You forgot the most important part. Rafi…
Listen to this song with your eyes closed and just by singing of Rafi, you can visualize the whole song and how it’s picturised.
Perhaps Satyam should write an article on it.
He had an amazing range and the voice to go with it. Differentiate his voice based on who it was going to be picturised on from Dilip to Johny walker to shammi to rishi. He sang for all from Ashok kumar to raj babbar.
If somebody wants to see his range, they should listen to song Man Mora Bawra (ironicly picturized on Kishor Kumar).

Well, it should be written by somebody who lived thru that era (or some of it) or has understanding of all factors involved.
For example, there was an interview of Shan on one of music channel and the lady asked her why did you used to sing Kishor song on stage and not Rafi, and his answer was, Rafi songs are hard to sing. Rafi may have made it look easy but when you try to sing it, it’s very hard to get all the notes, high/lowes, ragas correct.
I think the interview was on B4U channel.

The evergreen songs of those times. Glad that Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore, Hemant, Manna dey, Talat belonged to that era. Cant imagine those legends singing the present day songs.

Just saw an interview of Bachhan which he had done during when Rafi’s daughter released a book on Rafi. Bachhan said in those times you would have to record the whole song in one go and it would have to be perfect by everybody, one slight off note and they would have to start all over again.
Not like today where if a line is repeated few times in the song, they would record it probably once and then just replay is using some music software.
The voice is recorded seperatly from music, if there are multiple singers in a song, they don’t even have to record it at once, they can all be record seperatly.
Good songs or should i say songs which requires a lot of practice ended probably early 70’s. Rafi used to say that after mid 70’s, he didn’t have to do much training for the songs.
