 3I and PK will perhaps remain his best films qualitatively and also box office wise.

Hirani has been making films for decades now. Still, there is absolutely ZERO evolution in his direction. The same cinematography, same simple character sketches, similar sounding songs, similar crass humor (he has a thing for shiiit or donki drops in this case), sugary treatment of the narrative, and of course his regular dumbed-down social-messaging. No development as a director whatsoever! And he is well over fifty now.

Really surprised that in general, everything shown so far from Dunki, Teaser, lutt putt song, nikle the ghar se song, and now the trailer, all have been liked by majority.
Of course you’ll find some who will absolutly hate everything about it like we see in post above due to SRK presence but that makes the picture even more clear that it has hit the nerves. Potential of another hit for SRK is there.

Not true. Outside of SRK fans the trailer reception is generally thanda among neutral audience as well. Teaser and songs were nice but trailer is all over the place specially the second half. This will find it really tough against Salaar.
Agree about Hirani. Never had been a big fan as I always thought of him as a decent director but nothing like best director of India as many claim him to be. He more or less keeps using and repeating the same formula and cannot make movies outside his comfort zone. Dunki will be even more challenging as it seems the action part out of Hirani’s comfort zone. I could be wrong but things doesn’t look quite good for Dunki as of now specially when it’s clashing with something like Salaar.

Agree, clash with salaar is not good, hirani is not a great director. I don’t think anyone truly believes he is but what he is, is that he has delivered very successful films. Kind of like rohit shetty but at much higher level.
Rohit finally had circus which was a dud last christmas. can hirani give dud this christmas? Of course, anyone can have a bad day.
But let’s wait to see that.
Coming here, spewing hatred towards SRK doesn’t make a film bad or flop.

Underestimate Hirani at your own peril.
This should on paper be the perfect timing for SRK and Hirani. No point low blowing predictions. PK nearly a decade ago opened mid 20’s. SRK has opened 2 movies to historic numbers. Nobody’s saying a record opening but a good opening north of 30Cr should be a given.

Odd are in Hirani favor. There’s nothing in trailer that suggest that the film will be boring or bad.
It may not excite like an action movie trailer but you also had some here who didn’t like anything about pathaan and jawan and we all know what those movies did at the box office.
Movie will do well, not anything bumper due to clash with a huge film but it will do well. It will not be like Zero.
If it flops big time, it will be due to the film being very bad.
If it does well, some here can go to “Fake collection” theory.
Will be curious to see how the ground promotion goes from the SRK fans. They did amazing job during Pathaan and Jawan.

Let’s not forget the posts from the crew etc being shared here that this is Hirani’s best movie. I would bet on Dunki more than Pathaan or Jawan. I don’t bother with Hirani trailers. They’ve never been good simply because they are trailers without context.

The fact that this movie was supposed to be a movie that would give SRK a much needed hit, tells me that it’s a safe bet.
Of course, pathaan/jawan success has changed all the dynamics but i think this is an easy 250 Cr movie and it will collect at least 250 Cr from overseas.

Agree with Jay here…the movie is being underestimated just like how jawaan was after first songs…hirani i agree is a safe director but safe is exactly what is needed here…no one wants to see hirani doing something non hirani in a festive week..safe is a good word..not a bad word in the context…and the trailor has been liked..usa opened advance a day earlier after the trailor

It’s not. Just fighting with security/army for a moment (with John Abraham look-alike) doesn’t mean much. See Srk’s reply and he has mentioned that’s its pure family movie multiple times.

Apparently, the town Laltu is where Dharmendra comes from and how he moved to Mumbai to become movie actor. There’s Dharmendra in the movie as well, mostly in guest role as father or grand father of SRK.

On one hand, you have the ACTUAL movie theater owners saying the movie is doing blockbuster business and on the other side, you have water tank girl with no connection and no first hand knowledge of anything related to boxoffice talking all nonsense and you have some one like bobo cristo promoting it here because it helps with agenda of hating srk.

after 2-3 viewing trailer is very good , its normal that a film like dunki didint have a trailer like jawan
srk is an army man in the film , so the shooting ect… will be justified , comedy and drame will be good too
it will definitly openin more than 30cr, on a normal friday without clash it was approx a 42-45cr opening day , pk opened at 75% of dhoom 3 one year later,
releasing on thursday with not great night shows bcz next day is friday , plus with some people already booked there tikckets for another movie ( salaar ) i think it will be 35-40cr opening day

If you try to book for Thursday or Saturday, it says “Tickets are not for sale yet”, but i was able to book them yesterday.

Cinemark is not working directly but fandango/atom is working for the cinema.
ps – Google “Dunki Booking”; if Google knows your location, it will show timings to nearby cinema. When you click it, you will see option which “vehicle” to use to buy tickets.

For a fair and balanced review, watch this. This is not someone off street. This guy actually has a skin in the game because it impacts his earnings.
Compare this to hyperbole water tank girl who puts out video just to spread her hate for SRK.
Who are you going to believe? A person who ACTUALLY has first had information and who ACTUALLY gets impacted by how a movie does or water tank girl (by the way, i didn’t make this name, that’s what’s she’s being call on net)?

The trailer grows on you, I suspect the film will do the same. Wishful thinking to believe that Dunki will ‘win’ the clash initially, Salaar is clearly primed to take a much bigger start but if Dunki clicks in typical RKH fashion then this will win the long term clash.

Not sure what Hirani is attempting here but I hope he sticks to his guns and dont dilute his movie because he has SRK in it. Rohit Shetty made same mistake in Dilwale and paid for it

The whole video has that disclaimer, “Promo version, the film has a different version”.
But looks like is that they don’t have too many songs like lutput gaya and all of them are background songs and they needed some promotional content to promote.
