289 Responses to “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Thackeray, Uri: The Surgical Strike (ongoing), the rest of the box office”
The miracle collections of Uri – The Surgical Strike continued on the second Wednesday as it collected in the 5.75-6 crore nett range to take its total to 128 crore nett plus. The film has now comfortable crossed films like Raazi and Stree in just 13 days and will beat Badhaai Ho in a day or two.
Sanju the biggest grosser of 2018 had grossed 6.26 crore nett on its second Wednesday which was the highest second Wednesday of 2018 and Uri – The Surgical Strike is not too far off that. Basically the film has now started to compete with Sanju in terms of daily collections and it could start to beat it very soon and maybe from Thursday itself
The total business of the film after two weeks will be around the 134 crore nett mark. Not only will this be ahead of Badhaai Ho but also the likes of Toliet Ek Prem Katha and Judwaa 2. Thugs Of Hindostan will also be crossed in 15 days. The collections of Uri – The Surgical Strike till date are as follows.
#OneWordReview…#Manikarnika: POWERFUL. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ Inspiring movie that has scale and soul… Kangana, take a bow. You’re terrific… First half could be tighter. Second half awe inspiring… Climax brilliant… Power, pride, patriotism – this has it all. #ManikarnikaReviewpic.twitter.com/MLRnjBewws
Manikarnika is getting mixed reviews. From 2 stars to 4 stars. Kangana seems to have messed the movie somewhat due to her interference. Although being praised for performance as well which is not surprising.
I am actually glad that Kangana took over as director. She is a damn good one actually. I admire her courage and overall talent.
She is a one lady industry doing things at her own terms like never before. No other actress has done things like her before in the history of Indian cinema. Just for this i support her.
I also side with her in the issue with Hrithik. So far she has appeared more real. Hrithik is kind of plastic.
Something like how many took side of Salman in the Salman Vs Ais/Vivek (plastic again).
Old news.
But sharing because I admire her even more now 😀
Kangana Ranaut warns Karni Sena ahead of Manikarnika: If harassed, I will destroy each one of them
Kangana Ranaut has issued a warning to Karni Sena as the right-wing organisation threatened to protest against her film Manikarnika for “maligning Rani Laxmibai’s image”.
From many reports since a while, Manikarnika’s production costs are estimated at around 125cr. If one adds P&A costs, this looks like a very expensive film. I hope it is good enough to ensure recovery.
With K.V. Vijayendra Prasad as writer, there might still be a chance that it might be a very good film (except if the makers have messed up with his vision).
I guess the film will depend on good trending for it to work.
I the movie has Aalia or Sara, entire bollywood would have erupted. Kangana is the last woman standing.
He conquer will make Manikarnika even more special. India will erupt for her now. Mark my words.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is getting into the zone of being other people with ease. After Manto, he has hit another home run with Thackeray as far as his performance is concerned. From adapting the mannerisms to a bit of voice modulation, Nawazuddin is not Nawazuddin in the film.
Long before book release events and litfests became fashionable, writers had to depend on book reviews in Sunday papers by green-eyed, mean-minded, hideously jealous monsters. Pity that film-makers have to still depend on movie reviews by green-eyed, mean-minded, hideously…
Uri – The Surgical Strike Has Huge Trend In Week Two
Friday 25 January 2019 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Uri – The Surgical Strike grossed an excellent 62.25 crore nett in its second week and its not the number that is huge as some films have done better in week two but the trend. The film has dropped a little under 15% in its second week and that has ever happened before with collections this high. The total collections of the film are 133.50 crore nett after two weeks.
The second week collections of the film are better than the New Year blockbuster Simmba which collected 61.65 crore nett in week two. The film did have its first noticeable drop in day fourteen which makes the 200 crore nett mark difficult. Last week this film improved collections on Friday compared to Thursday and if that happens this week again then it the 200 crore nett mark will be on.
But to do this again is a huge ask as there are other major releases this week so a drop is likely though this film has always surprised in its run so far. The collections of Uri – The Surgical Strike till date are as follows.
Cold war! Is producer Bhushan Kumar deliberately clashing his films with that of Akshay Kumar?
Ever since Akshay Kumar opted out of Bhushan Kumar’s Mogul – the biopic of the latter’s late father Gulshan Kumar, there have been reports of a cold war between the superstar and the producer. Following Akshay’s withdrawal, Bhushan had even gone on to say that he would find a superstar “bigger” than him for the leading role. While the two have maintained that they are on cordial terms with each other, industry insiders claim that Bhushan was deeply hurt by Akshay’s exit from Mogul and has got even with the latter. He is now purposefully releasing his films alongside Akshay’s.
“Akshay Kumar, as we know, had backed out from Mogul, the Gulshan Kumar biopic, over script issues. T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar, the producer, was extremely upset with Akshay for quitting the film at a time when it was ready to go on floors. Ever since then, an angry Bhushan has been deliberately clashing his films with that of Akshay,” a source, on the condition of anonymity, informed us.
“First, he released Satyameva Jayate alongside Gold on Independence Day 2018 and caused the latter’s business heavy damage. Then, he announced Batla House for Independence Day 2019, a release slot that Akshay has been using for years for the release of his films. Now, Bhushan has announced his film with director Anurag Basu for September 6 when Akshay’s Good News is also coming out. Since this is a non-holiday release, the clash does look like a planned attack,” the source added. (Akshay Kumar or Abhishek Bachchan? Who will play the baddie opposite Kamal Haasan in Shankar’s Indian 2?)
It further said that Bhushan is also hatching a plan to make Diwali bitter for Akshay.
“I hear that on Diwali, too, he is planning to give Akshay a tough fight. He may release his Shashanka Ghosh directorial with Housefull 4,” the source said signing off.
Pointless, move on. Don’t mess with India’s #1 superstar! Anyway the chances of clashing with Akshay’s films are as high as Trump saying something pretty stupid today – very high!
Looking at how Uri has performed and with the Gold Vs Satyamev Jayate…it was SJ that suffered.
Gold got to what it could. Cannot see it getting more.
But now after URI’s collections, Satyamev Jayate is looking ordinary considering the genre. It lost big time with plexes.
The same is going to happen with Mission Mangal Vs Batla House on 15th Aug and Good News Vs Basu’s untitled. T Series production is set to lose around 50-75Cr from this clash.
Ab baap ka black money hai then it is a different thing. Losing money at dance bar and on movies would then be same.
SJ is considered a hit and Gold isn’t. Simply put SJ won this clash on economics. Both lost business but SJ was not aiming for the skies. It did well enough considering star and cast. URI can’t be used to downvalue SJ performance, might as well compare Gold to CDI then and say it was a disaster relative to CDI.
Gold is not even a patch of CDI which i think is the greatest sports movie of India, at par with Lagaan.
Gold was an average movie and if not for Akshay would have flopped.
But SJ was very good at single screen. Movie was also good. It became a HIT but could be a superhit if not for the clash.
Yes but simple fact that SJ did better economics wise tells you the winner of clash. Gold is probably a way better movie but that’s a different conversation.
I think Gold went as far as it could. it opened big but was not really liked by the audience. it worked on its opening day and then during its first week end. But the trending was poor from there on. It started at 25cr and ended at 105cr.
A more appreciated movie would have built on its strong opening. But it couldn’t.
SMJ was front loaded. Opened great and did its business in its first 3 days. In its case, the job was done during those few days.
A front loaded project like SMJ has its limits. But a vigilant film aimed for the masses with an item song that temporarily was a rage, grossing 80cr net does not look a big deal now.
But Gold was let down by poor execution. A film that was supposed to be content-based but was let down by underwhelming writing and direction. While Akshay Kumar ensured the opening, the lack of appreciation translated into poor trending, one of the worsts for a Kumar movie.
There was space for both films on that day. But both films had limits. SMJ was a hit but was hardly uprooting trees. Gold was underwhelming as a film and it showed in its collections.
If both were better projects, there would have been bigger competition and they would have affected each other more. Both finally did well only for a few days.
FYI only got into this as Naveen is trying to sell SJ short but not doing same with Gold. I doubt people expected what SJ did back then and you can guarantee more was expected from Gold but once a film underwhelmes all bets are off.
The verdicts determine which film did better overall.
One should not focus on peripheri when the main focus of my point was something different.
But Jayshah has a perennials habit of this and the discussion take a tangential direction and late blaming me for the tangent. 😀
I think Bhushan has taken the snub to his heart. He thought he is dealing with the Akshay Kumar of 90s who will do any movie for money. The music czar is one of the most powerful person in the industry and often flexes his muscles thru music and production deals. T series in music is like Jio in telecom. But Bhushan Kumar is no Mukesh Ambani. One should not make business a machine to pursue personal goals.
He announced he will get a bigger star than Akshay Kumar.
Since then whoever he went to flopped. He will have to wait for younger lot now to make his dream come true – na na…not to make a movie on Gulshan but to get a bigger star than Akshay to play Gulshan.
Gullu Gullu !!!! 😀 😀
“Main rahoon ya na rahoon, Bharat rehena chahiye” is the essence of ‘Manikarnika’. The lone Queen would have succeeded had her own not betrayed her. A lesson we need to learn & teach future Indians. A must see movie on the eve of Republic Day. Jai Hind !
#Manikarnika has all the potential to get BLOCKBUSTER VERDICT, each and every scene looks RICH, #KanganaRanaut hv delivered her Career Best Performance..#Manikarnika is a MUST WATCH FILM …. 4*/5

Manikarnika Ordinary Start – Thackeray Low
Friday 25 January 2019 15.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi had an ordinary opening of 15-20% when it should have opened better considering the scale of the film. The problem is mass markets as UP, MP, Rajasthan etc should have had better collections. Maybe as the face value is limited to Kangana Ranaut who is not a big star has kept the audience way initially.
The opening will be okay if we look other heroine driven films but its a tough task to reach the biggest which was Veere Di Wedding featuring Kareena Kapoor. The hope will be the evening push as its a big national holiday. The film is the biggest budget film ever which has a heroine as the only face so there will have to be a huge jump over the weekend for the film.
There was a film made on the same story in 1953 called Jhansi Ki Rani which was one of the two big colour films made in India, the other being the Dilip Kumar starrer Aan. The colour prints of the film have been lost in time so only the black and white version survives. An English version of the film was also shot called The Tiger And The Flame and was released in USA a few years later. The colour print of that version survives though its an edited version of the original film probably due to the songs which were not needed for USA.
Jhansi Ki Rani was made on a huge budget at that time of around 50 lakhs inclusive of prints and promotion and proved to be a huge disaster with recovery being hardly 40% of the costs. The hope will be Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi can pick up and not go that way.
The other release Thackeray had a low start of around 10% though the film is far better in Maharashtra where the bulk of the collections are coming from even though there is a Marathi version of the film playing in the state. The film only really has chances in Maharashtra and surrounding areas.
Uri – The Surgical Strike has maintained rock steady collection again on the third Friday and is pretty much unaffected by the new releases. Its hard to expect the same trend as last week where the film jumped on Friday but it will still a very solid third Friday.
Agreed. Using the Ae Watan song is a brilliant idea here. It is the main thing that makes the teaser work. The rest is about JA in different get-ups.
It may turn out to be an interesting film or concept. There are not too many films on RAW. But the teaser simply does not show enough (probably intentionally).
Quentin Tarantino was six years old and living in the Los Angeles area when, in the summer of 1969, hell broke loose. You know this story: five people murdered over the course of two days that August, shot and stabbed by a clan of hippie impressionables in anticipation of Helter Skelter, Charles Manson’s idea of holy terror. It’s a Hollywood tale—not least because its most famous victim, the pregnant actress Sharon Tate, was the wife of director Roman Polanski, which put the terror square in the back lot’s backyard.
Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi was below the mark on day one as it collected around 7.50 crore nett on day one. The film was a wide release with over 3000 screens but was unable to penetrate the mass with collections mainly coming from the bigger multiplexes
The film should have done much better in places like UP, MP and Rajasthan but these places had dissappointing collections. Mumbai, Gujarat and South were always likely to have lower collections so it is not really surprising that these places have not collected well. The best collections for the film have come in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida belt.
The first day number is still fair if we look at it from the point of heroine driven films but considering the cost of the film the film really needed a double digit or higher first day number. Despite the scale there was limited face value and no music which has probably affected the initial of the film.
There is the big holiday on Saturday which will push up the collections but from this level its unlikely the film can do what it should be doing on a big national holiday. The crunch will be Sunday when the film will have to show collections matching or even going higher than the national holiday depending on where the Republic Day figures land.
The other major release of the week Thackeray grossed around 2.75 crore nett in Hindi with bulk of the collections coming from Mumbai circuit. The collections were pretty dull outside Mumbai circuit with collections getting worse further North you went. Like a Gurgaon or Noida were better compared to a Amritsar or Jammu.
The film will will only really have chances in Maharashtra but if it is to go anywhere then the film really has to show a big turnaround in collections in Delhi / UP. When a film can score in Mumbai and Delhi / UP then it always be at least reasonable business even on a worse case scenario.
The Republic Day holiday will also help push this film but the real story will be post the holiday. The film ws also released in Marathi which had good numbers and could cros 2 crore nett in this format.
Top Female Lead Driven Opening Days – Manikarnika Fifth
Saturday 26 January 2019 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi has emerged the fifth highest opener where the film is driven by the female star of the film. In another words the main or sometimes only face value is the heroine. The top film is Veere Di Wedding which is the only one going over 10 crore nett.
The two Sunny Leone starrers are driven by the sex / horror genre which leaves Kareena Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut with two films each though Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a franchise and Manikarnika – Queen Of Jhansi is being driven more the scale. The later should have really been in first place as the budget is far higher than all the other films. In fact all the others are below 50 crore while this is over 90 crore.
Kareena Kapoor has Veere Di Wedding and Heroine which is the best returns for an actress if we take out other factors which makes it the only heroine to have two films in top ten. Priyanka Chopra has one film and Alia Bhatt has one film. The dominant heroines of the last 5-7 years Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone have no films. Shraddha Kapoor has one but even here its the horror genre which can do well without a star cast.
There are only nine films with collections over 5 crore nett and some are driven by genre factor so it shows how difficult it is for the heroine driven film to open. The top opening days by films driven by the main female lead are as follows.
1. Veere Di Wedding – 10,42,00,000 (Kareena Kapoor)
2. Tanu Weds Manu Returns – 8,61,00,000 (Kangana Ranuat)
3. Mary Kom – 8,32,00,000 (Priyanka Chopra)
4. Ragini MMS 2 – 7,93,00,000 (Sunny Leone)
5. Manikarnika – Queen Of Jhansi – 7,50,00,000 (Kangana Ranaut)
So now a female-buddy film like VDW with at least 3 known faces becomes the exclusive vehicle of ONLY one Kareena, and is demonstrative of her StarPower! Sonam Kapoor mustve really been invisible throughout to BOI!
Also, the Sunny Leone film’s were sex-driven, but VDW is perhaps Ram Katha to BOI!!
Wonder what has driven BOI to now start licking Kareena’s backside.?
Uri – The Surgical Strike Still Very Strong
Saturday 26 January 2019 12.15 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Uri – The Surgical Strike is still going very strong in its third week as it collected 4.50-4.75 crore nett on its third Friday. This takes the collections of the film over 138 crore nett its pretty much certain that the 150 crore nett mark will be crossed before the end of the weekend.
The film has dropped around 35-40% from last Friday while last Friday the drop was only 10% apprx. But this is mainly because of two new releases and its still a huge trend. The lifetime mark is still difficult to judge as there is weaker competition over the next two weeks. the 175 crore nett mark is there for the film and the 200 crore nett looks an uphill task but cannot be written of entirely just yet.
TOTAL – 1,38,24,00,000 apprx
Manikarnika Co-Director Krish BREAKS Silence: “Don’t Think How Kangana Ranaut Can Sleep Well By Taking The First Credit”
He even took a stand for Sonu saying, “I don’t blame Sonu for quitting. His run time was 100 minutes and it was being chopped to 60 minutes. Who will agree? Nobody would.”
In a recent interview with the entertainment porta,l SpotboyE, Krish revealed that the issues began at the post production stage while Kangana had gone shooting for her other project – Mental Hai Kya. When she came back, she expressed concern over other actors empowering her.
“I had finished my entire edit in June. I had completed all the reels and even given them for sound recording. Everybody even dubbed but not Kangana. She was shooting for Mental in London.
She later said that she had few small concerns. After few days, she said that iska jyaada hai, uska jyaada hai, this girl is overpowering, that girl is overpowering. Then she came up with yeh change karna hai, woh change karna hai. She also said that Kamal Jain (producer) hadn’t liked the film.”
As per the director, he even agreed to some changed until Sonu Sood’s part came into the picture.
“I agreed to make some changes. We decided we needed to shoot for additional 6 days. Kangana was not required in that extra time. She suddenly rose to say that Sonu’s character should be killed at the interval point. This was completely against history. Sonu was playing an important antagonist, he had a beautiful arc in the story and we had shot with him beautifully for 35 days, Sadashiv (Sonu’s character) would have died in the film but just little before Laxmibai’s death.”
He continued, “Then I came away to Hyderabad to start with my next, the NTR biopic and I got a call that they were doing re-recordings on the film that I had made. Not over yet, the editor was changed. The editor who had worked with me was asked to leave.
Saw Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, I found it below average and became repetitive after the leads knew each other positions.
Also saw Stree – It was fun movie..could have been better but I liked this attempt horror-comedy genre…In some way it in Tumbbad genre but handled differently.
So leakage by tamil rockers did not affect second day.
Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ released yesterday and got mixed reviews from critics. The film is hugely hailed for Kangana’s performance. But unfortunately, the film became a target for notorious piracy site Tamilrockers. Recently, we heard that Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Thackeray’ got leaked by the same site and now Manikarnika too is facing the same crisis.
Due to this, the film couldnt perform well at the box office and failed to fulfill the expectations of the makers. Ranaut’s movie was expected to earn around Rs 10-11 crore but day one opening was around 7 to 8 crore. This is the same site that leaked Vicky Kaushal’s military drama ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ online. Apart from this, films like ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, ‘Petta’ and ‘Viswasam’ were also leaked online by Tamilrockers.
Most of the films said to be leaked have done or doing great business. If a film does not do well, they say tamil rockers responsible and if it does inspite of them, then?
Marnikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi had huge growth of around 130-140% on the big national holiday and this is double the growth it would have had on the normal Saturday. The collections will be in the 18-19 crore nett range which will take the film to 26-27 crore nett in two days.
The collections will be the highest single day ever for a female driven film but that is mainly because its very unlikely these films get a chance to have a release when there is a national holiday. It will easily beat the numbers of another Kangana Ranaut film Tanu Weds Manu Returns which collected 15.85 crore nett on Sunday which the highest day ever for a female driven film.
Despite the huge growth there is still a lot of work for the film to do because there is a big cost involved. The test will be on Sunday as the film cannot afford to drop a lot from this Saturday number and then the crucial Monday.
It asmuses me that after almost spending 3 decade in Bollywood SRK still does not know how to pick a decent to good movie or know mood of the nation. Even Kangna know it. So is Akshay. I mean Patriotic movies are the current mood and SRK rejected ‘Sare Jahan se accha’ and choosed DON 3. How can Someone work a movie like ZERO ?
That’s a lot of weight Aamir seems to have put on. Probably rules out FG remake or Krishna’s role in MB. Except if Aamir is merely taking a sabbatical before preparing for his next film.
watched few minutes of Aamir’s “Rubaru Roshni”, looks good – but a serious subject….well may catch up the rest later…..i think this “social thinker” in aamir has killed the entertainer in him…
Agree with you. Found the story the Farmer and the Nun to be the best. The last one is a little bit off to be honest. But these are personal stories -so perhaps forgiving to attain closure may work
It is like crime stories with a different treatment. Especially the second one.
The first one can be made into a movie with Alia Bhatt as Avantika.
The third one was close to my heart because it is my city for several years. We could not go out for three days out of fear and tension. We just stuck to our TV sets and praying that the nightmare is over. Just unbelievable scenes unfolded before our eyes. We just skipped sleep for news and developments. I think the infamous journalist’s episode happenend during those times. Vilas rao deshmukh was the CM and RGV’s visit to him. So many things happenend during and afterwards. I remember all those things but the memories are blurred. When I saw those clippings, the memories came back of those terrible times.
Uri – The Surgical Strike is back in the chase for the 200 crore nett mark with a huge third Saturday after the drop on the third Friday. the film collected 9.75 crore nett on its third Saturday which has taken the film to a total of nearly 148 crore nett..
The 200 crore nett mark is in its sights and if the film holds well in week four and five there is a chance that this will film will become the first 200 crore nett film which has been produced and released with a cost of under 50 crore. Uri – The Surgical Strike is going very strong in Mumbai where the collections are around 55 crore nett. In Mysore the film is collected in the East Punjab range in week two and week three when the circuit is hardly half of East Punjab..
It was a national holiday on Saturday so the film will take a drop on Saturday but a minimal drop could mean the week heading to a 35 crore nett plus total. The collections of Uri – The Surgical Strike till date are as follows.

Responding to this writer’s health query, Rishi Kapoor says, “My treatment is on, hopefully I will recover soon and God willing I will return. The procedure is long and tedious and one needs immense patience which unfortunately is not one of my virtue.”
Rishi says he has put aside his acting career for the moment, “Thankfully, I am not thinking about films anymore, just want to be blank and refresh myself with a more relaxed mind. This break shall be therapeutic for me.”
If all goes well, Rishi Kapoor should be home by April.

Aamir Khan: My son Junaid could do my biopic
Aamir Khan also revealed that the family is on the lookout for a good script for Junaid Khan’s big Bollywood debut.
When asked who could reprise his role in his biopic. After a pause, he replied, “I think Junaid (his son) can do it. He might be a good choice.”
He further shared that the family is on the lookout for a good script for Junaid Khan’s big Bollywood debut. The actor said, “He has studied acting and has been doing theatre for more than a year. But I believe in the power of screen test. So Junaid would have to go through the grind and prove himself. As a father, my only advice to him is that he should play leads but only those that are characters. This is a rule I follow and really believe in. More than being a hero, you need to live a character on screen. That’s the joy of acting.”
“I’ll start preparing for my next because I have to look slim and lean. There are two films (in consideration) and in both of then I have to look lean,” he said.
Aamir was rumoured to be making his much ambitious series on Mahabharat.
When asked about it’s status, the actor said, “I never announced Mahabharat. You all assumed I’m making it then you assumed I’m not! When I want to make something I’ll tell you.”
“I don’t want to respond to speculations. When I announce something, I should’ve answers to that,” he added.
Naveen, Aamir should follow Akshay here and sign up all those 4 good scripts and release in next year (or 2 yrs). That would be best for everyone – Aamir himself, film industry and primarily fans.

Manikarnika Does Well On Sunday
Sunday 27 January 2018 23.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi did well on Sunday as it collected 14-15 crore nett on Sunday and it will be a healthy weekend of around 40 crore nett but the problem is this has come on a big holiday weekend and take out the holiday factor and then you are looking at business in the same range as other female driven films like Veere Di Wedding and Raazi.
The difference being that Veere Di Wedding and Raazi were made at less than half the cost of Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi. The drop will be in the 15-20% range from Saturday which is par for the course and it would be in a better position if the drop was in the 5-10% range.
The problem going forward will be that Maharashtra, Gujarat and Nizam / Andhra have not appreciated the film and these markets are sure to struggle in the long run but there is still hope in other areas and the next few days will tell what sort of appreciation the film has in places like Delhi / UP, Rajasthan and East Punjab.
Thackeray (Hindi) has not done well. The collections are better in Maharashtra but still cant be good as exhibitors change to the Marathi version which despite having no growth from day one has done very well as it opened strongly.

Vicky Kaushal: How the Boy With Bad Teeth Conquered Bollywood
Vicky Kaushal doesn’t possess the conventional Bollywood traits, but he has proven his worth with every film. Mozez Singh, who directed Vicky in Zubaan, recalls how he was in the beginning.
I can never forget the first time I met Vicky Kaushal. It was late evening and he landed up at my office to audition for my debut feature, Zubaan. He may have been the 400th actor who was coming to audition.
We had been auditioning actors for over five months and I had rejected each one of them. I was at the end of my tether. Having spent so many years writing the script of Zubaan, I was very clear about the actor I wanted. It was a deeply frustrating time for me and when my producer Guneet Monga suggested Vicky’s name to me, the first thing she said was ‘he’s only an AD, not an actor, so don’t raise your hopes, but give it a shot.’
By then I was so desperate, I would have auditioned a tree.
So in walked this tall, skinny, scrawny fellow with bad skin and bad teeth but with a hunger and earnestness in his eyes that none of the other 400 boys before him had. I took a good look at him and internally decided that I was not going to cast him. He seemed too unpolished, too far removed from the actor I needed but in an effort to be kind to him, I auditioned him nonetheless.
I gave him the sides and then disinterestedly waited while he prepared himself. But my jaw dropped once I said action. The way he delivered the scene-the sensitivity, the intensity, the heft he displayed, I could not believe my senses. It gave me goosebumps.
I made him audition many scenes that evening. Each time he was better than the last. Then I called him to my office the next day and for the next 10 days and made him test each scene from the script. Every day he was better than the last. He was phenomenal.
I’m not at all surprised to see Vicky’s spectacular rise. What the audience has seen of him till now is nothing. He is a consummate all-rounder, he can deliver anything. And I mean that-ANYTHING. I have seen him do it all and his brilliance is rare and unparalleled. The more complex the part, the more easily he will succeed. With big tent pole films like Takht in his grasp, he will shine blindingly.
But it is his understanding of reality that will always be his ultimate trump card. I hope he never loses that. I don’t think he will. He has a loving family that has no time for the fluff of stardom. They keep each other real and I have witnessed this at close quarters.
And thus, in spite of all the ‘josh’ around Vicky right now, I know he has his feet firmly planted on the ground, his head tightly screwed on his shoulders, his heart full of gratitude while he blasts his favourite Punjabi rap on his ghetto blaster and gets down, because it’s time to celebrate and celebrate he must.
Big hug Dilsher (Vicky Kaushal’s character in Zubaan).
(Mozez Singh has directed Vicky Kaushal in critically acclaimed Zubaan. He has also produced films like Peddlers, Haraamkhor and White Noise.)
So a question was raised if he has forgiven his TOH director Vijay Krishna Acharya aka Victor for giving him a flop film. He said, “I don’t need to forgive Victor. Every director that I’ve worked with, they are good and their intentions are good. We all aim to make a good film but sometimes it doesn’t happen. Filmmaking is difficult. I’m a team player. If my director has gone wrong, I’ve gone wrong with him. I don’t mind failing with my director on his or her instincts. I don’t have a problem. I believe in the director and if he has gone wrong, I have too. We will learn from our mistakes.”
He further added, “Audience came to watch the film on my name. So it was my responsibility. To that audience, I feel Personally and fully responsible. I’ve met a lot of people who told me they liked the film. But I don’t judge these things. I think the audience has full right to say exactly what they want and they can be harsh in their criticism, that’s their right.”
He also said that he hasn’t given a flop for a while hence the audiences took out frustration. “If there was a certain amount of harshness, so be it. Also, I didn’t give a flop film for a long time! So people got an opportunity to take out their frustration, which is good too. It’s been years since I have had a failure. The best thing to do to from a failure is to do a good film, which I plan to do,” he concluded.”
There is nothing wrong with social films. In fact, films with a social message have been the Hallmark of Aamir’s best phase.
What he should avoid at all costs is another Thugs kind of deal. The whole basis of Thugs lied on on only 1 thing: it was merely a money making scheme, nothing else. The economics of the film were such that YRF were always safe. Others were to bear financial losses, if any. There was no pressure, desire, urge or motivation at all to deliver quality cinema.
All Aamir should do is to only avoid any deal invioving such a banner and such premises.
The focus should be on quality and substantiality. And not too much delay.
No matter what, he shot major parts of it. He said he shot for 109 days and then did post-production work. So, he probably deserves part of the credit for anything the film earns. Kangana re-shot parts of it, so the credits probably need to be shared and acknowledged at the very least.
The action scenes and the climax are being lauded the most and even the producer admitted these were shot by Krish.
The question of taking credits has been an issue for the last recent Kangana films. It has been a recurring thing.
At the end of the day, one can only hope the film works. It would be good for all the stake-holders. It has had a good week-end.
How does she sucks? It was a common knowledge he left Manikarnika in middle for NTR biopic.Ab jaaga hai yeh jab itni praise mil rahi hai movie ko.Jab movie beech mein chodh kar chala gaya tha NTR ke liye tab kyun nahi bola tha?
Slap for all Kangana haters.Prasoon Joshi a man with great integrity and a part of Manikarnika team speaks.
Kangana hasn’t only given an outstanding performance she’s also elevated thefilm toanother level thru her Direction n commitment.Let not any controversy take that away from her. It’s been a tough journey n am all fr celebrating everyone’s contribution. Here’s 2team #Manikarnika
Manikarnika 4.5crr Monday as per BOI. Looks like 80crr finish. Disappointing numbers. Looks like URI have really hurted it’s box office prospect to certain extent.
I think all sites and commentators are in too much of a hurry to give box office verdict to Manikarnika. Some crowds are genuinely going crazy over this film. It’s a bit of a strange beast this one. The end of the second weekend will provide a clearer picture as to how long the film could sustain for.
Just for pleasure of the two fighting in public space:
Star comparison between Kangana and Hrithik: Kangana Beats Hrithik hands down.
Both Kangana and Hrithik gave a similar genre movie Manikarnika and Mohenjodaro. Both got holiday release and one competition. Manikarnika also had Uri which is still running to packed theatres.
So far, Kangana is leading and Manikarnika has not only got better review but is also leading in the overall box office performance.
This makes Kangana a bigger draw at Box Office than Hrithik. In fact latter’s movie Super30 would not have got an opening if it were to release on the same day. Kangana all the way so far!!!
There has been paid interviews by Krish to undermine Kangana’s contribution but he is getting laughed at. He left the movie when the producers wanted him to make changes. Thanks to Kangana who took no money from the producers to complete the film. Krish has made a mocekry of himself but some handsome money in the process.
I don’t want to say much about Kangana’s trickery in stealing the credit of the movie. Simple proof is that Krish’s name is given as Radha Krishna Jagarmurdi which is on his passport. He says he never used that name in any industry but Kangana’s team figured out his real name and used it to confuse people and audience so that no one remembers that 2nd director’s name.
Aug 15: First Look poster – Directed by Krish
Oct 2: Teaser – Directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi
Dec 18: Trailer of movie – Directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi & Kangana Ranaut
Jan 26: Movie – Directed by Kangana Ranaut & Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi
Very easy to figure out facts in this case. Southern movie directors shoot very fast and they complete huge projects quickly. Krish’s last movie Gautamiputra Satakarni released on Jan 2017 was the reason he got Manikarnika project which he had completed in 6 months and was huge boxoffice success. Checkout the trailer on youtube. If a director can make that film in 6 months, he is very good for period movies for lesser budget.
All the talks have done and Manikarnika was launched in May 2017 for an April 2018 release with Krish as director. Krish left to Jhansi to do his own research for the action sequences and history part and to give his feedback to the writer. He spent a year and then shot the movie for 109 days and they were little behind on schedule. Meanwhile he had to take up another project down south where Balakrishna (who was his last hero – Gautamiputra Satakarni fired the director of his father’s biopic NTR and the project was already on floors and Krish had to jump in last minute to salvage that project). So, movie was ready and he left to South to direct NTR movie and meanwhile they spoke during poster launch on Aug 15th and everything looked fine. Once some patchwork was being done in Sep/Oct which turned out to be huge 2nd schedule coz of Kangana. In Kangana’s own words, she didn’t shoot any action or climax(which is getting the most praises). Even in drama sequences, its looking at the same shot which is shot but making it more better. That’s usually done by 2nd unit directors as there is not much creativity in that. Directing something from blank paper and script to something on screen is different but directing a same scene differently is any person who has been to movie sets can do it and usually done by 2nd unit directors or patch work directors.
Krish’s version said he was trying to make Jhansi story but with all the supporting characters which are part of history and he was not trying to make a Kangana Ranaut movie. Whereas its very obvious that Kangana wanted it to be Kangana movie and not a movie with strong supporting characters who can walk with the credit. That’s one of the biggest complaints of movie that she is everywhere and in every frame and no other character has been developed or shown properly. You can’t make great movies with just 1 character hogging all the scenes, you do need great supporting characters too especially if they are part of history too.
We already know Sonu Sood’s story and even Atul Kulkarni is same. His character is actually very big even in history for Jhansi’s character and he was also in 1st look of the poster.
The film is going further down today, unfortunately (as per Addatoday- it is 15% less than Monday morning).
I think BOI have been quite kind to its prospects in its report yesterday. 80cr looks a tall order right now. 75cr lifetime total looks more likely.
The irony is that while there seems to be a tug of war between Krish and Kangana on who takes credits right now, in a couple of weeks time, it may be very much end up being a mud slinging contest on who takes the blame for the film flopping and making losses.
I think if the movie doesnt do well, Kangana will be first person to take the responsibility and Krish the last person, esp the way noone from Manikarnika team is backing Krish’s version.
See what Prasoon Joshi has said.
Uri – The Surgical Strike is heading for a huge third week as it collected 3 crore nett apprx on its third Monday taking its four day total in the third week to over 26 crore nett. The total business of the film has crossed 160 crore nett.
The third week of the film is heading for 34 crore nett which will be the fourth highest third week collection of all time after Bahubali – The Conclusion, Dangal and PK. It will easily beat the best third weeks of last year which were Padmaavat at 30 crore nett and Sanju at 29 crore nett.
The only thing left to be seen is whether this film can reach 200 crore nett. It is an uphill task but with limited competition for two weeks there is a chance. The collections of Uri – The Surgical Strike till date are as follows.
Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jansi has had a fair hold on Monday but should have done a little better as the first day was on the lower side. The film will have drop of around 40% from Friday with collections in the 4.50 crore nett region as per early estimates.
The film has decent collections on Monday in Delhi / UP, Rajasthan and CI but most other circuits are below the mark. The total collections of the film after four days will be 45 crore nett and the week should go to around 56-57 crore nett.
The overall business of the film is fair but this is mainly due to the big Republic Day holiday and without that the week could have been down below 50 crore nett. The collections may be decent but the problem is that appreciation is not there which is a must for a female drive film as they dont open well. the plus is an open run over the next two weeks which should help the film.
Krish (born Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi) is an Indian film director, known for his works in Telugu cinema and Bollywood. He made his directorial debut in 2008 with Gamyam and followed it up with Vedam in 2010. Both films garnered widespread critical acclaim, fetching him the Nandi Award and Filmfare Award for Best Director. In 2015, he directed the period war drama film, Kanche setup in Nazi Germany, the film has garnered the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.[1] Kanche was selected for the Indiwood Panorama Competition section at the 2nd edition of Indiwood Carnival 2016 in Hyderabad.[2] In 2017, his directorial venture Gautamiputra Satakarni has gained critical acclaim and a huge box office success.[3] He directed the epic Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released on 25 January 2019.[4]
Unlike Mahanati about late Savitri, NTR biop[ic is eulogising him without going into some less unsavoury aspects. While Mahanati dealt with all the aspects of Savitri’s life. That is why Mahanati was a big success while NTR hagiography was underwhelming. Hope Krish chooses better subjects and better producers. He should now move on. Let us see how YSR biopic turns out.

Kangana Ranaut Elevated Manikarnika As Director, Says Film’s Writer Prasoon Joshi After Krish’s Viral Interview
Manikarnika row: Krish alleged 70 per cent of the film’s final version was shot by him while Rangoli Chandel says it’s Kangana’s work
Kangana hasn’t only given an outstanding performance she’s also elevated thefilm toanother level thru her Direction n commitment.Let not any controversy take that away from her. It’s been a tough journey n am all fr celebrating everyone’s contribution. Here’s 2team #Manikarnika
#Uri: The surgical strike film: made tax free in Uttar Pradesh says UP CM @myogiadityanath so that more and more youth, ex-servicemen see the valour of the braves. No state GST on Uri. (Uri is based on Indian Army's #surgicalstrike into PoK post the Uri terror attack. Nice film)
I think we saw with Gabbar that Krish is a good director. He also seems to have a good track record in the south.
If he has devoted over a year to the project and shot for 109 days, then he must have contributed significantly to it.
When he went to shoot NTR, Kangana also went to shoot and complete the Rajkumar Rao project.
When we look at the time frame, it makes things quite obvious. In early September, Kangana started shooting for the remaining patchwork. She then later reportedly took over the project.
It looks a very improbable task to shoot most of such a film from September and then do post production and then market and release the film by January.
Also, Kangana is not at her first attempt to usurp credit. For the first time, you can believe her completely. But this is happening with her 2nd release in a row. With director Krish, it has never happened before, This raises doubts.
Also, there were some interviews recently with a couple of Ranaut’s female co-stars in the film like Anita Lokhande etc.. They were praising Kangana as an actress. But when asked about Kangana’s directorial prowess, the answers were very vague. It’s almost as if they evaded the question.
When you also look at Sonu Sood’s and Atul Kulkarni’s fates in the film, it does also seem to point towards the fact that all of them felt like they were being marginalised when Kangana took over.
I may be wrong, but when looking objectively at the facts given, it does seem Krish has his own share of contribution to the film. Kangana may have shot or re-shot portions of the film. But the claim that that she shot most of the final product seems highly implausible.
On the other hand, she has a history of the behaviour she is being accused of. I think there is a deliberate attempt to deprive Krish of acknowledgement of his contribution here.
Also Krish is from South industry which is extremely disciplined in filma-making so if he gave dates for 2 or 3 months – which has to be that much only and not more. But Kangana took an eternity and Krish cant just wait and see things like that.
Why to doubt Kangana if the writers, producers and those who are still with the project are backing her?
Also i do not buy the logic that 109 days was good enough to complete a project. In big projects, reshooting the portions and reworking as per writer’s advise is a norm. If Krish couldn’t continue because of prior commitments then fine. But he has no reason to malign Kangana. Remember the entire team is backing Kangana and on their advise did her name appears in directorial credit.
“Why to doubt Kangana if the writers, producers and those who are still with the project are backing her?”
Only Prasoon Joshi (dialogue and lyrics) and producer are with Kangana here. Writer Vijayndera Prasad wanted to be left out and he’s not supporting either of them in this controversy. None of the actors are with Kangana. Anyways, even if you read any review you can figure out that none of the supporting actors have got any good graph of their characters and its only about Kangana’s role on screen.
A film of Rani Laxmi bai has to be on her. This is not 1857 mutiny.
However i understand the larger point you are making. This definitely seems to be a drawback but suggesting that Kangana is to be blamed for this is far fetched.
Watched Life in a Metro on netflix. Interesting movie. Shilpa Shetty got more footage and she did a good job. I liked her in Baazigar too.
The ending was not satisfactory in my opinion. That death scene of Shivani was not required. Irrfan should not have abandoned his dulhania for Konkona at the last moment. There should be some humanity. And Shilpa should not have forgiven Kaykay the cheater, the double standards man. Only Neha tying up with Rahul looked good. Manoj Pahwa was good in his brief role as a doctor. And Dharmendra overshadowed all the heroes.
The last portions were too filmy.
Naveen.. its pretty basic to understand. Prasoon joshi and producer will support Kangana even if she’s wrong. She’s their star for the movie and also she’s from Bollywood. Its like in a fight between your house member and outsider, you won’t support outsider even if your family person is wrong. Krish is from southern movie industry, why would they care him? They don’t even need to talk or keep relations with him. If it was another Bollywood director the scenario would have been different.
Secondly, don’t you see the fact about removing Krish name and calling it Radha Krishna Jagalarmudi. Lol, how can anyone ignore the blatant trickery here? If it was Krish all the audience would remember the director’s name.. now no will even remember that long name.
“Kangana has done 20-25 per cent of the first half and 10-15% in the second half. I didn’t shoot a song and I didn’t shoot her entry scene. In the second half, she has even re-shot some scenes which I had done in a different way,” the South Indian director claimed.
Also the controversy is pretty simple. No one is saying Kangana has not shot anything for the movie.
Kangana saying 70% she has shot.
Krish is saying 25% in 1st half and 10% in 2nd half is shot by Kangana which makes it 35%.
So, now if you are supporting Kangana means you are believing that Kangana has really shot 70% and not 35%?
As I said, I don’t buy the fact that Kangana shot 70 per cent of the film in a few weeks time.
If 109 days shoot wasn’t enough for an experienced director like Krish ( he has made epic costume dramas previously), then I can’t see how Kangana can do it in a few weeks time.
See finally these are producer’s call, whose name has to be given more credit.
If producers felt Kangana’s contribution is more so be it. It’s their money. It also shows how much damage Krish did to the project for this fall out.
It is easy to point fingers but credit has to go to the one who finished the job for the person paying the money and for the team involved.
Now if the entire team is ganging up against Krish for no fault of his, then i will say they all are wrong. But Krish has made this an ego battle with Kangana and that’s why i think he is wrong. For me team’s and producers’ opinion are most important.
Point To Be Noted… There's no sense in now talking about how @DirKrish would have directed #Manikarnika… #KanganaRanaut saved the film when Krish left it midway. She directed it with her own vision, postponed the shoot of #Panga for it and made it release as scheduled. https://t.co/AKuXVFvtp0
“See finally these are producer’s call, whose name has to be given more credit.”
If the producer is a new person, he’ has nothing to say except bow down to the star. He will surely not piss off Kangana as he needs her to complete the movie and release it. Isn’t it obvious?
It is unfortunate that Kangana is perpetrating what she claimed she had undergone and was protesting. It is ultimately the producer’s call and even if the claims of shooting 70% is true, changing the director’s identity and taking the first credit( instead of a joint one) is pathetic to say the least. Isn’t this a form of #METOO?
Case of the powerful taking undue advantage ?
As for guys like Prasoon Joshi, they are still part of the team of the film. It is about team ethic. They won’ be saying anything that hurts the films prospects and puts in further controversy.
It would have been another story if Kangana had taken credit as writer as well.
absolutely. Krish is a gentleman and comes from a disciplined South industry where films are made on a tight schedule and they stick to it to T. Now here KR tried to act smart and that man had another committment for NTR – and how can he let it go just becoz KR had fancied some changes at the last minute? KR is acting weird under the desguise of “being different” or a “rebel” or a “woman who thinks different” etc. I avoid KR’s films since last few years. She needs to get her acts straight and be a good human first.
Uri – The Surgical Strike is rock steady in its third week as it takes its third week total to almost 30 crore nett which is what films like Sanju and Padmaavat did in their respective third weeks but the difference here is that the 30 crore nett has come five days.
The film is rock steady with hardly any drop from the previous day. The third week will cross 35 crore nett and then that race to 200 crore nett will be on with the fourth Friday being very crucial. if the collections dont drop on the fourth Friday then 200 crore nett will happen for the film.
Uri – The Surgical Strike will probably cross the business of Race 3 today which was the fourth highest grossers of last year.. The collections of Uri – The Surgical Strike till date are as follows.
Mishti said that though she was doubtful, director Krish had a different vision for Kashi Bai as someone who is an emotional anchor to the Queen. The disgruntled actress then said, “We began shooting for the film and there were lot of things to be shot. There were a lot of fighting and horse riding scenes.” Interestingly, these scenes never saw the light of the day as they were edited from the final copy of the film. Mishti then said that a lot of her scenes with heavy duty drama shot with Kangana also did not see the light of the day. “Kashibai was the main emotional side of Rani Laxmibai. The scene where she hands over the baby to me, this was beautifully shot by Krish. It was not complete. But I dubbed for it and it came out really well.”
Mishti recalled that she was suddenly informed that Krish was not coming for the last schedule and he suddenly went MIA. She then revealed that she got to see the final film five days before its release. “I was literally shocked. This was not what we shot for. This was not what I was expecting. I am an actor and I just don’t want my face to be seen. That there are a few nice close ups and that’s it. I want my work to be talked about, not my clothes and shoes.” She reiterated that she was hugely disappointed after watching the film and she just walked out of the theatre without talking to anyone.”
Adding on to this, Mishti also revealed that Kangana NEVER directed her. She said that if Kangana claims that she has directed 70 per cent of her movie, then she must be talking about the ‘Baahubali type flying action shots’. She took a clear side and said, “I would go with Krish’s version. Kangana modified the movie in the edit.” “To glorify yourself, you don’t need to put others down. If you are great, you will stand out in the crowd. If you don’t have the confidence, you will want it all for yourself.” Mishti said that the movie was about Manikarnika so there was no need for Kangana to chop off others’ roles. She even compared the movie to Vidya Balan’s Begum Jaan, which she was part of. She even said that Kangana had said, “I want dates because all characters look jumbled up. I want to introduce them properly. I have taken nice close ups…I trying my best to give everybody a prominent space on screen. After watching the movie, there is no scope for other characters. So there was no need to make fake promises.
hocking behavior of Krish. I am certain more will come out once Kangana and producers reveals the truth themselves.
Right now only the disadvantaged are talking while only Kangana’s sister is putting things in perspective.
“It feels bad to say cathartic when you can see somebody going through so much pain and humiliation. I could see humiliation on his face and voice. It almost feels like his confidence is kind of taken a little beating. I know exactly what it feels like because for two years I went through that. When he talked about how he did not see it coming and how he was shocked because till some point everything was going so beautifully. You think you are making the best film of your life, you know you are so infused that you say no to every other project that comes your way, you have given more blood, sweat, and tears to your film than you wouldn’t do for anything else. And you really believe that you are all working together.” Apurva said.
Apurva talked about how Kangana Ranaut discredited him during Simran interviews. “I have been in the business for 23-25 years. My work, whether it has been Satya, whether it has been Aligarh, whether it has been Shahid, whether it has been CityLights, whether it has been Waiting, they were all offbeat films. I don’t run after box office. I want to tell good stories. That’s the choice. The public doesn’t know who I am, I don’t have that kind of a reach especially as an editor and as a writer. I am okay with that. But, when a big star of the caliber as Kangana goes to town to say such negative things about me – she is going to Rajat Sharma’s show Aap Ki Adalat and she is saying ‘Apurva has not done any of the films he claims, he is good for nothing’, it really damaged by reputation. I fought my battle there but I did not get support from my very own director who I considered my friend. In fact, they started a whole smear campaign against me, trying to discredit me for my work together. It was a very difficult phase.”

Watched #Manikarnika a second time ..I honestly think #KanganaRanaut was possessed by the spirit of Bruce Lee ..Even the gravity defying stunts looked believable because of the searing intensity on her face
Let me give you a recent example. Salman Khan is shooting for Bharat now. The film is going through multiple changes. The latest change: Salman refused to be shown handicapped. But is anybody blaming Salman? No!
Of course then there’s the famous debut of Aamir Khan when he decided to oust the director of “Taare Zameen Par” because he didn’t align with Aamir’s vision.
Shah Rukh Khan’s last release Zero went through changes to support Shah Rukh Khan’s vision. Did you ever blame Shah Rukh Khan for it?
So if it’s standard practice for a hero to call the shots, then why this outrage against Kangana Ranaut? She was carrying the film on her shoulders and she called the shots. She threw out people who didn’t care about her vision.
Isn’t this standard Bollywood protocol for heroes?
Are you protesting against heroes having their way or you’re targeting Kangana because you feel she’s defenceless & there’s no big producer or superstar to support her?
Is this why she’s being targeted despite delivering one of the biggest women-led films ever in Bollywood?
SRK has been an idiot for changing Anand Rai’s vision. Salman is asshole. Plain and simple. Their stupidity doesnt surprise anymore. Which is why people have given up on them.
During an interaction on a television show, PeeCee revealed that she is all set to essay the character of late spiritual leader Osho’s disciple, Ma Anand Sheela, which will be helmed by Oscar-winning director, Barry Levinson.
I think PC will do great as Ma Sheela. Its one of the greatest roles for any actor and most fascinating personality of a women in last century. PC has that spunk and attitude with a sweet face but strong personality. Alia, Tabu etc are good but doesn’t have that balance as PC. Moreover if its Hollywood project, no way PC will be the first choice than others.
No she will not: The simple reason is PC is a wannabe Amreecan piggy-banking on her so-called bullying/racism she faced in her school-years in the United States. Ma Anand Sheela is someone who just ‘reacted’ to situations and went along with her tough-titties and her middle-finger. Her reactions, and her actions are genuine and were NEVER rehearsed and never ‘calculated’ , unlike a certain PC or whatever..
PC is a fine actress and she revealed it in BAJIRAO but unfortunately, she is too stuck-up in her BS trying to be acceptable in both Indian and faux-American societies and that’s her undoing..her fakery…
This is merely my opinion…for some one who wants to play Ma Anand Sheela, one should be like an unaltered rock; who gets altered with dedication to Rajneesh….a completely unadulterated person that climbs the ladders of experience and life unknowingly and falters, fails, and shows the middle finger..
I was wondering how come US system was so lenient? And the real story is different.
In July 2014, Kaur was finally arrested after a two-hour long police chase. Initially, Kaur was charged with 20 years of prison for each of her robberies but it was reduced to 66 months after her lawyer pleaded that she was a victim of her upbringing. The judge also asked her to return every penny of the money she looted.
It is not lenient. Prosecutors typically strike deal with defense so that the case doesn’t drag. It is beneficial for both parties. In plea deal case is settled faster and guilty part gets less punishment than otherwise. The guilty party of doesn’t take plea deal will have to pay for attorney and you may end up very long time in jail.
Naveen, Salman was blamed for Race 3 and Tubelight. But he did not say that he was the director for both the films. Same case with SRK. In aamir’s case, aamir did not keep amol gupte in loop about who was going to be the director. He made things clear after the first week shoot. Accept me as director or take your script to some other producer. And he also gave him credit as creative director. When TZP became a rage then amol started complaining about not getting credit as director. Same thing is happening with Krish if you observe the way he is framing his argument. In his case, he shot more than 60 percent. Thats the difference between amol and Krish. Amol shot for a week and aamir did not like it and from then on he took direction in his hands. People accuse aamir of ghost directing. Then what is the problem here if he openly directed a good script in his own way? Amol gupte made Stanley ka Dabba which received 5 stars from some critics. Amol’s vision got critical acclaim but could not achieve the popularity of TZP. Because in his heart, Aamir is a masala type of director who tries to get maximum audience.
Changes are regularly made and portions of films are regularly reshot.
The main issue is whether Kangana really directed 70 per cent of the film in those few weeks time as she is claiming. If she has, she has every right to be up there in the credits first. Even then Krish’s name should have been PROPERLY mentioned there after her.
But if Krish has directed significant portions of the film and Kangana has only modified and shot or reshot minor portions of the film during those few weeks time, then at the very least Krish’s name should be right up there with Kangana’s. And his contribution rightly acknowledged instead of denied
If for e.g. Salman re-shoots or modifies minor parts of Bharat himself, it does not mean he should take the director’s credits and deny everything done by the director since a year or so.
“When TZP became a rage then amol started complaining about not getting credit as director”
Not true entirely. The clashes between Amol and Aamir’s vision were evident during the entire filming of the project. which is why Amol left the film in the middle.
As for trolls who bring Modi in every argument, nothing can be said. They see everything in that frame of mind. They forget how Uri and its success is unanimously praised without any reservations on this blog. Even Kangana is praised for her fantastic portrayal as Manikarnika and queen Laxmibai. The complaints are by her director and some of her colleagues like Apurava Asrani, Mishti etc.
Even TAPM has not got any bashing as far as I know.
That is always the case..you have different yardstick when things are nearer to you…
You are very liberal when when things are far away from you and not affecting you but real tests is when you are in midst.
Navven, I knew you would bring in Aamir here. In TZP , there was no question of having Amole Gupte having directed the film.
Period. Yes , probably all male stars do suggest changes . It is upto the director to accept or not. But to the extent where the original director is discredited and supporting parts chopped? You decide.
I have admired Kangana a lot esp when she brought up the nepotism debate which made all these guys who thought that the industry was thier fiefdom really defensive.
But here, something is definitely off. More and more costars and technicians are speaking out. Maybe Krish deserves no support because he left the film mid way. But he deserved better.
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif will be featuring in as many as six tracks in Bharat, according to recent reports, which will be revolving around Indian festivals. As of now, we hear that three songs will be set against the backdrop of Holi, Diwali and a wedding track respectively. These reports suggest that Ali is currently shooting the wedding track with the two actors at a studio in suburban Mumbai. The song is also expected to feature Sunil Grover and Aasif Sheikh who play integral roles in the film.
Reportedly, a different era has been recreated in Film City Studio in Goregaon for a 40 day long schedule wherein a set of Delhi in the 50s and 60s has been erected. Speaking of the track, Ali is expected to be closely working with musicians Vishal – Shekhar and lyricist Irshad Kamil for the album of the film. The director has worked with them in the past for films like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. It is also apparently being asserted that the Bharat album, despite being set in a different generation, will not have any old Bollywood classics recreated for the film.
Following the footsteps of younger brother, Ekta Kapoor has opted for surrogacy and become a mother to a baby boy. Ekta’s baby was born on January 27 and is perfectly healthy. The producer will bring the baby home soon. Congratulations are in order for the Kapoors as the family welcomes the cute new member in their family! Ekta has been very close to Tusshar Kapoor and his son Laksshya. She is often snapped with the child and loves doing the whole ‘bua act’. Years of babysitting her nephew sure inspired her to have a baby of her own.
Shah Rukh Khan has been having a hard luck at the box office lately. His last movie Zero did not make the cut as a commercially viable film and also got written off by the critics. Moving on, that led him to rethink his film choices and so he pulled himself out of his next project, Saare Jahan Se Accha. SRK was supposed to play Rakesh Sharma, first Indian astronaut to go in space. But Zero’s debacle made him cautious and he withdrew from the movie. While we are waiting for him to officially announce his next, SRK spoke about his fears in his recent interview.
Shah Rukh Khan said that he is scared of the day when he would be too demotivated to take risks with the roles he chooses and will be trapped doing the same old mundane characters in boring films. He said that he does not want to wake up to a day where he is so tired to experiment that he would be stuck to doing regular films which get wrapped up in 40 days, earn a few bucks, buy a new car and move on to the same old routine.
Shah Rukh Khan’s last films: Zero, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Fan and Dilwale flopped at the box office. Only time will tell what Shah Rukh Khan will do next. Stay tuned.
” He said that he does not want to wake up to a day where he is so tired to experiment that he would be stuck to doing regular films which get wrapped up in 40 days, earn a few bucks, buy a new car and move on to the same old routine.” This after doing stuff like HNY and turning edgy stuff in Raees , Fan and Zero into mundane run of the mill. He continues to live in a bubble and refuses to clean his head. Him and HR are unique in that sense and very difficult to understand the delusion of grandeur except the ‘crack code’ commonality. Continue to waste immense stored talent. In hindsight it would be better if he continued doing sweet films than wtf were you thinking kind of films he has done in the last 10-12 years. He does’t yet realize he is already living his biggest fear with the films he has done lately.
Big B too was doing inane & cringe worthy acts throughout the 90s.. equally if not more embarrassing. Age finally mellowed all that ott down and it is only now he finds some traction with the audiences where we see his real self.
Just be yourself…. and in that respect Salman remains not only solid but grounded. His TV show Bigg Boss shows an unruffled calm / tranquil personality and attests to that image and he will last the longest among the trio and at least 4-5 years at the top….
However for him too its time to change gear and shifting to some ‘raw retributive action’ be given top priority as current public mood reflects frustrations in the system and joblessness levels hitting the youths hard with resentment & annoyance levels at an all time and it needs a mini 70s era Bachchanesque persona to take ill out of the society….something which Simmba/Rohit shetty taps into.
Just watched #RubaruRoshni. Don’t even remember how many times i was teary eyed. Embrace peace and love. Very well put together by Swaati! Thanks @aamir_khan sir and kiran rao maam for supporting it.
SLB sees glimpses of three legendary actresses in Deepika Padukone. “From some angles she reminds me of Vyjanthimalaji. Sometimes she reminds me of Hemaji. And the grace with which she has performed the ‘Ghoomar’ dance reminds me of Waheedaji. I strongly believe Deepika has the potential to join the ranks of our legendary actresses.”
“There is a lot more to her. Lots! Deepika is one of the finest artistes I’ve worked with. Such thehrao and such grace! She never surrenders to melodrama even when there is ample temptation to do so. Look at her speech in front of the women before they commit jauhar. Such control, restraint and so much emotive power without tripping over. I was so overwhelmed by how she handled that scene; I gave her a 500-rupee note after she finished the scene. I am sure that token of my appreciation is more valuable and precious to her than the entire remuneration she got for the film.”
Manikarnika Wednesday Business

Box Office India Trade Network
Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi (Hindi) is continuing to hold in the weekdays which is a bit surprising as the general public response is negative towards the film. But eventually the word of mouth will catch up as the collections are low in key areas and what happens normally is other places do catch up and whether its on the second Friday or after only time will tell.
The collections so far are around 53 crore nett so the week will be finish at around 56.5-57 crore nett. So till dade the business of the film is decent boosted by the Republic Day holiday. There is weak competition this week so the film should continue to hold well technically but the reports are going to catch up at some point and a drop will come.
Delhi / UP remains the best market with the UP side being very steady and some centers in the state registering better collections than day one. The collections of Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi (Hindi) are as follows.
Watched Mumbai Meri Jaan on netflix. It is a sort of multistarrer for me. Irrfan, Paresh rawal, Madhavan, KayKay. When I saw those names, I felt like watching. After watching Ruburu Roshni, this movie looked like one. And there were some politically incorrect dialogues and they were there escaping censor scissors. They captured Mumbai very well.
“Sonakshi’s character suffers from an ailment and dies mid-way into the film. Aditya is paired opposite Sonakshi in the film. While Alia and Aditya are then a couple, she falls in love with Varun’s character. Varun plays a Muslim guy and the film also deals with the Hindu-Muslim agony during the Partition. IT’s in the climax that Varun also loses his life in order to save Alia and her family. It’s an extremely emotional ending to the film where the makers are expecting everyone to fall in love with Alia and Varun’s character. Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Adi too have interesting parts to play, but Varun and Alia are the ones who will walk away with all the tears,” a source revealed to us.

In TZP, I have never read an interview of Amol Gupte accusing Aamir of ‘stealing’ the director’s credit but he was miffed with Aamir for not letting him direct the movie as was the deal between Aamir & him!! Aamir gave Amol a choice to take his script to another producer as he wasn’t pleased with the rushes Amol shot for a week or so & told him so. In Aamir’s case, it’s a reversal of sort where he had been accused of ‘ghost-directing’ most of his films but he kept denying it until TZP happened but Kangana’s case is different from Aamir as she has been trying to take the entire credit away from the director and also of the writer (Apurva Asrani) in her movies since Simran either through making fun of their skillset or questioning their entire career (Ketan Mehta & Apurva Asrani)!! One could also go through Rangoon’s controversies mainly involving Kangana which Vishal Bhardwaj mentioned in his interviews. So it’s not restricted to Manikarnika alone, but she has a history!! Two wrongs can never make it right, as precedents in the past should not be the criteria to deem wrongs of present.
Let’s not forget TZP is an Aamir Khan production…he can do what he likes. Naveen is trying to say Manikarnika as same scenario but completely different.
I reiterate Kangana’s actions are very dubious. And I don’t care who is PM of India…more worried if we will have food in UK on April 1st.
And to be fair to Kangana, if i get to know that Aamir ‘stole’ credit’ from Amol Gupte, my reation would be same that of him being ‘unethical’!! I’m not going to apply one yardstick for Aamir and different for Kangana as both should be treated in the same manner regardless of my liking for the former; but Aamir had a history of being the ‘ghost director’ in most of his movies while Kangana is yet to prove her mettle as a stand-alone director or even being that much involved with every sphere of film making!! Besides this, what’s the point behind ‘changing the name of the director’ from his known name in the credits?? Either way there is something wrong with the way Kangana has been behaving with regards to usurping director’s credit discreding Krish!!

Did Hansal Mehata win any awards for Simran?
Its the other round and Kirsh or whoever it is comes across small in this never ending saga. Once you left the project just walk away and detach yourself with the outcome instead of bickering for credits. Prove that with your next work instead of harping on it endlessly. Kangana is weird but gutsy strong Garhwali women and knows when to turn to maa durga avatar few of the northern belt women use to their advantage once cornered. Kangana is sweet to the extent of getting her way initially with a demure fuckable personality and has given few bigguns sleepless nights and they have fallen like ninepins…
With Manikarnika’s Rs 40 crore opening week, Kangana Ranaut proves she is the true queen of Bollywood
Kangana Ranaut’s latest movie has proven her to be the undisputed queen of Bollywood. Industry experts and filmmakers weigh on what Manikarnika’s success means for her career.
Naysayers be damned. With her latest film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which crossed Rs 40 crore in its opening week and is being praised for a power-packed performance, actor Kangana Ranaut is proving why the epithet ‘Bollywood’s queen’ suits her.
Whether it was as the Rani of Queen or the Jhansi Ki Rani of Manikarnika, Kangana seems to have conquered the space of women-led cinema, following a lull in her career owing to films like Katti Batti and Rangoon, and a web of controversies.
According to trade analyst Atul Mohan, Manikarnika registered the biggest ever opening weekend collection for a woman-led film in the history of Indian cinema. Film and trade business analyst Girish Johar said it is worth appreciating that Kangana faced several hurdles and triumphed in bringing alive a film of such a mammoth scale.
Looking forward to Captain Marvel & Wonder Woman 2 esp for Brei Larson & Gal Gadot. May be Avengers Endgame just to get to the conclusion of the last installment and then Toy Story 4. Just checked and realized there is no Avatar 2 even this year.
Among Hindi outings nothing much probably a bit of Gully Boy / Ayushman cop movie with Sinha and then there is Bharat. Rest of it remains crappy hype. Few of the hyped one I finally watched on TV and among them Badhai Ho was passable. Andhadhun – okay for concept. Sui Dhaaga boring and Gold was crap. Have to watch Stree and Tumbad.
Watching Sridevi’s Mom. The girl who plays her step daughter resembles younger Kareena IMO. Sri looks good and acts well as always. Her interaction with her second daughter is too cute. Let me see how it will be after the trauma.
Finished watching Mom. Brilliant film. The thriller part is equally good. Sad that DK died. But that made the cop more sympathetic to the protagonist. Atleast in films we can see quick justice served fast and satisfactority. Surprised to watch Sridevi’s cool act. What an actress! Impressive in her swan song.
That’s why I was making a case for Sri during Jays WC between Sri/Madhuri.
There’s nothing remotely close in madhuri film graph to what Sri did in just her last two films (MOM and English Vinglish) where the film is solely on the lead actress solder and both films were appreciated and were commercial success. Both of these films were not famous or success due to songs, dance, it was the performance of Sri and good story.
Makes you think that she would have given at least another 3 good films like MOM/EV in next 5 years.

ED sends notice to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for SMUGGLING illegal currency, to be BANNED from performing in India if proven guilty
ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkJan 31, 2019 – 8:31 am IST
Popular Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been nabbed by the Enforcement Directorate in the matter of smuggling foreign currency to the tune of more than Rs. 2 crores. He has also been accused of transferring funds through an illegal manner since last three years. He has been asked to reply to the notice sent by ED within 45 days.
The charges are pressed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). A thorough probe was initiated by the government on Khan. This is not the first time that the singer has been accused of this. Earlier in 2011, he along with his manager were held at the Delhi airport for carrying an undeclared amount and few other instruments in foreign exchange currency. FEMA conducted a probe against him back in 2014 with regard to this matter
An investigation is underway with regards to this matter and if dissatisfied with Rahat’s response, he will be banned by the government to perform anywhere in India. Rahat is known for belting out hit numbers like: Jiya Dhadak Dhadak (Kalyug) to songs like Tere Mast Mast Do Nain (Dabangg), Teri Ore (Singh Is Kinng), Sajda (My Name Is Khan), Teri Meri (Bodyguard) and Jag Jhoomeya (Sultan).
Will it be Aamir Khan versus Priyanka Chopra for the Ma Sheela film
BySubhash K. Jha
Feb 1, 2019 – 10:50 am IST
Ma Sheela, the hypnotic Acharya Rajneesh’s right-hand woman and most trusted disciple, will now be seen in a movie version of her life, to be played by none other than India’s most luscious Bollywood import Priyanka Chopra. Speaking on Tuesday night on the widely watched Ellen Degeneres Show Priyanka said she is “developing” a project on the life of Ma Anand Sheela (real name Sheela Ambalal Patel) with the highly-regarded director Barry Levinson who is best known for the Oscar winning film Rain Man.
Interestingly Karan Johar also plans a film on Acharya Rajneesh where Alia Bhatt is to play Ma Sheela while Aamir Khan would play Rajneesh. While this is great news for Priyanka fans, as she hasn’t been seen on screen in anything significant recently (and even her on-release Hollywood film Isn’t It Romantic to be out on February 14 has her in a relatively minor role) there are many hurdles to making a film on a figure as hideously controversial as Ma Sheela.
As Rajneesh’s personal secretary Ma Sheela created havoc with the law and was accused and sentenced for several crimes. It is doubtful that the real Ma Sheela would allow Priyanka Chopra to do a screen version without exercising some level of creative control over what goes in. Also, Priyanka claims the project is in development. This means it would take a minimum of two years for the film to actually hit theatres.
Does that mean we don’t see Priyanka on screen for that long? Interestingly Karan Johar is also developing a project based in the life of Acharya Rajneesh where Aamir Khan and Alia Bhatt are the potential actors to play Rajneesh and Ma Sheela.
Kangana might just be setting a not too glorious example. Her “I’ll be an asshole on set because the top male stars are” approach isn’t right. Shouldn’t she set a positive precedent by showing what male stars should be like instead of “I have the prerogative to act like a jerk as well”

Manikarnika is getting mixed reviews. From 2 stars to 4 stars. Kangana seems to have messed the movie somewhat due to her interference. Although being praised for performance as well which is not surprising.
URI will probably continue it’s dream run.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is getting into the zone of being other people with ease. After Manto, he has hit another home run with Thackeray as far as his performance is concerned. From adapting the mannerisms to a bit of voice modulation, Nawazuddin is not Nawazuddin in the film.

Week one – 71,24,00,000
Friday – 7,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 13,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday – 16,75,00,000 apprx
Monday – 6,75,00,000 apprx
Tuesday – 6,50,00,000 apprx
Wednesday – 6,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday – 5,25,00,000 apprx
Second Week – 62,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 1,33,49,00,000 apprx

Agree.
FYI only got into this as Naveen is trying to sell SJ short but not doing same with Gold. I doubt people expected what SJ did back then and you can guarantee more was expected from Gold but once a film underwhelmes all bets are off.
The verdicts determine which film did better overall.

It may turn out to be an interesting film or concept. There are not too many films on RAW. But the teaser simply does not show enough (probably intentionally).

Plot:

6. Jism 2 – 7,46,00,000 (Sunny Leone)
7. Raazi – 7,33,00,000 (Alia Bhatt)
8. Heroine – 6,82,00,000 (Kareena Kapoor)
9. Stree – 6,62,00,000 (Shraddha Kapoor)
10. Akira – 4,81,00,000 (Sonakshi Sinha)

Apart from this, films like ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, ‘Petta’ and ‘Viswasam’ were also leaked online by Tamilrockers.
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/news/after-thackeray-kangana-ranauts-manikarnika-the-queen-of-jhansi-gets-leaked-online/articleshow/67702256.cms

Very interesting screenplay here! 🙂

It is unfortunate that Kangana is perpetrating what she claimed she had undergone and was protesting. It is ultimately the producer’s call and even if the claims of shooting 70% is true, changing the director’s identity and taking the first credit( instead of a joint one) is pathetic to say the least. Isn’t this a form of #METOO?

Master, Latha, Rahul, Tony, Raj Roshan, Idea –
Let me give you a recent example. Salman Khan is shooting for Bharat now. The film is going through multiple changes. The latest change: Salman refused to be shown handicapped. But is anybody blaming Salman? No!
Of course then there’s the famous debut of Aamir Khan when he decided to oust the director of “Taare Zameen Par” because he didn’t align with Aamir’s vision.
Shah Rukh Khan’s last release Zero went through changes to support Shah Rukh Khan’s vision. Did you ever blame Shah Rukh Khan for it?
https://twitter.com/Soumyadipta/status/1090274835249356801
So if it’s standard practice for a hero to call the shots, then why this outrage against Kangana Ranaut? She was carrying the film on her shoulders and she called the shots. She threw out people who didn’t care about her vision.
Isn’t this standard Bollywood protocol for heroes?
Are you protesting against heroes having their way or you’re targeting Kangana because you feel she’s defenceless & there’s no big producer or superstar to support her?
Is this why she’s being targeted despite delivering one of the biggest women-led films ever in Bollywood?

Incidentally, I am a Modi supporter .

Thursday 31 January 2019 12.15 IST
Friday – 7,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday – 17,75,00,000 apprx

Watched Mumbai Meri Jaan on netflix. It is a sort of multistarrer for me. Irrfan, Paresh rawal, Madhavan, KayKay. When I saw those names, I felt like watching. After watching Ruburu Roshni, this movie looked like one. And there were some politically incorrect dialogues and they were there escaping censor scissors. They captured Mumbai very well.

SPOILER ALERT
