More than terminology its about consistency. An aspect where BOI has falls apart completely compared to FI and now Sacnilk or even Koimoi.

Terminology is just a naming convention and that hardly matters. When it comes to consistency TG is also as good as FI. And any source like BOI which lacks consistency is a farce.
@Munna – Why this new thread? Not much discussion goes on regarding FI anyways.

Film Information, the premier trade magazine of the Hindi film industry, completed 50 years today (6th October). Started on 6th October, 1973 by its founder editor-printer-publisher, Shri Ramraj Nahta (in picture above), it has served the film industry for half a century with its free, frank and impartial reviews and reporting of the happenings in the film trade, including box-office collections of cinemas across the country.
Although the magazine is now in the digital format only, it was started as a weekly in the print format. It was published every Saturday for 46 years. The magazine changed its avatar on 6th October, 2019, the day it completed 46 years. It is now four years that the trade paper is being brought out digitally.
Saturdays (the day on which the magazine in the print format was published) from 1973 to 2019 used to be unthinkable for the film trade people without a copy of their favourite trade magazine in their hands. While the magazine was never sold on the news stands as it was for circulation within the film trade only, that too, by subscription, the online version has been made available to the world at large.

So AB has delivered 20 blockbusters in his career as per FI. In his prime, 18 Blockbusters 13 years! I dont think this record will ever be broken in Bollywood.
Comparatively, SRK/Salman both has around 15-16 if include Tiger 3 & Dunki (TvP will probably increase both of their count to 17), & Aamir has 10-11. Unlikely that any of the Khans will get there, unless SRK’s current resurgence gives 3 more Blockbusters after TvP!
1. Zanjeer (1973)
2. Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974)
3. Deewaar (1975)
4. Sholay (1975)

Dunki – Whoever said this is Hirani’s best and that he’s outdone 3 Idiots deserves to be thrashed.
That being said, its okay if watched without the burden of watching it as a Hirani film. Same old juvenile humor, same old toilet jokes (without the novelty and comic timing of a Munnabhai or 3 Idiots), same old stale suicidal props (with a warning of course!), Hirani trying desperately to get into masala zone (with a bit of action that falls flat) and a screenplay that starts off in an interesting fashion but ends up being a snoozefest.
A disinterested Taapsee, an expectedly over the top srk (playing 30 years younger than hos age as usual) and a misfitting vicky kaushal do not help the cause.
PS -If the intention was to showcase the misery and suffering of illegal immigrants and their challenges, the plot falls flat. As flat as srk & taapsee’s chemistry and Hardy & manu’s love story.

” Shah Rukh Khan may have written history not just by delivering two blockbusters (Jawan and Pathaan) and one successful film (Dunki) in a single year but also by staging a comeback with three success stories, two of them being phenomenal hits. This may be a world cinema record for an actor who had been written off not just by the trade but also by many among the public. He proved that his comeback was far more forceful than his setback.”

Salaar is around 75-80 cr distribution price for Hindi alone.
Dunki i dont have the exact figure, but it will be in 100-120 cr range given the names involved.
Budget figure doesnt really matter, whether it was 135 cr inclusing P&A as Himesh says or its 200 cr including minimum talent fees. Its a moot point. Anyone thinking that a Hirani film with SRK was sold for peanuts to the distributors (specially after Pathaan and Jawaan) is day-dreaming.

The 1st half is shot in small set and 2nd half is shot in various countries free of cost. Even the Saudi sequence is funded by Saudi govt as it’s first Bollywood movie to be shot there and also they gave them incentive back as it promoted their place first time in movie. UK is ofcourse non-expensive for Indian movies especially shooting on the roads. Both SRK/Hirani are co-producers. There’s absolutely no way it can cost about 85 crs for shooting and 120 crs with all print, publicity and marketing which is widely reported everywhere. Now, I understand why Raju Hirani wanted to make this as much low cost as possible.

That’s Himesh’s exclusive. I said pick any important site. It was 70-75 shoot movie and that also lowers cost unlike Jawan 150 days of shooting.
***
According to sources close to the development, the cost of production for Dunki excluding the remuneration of SRK and Rajkumar Hirani is merely Rs. 90 crores. “Rajkumar Hirani is a writer, director, and editor and has a very clear vision of what he needs to shoot and how. He never wastes resources and goes ahead with proper planning of the shooting schedule. He pulled off the Dunki shoot in merely 70 days,” a source close to the development told Bollywood Hungama.
The budget of Dunki in terms of production cost excluding all talent fees is Rs. 90 crores, and the makers are all ready to spend around Rs. 30 to 35 crores on print and publicity. “It’s a clash and hence more amount will be spent to market the film. The overall cost of production including PnA is in the range of Rs. 125 to 130 crores.”

Especially this movie was launched in 2021, Hirani wanted to keep the budget as low as possible especially knowing nothing is working in Bollywood post covid. As I mentioned anyone who has seen the movie knows how economical is the movie. Don’t think it crosses 100 crs esp with such low shooting days.

Since A month back release I have been telling that budget is very less…I was not aware Himesh has confirmed this too which is as good as any confirmation in bollywood…
And this article is month before release..the trend before release is usually to say budget is high to attract eyeballs..it hypes up the movie..here it is opposite…they were saying it is low almost a month back…btw bmcm budget is being said as 300cr for same reason to hype up the project..unless the producer is a nutcase i doubt it is as high as that…I won’t be surprised till time of release they will say the budget as 300cr once it releases they will try to justify how it got back all its investment..
Dunki as most are saying is a clear success..the only issue is expectation were higher for sure whether it has recovered his distribution cost or not is not the question anyways…it surely is a result which is a bit of an under achievement from.expextation side..
Also pathaan DS was 125cr..jawaan was 125 to 140cr.. There is no way dunki DS will be same or even close to this..

Why cannot a Hirani (director of 4 biggest BBs in the last 18 years) film starring a post Jawan Srk fetch the same price as a Pathaan? Even if its lower, it’ll at least be a 100 Cr acquisition and the all India share will be in the 100-110 Cr range. So a Coverage to commission at best.

Typically they sell movies to half the production budget and rest to overseas..no production house tries to get all his earnings from India alone..pathaan budget was 200cr..india DS was 125..jawaan was 250cr..india DS was 110cr excluding south and Orissa…..it is improbable that a movie with a big star that the india DS is same or close to production budget…and srk is one thing we all know an extremely smart business man…one can say he is lousy actor but he has business sense…overseas plus India plus digital plus music are all channel to get back your money..for every movie srk is trying to get half of production budget from india DS suddenly for dunki he does something opposite knowing the genre and that it is not an big budget actioner? That is not at all common sense

Trade expectations were 500 cr from Hirani and SRK combination for a typical comedy drama. Read the reports before release if you think this is an exaggeration. That would imply 250 cr Distributor Share. Distribution price of 100-120 cr is a reasonable range considering that.
The 85 cr number thrown around maybe just the production cost. What about the talent cost? SRK and Hirani both are taking their fees from the ‘earnings’ as they are the co-producers here. It is typical that they will sell their film for highest prices that they can get from the current market – be it 200+ cr satellite deals or 100+ cr Distribution Price. That is typical business sense, which SRK supposedly has in abundance?
As i said, fans think out their arse when it comes to the films about their fav star. Need to apply the grey cells too (assuming they are there!).

Most trade websites are calling it a huge underperformer. How is it a hit. Budget should include fee of the lead actors. If you take a simulated or assumed fee of Shshrukh khan of 100 cr it’s budget is 220 cr. Profit means theatrical profits not profits from other rights to be called a hit.
