The takeaway from this blog is Munshi Premchand’s story.
In the ‘Power of the Curse’ (Garib ki Hai), written about 100 years ago, the master storyteller Munshi Prem Chand inoculated our ancestors’ psyche with the contours of human cruelty and white-knuckled tragedy. That is the understanding of injustice that has endured in our midst all these decades. The science of viruses makes it obvious that the pathogen never intends to kill the host and the more it mutates, the more virulent it gets, however the less lethal at the same time. Imposing complete lockdown for 1700 reported cases where 95% of them are either asymptomatic or totally mild for a 3M population like Nagpur’s is criminal! Obvious ploy of the state government to demand and stack up more number of vaccines from the center on priority. Unfortunately, I fear other states will follow suit. When the ruling govt is a bunch of illiterates and their scientific advisors are a bunch of qualified yet corrupt individuals there’s hardly any hope left for the common citizens except Mahadev’s intervention.
Yes the measures are harsh. In the border-town between Maha and Karnataka, my father, 75 got vaccinated for covid. The system is really efficient. He was asked to wait for 30 minutes to check for any adverse reaction. He is fine – but he is stubborn and insists on doing things himself. He drove to and fro alone!! But he said he was impressed by the way they conducted the entire process. All due details, pre-existing conditions were noted, and after the shot, a detailed text message — including the name of the Nurse! — was sent and he was asked to report to the same center at the same time after 28 days. There’s also an emergency number in case there’s any issue in-between …

The commission took action based on a complaint which alleged that the series normalises minors indulging in casual sex and drug abuse.

The children nowadays are exposed to everything. Infact, the children’s scenes(they are not 5 year olds) send a warning to negligent parents and guardians to keep track.
Roohi recorded the best numbers post the pandemic as it collected a healthy 2.75 crore nett on its first day. These numbers looked impossible after the advance on Wednesday evening but finally the on the day audience came out which had not happened to films released since the pandemic started.
This is probably down to a few factors with Mahashivratri being one, then the film had decent music and there would have been some pent up demand among the youth. This sort of 2.75 crore nett number has not come for many Rajkumar Rao films before the pandemic so getting it in this situation is a good result.

I don’t think it’s a question of whether you believe Meghan or not. In any establishment, whether school, workplace or government if a complaint has been made, if someone has raised a grievance of sorts, if someone is mentally unstable- I think you step back and take it seriously. If you know the outcome could be this serious you make double sure you’ve dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s. Deal with it or risk dealing with it the way it’s coming out now.
Racism and mental health are not frivolous things you tuck up or sweep under the carpet.

Teddy is the story of Srividya, a college student. She is kidnapped from a hospital and is taken to for a minor surgery. While her kidnappers keep her in a medically induced coma, she has an out of body experience, where she gets into the body of a teddy bear. She, as Teddy, seeks Shiva, the hero’s help in reuniting with her body.
The biggest strength of Teddy is the eponymous stuffed toy itself. It carries in it an endearing personality, a combination of curiosity, nonchalance and purposefulness. The animators of the film do a fantastic job in bringing the character to life, without unnecessary exaggeration or dramatisation.

Ultimately decisions about titles and security are made solely by the monarch. As per reports, Prince Charles has been keen on limiting the number of people who qualify as official members of the royal family.
A royal title does not automatically mean that a member of the royal family will receive security. Only full-time working royals receive police bodyguards funded by taxpayers money. Prince Harry and Meghan received this protection before they moved to North America. When their senior royal status ended, they also lost their security protection.
This scrutiny on the intricacies of titles only really happened around or post pregnancy.

Anyway it’s a silly thing overall. Meghan and Harry are old enough to step back and rich enough to take care. Principally I get there point and it is silly to suddenly change things up now of all times.
Roohi collected a 2 crore nett plus number on Friday coming of the Mahashivratri holiday which is a 25% drop and a healthy trend. The number may go a little above 2 crore nett when the final numbers from Mumbai and Delhi / UP come but 2 crore is there as it got a nice little evening push though not as strong the push on day one.
The two day collections of the film are 4.75 crore nett and there is Saturday and Sunday to come and in a normal scenario you would say its a comfortable 10 crore nett extended weekend but since cinemas opened in October the normal trends are not there as many films have seen a Sunday drop.
Roohi is showing a very good upturn on Saturday as collections are set to reach its first day total of 2.75 crore nett and could even hit that 3 crore nett mark. The collections across multiplexes in the bigger cities are set to cross the numbers they recorded on Thursday though other places may not reach day one totals. But the the business is mainly from the bigger multiplexes as a lot of twin plexes and singles have not opened yet.
If the film gets 3 crore nett it will be the first time that a 3 crore nett total has come on any day post the pandemic and that includes Hollywood release. It has to remembered this film does not have face value and nor has it found support from the national media which small films need to give them a push over the weekend. Despite this the film will be recording growth in the 50% range on its third day.

More web series to be axed in coming weeks & months
One major filmmaker who has been asked to clean up his forthcoming series says, “You can’t even make a mythological which at one time was considered the safest genre. Now anyone can get up and raise an objection to anything to do with religion. So sorry, no mythological, no Ramayan no Mahabharat, no Bible or Quran either. Pre-Covid times Roohi wud have done 55-60 cr nett. Currently it seems set to do 25-30 cr nett total. Multiplex audience seems to be 50% out there at present.
Multiplexes have been 50% since the time of Tenet. With cases on the rise again, it aint good news for Mumbai Saga & Saina. Sooryavanshi missed a good opportunity to do 150 Cr in the Xmas/New Year weekend, something that Master & Krack capitalized on during Sankranti. Bollywood producers have proved to be a bunch of confused high headed dimwits compared to their Hollywood & Southern counterparts.
I think Bollywood shud be grateful with a couple of 100+ cr nett grossers in the next 6 months … I dont see Sooryavanshi guaranteed to do that either, given the current circumstances.

Watched Aa gale lag ja once again on evergreen classics channel without any ad breaks. It is as fresh even after watching so many times. Shashi Kapoor is the most handsome bollywood star who fitted in this emotional role with ease and charm. Among all Desai’s film, I love this emotional film which makes us believe in eternal love. The kid who played the son is the true hero. His love for his single father was so touching. And the songs by Kishore Kumar sound so soulful. This is the film where Shatru played a very likeable role and Sharmila Tagore did more acting than simpering. And Om Prakash with a wig looked handsome and lovable inspite of his villainish act separating the child from the mother. Most of the time, his eyes spoke. They dont make films like this anymore.

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari which was the first Hindi film to release on 15th November 2020 after the reopening in cinemas is continuing to run till today. The screen count was cut with the release of Roohi but the film had managed to play on 100 or almost 100 screens till the release of Roohi every week.
The overall collections are not much but the film has managed to sustain at those levels. There were films like Tenet, Wonder Woman 84 and Vijay – The Master which had similar releases to Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari but these did not get the sustained run of Suraj Mangal Pe Bhari. In fact Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari in week seventeen was grossing more than the three films combined which were in week 14, week 11 and week 8 respectively.
From an extended cameo, Alia Bhatt’s role is now being converted into a full-fledged part in S S Rajamouli’s RRR. Informed sources say Alia now has a song and dance, apart from some very dramatic moments with Ramcharan Teja and NTR Junior, though she shares a romantic relationship only with Ramcharan.
The last 2 months are going to be simply Mad at the box office. There are 7 biggies scheduled to release in Nov-Dec 2021 – Prithviraj, Jersey, Bhool Bhulaiya 2, Brahmastra, Heropanti 2, Laal Singh Chaddha and Cirkus. Phew!

The six-foot physical distancing rule has been widely adopted across the world to prevent the spread of Covid-19 but the requirement has caused problems for schools, especially those with limited infrastructure, to reopen. The minimum distance of three-foot for reopening of schools has been endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
“Physical distance between desks should follow current public health guidance, and desks should be placed at least 3 feet apart and ideally 6 feet apart,” the AAP guidance reads.

More web series to be axed in coming weeks & months
One major filmmaker who has been asked to clean up his forthcoming series says, “You can’t even make a mythological which at one time was considered the safest genre. Now anyone can get up and raise an objection to anything to do with religion. So sorry, no mythological, no Ramayan no Mahabharat, no Bible or Quran either. The role model for a safe series on the Indian digital platform is the Disney products. Loads of children, harmless fun and adventure. Even here when you have children in a series you have to make sure they behave as per the rules of decency.”
“You can’t show them attending rave parties or using bad language because as we all know, children don’t do these things,” he ends sarcastically.
Filmmakers with political scripts have been given two options: change the name of the country or make something else. As for religion, you can’t show any pictures of Gods or Goddesses in any frame lest someone objects to the unacceptable placing of a photo of a deity or even the exclamation, ‘Oh God’ could be damaging to a series, as you can’t take God’s name in vain.

“Netflix was not satisfied with the product they had in hand and hence decided to scrap it completely putting Rs 100 crore as bad debts. They reworked on the script, star-cast and technical team and are now reshooting Bahubali: Before The Beginning, on a never seen before, unheard scale for their streaming. They see the potential in Bahubali of being India’s answer to Game of Thrones, and hence, they have decided to take things a notch higher. The overall budget for the new part is Rs. 200 crore, and if we add the scrap value, the project now is worth Rs 300 crore,” a trade source told Bollywood Hungama.
It’s produced by SS Rajamouli with Netflix and is planned as a 9 episode, two season limited series, showcasing the rise of Shivagami set in the world of Mahishmati. It’s said to be a prequel to Bahubali. While the original cast was to feature Mrunal Thakur as Shivagami, we still await an update if she will continue to play the queen or has she been replaced by someone else in this revamped Rs 200 crore version of the franchise.

Of course there’s the never ending Tom & Jerry that’s been running for over a month and now Bollywood’s getting a partial success in Roohi too.

Pre-Covid times Roohi wud have done 55-60 cr nett. Currently it seems set to do 25-30 cr nett total. Multiplex audience seems to be 50% out there at present.

Multiplexes have been 50% since the time of Tenet. With cases on the rise again, it aint good news for Mumbai Saga & Saina. Sooryavanshi missed a good opportunity to do 150 Cr in the Xmas/New Year weekend, something that Master & Krack capitalized on during Sankranti. Bollywood producers have proved to be a bunch of confused high headed dimwits compared to their Hollywood & Southern counterparts.

Actor-politician Jaya Bachchan today denounced Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat’s “ripped jeans” comment, saying this was the mindset that encouraged crimes against women. “Such statements don’t befit a Chief Minister,” said the Samajwadi Party parliamentarian on the remarks that have drawn disgust and anger on social media.
“Those in higher posts must think and make public statements. You say such things in today’s times, you will decide who’s cultured and who’s not based on clothes? It’s bad mindset and encourages crimes against women,” Jaya Bachchan, a Rajya Sabha member, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Watched Aa gale lag ja once again on evergreen classics channel without any ad breaks. It is as fresh even after watching so many times. Shashi Kapoor is the most handsome bollywood star who fitted in this emotional role with ease and charm. Among all Desai’s film, I love this emotional film which makes us believe in eternal love. The kid who played the son is the true hero. His love for his single father was so touching. And the songs by Kishore Kumar sound so soulful. This is the film where Shatru played a very likeable role and Sharmila Tagore did more acting than simpering. And Om Prakash with a wig looked handsome and lovable inspite of his villainish act separating the child from the mother. Most of the time, his eyes spoke. They dont make films like this anymore.

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari which was the first Hindi film to release on 15th November 2020 after the reopening in cinemas is continuing to run till today. The screen count was cut with the release of Roohi but the film had managed to play on 100 or almost 100 screens till the release of Roohi every week.
The overall collections are not much but the film has managed to sustain at those levels. There were films like Tenet, Wonder Woman 84 and Vijay – The Master which had similar releases to Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari but these did not get the sustained run of Suraj Mangal Pe Bhari. In fact Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari in week seventeen was grossing more than the three films combined which were in week 14, week 11 and week 8 respectively.
