Abhishek, John in Hera Pheri 3

LINK

Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham were last seen together eight years ago in the film Dostana. And since a few months, rumours have been rife about the duo reuniting for the third installment of Firoz Nadiadwala’s Hera Pheri franchise. And now the duo has been confirmed for the project.

Currently, titled Hera Pheri 3 the film will be directed by Neeraj Vora and will also feature Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal, who will continue from the original trio. While the story of the third installment is said to take off from where the second part ended, Akshay Kumar won’t be doing the film.

Expected to commence shooting in June this year, the film will be extensively shot in Mumbai, Dubai and Las Vegas.

  1. Ideally this is a rumor (!) but if not and coupled with the reports of the Houseful delay this is a better poison than that film!

  2. Not good for his career..All it does for him is put into a supporting comedian category (especially after BB, HNY and to an extent dostana).. This is not even the comedy face roles that Govinda or Akshay made for themselves..,,,Its more in the range of what Chunkey Pandey used to be with Govinda.

  3. I don’t blame him for these choices….he does not have any big banners or prestige director signing him nowadays. Or maybe he is just not interested in prestige films anymore.

  4. Prestige or no prestige..Hera Pheri is a big brand, if Abhishek does something good in this movie, he might just pick up his entertaining quotient and may be carry further on this. The comedy seat is vacant since past 3-4 years…PK can be considered a comedy but its too high level to be out and out. This is Abhishek’s chance to prove his mettle. I am pretty sure…John A will suck in this one and snort his way hamming into the role, showing muscles.

  5. The actor considers it a “matter of huge pride” to be part of the movie. ‘Hera Pheri 3’ will also feature Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, apart from ‘Dostana’ stars Abhishek and John. The film will be produced by Firoz Nadiadwala. The story of the third instalment will take off from where the second part ended, says director Neeraj Vora.

“Whether we get to see original Raju in the film or not, for that you have to see the film. I can’t reveal the end. The first film was over and the second part starts when they are rich. Now the third part will start with where we left the second movie,” he added. Veteran actor Paresh says his character Baburao in the film is a very well-written character.

“The character of Baburao was written so well. I believe that in India, there is no actor who can rise above the material. The director and writers of this film, have given me a lot. It’s fun to have commercial success along with fun while working with the character. I am thankful to the writer and producer of this film,” he said.

so….it’s really happening…i don’t remember HP 2..so I’ve got to go back and watch it but I know it wasn’t close to Hera Pheri. I know in both Paresh stole the show. If the plot isn’t too crazy and they keep the comedy at the fore front and not over think it…this can be a good time pass movie. To expect something ‘big’ commercially from this cast would be asking too much though. Also the songs have to be VERY catchy. Wish it would’ve had Akshay instead of John though…huge turn off.

      • think they probably wanted to start afresh. Otherwise they would have retained Akshay. To be honest I always found the first HP overrated too. It was alright but I could never quite understand why everyone thought this was a classic of some sort. The second from what little I’ve seen had some good moments but was vastly inferior. here it’s a fair bet that you have the Dostana team, you have Rawal in that part, it’s hard to get a failure. Of course the point with such films is to get the biggest initial possible and the bar has been raised quite a bit on this these days. Then it’s the second sequel too. One can’t expect a massive initial but it would have to be a reasonably strong one, otherwise it’s pointless doing such a film.

Akshay has been rejecting this film for years now. He doesn’t want to do anything with Firoz Nadiadwala and thats why he backed out of Welcome Sequel as well. Hera Pheri 2 in 2006 and Welcome in 2007.. after that Firoz claims he wasted all his years waiting for Akshay kumar dates till now. Then went ahead and replaced him in both sequels and launching both Welcome sequel and Hera Pheri 3.

        • Its been old news. It was in the media.. when I search, I saw one old article with this info. First they wanted to replace both Akki and Shetty with Abhishek and Sanjay Dutt. Now, they are introducing 2 new characters and removing Akki’s character and retaining Shetty.

“There are reports that the leading and prominent face of the Hera Pheri franchise, Akshay Kumar has pulled out from Hera Pheri 3. A source close to the actor has informed, “Akshay Kumar is said to have an ugly fall-out with the producer Firoz Nadiadwala and is unwilling to work with him. For a very long time the third part of Hera Pheri was stuck because Anees couldn`t lock in on a script. By the time he did, Firoz and Akshay had fallen out”.

    • What’s Abhishek’s problem? I hate it when he’s acting obnoxious (like in the Dhoom 3 days). First he doesn’t even bother to listen to the guy asking the question and goes off on his own trip before making the dude repeat himself. And then he seems to struggle to comprehend a pretty reasonable and simple question. Too much attitude.

      Like

      • he could have certainly handled it better..but to be fair..that was one absurd and senseless question that reporter asked..I don’t think even he himself was sure, about what he was asking.

        • I thought the question was both simple and reasonable: “Hera Pheri is a movie I can keep watching repeatedly each time it is shown on tv, regardless of which point the film is at when you switch the tv on. What are you own thoughts about the original movie?” What made you feel it was a senseless/absurd question? (And I’m sure Abhi understands better Hindi than me seeing as it’s not my primary or secondary language)

I really like Abhishek hence feel particularly bothered when he behaves like this. It doesn’t leave a good impression and he should know better.

        • yhea, he appears rude, grouchy, unprofessional and unnecessarily defensive. It doesn’t matter what question is asked, you can give out some scripted answer and learn to deal with it and “handle” it. So what is scribe is looking for headline. That is his job. I liked recently Alia’s interview where she said bring it on…interviews, personal question, people asking for autographs…she loves it all. I liked that attitude! full of positivity. Both Ash and abhi, tend to be grouchy and holier-than-thou in interviews and appear so negative. God gave you so much, be happy and grateful!!

  6. Exclusive: Irrfan Khan to play a lovable don in Abhishek Bachchan-John Abraham’s Hera Pheri 3!
Fri, January 16, 2015 8:18pm UTC by Srishti Dixit

We are all upset by Akshay Kumar‘s absence from the third installment of the Hera Pheri franchise but everything happens for a reason. A source suggests that the makers didn’t approach the Baby actor for Hera Pheri 3 because the script did not require his character in the film. Instead both Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham will be seen playing the character of Raju while Suniel Shetty will play his character of Shyam and Paresh Rawal will relive the iconic role of Baburao Ganpat Rao Apte.

Apart from these leads another addition made to the cast is Irrfan Khan who will be seen playing a lovable don in the film! A source reveals, “Irrfan Khan’s character will be that of a lovable don and it is nothing like the characters of Abhishek and John. The writers are still writing the don’s character and Irrfan is being considered as the best suited actor for this part. In all probability he will be playing the lovable don!”

Irrfan has made his name based on the serious roles but hardly has the actor played comic roles onscreen! This role of Mr Khan in Hera Pheri 3 sounds like the role of a lifetime! Are you excited to see Irrfan join Abhishek and John in the mad laughter riot that is Hera Pheri 3?

  7. Hera Pheri 3, produced by Firoz A Nadiadwala, marks the third instalment of this franchise. While Suniel Shetty returns as Ghanshyam and Paresh Rawal reprises his role of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, the film has Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham joining the cast.

The two actors will essay the role of Raju Khabri and Raju Duplicate respectively. Riddled with twists and turns, the laugh riot is written and directed by Neeraj Vora. The film is scheduled to go on floors next month and will be shot in Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi, Macau and Mumbai. The makers also have plans to rope in a prominent Hollywood action director because they are aiming at some innovative action sequences.

Firoz says, “The third instalment will be on a bigger scale and will be ably supported by strong performances. It’s our endeavour to make Hera Pheri 3 one of the most sought-after family entertainers of this year.”

Neeraj says, “It’s a challenge to make a sequel to Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. I hope to take the third part to a different level of madness altogether. It will be as funny and as mad as I am.”

Hera Pheri 3, produced by Base Industries Group, releases December 18.

    • I can’t fathom a reason why Dostana 2 never happened. It was planned, scheduled and always scrapped. Tarun has been waiting forever for Karan Johar to green light that project and hasn’t been able to work on something else either. Its not they are making some classic, any time pass average movie would have been good money spinner is it came after 2-3 yrs of the original.. in 2010-2011.

      • I’m actually glad it didn’t happen for all sorts of reasons. But you’re right in that it would have been an easy money spinner. Why it didn’t happen is a bit complicated.

  8. Is this still scheduled for Dec 18? They might be tempted to release now as Bajirao Mastani is moving to next year.

    • I don’t know but I don’t think it;s a good idea.. it’s not just about competition on the 25th but also the fact that all the good screens will be taken up by Dilwale. Also these sorts of comedies are typically strong only in the first week. They’re sometimes ok in the second week, mostly worse. With competition in the second week this trend will be exacerbated. Having said that I’ve always been skeptical about the Dec 18 date. I think if one is going to do things that way it’s better to take on the competition head-on. Because a week earlier might seem ok except that people then tend to wait for the Christmas release as well. Also it’s about sending the right signals to the audience. Usually no very important film releases a week before Christmas.

      • Dilwale is also releasing on Dec 18, if this releases, it’ll be direct head-on.

        • well if they insist on Dec 18 that might be better. But I would never release it at the same time. It’s not just about becoming a hit or not. Your gross is greatly reduced as a mathematical certainty. Also SRK would never want competition on a film where he’s trying to get the biggest gross possible. He’d call in some chips. Now Bhansali is a different matter. he’s crazy! So he could still stick to that date unless of course his distributors beat some sense into him.

  10. Says producer Firoz A Nadiadwallah, “Akshay played the roguish and very popular character Raju in Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. We have incorporated references in the dialogue to his character to reveal that he’s gone missing.Writer-director Neeraj Vora has included two characters named Raju, who could have been played by Akshay. One is a character called Raju Khabri, a roguish police informer played by Abhishek Bachchan, and the other is Raju Duplicate played by John Abraham, who makes a living selling pirated copies of Bhojpuri films.”

    • This can actually work. Obviously Akshay kumar is a big star but the major laughs were around Baburao’s character and as long Paresh Rawal is doing that role, it’ll have that laughs. Even 2nd movie PHP directed by Neeraj Vohra managed to do good business coz of that character.

  12. I thought it would be a better deal for Abhishek personally than Housefull 3. The main problem is that does Abhishek have anything lined up after Housefull? I don’t recall any and it’s not really encouraging.

    Like

    • He has no films on hand after Housefull 3 and he recently said he’s not going to do more comedies after a long string. He’s looking to try new genres whichever offers he gets. I don’t know which genre will suit him now. Mostly will be a home production.

      Like

      • Also Housefull 3.. firstly won’t do well and secondly if it does well, I don’t think he has role to take the credit away especially from Akshay kumar. This looks even lesser than HNY where at least he was different than other side actors. This is more or less Ritiesh category and can’t beat them in this type of slapstick comedy! So, after doing long string of supporting roles and even getting success, his career is to back to square. Still he needs something to reinvent not sure if its possible ever to get back to solo big budget movies back in his kitty.

        Like

        • I’m hardly a fan of Houseful or this whole genre of movies but have to disagree that it’s lesser than HNY in terms of his role. Because here the three heroes seem to be together in every scene and song! On not being able to do slapstick I completely disagree with that as well. Not sure if things get much more slapstick than BB. Or Dostana at the multiplex end. Even did truly gross over the top in HNY recently. This doesn’t mean I agree with these choices or anything but it’s important not to get carried away. One must separate box office realities from an actor’s abilities. I’d say Abhishek is probably the only actor around who’s pretty much handled every kind of comedy from sophisticated deadpan (BM) to completely over the top at both mass and multiplex ends of the equation. He hasn’t done any of these things consistently in film after film but it’s safe to say that he hasn’t done any genre repeatedly whether these films have worked or not. Now he doesn’t get much out of Houseful is something I agree with. Akshay in any case is going through a good phase again (even if in comedies he increasingly needs a circus to get the numbers and he knows this more than anyone else) and so obviously will get the credit. One way or the other all of this doesn’t address the reinvention question which will come or not on its own terms. But it will be interesting to see what he attempts after this if he’s not doing more comedies. Because earlier he hasn’t even been willing to take on smaller solos. Finally I’d say nothing is ‘never’, precisely in this age of amnesia!

          Like

        • No one’s saying reinvention is not possible.. am just putting it out that am curious where and how and which genre will bring him that. I can see only Guru kind of movie/performance to get back him in the reckoning!

          Like

        • I know you weren’t saying that but I was addressing a number of things. I do agree though.. the more one fails one way or the other the more dramatic the reinvention needs to be.. and this of course isn’t easy.
